Am learning a lot
WVU is a big school; however, I have not met a professor who is not willing to help students outside of class. Even though there can be classrooms filled with 200 students at a time, it is very easy to get to know the professor and to work with them one-on-one to really understand the material. As long as the student is willing to work, the professor will work with them. Along with professors being a very useful resource, there are other options on campus such as tutors, study groups, and teacher assistants.

WVU is located in Morgantown, WV. Any student will tell you that they love Morgantown. The atmosphere as a student there is the best to be in because WVU is full of students with a lot of school-spirit.
Tips for prospective students
As a first year student, you do not need a car. Morgantown is a terrible place when it comes to parking. Luckily, everything on the downtown campus is easy to walk to. To get to classes on the other campuses we have the PRT and a bus system. To get to a class on the Evansdale campus, or Engineering Campus, my advice would be to use the bus system because it is much faster then the PRT. The PRT is best to use when going to the Medical Center or the football field, but I think should be avoided as much as possible because it is old and breaks down a lot. Also, if it is possible to live downtown the first year, that would be the best decision. There is a lot more to do on the downtown campus. My suggestion for dorms on the downtown campus would be Summit Hall, The Honors Dorm, or Boreman South.
Great for these types of students
This is a great place for those who want to get involved on campus, whether it be to join Greek life, clubs, or sports. Also, WVU students and alumni love football. Any student who wants to go to a big football school, and recently a big basketball school, WVU would be a good choice. Also, there are many great schools for those who know what they would like to major in. For instance, we have a great Medical school, Law school, Journalism school, Business school, and many more to choose from. WVU would also be great for students who are unsure what they want to major because there are so many options and many beginning level classes offered for those to make the right decision.

I'm part of the Honors College, so my classes are pretty tough. However, most of the professors are very nice and helpful. Classes are informative and interesting.
Am enjoying being here
Morgantown is a great location. You get a great mix of seasons and the campus is absolutely beautiful. The people are friendly and there's always something fun to do on or off campus.
Bang for the buck
As an out of state student, WVU is expensive, but I feel that I am getting what I paid for as far as classes because I'm learning a lot.
Tips for prospective students
Before going to WVU be prepared to walk... a lot. Morgantown is very hilly and there are plenty of stairs. There's also not much parking so even if you end up bringing a car, you'll still find yourself on foot most of the time.
Great for these types of students
WVU is great for students who want to learn a lot and also have fun doing it. I can assure you that at West Virginia University you will never be bored. There are so many clubs and athletic activities to become involved in.

Am learning a lot
As a freshman student at WVU I quickly learned how to advocate for myself. Academic advisors were seemingly invisible during my first few weeks making the transition from high school to college scheduling very stressful and even tearful. With that behind me I now have obtained a confidence, a voice to advocate for myself. WVU is a large university and offers so many great opportunities to its students. You just have to go learn quickly how to step up and take advantage of them. I have learned that multiple women can share one bathroom without killing each other. I have learned that college food is not as bad as I had anticipated, the recreation center is a great place to play, chocolate fixes a bad day, and that my new network of friends makes homesickness bearable. Most importantly, halfway through my first semester of my freshman year I have learned I can do it.
Am enjoying being here
I am enjoying being a WV Mountaineer! There are not many other places in the world where you can don the blue and gold, paint your face, and feel the mountaineer excitement clear to your toes. I get to experience this with every football game, every soccer match, every basketball game and even with recreational activities from sports to cookie eating to pie throwing or hula hooping. It’s crazy like that! It’s a pride like I have never experienced, being part of a tradition and a family that’s larger than life.
Bang for the buck
The biggest bang for your buck lies in the college itself. I applied and was accepted into six colleges, three out-of-state and three in-state schools. I carefully weighed the cost of the education along with the quality of education into my deciding factor. For me WVU was the biggest bang for my buck. I should graduate with my chemistry major in four years with less than ten thousand in total debt, allowing me to transition into medical school prepared and not financially broken. With that said I am also a big fan of the student favorite DP Dough Pizza shop in downtown Morgantown. They are cheap with serving sizes that feed a small army.
Tips for prospective students
Learn from my mistakes! I did not decide on WVU until late, as a matter of fact I was set on attending West Virginia Wesleyan College until financial aid fell through I had to re-evaluate my situation. In July I transitioned to WVU. My advice is to apply early and commit early. This will allow you the greatest opportunity to capitalize on all WVU has to offer. Believe me, being the last to schedule and waiting for them to make a room for you is no fun. You will end up with 8am classes and classes at 9pm, you will live in Evansdale and have all your classes downtown. It’s been a hectic first semester, one that you can avoid by committing early.
Great for these types of students
Wow, with a campus like WVU it is great for any type of student. Seriously, any stereotype, any click from the athlete to the nerd, from the music major to the chemistry loving geek, from country to hard rock, white, black and every color in between you will fit in at WVU. The diversity here is amazing. I frequently spend my lunch just people watching and enjoying all the variety WVU has to offer. I myself have been challenged to look beyond who I am and reinvent who I will become. At am a musician, playing in the orchestra, a nerd in the honors program, an athlete running and attending spinning classes daily, a teacher working with students at a local school, a mentor for teenagers at the rec center, a room mate and friend to several girls from all over the country. WVU is great for all types of students!

WVU has a lot to offer. It has a reputation as a big party school, but most of the people are here to get their Study On.
The professors are very helpful and want to see their student succeed and there is free tutoring provided throughout the University. There is a great support system, but you do have to do your part! Go to class, keep up with your reading, and study. The parties will always be there for you to celebrate after you call home and say you made Dean's List!
Am enjoying being here
There is definitely a time and a place for everything!
And there is plenty of time after you study to enjoy Morgantown!
WVU football games are so exciting, it is hard to describe. I don't think there is another university in the United States that has dedicated fans like West Virginia University Football Fans
When it comes to parties, there are great under 21 clubs that play good dance music and serve non-alcoholic beverages to provide to a mature atmosphere without the concerns of underage drinking.
Bang for the buck
Even for out of state students, WVU has one of the lowest tuition rates, yet offers high quality, state of the art educational experiences for the scholars that attend. WVU also provides a wide variety of majors to choose from in its baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees.
Tips for prospective students
Do not bring your car! There isn't anyplace to park.
Great for these types of students
Well rounded, self motivated, driven, gregarious,

Even though WVU has been labeled a party school, I still find the classes to be quite challenging. I graduated from high school as an honors student, so I've never had trouble with classes until coming to college. Even though classes are challenging, there are always study groups around campus to help you with your classes. The professors are usually flexible when it comes to helping you out. I haven't found a teacher yet that wasn't willing to help me in a class.
Am enjoying being here
WVU has so much to offer the students. All sporting events are free and a lot of fun. WVU also offers a program called Up All Night on the weekends. They have free movies, food, and different events every night. The dorms go on lots of trips to different places. Recently they went to Fright Farm and Falling Water for free. They also take trips to Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and New York City for a small cost.
Bang for the buck
I am paying in state tuition here, plus I received the WV PROMISE scholarship which took care of most of my tuition. Now, I'm just paying for room and board, books, and other fees. Considering everything campus offers for free, the price isn't that bad.
Tips for prospective students
When coming to campus, be sure to meet new people. I encourage everyone to live with somebody they don't know. Take advantage of the roommate match and find somebody compatible with you. Find a dorm that meets your needs and try all the dining places around campus. Honestly, some places have better food than others. Take the bus as much as possible, especially if you live on Evansdale. However, the PRT is becoming slightly more reliable. Last but not least, explore the Rec Center. It always makes me feel better if i'm feeling down.
Great for these types of students
WVU is great for outgoing students that are ready to meet a ton of new people. WVU has students from everywhere. There is a group here for everyone, you just have to search and find who you're looking for.

Most people consider WVU a 'party school,' but once you attend your first class you will find that it is not all play here on campus. The classes challenge you and all of the teachers here are very interesting.
Am enjoying being here
I love it here at WVU! There are so many different things to do. The Greek system here is a ton of fun and I would encourage any incoming freshman to consider joining. Although it is very cold here in the winter, you can always find something fun to do!
Bang for the buck
For students from WVU, it is very affordable and many scholarships are available. For out of state students it is a bit more expensive, but still inexpensive compared to other out of state schools.
Tips for prospective students
If you choose to come to WVU, make sure you are very good at managing your time. Bring lots of warm clothes with you because it snows a lot! You should also try new things, and meet as many new people as you can.
Great for these types of students
WVU is a great option for students who want to succeed and find the knowledge that they need to pursue the career that they want.

This Mountaineer gives WVU a 10/10. It is a large college with many options, but with the help of Gordon Gee and the professors it has a small college feel. It is a beautiful campus in the hills of WV.
Tips for prospective students
Study like it is a job and you will do great.
Don't wait to use the free tutoring, college moves faster than high school.
Drink plenty of water your first week so you don't get dehydrated.
Bring good walking shoes.
Academic Rigor
Great education with high expectations from the professors who are always willing to help you.
Dorm Life
The Oakland Dorm is new with air condition and plenty of room for what you need. The closets are huge with mirror doors.
A must have would be a mattress pad for the standard dorm mattress.
Bring a door stop for the dorm and make new friends on your new adventure.
Food and Dining
Food card is mandatory first year. The food is good. You can also use it a few fast food restaurants which is nice.
What to do for fun
It's a city so you can do just about everything. Sport events, concerts, theater, movies are all within walking or bus distance. Don't miss out on a football game. Remember Country Roads will take you home.

My freshman year, I learned more than I thought I would. The program I am in at WVU is highly recognized, and the professors here are great.

Morgantown, is a great place. WVU is a school where you get a great college experience. Everything from greek life to sports. Its a great place.
Bang for the buck
Being an out of state resident, WVU is one of the best universities to get a great education without spending 50 grand a year. I choose WVU for that reason. I wanted to go out of state and WVU was a reasonable pricing.
Tips for prospective students
Dont get distracted by all the freedom you have at college. WVU does have a reputation but its a great education system.

A lot of people judge WVU (because of the social atmosphere), but I have come to discover that WVU offers a great, quality education.
Tips for prospective students
Take a tour, especially when classes are in session. You will get a great feel for the atmosphere. Also, be sure to explore all three campuses, there is so much to see!

Select a dorm on the campus where most of your classes will be. This allows you to get a little bit of extra rest in the morning.
Academic Rigor
Like any school, the difficulty of your classes will depend on what exactly you choose to take. As a Biology/Pre-med major I felt challenged in all of my courses. Definitely recommend checking out tutoring for chemistry classes.
Dorm Life
WVU has many dorms to choose from, so investigate them all and find the perfect one for you. If your classes are downtown choose a dorm downtown, such a Boreman Hall. If your classes are on Evansdale, choose dorm near Evansdale, such as Lincoln Hall.
Food and Dining
I honestly enjoyed all the food at WVU. Just as there are many dorms to choose from, there are multiple dining halls to choose from and everyone has their favorite. I loved Boreman Bistro; they have a great salad bar, deli, and even a coffee bar. If you're looking for something after a good work out at the student rec, try the Juice Bar at Evansdale Crossing. Looking for some of your favorite chain restaurants? Check the Mountainlair!
What to do for fun
I spent a lot of my time at the Student Rec Center. If you enjoy exercise, you'll love it.
Bang for the buck
WVU is very reasonably priced, in or out of state.
Clubs and Activities
There is a club for everything (seriously). And if you can't find what you're looking for you can start your own!
Campus Safety
I always felt safe at WVU. Campus police are always present, especially at night. Also, there are so many people on campus you are rarely ever somewhere alone.
