Categories Comments Great for these types of students This liberal arts university is great for any type of students in my opinion.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to become a very active in activities and clubs and also make sure to remember that school always comes first before anything else. Very important.
Bang for the buck The tuition is not as bad as i thought it would have been (10,000 a year) comparing to many of the other Universities/colleges. My friends are paying about 30,000 - 50,000 a year for the same exact classes and education.
Am enjoying being here Great community. Everyone is friendly you wont ever feel left out. if you are a commuter like myself you will always find something to do on campus. I love it here.
Am learning a lot William Paterson University offers an education of tremendous value in a learning community that is committed to providing academic excellence.

Bang for the buck I'm really satisfied with the fees. I get financial aid and it covered everything, from tuition fees to books.
Am enjoying being here I'm really glad I came here. Every people here are very helpful and friendly. They make it easier for first year students, such as myself to accustom with the college environment. Really enjoying it very much.
Am learning a lot My first semester here and I already know more things than my older sister who is a junior in a different college. I amaze my family by giving them advise on subjects that they never thought I would know.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students teaching, nursing, business majors
Tips for prospective students Definitely visit the school first to see if you really like it. And if you have to take the math placement test STUDY for it!
Bang for the buck Considering most schools are around $30,000-50,000, paying only about $11,000 a year is a great deal.
Am enjoying being here I commute 45 minutes each way. That takes a little away from the enjoyability. Residents seem to enjoy it a lot more.
Am learning a lot I've only taken one semester of classes so far, but I haven't felt as though I'm learning as much as I should be.

Will learn a lot I went to the open house and learned a lot about what it has to offer and i am actually excited to learn!

Categories Comments Tips for prospective students Just be aware that there are a lot of commuters so the community feel isn't what it would be at a school where there are more people that live on campus. Make use of your advisers and your resident directors, they are there to help and DO want you to do well.
Bang for the buck As an out of states student, I'm paying more that some of my peers. But I'm not that unhappy with the value of the school.
Am enjoying being here There is a huge party atmosphere here, and the oddity is someone that doesn't smoke pot or cigarettes.
Am learning a lot I'm really happy with my teachers for the most part. I find that they are available to help and the advisers have been really helpful to me.

Categories Comments Great for these types of students It is great for students that want to be a biology major because they have an amazing biology department.
Tips for prospective students First off this school when it comes to those who want to live on campus, try to get into the high mountains, because the overlook buildings are not the best. Also it is a really big commuter school so there is not too much to do on the weekends.
Bang for the buck It is a great school and they provide really great programs. The school is not all that expensive compared to others, and it does helps teach the same if not better then some even more expensive schools.
Am enjoying being here Freshman year is a year to get used to college life, but they gave me 5 classes, 2 of which required labs, so i could not take i break. I was constantly studying and barely slept since i was not used to my new environment yet, and its hard getting used to something that you are bombarded with.
Am learning a lot This school has some great teachers and I learned a lot. My only concern is that my schedule for my freshman year was really hard.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the police are always riding around campus. there is safety patrol who walks around until around 1am. there is safe ride, which is a shuttle service that rides around campus to take students to their dorms at late hours. this is a very safe and protected campus.
Clubs and Activities most activities happen during common hour.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus common hour is tuesdays and thursdays, which is 2 hours out of the day to just chill and hang out on campus. there's no classes for these two hours (12pm-2pm).
Bang for the buck not too expensive like other schools.
What to do for fun there's many activities to do on campus. there's two gym areas. there's different clubs and groups you could join. there's usually shows going on in the performing arts center. there's usually always something going on on campus.
Food and Dining the dinning hall wayne hall, has its good day and bad days. the best option there is the breakfast which is served all day. the downside to the dinning hall is it closes at 7pm. there is a food court that has sbarro, burger king, asian express, and quiznos.
Dorm Life all of the dorms are pretty decent. the rooms are organized into suites, which means you and your roomate would share a bathroom with two other people. the dorms are also co-ed. if your 21 and over there separate buildings for you to stay in with different rules.
Academic Rigor with any major there comes difficulties. be prepared to work hard for your grades. make sure you keep in contact with your advisor. they are definitely a big help.
Tips for prospective students try to do your best on the sat's. if your a.commuter, plan on leaving home early to find parking. if you can, it would probably be easier to stay on campus.
In three sentences william paterson university is a great school to go to. there are many academic majors to choose, from fine arts to business. the atmosphere is comforting and relaxing.

Categories Comments Campus Safety the campus is very safe, but as with any campus, it is always better to walk with a group if you are going out a night. university police are always available and respond to problems quickly, and there is a student patrol group that walks around at night, goes in the dorms and has direct communication with the police if anything should happen. if you live on campus, there is someone sitting at the front desk 24 hours a day to verify students id cards and sign guests in.
Clubs and Activities this depends on the person and how far you are willing to go to get involved in university clubs and activities. there are many clubs that cater to various majors, cultures, and interests. it can be difficult finding out about events on campus as the only system that seems to be used are paper flyers (hence, if you don't see a flyer for a particular event or you overlook something, you will miss out on a lot of things going on). joining a club is the best way to get involved because they all have their own programs and events, so you are more likely to be included that way and aware of what is going on. this is the type of campus where you need to get involved or you will miss out; go to the campus activities office in the student center third floor to find out about types of clubs and get into contact with officers about meeting dates and times.
Bang for the buck you will get a great education for a fraction of what other universities cost. if you study hard, utilize the resources available to you (especially the library) and make an effort, you will learn and do very well here.
Food and Dining the dining hall food is not great; the student center has some better options but none that are particularly healthy. when you sign up for a meal plan you get a certain amount pioneer express dollars loaded on your student id card (depending on the meal plan you select), and many off campus dining locations accept it. you can add money to it throughout the semester park wayne diner on hamburg turnpike has excellent food and good prices for the amount and quality.
Dorm Life i am a resident student, and the only complaint i have about this university is that there really is not much dorm life. it is a commuter school, and those who do live on campus often go home on the weekends. there are some good local places to eat in the area and two bars/clubs once you become of age, but university programming on the weekends is lacking tremendously.
Academic Rigor what is difficult and what is not is very subjective and different for every student. i find my courses to be difficult and very reading and writing intensive (majors in the humanities tend to be that way). if you fall behind you will be in trouble no matter what. certain majors such as nursing, biology, and communication disorders tend to be extremely rigorous from what i have heard, but nonetheless excellent programs.
Tips for prospective students keep your priorities straight; the type of work you will have varies depending on your major. if you keep your grades up you have the opportunity to apply and receive scholarships each year. don't procrastinate especially with upper level courses. finally, ask questions in class and be an active learner; a lot of the time professors present information to you, but you have to be the one to synthesize it, understand it, and learn something.
In three sentences william paterson provides an excellent, well rounded education for the price. the professors are extremely knowledgable in their fields, and most classes are small enough so you can get personalized attention from them. i cannot speak on the rigor of general education courses because i did not take them there, but courses in my major (spanish, english lit, latin american studies) were challenging and i have learned a lot.

Categories Comments Campus Safety we have our own campus police as well as local police around the campus. also, you can sign up with the william paterson emergency notification system which will inform you about anything that is going on right away.
Greek Life it exists; however, i don't know much about it yet. i have just received an email to join them by the end of february, so i will know more afterwards.
Clubs and Activities there is a club for everyone and if you don't find one that you like, you can create one yourself. i am in the sife club which is outstanding because it lets you network with many business people while doing good things for the community.
Great for these types of students the school is perfect for everyone. we have a completly new sience center, the music depatment is also amazing, and the business school which is on a seperate campus (only 10min away from the main campus) is build like a corporate center. also, we have a sales major which hardly no school has that allows you to get filmed while conducting a sales meeting; therefore, you can see yourself afterwards and learn from your mistakes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus one of our buildings is hunted by a ghost.
Bang for the buck over all, i am very glad that i joined this school because i feel like i really am going to be prepared for the professional life after school. lots of our teachers have been working in their field for many years and can therefore give us many real life examples of the things we are studying.
What to do for fun we have an arcade right on campus which allows you do have lots of fun with your friends. also, we have a gym, a theater, and a short commute to new york city.
Food and Dining there is a lot of options for food on campus as well as around the campus. on the main campus we have a sushi place, a burger king, chinese food, and many more options. also, with your student id you can buy food from other places around town with a student discount.
Dorm Life since i am a commuter student i cannot say anything about it; however, some of my friends live in the dorms and they are happy with it. there is a shuttle bus that takes the students between the two campuses which makes it very convenient.
Academic Rigor the business schools is aacsb accredited which is recognized all over the world. only about 15% of schools in the world have this high standart of academic achievement.
Tips for prospective students i would definitely recommend this school because it is awesome. you have the opportunity to speak to people from all over the world. if you encounter any problems, the school has a great counseling center as well as a health and wellness center right on campus.
In three sentences it is an exquisite business school which provided me with great opportunities for my future. the teachers are very helpful if you are a serious student. they have professional enrichment classes which will help you prepare for the real world.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus is really safe. I feel very comfortable on campus.
Greek Life Greek Life here on campus is awesome. There pretty big on this campus. There are a lot of organizations to choose from and they do a great deal on campus :)
Clubs and Activities There are a large amount of clubs and activities. Too many for me to name :)
Great for these types of students If you're the type of student who stays on weekends, campus activities have activities for students who are on campus when the everyones gone home.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus My friends and I always eat at Brother Bruno's on Friday nights to celebrate the weekend.
Bang for the buck Its expensive since tuition went up last year. But it's a decent price compared to a lot of other schools.
What to do for fun There are many activities, school events, and common hour activity.
Food and Dining The food on this campus is decent. But when you're here long enough, you get too used to the food and then you might start to complain. But it's normal.
Dorm Life Dorm Life is pretty decent here at this University. The towers (Overlook North and South) are dorms for the freshman and the transfers. There's Hillside&WhiteHall. High Mountain East and West for Honors Students. Matelson and the Apartments(Uptop) are for older students that are allowed to live there because of a certain age. Also, there's Century which is the furthest dorm. Hillside and Century reside in heavily wooded area's.
Academic Rigor Study when you feel the need to and always do what you feel is right. Go with your gut feeling and strive for your goal.
Tips for prospective students 1. Don't be nervous 2. Be yourself 3. Get involved in whatever interests you 4. Avoid being uptop your Freshman year 5. Work on campus if able to 6. Make friends who share a common interest with you 7. Know who you are, Be an individual 8. Remember, You're Great. People will like you
In three sentences William Paterson University can be a whole lot of things rolled into one, like one decent sized burrito. The campus is not huge, meaning you can walk from class to class, minus Valley Road, but it isnt as small as a dot either, considering the traveling WPU shuttles, bridge and entry gates. The perfect way to describe William Paterson University is a community where everyone knows everyone else.

Categories Comments Campus Safety they're everywhere. all the time.
Greek Life greek life is active and alive on campus. there is a good balance. it is strong enough to have a presence, but not strong enough to feel pressured into joining.
Clubs and Activities there are a lot of clubs on campus, as well as a school website that keeps track of all the clubs you've joined.
Great for these types of students if you like diversity, you've come to the right place. probably the one place that will show you how all walks of people can come together and learn harmoniously.
Bang for the buck way cheaper than most schools in nj. if you were a good student in high school, expects tons of scholarships coming your way as well.
Food and Dining sodexho provides the food. enough said. but there is a food court that is always a good alternative to the routine at the dining hall. the food court has burger king and sbarro, to a name a few. there's also a campus restaurant if you feel like getting a little fancy.
Academic Rigor depending on your major, work can be tough. though, wpunj is a tad bit easier than most other schools in nj. regardless, you should know what your signing up for if you're majoring in biology, for example.
Tips for prospective students get as much college credits as you can in high school--ap credits, community college credit, etc. you can start off college with some credits in hand and be able to start core classes for your major earlier. plus, this leaves more space and time for a minor or second major, which will always look good on your resume when you graduate.
In three sentences wpunj is probably the best bang for your buck. it truly is the university in your backyard. a great place to start your college career.

Categories Comments Campus Safety you will always be safe, student patrol walks around at night along with 24/7 wayne township police on campus for help.
Clubs and Activities so many clubs, great for science majors especially.
What to do for fun events such as comedy shows, nature trails, sports (tennis, basketball, soccer, football etc), hang out with friends, and just enjoy the outdoors.
Food and Dining food is great. there is food for everyone, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. tuesday is the special dinner which is nice. there is so many varieties to choose from.
Dorm Life dorm life is amazing. much more things to do at wpu then at home. you get to meet new people, study in groups, and do recreational sports in the rec. center. you will never get bored here with the endless events, and field trips you can attend.
Academic Rigor if you put in work, you get good results. it's a university, not middle school. take things seriously, but also have fun. the key is a balance to your college career. things can be overwhelming at times, but take it one at a time, you will do great.
Tips for prospective students if you are looking for a great education and college experience, here is the place to start. classrooms are big, with a good student to professor ratio. you really get to know your professor well and other students. tutoring is always available for your struggles in a subject.
In three sentences this university is great, filled with diversity and tons of things to do. wpu offers great programs including the biology program, nursing, and teaching. i will be a sophomore soon and i do not regret my decision.

Categories Comments Campus Safety Campus safety is not a profound issue. This campus is very secure. I am more terrified of the wild life on campus than anything else.
Bang for the buck This is the most cost friendly institution that I have researched. I was interested in experiencing city life however could not afford the tuition for school in that location. This school has given me the opportunity to still experience the city and not be in any major debt.
What to do for fun William Paterson is very close to New York City therefore, most people venture off campus and enjoy the clubs, shows, and city entertainment. There are also local bars and theaters which students can enjoy. The campus occasionally offers events for the student body to attend as well.
Food and Dining The cafeteria food is undesirable at times however there are many options in the student center. There is a system of pioneer bucks which is active at various off campus dining areas. The quality of food varies by the day some are better than others.
Dorm Life Dorm life is very community oriented. There are nine residents hall which adhere to the needs and desires of various students. Most individuals who reside on campus become well acquainted with other residents who dorm.
Academic Rigor Similar to most universities there are a variety of courses. Some in the field of science , business, and political science are very rigorous . However, there are some courses which require minimal effort.
Tips for prospective students As a student at William Paterson University one must be proactive about their education. There is a lot of time spent outside of the classroom ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Complete everything early and verify everything via email especially financial aid information.
In three sentences William Paterson University provides a great opportunity for networking amongst a set of career driven professors. The University is in close proximity to New York City thus opening the spectrum for excellent internships. William Paterson University provides an array of opportunities for students who are willing to actively and independently seek them .

Categories Comments What to do for fun I participate in intermural sports, as well as work out there. Mostly i am doing research with my professors.
Food and Dining They have different styles of food, but not the healthiest food to eat.
Dorm Life I never dormed.
Academic Rigor I take the hardest classes possible so i can be the best prepared to face the real world.
Tips for prospective students Make sure to find something that you love doing, it does not matter how much money you can make as long as you are passionate about it. The opportunities professor present to you to help out, try as hard as possible to be involved in activities inside your major it will help to network and get your name out there.
In three sentences William Paterson has one of the best Kinesiology programs in New jersey. Classes are small and the professors keep student involved in research studies they do. Once settled in the major, the relationship between students and professors is like a small family.

Greek Life AWFUL! Greeks out here are so cliquey and rude.
Bang for the buck Completely not worth what I'm paying. Way too expensive.
What to do for fun There's really not much to do for fun except make friends.
Food and Dining Wayne hall is edible, but completely disgusting. Gives you really bad stomachaches too.
Dorm Life They will have like a few activities at the beginning of each semester but other than that you'll be in your room all day watching tv.
Tips for prospective students Make sure that if you do decide to dorm you have a car. There is literally nothing to do here.

Tips for prospective students Don't go to college unless you are really ready to put the effort into it.
In three sentences William Paterson has a great staff because a lot of staff members go out of their way in order to help the students. I also like that it is a small campus and it is easy to find your way around. The workload is the right amount for a college student and the grading system is completely fair.

Dorm Life There isn't a lot of dorm life, it is mostly a commute school.

In three sentences WP is a great university although some prof. won't be any good. What to do for fun I suggest highly joining Greek Life, it is an amazing experience and always gives something to do. Otherwise things to do are limited.

Dorm Life The dorms are kind of old and there's always some kind of problem- including fire alarms at 3:00 AM.

Categories Comments Campus Safety They have so many emergency posts on campus, and when I was living there, I felt secure. People also tend to be out on campus late at night, so that's another element of security.
Clubs and Activities They have so many different clubs and organizations; you're almost guaranteed to find something that interests you. I'm in two clubs, and I feel welcome by the other members.
Bang for the buck Considering that it is a state school and on the cheaper side, I'd say the cost of admission has been worth it. I'm enjoying my classes, and the faculty is incredibly kind and helpful. I was worried about the social aspect of college life, but even that's going well!
What to do for fun They have a lot of on-campus events, like concerts or other programs.
Food and Dining There are a lot of different options, and I'd say the food is pretty good, all things considered.
Dorm Life I lived on campus for a short while, and unfortunately it's pretty much dead on weekends. The cafe, for example, is closed, and everyone seems to go home. However, that can be nice if you're seeking a quiet environment.
Academic Rigor Some of the classes I've taken have been quite challenging in terms of the material and workload.
In three sentences The campus is very lovely. The professors are, for the most part, kind and caring individuals. Once you find a club that suits you, you'll be guaranteed to make friends.

Categories Comments Campus Safety There are student's for campus patrol that walk around at night, but there have been events of people being assaulted. Many of the assaults aren't publicized but most likely you will hear about it from other students.
Greek Life Some are more education driven, you have to maintain a high GPA while others you only have to maintain the minimum.
Great for these types of students Students that are more serious about their education rather than making friends and partying. Most students here commute so many aren't interested in making friends but it isn't impossible. A few friends came here to party, one stayed a semester and transferred out while another joined a sorority and failed out.
What to do for fun They provide activities for students to attend. Numerous clubs will have free lunch and some type of entertainment for student's. The French club provided food and a belly dancer for entertainment to raise awareness of Middle Eastern countries that speak French. There are many events associated with Greek life.
Food and Dining The dining hall has a somewhat wide selection of food, but if you don't have a meal plan, it costs $7.75 to get in there. Although they claim its all you can eat, the food servers will limit the amount of food you can actually get. The food court is extremely expensive so as a commuter, I've learned to go down the road to any of the numerous food stores or to just bring my own lunch.
Dorm Life I personally didn't dorm but a few friends of mine from high school, some of them hated it completely but it was mostly their roommate they didn't like. They offer many activities for students to keep them entertained and to help them make friends on campus. Everyone that loves to live on campus attends all these events.
Academic Rigor Some of the programs offered are very serious and you will be dropped if you don't maintain the necessary GPA. Many of the science programs however, are taught by foreign professors, some with very strong accents. Also, some professors are very understanding when student's don't understand the material while other's blame the student's for not studying.
Tips for prospective students If you want the college experience, then be prepared to join a sorority/fraternity because most student's here commute. Talk to people you know about their experiences here, and remember that yous might be completely different. Also, when registering for classes make sure you look online to ratemyprofessors.com because that will save your GPA.
In three sentences This isn't a terrible school, it has it's flaws but I'd give it an overall 3/5 stars. I personally like the school but people I talk to completely disagree.

Categories Comments Campus Safety WPUNJ doesnt just have campus security, it also has professionally trained police on hand 24/7. they can often be seen roaming the campus lots in their cars, making sure there are no hit and runs occuring.
Clubs and Activities WPUNJ has an enormous amount of clubs available, form the SGA to the Equestrian team.
Great for these types of students - hard workers - looking for a diverse and open-minded student population -those who like to be socially active in the school community
What to do for fun its always nice to join some of the many clubs offered on campus. very entertaining, yet simultaneously educating events, like Asian Culture Week, are a pleasant part of the college experience.
Food and Dining Fair tasting food, with a variety available.
Dorm Life it depends on whether your an honors student or not. if you join the honors college your dorm is practically a suite. however, the other dorms are not as impressive. its not that they're especially bad, just not as good as the honor dorms.
Academic Rigor classes can be demanding, especially in reports and papers.
Tips for prospective students join as many clubs as possible, because thats what creates the largest and funnest social environment in college.
In three sentences i would rate wpunj as a 9/10 based on 3 factors from my experience: 1) very open minded staff and students 2) excellent college experience and school spirit 3) very large number of successful clubs available.

Food and Dining I'm not a big fan of the dinning halls. they aren't the best, however they aren't the worst. you have a bunch to pick from. you're bound to find something you like.
Dorm Life what isn't there to love about dorming here?! the shuttle is always running, the dorms are clean, the different styles of the dorms fit all personalities.
Academic Rigor WPU has EXCALENT standings when it comes to academics. the teachers and staff are pure jewls. they all put in 100% to help students.
Tips for prospective students Coming to a big school such as WPU, you must stand out and get acquainted with the teacher, to let them know that you're not just a number. also when coming to WPU you must look at all the options you have far as the campus life, it might seem as if there isn't anything to do, but long and behold there is a bunch to do. just NETWORK!

Clubs and Activities There are a ton of different clubs and organizations you can join!
Great for these types of students This is without a doubt a commuter school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I don't know how uncommon this is, but every Tuesday and Thursday, from 12:30pm-2:00pm there is Common Hour, during which time there are very few classes held. This is a time for a lot of club meetings or just downtime for students.
Bang for the buck The price isn't too bad - although living on campus is quite pricey.
What to do for fun WPU is great in terms of its location. NYC is so close - you can see it from campus. There are also several popular hangout spots near the school.
Food and Dining Is college food really ever that good? The food is edible, and there are a lot of different options.
Dorm Life This is a largely commuter school, so dorm life is rather dull. Each dorm does have a few events throughout the year, though.
Academic Rigor This varies depending on the major, but the workload is generally challenging without being overwhelming.
Tips for prospective students If you're commuting, give yourself A LOT of extra time to find a parking spot before class.
In three sentences If you're going to school for the parties, this probably isn't the place for you. The professors care about their students and will work with them to help them succeed. The student body is diverse and generally polite.
