    Great for these types of students

    Self motivators, highly organized, able to find information and research without becoming flustered. BTW my degree in Health Care Informatics is accepted not only nationally but internationally this to me is very important. Best of luck in you endeavors in college.
    Tips for prospective students

    Follow what you want to do not what everyone else thinks you should do. You are the one that will be doing this type of work. If your not ready for college don't do it! It will at first break someones heart but not their wallet. Go when you realize how much you want this for your future. It will make a huge different in how you approach learning.

    In this economy I can tell you after I received my AA in business I did a better job researching online schools for my BS Degree. I spent a total of 60 hours researching school and had the CEO of the company I work for look over the number before I even considered applying for WGU! WGU is a non-profit university you pay a fixed amount for 6 months and you can take as many class as you can pass in 6 months. You don't have to do that wait for you partner to finish there part of the report stuff!! You are accountable for your work and your grade of your own effort. Get in and out as quickly as you can it is all on you and your abilities.

    Yes very much so! The mentors are great they don't leave you in the lurch wondering how to go about starting classes. The orientation is very easy to understand and you can e-mail or call toll free all the time. My mentor Mike calls me once a week to see that I am on track with my goals. He helps me with classes that I have struggles with and cheers me on when I zoom through others.
    Am learning a lot

    The great thing about this type of learning is that you go at your own pace. I am a detail orietnted person that can stay focused on a topic easier in this format. If I were to be sitting in a classroom my mind would be wondering around thing of the other tasks I could be accomplishing while I was working on my assignments. This method offers me the ease of running the dishwasher, the laundry and all those other neat things while I am working on my assignments. I get to slice and dice my hours the way I need to.

    Great for students wanting to pursue an online education and obtain a teaching, business or IT degree.
    Tips for prospective students

    If you are interested in a Business, Teaching, or IT degree check out the programs with WGU. WGU is based out of Utah, but they have a new campus (opened just last year 2010) in Indiana. Students wanting to start the program must apply by the 15th of the month to start the 1st of the next month.
    Bang for the buck

    I had my Associates degree from another school when I decided to look into WGU. Many of my credits transferred and the tuition is so much more inexpensive than most other colleges (my research was done mostly with online programs) Financial Aid is available through WGU.
    Am enjoying being here

    The resources available to the students is invaluable, and there are so many it is almost overwhelming, but in a good way.
    Am learning a lot

    Like most online programs the IT-Database program is very intensive and accelerated. But the program is awesome. I am receiving industry certifications from organizations such as CIW and CompTIA. This is the part that really cinched it for me (that and the inexpensive tuition costs)

    wgu is a competency based school with wonderful learning resources. if you are competent in a subject already you don't have to re-learn it, just take the test and if you pass it, you pass the class.

    call and talk with the course mentors ifyou have any questions or problems. they will explain it till you get it!

    awesome on-line school for those who have family, jobs or require flexibility. mentors are very supportive and always available. you must be self motivated to succeed at on-line learning though.

    campus is in the safety of my home. no walking on dark streets, no parking issues. co-ed housing; i love my roommate and we are very compatible for 22 years!

    i am a non-traditional student returning 30 years after high school graduation. i am working a 40 hour per week job and have no difficulty meeting my education deadlines, tasks or testing.

    the location of my campus is any where i want and find time to study that has a wifi connection.

    in the last year i have completed over two years of academic studies. i do not have to wait on instructors to slug through knowledge i have already acquired and do not have to race to keep up if it is new material. i have taken state certifications and passed on the first attempt. while waiting for the assessments to start, many of the students from regular colleges were there to retake the test as they had not passed it the first time.
    What to do for fun

    for fun, i sit in my recliner to study. i enjoy this experience far greater than any regular college i have attended. no travel for night classes.

    i personnally cater food for my family 7 days per week. food is home cooked and just as ordered 24-7.

    dorm life is great. accommodations are just like home!

    i have found the assignments and assessments a challenge and it is a true measure of the knowledge you should be learning.

    be a self-starter and committed to working for your degree. be willing and able to study on your own. use the resources available to you.

    wgu receives top ratings for online students pursuing a bachelor degree in special education and have found it exhilarating and at times a challenge. i currently work 40 hours per week and find it fits my schedule and has been well worth the time and effort.

    TIME had it right: This is the best [and cheapest] online university that you never heard of. One year of school with Western Governors University will cost me less than one year in-state with another school I went to here in New Jersey!

    Between my awesome counselor and everyone else who is really helpful, I'm very certain that I will enjoy my time with WGU.

    I've been accepted to the university and am definitely looking forward to the Interdisciplinary Studies program! I'll be able to accelerate through what I already know so that I can spend the majority of my time learning and honing what I don't.

    I completed 40 credit hours in 6 months!! My background allowed me to accelerate through the classes that I already had knowledge in. I would recommend this school to anyone. Most classes do not require books, they are all online and provided. No matter how many classes you take the cost never goes up.

    The mentor based approach is very helpful. I can always email my mentor and I usually hear back within a few hours, if not less...even on the weekends.

    The objective tests and work assignments are relative to what you are trying to learn.

    Not-for-profit...need I say more? Under $3000 per 6- month term for undergrads, plus financial aid available including scholarships. Plus the more time you invest in completing the courses, the more courses you can complete and earn more than the minimum 12 cu's which will save you even more money!!!

    Some of the most challenging programs that will prepare you for the real world! Not very traditional, but will make sure you know the subject instead of just testing your ability to memorize.

    Be prepared to study hard and learn a lot! Don't be fooled because it is an online university...this school will challenge you better than some brick and mortar schools! Do not be afraid to ask for help. The course mentors are there to help as well as the student mentors. Pay attention to the posts in the community board as they have a lot of helpful information. Try to attend webinars and do not procrastinate!

    I can take as many classes as I want for one price in a six month period! In my first month I have finished the entire first terms requirements!! I love this as my family has struggled since my husband was injured at work four years ago. Low tuition and e-textbooks make this a wonderfully cost effective choice!

    I have loved working with the mentors! They are quick to respond to my questions and give me guidance. The staff that I have had contact with has all been quite knowledgable.

    I am excited to continue my education. I love that WGU is competency based education. As a business owner, there are many areas I am quite familiar with and don't need further instruction in. I can demonstrate my knowledge and move on to the next area of study.

    Excellent tuition rates and opportunities to save money by completing more classes in one semester.

    The work requires reading and lot's of independent study time. The rigor is about a level 4 out of 5 (with 5 being very rigorous).
    Tips for prospective students

    Always ask if you need assistance. Each course provides mentors with reasonable availability (mon-sat) and they are very helpful. Be determined to get things done on your own, don't wait to work, read ahead and complete courses (this will save you money because WGU allows you to complete as many classes as you want in a semester as long as they are passed).

    WGU online is a great school if you are a student that prefers to work at their own pace, yet if you desire a group setting and a lot of collaboration it may not be a place for you. WGU allows students to work at their own pace for the most part and provides needed assistance when requested.

    Online learning is a commitment to yourself to stick to your schedule w/o a classroom environment. So, no matter what shift you may work, or what you have to work around, it is convenient.

    Knowing the price of a good education is astronomical these days, WGU makes it very affordable. One flat rate for a semester, regardless of how many classes you take. Naturally, acceleration is key to graduating faster and cheaper and they help every step of the way.

    chat with all the other students online on facebook & twitter. Some may be local and you could do a face to face.

    Online... food & dining on me.. but I happen to be a good cook! LOL

    You study at your own pace, but you are not alone. Testing is online or at a testing center (such as Pearson Vue). I was sent a webcam for testing online. It is proctored remotely with the webcam! Certain classes may need a more formal setting and Pearson Vue makes sure you are so you say you are! But, really the flexibility was a huge selling point for me.. and if you have the opportunity to accelerate during a term and add a class... it's at no additional charge!
    Tips for prospective students

    The initial week or so is crazy. Try to get a good feel for the website and ask your mentor a lot of questions. There are also mentors specifically for your field of study or class. They are on facebook & twitter for additional sources of communication & help.

    Study at your own pace, accelerate if you want, online with loads of online resources. No specific time constraints for classes - go by your own schedule. Online tools keep you on track toward your goals. Weekly calls with your mentor to answer questions and guide you on your way.

    A competency based program and grading can sometimes take a couple of days to get a grading response to papers. A proctored exams give results within 10 minutes of exams.

    My personal tips for prospective students are as follows: 1. Please be dedicated to online classes. They are not easy and APA format essays are a must so please be prepared. 2. Be honest with the goals you set with your instructors and mentor. They are there to help you. They may not tell you the answers to the proctered exams but they will give you tips to aid one in passing. 3. Have fun and enjoy your classes and make friends with your fellow students through the communities.

    I am a current graduate student at Western Governors University pursuing a Masters of Science degree in nursing. My personal experience has been great and while it has not been a easy road, it has been very rewarding. In my opinion, Western Governors University is a great school and it takes a dedicated student to pursue a full online colleg.

    Definitely can be a bang for the buck, you can fast track through your term and complete more credits than the required 12 and decrease your cost per credit.

    This is a challenging program that requires hard work. Since this is self-paced you need to make sure to put the time into your course work consistently. There are two types of courses, ones with objective assessments and ones with performance assessments.

    Make sure you are a person who is self motivated. Work with your mentor, they are a great resource. Also contact your course mentor when you are stuck, they are awesome!

    I have found some classes difficult. WGU gave me the resources to learn and PASS each course. The courses are also competency based so if you know the information then you can skip right to the test!

    Great for those who are older than the traditional student. You may work full time, part time or not at all, it's basically about what you want. To succeed in anything, you have to want to.

    This school is great for students that are willing to work hard and want to get their degree. It is not for those who want the college experience.

    Roughly 2800 dollars per six month term even if you only complete the minimum of 12 hours for ontime progress that is only 250 a credit hour. And you can accomplish more than that if you set your mind to it.

    No dorms, completely online learning. So, for me I like living in my own space.

    The tests can be difficult and there are no study guides other than the syllabus. The graders for assignments have been fair but do not always offer much feedback about errors.

    Know what you are getting into and make sure you take advantage of your student mentor. They are there to help you.

    Instead of having a guidance conselor you see maybe once a term, you get a mentor who really becomes a not only a role model and a guide but a friend as well, they make you feel really comfortable, and care about you! Another great thing is that if you are in a course and you just don't like your professor, Western Governor's has 3-5 other teachers you can choose from! You can im your teachers, call them, or if you feel you are good on your own you don't need to talk to them at all (but they are all really nice and helpful!) Also, you don't have to spend a whole semester on 1 class, you can do a whole class in as little as 1 week(depending on how well you master the material) LOVE LOVE THIS SCHOOL!

Keeping in constant contact with your mentor and letting him/her know when you are struggling is esential; as there are ways they can help. The mentors will be essential in your learning here at WGU.     i am so impressed with the tuition costs at western governors university. i am a husband and father of five young children. changing careers is a difficult thing to do especially without a degree. returning to school could be a huge financial burden, but the small tuition at wgu is making it possible for me to return to school and receive my degree.

    There's an honor society for students in the Ed program - KDP. I joined, and there are two times a year when they allow applications.

    No sports. No clubs. There are several student-led groups on facebook. However, when you enroll, you get a student success kit. It has a giant coffee mug, a t-shirt, a picture frame, a giant box of sticky notes and an excellent pen. Also, at the end of the first term, they sent a flash drive as a gift. There is no additional cost for text books (either e-books or real books are included). It is what you make it.

    Stalk the Taskstream grading system to see if your papers are picked up. No, really. It's like a hobby. They should make Evaluator Trading Cards or something.

    Again, this school is all online. As a result, no dining hall. However, I am an excellent cook. And, on days when I am working too much on school to cook dinner, my wonderful family either cooks or brings food home.

    There are no dorms, because this school is online. The great thing is that I can work wherever I have internet connection and power. I have converted my dining room into a study and work room, and it is perfect for me. If you are looking for a traditional college experience, this is not it.

    Honestly, I have worked very hard in some courses and others have been a breeze. The challenging courses are not insurmountable. The ones that have been easy for me are subjects that I have either experienced in the real world either through work or social interaction, or just because I love to learn anyway.     Ask yourself if you can truly work on your own, and if you answer that you can, talk to an enrollment counselor. The program is directed, the work is not a joke, and the school is accredited. Be honest in assessing your ability to motivate yourself to do a lot of research and a lot of writing.

    I go to concerts on my free time. I really enjoy learning more successful lesson plan developments for my class.

    My best tip would be to get a program that formats your papers to APA for you, like PERRLA. (I don't represent them, just love them). Having a program to help me format my papers and bibliographies has saved me hours of time. Also, use the rubrics as your outline, it makes your paper easier to grade and therefor easier to complete successfully the first time.

    I'm still relatively new to the WGU student family but the one thing I have noticed that seems like a lot of fun is that WGU allows hosting's of 'meet-and-greets'. Students who are attending WGU in a specific city can all meet at a location and experience some bonding time. This helps boost moral and will help keep students feeling 'connected' by being face-to-face with their peers.

    WGU definitely caters to the student with 'unusual circumstances'. Anyone who has been out of school for a number of years, already has a family or who is already established in their career, could really benefit from the type of schedule needed for this program. You choose the hours that you are able to devote to your studies. There are no set times you have to 'login' except when you have signed up to take your finals.

    WGU is an online program so there is no 'campus' which in itself is unusual! Everything is accessed virtually except for phone conversations that you have with your assigned mentor. They do hold 'Commencement Ceremonies' for graduates so that you can still experience walking across the stage and wearing your cap and gown.

    WGU is definitely the school to choose in order to get the most 'bang for your buck'. Terms are six months in length and the cost is approximately $3,000/term. It is technically designed to be a 4 year program but with hard work and discipline it is possible to accelerate the program so you can get more done, in less time and for less money.

    WGU has an interactive 'Communities' message board where you can connect with your fellow classmates from all over the world. There are discussion topics about specific classes and you can always find message boards offering support and assistance from your peers.

    I am just beginning my education with WGU but I can already tell that this is going to be a very challenging work load. The program is broken down into Competency Units that are equivalent to Credit Hours and you must adequately display your competency in order to pass a class. There are 'Subject Mentor's' who you can contact for specific questions or support but otherwise the program is self-taught.

    If you can transfer in some type of college credit or AP test scores this will benefit you greatly. This will help put you ahead of schedule in the length of time you will need to complete the program. If you are transferring in any credit or scores, allow plenty of time for them to be delivered to WGU. This was the only thing that prevented me from being able to start my education with WGU sooner.

    I did not have a very positive initial experience with my first Enrollment Counselor but ever since then, every member of the staff has been extremely helpful and accommodating. It has been a refreshing experience to speak to a college and have the focus be my education and not money. They truly want every student to succeed and take pride in their role as mentors.

    Whenever possible, view the assessments at the beginning of the course. This helps guide your work and schedule study time efficiently. You don't have to buy books, they are attached to your course. This cost is part of tuition, but the cost is small compared to buying books.

    What ever I would like with my family. All I have to do is take my computer with me on vacation, family get together or not at all. If I have finished my class work then I have free time or I can take time to go somewhere with my family and still have time to finish my class work.

    Is just as difficult as an other school and I speak from experience.     Use your time wisely and take notes/study effectively, but know that the mentors there always have your back. You always have the means to correct your mistakes and learn from them. If you are not self-disciplined, this may not be for you.

    If you are comfortable with setting your own schedule, working with your computer, and have Internet access then this school is for you. You'll enjoy having all the resources you need at your fingertips. On top of it all, you'll know you get the most out of your money since the degree plans are all based on standards for your field. In my particular case, I'm working on getting my certifications in Information Technology while obtaining credit for my degree at the same time!

    You attend classes online and all self-paced. You don't have to join chat rooms at certain times. You worry only about yourself and what goals you've set with help of your coach, who is with you every step of the way. I haven't had any problems and all good experiences so far.

    There is an honor society, the Alpha Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, but it is only for the teaching college. The business and nursing colleges do not have one at present.
    Clubs and Activities

    Every course has a community that message about how hard or easy they are finding the subject, and they also give each other points and ideas on how to tackle it. There are career cafes, alumni services, and the WGU Channel which is an on-demand library of informative how-to presentations especially helpful for the new student. Finally, WGU has a free and confidential student assistance program for students and members of their families. where they can access services or speak with a professional counselor 24/7.

    To guard against plagiarism, WGU uses a proprietary originality review tool, which checks the work submitted with that of other students, other texts, and even the Internet. You are assigned a student mentor who contacts you weekly or biweekly to keep you motivated and on track, and is there to help you plan out your courses and make suggestion. If you have difficulty with a subject, the course mentors are ready to help you think through the problem, and the lessons continue until you demonstrate that you are competent in that subject.

    There is a learning curve of about two months before you feel comfortable with the use of the website and all that is available to you. But if you listen to the mentors, and follow your course of study (COS), you will survive your learning curve with an appreciation for the wealth of information at your disposal.

    When it comes to WGU, the setup for classes and academics a little different then your traditional colleges. Some classes you have more work then you know what to do with, other classes you can just fly right on through and you wonder where the time went! In the end though the Academic Rigor really just depends on how well you can keep yourself focused on the tasks your doing since you don't have specific deadlines you have to meet on all assignments.

    My advice to another student would be to look in to this college. If you are tried of the regular college life and need another option to get school finished up, this is it. I can work and go to school. No night classes or times when you have to check in. There are many resources and people at WGU to assist in whatever way they can. I have a mentor that calls me weekly to see how I'm doing and to make sure I stay on top of studying. I think WGU has made me a better student. They want me to succeed and to get done as quickly as I can. They don't throw in fluff classes to try to ring out more money. I could have finished the program in one term if I were motivated, but I will still finish in two terms despite slacking off a bit the first term.     Being a military wife I think it's perfect for our group. You study at your own pace, they offer a reasonable price, and you can get a scholarship. This school also works for any working person, I think some companies offer tuition assistance.

    I feel that this school is cheaper then going to a campus. Plus the tuition has not raised in 5 years which basically means you won't be big in student debt. Like i said it is cheaper and a good alternative to being on campus. I found also that talking to students is also good if you want additional feedback and help in getting through classes.

    Some of the classes are tougher then others. I would highly suggest if there are review sessions or webinars for the class to attend as many as you can because they really do help. If you still have questions talk to the course mentors because they are really helpful in getting you on the right track.

    I say that in order to succeed at western governors you have to be really dedicated to working on the classes at least 15 hours a week. You have be disciplined enough to not get distracted to much when working on a class. I also find doing the tests at home is very time and money saving. However i might suggest also looking for a testing site close by because it can be hard to focus on the test at home.

    I compared the cost of tuition for a Bachelors in Business from several different online schools and found that I would be paying between $350-$500 per credit hour. I have completed 5 courses in a 6 month period making my tuition only $170.00 per credit hour at WGU, significantly less! I pay a flat rate for tuition/books of $3035.00 per 6 month term regardless of how many classes I take!

    Students pay for a sessions, not for units or classes. In one aggressive session I completed 24 units and the out of pocket expense was the same as a session with 14 units. In another instance I finished my classes early and was able to add with out additional fees. It was the least expensive online school that I found in my research.

    I really have done some research and couldn't find a school that offered all that WGU does for the price it does. The price per credit is based upon the amount of credits you can get in a term(6 months) or yearly the thing that makes it vary is the fact you can get the minimum 12 Competency Units(CU) or better known as credits or excel at your own pace with no limits on the amount of CUs you can earn. The price does not change no matter what, it is the same per 6 months.

    Ask plenty of questions and make sure you're dedicated to your goal. This program will only work for you if you're able to stay focused and able to motivate yourself to complete the classes.

    WGU is great for dedicated students who work full time and therefore can't really attend a brick and mortar collage. It is also great for single parents, or anybody who lives in a rural location and has troubles traveling to a college. I am a single mom who works full time, so WGU was the best choice for me. It does require dedication, discipline and routine to get the work done, but it's well worth it!

    WGU is a not-for-profit college. A term is 6 months, and tuition is very reasonable. You are required to take 12 credit units each 6 months, which is usually 3 classes. However, if you finish your three classes early, you can then take more classes at no extra cost! If you can do that each term, you will graduate early, and save money.

    There is no dorm life, as it is 100% online.

    You need to plan to study for 15 or 20 hours per week. Some classes are harder than others, but each course has one or two course mentors (these are separate from your student mentors) who can help you if you reach a difficult point. If you do not pass a task, you are given a chance to re-do it. If you don't pass it a second time, you are required to have tutoring from the course mentor. However, they are so knowledgeable and easy to work with, it's best to just get help from them as soon as you begin struggling.

    The best tip for prospective students is to stay in touch weekly with your student mentor. Your mentor can and will help you with many kinds of issues, and is the best cheering section you could ever ask for; this is especially helpful to those, like me, who do not have a support system otherwise. Tuition is reasonable, and if you finish your required 12 CUs early, you can take more classes at no extra cost before your term is over. There are no set classes, you work at your own pace, and basically teach yourself, so you do need discipline to keep up the pace.

    WGU is the best bang for my buck! I can study on my own time, so I don't have to give up my full time job. Also, I can go as fast as I want: this term I will likely complete twice as many credits as is needed to satisfy my academic status! This means I have saved myself the trouble and expense of an entire term! Also, terms last a full six months, so I can attend school fully year-round, and accelerate my degree in that regard too (you don't have to sit out of school during summer break).

    WGU held a holiday party in my hometown for all the local students to attend.

    The course work, so far, has been challenging, yet very attainable. I am able to study and do the work on my own schedule, rather than on a teacher's schedule, so I feel less pressured to finish assignments by a specified time. Also, there is a lot of encouragement to do your own research and studying; they don't care so much HOW you learn the material, just that you have indeed learned it and can show it. Another amazing thing about WGU: they allow you to take one class at a time! Every other school wants you to take three or more classes at the same time in order to qualify as a full time student. But at WGU, you can take one at a time and really concentrate on that one course! It makes the whole experience very low pressure!

    Many are afraid that online schools will ruin their academic image. But WGU is equally accredited as the state schools! Also, they are a nonprofit, so their tuition is more affordable than the state school too! You can even apply for federal financial aid.

    Western Governor's University has very reasonable pricing for what you get out of it. It has a flat-rate tuition every six-month semester, which saves you money over many other universities. For someone using financial aid, like me, that equates to thousands saved over the long haul. I like that aspect!

    For fun, I take an occasional break and watch a movie, read a book, or just sit and visit. I still make time for my family, friends, and co-workers so that my life has variety. We even have time to go ice skating, go bowling, go out to dinner, or go to a movie.

    The food is great! It's just down the hall from my bedroom to my kitchen. I try to study for 45-50 minutes straight, then take a break to rest my eyes and stretch my legs. If I need to eat, it's right there. Occasionally, I will take a couple of hours to get something else done, but I'm right back at it again as soon as I can get there.

    I live within 25 miles of the campus, and since everything is online-based at this school, their campus is strictly administrative so it isn't likely I would ever need to go there. Therefore, I live at home and do my school via computer. Dorm life . . . it's great!

    Don't let the academic qualification scare you. They are challenging, but if you put some effort into them and call or send the mentors emails they can un-stick you if your stuck. That said, they aren't a Harvard or a Yale - although I never attended either of those schools so that is based on my gut and not scientific empirical data.

    You should look into Western Governors University website, because their information is subject to change. In order to apply you have to have AP High School Credit, Transfer Credit, or an Accredited Degree or Certificate. Bottom line is you can't enroll if you have 0 credits. This University is 100% online and requires high speed internet access. The tuition is affordable and according to their email, as of 2012 they haven't raised tuition for 5 years since they are non-for-profit. The classes are challenging, but the mentors (name for their professors) are there to help you all along the way. Unless you want to purchase your books, all books are electronic that I have taken so far. The interface is very user friendly and after you get use to it (us older people were born before computers were invented) seems one of the best with very few glitches. Sometimes their testing is a little different, but as long as you pay attention and work with the vendor which provides the testing if you have IT issues they can help you through them. That said, I would say in my opinion it is a reliable system. If you need Financial Aid they prompt you if you are busy like I am and usually respond within 24-48 hours. One thing they are not is a institution that spoon feeds ipod zombies. Go to a brick and mortar school if you want to watched after, You have to be a self starter too.     WGU is the MOST affordable college experience I have ever seen or been a part of! It is thousands of dollars less than most schools, is non-proft and fully accredited. Plus you get access to a full-featured online library, e-books and virtual labs for lots of programs, free student licenses for microsoft products valued at hundreds of dollars and more.

    Whatever you want! School life won't limit you from doing what you want for fun. Need a weekend off or a night off. Schedule your own study time around that. You have the flexibility to do what you want. But personally, I cram extra studies in so I can accelerate my degree and get it in less time than traditional degree programs.

    An unusual tradition at WGU is it's introduction to new students. Each month a Facebook announcement is sent out introducing new students. Since students can begin on the first of any given month, there are new students every month. It is a great way to identify students in your own state for local networking.

    The tuition rate for WGU is less than many state institutions. WGU is self-paced with a flat-rate tuition fee. The more credits you can complete in a single term, the better rate you're getting for your credits. It's essentially a self-awarding academic scholarship.

    Western Governors University is great for people who work full time or live too far from a school. For example I live on a military base in Japan. I would have no way to earn my education degree.

    Tuition is very affordable at around $3,000 per semester for as many classes as you can complete in the six month semester.

    Because it is an online college you could do just about anything while taking classes. You could listen to your favorite record or the news.

    The classes are centered on mastery of a subject rather then classroom hours. Some of my classes consisted or writing several papers while other consisted of only one graded test. There is coursework to teach the material however this can be skipped for students who already have full comprehension. This allows for classes to be completed quicker.

    At Western Governors University you work with a mentor. They call you every week to discuss your academic progress and to help you with any difficulties you may be having. It's very helpful to establish a good relationship with your mentor.

    The courses have not been overly challenging so far. I have about 23 CU's left to complete.

    Try to get as many courses done each term as you can. It is worth it to save on taking out student loans and you get done so much faster!
