Categories Comments Great for these types of students Whitworth University is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, but it is not required for students to be of any particular religion or denomination. However, all of the professors are Christian of some denomination and do bring their beliefs and views into their teaching. Christianity is not forced on anyone, but faith is a strong aspect of the education at Whitworth. Students applying should be ready to work hard and to be challenged in many ways, but it is also very rewarding to see what was covered in just one semester.
Tips for prospective students Explore many different schools and make sure to visit a few. The visit is an important decision factor. It can make all the difference. Ask lots of questions and be curious. Although it may seem like admissions counselors are very busy, they are there to answer any questions. If you forget to ask something in the interview, go ahead and just send them an email. They'll be happy to get back to you and help however they can.
Bang for the buck The financial aid is fairly substantial and those in the student office are more than willing to work and find other options for individual students. Being a private college, the tuition is higher, but the education to be received is worth it.
Am enjoying being here The student life on campus is wonderful. There are many ways to get involved and it is also great to have a personal relationship with professors. Whitworth has a really good support system and it is very difficult for students to fall through the cracks like at some larger schools. As for off-campus activities, Spokane has much to offer in the way of entertainment. There are many options to choose from weekly, but many times, students find themselves so occupied on campus, they rarely leave.
Am learning a lot Whitworth believes strongly in an education of mind and heart and this is obvious through all of the professors. Class sizes are fairly small, allowing lots of interaction between students and professors. The material is challenging, but there is always help available for those who are looking for it. If the dorms are too loud, the library can provide some much needed quiet and comfortable chairs for study time.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Christian students who want to be challenged in their faith and in their education. Students who are open-minded and caring and who will enjoy a smaller university with countless opportunities to get involved in the Spokane community and receive an education of the mind and heart.
Tips for prospective students Be excited and willing to meet new people and have a great time. Try to visit during the fall or late spring--it's beautiful during these times. Visit a class if possible, and talk to current students. They will tell you all about the programs offered at Whitworth, the caliber of students and faculty, the integration of faith and learning, the emphasis on the Christian community, and the warm atmosphere that permeates the university.
Bang for the buck Whitworth is very expensive. Although they do offer scholarships, the cost to attend the university is significant. I do believe that it is a wonderful institution, but I'm not sure if the cost is necessary--I feel like it puts a burden on many students.
Am enjoying being here Whitworth has a great atmosphere and a welcoming community. Events are always occurring on-campus to provide students with a study break or a chance to hang out with others. Primetime, which happens from 8-11 every night, is put on by the RA's in every dorm to give students an option to have fun for a little while. Some of the Primetimes in my dorm this past semester included baking, Candy Corn Olympics, Sleeping Bag Wrestling, board games, and many others. The people at Whitworth are very friendly, and everyone cares for each other. Overall, the community and the campus itself makes Whitworth an amazing school.
Am learning a lot Whitworth has great academics--the classes are rigorous, and the class sizes are small enough for students to get the help they need from their professors. All classes integrate faith and learning, and my classes so far have been hard but definitely worthwhile. The CORE classes are required for all students, and CORE 150 taught me a lot this semester about worldviews and church history and different perspectives. The education department is great, and professors will work with you one-on-one to ensure that you are learning the course material.

Categories Comments Bang for the buck They have a great merit aid program that tells you right away the minimum amount of money you'll get.
Will enjoy being here It's a very intimate environment that allows close relationships to develop between both fellow students and professors.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students There are a wide variety of students at Whitworth. Because Whitworth is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church many students are Christian, but there are a decent amount that are not.
Tips for prospective students If you are interested in Whitworth University definitely visit campus. I didn't fall in love with the school until I stepped onto the campus and was surrounded by the students and shaded by the pine trees that cover campus.
Bang for the buck Whitworth is fairly expensive, but they are also very helpful in the area of financial aide. The relationships with professors and comfortable class sizes makes it worth the price.
Am enjoying being here Whitworth has an amazing community. I currently live on campus, in a dorm, and it is an amazing experience. I find students at Whitworth welcoming and warm. There are also many things on campus such as concerts and other events that bring students together and provide entertainment.
Am learning a lot The professors at Whitworth University are dedicated to their students and are willing to help students that are struggling and genuinely ask for help. Because Whitworth is a liberal arts college students have the opportunity to takes classes other than the ones required by their major. This gives students a chance to explore many areas. Many professors challenge their students to grow not only in intelligence but also in character.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students A Whitworth student can be any student. You don't have to be insanely smart, you don't have to be religious. Whitworth is all about community and understanding your role in a larger society. Students who engage and ask questions, will exceed at Whitworth. Students who are a little shyer can always meet with professors at anytime, or even discuss over coffee. Students who need help determining what they want to do will also exceed here.
Tips for prospective students Spend the night, or over the weekend if you ever have the chance. Speak to students and professors alike (you can find some in the coffee shop). Be engaged and never afraid to ask a question, the professors love any ideas, you might be talking for a while! Sit in a prime time and understand what makes a community.
Bang for the buck While the cost of colleges are consistently going up every year, Whitworth sits around $40,000 a year. However don't let this number discourage you! The school offers fantastic financial aid. There are also numerous types of aid available such as; music scholarship, SAT/ACT/GPA scholarships, and financial need scholarships. Whitworth has also been listed in US News and World Report has having the best learning environment to tuition, ranking number 6th out of 126 universities.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the campus, and campus life. Every night in your dorm there are group activities called Prime Times and it is a great way to relax and chill for a couple hours with members of your dorm. There are also great school wide activities from intramural sports and we have great athletics, (We've captured the McIlroy-Lewis Trophy for the best combined standings across all sports for the fourth time in six years.) All around we have immensely fun dances and great opportunities to meet other people from around the campus
Am learning a lot Whitworth University believes that education in all aspects of knowledge, major non-major subjects, are important to the University's ideology of an education of the Mind and Heart. Whitworth strongly demonstrates this with having been recognized as one of the top Universities in Washington.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Great for students who are religious.
Tips for prospective students Go to the school and talk to the students on campus. It is a great time to get into the school if you are a science major.
Am enjoying being here The campus is great and the dorms are in good shape. The school does not cater well to people who's views are different than those of the school.
Am learning a lot The classes are great and the professors are a great help.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Whitworth is a pretty strong christian college. You do not need to be any certain religion to go here, but the professors and other staff are all of some kind of christian denomination and they are proud to be so. It is also a dry campus, so if you are not a big party person and Jesus is a big part of your life, the Whitworth will be perfect for you!
Tips for prospective students Don't look at just one college. Make sure you do your research first. Also, if you are able, visiting the campuses is key. You never really know how much you are going to like a place until you go and see if for yourself. A lot of the time campus visits end up being the deciding factor for choosing a college.
Bang for the buck Don't let the initial cost of Whitworth deter you from wanting to go. The financial aid here at Whitworth is some of the best around. It is a private college so the tuition is pretty high, but the financial aid office makes it reasonable for just about anyone to go. The education you receive is well worth the cost too.
Am enjoying being here The overall Whitworth community is just fantastic! There is always something going on that you may never be bored! Everyone is so nice and friendly too. It's a fantastic school.
Am learning a lot The material to be studied is of a more difficult standard, but the professors are always there to help. Their office hours are consistent and they respond to e-mails really well. The class size is pretty small which allows for a more intimate setting where you learn more.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Acceptance to Whitworth has started getting slightly more difficult to keep the undergrad population around 2,000-2,500, but is definitely possible. A good GPA and SAT score will REALLY be rewarding in the scholarship department, however, having a strength other than getting the grades, such as a sport, art, or music will make you a great candidate as well. Whitworth will be a good fit for you if want to have professors that want to get to know you and help you succeed, if you want to feel accepted no matter what religion, race, or orientation you may be, and if you want have the opportunity to hear so many great bands and speakers visit your school EACH WEEK.
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY! It is so worth it because you will be accepted faster and have first choice for which dorm you want. Also, campus visits give you the best experience for making the final college decision. Especially try to stay overnight in a dorm if possible so you can get a glimpse of student life, which is tons of fun.
Bang for the buck Yes, this is an expensive private university, but I believe the school has so many advantages that make it a great value. Out of all the schools I applied too, Whitworth granted me the largest scholarship of $11,000 per year for four years. A few things that makes this school worth the price is that the class sizes are usually less than 20, the professors actually care about you as a whole person, are willing to help you one on one, and are understanding when you have a crisis. Not to mention there is so much openness between students and staff who want to investigate the spiritual side of the world. No matter what religion (or non-religion), students with various worldviews are encouraged to tackle big questions and present as well as develop their personal worldview while at Whitworth. This dimension is of Whitworth, combining mind and heart, is a unique aspect of the university. It truly feels like home.
Am enjoying being here Everyday I walk around campus completely thankful and amazed that I have the opportunity to be part of the Whitworth community. It truly is a close community that is vastly different than any large state university. When you meet someone new, you don't have to worry about never seeing them again. People are so friendly, it's really refreshing! Also, the weather is magnificent because Spokane has four wonderfully distinct seasons, only 17 inches of annual rainfall, and 260 clear days of sunshine. Another bonus is that the dining hall is expanding and will be brand new in fall 2012, three dorms have been built in the past 10 years, and a new dorm will be construted soon. I live in the newest dorm and it is like a hotel that is nicer than my room at home! Heck, I even get to take skiing/snowboarding for a PE credit! The brand new science building is also INCREDIBLE.
Am learning a lot I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge due to the fact that all of the professors I have had here are very passionate in their field. Most all of them have a doctorate, and all classes have upperclassman TA's that assist students with preparing for upcoming tests. The TA's are helpful, and sometimes provide optional sessions for students that need extra help. The largest class I had, which I took for my major, had 50 students. Even in this large class, my learning really progressed because I was able to develop a one on one relationship with the professor who encouraged everyone to visit her during office hours.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus security is always present and willing to give rides to students back to their dorms at night.
Greek Life There is no greek life at Whitworth
Clubs and Activities Plenty to get involved in!
Great for these types of students Students who want to be big fish in a small pond, want to know their professors on a personal level, love the outdoors, like snow, love God, are intellectuals, athletes, musicians, or dancers, want to study abroad
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Freshman boys Wooing the girls during orientation week, the interlude dance at basketball games, hall dates to Dockside to order huge oversized sundaes, catching falling pinecones
Bang for the buck From personal communication and relationships with professors, to cozy residence halls and a close knit community of students, Whitworth University is well worth its expensive price-tag.
What to do for fun Whitworth students enjoy nightly Prime Time activities in the dorms, exploring downtown Spokane, outdoor activities, getting frozen yogurt from one of the several local frozen yogurt restaurants, and lots more! Whitworth is a dry campus and students participate in good, clean fun. Some students attend alcohol-laden parties, but only a small percentage of students do and they are all off-campus.
Food and Dining While the food in Sodexho can get repetitive, they offer a wide variety of options. Sodexho offers vegetarian and other special-diet friendly foods, as well as the American grill classics. Health-conscious eaters have plenty of dining options as well. Whitworth also has a cafe with Mexican, Asian, and American food and several coffee shops/kiosks.
Dorm Life Each dorm at Whitworth is different and can please the most outgoing to introverted student. The Resident Assistants are wonderful and enthusiastically encourage the dorm's community. Hall dates and outings are common occurences at Whitworth...and are always a lot of fun!
Academic Rigor The academics at Whitworth are excellent and students must study diligently to succeed in their classes. The professors challenge their students and the students strive to do their best work.
Tips for prospective students Any student that is considering attending Whitworth University should stay overnight on campus with a current student! It is the best way to get a genuine feel for the campus and school.
In three sentences Whitworth University is wholeheartedly committed to its motto of providing an education of the mind and heart. The professors are devoted to encouraging their students to reach their fullest potential and to explore topics outside of their usual comfort zone. Whitworth's student body is welcoming, energetic, and on fire for Christ.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i know the campus security by name and talk with them nightly is they make their rounds through my dorm, i feel extremely safe on campus.
Bang for the buck whitworth is a private university, but the price is worth the academic merit.
What to do for fun there are nightly prime times that are run by ras and cultivate a community that is never sedentary. on top of these nightly activities are clubs, exercise classes, volunteer opportunities and dances.
Food and Dining it's a university cafeteria, enough said.
Dorm Life the community within the dorms is lively, safe and above all a complete blast!
Academic Rigor classes are challenging and fun while being taught by professors that have extensive life, career and academic experience.
Tips for prospective students take some time to look into the professor's qualifications. whitworth has some amazing academic minds that are beyond qualified and have extensive credentials and field experience. these are great contacts to have and amazing sources of information.
In three sentences whitworth university promotes a sense of community that is incomparable to any other i've seen or heard of. the student body is driven and diverse. and the faculty genuinely cares for the personal and academic growth of their students.

Categories Comments Campus Safety i always feel safe on campus and the security guys are very fun and friendly to students. i often run in the dark alone, or walk on campus by myself and don't feel worried at all. whitworth is in north spokane, so the campus is slightly isolated from the main bustle of downtown.
Greek Life none, the closest we come is the all girls dorm, ballard, and the all guys dorm, mcmillan.
Clubs and Activities there are countless clubs on campus and if there isn't a club that you want it is relatively easy to start one. there are also varsity division iii sports that are high-caliber and a great experience (i'm on the track team).
Great for these types of students any student to simply wants a quality education will thrive at whitworth, however, students who are christians will get the added benefits of an extremely supportive and challenging spiritual community. as long as you aren't afraid to have open discussions about any topic from christian and secular perspectives and you are willing to grow and help other grow, you will fit right in.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the most unusual tradition whitworth has is called traditiation. it is for freshman and first year transfer students at the beginning of the year as a sort of icebreaker and way to meet lots of people while having fun. traditiation consists of a mockrock, dorm chant contest, and wooing, as well as small quirky things that continue through the weekend. wooing is what it sounds like; boys from the dorms come around to the girls and sing to them, then the girls sing back and so forth. it is very cheesy and ridiculous, but enjoyable too.
Bang for the buck yes, whitworth is expensive, but it is worth every penny! (plus there is lots of financial aid available.) the tuition gets you a quality undergrad education that prepares you very well for either the workforce or grad school and life in general. the overall experience of whitworth is also very welcoming and positive and prospective students should consider the spiritual growth that they will undoubtedly experience while here also.
What to do for fun whitworth is in spokane, wa which is a great small city. there is lots of fun shops, thrift stores, and cafes downtown, as well as the beautiful riverside park. on campus there are intramurals year round and lots of impromptu frisbee games in the loop. primetime is also a great time killer in the evenings, and there are many club sponsored activities like movie nights, ski trips, and more.
Food and Dining whitworth has several options for food: the dining hall, the cafe, and then snacks at the various coffee shops around campus. the dining hall is fairly good, but like anything it gets old after a while. the cafe has a sub shop, mexican place, and grill which are all good too.
Dorm Life the dorms at whitworth are amazing! the communities formed between roommates, halls, and whole dorms are, for the most part, very close and caring. my favorite part of dorm life is the many activities that are offered; every night from 8 to 11pm there is primetime in the lounge that is a different fun activity like jam sessions or doodling. there are also lots of fun off campus dorm activities too.
Academic Rigor whitworth has very high academics and top-notch faculty that teach the classes. i am an engineering major and i have had to work very hard even in my first year to stay on top of my grades. the classes are challenging and integrate real world learning as well, and the professors are always helpful and available to help or answer questions.
Tips for prospective students don't be intimidated by the seemingly confusing registration process, housing forms, and required classes. if you have any questions don't hesitate to call or ask in person and people will be more than willing to help you out. also, the faculty here is great, so don't be afraid to call a department chair just to chat about your intended major or for some more information. finally, if you visit, be sure to visit dorms and see what dorm life is like too.
In three sentences whitworth is a great christian university that doesn't compromise its christ mission, while still having a vibrant, diverse community and high academics. the many opportunities for community, service, faith, and learning provide anyone with the options for success. christian and non-christians alike will feel welcome here and be challenged to ask tough questions and learn about other perspectives.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Small school students that want a great education and develop great friendships.
Tips for prospective students Apply and see what kind of money you can get. It is a great school, but might be expensive if you don't apply for scholarships.
Bang for the buck Financial aid was HUGE here and allowed me to go to a great school for an amazing price
Am enjoying being here I love it here. Its a small campus, but you are able to meet people and develop great friendships. The students and facility are all extremely kind and care about each other.
Am learning a lot The Science program here is one of the best in the Northwest and is very challenging but the teachers are very willing to help you learn. This will prepare you very well for graduate school.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Whitworth is ideal for students who are open-minded and willing to make a difference. The school offers plenty of opportunities for students to change the world around them, but they don't enforce them very often. There is a lot of leeway for students because the school wants everyone to think for themselves and make their own decisions and learn to take responsibility for their actions. Students who want to make a difference and actually care about others and their surroundings will really enjoy the institution.
Tips for prospective students Visit before you decide to attend. The school is really amazing, but make sure you like the campus and the size. It's quite small, but not too small that you wont keep meeting new people. Also, if you are opposed to pine trees, you probably won't like the campus.
Bang for the buck Despite paying an arm and a leg to attend, I have really enjoyed being here. The school offers a lot of scholarships and the people in the Career Center and the Financial Aid Office are very helpful if you are searching for more aid. Also, the quality of education and the closeness of everyone on campus makes the cost seem less terrible.
Am enjoying being here Whitworth is great! I love all the people and the administrators and professors are all really friendly, as are the other faculty members such as the janitors and those who work in the Health Center. Everyone wants to see you succeed and actually cares how you are doing. There are a lot of things to do in Spokane and the surrounding area, but there is also a lot of snow. At first, it's wonderful, but then after four or five months, it gets really old. However, the climate does not detract from how great the school is overall.
Am learning a lot The professors are very educated in their field of study and prove it in the classroom. They teach really well and if you need help they are more than willing to meet with you outside of class to assist you or just ask you how you are. I got the impression that everyone genuinely cares about your well being and will try their best to help you succeed.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Whitworth is a great school for those who wish to learn and have fun. The main three campus rules are no alcohol, no cohabitation, and no violence, so basically if you don't mind those, Whitworth is a great school. Also, Whitworth is a Christian university and all professors are members of one denomination or another, but they do not push their values in any way and, if anything their Christian values contribute to the great environment.
Tips for prospective students Come visit. Tours of campus are given every Friday and it is fairly simple to arrange for one on any other day. It is also common for prospective students to sit in on actual classes and I would highly recommend doing so if possible. As with any other school you are looking at, be sure to ask any questions you might have.
Bang for the buck As a private university, the base tuition price is fairly high, but they are very generous and will work with you to find more options if needed. The quality of the classes and the friendliness of pretty much everyone there make up for the price.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, the people are very nice, and the food is pretty good as well. It is very common for professors and students to develop personal relationships and very easy to get involved with clubs and other activities on campus.
Am learning a lot The professors really do a great job at imparting knowledge to their students. The course material is challenging, but not overwhelming and the professors are very open for questions outside of class. Class sizes are also quite small allowing for an even more personal learning experience.

Categories Comments Campus Safety absolutely always feel safe here. if there is any concern, 24-hour campus security is always just one call away. not to mention your many dorm-mates who are always just a knock-on-the-door away.
Clubs and Activities there is something for anyone and everyone.
Great for these types of students -looking for a great education -lifelong friends -personal growth -anyone
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus many secrets.... but you have to get through traditiation week (most fun week of your life) to learn them. you won't regret it!
Bang for the buck you will get more out of whitworth than just an education. the classes are great. people here are the best!
What to do for fun anything and everything. you never know what people will come up with. just be open for new and fun ideas!
Food and Dining pretty decent food; however, for the price, not the best. dining area is being remodeled this year, and it sounds like it will be fantastic! i can't wait to see the expansion finished!
Dorm Life absolutely the best decision i have ever made was living in a dorm. i lived in baldwin jenkins as a freshman. coming from spokane i considered not living on campus, but looking back i am so glad i chose to live on campus in a dorm. the people you meet in the dorm will become your closest friends over the years. not only that, but studying for core tests, and other classes in general is always more fun in groups. need anything just go next door; and you always have a support system. baldwin jenkins is definitely the dorm i'd recommend to incoming freshman!
Academic Rigor it is not easy, but it is not impossible. take your time outside of class to learn the material thoroughly.
Tips for prospective students -take time to meet new people; coming from spokane i thought i didn't need to make any new friends, but half way through the year i learned that old friends don't always stay the same. -use your fellow students as a support system. they take many of the same classes, and are always willing to help with homework and homesickness. -be open to peoples' views, even if they aren't the same as your own. -at the same time, be yourself. people are more mature in college, not to say they aren't crazy and weird, but they respect and appreciate your uniqueness. express yourself; don't be who you think others want you to be; be who you want to be.
In three sentences whitworth is the perfect school for anyone looking for a well-balanced education based on more than just your brain; we learn to strengthen our brains, spirits, and hearts. at whitworth every student gains personal relationships with their professors which allows them to better connect and learn better. not only are the student-professor relationships great, but student-student relationships here become the strongest you've ever had; we are all there for each other no matter what.

Categories Comments Food and Dining it is not your mom's cooking anymore and you will just have to get used to that, after all you are going to college now. there are few options on campus for food, just saga(cafeteria) or the cafe.
Dorm Life the focus of the dorms are to build community. it is hard to find people on campus that you do not like. most dorms on campus are co-ed except for mcmillian, ballard, and cornerstone, with boys and girls floors.
Academic Rigor not going to lie it is a tough school.
Tips for prospective students find scholarship money early! it is a very expensive school but the community and the knowledge to be gained is worth it.
In three sentences whitworth university is a phenomenal school. i was worried going in without any friends at the school but the community is so awesome i was making friends before i knew it. whitworth is a great place if you are looking for a school with christian influence but also is open to changing ideas.

Categories Comments Campus Safety I have always felt very safe on campus. I see Whitworth security driving around and at different activities on a regular basis. They have also recently installed the Blue Light Towers in case there is any trouble.
Greek Life There is no Greek Life at Whitworth.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs that you can get involved in all throughout the year! There is also a great system that if there is a club that you want that is not currently running you and few friends can start it! The clubs and activities is thriving at Whitworth.
Great for these types of students The type of students that have an open mind and are willing to be around people with different views and be open to sharing and hearing about them! This is also a great environment for Christians but with it not being required to be Christian is also a great place for nonbelievers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every dorm has their own traditions that in your first week of school you participate in. This is called Traditiation and is a great way to connect with the leaders and members of your dorm!
Bang for the buck Whitworth is on the more expensive sides for Universities but I know I will never regret it! I love the decision I made with choosing Whitworth and know I would not be as happy anywhere else!
What to do for fun There are many things to do for fun! Every night there is an event called PrimeTime in each individual dorm. This is a time to do something fun and crazy or sometimes relaxing and to take a break from studying. With one going on in each dorm that leaves many choices! There is also a lot of fun activities in Spokane if you have access to a car.
Food and Dining The food could be better than it is. I feel that we pay quite a lot of money and in that we could have better meals. With that said, it is better than the food we had for lunch in high school and is better than hospital cafeterias I have been to.
Dorm Life I have loved the community that has become more like a family that I have had at Whitworth. I made friends very easily and found that most people are outgoing and everyone wants to meet new people!
Academic Rigor Whitworth is challenging and wants to see that you will work for what you want in life. It is a great stepping stone from college to adulthood while still having a support system to help you when you need it.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus and do an overnight stay with one of the students. That was a great learning experience for me and helped me with my decision on Whitworth.
In three sentences Whitworth is a wonderful environment for Christian students. The entire faculty and staff cares about your education and is willing to help in any way they can. I would recommend Whitworth to any student interested in expanding their horizons in a Christian atmosphere.

Categories Comments Campus Safety campus security patrols 24/7 and all of the residence buildings need a key card to enter.
Greek Life there is no greek community at whitworth.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the first week of school for new students and transfers is known as camp whitworth, get ready for the time of your life!
Bang for the buck while whitworth is a very expensive school, i believe that it is a very good investment for my future.
What to do for fun each dorm hosts at least one dance/function throughout the year, providing a lot of fun. there are concerts, performances, or special speakers at least once a week. football, basketball, soccer and volleyball always draw a large crowd.
Food and Dining currently whitworth has an amazing coffee shop, a cafe, the main dining hall, a coffee stand in the new science building, and a snack shop in weyerhaeuser hall. flex dollars which are part of your meal plan can be used at any of these locations. next year the addition to the hub will be finished and the food options will be expanded.
Dorm Life dorm life is absolutely amazing. every night there is something called primetime from 8-11 where people can hang out and participate in that nights activity. some fun ones include finger painting, puppies and kittens night, and mask making.
Academic Rigor the classes you take and the major you are working towards determines how rigorous your classes are. i am a science major and i take classes that take a lot of time out of the classroom. i also know people who barely ever have homework and seem to never study.
Tips for prospective students whitworth is a small private university with a strong sense of community and fellowship. if you want to be an anonymous body at college, whitworth is not the school for you.
In three sentences whitworth is an awesome university with a great community. the classes are on the smaller side and very personal. professors make a special effort to get to know their students and help them succeed even after graduation.

Academic Rigor Haven't gone here yet, but has great statistics.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students Christian students who are politically-minded and don't mind a more rural setting.
Bang for the buck Whitworth is very expensive. Even though they gave me the biggest initial academic scholarship (they go up to 19,000 a year), it was still the most expensive school to attend.
What to do for fun Whitworth has a community outside it, but it is quite a drive from downtown Spokane. In between, there is a power plant and a lot of power lines, which kind of ruins the potential beauty of the drive.
Food and Dining The food in the dining hall was okay, but I wasn't impressed. There wasn't a whole lot of variety.
Dorm Life The people attending Whitworth were very nice and friendly, and there are a lot of things to do around campus. Once a week, they have different activities in the different dorms, which was really pretty cool. The dorms themselves are pretty beautiful.
Academic Rigor I went to the Full Ride Scholarship competition, and the school seemed very politically-minded, which isn't for me. The nursing program has something strange where you have to transfer halfway through, which made my decision not to go here.

Categories Comments What to do for fun There is always something going on within the campus, and there is tons to do within Spokane itself. You can see a movie, go bowling, go lazer tagging, and much, much more!
Food and Dining They have tons of options for food and are just now expanding and getting more. When you use your mean card to go in its unlimited and you can get as much as you want! the variety is great and never gets old!
Dorm Life the dorms there are amazing and everyone in them is friendly. The people you are surrounded by are all very supportive and nice, I would live there as long as I could!
Academic Rigor The classes are all very personal and the teachers are amazing. The workload is a fair amount but they do a good job preparing you for the real world!
Tips for prospective students If you're looking for a small private school with a great education and also lots to do Whitworth is the place for you!
In three sentences Whitworth seemed to me like a great place to be the next four years of my life. The campus is amazing and the feel I got while I was there was unlike anywhere else. Spokane is awesome too!

Categories Comments Campus Safety Any time you feel your security may be threatened on campus, feel free to call security, and they will fix it to the best of their ability.
Greek Life Whitworth has no Greek life.
Clubs and Activities The programs and clubs are great!
Great for these types of students Everyone is welcome at Whitworth, and there is often a program or event that is perfect for every type of personality.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Traditiation, Yell-Off, and Woo-ing, and Mock-Rock. You will understand once you get there.
Bang for the buck Whitworth has a very high tuition rate, but the rewards the students reap from it pays back over quite a bit.
What to do for fun Trips out to frozen yogurt are always a great idea, as are trips out on hall dates with other halls from your dorm. Spokane has a vast array of restaurants and shops that students can escape to, and it's fun to get out and explore!
Food and Dining There are many healthy food options that are offered to the students. Often it is up to the student to form their own opinion of the food offered at this school.
Dorm Life The dorms at Whitworth are mostly coed, and are the centers of the student universe. The community aspect that is promoted on campus is cultivated majorly in the dorms. The staff of residence assistants and resident directors are all phenomenal, and are guaranteed to be there for those in need of help.
Academic Rigor There are classes that wills stump even the most successful and brilliant of students. Many of the courses are required for all majors and fields, and are challenging in their own ways. There are also courses offered that are placed in the curriculum for students needing credits who are not majors; the classes are generally on the easier side to help accommodate the non-majors.
Tips for prospective students Don't let the promise of academic challenges and new experiences scare you; Whitworth challenges each and every one of its students to question and expand their worldviews, through social and academic learning opportunities.
In three sentences Encouraging student fellowship and community. Strong academic relationships that are beneficial to your future. A welcoming school for all who attend.

Categories Comments What to do for fun Spokane is a wonderful town with much to do. Sports, the outdoors, theater, and music are plentiful. The jazz scene is my favorite.
Food and Dining The student food service is good. The Chef is talented and competes nationally to perfect his skills.
Academic Rigor The Professor's expect a lot but they offer assistance and encouragement. You will get what you give in your college experience. Enjoy the time and work hard.
Tips for prospective students Ask upper classmen what works or did not work for them at school. Listen carefully to what they had to learn the hard way. Do not try to reinvent the wheel. Budget your time, energy, and dollars wisely.
In three sentences A good learning environment for the committed student. Intensive, accelerated classes in an enriching atmosphere. A rewarding experience for me, as I reach my goal of a Bachelor's degree.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There are tons of clubs for everyone, and there's no limit to how many you can join. You can also create your own club.
What to do for fun Go downtown and spend time in Riverfront Park, or go see a movie at the many theaters around town. There are plenty of shops, and the Northtown Mall on Division street near campus has tons of great shops. My favorite places to go in Northtown are Bumpers (the arcade), the Regal Cinemas, Boba Bubble, Barnes and Noble, and The Comic Book Shop.
Food and Dining There are plenty of restaurants and fast food places near campus, as well as the cafes, snack bar, and cafeteria. The cafeteria in the HUB has typical SODEXO food which isn't particularly delicious, but the Cafe in the HUB has a few choices of Subway type subs and a grill and such which are pretty good but a little spendy.
Dorm Life I live off-campus, but I wish that I could afford to live on-campus. I've heard so many great things, and there are so many different kinds of dorms from large co-ed, to small apartment style co-ed. Each dorm has their own cultures and traditions...it makes me jealous. :)
Academic Rigor The classes have plenty of assignments that can be challenging as well as rewarding. While the work can sometimes be particularly tough or time-consuming, if you manage your time well, all of it will get done.
Tips for prospective students Look into work study, this is a great option, and can be a great help financially. There are plenty of work study jobs on and off campus, as well as internships. Be sure to look into both!
In three sentences The faculty is wonderful, and always willing to help all of their students. All majors have great resources and facilities. The students are kind, intelligent, respectful, and welcoming.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Lots of security, but not too much. Whitworth is located around Downtown Spokane, but students call the campus a Pinecone Curtain, as we don't really get trouble on campus. If there is, then Whitworth security is there asap to let everyone know what the problem is.
Greek Life No Greek life. There's one all-girls dorm, and one all-guys dorm on-campus. The closest you get to Greek life are the Theme houses located around the outside perimeter of campus. (all other dorms are co-ed by alternating floors/halls). Required to live on-campus first two years (if you are a freshman).
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and activities to choose from! They usually have a list on the school's website. They'll also have an open house kind of thing for you to look into and get information from the various clubs and activities on and off campus during the first couple of days at Whitworth (after traditiation).
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As an incoming freshman (or transfer) you arrive on campus a few days before classes start and go through what we call Traditiation. I can't tell you much, because it's different depending on which dorm you become a part of.
What to do for fun Stop by Didier's Frozen Yogurt shop, just about a block from campus. Or even go off with your friends to Froyo Earth! Also, enjoy the sports (both intramural and the actual Whitworth Team games) that happen on-campus. Dances happen every once in a while, put on by Dorms, Clubs, and ASWU.
Food and Dining Buffet Style! Oh, and they just remodeled, so it'll be bigger this up-coming year (2012-13), with some more options and seating arrangements. Not like state schools, but Whitworth does prefer to offer healthy choices that are absolutely delicious! Outside of the cafeteria, there's also the Mind and Hearth Cafe, and the Coffee shop too!
Dorm Life Lots of activities to do inside the dorms, put on by fellow dorm mates, RA's (resident assistants) and the RD (resident director). So don't just sit in your room and study all the time when you're not in class. Have a bit of fun too!
Academic Rigor Whitworth is on a Semester system, with a January-term in-between. During the regular semesters you study more of your major than anything else, and then when Jan-term comes around, you get a chance to study something other than your major (or get gen-eds out of the way). All classes are built to give everyone a challenge, but also to have a bit of fun too. If a class looks interesting to you, but it's not required by gen-eds or your major, take it anyway if it fits into your schedule! You never know if you may have found a minor or another major to study.
Tips for prospective students Take every opportunity you're interested in that Whitworth offers (if you can), and even if you feel that you might not qualify for coming to Whitworth (in terms of grades, finances, and/or SAT/ACT scores), just go for it! If you have a gift to bring, Whitworth will find a place for you in it's growing family.
In three sentences Whitworth University is dedicated to giving plenty of opportunities to current and incoming students both on-campus and off. Classes are challenging and interesting, even the ones outside of your intended major! It really is a University dedicated to an Education of Mind and Heart.

Tips for prospective students Take in as much learning as you can. The teachers and office personnel are always willing to help if you just ask.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Whitworth is such a safe campus. Whitworth is a small campus in Northern Spokane, a good distance from any nightlife. You can't go anywhere without seeing a security vehicle driving around, and they're only a call away!
Greek Life Whitworth does not have Greek Life on campus, however, freshmen go through Traditiation with their dorms. There are a bunch of fun things for you to bond with your dorm, especially your respected gender, and create a brotherhood and sisterhood with them.
Clubs and Activities ASWU emails every student with opportunities for Activities, plays, concerts, movies, and more. I get at least 3 or 4 emails a day inviting me to attend some sort of activity. Also at the beginning of the year, there is a club fair where everyone can sign up for a bunch of clubs and get involved.
Great for these types of students Whitworth is great for students who want an education of mind AND heart, where not only are your academics challenging, but your worldviews are challeged. Also, Whitworth is great for students who don't want to get caught up in the party scene, and for students who are or are not Christians, but desire a great education.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There are three things every student wants to accomplish before they graduate from Whitworth: catch a virgin pinecone (catch a pinecone falling from a tree), drop a plate in the dining hall on accident (everyone will clap for you), and get hit by a frisbee.
Bang for the buck Whitworth is worth the money. I am surrounded by positive people want me to succeed and I am in an environment where I can grow in academics and faith. There are so many opportunities to get involved and meet people.
What to do for fun Many people go to Didier's for frozen yogurt, or go downtown to Riverfront Park, or go ice skating. Spokane has a variety of things to do throughout the city. However, on campus, there is less of a variety, but many people play Ultimate Frisbee, go to the gym, go to the coffee shop, make cookies, go to plays or concerts, or attend an event that the leadership team holds, like concerts or movie nights.
Food and Dining There is one main dining area at Whitworth, which doesn't allow for much variety, but the food is all fresh and quality. On the weekends there is even less to choose from. The people who work in dining services make everyone's day!
Dorm Life Whitworth dorms host a unique event every night in each dorm called Prime Time; a time to play games and bond with other residents. Additionally, the Resident Assistants plan hall dates and hall hang-out times. Many halls decorate for Christmas or go out to Ice Cream often.
Academic Rigor Depending on your class load, academic rigor varies; some classes are very difficult while others are easy. However, the average class size is 30 students which allow for close relationships with your professors. Additionally, there are so many opportunities for support; our Teaching Assistants or Professors hold study sessions before exams outside of class to help us succeed, Whitworth has a great Writing Lab, and there are tutors available for many subjects.
Tips for prospective students Private Schools give a lot of financial aid and scholarships if you do it right. Study for your SAT and ACT and take them multiple times, and apply for the FAFSA as soon as you can! Visit the campus, for this school and others; once you meet people and see where you may live, you'll fall in love!
In three sentences Whitworth has a beautiful campus, friendly faculty, and a wonderful, Christian environment. My professors honestly want to know how I am doing and want to help me succeed. Whitworth is a safe place to explore your interests and grow in who you are!

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus safety for being on the outskirts of a big city, is fantastic. I always feel safe and they are always willing to give you a jump when your car can't take the cold weather and they might even come in your dorm and watch a movie with you for a few moments.
Greek Life We don't have any Greek Life.
Clubs and Activities To get involved just e-mail everyone and everyone has a club they could share with you. Just go and then read your e-mail. There is always fun stuff to do at Whitworth!
Great for these types of students Every type of student is welcome and loved and needed at Whitworth.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Just stay away from the men's dorm after 11:45 pm on most nights and Shirts off o'clock is every night at 11 in Stewart. Also, go to the village because they will tell you that the Village is a horrible place but only the few who venture inside will ever truly have fun at Whitworth!
Bang for the buck Whitworth is a lot of money at first glace but with financial aid and scholarships, Whitworth has a very manageable school tuition. Whitworth when you compare class sizes and the academic rigor and how much it means to employers that you went to Whitworth, it is completely worth the cost.
What to do for fun There is so much to do for fun! Almost every night dorms are doing something or a club is hosting something or a department may be having a party! Prime-time is a great time to get to know your dorm mates and get plugged in. Also, going to the amazing productions the theater department puts on and seeing Cool-Whip is a true delight.
Food and Dining This is where Whitworth lacks a little bit. However, Sudexo (our food company) is always striving to improve our food and sustainability. The sandwich bar is fantastic and is often a safe place to get food. There are also a couple places to use flex dollars, that are actually quite good and have delicious muffins. If you hate all that, go to the Petite Chat down the road!
Dorm Life There is so much to do at Whitworth. Everyone in the dorms are super nice! The RAs and RDs are super fantastic people and we have a thing called prime time from 8pm-11pm when the dorm RAs create games or something fun to do for everyone. It is the best time and everyone is very considerate of those who are studying.
Academic Rigor Whitworth is an extremely competitive school when it comes to academics. You will get challenged every time you walk into a class room. Although, the Whitworth professors are always willing to help students improve and feel good so students don't crumble under pressure!
Tips for prospective students Don't expect to be able to do well here by doing your half-best, because the best of the best go to Whitworth. Also, have a little fun because there is always supposed to be a balance between academics and real life.
In three sentences Whitworth University is a very welcoming and feels a lot like home. Whitworth is a place where you can really expand your knowledge and be challenged everyday. Whitworth is also a very fun place to be and Spokane is a great city.

Categories Comments Clubs and Activities There is something for everyone
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Whitworth has it's Big Three rules, but the students have their own set of traditions they like to call the Little Three. They are: 1) Catch a virgin pinecone (one that falls but doesn't hit the ground), 2) Get hit by a frisbee, and 3) drop and break a dish in the cafeteria.
Bang for the buck While Whitworth can be a little pricey, the advantages of going to a private school are worth it. Your classes are small enough that your professors know you, and your professors are always available to help you or just to talk. You know they care about you, and that isn't something you'll find at a public university.
Food and Dining There are a lot of choices for meals, but over the weekend half of the food stations are closed.
Dorm Life All the dorms have very strong communities and good leadership. They can be a little loud, but that's to be expected with dorm life.
Academic Rigor The professors push you to be excellent students. But they also make themselves available to help you, and you can tell they want you to do well.
Tips for prospective students Attend one of the Why Whitworth days, and stay overnight in the dorms. Also make sure you attend a class or two, preferably one in the major you're considering.

Categories Comments Campus Safety The campus is very safe and just recently they installed these blue lights around the campus that have buttons for you to push if there's an emergency going on.
Greek Life There is no greek life but when your a freshmen they have something called traditiation and its basically like rushing for a fraternity or sorority. Its done by the dorm you live in and it's so much fun but crazy at the same time.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Before you graduate you have to (1) catch a virgin pinecone, (2) break a plate in saga, (3) and get hit in the head with a frisbee. It's funny to see everybody in the cafeteria stand and applaud for someone who accidentally dropped their plate.
Bang for the buck I would defiantly say whitworth gives you a good bang for your buck. I love everything about it.
What to do for fun The campus is sends out an email everyday about activities going on so that's a plus. My friends have cars so we go out on the weekends and explore downtown spokane.
Food and Dining The cafeteria is beautiful and was just renovated so it's nice and spacious. The food however isn't a 5 star restaurant, it's better than high school food at the very least to say. I love that our school uses swipes because that way you pay for a full meal but can eat anything you want and however much you want without having to pay more.
Dorm Life I love my dorm because it provides me with a private bathroom, an AC, and a heater. The community is great and Whitworth does a fantastic job in providing descriptions on their housing page about all of the dorms and what they have.
Academic Rigor I am familiar with the biology program because it's where I intend to major and I love thats it's challenging but that I also learn a lot of fascinating things. The professors are great at providing resources and answers to questions students have.
Tips for prospective students Keep your grades up in high school and participate in extra curricular activities. The school wants you to be a well rounded person as well as an excellent student.
In three sentences I am extremely fortunate, in the fact that I have come to love my school and make it a second home for me. I know students who don't feel that way and I'm glad that I'm enjoying my professors and community. The only cons of coming to Whitworth would be the money factor, in my opinion, but I love that they provide state of the art technology and that's important for my.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are always ways to contact security and we even have blue security lights around campus.
Greek Life There is no greek life, however there aretheme houses that are just as fun. They range from sports themes to harry potter and cookies themes.
Clubs and Activities There are so many clubs to choose from and they all are quite impressive, from Hawaiian club to jazz. There is so much to do.
Great for these types of students Great for Christian students and students who want advancememt in their academic career.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is the little three. Ring by spring, catch a falling pinecone and drop a plate in sodexo!
Bang for the buck Although Whitworth is a great campus with excellent academics, the price is expensice. Measurimg to more than $45, 000 a year, it may not be the best choice.
What to do for fun There are primetimes every night at 8pm. There are also a lot of concerts; we had one with Matt Kearney at the beginning of the year. There are also plenty of dances and other activities.
Food and Dining There is a lot of variety. However, the food can be bland and sometimes tasteless. This said, it does aid vegetarians and vegans, so don't feel left out if you are one!
Dorm Life Since the campus is small, each dorm is like its own community. Everyone gets to know one another at primetime, the dorm activities every night at 8pm. But don't be afraid to venture out, it can get a little tiresome being in the same place a lot.
Academic Rigor Certain classes are incredibly easy and some incredibly difficult, but it all depends on your area of interest. If you study it shouldn't be difficult. Also don't be afraid of your professors, they are there to help!
Tips for prospective students Study hard, and don't get caught up in the social life too much that you forget school. Be aware of your schedule, time does go by fast. Don't be afraid to ask questions, thats what the professors are there for, to answer questions and teach.
In three sentences Whitworth is a family community. Students are engaged a lot, whether it be in prime times or school functions. Whitworth is a small campus that thrives on educating each student on a personal level.

Food and Dining There have been a lot of changes in the dining areas, there is a little bit of everything. They work with students who have allergies or strict diets due to medical reasons.
Dorm Life This is the full Whitworth experience! There are so many amazing people and there is a dorm choice for every personality. The group of individuals who works in the housing office are wonderful at pairing roommates and making the transition as seamless as possible. There are dorm activities every night if you choose to participate, but most students are respectful of others need to study during quite times.
Academic Rigor The professors genuinely CARE about you and your success. They are not just there because they are obligated to be there, they want to be there and they want to share their love of their subject and see you grow. The classes are interesting and very engaging, there is something for everyone!
