I play catch with friends and go to other dorms for fun. I did go to volleyball and basketball games while they were playing. Don't forget that this school doesn't have a football team! It does mean that we focus on the smaller sports though.

In the gym there's weights, items available for renting (basketballs, mats, tools, etc.), rock climbing center, and a swimming pool. Not to mention plenty of extra recreational groups/activities (yoga, etc.) to explore. Great, large, well kept track and field as well. If the gym is boring, the downtown area and bay-side are only a half hour walk away from campus.

Bellingham as a town is really outdoor-sy. Surrounded by mountains and forest, there is plenty of skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, and rock climbing to be found. The Arboretum is a giant hill right behind the campus with lots of trails and places to explore. Downtown Bellingham is a short walk from campus and has several shops and stores to check out. The public transportation is excellent, and you can get basically anywhere in the city or surrounding counties by bus. There are also some great places around Western to just hang out with friends and play games.

Western is a very outdoorsy school. We have an outdoors center from which you can learn about hikes and winter activities available. You can also rent camping equipment and learn how to fix up your bike. In our downtown areas, there are several thrift shops and goofy stores to explore while you lick and ice cream cone from Mallards Ice Cream. You can walk to Boulevard Park and sip on a Wood's coffee while you watch the sunset. The possibilities for activities around campus and on campus are endless. If you don't want to leave campus, there are many clubs who host activities. In the fall, feel free to attend the Yule Ball in Harry Potter costume. There is a Winter Formal you can attend, and several concerts on campus.
