Great for these types of students

If you like the extra help of being able to go to tutors, other students, and professors, this is the school for you! Another huge factor in my decision to attend this school was that the campus is small and classes contain an average of 17 students. This makes hearing and seeing during class a breeze!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as you can! I wasn't lucky enough to have my parents help with my educational costs because of difficulties we as a family have been having with finances. Fortunately, I have had zero worries when it comes to paying tuition, etc. because of the many scholarships I received!

    Bang for the buck

The school is definitely on the far end when it comes to costs, but I think every cent is worth it. They are also really great at helping you apply for financial aid and scholarships, which is something I wouldn't be able to do without! My first year of college, I had no idea how or what to do to fill out the FAFSA. The Financial Aid office told my mom to bring in the application and they would help us fill it out. How amazing is that? The professors are great and dedicated to helping us students learn the most we can, which pays off when it comes to post-graduation.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being a student at Westminster. The campus is beautiful and quaint, and I especially love how anywhere you go, someone will always be smiling and ready to say hello. Everyone at Westminster is very friendly, not only the students, but all of the staff, as well! It's never awkward seeing a professor on campus because they go out of their way to call you out (by name) and ask how you're doing. It's great! It definitely makes you feel at home and a part of the Westminster community.

    Am learning a lot

Westminster College is a very challenging school. I feel like I am learning so much more than I would be in a larger school because I am able to interact with other students and professors both during and after classes. All of the professors have office hours where they dedicate time to help their students with homework and difficult course objectives. I have found this to be so helpful because, as a student, you feel like you are getting a one-on-one lesson with the expert!

Great for these types of students

This school is perfect for students who prefer small class room settings, one on one interaction, and a great sense of community wellness. There are so many clubs that there is always a group for someone.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a student who needs more one on one attention from a teacher, and works well in smaller settings then Westminster is perfect for you. I suggest living on campus if you do decide to make Westminster your college of choice. It allowed me to meet new friends and have opportunities to just chill when I'm not studying. If you want a bigger school with frats and sororities then I suggest maybe the University of Utah but just know they will have very large class settings, and won't have the intimate feeling Westminster provides.

    Bang for the buck

Westminster is very expensive, and they keep raising the tuition cost every year. It was a very difficult choice to come here and spend triple then what I would at my state colleges. Yet, I still think it's worth it, I have been presented with more opportunities then I ever would have the chance to do at the state level. Also Westminster has provided me with plenty of scholarships to help make the tuition costs more reasonable. It is worth it for the private education that Westminster College provides.

    Am enjoying being here

I love living on campus, I met the most awesome people, and now they are my friends for life.

    Am learning a lot

I am in love with Westminster College. It turned out to be the perfect college for me, the size, student to professor ratio was just what I wanted and needed. Also it is a liberal arts school which really expanded my views on learning not only academically but also politically. I am also able to do extracurricular activities I love while still being able to focus on my education. For example I was the lead in the school play but am not a theater major, it really gives everyone the equal opportunity to participate in what ever they love. If you are looking for a small, one on one school, Westminster College is perfect for you.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is very high! I've never felt unsafe on campus. The college is right next to a major road but it is hidden by trees all around the college. The town of Sugar House is very safe as well.

    Bang for the buck

Westminster College looks expensive at first, but the longer you attend, the most scholarships you qualify for. The college is very reputable with AMAZING professors. The quality of education is very high.

    What to do for fun

There are so many things to do in the Sugar House area and downtown Salt Lake. Sugarhouse Park is a great place to run, hang out, or study. City Creek Mall is Downtown and it is beautiful with great stores and restaurants.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright. The college is working on getting a new food program that will promote more local and organic food. The coffee is great though!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is great! Freshman year, you get to meet basically everyone between your classes and your Residence Hall. They have great freshman activities. Most of the R.A's are awesome

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor depends on your major, but overall the classes are demanding. The professors are very helpful and there are many other resources available for everyone. The classes are challenging but do not be intimidated.

    Tips for prospective students

Be very diligent when applying for scholarships within the college. Live in the dorms your freshman year. Have fun and explore the Sugar House area off campus!

    In three sentences

Westminster College is the best college I have attended! They have small class sizes and great professors. The college has a great reputation in Salt Lake City

Great for these types of students

If you enjoy having smaller class sizes and getting to know your professors one on one, this is a great college for that! The biggest class size that I have right now is 25 students which was the size of my smallest class in high school. Getting to know the professors on a first name basis can help with learning more and better.

    Am learning a lot

Professors here are energetic and will do anything to help you learn more. They make class fun and make you get engaged. they take the time to help you one on one if you have any questions and they are there to mentor you throughout your whole college experience.

    Bang for the buck

I don't know about the cost right now. That's the only thing that's keeping me from going so far. It seems like it would definitely be worth it, but I just can't come up with the money.

    Will enjoy being here

It seems like a really fun campus, and is very vibrant. The students there are kind, helpful, and really nice.

    Will learn a lot

I believe that I really will learn a lot. The teachers seem very willing to help and give you as many opportunities as you need. 3 of the professors already know my name just from Admitted Students Day!

Great for these types of students

Anyone who enjoys learning and is looking for more than just a lecture based class.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved. Don't be nervous because everyone is in the same position that you are. Get out there, meet new people. You might be friends with them for the rest of your life.

    Bang for the buck

Yes. The knowledge that I have gained while being there has made it 100% worth it. It is so worth checking out.

    Am enjoying being here

Of course! ASWC offers so many opportunites for students to get involved and plan so many fun events that it is impossible to get bored.

    Am learning a lot

Absolutely! The professors here really care to see you succeed. I made the best decision by deciding to go to college there and would never change what has happened. I have grown so much while being at the Westminster.

Great for these types of students

Students who care very much about their education, enjoy being involved, and want a fairly small school will be well matched to this college.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not settle for any grade less than a 3.8 in highschool! Do not settle for any score less than perfect on your ACT or SAT! The higher these numbers are when you are admitted, the higher your granted financial aid will be from Westminster.

    Bang for the buck

Westminster College is very expensive, but over 90% of all students are granted some kind of financial aid. The rest of it you pay will be worth every penny for it's excellent use of funds.

    Am enjoying being here

Westminster College is a beautiful campus nestled deep in the heart of Sugarhouse neighborhood, where there are strawberries, blackberries, serviceberries, currants, and hundreds of flowers growing all over campus! I love being here because there is so much to do and see, and there is usually always something fun and exciting happening on campus. If the fun runs out on campus, the 9 world class ski resorts in the area, red butte gardens, temple square, art museum, museum of natural history, and tons of other attractions are sure to keep you busy. Salt Lake City combines the low crime and friendliness of a small town with the large resources and activity of a large town. That's why I love being in Salt Lake City, at the prestigious Westminster College.

    Am learning a lot

Westminster College has bountiful resources and amazing, high-tech facilities to ensure that we learn as much as possible. For example, the new Meldrum Science Center has state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories so that teachers can easily present a concept and demonstrate a reaction, while students can use complex tools to accurately complete a lab or homework.

    Tips for prospective students

The best way to enjoy the campus is by being involved. If you attend the events you will never be bored.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is expensive, but finding financial aid is easy. If you do well in academics and are involved around campus, the school is very generous!

    Am enjoying being here

The lack of involvement by students in school activities is disturbing. The lack of diversity also makes the school a little boring. There are a lot of international students that make the school interesting, and there is always some activity going on.

    Am learning a lot

Every class at Westminster College has under 25 students so you get the individual attention that you pay for. It is very easy to find teachers outside of class so you able to discuss any assignments you may be having difficulty with. You know you are getting a good education here because the professors are passionate about the subjects that they teach and are always using new methods to maximize their students' potentials.

Great for these types of students

Students who are willing to put in work, want to have a good time, love recreational activities, aspiring for a profitable future, wish to have resources and connection outside of college life, and just want to have incredible life changing experience overall.

    Tips for prospective students

Westmisnter is a complicated school to get into but it is fabulous. Be sure to get involved as there are always ways to meet others, get help in school, and make the best of your learning experience. There is always something going on in and out of school and it can be an incredible environment to grow.

    Bang for the buck

The information i have learned here is incredible. This school hasn't only changed my cognitive knowledge and abilities but taught me about the world, changed my outlook and political views, and taught me ways to benefit and improve myself just within my own life.

    Am enjoying being here

The people are fantastic. Student Council has a great involvement with the students and what changes they are wanting to see be made. There are constant events occurring on and off of campus all of which can allow you to get to know others. Education wise you always have free tutors, class assistants, and other resources. You can become involved in extracurricular activities, theater activities, etc that don't require you being involved within that major.

    Am learning a lot

The learning environment it's absolutely incredible. The class sizes are small to insure that your teachers have time to dedicate to you and your education as well as improvement. The advantages to this are the great experience that come from it. Having the ability to connect and have your professors actually know you means more motivation for class, someone to assist you in apply for future schools and provide resources for a future profession. My professors have been able to take time out of their day and assist me in classes and in my future en devours. I couldn't ask for a better environment with more knowledgeable people as each professor here has their PHD in the area they are teaching.

Great for these types of students

westminster is great for any student looking to make many life-long friends, receive an awesome and also prestigious education, and for those who love being active!

    What to do for fun

there are so many clubs and events at westminster that even if you want to have free time you fill it with something being offered! this includes a variety of intramural sports, sporting events to attend, clubs and organizations to participate in, and many events such as cultural celebrations, plays, and even snack of the week!

    Food and Dining

there is a wide variety of food offered in our commons and it is also a great place to meet up with your friends to have lunch with! there are tons of places around westminster that are very close so you will always have a variety!

    Dorm Life

i have not lived in the dorms but i wish i had at least my freshman year. though they may not look like they are the best quality, the friends that i have seen being made in the dorms are still friends to this day. with such a small school it would be great to get to know everyone!

    Academic Rigor

westminster is far from a strict school. because we are a liberal arts college there are many things that are accepted her as compared to other colleges and universities. yes, we still have rules but you learn to love and respect the community so much that you do not have to think twice about following the rules, it comes naturally from respect!

    Tips for prospective students

don't be afraid to reach out to the people who you see every day! you are going to know them eventually anyways and it is much more beneficial to begin networking early.

    In three sentences

    Campus Safety

this is a very safe campus to live on. i have never felt threatened while here, nor while walking around in the surrounding areas. overall sugar house and westminster are safe places for all to live. campus patrol is always out there, and are more than willing to escort you if you feel uncomfortable at night.

    Greek Life

there is no greek life at this school.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs and activities available to students attending westminster. i myself am a member of three clubs: westminster asl, westminster players, and catholics on the rocks. aswc puts on a lot of activities throughout the year, such as mr. westminster, glow-in-the-dark capture the flag, and several dances. we also have a variety of sports teams, including soccer, lacrosse, and basketball. there is also a variety of inter mural sports available throughout the year.

    Bang for the buck

you definitely get your money's worth at this school. part of your tuition pays for a uta bus pass and on-campus events. so far this year we have had popular comedians perform, multiple guest speakers, the dollar-theatre buy out (free movies for a day), bowling nights, and many more. the quality of the education i have been receiving from this school also is definitely worth the money i pay to receive it. the money you pay for tuition definitely is put to good use, both in extracurricular activities and academics.

    What to do for fun

there is a lot to do here in sugar house, where the school is located. there is a shopping area within walking distance, which has several clothing stores, a barnes and nobles, several restaurants, etc. there is also a second-run theatre where you can see movies for around $2, which can make for a fun friday night. outside of sugar house, there is even more to do. there are multiple shopping centers, including the gateway, and many restaurants, bowling alleys, arcades, etc. if you are outdoorsy, there are many places to hike, camp, rock climb, ski, snowboard, and any other outdoors activity you can think of, that are available to students. in my opinion, it would be very hard to be bored living in this area.

    Food and Dining

the food that the shaw center has is good, but there is little variety. i find myself going through a cycle of the same sort of foods every week. they also have few healthier snacking options, as they offer mostly chips and sweets, little in the way of crackers. the food does seem a little overpriced as well. their hours of operation are also a little inconvenient, as they close relatively earlier, around 7 or 8 pm. overall, the food they have is decent and i don't mind eating it, though i think there is room for improvement.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are fairly nice. some of the bathrooms need to have some work done, but overall the living conditions are good. people can be really rowdy, especially at night and during the weekends, but that is probably something that will occur at any college, not just this one. there are kitchens on each floor of the freshmen dorms, so if you like to cook you will have a place to do so. heating and air conditioning are both fully functional, and the lounges are great places to just hang out in. overall, i have rather enjoyed my stay at the dorms.

    Academic Rigor

the school does expect a lot from you academically. in general, they just want you to be a well rounded student. the learning requirements cover topics from your typical school subjects to personal wellness, such as physical fitness. there's also a huge emphasis in learning about diversity, shown in the many diversity lectures we receive at this college from a multitude of guest speakers. this year the e-portfolio was made a graduation requirement, as these portfolios would show just how we grow as students and display how well-rounded we have become as a result of attending this school.

    Tips for prospective students

the greatest tip i can give is attend all of your classes. the class sizes are small enough that it will be noticed if you are not there. also, you are paying for these classes, so why not attend them? another tip i can give is participate in as many on campus activities as you possible can. aswc, the people who plan events, come up with so many fun activities and events that are great ways to meet people and generally just have fun.

    In three sentences

westminster college is a fantastic learning environment for all students. the small size of the school allows for one-on-one interactions with professors and other members of the faculty. the school is a close-knit community where anyone can find a niche where they belong.

    Bang for the buck

for a private school it is extremely inexpensive, the financial aid department is extremely accessible and helpful. i attended a public university for two years and i am paying less at westminster than i ever did there.

    What to do for fun

go outside! this is the most beautiful place in the world, only hours away are some of the most amazing ski resorts, national parks, rock climbing spots, mountain biking trails, and so much more.

    Food and Dining

very standard college cafeteria with excellent choices for food.

    Dorm Life

excellent, very tight community with plenty of access to all your basic needs.

    Tips for prospective students

be involved, do whatever it takes to consistently be involved with on campus activities. live in the dorms, take advantage of the outdoor recreation program, attend all home sports games and take an active role in your own education.

    In three sentences

    Dorm Life

I have not personally not experienced dorm life. I have lived in my own apartment for all of my college life. But does offer campus housing for all forms of students that come onto the campus.

    Academic Rigor

Personally I spend every spear moment studying material needed for each class. The more material I know personally makes me feel more confident in the information I will need to be aware of in the given field I am interested in. Also this allows me at being able to participate in discussions both within the classroom and outside.

    Tips for prospective students

For any prospective student I would make sure to let these students know that no question should be over looked. When considering to attend any college you should be willing to ask any form of questions that might come to mind. This will allow you to receive a better image of the type of program you are interested in. Also to visit the university/college first hand and talk to faculty face-to-face/

    In three sentences

Westminster is a very interactive facility, with helping answer all questions and returns email/phone calls at a timely manner. Since I am unable to visit the college as of right now the facility has been able to give me detailed answers and is able to send me all information I might be interested in. The program I will be attending in the Fall is very student oriented and allows me to explore the given field in detail.

    Campus Safety

Campus Patrol is always on duty. When you're a freshman, you're given a contact card to put on your keys. Save yourself the trouble and just save campus patrol's number along with local cab numbers so you're never in trouble or stranded.

    Greek Life

    Zero.

    Clubs and Activities

Some clubs are more involved with others, some only meet once a month.

    Bang for the buck

Overall, Westminster is known as a prestigious school out West but it is pricey so having the finances covered first is really important.

    What to do for fun

Get out there and check out salt lake's thrift stores for cheap home goods (DI), Dancing Cranes for sweet dorm decorations & gifts, and little hole in the wall restaurants like Ekamai, Red Ginger Bistro, or Eva downtown. Find local hiking trails and campgrounds. During the winter, get a ski pass to a resort!

    Food and Dining

Shaw's food is not that great.

    Dorm Life

Your freshman year can be determined where you live on campus first. Carleson hall is the most secluded dorm, could be described as lower-end, has poor architecture for social activities. Hogle hall is the most social, girls and boys live on the same floor and there is a common area in the middle on each floor. Olwell is the apartment-style dorm where up to 6 people can have their own rooms, probably social within the apartment, but maybe little interaction with everyone on the same floor.

    Academic Rigor

Gen eds will always be easy. More specialized classes usually have professors with doctorates who encourage you to think for yourself while challenging you to analyze the lesson further.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for as many scholarships as you can (westminster is pretty expensive) and make sure your FAFSA deadlines are met. Buy your books on amazon. Check your course syllabus often. Be prepared to see people you know often in Shaw and in the commons.

    In three sentences

Westminster makes it easy for you to succeed. It has small class sizes with professors who care about your well-being and your education. Getting more specialized in your major, you'll notice how professors will challenge you but really care about your success. Resources on campus such as therapy (counseling center) and peer mentors are awesome people to talk to when you're having a little trouble.

The campus patrol is always around. They will even walk you to your room when it's dark if you are too afraid to walk by yourself, or just don't want to walk by yourself. They are never too far away if you need them either. I always felt safe on the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Yeah, I really feel like it's worth it. I know it's expensive, but when you are actually getting an education that you will us, it's worth it. Not to mention the number of resources that you are able to access without paying a penny is worth it in itself.

    What to do for fun

There is so many opportunities that the college offers. There is a gym with an indoor climbing wall, swimming pool, and there are groups of people that are almost always going to outdoorsy trips. The activities committee is usually planning interesting events for us to attend which is nice too.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't so great once you eat it all the time, but the dining area is a great place to stay out of the rain, or to be able to study with friends over a nice bagel and coffee.

    Dorm Life

I made some friends that I hope to have for the rest of my life living in the dorms last year. It really is a great community and it was nice when we had movie parties in the common room, or when the resident adviser would buy food and we would talk about things.

    Academic Rigor

I enjoyed the fact that I was being challenged in my academic pursuits for the first time in my life.

    What to do for fun

Westminster offers so many clubs and extracurricular activities. Since the campus is only 20 minutes from the mountains, there are weekend trips available every month. This includes everything from snowboarding to rock climbing trips down to Southern Utah. The gym offers a rock climbing wall that's great for quick climbs between classes. Also, the fitness center offers free fitness classes for students. This includes yoga, cycling, Zumba, and more. Associated Students of Westminster College (ASWC) offers lots of activities outside the class setting such as dances, movies, clubs, and more. Clubs are available for all interests.

    Food and Dining

I eat a Shaw everyday I'm taking classes. It's at the center of campus and convenient and quick. There are hot meals prepared for breakfast, lunch , and dinner. Shaw also offers a salad and sandwich bar, as well as necessary grocery items. The food is fresh and tasty. The seating area around Shaw is open and friendly. There is also seating outside for beautiful fall and spring days. The Bassis Center was just completed this semester and includes and open study space and coffee shop. The coffee is supplied by local roasters of the Sugarhouse community in Salt Lake City.

    Dorm Life

I have not had the opportunity to live in the dorms but I do have several friends that do. Most of the dorms have private rooms with shared bathrooms. RA's are friendly and plan activities for the dorm residents. All the dorm are up to date, in fact Westminster just completed the building of a new off campus dorm just blocks from campus. It's a beautiful building that feels like you are on your own but you still have the support of your fellow students and the school.

    Academic Rigor

While classes are challenging, the professors really want to see you succeed. Classroom sizes are no bigger than about 25 students, with the average being 18 students. Tutoring is free to all students. Most of the teachers give their personal cell numbers to the students for those weekend questions you might have while doing homework. There is a lot expected of you as a student but the teachers won't leave you in the dust.

    Tips for prospective students

Westminster gives you so many opportunities to explore your interests and seek out a degree that matters to you. The academic advisors get to know you and are able to help tailor your school schedule to what needs to be done as well as what you are passionate about. There are so many opportunities to be a part of this campus community and to enjoy the fun outdoors that Utah has to offer.

    In three sentences

Westminster College will prepare you for the world after college. The teachers are passionate, available, and genuinely want to see you succeed. It's a small campus where you feel like you are part of the campus community and your peers have your back.

Great. The campus is strict because of local Mormon laws.

Great for these types of students

People who need small class size. Snowboarders, skiers, people who like a safe environment.

    Bang for the buck

If you have the money go for it! Otherwise it may be better to go somewhere else for the first two years and transfer. I am only a freshman and haven't decided on an area of study but I think aviation would be worth the four years.

    What to do for fun

Snowboarding and skiing of course! I don't have the money for going out but there is great shopping and restaurants and concerts. Its not so much fun without a car as the city is not within walking distance. They have a rental car on campus but it ends up costing.

    Food and Dining

For me the dining plan was a rip off. I went for the Gold plan and ran out before the semester was over and so did most my friends. I had to take out a private loan to pay for food in cash and then it included tax!

    Dorm Life

I took a single room but it is way too small. Make sure to get your dorm selection in early and check out the apartments.

    Academic Rigor

It is a good challenge but you have to make your own uses of resources and advocacy if you have learning disabilities. The teacher to student ratio is awesome.

    Tips for prospective students

Really check out your bill before attending and make sure you have the full amount accounted for before you get on campus. It is very expensive and I already wish I had gone somewhere less so.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt unsafe on campus. This is really important to a commuter like me who goes to and from school via bike. Westminster and the area surrounding it is very safe!

    Greek Life

Greek life is non-existent here, in case you were wondering.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities you can find on campus are great at getting you involved with the school, the Sugarhouse area, and sometimes even the Salt Lake City area. It is a great place to start making friends and connections!

Great for these types of students

It is an awesome school for active, social, outdoors-inclined students. It is also ideal for people looking for small class sizes.

    Bang for the buck

While expensive, you won't regret going to Westminster. It is a great environment that gives you an outstanding quality of education.

    What to do for fun

There are a handful of outdoor activities you can participate in: rock climbing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, and camping to name just a few. The Sugarhouse area offers a variety of places for students to study or hang out at. As for Downtown, the shopping is great, and there are a bunch of cool historic and interesting sites, not to mention the awesome food options down there!

    Food and Dining

The food is expensive and bland. Luckily for returning and new students however, the school is finding a new food provider next year. This will bring more organic and local food options to students.

    Dorm Life

Despite living off campus my freshman year, I did pick up on a few things. If you intend to live in the apartment style dorms, realize that you are going to have to have a little more initiative when it comes to talking to students in your classes. Unlike those living in traditional style dorms, you don't really have a common room that allows for floor mates to connect, study, and hang-out together in.

    Academic Rigor

The courses here are demanding, but they are nothing to be intimidated by. With proper time management and organization, it is more than possible to do very well in your classes. If you have any questions or issues, your professors are typically more than happy to talk with you during their flexible office hours.

    Tips for prospective students

If at all possible, live in the dorms your freshman year- it makes a difference! Get involved in clubs and activities. Also, take time to explore the area around you, the mountains and city have so much to offer.

    In three sentences

Westminster College is a school with a great reputation in the Salt Lake area that is an excellent choice for students that are active and/or those who seek more than lecture style classes from the start. Additionally, the school has pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030, which I happen to find amazing and admirable. This is a school with a lot to offer, with a great location and small class sizes and amazing professors, what more could you want?

Great for these types of students

I've heard Westminster called an A school for B students. I don't like the phrase but it is great for naturally smart, committed people, who exist for more than school. We're also called the Harvard of the Mid-West. You get a great education with less demand. So the smart and laid-back (slacker) meshes well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

At the beginning of the year we have a campus wide capture the flag game. It's pretty much the amazing; I think of Community's paintball episodes. We also have quiddich matches, a small consolation for not getting into Hogwarts.

    Bang for the buck

Our hiring percentage post graduation is remarkably high. When you consider your employ-ability, education, and social promise the cost seems more bearable.

    What to do for fun

Everyone around here does winter sports. If you don't you will not go wanting. There's always a cool event, free food somewhere, and almost anywhere you'd want to go is in walking distance.

    Food and Dining

Shaw is ridiculously terrible! However, rumor is they will be leaving soon.

    Dorm Life

If you come here live on campus. Throw yourself into the experience. It also helps you form the bonds with other students. They do a good job matching you with compatible people. I've only seen a few Oscar and Felix-es.

    Academic Rigor

The academia level fluctuates. It varies between subjects, teachers, and student aptitude. What I enjoy is that it's definitely challenged me but it hasn't consumed me.

    Tips for prospective students

They give out scholarships like candy. Be rigorous in the search but don't stress out. They will help solidify your position regardless of your financial situation.

    In three sentences

Westminster is in the 'sweet spot.' Here that means snowboarding but I mean that it's the holy trinity of schooling, student life, and future promises. I mean that in my experience it offers a lot in all three aspects.

There are a lot of clubs available to suit your interests -- and if there isn't, you should start one! Activities are constant (to the point that getting emails about them starts to get annoying).

Great for these types of students

skiiers snowboarders rock climbers outdoorsy types

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, you can expect higher tuition. (albeit, this school's price can be quite staggering without a scholarship.) However, Westminster offers some financial perks: free local transportation, access to hundreds of databases that you would normally pay for, an exciting May Term, a writing lab, discounted ski passes, and other interesting things.

    What to do for fun

Your options are limitless! With the beautiful outdoor Utah surrounding you, there's no end to physical activity. There are weekly trips to the mountains to ski, snowboard, river raft, hike, camp, rock climb, or just explore. The campus is also close to the Capitol Theater, which offers endless performances by Ballet West, Utah Opera & others, Broadway Theatre, and other culturally rich experiences. Art, History, Science museums, Music venues, football games at the U -- you won't be bored.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria at Westminster isn't bad at all. It offers healthy, diverse choices. But even that is easy to get sick of. Luckily, though, there are lots of place in the surrounding Sugarhouse and Downtown area that will give you plenty of life's spice -- literally and figuratively.

    Dorm Life

Personally, I'm not sure about this -- I've only lived off campus. From my observations, the dorms look like a lot of fun, and a great place to make friends. However, most upperclassmen choose to rent college owned houses off campus.

    Academic Rigor

Although Westminster offers a high tier education, it gives plenty of space for the average student. While its nice to have a solid GPA, that's not everything here.

    Tips for prospective students

If you choose Westminster College as the place for you, I would definitely encourage you to learn/participate in a snow sport. With most of the school year being in snowy months, most people will be heading to the peaks. Also, take time to get to know the city. The campus is small, so most of your great memories will take place in the history-rich downtown SLC.

    In three sentences

Westminster College is a great place if you love the outdoors, a close knit community, and want a good foundation for a career or grad school. The small campus is nestled in the Wasatch mountains, providing excellent opportunities for skiing, hiking, rock climbing, and much more. Its small campus allows you to really get to know your professors and classmates -- you'll make friends for life.

    Campus Safety

I have heard mixed reviews about the patrollers from others and I have to say they all seemed really nice to me, I knew some of them pretty well, and they all were committed to equitable treatment of all student, faculty, and staff regardless of gender, age, sex, etc. My transgender friend never complained about the way they treated her. As far as how safe the campus is, the thing that is most often stolen apparently happens to be bicycles. Pretty much everything else is safe most of the time and I have heard of very, very few threats of any other kind.

    Greek Life

There's no such thing at Westminster. No frats, no sororities. Zilch. The only Greek things are the honoraries.

    Clubs and Activities

There are clubs for nearly everything and anything. Many of them are actually well maintained and the school does try to support them financially so you probably won't have to do a bake sale every other week.

Great for these types of students

Students that want to have a well balanced education that encompasses a great deal of topics and that are hoping to get into higher academia. In other words, if you have a one track mind and want to hop into work right out of college (which is no problem in my book), don't go here because you're the opposite of the right type.

    Bang for the buck

As far as private liberal arts colleges go Westminster seems fairly standard. I can't reliably compare the experience to a public school though.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of activities between athletics, student organizations, campus wide events, etc. and since a lot of the departments are small you will probably make friends with at least a few people and be able to go out into Salt Lake proper where there's actually a decent amount of stuff to do. If you are in the mood for a pub, particularly Irish, I recommend MacCool's :)

    Food and Dining

Unless they get rid of Sodexo, don't bother with the food. Sodexo is a horrible waste of space, and it isn't even the employees and managers so much as the corporate handling of the account, so don't expect things to change.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in the dorms but I had plenty of friends that did and there were a wide range of opinions. I have to say the rooms looked nice, but I heard enough horror stories to be disinterested.

    Academic Rigor

Most of the classes are on par for rigor with my other college experiences and are tough enough that you actually have to show up and do things. The professors are (generally) really helpful though so things aren't overly burdensome either.

    Tips for prospective students

Do you general education and liberal core stuff somewhere else. Save yourself the money. Further, most of the LE courses at Westmini are actually taught by adjuncts who really aren't all that great as a general rule. However, be careful where you do you gen eds, because the registrar's office is very uptight about transfers. While you are at it, fill your foreign language requirement elsewhere too. Also make sure the Westminster department/major you are looking at is worthwhile for your pursuits. As an example, and a just warning, the Computer Science department is not as wonderful as they wish.

    In three sentences

Westminster is a nice place, in many regards. But it is more about preparing someone for higher academia, graduate level pursuits, than it is about practical education. Go here if you want to get into grad school, don't go here if you want a job when you are finished.

Westminster is a top rated college for the are of study I am focusing on. It has great faculty and out of class events that will benefit my coursework substantially.

    What to do for fun

Westminster College has a number of NAIA and intramural activities as well as numerous outdoor- and theater-related events to add to the enjoyment of campus life.

    Food and Dining

Westminster College does food right. Events are catered beautifully and on-campus dining is open and inviting for all students, day and evening.

    Dorm Life

The new living spaces are located in the beautiful and secluded Westminster Campus and at the same time right in the heart of Sugar House, Utah. They are near public transportation as well as beautiful Sugar House Park.

    Academic Rigor

Thanks to small classes and academic programs, professors are better able to spend individual time with students, allowing them to push them inside and outside the classroom.

    Tips for prospective students

Save up, because this private school is expensive. Live on campus and take part in extracurricular activities.

    In three sentences

Westminster College has a small, intimate campus that is easy to navigate as well as safe. The Masters of Business Administration program is small enough that professors and students are able to get to know each other. The program offers wonderful networking opportunities with businesses and entrepreneurs in the community.

    Clubs and Activities

They have quite a variety, from Christian clubs to Environmental Clubs. I am excited to get involved in several of the clubs there.

Great for these types of students

Willing to work hard, outdoorsy, fun, well-rounded, ambitious

    Bang for the buck

I was able to get all of the cost except for about $5000 paid for. I have a few small outside scholarships. The financial aid office is very helpful in walking you through your awards! Talk to them and consider your options. They really want you to go to their school!

    What to do for fun

Salt Lake is so diverse and fun. I know there is tons to do, like going to concerts, skiing, biking, hiking, etc.

    Food and Dining

They had a variety of options. I assume the food is good!

    Dorm Life

There were the regular dorms for 2 people and they also have apartment-style, which are for 4 people with a little extra cost. The apartments are more updated and cleaner, but I think no matter where I live I think it'll be a great experience.

    Academic Rigor

I have not taken any classes, but from what I see it looks like it will be challenging. Being in the Honors program requires you to do extra things, participate in class discussions, do internships, etc. Even without the honors program it seems like the school gives attention to each student, meaning you need to be on top of your game.

    Tips for prospective students

Do well in school! If you are a good student, Westminster is VERY generous with financial aid. Also, apply to the Honors Program. There are scholarships for that as well. Visiting the campus and meeting with an admissions counselor really helped me solidfy my decision. For months I was not sure where to go, and then I went to the college tour and I fell in love!

    In three sentences

The first thing that impressed me about Westminster was the individualized attention. I met with an admissions counselor and I had a private tour. I love the small school feel with the big city opportunities!

    Campus Safety

Campus patrol does an amazing job monitoring the campus, and is readily available upon call.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is not an option at Westminster; however, the University of Utah allows Westminster students to join its Greek Life should that be something someone is interested in doing.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities available on and off campus that if there is not something that peaks your interest it would be quite surprising. If that is the case, however, the option of starting your own organization is readily available.

Great for these types of students

If you have high academic expectations, enjoy a tight-knit community, and love nature and being outdoors then this is your perfect school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One of the main traditions during freshmen year is to climb on top of Converse Hall...completely worth the adrenaline rush and the view.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private liberal arts school, the tuition at Westminster is relatively pricey. However, most students receive bountiful financial aid packages which lower costs dramatically. In the end, the academic, extracurricular, social, and recreational opportunities make the cost of attending Westminster well worth it.

    What to do for fun

Located in the center of Sugarhouse, there are endless opportunities to have fun. In addition to the hundreds of on campus events the school offers, students can walk five minutes into the sugarhouse shopping district and be exposed to various restaurants, thrift shops, and stores. Access to free public transportation allows students to travel anywhere in Salt Lake City, a few fun locations being downtown and the Gateway shopping center. There are always concerts and festivals going on. In addition, there are many ski resorts all within an hour of campus, so the possibilites for winter and summer outdoor recreation are endless.

    Food and Dining

Honestly, the food here is not great. It is very expensive for the quality of food provided, and it is extremely difficult to eat healthy due to a lack of nutritious options. There is also little variety, but the cafeteria has been teaming up with the environmental center to provided more options that are organic, local, fair trade, and humane, so hopefully the future holds a more positive outlook on the food.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life here can be summed up in one word: fun. Residents are offered the opportunity to create friendships with other residents through community programs and activities. Living in the dorms can be crazy and messy at times, and boring and quiet at the other, but in retrospective, it is an awesome experience that you do not want to pass up.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are quite demanding and require effort outside of the classroom. The liberal education required courses are less rigorous, and often the professors for these classes are not completely dedicated to teaching the material; however, in the higher division and specialized classes, professors are nurturing and attend to individual needs. These classes also require more academically, but also offer more to students.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a small school and people will come to know who you are. Professors attend to your individual needs and faculty will recognize you at the cafeteria. Make a good name for yourself and the school should you choose to come here because your actions will be noticed.

    In three sentences

Westminster is a positive and encouraging educational institution. Small class sizes allow for personal interaction with professors, and a vast multitude of clubs and organizations allow students to become involved on campus and in the community. The school's location in the Sugarhouse district provides a variety of off campus activities, ranging from shopping to hiking and skiing, for students to participate in.
