Great for these types of students

If you like the mountains or the outdoors you will like Western. Base Camp Cullowhee is always organizing awesome outdoor activites.

    Tips for prospective students

Its small enough that you'll recognize or know a lot of people, but big enough that everyone is not in your business. The smaller class sizes are a huge advantage because you are able to get more time with the professor when you need help.

Great for these types of students

outdoor people, education majors, people interested in marching band (number 1 in the nation! :))

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit us! It isn't the same to just read a review, gain experience! Walk around campus with a tour guide that can tell you anything you want to know and some fun facts that you'll always remember.

    Bang for the buck

My favorite part of tuition cost is the book rental policy. For $107, you get ALL the books you need for a semester. And you can return them at the end, so you don't have books you don't need sitting around. If you want, you can pay a discounted price to keep a book you want. This is one of Western's most exciting offers.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being in the mountains and Western is located in the perfect setting. Located in a valley, we get perfect weather most of the year. We have a small campus so it is easy to find your way around and you won't feel completely overwhelmed on your first day.

    Am learning a lot

The class size average is about 30 students which is good for student-professor relationships. You are able to get to know your professor in a setting not much different from high school. Professors strive to make time for your questions and want to see you succeed.

Mountain lovers should attend here. Students who want a great education for low costs should attend here. Students who want to be part of great friendly and easy going environment should attend here. If you don't want to have a pay for text books, Western has a rental system.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you attend class everyday. Have a personal relationship with your advisor - they are there to help you. Use the library, they have great resources for you and the people who work there can help you. Use the writing center, they will help you with your papers.

    Bang for the buck

The cost to attend is reasonable and the quality of the school is amazing for the low costs. The convenience of food is good and the quality. Western also provides many services to help you academically, advisors are there to help step by step. They have disability services and Student Support Services.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful in its setting in the mountains. The school holds many activities for you to participate in with your friends. Everyone is friendly and I have made many friends. There are many clubs and organizations for any type of interest.

    Am learning a lot

The classes are small enough that the teachers give you the attention you need and make themselves available for you if you need extra help. Western also has great departments for you to choose from. Western has a special department for Entrepreneurship, which I am in. The classes there will help me one day have and run my own bookstore.

Tuition recently increased, but other than that, the facilities are well-maintained and the education is definitely worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

    Campus Safety

Western Carolina has its own University Police Department to provide law enforcement and crime prevention, active 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The emergency siren and PA system immediately alert students in the event of a campus lockdown.

    Greek Life

WCU is home to 14 fraternities and 9 sororities. Greek life at WCU opens doors to great networking opportunities, scholarships and lifelong friendships.

Great for these types of students

WCU is great for students who appreciate the unique mountain culture of North Carolina and don't mind being an hour drive from any big city.

    Bang for the buck

WCU is one of the most affordable colleges in the UNC system, with approximate cost of attendance being $7000 per semester for in-state students and $12,000 per semester for out-of-state students.

    What to do for fun

Even if you spend the next four years of your life at WCU, you will never run out of things to do at WCU. The campus itself has a pool, movie theater, a rock-climbing wall, and intramural sports teams. Base Camp Cullowhee is a club that provides you with the opportunity to go rafting, hiking, caving, whitewater kayaking, camping, skiing, skydiving and more. The Tuckaseigee River and Bear Lake are also close by and provide even more fun. If you're not an outdoorsy person, head downtown to enjoy shopping and nightlife!

    Food and Dining

Students living on and off-campus can participate in WCU's different meal plans. The courtyard dining hall serves homestyle meals, and two food courts provide mall-like dining with a Chikfila, Papa John's, Panda Express and several other restaurants . The campus also has a McAlister's deli, a Starbucks, Einstein Brother's Bagels, and a Java City.

    Dorm Life

Freshmen are required to live on campus. This is important because it provides you with opportunities to become involved with the university and exposes you to a greater variety of people. While living in a dorm, everything on campus is within walking distance. Each of the 13 residence halls at WCU provide their own unique experience. Amenities and rules vary from building to building. Although you are allowed to move off-campus your sophomore year, many students choose to continue living on-campus.

    Academic Rigor

WCU's entrepreneurship and project-management programs are the highest-ranked in the nation. The criminal justice and teacher education programs have won national awards, and the emergency medical care program is the first accredited four-year program in the nation. Academics at WCU are held to very high standards and students will be challenged to step above and beyond their comfort level in order to stay on top of their education. For the exceptional student, the Honors College offers an even more rigorous--but very rewarding--academic experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for cold and snowy weather! Not every winter is brutal, but it can happen! Classes are very rarely cancelled due to snow, so be sure to bring your snow boots. Once class is done for the day, grab your sled and enjoy the snow mountain-style!

    In three sentences

If you are looking for a superb education, a beautiful campus, and a phenomenal college experience at a competitive price, Western Carolina University is the perfect college for you. Smack in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Western Carolina has some the best scenery around and offers some of the nation's highest-ranked academic programs. Home to less than 10,000 students, class sizes are relatively small and tuition is extremely affordable, making Western Carolina University the best in every category.

Great for these types of students

Great for outdoorsy people, or people looking to experience something new. Very scenic place.

    Tips for prospective students

You're going to need a car, town is about 10 minutes down the road and it's hard to get around without one!

    Bang for the buck

Probably THE cheapest public school in NC, with a lot to offer. Brand new dorms, a beautiful huge new gym with a rock climbing wall, many intramural sports to join, free tutoring for many many classes, writing lab for those tough papers, math lab for all math courses! All for FREE. You don't have to pay for books because that's included in tuition as well!

    Am enjoying being here

Many organizations on campus that promote outdoor activities. We live in the mountains, so there are a lot of things for us to do. Hiking, visiting water falls, whitewater rafting, etc!

    Am learning a lot

Great programs, hands-on learning. Much better then just traditional lecturing. Projects, homework, etc all reflect course material and are very helpful. Many resources available to us such as tutoring, writing workshops, and math labs.

Great for these types of students

This place is great if you like the small town feel. Also if your an outdoors person. It's really nice out here in the fall.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come visit before you decide to come here. You'll know once you're here if you'll like it.

    Bang for the buck

Probably one of the more cheaper schools in North Carolina. I certainly enjoy getting my education for not as pricey as other school.

    Am enjoying being here

Sure it's a small school, but you'll get over it. Seeing as it's smaller you'll be able to see and know more people around campus. There are lots of activities going on every week so there's always something to do. It's also not too far to towns nearby if you need to get out.

    Am learning a lot

Most of my classes are really small, so that leads to a better student-teacher relationship. All of my professors this semester are very knowledgeable and cool, which makes for class being more fun.

Great for these types of students

IF you are an outdoor adventurer, WCU is the school for you. WCU offers amazing outdoor activities, such as rock climbing, white water rafting, etc. Also for students who love music, WCU has an awesome music program. We have the number one band in the nation, who has recently performed at the Rose Bowl. They put on great shows that not only brings the current students to the game but people who live in the surronding areas.

    Tips for prospective students

If you choose Western Carolina University, do not let your college experience go to waste. WCU has so much to offer. WCU can learn from you as much as you can learn from the institution. So don't jump be on campus, become apart of it and be a CATAMOUNT!!!

    Bang for the buck

Who could ask for more. You get a great education, fine dining and living conditions, and most exciting of all, you get the wonderful experience of the mountains. From the many colors during the fall to the white winter, everything is beautiful. You get to experience the mountains like never before when you participate in the many outdoor and indoor activities that WCU has to offer. The most fun you will have at an college.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being apart of Western Carolina University's campus life. It is very lively and gives you options. From the new recreation center to the new dining hall establishment, you will feel at home on this campus. The people are nice and the views are amazing.

    Am learning a lot

Western Carolina University is an institution with well developed professors. They work with the class and also the individual student to ensure the best for your education. I have had only positive interactions with the faculty and staff of the university. I plan on attending this university until my graduation date because I feel they do their best to ensure a good education.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a wide variety of organizations you can get involved in.

    Bang for the buck

    The money is worth it!

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of activities in and around campus. There are many hiking tails and rivers to kayak/whitewater down right here by the campus. There are many waterfalls you can hike to or you can go to a concert or sporting event on campus. Trust me, you will not get bored.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing! There is a wide variety of options for you every day all day.

    Dorm Life

I recommend living on campus for your first year. You get to be with everyone, be very close to your classes, and you will be more involved with activities on campus by living on campus. Living on campus will help you so much in your transition from high school to college.

    Academic Rigor

If you go to class and pay attention you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

The best advice I received when I first came to Western is to get involved with activities on and around campus. You are able to meet so many more people that will impact your life and will help you with your academics and when you apply for jobs after graduation. Get involved!

    In three sentences

The environment is amazing and not only the teachers but everyone is very helpful. Western will your home away from home and you will be proud to call yourself a Catamount. At Western, there is so much to do academically and recreationally so you will never get bored.

    Campus Safety

Western is a very safe campus. I never have had problems with my safety here on campus.

Great for these types of students

Western Carolina is great for students who come from small towns.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One unusual tradition that WCU holds is the battle of the jug with App State. This battle deals with our football rivalry with App State. This tradition is taken very seriously.

    Bang for the buck

Western in one of the cheaper colleges in North Carolina, and yet it's academics can still compete with other colleges.

    What to do for fun

For fun one could join many campus activities or travel to Franklin, about 30 minutes away, for roller skating or bowling. Also there are different hiking trails in the local area for outdoorsy people. Asheville is about 45 minutes away and is the closest big city.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining here on campus is of good quality but it tends to get routine. It is best to get the meal plan with the largest amount of declining balance so you can eat at Mcalisters, because it is the best on campus. If you eat off campus every once in a while, you should be fine.

    Dorm Life

The dorms at Western vary for each one. The Honors College dorm, Balsam, and Blueridge are neighboring buildings both dorms include air condition and a private bathroom. Scott is considered the freshman dorm and does not contain air condition or wireless internet, the bathrooms are also community/hall baths, there are two to each floor. Walker another freshman dorm is suite-style in that you would share a bathroom with 7 other people.

    Academic Rigor

Compared to some colleges the classes at Western are definitely easier, but you cannot slack off. Although the classes can be classified as easier they are still quite difficult. Studying is recommended if you want to make A's.

    Tips for prospective students

The only thing close is a Wal-mart so WCU may not be the school for you if you are used to having large shopping centers. The school is located in Cullowhee, NC that is a neighboring city to the slightly larger Sylva, NC but if you are used to big cities, it would not be the place for you. Western is the perfect school for people that come from small towns because you will feel like you are back home. At WCU professors and students are able to have great relationships because of the small class sizes. The campus is small and so there is no need for lots of walking. The most important thing to remember is to always carry an umbrella because the weather is temperamental. WCU = WE CARRY UMBRELLAS.

    In three sentences

Western Carolina University is a fantastic school. It offers great academics while still being a beautiful campus. It is small, and so the class sizes are even smaller than at my high school.

Great for these types of students

People who love the Mountains and small towns, people who like the outdoors and community service.

    Bang for the buck

It's probably one of the most affordable In-state tuition I've come across.

    Will enjoy being here

There is always something to do from the schedule. There's plenty of clubs and activities so you can get involved! It's in a very small town. It's pretty much a community of it's own. The college has also won awards for their service projects, which I'm a big fan of. Everyone here is so nice and they're willing to make sure you feel comfortable and you are well advised.

    Will learn a lot

Western has won awards for their Masters college and has been recognized for their Undergraduate school. They are interested in actually teaching the student. We will come first. They offer free proof reading for your essays and free tutoring!

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves mountains, the great outdoors, and music.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring a fan! The freshman dorms don't have air conditioning. Bring warm winter clothes and blankets. Definitely bring an umbrella.

    Bang for the buck

Quite affordable as far as public four year universities go. The book rental system is good. There are a lot of free services and free, or cheap, activities. The school sells laptops that are configured for the school, software, and has some stores. There are cashpoints on campus and an SECU across the road. Your student ID serves as a meal card, etc.

    Will enjoy being here

Concerts, movies, rafting, hiking, a climbing wall, karaoke, indoor pools, an indoor track, museums, sports, good food, a beautiful campus, friendly people, and a casino on the nearby reservation. The only drawback is the distance from family.

    Will learn a lot

The classes are about the same size as in high school, which is good for building relationships with classmates and professors as well as getting help. There's also free tutoring. The forensics department even has the second of only five body farm facilities in the nation.

    Campus Safety

Western is a safe campus, pretty much all we might have to worry about is bears walking around campus which has happened before! But other than that their really is not a lot of crime here in good ol' Cullowhee.

    Greek Life

Absolutely love greek life! Western's greek life has grow so much over the years and I believe it has gotten better every year. I am a sister of Alpha XI Delta, I went greek in fall 2011 and it has changed my life so much! For the better, of course. Greek life offers so many new opportunities for students and gets you involved in not only school functions but the surrounding counties.

    Clubs and Activities

Western has a lot of different clubs to join for all students interests. One club that is really awesome is Base Camp Cullowhee. This camp is ran by students (and teachers) taking other students on trips outdoors. They set up trips such as snowboarding, rafting, camping and rock climbing and so many others!

Great for these types of students

Great for anyone that wants to be apart of a smaller school and get involved in a lot of activities. Then this is the perfect school for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are not too many traditions that I can think of but at Western we plays humans vs. zombies which is like a huge game of tag across campus. We also have a Catamount as our mascot. It looks like a really bit bobcat and his name is Paws! Go Cats!!

    Bang for the buck

Western is very reasonable for students in-state it is on the cheaper side of the universities scale, but also it is not too expensive for out-of-state students as well.

    What to do for fun

So many things to do for fun here! Every outdoor you can think of from rafting to rock climbing even to just hanging out at the fountain with friends listening to live music!

    Food and Dining

Western has many choices. We have the cafeteria and many fast food chains on campus. We also have a lot of restaurants in town a few miles away.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are so much fun! There are all kinds of dorms to accommodate every student that comes to WCU; such as all girls or all boys, single rooms or double with community or private bathrooms as well, newer buildings and older. Everyone can pretty much get exactly what they are looking for in a dorm.

    Academic Rigor

The academics and teaching is excellent. The teachers go out of their way to help each and every student. If you work hard you can be very successful.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a smaller school campus Western would be an amazing choice. But most definitely bring an umbrella because in Cullowhee, WCU stands for We Carry Umbrella's, but that is just a little joke here in the Whee.

    In three sentences

If you love the mountains and outdoors, Western is great! Beautiful weather and the school takes full advantage of that with activities. Great place to earn your degree while having loads of adventures and meeting a bunch of great people!

Great for these types of students

WCU is a great school for ANYBODY. It is a really unique and diverse campus, and I'm sure that anyone who decides to become a Catamount will find their perfect little niche and fit right in.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to come to WCU just because its a small school in a small town-- that doesn't mean that there aren't fun things to do and opportunities abound. Get out and meet new people, who knows, some of them might end up being the best friends you've ever had.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely feel like WCU is a school that is reasonably priced and gives you more than what you paid for.

    Am enjoying being here

At WCU there are many things to do-- concerts provided by the student council, plays and performances by the theatre groups, intramural sports, various student organizations to join-- on a weekly basis. There is never a dull moment when living in the 'Whee.

    Am learning a lot

At Western Carolina University I feel like I am being challenged in my courses and learning something new every day. The faculty and staff are extremely friendly and always willing to make time to provide extra help when needed. I have learned many new things since starting school here last fall.

If you love the outdoors than this is a great school for you. The campus is absolutely gorgeous and because it rests in the valley it can have the best weather. If you like to stay focused in school without any outside distractions then this is a great place for you. Asheville is the closest big city and its a forty-five minute drive to get there.

    Tips for prospective students

Always carry an umbrella. WCU stands for We Carry Umbrellas. It rains all they time. I would recommend buying rain boots as well. They come in handy.

    Bang for the buck

The school is relatively cheap but as I said, I personally felt that certain majors excelled there. It's a quiet life-style with a decent academic curriculum. Basically you get what you pay for.

    Did enjoy being here

The campus is absolutely beautiful and rests in a valley. If you love the outdoors and like a campus that keeps to itself, then this is the right university for you. There's tons of outdoor activities to participate in like white water rafting, rock climbing, hiking etc. The only thing around is a wal-mart, an irish bar and a waffle house. But honestly you have everything you need on campus.

I learned a great deal when it came to my major. I learned a bit outside of my major courses as well, but the academics are not that challenging.

Great for these types of students

Social students who like to participate.

    Tips for prospective students

The Cat Tran is your best friend.

    Bang for the buck

There's always something going on here. Concerts, art shows, comedy shows, plays, etc. and they're usually free or reduced a great amount If you're bored, it's because you're not going out.

    Am enjoying being here

The people, the events, the teachers, the scenery; I enjoy it all! I miss it when I'm gone, and I never want to leave.

    Am learning a lot

The curriculum is challenging, but it's that challenge that helps us to grow intellectually and professionally.

Great for these types of students

Outdoorsy types, music lovers, and people who dislike cities

    Tips for prospective students

Bring a fan and umbrella. Freshman residence halls are not air conditioned. Learn to do your own laundry and either have CatCash or plenty of quarters.

    Bang for the buck

Pretty affordable for a four year university. You can rent textbooks rather than buying them and a lot of the activities are free and affordable.

    Am enjoying being here

There are movies every weekend at the school theater, there's a pool, and there's a recreation center with a climbing wall. The people are pretty nice and the food is good. There's a Subway on campus as well as a Panda Express. There are sometimes concerts too. There is a good health center. The band is great.

    Am learning a lot

Western offers free tutoring and I'm in a Math study group. The courses are fairly challenging and enjoyable overall. The class size is generally about 30 people and you can rent books instead of buying them (except supplemental books).

    Campus Safety

The college is very safe and the cops are some of the nicest people you can ever meet. The only days they can be mean though is on move in a move out day. Little crime happens at this college, but thats needless to say that some crimes do happen. The police men and campus guards work very hard to ensure safety of every student, teacher and faculty member

    Greek Life

Greek life at Western Carolina can get out of control sometimes though. Fraternities and sororities through parties usually on Thursday through Sunday. Some fraternities have been thrown off campus due to excessive rule breaking or are not affiliated with the college. An example could be Pike.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a bunch of clubs at this college. They range from interest clubs(like Video Game and Comic Book club) to academic clubs(like Math and Economics club). I am personally in Comic Book, Anime, Fianance and Investment club and I enjoy the meeting a lot. They have great leaders and students in the clubs.

Great for these types of students

Students who like the mountains, like to be outgoing, and want to attend a very small school. Class sizes usually range from 20 to 30 students, but some classes can have up to 70 students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a dip in between the resident hall, Madison, and the academic building, Moore. Most people know that there was a murder here about 40 years ago and it has come to speculation recently that it is haunted. On Halloween, people try to see the ghost.

    Bang for the buck

There aren't that many people at this school, but the ones there already are very nice people. The football team isn't good at all but the basketball team is great. The school is really hoping to become the next big college in the future. They hope to become this by renovating dorms, building new academic buildings and new dorms.

    What to do for fun

You can go to the Cats Den where there is a bunch of arcade games. You can also hang out with friends by the fountain. Sadly, other then that there isn't much to do. You would have to drive out to Asheville, or Gatlinburg to have a good time. Sylva, the town outside of the college, is where most kids go to hang out.

    Food and Dining

Dining is pretty good at this school. The lunch ladies are very nice and like to see the kids happy. The food can be a disgusting at times though. And some of the food can get to be very repetitive at times. There is a ZOCA(mexican restaurant), a Panda Express(Chinese food), Freshens( ice cream) and a Burger Studio at the bottom of the cafeteria. At the University Center(U.C) there is a papa johns and a Chic-Fil-A.

    Dorm Life

This is what I did not like the most about this college. There are only 13 dorms. The ones freshman usually get into are Scott, Walker, and Buchanan. Scott is ok, but most people in this dorm are people who like to party. Walker's rooms are very small and cramped, and your are required to either bunk the beds or loft the beds. Buchanan rooms are the nicest, but the only problem is that it is a hike away from the rest of campus. My advice would be to live in Scott or Walker because they are right on campus. Buchanan is really far away and at night it gets pretty creepy with how fast it gets dark and how quiet it is.

    Academic Rigor

This is a decent college. Very good teachers who care about their students success in college and in life. Sometimes the assignments can be challenging, but sometimes they aren't.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the school first, an open house day(on a saturday) would be the best. But it is also good to go on a regular tour when the college is in session. If you live far away from the mountains, you may get homesick easily. Work hard to get in the school. Make friends with classmates. And if you don't like your roommate, then switch. Most teachers are very friendly and approachable. Meet some teachers or try to sit in a class to get the experience.

    In three sentences

This is a great school with some nice people and great teachers. Some students are mean, but you will occur those at any school. I would give this school a rating of 3 out of 5.

    Campus Safety

So far, we've had an extremely inept bank robber and that's been about it. The police are on top of things safety-wise and since WCU isn't near a big city it's actually fairly safe. The most dangerous thing is driving too fast: there have been a few really bad wrecks (with at least one fatality) because students took corners or mountain roads too fast.

    Greek Life

There are several Greek organizations but I don't plan on joining so I wouldn't be the best person to ask.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a TON of clubs and activities going on. Rates for activities such as skiing, sky-diving, and more are cheaper than any other rates I've seen.

Great for these types of students

Outdoorsy-types and those who don't want to live in or around a big city.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is actually a bomb shelter in the basement of the Political Science building from the Cold War era.

    Bang for the buck

WCU is the lowest priced NC college and while it might not have all the amenities that other colleges have, the faculty is exceptional and if you're here to learn and enjoy the mountains you won't be disappointed.

    What to do for fun

Hiking, camping, kayaking, and more outdoor sports. There's a great library to explore! Unique shops in historic downtown Sylva. On weekends there is downtown Asheville which is an experience in itself! There are lots of seasonal festivals in Sylva and Asheville that are a lot of fun to go to. The WNC Mountain State Fair is great!

    Food and Dining

Eh... there's Chik-Fil-A, Starbucks, Einsteins, McAlister's, Panda Express, Burger Studio, Zoca's, and Freshens. Then there are several cafes and convenience stores on campus. The food is decent and there's a good variety but I get tired of restaurant food quickly since I love to cook my own meals. Across the street, there are several good restaurants that offer a change from what's offered on campus but they don't accept CatCash.

    Dorm Life

It's great. Just know what type of dorm life you want and pick your dorm accordingly. Balsam will be more quiet, Scott and Walker will be louder party dorms (depending on the floor you pick.) Talk to your counselor during orientation and ask them about the dorms. More than likely, the counselors are RAs during the semester.

    Academic Rigor

So far everything is hard work but it's easy to get it accomplished if you just stay on top of everything. The fewest hours I've had per semester here are 16 and even with 18 I've only had trouble when I procrastinated.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring an umbrella and rain boots. The weather tends to pour buckets occasionally. Get to know your professors and advisors! They will be great at helping design your college career for you if they know more about what you like. Plus, they're great at getting you helpful things and giving useful advice. You may want to plan on cooking part of the time: there's not a huge variety of food here. (But I'm something of a foodie so I'm picky.)

    In three sentences

Western is people oriented with a focus on helping students become better at what they want to be. The student to professor ratio is great: I've been in one class with more than thirty people so far and that was an elective choir class. The Honors College, Entrepreneurship, and Geology programs are unique to WCU and would be great to investigate.

    Campus Safety

It seems as though there is highway patrol, sheriffs, and campus police everywhere. Personally I've walked around campus at night alone and felt fine. Every once in a while something happens but the University has handled everything very well.

    Greek Life

I have a lot to say on the matter because I am Greek, but I'm not going to make it long. Whether you are a parent or future student reading this you most likely have no interest in Greek Life because of media and the past. I was one of you, I looked the other way and laughed because there was no way I was joining a sorority. My mind changed after meeting and being around a specific fraternity. I joined my sisterhood and never looked back. I have the best friends and support system I could ask for. The self-esteem and leadership skills that are learned here help immensely in the workforce and the bonds you form last a lifetime. All I ask is you keep an open mind.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone, just get involved!

Great for these types of students

    All types.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual no, near and dear to everyone involved yes.

    Bang for the buck

Even after the tuition raise for the state, WCU is still the cheapest in the the state. You get what you pay for, not to mention you rent your text books not buy! (Saves a lot of $)

    What to do for fun

If you have an interest, I'm positive you can find a group that shares it. Whether it be biking, hiking, fitness, philanthropy, art, etc. I believe there is something for everyone.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall is fairly new, it was finished in 2009. Upstairs all you can eat, downstairs Asian, Mexican, burgers, McAlisters, and of course Starbucks. In the University Center we also have Papa Johns, Chick-fil-a, and Einsteins.

    Dorm Life

A dorm is a dorm, but by dorm standards I don't believe Westerns is too bad. Recently there have been new dorms built and some completely remodeled. The freshman dorms are the worst but really that just means they are old. There is also housing for Greek Life on campus.

    Academic Rigor

I am a senior at WCU and through out my years there I have only come across one teacher who wasn't there for the students. The rest are there when you need them, willing to teach if you are willing to learn.

    Tips for prospective students

*Check Facebook for groups named after your class, it's a great way to get to know people and even find a roommate. *Be open-minded, WCU has so much to offer you should try everything at least once. *Go to the football games, the half-time show NEVER disappoints!

    In three sentences

WCU is a great school with a lot of opportunities. It has everything to complete the college experience from Greek Life and Athletics, to personable professors and small classes. Western Carolina is beautiful all year long and perfect for a plethora of outdoor activities.

    Campus Safety

I've always felt safe, but I've heard horror stories. Of course, it's college, so who hasn't?

    Greek Life

Tons of it. Specifically the Sigma Delta Rapists and the Alpha Phi Stoners.

    Clubs and Activities

None! Except for really random ones like the anime club and the karate club. The College Democrats aren't really active, but the College Republicans are.

Great for these types of students

Partiers and people going to college with their cliques.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    I'm not aware of any.

    Bang for the buck

    It's pretty cheap.

    What to do for fun

    Study or drink.

    Food and Dining

Not much different than any other cafeteria. Horrible. Especially for a gluten-free vegan.

    Dorm Life

I'm in the Honors dorm, so I'm not bad off. No one parties here, which is good. However, no one wants to make friends with anyone on their hall, either. Scott and Walker, however, aren't air conditioned, and there are frequent incidents due to partying.

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are kinda hard, but if you take good notes for them, you'll make an A.

    Tips for prospective students

Unless you want to make friends by going over to Scott Hall and partying every night, don't come here.

    In three sentences

The faculty are kind, helpful, and hysterical. The students are either too friendly or not friendly at all. The campus is boring.

Western is incredibly diverse with what they have to offer students. No matter what you're majoring in, you will get an excellent quality education. I myself am going for Musical Theatre. Western is a great school for Performing Arts. With a Broadway caliber stage, Terrence Mann on the faculty along with several other talented faculty members, I'm incredibly excited to begin my degree.

    Tips for prospective students

Just the typical tips: Show up, pay attention, and shoot for the Dean's List. Also try to stay away from drinking as much as you can. Also, do not pirate anything, cheat, or plagiarize. They have strict policies there for every single one. If you must drink, don't be stupid about it.

    Bang for the buck

Though tuition prices have climbed, I'm positive the education and experience will be very much worth it.

    Will enjoy being here

With the jaw-dropping amount of clubs and organizations one can immerse their self in, the overwhelming welcoming attitude of the majority of the people, the incredible school spirit and pride, and beautiful campus and surrounding area, I am very confident I will absolutely love it here.

    Will learn a lot

Every professor has an incredible amount of experience. All classes are small enough for your professor to know you by name so you'll have more of a chance to ask questions and have a better relationship with the professor. If you really pay attention, show up, apply yourself, and take advantage of all of the tutoring and help that is provided on campus, you are pretty much guaranteed to make the Dean's List.

If you like being outdoors and having loose responsibility than WCU is the school for you. It is laid back but they expect you to do the work. They won't hold your hand but they will help you if you just ask.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get into as many organizations as possible. This will help you gain lasting friendships and make the experience much more pleasant. Getting an education through Western without a support system is not ideal, I would know. Talk to the teachers, they are very approachable and love to have conversations with students. Beware of administrators. You will want to stay on your adviser about things and the head of departments. Make sure you get everything in writing!

    Bang for the buck

WCU has one of the lowest tuition rates in NC. If you are an undergrad you do not have to buy your books. The bookstore rents out all of your books to you for about $100 a semester.

    Greek Life

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

    Food and Dining

the food at western is good. the dining could improve it's services by bringing in more diverse foods. there should be more restaurant options made available to students on campus.

    Campus Safety

with many campus security people on call and alarm signals placed sporadically through out campus i have never once felt an once of felt an once of fear. we experience a robbery, where a student was believed to have had a gun, and campus went into lock-down immediately. we were only allowed out as soon as they knew we were in no danger, proof that our security is wonderful.

    Clubs and Activities

there are clubs for almost...anything! martial arts, creative writing, and even comic books. whether it is a hobby or a passion there is a club for any and every student, and on of the greatest club/class/activity is the marching band, it is one of the greatest bands in the nation and a winner of the sudler trophy.

Great for these types of students

western carolina university is great for all types of students. whether you are interested in being amazingly educated by brilliant thinkers or living the college experience, w.c.u. can be the place for you. with tuition costs less than most other colleges and majors offered from business to forensics w.c.u. offeres a wonderful education environment for any student, young or old, who wishes to learn.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

this university is full of tradition that i, as a freshman, am still learning. purple fridays, movies in the university center, humans versus zombies games, and marching band worship are just a few of the traditions all catamounts know of. 'cullowhee beach', which is actually a creek, is one of the warm weather hotspots on campus.

    Bang for the buck

while tuition is never cheap this school has one that is lower than most other non community colleges. with so much fun to be had around campus and such a beautiful landscape w.c.u. really is a jewel hidden away in the mountains. the campus is also highly maintained and always clean and beautiful.

    What to do for fun

while cullowhee is sometimes refereed to as 'cullowhere' w.c.u. still plans an exorbitant amount of activities to try and help students interact with each-other and the environment. camping trips, hikes, skiing, kayaking, races, dance marathons, and even more are all offered and generally student run. and if you want a night on the town the city of asheville is a measly forty-five minutes away.

    Food and Dining

    there are many options for food on campus, but if you want a more healthy meal you may as well buy your own groceries rather than dine on campus. the dining hall can be pricey (especially with the steep prices of a freshman meal plan) and the other options are geared towards fast food. eating healthy is somewhat a challenge at w.c.u. but it is still possible;

    Dorm Life

dorm life is actually quite comfortable. when i first arrived on campus i was worried about small dirty rooms and people i would never get to know. however with all of the activities and wonderful r.a.'s dorm life is much better than i had ever hoped let alone expected.

    Academic Rigor

classes can be hard and challenging but in so many good ways. the faculty truly seems to have a grasp on what they are teaching us as students, and while some classes are harder or easier than others, there is always a challenge to be found in the course list. sometimes however it seems, as i am sure it seems with most colleges, that the professors do not realize you have other responsibilities with other classes.

    Tips for prospective students

know what you want! while you have some time to decide a major, with all of the freshman required courses, it it still highly important that a new student decided what they want from the beginning of their college career. always, always ask whatever question you may have, people are there to help you and are not as intimidating as they seem, and rent all the books you can it will save a large amount of money.

    In three sentences

western carolina university is a beautiful campus nestled in the mountains of western carolina. there are many chances for students to get involved with the university, whether it be educational or extracurricular. western carolina university is a school that truly seems to care about its students.

    Campus Safety

WCU has their own campus police that can respond to an emergency on campus from on campus. There are also police call boxes set in strategic areas around campus so that even if you don't have your phone you can alert the police to your emergency. The campus is also home to its own EMS that can respond quickly to any emergency.

    Clubs and Activities

There are enough clubs that you'll find something you're interested in. WCU has the Leadership Institute, the Honors College Board of Directors, Chemistry Club, anything you can think of there's probably an organization. If there isn't a club you're interested in find a faculty advisor and you can start one. If you aren't interested in joining an organization you can also look into the Service Learning Department on campus. They provide opportunities for any student to get involved on campus and in the local community.

Great for these types of students

Western Carolina is great for any student that enjoys the arts, nature, or enjoys the mountains. I, personally, am drawn to WCU because I grew up in a rural community and I find the seclusion to fit my tastes perfectly. There are enough people that I don't know them all, but not so many that I can't find at least one person I know at any given time. It's also a great place for people that enjoy the arts as there is always an art exhibit on campus. As I mentioned earlier there are also plays that are shown frequently in one of our three theaters on campus. And, of course, WCU is great is for anyone that loves getting outdoors. Base Camp Cullowhee provides everything from tents to kayaks for cheap rental to any student that wants to get outdoors and explore.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a superstition on campus that if you walk beneath the alumni clock tower you won't graduate on time. All I'm saying is I've never walked underneath it. Otherwise it's a pretty normal campus.

    Bang for the buck

Thus far, the campus has provided several great services that makes the tuition worth it. The WaLC is a very useful tool that is included in your tuition. Textbooks are also included, and you can simply rent them from the university book store, which definitely saves money and time. The free concerts and inexpensive activities also even out the tuition costs.

    What to do for fun

The staff at WCU are fully aware that the campus is secluded in its valley and they find plenty for students to do. There is always a movie playing in the theater, it's only $2 a person. (But the movies have already been in theaters for a while, so if you want to see the newest blockbuster make plans to go to the theater in town.) There are also concerts held frequently enough that they're annoying, but not so frequently that they're extra annoying. And for the more sophisticated crowd WCU hosts plays all the time. Just recently the theater majors performed The Drowsy Chaperone. It was wonderfully done. And, of course, the biggest draw of Western Carolina is the mountains. There are plenty of places to hike, canoe, kayak, you name it. Many students travel out to view the waterfalls. There is also a fitness center on campus which has a rockwall. (Bet you thought I was going to suggest running on a treadmill for fun.) The rockwall is tall enough to see the whole campus from the top, if you're that brave. So, in short, there is more than enough to do once you finish your term paper.

    Food and Dining

I love the dining hall. There are plenty of things to choose from on a daily basis and they keep everything fresh. (Your favorite dish will be far enough apart on the calendar that you'll never get bored with it.) They also have late night dining at the dining hall Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Even if you don't think you'd use late night dining right now once you get on campus you'll be in love with it. And if you decide you're not feeling the cafeteria scene anymore there are enough options on campus to keep your tastebuds entertained. McAllister's, Chick-fil-A, and Panda Express are just a few of the options offered to students on campus. Dining off campus is also popular and on your visit to WCU if Speedy's pizza is open go there. (It's close to the paper mill, you can't miss it.)

    Dorm Life

Residential Living at WCU is acceptably helpful. I know many of the RA's and they're great. They are happy to help with any issues you may have and they'll answer any random questions you have but don't know who to talk to. The freshman dorm doesn't have air conditioning but all of the other dorms on campus do. There are laundry machines in the dorms, but they do cost to use. You'll probably meet some of your best friends down your hallway so be friendly and bring a door stop so you can keep your door open.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the major you choose, along with what professors you have. Some are really helpful and don't assign so much work that you can't remember it all. Some of the professors aren't at all helpful and it feels like you're teaching yourself. It's really a matter of how much work you're used to how rigorous it is going to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring an umbrella. (WCU stands for We Carry Umbrellas.) Become friends with your adviser, and don't be afraid to change your schedule if you don't feel comfortable in the classes you are currently enrolled in. Pack your schedule so that you can comfortably drop one or two courses and maintain a full-time student status. Also, put yourself out there and try new things. The university provides so many opportunities for you to get out and adventure, possibly outside of your comfort zone, and you should do it.

    In three sentences

Western is a beautiful place with plenty for the person that loves outdoors and indoors. The Honors Program is amazing and the professors involved in the program are astoundingly dedicated to helping the students, not leading the students. There are so many student led organizations that it is almost impossible not to find what you are looking for in the University, you just have to put yourself out there and look.

    Campus Safety

I never thought I would feel so safe on any campus, but Western not only provides you with the information you need in case an emergency occurs, but they also email you in case something is happening. Last year they sent out emails about a black bear on campus telling everyone not to get near it. So any little thing that occurs, they let you know about it. This morning I checked my email and they said that someone reported shots fired around 2 a.m. last night, and they suspected it was someone hunting, but they are still investigating. There aren't many places you go on campus that there isn't a campus policeman or car close by.

    Bang for the buck

One of the things that I really like about Western, is the dedication the staff has at helping you succeed. As a freshman, you have so many councilors, advisors and mentors to help you, not including the professors. You have an orientation councilor, a mentor for the odds and ends, an academic advisor to help you with classes, and everywhere you turn, someone is willing to help you.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things that you can do for fun here. There are many club and intramural sports, diverse organizations (a lot that I had never heard of before), and extra things for people who aren't interested in either, like movie nights outside on the lawn, fairs, and concerts.

    Food and Dining

There are so many food options here at Western. If you aren't feeling a day at the cafeteria, you can go to Starbucks, McAllisters, Subway, Chick-Fil-A, Papa Johns, Panda Express and so many others! If you can't find good food somewhere here, you aren't looking.

    Dorm Life

I personally do not live in a dorm room; I commute. However, I visit my friends who live in a dorm very often and they love it. I practically live with them sometimes and we all have a great time. At first the dorms do not feel like home at all, but within about a month, they become home.

    Academic Rigor

So far, my classes haven't been too strenuous but have been enough so that I am learning a lot. You aren't so bogged down with homework that you don't have time for anything else, but the load isn't so light that you aren't busy.

    Tips for prospective students

If you would like to come to Western, please realize that you are not here to party. I have known a few people that have already been suspended for doing things they shouldn't. You can have fun here, there are plenty of things to do, but learn responsibility so that when you get here, or to any college, you don't associate college with partying.

    In three sentences

Western is great for getting students involved in clubs, sports and organizations. It is also very supportive of things outside of school life, such as voting, breast cancer awareness and donating blood. Western also has a great staff; every teacher I have had so far has been dedicated to helping you do great in the class, and if for some reason there is a bad teacher, Western is good to replace that teacher with someone who cares.

    What to do for fun

Even though WCU is in the middle of nowhere there are still fun things to do. There are gorgeous places to go hiking and small shops to walk around plus Cherokee and Asheville aren't to far away either!

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria has its good days and bad days. There is a salad bar and cookies readily available everyday.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you would expect when living in a freshman dorm. The dorms are kept clean and are quiet when they need to be but there is no A/C for freshman but when the heat is turned on you better watch out. It will blow you out of there.

    Academic Rigor

The classes at Western range from being extremely rigorous to a more laid back class. It all depends on your major and what classes are required. Even if a class is really hard your teachers are always there to help and if that is not enough there is a tutoring center that is beneficial to everybody and every major.

    Tips for prospective students

For students applying to WCU I would recommend applying early. By applying early you get a head start and you show the school that you are serious about applying and going to college. Like any school make sure to keep your grades up and do not let senioritis take over.

    Campus Safety

General safety around campus is great, even at night while walking to the dorms. There are only about a handful of incidents each year, and none of them are really destructive to the campus life. The campus police don't mess around, they usually always have a few cars on duty, always patrolling around campus and making sure everything is safe for students. All the officers are usually very approachable and are there to help. Whenever the EMT's are called, the campus police are always right behind them.

    Greek Life

From what I have seen, Greek Life is very active. I know several people in fraternities and sororities, and they love every minute of it. They are always doing around something out on the lawns or in the quad and are usually all around campus. They are all very friendly and open, it's just a matter of which one fits you best.

    Clubs and Activities

I have heard that there are a lot of clubs. if you are a very socially active person, then I'm sure that you could find a club that you would be interested in. I see flyers and posters all around campus advertising new clubs or any other clubs that are around campus.

Great for these types of students

I think any kind of student would like it here, and fit in with any crowd. WCU has a large selection of programs that you can choose from, and you can easily find someone with common interest and that are in the same program as you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Parts of the campus are haunted, so it can be a bit scary to walk around real late at night at certain parts of the campus. There is a Green Energy Park that is close by where you can go do things and watch some artists do metal work, or glass blowing. There aren't many unusual things that I have noticed.

    Bang for the buck

My parents handle the finances more than I do. But, so far it has been good for me, seeing as how I am still going there and will hopefully stay there until the end.

    What to do for fun

Usually, there is always something going on around campus. There have been a few concerts this years from a few big names. It's all about knowing the area and knowing where to go to have fun as a broke college student. But, if you don't have a car, it's a bit more difficult to do a lot of fun things unless you have a good group of spontaneous friends.

    Food and Dining

Every school has the dining hall that's a bit less than satisfactory, and in some cases a bit disgusting. But, the food grows on you a bit, and it bothers you less and less. They usually have great and healthy options, always have the salad bar open, and the comfort zone helps with the stress a bit. There are also some great places to eat a few miles away in town, and also just on the side of campus inside the strip mall.

    Dorm Life

As a freshman, the residential living programs revolve everything around introducing people to each other. It's a bit intimidating in the beginning when you don't know anyone, but in the end, you feel that it was worth it.

    Academic Rigor

So far, there have been several challenges. But, that's what college is supposed to be all about, to test your abilities for preparing for the real world. There are going to be easy classes, and hard classes, but you need to go about them with confidence.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking about coming here, be sure to be ready for one of the best and challenging experiences of your life. It has been a great environment for my personal growth, and I have become more social with everything being student related and motivated.

    In three sentences

Being here at WCU has been one of the best experiences of my life so far. I have been able to rise to each challenge they have given me thus far. This is a great place to be in order to reach your goals.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for just about everything. You name it, I bet we have it.

Great for these types of students

    Food and Dining

    Dorm Life

It has its ups and downs, but if you come to campus not knowing anyone it is the best way to meet new people.

    Academic Rigor

My professors so far have been really nice and helpful.

    Tips for prospective students

    In three sentences

It is in the middle of nowhere, but I promise coming to this school could be the best thing possible. Campus Safety

Safety is almost not an issue on campus. Almost because no where is completely safe. But, there are cops there if you ever need them, as well as phones with bright blue lights if you ever feel threatened.

    Bang for the buck

Western isn't nearly as expensive as it looks like it would be. You rent textbooks so you don't spend hundreds of dollars a semester on them. There's an amazing gym, which part of your tuition pays for, tutors are free, as well as the IT department.

    What to do for fun

There is always something happening on campus or in the dorms. If you're bored it's because you aren't trying not to be. If you get involved in something, you'll always have something to do.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall has decent food that you pay for with your meal plan and there are fast food restaurants downstairs from the dining hall, as well as in the UC if you get tired of it.

    Dorm Life

The Freshmen dorms are kind of small, but once you get settled it's hardly noticeable. Other than that they meet all necessary standards.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are as hard as you want them to be. If you show up, pay attention, make an effort at homework and studying, and ask for help if and when you need it, you shouldn't have a problem.

    Tips for prospective students

When considering Western keep in mind that it's relatively secluded from all major cities. Asheville being the closest at an hour away. It's in the mountains so the weather is extremely unpredictable, it will rain for a week straight then the sun will be out for three days and then back to rain. But, despite that, the academics are amazing, the professors are beyond skilled at what they do, and the campus is beautiful.

    In three sentences

Western Carolina is a great university. They offer a multitude of majors and minors, as well concentrations that are all taught by extremely competent professors. WCU isn't the best at most sports but they definitely have spirit.

    Campus Safety

I have yet to hear of anything dangerous happening at Western. And (as a plus to you parents) it is not the biggest party school.

    Clubs and Activities

I think the biggest activity at Western would have to be the band. If you haven't seen them perform, you need to! They are so amazing and i get goosebumps every time i watch them. If music isn't your thing, there are plenty of other activities you could choose from!

Great for these types of students

If you like the outdoors, Western is the place to be for you! There are all sorts of classes based around Natural Resources. Students even take trips to go camping.

    Bang for the buck

Along with being reasonably priced, Western's campus is a beautiful place to live and study. You can look out of your dorm window and see the mountains for miles!

    What to do for fun

Its the mountains! You could find anything to do here...except lie on the beach of course. You could do anything from hiking, to whitewater rafting, to nature walks, zip lining, and so much more.

    Food and Dining

As in high school, you have your basic foods, but there are also other restaurants like Papa Johns, and Panda express.

    Dorm Life

I have visited Western numerous times, and I have seen the dorms. They are not that bad, if not in the honors dorm, be prepared to share bathrooms, as with other colleges.

    Academic Rigor

I guess it depends on what your major is, however no matter how easy I would not try to blow your way through.

    Tips for prospective students

The biggest tip I could give someone, would be to STUDY! It may not be much fun, but it will definitely help out in the long run.

    In three sentences

Western is a beautiful place to go to school, especially if you enjoy the mountains. Worried about the cost? Western is one of the cheapest schools in North Carolina to attend.

    Campus Safety

It seems to be a very safe campus. I haven't really heard of anything bad happening on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and activities to do no matter what types of activities you are in to.

Great for these types of students

This college is right for those not wanting a huge college, enjoys the outdoors, and is okay with the mountains and out door type of things. There is also not a lot of shopping around.

    Bang for the buck

One seems to get what they pay for when going here!

    What to do for fun

There are many things to do for fun such as sporting events, concerts, playing on the lawn or by the fountain during the day, many out door activities such as hiking, and just hanging out with your friends around Starbucks.

    Food and Dining

The food options are getting much better here. They are coming out with better healthier options on campus, and there is also already a wide variety of all types of foods. I don't seem to get tired of the food options here.

    Dorm Life

The honors dorms are really nice, and there isn't much to change about them. They have air conditioning, no community bathrooms, a kitchen, study rooms, and laundry. It is also in the center of campus which is very convenient and pretty at night.

    Academic Rigor

Of course you will get those hard professors, but with time for your studies it shouldn't be much worse than high school classes if not the same rigor.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get involved! There are a lot of rec sports to play, church groups, greek life, and academic teams. Don't just stay in your room because there are so many things to do here.

    In three sentences

It's located in a beautiful campus with lots of outdoor activities everywhere. It's good for anyone who doesn't want a huge campus, but it isn't too tiny. Also, Western has some really great academic majors and opportunities that it offers after graduation.

    Campus Safety

The campus is set in a very safe community that has a very low crime rate. We have had an occasional cell phone theft or assault but it rarely happens. The campus police is always driving around. Maybe could use a little more police after dark when students are walking to their car after a long night of studying. Just helps with making the students feel secure.

    Greek Life

Western Carolina has a big Greek Life. The problem is that is seems very cliquish. They tend to sit together in the cafe, hang out with one another, take the same classes together, join the same clubs. College is about being open minded and engaging in relationships with people that are different from you. This helps you in the real world and dealing with diversity. College is also a time to look within yourself and find out who you are and what you want to do.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs that you can get involved in. Whether it's geared toward your major or simply a hobby there is a club for you. If there isn't one you could always start one! The trouble is finding these clubs and even knowing they exist. You can play a sport, engage in civic activities, enjoy music by your fellow classmates.

Great for these types of students

Students that love the outdoors should come to Western. Students that want like to actively learn and participate in class will enjoy the family feel that is established in the small classroom setting.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a water fountain in the heart of campus where students can run through during the summer days. A lot of students gather around this and hang out during breaks. During the warmer months students lay out on the lawn with blankets and socialize or study. Some students play music which is nice.

    Bang for the buck

Western Carolina is a little less expensive than most schools in North Carolina. I think it's well worth it. The classes are small which is good because you don't feel like just a number. Some of the buildings are older but historic which is cool. They use a rental program for your books which is AWESOME because you don't have to pay a fortune for your books.

    What to do for fun

If you love the outdoors this place is for you! Located in the Great Smoky Mountains there are many activities. Rock climbing, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, skiing, and biking. The town is very small and quiet. The scenery is gorgeous!

    Food and Dining

There needs to be more dining options especially healthy options. The dining areas seem to be in one part of campus. Another dining hall should be set up closer to the library for those that spend hours there. The Starbucks is a lifesaver but I feel there should be another one closer to the library.

    Dorm Life

Some dorms are nicer than the others but those are the ones that are also more expensive. There are a couple of dorm rooms that need to be updated.

    Academic Rigor

The classes I have taken so far push me and make me really think. That's what college is all about. The teachers engage in different teaching techniques that show their passion and their drive.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class. Use your resources like the library, your professors, advisor, tutors. Get involved and join a club within your major or just something that you are interested in. Practice good time management make sure that you study a lot but still allow yourself a day to enjoy friends and the gorgeous mountain scenery

    In three sentences

Western Carolina has a great staff that genuinely cares about your goals. The campus is located in a gorgeous mountain setting. It's a very laid back and small town community.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. There is plenty of lighting and it's just a comfortable atmosphere. But always use the buddy system!

    Greek Life

Western has a very active Greek life on campus. There are several fraternities and sororities to join! They also have their own housing on campus, it is called The Village.

    Clubs and Activities

There is something for everyone! Trust me!

Great for these types of students

Western Carolina is great for the outdoorsy, adventurous student! There are so many outdoor activities to do and many of the clubs offer adventure opportunities!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the start of the first home football game, the Freshman lead the football team out onto the field. Isn't that a great way to start the season?! This traditions brings on the pride of all new catamounts and I think it's an incredible idea!

    Bang for the buck

One of the best programs at Western Carolina is the book rental system. The fee, which is $108, is built into your tuition and it basically means that you don't pay for your books. You stop by the library, hand over your schedule and they do the rest. You can write and highlight in the books to your hearts desire and after a semester of using them, you simply return them. It really is a great deal!

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of outdoor activities to do for fun! Some examples would be hiking, biking riding through trails, skiing and snow tubing! There are also a lot of fun things to do with the intramural sports, such as ultimate frisby!

    Food and Dining

Food is plentiful at the Courtyard dining! The cafeteria has many food choices available. In the downstairs portion you can find Panda Express, Freshens, Starbucks, Papa Johns and many other chain restaurants. Upstairs is the dining hall that has more of a buffet style selection. The food is fantastic! They have home style cooking, an oriental selection, an awesome salad bar, and many other great choices.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is very exciting. Some of the dorms may lack space, but none of the dorms lack social interaction. Most of the dorms on campus have Living Learning Communities (LLCS), which are groups of people who live together and take the same classes. It is a cool way to get to know people and it you find friends easily.

    Academic Rigor

I feel like Western Carolina is a hidden treasure in the mountains. The professors are friendly and helpful. They also have a great tutor program in the library that offers help to students writing essays.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students, I would recommend visiting campus during the school year while school is in session. You need to see the liveliness of the campus! It also would be helpful to schedule a tour so you could enter buildings and see what the learning community looks like. Another tip would be to bring an umbrella or a rain jacket because it could rain at any given moment!

    In three sentences

Western Carolina has a beautiful campus that is full of student activity. The atmosphere on campus is very friendly and welcoming. The mountain view is spectacular and it provides a lot of outdoor activities!

    Campus Safety

The campus police are pretty much on their toes and the dorms all have a hard-to-breach security system. On the other hand, you are not allowed to have pepper spray on this campus. Also, the cattran (on campus bus system) is supposed to run every 15 minutes, but you can bet it will be closer to every 45 minutes. Sometimes the cattran will also skip stops, so they never even show up. So be prepared to walk alone in the dark at times.

    Greek Life

I do not know much about Greek life. I know that there are a decent number of people involved in Greek life and that there is a Christian Sorority that I like, but I do not know much else about it.

    Clubs and Activities

SOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY. Seriously, there are too many to even type. I personally volunteered for Campus Church, but I know there are so many clubs based on the extensive list on orgsync.

Great for these types of students

    outdoorsy, hard-working, accepting, open-minded

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I cannot think of anything off the top of my head.

    Bang for the buck

I think this place is absolutely worth the money. Everyone is very involved and you get a fantastic education for a rather low price when compared to other colleges.

    What to do for fun

Hiking, fishing, swimming, snowboarding, skiing, etc. Mostly outdoorsy-type things to do, but that all depends on you!

    Food and Dining

They have food. It is sustenance. It is, for the most part, not very tasty, but it will get you by. They do have a few decent food joints on the campus and nearby, but the dining hall is pretty much just food to survive.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are decent. It's a little hard to get work done because it gets really loud sometimes, but they are livable. Some of the dorms do not have air conditioning, though. But you can pretty much count on it to be a safe place because of the nice security system.

    Academic Rigor

I would say you really do have to put forth some effort, as with most colleges, but as long as you try, you can obtain a passing grade with no problem. The professors are ALWAYS willing to help thanks to the small average class size.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a school with a huge nightlife, this is not the school for you; however, if you do love nature and exploring, there is plenty of that to go around. Also, every Freshman has to take a freshman seminar course; while this course is a terrible waste of time and money, it is required and is an easy A. The people here are also incredibly nice and accepting. Of course, there are always some people that aren't, but for the most part everyone is incredibly friendly and we all get along well.

    In three sentences

The campus is absolutely beautiful and it is tucked away from the night life just enough for you to really focus. The programs here are of high quality. I highly recommend this college for serious students.

The question isn't what you can do for fun, it's what you can't do for fun.

    Food and Dining

The food is always excellent. While it may not be the home cooking you're used to at home, it's still pretty fantastic. 5 stars.

    Dorm Life

You have multiple options of dorms, and they are all quite amazing. You just can't choose wrong when it comes to dorms.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is amazing. You will meet so many new people and make lots of friends. Dorm Life

Fill out the dorm sheet honestly. Living with someone that you would rather not is a hassle.

    Academic Rigor

Be prepared to work hard and study. This is not high school.

    Tips for prospective students

WCU stands for we carry umbrellas. Freshman bring sneakers and be prepared to walk everywhere. Try to get into the Academic Success Program, this opportunity helped me get used to being away from home, family and friends. This 6 week program is AMAZING!

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is amazing. There are call boxes everywhere on campus where you can call the campus police if you feel unsafe. There are also cat trans that drive around campus till 2:00 am and will drop you off anywhere on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

LOTS! I am a member of a few including, fencing, kendo, and ballroom dancing.

You have to run through the fountain before you graduate. It is a must!

    What to do for fun

There are many hiking trails nearby and most lead to waterfalls. There are also plenty of volunteer opportunities, but if you want to something inside you will have to the next town over which is only 10-20 minutes away because Cullowhee only has walmart and a bunch of fast food places.

    Food and Dining

The dining is pretty good. There is a buffet style meal upstairs and plenty of on campus diners and restaurants to try.

    Dorm Life

The rooms are not too big, but they are cozy. You get the space you need and a little to spare (depending on how much you bring). They can get a little noisy, but it is college so, it is to be expected.

    Academic Rigor

All of the professors are very helpful and understanding when you need help and they are more than happy to give it. Take advantage of every extra credit opportunity even if you are doing well. It can only make you look better.

    Tips for prospective students

USE THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO YOU!!!! They are there for you cost free, including free tutoring and people to read and edit your papers before you submit them.

    In three sentences

I absolutely love this university. There are so many opportunities given to you to help you excel and the professors are more than happy to help you do better if you are struggling. The campus is not very big which makes it so much easier to get connected with people and get involved.

There are multiple places throughout campus that include a police call button, and crimes do not happen often. The police and ambulance workers are always on top of things. Make sure to carry pepper spray just in case!

    Greek Life

I am not involved in Greek life, but it seems to be pretty cool. Most people who are involved in it live in a section on campus called The Village. I heard the dues for Greek life are not too bad, so if you are interested in it, go for it!

    Clubs and Activities

Clubs range from those who like anime to those who enjoy doing community service.

Great for these types of students

Introverts, extroverts, hard workers, those wanting a career in education (great program, I've heard), fun-lovers, and those wanting an adventure

WCU has two gyms, a psychological and medical center, a cat tran (like a bus, but smaller and awesome), a fountain in the center of campus (called the Catafount, where a lot of events and fun takes place), beautiful theaters, buildings, churches, etc. WCU is awesome! Disclaimer: College life is not similar to what you may see in movies.

    What to do for fun

Throughout the semester, there are movie showings, concerts, plays, and various events. There are also many TVs at WCU if you just want to relax watch a show. If you want to go off campus, there are quite a few restaurants and stores to go shopping at. There's always something to do at WCU.

    Food and Dining

Dining is awesome at WCU. You can eat/dine at the following: Chick-fil-a, Einstein Bros. Bagels, from convenience stores, Papa John's, Starbucks, Panda Express, Zoca, Burger Studio, Java City, Freshens and the upstairs dining hall. The variety is great, as is the food.

    Dorm Life

It can be difficult if you are assigned to live with someone, especially if you do not know them. Nevertheless, dorm life is amazing. You will meet new, usually friendly people, the RAs are kind and caring, and you will become comfortable in your new room, trust me. There are also studies throughout the residence halls so you can study if you don't want to in your room. Rooms are decent sized, but don't overpack.

    Academic Rigor

Make sure to attend class, take notes, and pay attention. Yes, you will hear this everywhere, but it's true. You wanna understand something? Go to class. Ask the professor. Read the book! Seriously, this will help. Classes are as hard as you make them. Just try your best and do your work.

    Tips for prospective students

1.) Bring an umbrella, jackets for all occasions (snow, rain, wind, etc.), and rain boots/shoes. 2.) Check the weather often and prepare for it. 3.) Get a backpack

    In three sentences

Western Carolina University is the place to go--whether you are an introvert or an extravert, you will fit right in. Campus Safety

Campus safety is very important at Western Carolina. Student Government and Administration committees focus on aspects of student safety year-round. Campus police are available for contact by students in the event of emergency or non-emergency. If you feel unsafe walking to your dorm or car after a long night at the library, campus police will pick you up or walk you to where you need to be. Reports of suspicious or dangerous activities are emailed to all students to maintain a safe campus environment.

    Greek Life

WCU has 23 Fraternities and Sororities that any student with at least 15 credit hours are eligible to join.

    Clubs and Activities

WCU offers about 232 student organizations and clubs on campus. With clubs ranging from Student Government to Gaming Clubs, Western offers something for every personality. Clubs are a great way to get involved on campus and build your resume.

Great for these types of students

WCU is perfect for involved students who enjoy being outdoors and don't mind a bit of cold weather in the winter.

    Bang for the buck

At a little more than $12,000 per year, you couldn't ask for a much better college experience. Textbook rental costs are already included in your tuition along with tutoring for nearly every subject. Students have free access to any home athletic events and the campus recreation center and pool. The on-campus theater costs only $2 per student and offers free popcorn along with recently released motion pictures.

    What to do for fun

Although the campus is located in the mountains, about an hour away from any major city, there is always something to get involved with around campus. Base Camp Cullowhee offers a variety of outdoor adventures for students including kayaking, sky diving, mountain climbing and many more. Popular artists such as Sean Kingston, Relient K and Kacey Musgraves hold concerts on campus a couple times each year. A few games of Humans Vs. Zombies are played on campus throughout each semester. Service and volunteer opportunities are also frequent.

    Food and Dining

Cafeteria food at Western leaves something to be desired at times. It seems that the only time food is truly 'good' is when the campus is expecting visitors such as prospective students. Luckily the school offers a variety of other food options to break up the monotony of cafeteria food. These locations include Panda Express, Freshens, Zoca, Burger Studio, Starbucks, Chic-fil-a, Papa Johns, Einstein's Bagels and many more.

    Dorm Life

Learning to share your room, bathroom, study and kitchen with a number of other people is a challenge that comes with living on campus. Resident Assistants make this transition as painless as possible by helping you adjust and get to know your fellow residents through a number of activities and events in each resident hall.

    Academic Rigor

Throughout high school, I was deeply involved in extracurricular activities and I excelled in Honors and AP courses. After graduation, I assumed that I would be well prepared for the rigors of college academics. I soon discovered that I was very incorrect in that assumption. Depending on your major and the number of credit hours you decide to take, academics at WCU can be very challenging for many students. I have found that it takes twice the amount of studying and dedication to do well in my college course work.

    Tips for prospective students

You shouldn't attend WCU without expecting to walk...a lot. Although the school offers a free, campus-wide shuttle service, the one-way route lacks convenience and isn't always the quickest solution. Involvement on campus and in the local community is very important at Western. You don't want to be the student that spends every non-class hour in their room watching Netflix or playing video games. Get out and get involved.

    In three sentences

Western Carolina University is perfect for students seeking a small town environment. The location, nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina, is nothing less than beautiful and the majority of faculty and students are very kind. Attending Western Carolina is very rewarding and one of the best decisions I have made.

The campus police are always alert and on top of their game! If anything ever happens, you will get an email sent to your student account letting you know what activity happened and how to stay safe.

    Greek Life

There are different types of greek life, so if you're interested you'll be sure to find one that fits you. There are even music sororities and fraternities on campus. Every semester there is a recruitment event so you can learn about the different organizations, and find out which one fits you.

    Clubs and Activities

So many clubs! You can learn about them online or from any of the programs they host to give your their information and get you involved.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who enjoy a smaller town feel, and are okay with being creative to have fun.

Valley bally whoo is put on at the beginning of every semester. It consists of a ton of different vendors giving you information and a ton of free stuff. These range from Greek organizations, clubs on campus, restaurants around town, and churches. It's a lot of fun to walk around because everyone around campus comes out and gets involved.

    Bang for the buck

The sponsored programs means you can pay a little bit of money but have a lot of fun!

    What to do for fun

There's always something going on on campus that's sponsored by one of the organizations here. Free concerts are sponsored, and a lot of great groups are brought here every year. There are movies for two dollars played on the weekends, with cheap popcorn and snacks. Sporting events are not expensive and a lot of fun to go to, especially with friends. I'm in the band, so I absolutely vouch for joining Pride of the Mountains, because we really become a family and have a great experience every year. Other than that, the beautiful mountains surrounding us are such a joy to go exploring! There are tons of hiking trails ranging in length and difficulty.

    Food and Dining

There are lots of options. The upstairs dining hall is like a buffet and serve something different every day-that's where you get your variety. There is a place to get burgers, mexican, asian, or even Chic-fil-a. I never get sick of the food here, because there's a lot to choose from.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms especially are a lot of fun. Everyone leaves their doors open and the halls really connect with each other. It feels like a great big community. Once you move into an upperclassmen dorm, it's not always as social but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. The RA's set up fun programs to get everyone connected, like movies and free pizza or arts and crafts. Of course, the quiet hours ensure you can get all your work done at night.

    Academic Rigor

There is a range in the difficulty of classes, but the good part is professors are always willing to help you. They all have office hours you can attend to get help, or you can set up individual appointment. I've done this plenty of times, to ask for help on a paper or just to get clarification on a lecture. The smaller classes makes it really easy to connect with professors

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get involved with something on campus. That can be a club, a sports team, a club team, or the marching band. Because we're in a small town, getting involved will make your experience much more enjoyable. The people and activities here are really great, you just have to make an effort to get yourself exposed to everything that's going on.

    In three sentences

WCU is very in tune with nature and helping the environment. Students here are easy to get along with because they are diverse. The smaller classes makes it much easier to get along with your professors and to get help when it's necessary.

The police here do not mess around, they are easy to get a long with most of the time, but don't take that for laziness. They are always ready to move when they are called. There are several emergency stations around campus that can be used to notify authorities or emergency personnel.

    Greek Life

There are plenty of fraternities and sororities on campus, they have their own section of campus called The Village where you can see the majority of their dorm houses. They are always looking for new members to join and have frequent charity events and donations to help with multiple organizations.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs, all of which offer a different variety and social aspect of campus. You have the Kendo and fencing club for those who want to practice the art of sword play, SGA's that help you get involved with campus life, and Western Carolina has the only Comic Book Club in North Carolina.

Great for these types of students

If you like to go hiking or are interested in the art and theater types of majors, you can't go wrong with Western Carolina University.

    Bang for the buck

The school is well worth it, since it is one of the cheapest schools to pay for that offers a decent education.

    What to do for fun

Multiple hiking trails in the area, campus recreation center or gym which is open everyday of the week and plenty of groups and organizations that do stuff.

    Food and Dining

Foods pretty good on most days, there's your usual cafeteria with several stations downstairs including Hispanic food, a burger station and Chinese food. Plus there is a crepe station that serves smoothies and ice cream. Then you have your convenient stores that serve sandwiches and the like.

    Dorm Life

The dorms life can get a little noisy and it might take some getting used to, but it's easy to meet people.

    Academic Rigor

The teachers push you to do your best in your academics. They are always willing to help and are amazing to get along with. The staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable in their fields, there are also multiple tutor groups that can help with pretty much any subject that you have questions on.

    Tips for prospective students

It's relatively easy to make friends, there is always stuff going on and many areas to explore.

    Campus Safety

There is not a part of campus, that you will not feel safe at. If your walking around at night, there is call boxes everywhere in case of an emergency. The officers here really care about the students and always send out emails and warnings. There is also patrol until two am on the weekends, to make sure students aren't doing anything bad.

    Greek Life

I am not part of Greek Life, so I don't have as much to say as something who does. My best friend is part of Greek Life here and she loves it. She says that she would not of been able to make friends if she didn't, because she has a hard time making friends. The Greek Life on campus is great and they do a lot to help the community and are always involved in something. There is a fraternity off campus, called Pike. People say not to go to there house, because they are womanizers and have a bad reputation.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over one hundred clubs to choose from. There is everything from sports clubs to clubs based on your major. A lot of clubs do things outside, and new organizations are always coming about.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for the outdoorsy types, if you love college sports and plan on joining a team. This is not a school for someone who is accustomed to living in the city and having a mall five minutes away. This is a great school for someone majoring in something health related. There is a new health building, and it is incredible! This school is also perfect for couples because it is not a huge party school. If your a couple, you can get your own apartment off of campus and still be able to walk. People will respect that you are a couple, and not try to steal your boyfriend or girlfriend from you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Do not walk under the tower located in the center of campus. They say if you do, then you will not graduate. Also, there are many traditional school songs sung at school events. There are a lot of more traditions, but you will learn those when you get here!

    Bang for the buck

This is the best school in North Carolina! Your tuition will not be to expensive and your class sizes will be small. You will have the best experience of your life and it may challenge you to come out of your comfort level.

    What to do for fun

I will tell you the truth and you may either love it or decide that this school is not for you. Personally, I love Western and I wouldn't want to attend college anywhere else. Western Carolina University, is located in Cullowhee. There is nothing in college except for the college, a gas station, a bar, and apartments. We had a few restaurants off campus, but they were burnt down this year unfortunately due to a kitchen fire. They are working on rebuilding the restaurants, and they will be ready by 2016. Outside of Cullowhee, is this town called Sylva. There is a lot of places to eat in town but mostly fast food restaurants. You will find a Walmart, banks, Ingles, Food lion, a bowling alley, a small movie theatre, and small shops. Downtown is kind of fun, if you want to spend the day walking around, going to a coffee shop, and just relaxing. So the question is what to do for fun. You have to make great friends, this will come easy because the school is small. You'll probably go to many bon-fires with your friends, off of campus. You may spend your night by a fire, laying on a hammock, and grilling out. You'll go hiking, and when I say hiking I mean vigorous hiking. A lot of the trails are for experienced people but there is also a lot of easy ones. There is a total of seven near by waterfalls that you can find, and go on an adventure while you are there. You'll go to college sporting events and show your catamount pride. Our football team may not be the best, but were pretty much great at every other sport. You'll probably spend a lot of time looking at each other figuring out what to do. Small parties are more popular here than huge parties. If your over 21, you will probably go to the bar a lot. If your under 21, you better be careful and not get caught under age drinking! There are many parties, but you will figure out which ones are safe and which ones are not. A lot of people join Greek Life to make friends and have stuff to do. You don't have to join Greek Life in order to be involved in school, but if you have a hard time making friends I would do it. You'll also probably visit places like Cherokee (15 min away) and Gatlinburg (45 min away).

    Food and Dining

There is a lot to choose from on campus! There is a chickfila, papa johns, a small sushi place that has it prepackaged. There is also a smoothie place, a burger joint, panda express, Einstiens bagel shop, McCalisters. The upstairs dining hall is the best. This is a buffet style dining hall and you will really get your moneys worth. You can eat as much as you want, for a low cost. They are usually always open and also stay open for late night dining on the weekends.

    Dorm Life

I consider the dorm life to be pretty good! There are many dorms just for freshman but most freshman spend their first year in Scott dorm. This dorm does not have AC but it does have a huge fan on the window. This really isn't an issue unless you take summer classes, then you may get hot. Overall, the dorms are small but you have many options. In most dorms, you can choose to have a suite style dorm (this means you only share a bathroom and get your own room!) or you have the option of bunking with someone. Again, the rooms are small so if I were you, I would get a room to yourself. Some of dorms are loud, depending where on campus they are located. The freshman dorms are the loudest, especially on the weekends. A lot of the freshman, go crazy there first year, and overdose in their dorms. Don't be surprised if you see EMS outside your window. Get into the honors college, and stay in the Blue Ridge dorm (I believe that is what it is called). If you do this, its all studious people who actually care about school and are super quiet.

    Academic Rigor

This really depends on your major and what you consider hard. Your teachers will have very high standards, that they expect you to meet! Your teachers will not joke about attendance policies and will take it quite seriously. Example, miss three days of class and this is an automatic B (again this depends on your major). I think the classes seem easier because your in a small class. Your teacher has time to speak with you directly in class and answer all of your questions. Your teachers are also always available during office hours and have time to meet with you everyday because they don't have to worry about 3,000 students a day. Take your work seriously though because you can get a high enough GPA and get into the honors college. Lastly, do plan on writing many papers, and spending your evenings in the library. But its okay, there is a Java City to keep you motivated and moving!

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going to attend Western Carolina University, then you need to get involved in clubs! There are so many clubs to choose from and you will make friends quickly. Also, do not spend a lot of money on winter gear. Prior to coming to Western Carolina University, my mother spend so much money on winter coats, boots, etc. The winters here are mild and you will only have snow sometimes and the roads will always be cleared. Live on campus your first year, you may hate the freshman college dorms because there is not AC but you will live. You will make life long friends in Scott dorm and become close to great people. Also, eat upstairs in the dining hall! Students tend to not want to eat up here because ordering panda express, or papa johns is easier. At the dining hall, you can eat as much as you would like, and you get your moneys worth. Lastly, if you are a freshman, leave your car at home! There is absolutely terrible parking at western. You probably wont even use your car here, unless you are taking a trip to Walmart. Your friends will most likely have a car and you can car pool.

    In three sentences

Western Carolina University, the best underrated college in North Carolina. Wake up to beautiful scenery, and walk to class, where your class sizes will be small, you will make the best friends, and enjoy studying by the tower. Western Carolina University is your school, if you enjoy the outdoors, want to be taught by teachers who have PHDS, in a class setting of thirty or less, and you are okay with not living in a city.

The classrooms size from a teacher to student ratio is very small and this is such a tremendous benefit because you can truly have discussions with your professor and they get to know you as a student where they can guide you through the class. This is a good environment versus only being a number in a large class

    What to do for fun

There are a lot of activities on campus such as music, plays, intramurals, games, contests and of course football, basketball, baseball and track events plus other school athletic activities. There are opportunities to go hiking, skiing, rafting and other off campus activities for fun.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall has 6 or 7 different stations serving a variety of food and there are snack areas through campus as well. The process is very easy based off of the food plan you choose and the food is very good. There are microwaves and stoves in specified areas in the dorms if you'd like to make your own with the fast food places just down the road.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is a good experience and you have opportunities to meet a lot of new people. The dorms have everything you need such as kitchen areas, lounge areas, laundry and snack areas and study areas. Information is posted throughout and you learn to be friends with your roomate. There are resident assistants that live in the dorms to answer any questions and resolve any problems that may occur. The Catcam van stops near each dorm to take you to your classes

    Academic Rigor

You will be able to work with an academic counselor that will assist you with your class schedule. They try to spread things out so you will have time in between classes to do homework, eat, or rest. If you stay on top of your assignments and have a schedule where your classes are varied throughout the week, it is easy to maintain a feasible class and study schedule

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit the campus and spend time walking around and speaking with both students and instructors. After you have applied, keep checking the website in order to meet your requirements and deadlines and the process is very simple and easy. Look at the different dorms and check out the cafeteria, book store, and attend some of the sporting events - they are a lot of fun. There are a lot of fast food places down the road as well as a WalMart, Lowes, and grocery stores for convenience.

Campus police are quick to respond to disturbances and understanding in working with students. They always have two at the very least patrolling the interior of the campus, lunchrooms, and dorm exteriors.

    Bang for the buck

I absolutely love the cost of this college. It is not much more than the cost of the community college I just graduated from. That is, if you are not staying on campus. The price is fair and they do what they can to make sure you can pay for tuition.
