Categories Comments Great for these types of students This is a great place for those who want to get involved on campus, whether it be to join Greek life, clubs, or sports. Also, WVU students and alumni love football. Any student who wants to go to a big football school, and recently a big basketball school, WVU would be a good choice. Also, there are many great schools for those who know what they would like to major in. For instance, we have a great Medical school, Law school, Journalism school, Business school, and many more to choose from. WVU would also be great for students who are unsure what they want to major because there are so many options and many beginning level classes offered for those to make the right decision.
Tips for prospective students As a first year student, you do not need a car. Morgantown is a terrible place when it comes to parking. Luckily, everything on the downtown campus is easy to walk to. To get to classes on the other campuses we have the PRT and a bus system. To get to a class on the Evansdale campus, or Engineering Campus, my advice would be to use the bus system because it is much faster then the PRT. The PRT is best to use when going to the Medical Center or the football field, but I think should be avoided as much as possible because it is old and breaks down a lot. Also, if it is possible to live downtown the first year, that would be the best decision. There is a lot more to do on the downtown campus. My suggestion for dorms on the downtown campus would be Summit Hall, The Honors Dorm, or Boreman South.
Am enjoying being here WVU is located in Morgantown, WV. Any student will tell you that they love Morgantown. The atmosphere as a student there is the best to be in because WVU is full of students with a lot of school-spirit.
Am learning a lot WVU is a big school; however, I have not met a professor who is not willing to help students outside of class. Even though there can be classrooms filled with 200 students at a time, it is very easy to get to know the professor and to work with them one-on-one to really understand the material. As long as the student is willing to work, the professor will work with them. Along with professors being a very useful resource, there are other options on campus such as tutors, study groups, and teacher assistants.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for students who want to learn a lot and also have fun doing it. I can assure you that at West Virginia University you will never be bored. There are so many clubs and athletic activities to become involved in.
Tips for prospective students Before going to WVU be prepared to walk... a lot. Morgantown is very hilly and there are plenty of stairs. There's also not much parking so even if you end up bringing a car, you'll still find yourself on foot most of the time.
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, WVU is expensive, but I feel that I am getting what I paid for as far as classes because I'm learning a lot.
Am enjoying being here Morgantown is a great location. You get a great mix of seasons and the campus is absolutely beautiful. The people are friendly and there's always something fun to do on or off campus.
Am learning a lot I'm part of the Honors College, so my classes are pretty tough. However, most of the professors are very nice and helpful. Classes are informative and interesting.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Wow, with a campus like WVU it is great for any type of student. Seriously, any stereotype, any click from the athlete to the nerd, from the music major to the chemistry loving geek, from country to hard rock, white, black and every color in between you will fit in at WVU. The diversity here is amazing. I frequently spend my lunch just people watching and enjoying all the variety WVU has to offer. I myself have been challenged to look beyond who I am and reinvent who I will become. At am a musician, playing in the orchestra, a nerd in the honors program, an athlete running and attending spinning classes daily, a teacher working with students at a local school, a mentor for teenagers at the rec center, a room mate and friend to several girls from all over the country. WVU is great for all types of students!
Tips for prospective students Learn from my mistakes! I did not decide on WVU until late, as a matter of fact I was set on attending West Virginia Wesleyan College until financial aid fell through I had to re-evaluate my situation. In July I transitioned to WVU. My advice is to apply early and commit early. This will allow you the greatest opportunity to capitalize on all WVU has to offer. Believe me, being the last to schedule and waiting for them to make a room for you is no fun. You will end up with 8am classes and classes at 9pm, you will live in Evansdale and have all your classes downtown. It’s been a hectic first semester, one that you can avoid by committing early.
Bang for the buck The biggest bang for your buck lies in the college itself. I applied and was accepted into six colleges, three out-of-state and three in-state schools. I carefully weighed the cost of the education along with the quality of education into my deciding factor. For me WVU was the biggest bang for my buck. I should graduate with my chemistry major in four years with less than ten thousand in total debt, allowing me to transition into medical school prepared and not financially broken. With that said I am also a big fan of the student favorite DP Dough Pizza shop in downtown Morgantown. They are cheap with serving sizes that feed a small army.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying being a WV Mountaineer! There are not many other places in the world where you can don the blue and gold, paint your face, and feel the mountaineer excitement clear to your toes. I get to experience this with every football game, every soccer match, every basketball game and even with recreational activities from sports to cookie eating to pie throwing or hula hooping. It’s crazy like that! It’s a pride like I have never experienced, being part of a tradition and a family that’s larger than life.
Am learning a lot As a freshman student at WVU I quickly learned how to advocate for myself. Academic advisors were seemingly invisible during my first few weeks making the transition from high school to college scheduling very stressful and even tearful. With that behind me I now have obtained a confidence, a voice to advocate for myself. WVU is a large university and offers so many great opportunities to its students. You just have to go learn quickly how to step up and take advantage of them. I have learned that multiple women can share one bathroom without killing each other. I have learned that college food is not as bad as I had anticipated, the recreation center is a great place to play, chocolate fixes a bad day, and that my new network of friends makes homesickness bearable. Most importantly, halfway through my first semester of my freshman year I have learned I can do it.

Tips for prospective students In your first year live downtown. Living on Evansdale sucks, it's two miles away and on top of a mountain from all of your classes even if your an engineering major. Only recommend it for Music majors. Don't bring your car you will not find a place to park it. Also the Honors college is a cool place to live. The bistro downtown is the best place to eat on campus, get there at 11ish when they open before the lunch rush. And finally, befriend an upperclassmen that has a car in your first year.
Bang for the buck Was able to get instate tuition from east Virginia. (Academic Common Market) But only bad thing is stuck with that obscure major.
Am enjoying being here Overall, meh.
Am learning a lot More learning outside of class than in.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for outgoing students that are ready to meet a ton of new people. WVU has students from everywhere. There is a group here for everyone, you just have to search and find who you're looking for.
Tips for prospective students When coming to campus, be sure to meet new people. I encourage everyone to live with somebody they don't know. Take advantage of the roommate match and find somebody compatible with you. Find a dorm that meets your needs and try all the dining places around campus. Honestly, some places have better food than others. Take the bus as much as possible, especially if you live on Evansdale. However, the PRT is becoming slightly more reliable. Last but not least, explore the Rec Center. It always makes me feel better if i'm feeling down.
Bang for the buck I am paying in state tuition here, plus I received the WV PROMISE scholarship which took care of most of my tuition. Now, I'm just paying for room and board, books, and other fees. Considering everything campus offers for free, the price isn't that bad.
Am enjoying being here WVU has so much to offer the students. All sporting events are free and a lot of fun. WVU also offers a program called Up All Night on the weekends. They have free movies, food, and different events every night. The dorms go on lots of trips to different places. Recently they went to Fright Farm and Falling Water for free. They also take trips to Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and New York City for a small cost.
Am learning a lot Even though WVU has been labeled a party school, I still find the classes to be quite challenging. I graduated from high school as an honors student, so I've never had trouble with classes until coming to college. Even though classes are challenging, there are always study groups around campus to help you with your classes. The professors are usually flexible when it comes to helping you out. I haven't found a teacher yet that wasn't willing to help me in a class.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Well rounded, self motivated, driven, gregarious,
Tips for prospective students Do not bring your car! There isn't anyplace to park.
Bang for the buck Even for out of state students, WVU has one of the lowest tuition rates, yet offers high quality, state of the art educational experiences for the scholars that attend. WVU also provides a wide variety of majors to choose from in its baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral degrees.
Am enjoying being here There is definitely a time and a place for everything! And there is plenty of time after you study to enjoy Morgantown! WVU football games are so exciting, it is hard to describe. I don't think there is another university in the United States that has dedicated fans like West Virginia University Football Fans When it comes to parties, there are great under 21 clubs that play good dance music and serve non-alcoholic beverages to provide to a mature atmosphere without the concerns of underage drinking.
Am learning a lot WVU has a lot to offer. It has a reputation as a big party school, but most of the people are here to get their Study On. The professors are very helpful and want to see their student succeed and there is free tutoring provided throughout the University. There is a great support system, but you do have to do your part! Go to class, keep up with your reading, and study. The parties will always be there for you to celebrate after you call home and say you made Dean's List!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is a great option for students who want to succeed and find the knowledge that they need to pursue the career that they want.
Tips for prospective students If you choose to come to WVU, make sure you are very good at managing your time. Bring lots of warm clothes with you because it snows a lot! You should also try new things, and meet as many new people as you can.
Bang for the buck For students from WVU, it is very affordable and many scholarships are available. For out of state students it is a bit more expensive, but still inexpensive compared to other out of state schools.
Am enjoying being here I love it here at WVU! There are so many different things to do. The Greek system here is a ton of fun and I would encourage any incoming freshman to consider joining. Although it is very cold here in the winter, you can always find something fun to do!
Am learning a lot Most people consider WVU a 'party school,' but once you attend your first class you will find that it is not all play here on campus. The classes challenge you and all of the teachers here are very interesting.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students That Want A Great Experience At College. Good For Athletic Type Students. All Students Should Take A Chance [&&] Go To WVU! #GoMountaineers
Tips for prospective students Do Not Bring Your Car. You Will Not Find Parking. Living Downtown Will Be The Best Place To Live. Everything Is In Walking Distance. There Is A Lot Of Transportation. (For Free.) Also, I Would Like To Live With A Roommate But I Like My Privacy... So If You Feel The Same Way I Do Have Fun Looking For Friends! :)
Bang for the buck I Know The Out Of State Tuition Is Quite Expensive But I Believe It'll All Be Worth It. WVU Seems To Be A Very Well Rounded College [&&] I Think The Academic Courses Will Be Worth It. Also Being In A Great College Town Environment Is A Major Plus. [They Football Games Seems To Be Really Live.]
Will enjoy being here I Have Been Doing Lots Of Research And So Far I Am Loving WVU [&&] Morgantown. There Are Many Things To Do On [&&] Off Campus.
Will learn a lot Hopefully The Learning Experience Will Be Great. I Seen Some Comments About WVU Being A Party School But To Me It Doesn't Seem Like It.

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Dont get distracted by all the freedom you have at college. WVU does have a reputation but its a great education system.
Bang for the buck Being an out of state resident, WVU is one of the best universities to get a great education without spending 50 grand a year. I choose WVU for that reason. I wanted to go out of state and WVU was a reasonable pricing.
Am enjoying being here Morgantown, is a great place. WVU is a school where you get a great college experience. Everything from greek life to sports. Its a great place.
Am learning a lot My freshman year, I learned more than I thought I would. The program I am in at WVU is highly recognized, and the professors here are great.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students People who like to party (great Greek life), people who want a good education, people who want a big town feel in a small town, people who want a school big on sports and have an amazing band. Everyone can find their place here. (:
Tips for prospective students 1. Choose your roommate carefully. Try to work things out, if not switch rooms or dorms. 2. If you are late, blame the PRT. (: 3. Ride the bus. 4. Tour here first. 5. Bring winter clothes. (: 6. Live downtown. Summit, Honors, and Boreman South are the best. 6. Enjoy!!
Am enjoying being here Aside from my old roommate that I lived with for 3 months, it is absolutely wonderful here. The atmosphere is good. It does get cold though. And the good parties are an added bonus.
Am learning a lot Some of the classes are huge your freshman year and it is very hard for the professor to focus on your type of learning, so you have to adjust to their style of teaching. If you want to learn though, they WILL help. You just have to make the effort and go to office hours.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is consisted of the strangest group of people. We have kids from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Virgina, and yes, even the Jersey Shore. We have country kids with gun racks in their pick ups, pierced, gauged, and tattooed, dread lock wearing guitar players, to kids straight out of Philly. There's someone for everyone here, you may just have to look a bit harder if you're not looking for a stereotypical frat kid.
Tips for prospective students Become a Kroger Plus Member; you save money and can shop for all your grocery needs anytime of the day or night thanks to being open 24/7! And concerning cars; parking here isn't that great and one of the biggest pains for students and teachers alike. The school offers many trips outside of the immediate area for you adventurous, traveling types.
Bang for the buck Being a college town, prices aren't too outrageous. Whether you are a pizza or sushi lover, the food prices tend to be adjusted according to the poor college student income.
Am enjoying being here Not only does WVU offer endless programs, clubs, etc., but Morgantown as a whole has a ton of extracurricular activities to get involved with. From little cafes with live music (Black Bear Burritos) to awesome music venues (123 Pleasant Street) to great outdoor adventures (Coopers Rock, The Core Arboretum), Morgantown offers your remedy to boredom and homesickness all within walking distance.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Those who like the small town feel. Those who like to show school spirit. Those who want a good mixture of fun and academics. Those who like college sports (BIG SPORTS SCHOOL)
Tips for prospective students >Focus more on a good GPA, this college weights GPA more heavily than test scores; but make sure the test scores are decent. >Apply online its much faster. >Use the application status checker provided on there website if you want a quicker answer.
Bang for the buck WVU in my opinion is one of the best Colleges in West Virginia where you get a quality education for a decent price.
Will enjoy being here I have visited the campus and found it to very vibrant and spirited but also has those places where you can go to study and get serious. I honestly believe I will enjoy it here.
Will learn a lot I have heard good things about WVU's academics, Everyone that I know that goes or has gone there has told me the academics are excellent and during my trip I learned of the outstanding programs that they have. Overall this is one of the best well rounded universities. Not too much of a party school, but not too much of a straight and proper school either.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for any type of student. We have superb academics, great athletic teams, and also a nice night life too. The greek life on campus is also very good for those who want to be a part of a fraternity or sorority. There is also a great variety in majors so there is something for everyone.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to apply early and schedule a visit before you decide. I was set on a small private school until I visited and hated every moment of it. When I reached Morgantown, I instantly knew I belonged here and that this was the school for me. So take your time to see the school and ask questions. If you plan on living in the dorms make sure to fill out the proper paper work and make the right payments so you can choose early, dorms fill up fast and you want to make sure to get a nice place to live since you'll be sharing such a small space with a roommate..or two.
Bang for the buck WVU is one of the cheapest schools I looked at and has to most to offer. They have top rated programs and the best professors you can find. You also receive free admission to sporting events which you don't find everywhere. Also the dorm life isn't bad and the food isn't terrible either. I would definitely say that WVU is worth the money.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the atmosphere in Morgantown. There is never a dull moment on the weekends whether it's going to a sporting event or hitting the clubs with a few friends you can find anything to do. Sporting events, especially football games, are my personal favorite. Seeing the amount of pride students at wVU have will encourage anyone to come to school here and know that they belong. This school may be big but we are all one big family.
Am learning a lot WVU has some of the top professors in the country, I have learned a lot more than I expected since I got here. WVU is a very large school, but by being an engineering student I have been able to have smaller class sizes, personalized tutoring, and professors who take time to talk outside of class. Other majors also have these benefits especially after their freshman year.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students To be at a student at WVU, you'll need to be outgoing and friendly, considering there are more than 30,000 students on campus. You'll need to be focused but make sure you can find some time to relax as well. Take part in everything you can, and take lots of photos!! This is a big part of your life so make some memories!
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would give to prospective students would be: *Live in the dorms--you'll meet so many people, and it's a great way to transition from your home life to college life. And having a stocked cafeteria right down the hall is never a bad thing either. *Control your nightlife--there are a lot of things going on at WVU at all hours of the night. But everyone knows that staying up late can cause sleeping in late and missing classes. *Use the resources--when a professor offers extra credit, take it; if the math lab is open, go; if you have a question, ask someone. You're paying to be there, so take advantage of all of the great things WVU has to offer!!
Bang for the buck I live in West Virginia, and the in-state tuition is incredible. And from what I've heard, out-of-state tuition isn't bad either. No matter the price, it's worth it. The things you'll learn at WVU are incomparable to anything else.
Am enjoying being here Being at WVU is about the combination of a great education with an unforgettable experience. The students are given opportunities to attend huge events, such as sporting events and big-name concerts. With so many clubs and all of the other attractions, I can guarantee that you will find something that interests you.
Am learning a lot The big classes at WVU can be really intimidating, but it's a great learning environment. You can establish a great relationship with any or all of your professors, even in a class of 300+ students. Learning at WVU is really hands on, which is great in preparing you for your future in the real world. Also, there are a ton of resources around campus to help you get that GPA you've always dreamed of, like the Writing Center and Open Math Lab.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for people who like the outdoors. WVU students get free admission to all sports which is great. So WVU is also for people who like to go to sporting events. There are lots of extracurricular activities that are offered and many clubs that can be joined. So people that like to get involved in things will enjoy the many clubs and organizations that WVU has.
Bang for the buck I came to WVU because it was a great price for out of state students. Illinois's in-state tuition is almost the same as WVU's out-of-state. So why settle for an in-state school when you can experience a whole different scenery?
Am enjoying being here Morgantown is a great place. Everyone is friendly and willing to give a hand with things. There are lots of free activities that they offer for the students. There are also many state parks around Morgantown that I enjoy visiting, Coopers Rock State Park being the closest.
Am learning a lot So far I have learned a lot from WVU. My classes have expanded my knowledge of many subjects. I have also learned life lessons, such as how to keep my academic and social life balanced. WVU will most definitely prepare me for whatever field I choose to go into.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for any type of student. It offers some of the best programs in the country. It has endless opportunities of activities, sports, and even involvement. This shcool isn't specific for any type of person based on your interest because it honestly has anything you enjoy. Whether it be clubs, sports, or meeting new people, WVU is where it is at and should be considered by every person not only here in the Unites States but even other countries.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of everything and anything. Try new things. You will be completely surprised how much you actually enjoy something you actually never pictured yourself doing. If you take my advice on this, you may end up in the right path for a great future in something you did not plan. It truly gives you the gift of being a college student and being well rounded if you just simply try.
Bang for the buck WVU is absolutely worth any dime I have spent or will have to pay back. It is worth any person money or exertion. The reason I say this is because of everything it has to offer. Great professors, great classes, opportunity, involvement, wide range of ethnicity, and on top of that the campus is in the heart of WV and it is beautiful.
Am enjoying being here I 100% do not regret my choice. I enjoy every single day and every single thing WVU has to offer me. I have really gotten a great college experience and wouldn't change 1 thing about it.
Am learning a lot I am absolutely learning more than I have ever expected. I get such great information from every single professor I have had and couldn't be happier. As a freshman, going into all of this, I was scared and thought I would never make it. The professors really have walked me through and have helped me with anything I may be stuck on.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Athletes, sports fans, partiers, academics... most students fit in at WVU.
Tips for prospective students Find out if the place you want to live provides transportation to campus, and finish your schoolwork before you party or you might fail out.
Bang for the buck WVU's tuition is increasing like most other colleges, but most students can get financial aid or scholarships.
Am enjoying being here You can find groups that fit your interests or major, and WVU holds a lot of social events where you can meet people. But since WVU is a party school, you can also run into drunk students late at night who can be rude and sometimes get into fights. Transportation is okay. If you live on campus, you can take the bus or the Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), and most off-campus apartment complexes have shuttles. But it's hard to find parking on campus, and if you park without paying, the parking officers will fine you or tow your car.
Am learning a lot In my experience, even professors of big classes interact directly with individual students both in and out of class. Many professors also take advantage of technology to communicate with students and supplement their classes via email, Youtube, and eCampus. A lot of classes are challenging, but you can pass them if you study enough.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is an awesome school for any type of student. There is a diversity in the activities available, a diversity in the students attending, and a diversity of points of view and attitudes. There is tons to do, as long as you know where to look and make your own fun if all else fails.
Tips for prospective students This is not high school. I can't stress this enough. The instructors do not spoon-feed their students. If there is an assignment due, and it was not handed in with I didn't feel like it as the excuse, you will not be able to make it up. However, as long as grades come first, everything else falls into place, and grades and a social life can be easily balanced. Beware the PRT. XD
Bang for the buck As an out-of-state student, the tuition is killer compared to the in-state. But their financial aid office is willing to help, but only if you go for help.
Am enjoying being here WVU is definitely the place for me. I would regret not going here. Although it is a large school, the campus is split into two campuses. This may sound daunting, but because of my major, I have been on the same one of the two, so it feels like I'm on a small campus. I love, love, LOVE it!
Academic Rigor Although many of my classes have been general ed. classes, I was still able to dive right into my major. Even so, I feel like I learned more in the general classes, a few of which were repeats of classes I had in high school.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i have lived here for the past three years and i have not heard of any serious campus related incidents.
Greek Life although i'm not involved, there are greek organizations at wvu that actively recruit.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus couch burning after sporting events was once revered as a sacred ritual. due to safety issues and regulations, it has given way to new traditions such as the mountaineer mantrip. the mountaineer mantrip is a way for the football fans to be apart of the team, as the athletes complete a 1/4 mile walk to the football stadium, through a gaunlet of fans, prior to kickoff.
Bang for the buck tuition is very reasonable. there are many discounts available in the community to students as well. morgantown is one of the few cities that has actually thrived amongst our nation's recent financial crisis.
What to do for fun sporting events, concerts, many outdoor activities, and a very vibrant night life. wvu consistently ranks in the top 10 for party schools in the nation.
Food and Dining there are quite a few local places that are outstanding. black bear is an absolute must! their menu is mainly organic and local, but do not let that deter you if you have yet to experience healthy food!
Dorm Life the dorms are pretty well centralized to the campus. we also have a rail system called the personal rapid transit, or prt, that can quickly and safely get you to different areas on campus.
Academic Rigor some of the programs here are top notch. exercise physiology and rural medicine are both top 10 programs in the country. we also have a very competitive athletic training program. many professional teams and other division 1 colleges are staffed by wvu alumni. wvu has produced 25 rhodes scholars.
Tips for prospective students plan ahead and try to visit campus before you enroll. there are many great locations to live, but they go pretty quickly.
In three sentences west virginia university offers an amazing experience that is second to none. not only are there very competitive programs on campus, but the mountaineers have become a staple in the world of college athletics. excitement looms in the classroom and at every sporting event!

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus is really safe. There is a lot of police to protect you when the night life gets a little intense.
What to do for fun I can tell you there is never a boring moment on this campus.
Food and Dining the food is great! I am a sophmore now and I still brought a meal plan because it was so good.
Dorm Life the dorms are pretty small but you do get to meet new people and you feel right at home by the end of your first semester.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you learn to balance your time between studying and having fun.
In three sentences One of the greatest schools on the planet. A great and fun place to be. Lots of help when you need it.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Trust me, you are very safe at WVU. Every corner has an officer it seems like.
Greek Life Greek life is awesome. I'm currently proudly representing the Sigma Nu Fraternity and love every minute of my brother hood. Sororities on campus also share the same bond with there sisters and every member you speak to say it is one of their greatest decisions they've ever made.
What to do for fun If you enjoy dancing WVU has many fun groups you can join. The town itself has many clubs to enjoy and if you are of age many bars. You could also partake in the numerous clubs offered. The school also supports many intramural club teams!
Food and Dining Morgantown has a huge variety of restaurants and fits everyone's wants and needs for food! Even the dorm food is great!
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't as bad as some people say it is. I have met some life long and great friends from being put into a dorm my freshman year. Guys take full advantage of this. It is easier to talk to a girl that you relate with since you live in the same building than to see a random girl out.
Academic Rigor Being honest some classes are harder than the next. Any school however reflects, it's as hard as you make it. So put in your hard work and you can increase your GPA like I did and come out top with a 3.8!
Tips for prospective students Don't let the partying aspect influence you. Just because 5% of the school can have a negative impact on the schools reputation many great scholars have come from West Virginia University!
In three sentences Along with a great social atmosphere this school has the many great resources for students. Choosing from three different libraries scattered among the campus and different study groups and tutors you can get a degree with flying colors!

Categories Comments Great for these types of students The school is great for kids that are serious about their education and for athletes
Bang for the buck The school is very cheap in comparison with other schools even for out-of-town students. For military students using the GI-Bill the school participates on the yellow ribbon program so you don't have to worry about the tuition.
What to do for fun I like the outdoors so I recommend to go hiking or biking. Also there many bars and clubs in the downtown area.
Food and Dining There are many restaurants around campus. They go from subway to Japanese food. All the major restaurants are around town too.
Academic Rigor The classes can be hard but the teachers are always available to help. Also, there is free tutoring offered every semester for every subject.
Tips for prospective students The best tip I can offer is if you will be living of campus start looking for apartments early. There are many options but the cheap/good ones go out really quick. You can take the bus to school and is free so you don't have to worry about paying for a parking spot.
In three sentences This school is for students that are determined to finishing their degree. There are many organizations you can join around campus and all will provide a great mountaineer experience. The best part of all is that the school is not as expensive as other schools even for out-of-state students.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Recreation center, local state parks, sporting events, concerts, clubs, and there's always something if you're not afraid to ask around!
Food and Dining The food is cafeteria food, it's not like Momma's cooking but it could be better.
Dorm Life The dormitories do a good job of keeping students prepared for school.
Academic Rigor Advisers are very helpful and professors are always willing to meet and tutor students.
Tips for prospective students It's a big campus. Walk the campus before school starts and learn where your classes are. Living in the dorms isn't bad and can provide a lot of resources to help you succeed, academically and otherwise.
In three sentences WVU is an amazing school in a great location. The faculty and staff is willing to help in every way possible. The school camaraderie is unlike anything I've ever experienced and there is always something to do on campus!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is pretty safe, and police usually respond to dangerous scenarios.
Great for these types of students Great for students with a lot ambition, you can receive a great degree, while enjoying yourself a 100% of the time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Game-days are one the funnest days to spend with your friends.
Bang for the buck Compared to other colleges the cost is pretty much what you would come to expect.
What to do for fun There is a lot of venues to have fun, and a lot of nice people around campus to hand out with.
Food and Dining There are a lot of options to use your meal plans at various locations around campus.
Dorm Life I never lived in the dorms as a transfer student, but from what i hear it is pretty annoying, and life out the dorm where you can truly experience the campus.
Academic Rigor As a computer science major I have classes ranging from philosophy to engineering classes. From my experience classes seem to be taught by competent teachers.
Tips for prospective students Make sure your very focused on what comes first when you enter the University. There are a lot of things to do during the week and weekend.
In three sentences This university is a school centered around the success of their engineering students. Teachers are well qualified, and their are plenty of resources provided for students. The school is also full of diversity.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe. If you are living in Towers or a freshman Hall there is security 24/7 that you must go thru to get to your room every night before you come in.
Greek Life There are many sororities and fraternities at West Virginia University that are great for meeting new people and building connections.
Clubs and Activities There are so many activities at the school. Once you ar ein your major they offer a lot of clubs within your field. If you do not want to join a club there is a gym that is newly rebuilt where you can spend your time, and there is an art center if you want to try a new hobby.
Great for these types of students None
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus A unusual tradition that the school is fighting to stop is burning couches after games days when West Virginia University athletic teams wins.
Bang for the buck West Virginia University is a great school academic wise and opportunity, I have not met one student who has regretted coming to this school.
What to do for fun Greek Life, Major clubs, Other Clubs, Sports, Intramural sports, Club Sports, Watching West Virginia University Sport Games.
Food and Dining The food in Towers is not that great. However, all of the food halls downtown offer good meals if you are on a meal plan. i do not recommend having a food plan after Freshman year.
Dorm Life There are many dorms around West Virginia University for Freshman and Sophomores to reside in. If you want to live downtown closer to where most classes are held and where the nigh life is then I would recommend living in Boreman or Summit Hall. If you want to live in Towers where you have to commute everyday they have 4 towers to choose from which include: Bennett, Braxton, Lyons, Brooke. I personally recommend Towers because it is over 5,000 Freshman and this is where you will develop your knit group of friends which you will have thru out your college experience. Also if you live in Towers, you are more unlikely to go party during the weekdays.
Academic Rigor Like many big campuses, West Virginia University faces some difficulties when it comes to succeeding academically. There is a lot of night life that may distract you, but this will happen at any college you decide on attending. West Virginia University has a lot to offer, and it is your responsibility to find time maintaining these activities and a social life on top of your school work.
Tips for prospective students If you are a Freshman, stay in dorms so that you can meet new people and build your connections. Join as many clubs and activities as possible, especially that have to do with your major because it will help open many opportunities for you.
In three sentences The best choice Financially for Out of State Students that are looking for an away from home college experience. A great college campus life, with many activities, clubs and fraternities and sororities to join and meet new people. Great courses taught by professors who actually want to help you learn and not just pass the class.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck As an in-state student, I definitely think this school has bang for the buck. The academics are great as well as the athletic program. Being a part of this school is definitely worth the price.
Am enjoying being here At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like going to WVU, but I know it was absolutely the best decision for me. I enjoy the environment, the people, the town, the classes, and the events the university sponsors. It is very easy to meet people and there are activities available for everyone.
Am learning a lot Every professor I have encountered is willing to help any student in need of help. The professors are very enthusiastic about their subjects which makes the learning experience better. It's not difficult to find help and there are so many services provided to students to help.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Engineers, socialites, those who like larger schools
Bang for the buck For the low price, both for out of state students and especially for in-state students (an incredible $5,000 for one full year's tuition) the school is an excellent bargain. Especially for those looking for an engineering degree at a lower cost, it's hard to beat such an established university at this price.
Am enjoying being here The school is enormous, with lots of students and places to hang out. There are plenty of clubs and due to its location a dearth of outdoorsy entertainment; only twenty minutes from an enormous lake, surrounded by multiple forests, the school really has the best of both nature and urban entertainment available.
Am learning a lot The classes are good, and the teachers are all surprisingly willing to help students if they're having any difficulties in either their classes or with personal issues. The school is well known for its excellent engineering department, which has a full-bodied and comprehensive course listing. It is a little lacking with some of the other departments, however, and the school's English department is rather lacking in terms of structure.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for all students because the faculty cares enough that they will cater to any student's needs. It is a great school as long as you don't mind walking steps and hills to get to class sometimes.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking at WVU make sure you want to come to a big school. There are a lot of people here and classes can get big, at the same time though, the professors will still try to sit down one on one if you need help. There is always something going on and it is really hard to get bored, and even harder to do all the school work with so many opportunities.
Bang for the buck It is a little expensive for the student housing but no more than any other school. The meal plan is nice but some of the food options on the meal plan are worse than the cafeteria food from high school.
Am enjoying being here I love it in Morgantown. The student body, and the community as a whole are true supporters of the school. ESPN Gameday came a few weeks ago and the town didn't sleep for a week. All the students here have fun and do what ever they want, whether it be class or party.
Am learning a lot I love my current classes. They are a lot different than high school, and I like it. Here the teachers get to teach what they think is important instead of teaching a list of information given to them by the state. This makes is so that the teachers care about what they are teaching and really enjoy what they do, and that makes the classes much more enjoyable and easier to dedicate time to.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Students who want something different, something large, someone who is passionate, and a good time.
Tips for prospective students If the size makes you anxious, don't worry. The classes may be large, but if you take the time to pay attention, do your work, and try to know your professors, they will know you. There is always room for one on one help if you ask for it. People are nice.
Bang for the buck The education you'll receive here is just as good as an education anywhere else. There is a comfort and homey feeling at WVU. People are nice and always willing to help. The dorms aren't terrible.
Am enjoying being here Morgantown is busy enough to stay occupied at all times but small enough to stay focused. There is always something to do--great food, good fun, and lots of things to see. Again, the passion of my professors make it that much easier to feel the same level of interest. You meet a ton of people thanks to the large campus. And that's what college is about.
Am learning a lot My classes are fantastic. My professors are fantastic. And I'm happy with my choice to come to WVU. I'm a fashion major, so a lot of people think my job as a college student is easy as pie. This isn't the case. And knowing my professors have such a passion for the subjects they are teaching and seeing that come across in the classroom is a huge incentive to want to learn.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students WVU is great for self-motivated students (as most colleges are), students looking for a traditional college atmosphere, students who do not know what they want to do with their lives yet because there are so many options for majors, and students who enjoy a very social lifestyle.
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for that real college experience this is definitely the place to be. If you do come here, don't get to wrapped up in the fact that you can easily go downtown on a Tuesday night; I have seen so many people at the end of this semester wishing they would have buckled down a little more. While the stress is pretty minimal here, it's worth it to stay in a night or two to study, then rage all weekend.
Bang for the buck Again, you get out what you put it. It's worth nothing if you come here to party and get a crappy GPA. If you came to get the best of both a learning environment and a social scene, you have come to the right place and you are perfectly capable of having it all here. To me, I have gotten a lot of band for my buck and feel that I am making full use of everything this campus has to offer.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do at WVU, and the nightlife is king. Every night there is something to do, based on the fact that there are so many students here. The people around you are basically all from the Mid-Atlantic mixed with a lot of in-state kids, but the variety of people you meet is still large enough. Everyone here is just looking to have a good time and very friendly. You won't find too many unreasonable people.
Am learning a lot You get what you give when it comes to WVU. If you choose easy classes and decide not to out the effort into them, then of course you're not going to learn as much as the kids who pick more challenging classes and do their work. Professors are always there to help ad and provide helpful office hours, so the amount you learn really depends on if you choose to just barely scrape by or if you choose to apply yourself.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus has a great police force that can be reached anytime of the day or night. the campus is equipped with many emergency stations with a button to push for immediate police assistance. also, a text service is available on the wvu home page for updated alerts about safety hazards, weather alerts, and other safety precautions.
Clubs and Activities i am personally involved in sigma phi epsilon. it is not mandatory to join a club, frat, or sorority but i think it is a good way to meet new people and involve yourself in a new experience.
Great for these types of students students that like a large school. wvu has a little over 30,000 students. students that do not mind having trouble finding parking. and students that like living in a busy town with constant sirens, fun clubs, and all kind of people.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the backyard brawl is when wvu plays it's biggest rival, pitt. however, 2012 may be the last year for the famous backyard brawl. with both teams switching divisions it is unknown if the games will continue between the two teams.
Bang for the buck wvu is about $17,000 for out of state tuition. if you plan on staying in a dorm then it is roughly $28,000 for tuition. i think that it is expensive but wvu does offer plenty of options for the student to get their moneys worth. free sporting events, clubs, a high quality recreation center, and inter-mural sports are all good ways that wvu gives back to it's students.
What to do for fun i meet friends at the mountain lair where we go bowling, play billiards, or sit down for lunch. also, sporting events such as football, basketball, and soccer games are very high energy games that bring a lot of attention from students and other fans.
Food and Dining most food places have good food but are quite expensive. i usually eat lunch in the mountain lair where i can get free refills and good food.
Dorm Life i do not stay in a dorm.
Academic Rigor i am an engineering major and i can honestly say i have never worked harder in my life. in high school everything came very easy for me. but since college started i have been constantly loaded with homework and projects. however, there is a very good feeling of accomplishment that comes with the work load. if i could go back in time knowing what i know now i would not change anything.
Tips for prospective students make sure that you have good shoes to walk in. also, the mountain lair is a great place to meet friends, get lunch, bowl, play billiards, or other thing to pass time. the town gets very busy between 1pm and 5pm so be sure to leave plenty of time if you are driving.
In three sentences the university is very unique. the campus is spread out over a large area so it is important to schedule classes with a long enough break period to switch campuses if needed. finally, there is always something to do and it is very hard to become board in morgantown, wv.

Food and Dining residential housing dining halls don't have the best food but you do have a lot of options considering they are all buffet style. also mountain lair and downtown has many options for food as well.
Tips for prospective students don't think that because of the rumors of wvu being a party school that it's an easy ride through to get a degree. the classes are hard and professors expect you to take the time needed in order to do well.
In three sentences it is a good environment for the entire college experience. it has everything that a college student could want or need such as stores, places to hang out, and various types of entertainment. it is an all around great university and a great, fun town to live in.

Categories Comments What to do for fun up all night is one of the greatest ideas that the university created for students. it provides students with something to do on the weekends, other than sit in a dorm room.
Food and Dining eating out is usually always a better option, but that is to be expected. i mean how many universities could afford a 4, 5 star restaurant for students? the lair features a wide variety, of fast food though.
Dorm Life it is what it is, either you really like it, or you really don't. some dorms are incredibly old, while others have nice amenities. off-campus is definitely the way to do.
Academic Rigor overall pretty great, just a few hiccups here and there. online assignments for certain courses are definitely a painful subject.
Tips for prospective students do not bite off more than you can chew, per say. many freshman change their major sheerly out of the fact that most cannot handle the workload, nor were adequately prepared for the sudden shock of college. also, don't freak out. stress and panic often lower most students current academic standing by reducing their attendance and work habits.
In three sentences one of the most interesting universities. the faculty is great, as well as the classes. one can definitely tell the age progression of all of the buildings at this university.

Categories Comments Campus Safety We have a campus police and a county police, however they tend to only need the campus police except in rare occasions of a fight or party.
Greek Life The Greek life is very popular here however if you don't participate you are not looked down upon because a lot of people do not take part in it.
Clubs and Activities They have any club you could think of from sewing, to archery. We have swim teams and skiing teams and the best part is all of the different clubs can be found on the schools website that way you can know before you sign on as a full time student.
Great for these types of students Great for really every type of student. But I would say the out going and not so easily distracted would be my best pick for here.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have mountaineer days right in the middle of the downtown campus which is open to the whole public.
Bang for the buck There is a bookholders store for any class book that may be needed and the prices are cheaper than any other area on campus.
What to do for fun For fun you could do anything from cosmic bowling to clubs and nightlife. Or even just go to the rec center for a swim after a great workout.
Food and Dining The food is always on the healthier aspects but accessible and nutritious.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There are plenty of new people to meet, athletic events to attend, and places to go, not to mention going to the rec center or Copper Rock, a beatiful visiting view looking over the university.
Food and Dining Having spent a summer camp on campus, I had to eat at only one of the dining halls for three days, and I was content with the food. The variety in just one dining hall is enough to keep me occupied, so with the options to eat in others, I am confident that the food will be great!
Dorm Life Having spent a summer camp on campus and in the dorms, I can testify to the fact that WVU's dorms are of higher standard than most. I will be comfortable staying in them! Air conditioning and heating is included!
Academic Rigor Depending on what your goals are for major, rigorous classes are subjective. Soon I will be attending the institution and can testify to this statement further; however, I intend to take honors classes and challenge myself in such a way.
Tips for prospective students 1. Apply as early as possible, so you can get ahead on admission payments. 2. Do not be afraid to meet new people via YouatWVU or any other safe social media messaging because having connections will make you feel less homesick once in college. 3. Before you commit to WVU, check out the dining halls. I loved eating there, but everyone is different, and you must enjoy what you will be eating for essentially 3/4 of your year!
In three sentences As soon as I walked onto the campus, it was evident I belonged in the colonial style buildings. Stirring the mountain atmosphere, the people, wind, and trees open the eyes to reveal the intriguing, new experiences. The atmosphere is not only welcoming, but it is unique to the place and leaves a nostalgic impression as soon as one leaves.

Categories Comments What to do for fun I became a member of the West Virgina Division 2 Ice hockey team. This takes up alot of my time as well as school work, but there is always down time aswell. On downtime i might go to Coopers Rock, to go on a hiking trip, go downtown to watch a big sports game, or just relax with friends.
Food and Dining There are several places to eat. Each dorm has its own dinning hall, and what a selection they have. There are about on average three or four different meals you can choose from. Also if you are not in the mood for food from the dorms go to the Mountainlair to eat breakfast and dinner at Burgerking, Chickfila, or Quiznos.
Dorm Life Dorm life was great. I lived on a floor with 59 other students. It was a great way to meet new people going to this big of a college. Lots of fun, with lots of activities done with the ones you live with and around.
Academic Rigor Academics are great. They can be challenging at times but nothing that can not be solved if you put forth the effort. Also as i said before, the engineering classes teach a diffrent way, giving hands on experience on real life examples.
Tips for prospective students For all the new students coming into the college, i suggest you keep your eyes and ears open. There is so much to do on campus. Between sports, club sports and inter-murals, organizations and so much more in which you can become involved and meet new people to get associated with.
In three sentences West Virginia University is a great school which gave me the opportunity to study industrial engineering. I believe if you were to study engineering, West Virginia University would be the school to go to. This is because of the experience, methods, classes, and real life situations taught in class.

Categories Comments Campus Safety One of the safest campuses in the country with campus police in abundance to go along with over 50 emergency stations located throughout the campus areas.
Greek Life Plenty of opportunities in Greek life which include the usual partying houses, the community service houses, and the houses which focus on academics. But WVU is known as one of the top 10 party schools in the nation of the past decade.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of diverse and intriguing clubs that range from politics, community services, recreational activities, to martial arts.
Great for these types of students Casual, small town students and the hardcore nerd who would the opportunity of hands on research opportunities. Not to mention the typical party students who come to have fun while getting their degree.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fall Fest is one of the better traditions at the start of each year which recently featured Ludacris and Maroon 5. The Locations would have to include the river and forests where there are plenty of fishing and outdoor activities to do.
Bang for the buck It's a very affordable school for those looking for any sort of degree from associate's to doctorates. I've been told repeatedly that out of state students pay less going to WVU with out of state tuition than any college in their state with in state tuition. It's cheaper in price compared to most schools while offering a plethora of academic and athletic opportunities.
What to do for fun From classes such as Adventure WVU to the Recreation Center offered to students, there are plenty of things to do. The Mountainlair offers games and activities such as bowling while the Rec. Center has countless numbers of basketball courts, multiple swimming pools and hot tubs, a couple of gyms, and other activities such as rock wall climbing. But the one thing any true Mountaineer loves to do is go to sporting events and celebrations like that of the football team.
Food and Dining The food offered by the university itself in the dorms isn't really anything to get excited about besides what's available in the Mountainlair, but there are plenty of other dining places around the main campus and town center. Whether it's fast food, steak houses, or buffets, there's plenty of great choices including Cheddar's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chick-fil-a, CiCi's, Golden Corral, Chili's, Olive Garden, and a Texas Steak House.
Dorm Life Depending on which dorm you live in, it can be anywhere from decent to great. The university offers coed and non coed dorm floors and depending on the dorm, will include lobbies with big screen TV's, a small theater like in Lincoln Hall, or even quit, sound proof study rooms with dry erase boards and computer projectors.
Academic Rigor Though I will admit that WVU's requirements for acceptance are a little to easy to achieve, there are a lot of opportunities in education for those seeking it. The medical school is ranked in the top ten for rural medicine and the academic opportunities are complemented by the close proximity of Ruby Memorial, which is one of the better hospitals in the nation. There are plenty of other challenging courses offered to go along with opportunities of doing research with some of the greatest college professors in the country.
Tips for prospective students Always be ready for a fun time and the opportunity to meet new people and do new, exiting things.
In three sentences There are plenty of activities offered by the university such games at the Mountainlair and Recreation Center. The scenery is beautiful which include rivers, mountains, and forests to go along with the small college atmosphere. Food and Dining Arnold Hall has very good food which is located on the downtown campus. Next would be Summit which is located on downtown campus as well. Third rated in my opinion would be Towers which is located on the Evansdale campus. Each cafe has different food every day providing you with a variety of things to eat. Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Football is the biggest tradition this school has. Although it is very frowned upon and illegal now, the school used to be known for burning couches after every win!
Bang for the buck I chose to leave my home state of NJ to save some money which it definitely did. I would have paid more staying in NJ to go to Rutgers. I am getting a solid education, meeting great new friends and having fun at the same time.
What to do for fun There is always something going on. From sporting events, to recreational sports, to fishing or hitting the bar scene for some happy hour specials. You will never be sitting home bored trying to find something to do.

They are willing to get out and make the same new friends you want to. It is a chance for you to really get to know a lot of new friends very easily!
Academic Rigor As an engineering student, I do spend a good amount of time in the library or in class. That doesn't mean that I am stuck inside all the time. The biggest part about being on your own is the ability to manage your time in a mature manner. Without time managment and will power, you wont succeed anywhere.

Categories Comments What to do for fun We have hiking, areas to play sports, a really nice recreation center, and of course, we are one of the top party schools.
Food and Dining The food is typical college food. It's not amazing, but it's not utterly repulsive either.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice overall. It depends on the hall in which you live, but most of the rooms have enough space and good accomodations. The dorms also have a lot of activites going on during the weeks.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes will be more difficult, but the lower level courses are pretty easy.
Tips for prospective students Go to class, get to know professors, and balance your social life with study and sleep.
In three sentences The campus sprawls across a series of hills, so be prepared to walk up some stairs and incline planes. On the whole, college life is enjoyable, particularly if you like partying, and if you aren't a partier, there are plenty of things to do. You'll probably like it here.

Dorm Life I live in Dadisman and it is the worst dorm out of the rest. It does, however, have a great location and it is easy to get to know people who live inside it.
Academic Rigor This is my first semester of college, and it is a huge transformation from high school. Homework is actually serious. The classes challenge a person to their best ability, but are willing to offer help when needed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe, there are call buttons everywhere for the police . I usually see a few UPD every night when there are people out on the weekends making sure everyone is safe. If you travel with at least one more person you really won't have anything to worry about.
Clubs and Activities Your hall will have many clubs and activities for you to participate in, go to at least a few, it' a great way to meet new people. Get involved in any clubs or honoraries that WVU has to offer that deal with your major, they will look great in the future on applications.
Bang for the buck Go to bookholders for books and the book exchange for cheaper apparel and books. Use all of your meal plan swipes instead of going out to eat or buying food from the grocery store (your parents are already paying for it). If you do go out to eat, you can find cheap restaurants on high street.
What to do for fun Get people together and go play sports (soccer, volleyball, basketball.. etc), it can be a lot of fun when you need a break from studying or something to do on a sunday afternoon. Go for a walk, Morgantown has lots to offer like the arboretum and many other walking and biking trails. Go to up all night at least once and see a movie or get breakfast at midnight.
Food and Dining The dining halls are great and offer a lot of variety but they can get old. The best way to avoid that is to go to different halls or even the lair instead of the same one every night. Don't over eat- they're basically all buffet style but that's the easiest way to gain the freshman 15.
Dorm Life Dorm life is great, you will make many new friends and that will make the adjustment much easier. Don't be afraid to be social, it takes a lot of stress out of your day when you have friends in your hall to go hang out or go places with. Talk to your RA, they are there to help and they really do know what they're talking about (just because they're authority doesn't mean you can't talk to them normally).
Academic Rigor The classes can be hard but if you study things will come much easier. Don't be afraid to talk to the professor, they really do want to help even if you're one of many in a lecture hall, just go see them during their office hours with any questions. Find other people in your classes, sometimes it helps to study in a group and it always gives you someone to go to when you have questions late at night when you can't see a professor or a TA.
Tips for prospective students Don't panic if you don't do well at first, it takes some time to get used to the way exams and lectures work. Always leave time for studying during the week and don't try to cram it all in the night before. Go to the review sessions, the TA's are there to help and it can end up being very useful when you have no idea what to expect on an exam.
In three sentences West Virginia University promotes student learning in a friendly environment. There are always people there to help you with anything from homework and studying to dealing with the everyday stress of college. The faculty wants you to succeed and they have many great programs to help you do that.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I never felt unsafe on the campus itself. Downtown...maybe a little. But overall, Morgantown is a very safe town.
Clubs and Activities Lots available. I was active in Hillel and it was like a home away from home really.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking for a well-rounded college experience that consists of good academics, an active social scene, and meeting others from different backgrounds. Oh, and also be prepared to defend your alma mater because a lot of people just see WVU as a hick party school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The PRT! Tons of students complain and gripe about it, but I found it to be very convenient. I even had my own car, but still prefer the PRT over sitting in traffic and trying to find a parking spot.
Bang for the buck For WV residents, the tuition is not bad. For out of state students, the price can be good or bad....depending on what tuition is like in your home state. In my case, WVU was the same price as in-state schools (in PA). However now it's more expensive. So 3 stars here because it seems to be getting worse and worse by the year. The plus side is that the cost of living in Morgantown is really low.
What to do for fun Morgantown is a great place is you are the outdoorsy type. This isn't my speed so much. I used to work at Mountaineer Mall and University Towne Center has a lot of shopping, eateries, and a movie theatre.
Academic Rigor The academics are not cut throat. But the coursework is challenging. Of course this depends on your major. Many students take advantage of study groups, tutoring services and other means if they are struggling.
Tips for prospective students Don't get caught up in statistics and outside perceptions. West Virginia and WVU are not very diverse racially. However the culture there is very down to earth. Keep learning in and out of the classroom. And have fun in the process!
In three sentences WVU is an excellent and comprehensive university. It offers tons of majors and is located in a scenic location. The WVU community is also one of the most spirited and nicest that I've come across anywhere. I'm truly proud to have graduated from there.

Food and Dining They are plenty of places to eat. The dining halls aren't all that bad but they aren't great. Cafe evansdale food can be alright someday. At the mountainlair they have chic-fi-la which is always busy. They also have Burger King so food options aren't really bad,
Dorm Life Dorm life isn't so bad. Some dorms downtown do not have Air conditioning but they are so close to where you will be taking most of your classes. Evansdale dorms aka towers are really nice they do have air conditioning but you have to depend on public transportation and the prt to get to most of your classes.
Academic Rigor There are so many different majors you can choose from. Of course the school has its top majors like exercise physiology, biology and psychology. There plenty more major and minors you can do.
Tips for prospective students Definitely be ready for a lot of walking, fun and cheering. There is so many different activities to get involve with on this campus. So really get involved. Very hilly campus so be ready for walking up very steep hills and going down. Bring clothes for all weather one week it will be 80 degrees and the next 50 degrees.
In three sentences I absolutely love this school. The community is very welcoming and the school is dedicated to helping you. I give this school an 8 out of 10.

Clubs and Activities The varsity sports are exciting to watch every weekend as well as be a part of. If varsity sports arent your strength then there are intramurals at the rec centre or a lot of different clubs about various interests.

Academic Rigor I am a Pre-Pharmacy major so my classes are rather hard. I recently changed my major from accounting and those classes weren't particularly easy either but I still did well in them.

Categories Comments What to do for fun What I like to do for fun is either play guitar, hang out with friends, or just go out to eat with everyone. They usually have a bunch of activities you can do over the weekend, like skiing, camping, or just random trips. It seems like there is always something to do here and you will never get bored of it.
Food and Dining The food actually isn't all that bad. I enjoy most of it. You will never go hungry I can tell you that much, because there have so many different options for food. For as much as it costs it is definitely worth it.
Dorm Life The dorm life is great. I absolutely love it. Especially on a coed dorm. You can just walk into anybodies room you want, well as long as they let you. All your friends are usually right there on the same floor as you. It is great to have everyone right there just in case you need them for anything. I would never get bored of the dorm life.
Academic Rigor The difficulty isn't all the bad. Some subjects are more challenging than others. It always seems to keep me on my toes though. I have always had trouble with school so I think all of it is challenging. I love a good challenge. The harder it is the more you have to work to get a good education, and you learn more along the way.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you know all the schools rules and guidelines. Try and stay on top of everything so you don't fall behind. Keep a calender and a schedule of all your classes, and assignments. It will definitely make college a whole lot easier.
In three sentences West Virginia University is a great school with amazing opportunities to do what you want in life. They offer so much and help everyone out as much as they can. To be honest this school is the best and I love it.

Categories Comments What to do for fun For fun you will find yourself at the student recreational center a lot. The student rec center is a place where all the students like to hang out and exercise with one another. The night life gets even better! We have quite a few night clubs located in the center of our downtown campus. During the weekends High Street is absolutely filled with students partying and having fun. Oh, and don't count out the house parties!
Food and Dining If you ever get the chance to even visit Morgantown, WV you have to make sure you go to High Street located in the center of the downtown campus. In the center of campus you have a strip of restaurants such as subway,Quiznos, and buffalo wild wings just to name a few. And if you don't get the chance to try any of those, i highly recommend you go to a restaurant by the name of Sandwich U. Just trust me!!
Dorm Life The institution has beautiful dorms all over campus. Dorms such as Lincoln Hall, the Honors Dorm, and Summit Hall come highly recommended. These dorms are the closets thing to presidential suites at the Hilton hotel.
Academic Rigor Although West Virginia is ranked among the top schools in the nation when it comes to partying, as a student you must stay focused on your purpose of being at the institution; and that is to get your degree.
Tips for prospective students West Virginia has a beautiful campus and a number of activities for students to partake in. This is a excellent school choice for any student who wishes to further their education.
In three sentences West Virginia University is a wonderful institution to attend. They have a list of majors to choose from and a wonderful sport and exercise psychology program. The staff and faculty are committed to having each and every student succeed.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have never heard of problem on campus about the security. There are those emergency poles with the flashing light on top everywhere and I mean everywhere. On game days they are lying in wait for it to end already geared up. They patrol at night and you can sign up for the emergency alert and you can get a text say...bad guy in this area spotted...don't come here. So....it's safe! Parents do not need to worry.
Greek Life I myself....am not into the Greek Life scene, but several of my friends are. Trust me half of them are nothing like those portrayed on tv, and the other half are only half the extent of what is on tv, but I can not tell you if that is a good thing or a bad thing. A lot of the sororities/fraternities have houses, but several do not just to let you know.
Clubs and Activities Well they have tons and tons and TONS of clubs. Most of them are good, some are bizarre, but there something for everyone. Dorms usually have their own specific clubs going on away from the campus wide ones. The Student Recreation Center also offers classes like Zumba and Yoga every week.
Great for these types of students All types of students come here and make it work. College is what you make of it. There is always something for every type of person.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Well of course one tradition is the different music and hand movements that occur at every football game whether home or away, but you catch on pretty quickly. I don't think there is any unusual locations on campus, but I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.
Bang for the buck Here it is....the school is cheap. It's EXTREMELY cheap for instate students and cheap for out of state students. In fact it was cheaper for me to go here than in my own state. Also some programs (depending on where you live and what major you go into) offer instate tuition for out of staters. Overall it is a really good price for a really great academic program with all the extras thrown in.
What to do for fun Well, too many to list. The dorms usually have something going on every weekend and they have so many events going on in each of the individual colleges that I doubt there is one weekend where something isn't going on. They also have a program called WVUp All Night, where they show a movie (free for students) in their movie theatre and have some entertainment and free food at midnight. There is also the games area under the mountain lair, but if that's not good enough there is always a walk down High Street with its many restaurants. You can always go to the Student Recreation Center. That place has everything....a nice pool, several courts, a rock wall, raquet ball, two weight/work out rooms, an indoor track....the list goes on and lastly there is always a party someone.
Food and Dining Well, what do you expect it's college food. They have some really good food once in a while at the many dining halls, another nice feature is the grab n go. It's like a fast food restaurant without the fast food part. Also for an prospective engineers out there, there is a great place in the engineering building itself called bits and bytes where you can grab a snack or a full on meal. A place you'll eventually depend on.
Dorm Life Depending on where you life dorm life is good to great. I lived in honors and I have to say it is the best dorm on campus. The dorms always have some sort of activity going on and the people tend to be pretty laid back and fun provoking.
Academic Rigor Classes range from easy to hard but they are pretty consistent in each department. I do not know what to say about it. It all depends on you're major and what you think is easy. Yes, you'll have a lot of homework that may or may not count and have to study for test, but if you don't goof off and just get over with, you usually have a lot of time to spare.
Tips for prospective students Check out the campus and get a tour before you decide on anything. Talk to some of the current students if possible. Don't be scared of the campus being spread out it is not as far apart as it seems.
In three sentences A school filled with happy and nice partiers. A school filled with pride and a sense of belonging. A big campus with a small campus feel.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Emergency buttons are located all over campus. The steps were created with safety in mind. They are larger so if you were running up them it would be easier.
Greek Life I am not a member of a sorority or fraternity.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs that you can join here!!
Great for these types of students Dedicated students who don't want classes that are too big or too small.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I love to go to E. Moore Hall and read. The building takes me back in time.
Bang for the buck As a resident of WV, I get a discount on tuition.
What to do for fun Cooper's Rock is close if you like nature. Or Pittsburgh is only an hour drive north, so a day trip there is easy.
Food and Dining There are definitely plenty of places to eat.
Dorm Life The dorms are nice, but I like living on my own.
Academic Rigor I feel that I am challenged academically.
Tips for prospective students This is not a party school unless you make it one.

Categories Comments Campus Safety It is pretty safe around campus, especially night time. There are many police officers, safety rangers, and fire marshals on patrol. If there ever was a problem they are not far away at all, I always see them on duty.
Greek Life There are at least 8 sororities and 16 fraternities at West Virginia University. Greek Life is very active at our school and a lot of people get into it. I am not apart of a sorority because I chose not to be but it is definitely very popular on campus and it is easier to make long term friends.
Clubs and Activities There are plenty of school organizations on campus that have an unlimited variety of options. Anyone can get involved and want to meet new people with the same interest. If there is something that you would like to do but it hasn't been invented yet, students can have to make a petition and get as much signatures as they can to get it approved.
Great for these types of students WVU is definitely great for any type of student. There are so many different people to meet that have so many different interests. From Greek Life, to sport fans, to any student organization you can think of, this school is great for you! Everyone can feel like they belong once they find their place and West Virginia University is the heart of it all.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Some unusual traditions we have are burning couches. It is very dangerous but this mostly happens after a really successful win after football games or a crazy party that breaks loose. I think it is really fun and exciting even though it is illegal but it is what the school is occasionally known to do. Some really cool places on campus is definitely high street. It has so many good restaurants and sights to see.
Bang for the buck WVU is worth the money that college students pay for it. It is a very great and diverse school that has a lot to offer to students. The tuition is pricier for out of state students but it is worth every penny when you really take advantage of all the opportunities you can get.
What to do for fun On the weekends there is usually house parties or clubs to go to. However, I also like going to different restaurants because most of them are unique and not food chains. I also like going to the mall and occasionally to the movies. There is also WVU up-all-night on the weekends in the Mountain Lair that provides students many different activities and events.
Food and Dining The dorm food is tolerable on some days and other days it tastes very good. I particularly like when dorm diners have a special event because they have new meals and variety. In the Mountain Lair cafeteria, the fast food places can be repetitive but it is the best option on most days. Overall, there is various food options to choose from.
Dorm Life I really like that I got the experience to live without my parents and be in charge of myself. I have gotten into arguments with my roommate but it hasn't completely interfered with our boundaries together. The RA's are very strict, which makes me feel restricted sometimes but I still enjoyed living away from home it has helped me mature faster.
Academic Rigor It can be quite challenging at times during midterms and finals week. Many students struggle with the work load they have but it isn't as hard if you plan ahead of time. Studying in study rooms or libraries are helpful because of less distractions. It is all based on determination, timing and planning.
Tips for prospective students I suggest that prospective students to be sociable and try to be apart of as many events and opportunities as possible. All students want is acceptance and the most out of their college experience, which is why students need to put themselves out there. I suggest attending games, joining clubs and activities, become friends with people in the dorms and keep in contact with classmates. I also think that new students should always make time to study and keep their school work first. Keep in mind the amount of work you have versus the party you want to attend. It very important to avoid procrastination and if you need help always email your professors or go to tutoring.
In three sentences WVU is a great college for students who want to feel like they belong to something. The people here are friendly and linked together especially during game seasons. We all are proud of our school and we show it with our Mountaineer pride whenever we win or lose.

Categories Comments Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Couch burning.
What to do for fun Most people party for fun. However, there are arts events and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. If you're coming to WVU, plan on attending something at the Creative Art Center. No matter what you decide to see there, you will not be let down.
Food and Dining There are a lot of options for dining if you are downtown. If you are Evensdale, pack lunch.
Dorm Life The dorms are generally in poor shape. While most of the dorms offer many social events, they are pathetic as far as being study friendly. Furthermore, calling one of the dorms home for a year may work on your mental health.
Academic Rigor At WVU you can major in rigorous programs like nursing and engineering. Or you can choose a major that will not challenge you and will mostly be composed of busy work. It varies.
Tips for prospective students WVU is a party school. Hands down, that is the atmosphere here. If you are looking for a place where you can excel academically, this may not be the place for you. It can be hard to keep your concentration, but if you can focus and think you can appreciate all that WVU has to offer, it may be the right place for you.
In three sentences West Virginia University is a huge campus with opportunities for everyone to experiment on academic and personal levels. The university is a prime example of good intentions that have horribly failed. Many students are satisfied with the campus environment but transportation around town is nearly impossible.

Great for these types of students Students who want to go out and try new things but also focus on school.

Bang for the buck For the price I pay I feel like I get a good deal. The amazing rec center is free for student as well as all transportation. Meal plans are reasonable as well and many student discounts available.
What to do for fun Join clubs, greek life, clubs, rec center, resident hall trips, up all night, bowling, and much more
Food and Dining I definitely wish the food was more food and less plastic tasting, but the options were always pretty good at the dorms depending on my mood.

Academic Rigor I feel challenged, but never too overwhelmed to the point i couldn't handle it.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to get yourself out there and try new things or else you will feel stuck.

Great for these types of students Fun-lovers, typical college students, but people who are hard working and know that school comes before play.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It is not the best tradition, but after every home football game that we win, the students like to literally burn their couches.
What to do for fun There are many places that you can walk to and shop, football games during the fall, and many plays and other sporting events are always going on. Also, the campus always has fun events and booths set up for its students to enjoy.
Tips for prospective students Go to class everyday you have it because in a lot of classes here, your grades rely heavily on your attendance in the class. Also, it is easy to get caught up in the college experience here, so make sure you get your course work done and learn to say no.

Categories Comments What to do for fun A lot of kids like to go downtown and enjoy the clubs. I personally live for Saturday football games where you can tailgate at the crack of dawn and celebrate being a Mountaineer. There is nothing like singing country roads with a group consisting of friends, family, fellow students, and alumni.
Food and Dining The dorm food was very good. There was always a variety. The food surrounding campus is also very delicious and appealing. Every year there is always a new restaurant waiting to be taste-tested when students return in the Fall.
Dorm Life The dorm life is an amazing experience that every freshman should experience. Starting college can be scary, especially when you come from a small town, like I did, to a university with tens of thousands of students. Being a part of the dorm experience was like being a part of something bigger than myself. At a time where I was nervous, yet excited, I got to integrate with hundreds of kids just like me who were conquering the same battle. It was liberating and something that definitely shaped my look and understanding of college.
Academic Rigor A lot of people think that because WVU is a party school, our academics are not up to par. In the psychology department, there are amazing staff members who are experts at what they do. Nearly every class I have taken has challenged me in some way, whether it be by public speaking, writing, or understanding difficult concepts.
Tips for prospective students Make friends, learn from the diversity, and embrace the essence of emerging adulthood.
In three sentences West Virginia University is like no other place in the world. Being a student there is a humbling experience and has allowed me to truly open my eyes to the world. I used to think having ambition meant going to college to grow up and have a lot of money, but I've learned from WVU that ambition is experience, knowledge, and hope for the future.
