    Get to know your professors and take the teachers you like. That what has help me do well in this school. I found the professor that I learned best from and I knew and took those classes from them. There are teachers her that aren't that great.

    Be prepared to have to figure a lot out by yourself, while staff tries to help most of the time I've discovered that there's a lot that isn't said/done when it all comes down to it. Also, know what you want to do coming in. Western isn't a very good place for people who are unsure about the direction in which they are heading.
