    Bang for the buck

Xavier University might seem costly, but it is definitely worth every penny. Xavier really gives you the true meaning of education. The people are there for you and to serve only YOU.

    Did enjoy being here

Attending Xavier University allows you to view many aspects of life. By being at such a prestigious institute you get a feel of the education life, the road to success. Being the school is fairly small and urban you get a more family feeling because you get to meet and know everyone. By the campus being located in New Orleans, you also get to experience what everyone come to New Orleans for: music, lights, fashion, entertainment, and best of all MARDI GRAS!

    Did learn a lot

When it comes to receiving an education, Xavier University means business. Teachers and even peers are there to help you along the way. Attending this school means putting education first and everything else last.

    Tips for prospective students

Always be ready to work when you come to class Always use planner Utilize the fact the professors are constantly there to help to you Organization is the key to a smooth college life and transition

    Bang for the buck

Xavier is definitely worth the money because you can go to no other school and receive a better education. This is true because you are given the chance to succeed. The school works with you no matter any issue you may. Money is never a problem because if you do the work the school will work with you to keep you in school and try to do as much as they can to help you stay in school.

    Am enjoying being here

Xavier is a very small school so the campus is very intimate. You get the chance to know everyone. Our campus is very active there is usually an event going on no matter what day. The Fraternities and Sororities are very active on the campus and give you multiple opportunities to do volunteer work and just to be involved with the community. We are not the biggest party school but campus life is great. Safety is also a top priority on the campus

    Am learning a lot

At Xavier professors care, they are always available to you. Xavier being a small school your classes are a lot smaller and you get the chance to interact with your professors and really get an understanding of what they are teaching. Also when you don't understand professor's make sure that they do whatever is necessary for you to understand the material. All professor's offer office hours and are usually in their offices before and after those hours. At Xavier you always have a chance to learn no matter what it takes or how long it takes for you to understand the material.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Be prepared for everything 2. Taking advantage of your resources 3. Be organized 4. Don't be afraid to experience the college life. Enjoy it while you can.

    Bang for the buck

For a Catholic Private school, Xavier is not as expensive as most private schools. You are not just a number in the classroom, your teachers know you by your name. The teachers are always will to help you get ahead. The compassion that the teachers, faculty and staff is like no other. There are also tutoring labs that are at no extra cost to you and there for your benefit.

    Am enjoying being here

Xavier University is very focused on educating their student in the best way. Yet there is still time for you to enjoy the college experience and meet great people from all over the country. There are many clubs and organizations you can be apart of. As long as you are willing to go out and join the fun you will enjoy it.

    Am learning a lot

I didn't know what to expect when I started school at Xavier. In my first year experience i can truly say i learned a lot. I learned a lot educationally and personally. I learned a lot from the teachers and i also learned from the students that i shared my first year college experience with.

    Will enjoy being here

As the old capital of Louisiana and the most popular city in Louisiana, New Orleans is a place I enjoy being in every time I visit. Of course, I will enjoy myself because there will be family, friends, and my school. Basically, New Orleans is a place I can call one of my homes because I always used to visit and it is a city where I will never run out of things to do.

    Will learn a lot

As one of the best schools in the world with pharmacy, I plan on learning a variety of things at Xavier University of Louisiana. The school has so much to offer and lots of experiences that will enhance my well-being in life. During my visitation, the atmosphere was very welcoming and the learning environment seems like everything will work out for the best.

Great for these types of students

Those who really enjoy school. Those who have big goals and want to reach them. This school is for any student who is prepared to be focused in school. Bang for the buck

YES, it does cost a lot, HOWEVER.....a great education is an investment to your life. They have the best technology available, free of cost, to you in the library. The cafeteria is so nice. You automatically get internet hook up in your room and free phone service. They have teachers who are with you the WHOLE way and more than 80% of Xavier's students graduate. What more is there to say...its a great school and is totally worth it.

    Will enjoy being here

The students, teachers, Faulty and staff are REALLY great. Plus you're in the middle or a great city. When you first come to XAvier you will surely see for yourself what i mean.

Pharmacy and Pre-Med students. They also have a wonderful engineering program for african americans

    Tips for prospective students

ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT! the staff at Xavier are there for you whenever you need them.

    Bang for the buck

considering the education you receive while attending xavier its a great price!

    Am enjoying being here

i love being at Xavier! the people are very friendly and if you ever need any type of help they have dedicated staff that will assist you with any problem.

    Am learning a lot

Xavier is a wonderful university for those who are very interested in learning. The work load isn't too much but it also isn't a walk in the park either. At xavier they give you the right amount of work to help your mind.

Great for these types of students

It is great for students who are determined and not put off by a heavy work load. Also, it is great for students who are not lazy. Its a lot of work, so if the student isn't willing to put in the time for it then this is not the school for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Time management. Its necessary. There is so much work to be done and they all have deadlines however you do not want to be just about school. You definitely want to have some fun too, to relieve stress.

    Bang for the buck

XULA is a little expensive. I haven't graduated yet but hopefully its a bang for the buck. They do have a lot of pointless things they charge you for.

    Am enjoying being here

I absoutely love it here. The weather is very pleasant all school year. I've meet some of the most amazing and open people I could ever imagine meeting. Most of the teachers are really nice but of course there are always a few exceptions. I find plenty to do from on campus yard events to parties. It is very easy to get around the city also.

    Am learning a lot

I learned so much in every class. At first I thought it was overwhelming. There are tutoring centers and you can go see professors during office hours. They are all there to help because believe me, this school isn't easy. But it is definitely worth the struggle.

Great for these types of students

Students who are social butterflies and feel that a social life on campus should play a huge role in their college experience: B E W A R E!! Students who can adapt to any culture, like to attend HBCUs,like warm weather (rare to snow in the winter), want to work in the medical field, and are studious and creative when it comes to social life; come to Xavier University of New Orleans.

    Tips for prospective students

Students should become prepared to attend class. There is an absence policy. Students should have a planner to help improve timemanagement skills and write down assignments and future due dates. Apply yourself in classes, show your professor your interest and they might help you out on a recommendation letter in the future. If your not from New Orleans, be ready for a culture shock. Safety, especially on campus being that is in open. Be prepared to see nuns throughout the campus and greet them with respect as well.

    Bang for the buck

Im just going to say that Xavier is known for its MEDICAL program and getting african americans into medical school. So if your desire is to belong to any medical background then it is deffinately worth the cost. However, I feel that if you are in any other field it is not worth spending your money at a school in a subject it is not known or successful for. Xavier stresses it's medical programs so the other majors can feel some what ignored. So if your aspiration is to become a doctor, pharmacist, dentist, or anything of that nature; then Xavier will be right for you.

    Am enjoying being here

If you are a student here, you might have to become creative in your social life. Xavier doesn't offer much social life on campus, it being that its very small. A student doesnt get a true college feel because: 1.there is a neighborhood on campus. 2.there is a lack of a pool, student center, frat houses, and extra social structures in general. However, there is a University Center (a single building) where students can go to the cafe and eat, participate in open activities between classes, and also dances, public speakers, and seminars that come to the school. Being only 5 minutes from the french quater is helpful, so if you find a friend with a car that would be a good idea since Xavier does not have a shuttle system. Aside from that there are great organizations to become involved in like: 1. Clubs (biology, prssa, student council,etc..) 2.Groups (sorority, fraternity) 3. Gold Star Dance Team, XU Cheer, X-Factor(Dances with the drum line), Pom Squad, Tennis, Basketball, Track, Cross Country,Volleyball

    Am learning a lot

Xavier University is a liberal arts black university. So the type of learning environment is well-rounded and one that is (one on one learning). You as a student really get a chance to get personal with the instructors and if you truly need extra help there are other resources to help you learn and understand the material. 1. Tutoring Centers for each subject like Math,Reading, and Writing are open mostly all day until 8.Also on Saturday from 8-2pm 2. The professors make themselves available through office hours(You can ask them for them before or after class) 3.Students are also kind enough to help eachother out by tutoring in open study areas. The smartest thing to do is to exchange cantact information with studious students and ask for help. Most of the time there willing.

Great for these types of students

Students that truly care about furthering their education in the medical field definitely important here. Although the school does have Art and Music majors also, most of the attending students major in a science or math. The Science department is phenomenal.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to get living arrangements off campus because the freshman dorms are not that great. They are one bedroom, two people, with community bathrooms. There is no kitchen. The only thing you can use is a microwave in the lobby area of each floor. The centralized air conditioning is also annoying because often times it is way too hot, especially during winter.

    Bang for the buck

Take advantage of the free tutoring centers. There is a biology, chemistry, english, and math tutoring center that offer peer tutoring for most of the day. The library offers a very quiet study atmosphere especially if you are lucky enough to get one of the quiet rooms. Each student is assigned to a specific adviser in your field that you are expected to meet with once a week. They keep you in the right direction. Also, the drill class for chemistry, although annoying sometimes, allows for more instruction time during chem lecture classes.

    Am enjoying being here

I really like the classroom setting. None of my classes are too larger. My professors actually know my name and they openly answer and ask for questions during lecture. Many of the professors also go out of their way to help you succeed.

    Am learning a lot

My professors are very explanatory in what they teach. Many professors bring in visual aids and take time to draw diagrams and pictures on the boards. Overall, I do learn a lot because of the efficiency of the professors and the school. They do not play. If you do not plan to take the classes seriously, do not attend because they definitely make you work for your grades.

    Campus Safety

Feel very safe. There is always campus police patrolling and willing to give a ride back to the dorm after late night studying. There are blue call poles in case trouble happens.

    Greek Life

VERY big! At many large events Greeks come out full force.

    Clubs and Activities

Many clubs that do various things from NAACP, to Sociology club, Chemistry club, campus ministries...etc.

Great for these types of students

Science students. science majors, science, enthusiasts!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Our gym was called the Barn. But it was closed last basketball season to build a brand new gym.

    Bang for the buck

It is more than what I expected. This was the cheapest college on my list. Worth the money.

    What to do for fun

During Homecoming and Springfest there is plenty to do (Dorm Stepoff, concerts, block parties). There are also many educational forums however a lot of them occur during the day so many Freshman cannot attend due to classes.

    Food and Dining

If you get bored with the same foods easily I suggest going outside of campus or ordering takeout at least once a week.

    Dorm Life

There is never a dull moment living in St. Katherine Drexel Hall!

    Academic Rigor

It actually depends. If you are a science major 4 stars. Anything else, three stars. Most of the non-science majors I know have more free time than I do.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are not into science, this school may not be for you. There are other programs here but science majors are paid the most attention.

    In three sentences

On a scale of one to 1o I would give Xavier a 7. It is still a growing school, full of amazing students, alumni, and faculty who are more than willing to help with any and all problems.

    Tips for prospective students

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....Don't sleep in class. Paying attention in class is the first step in passing your class. Next always have a buddy you can trust at that college because in college, teachers WILL NOT baby you, you are responsible for keeping up with the work. Lastly, homework first, then play later.

    Bang for the buck

Not exactly bang for a buck. Maybe if the food they served improved, then maybe.

    Am enjoying being here

Xavier University is all about studies, but there are many clubs to join and sports to participate in. It was a confusing at first, but soon it got bearable.

    Am learning a lot

Xavier has a great science program for those interested in majoring pharmacy or bio med. They have strict curriculum on chemistry and biology classes but it is to prepare you for graduated college. For example in chemistry lab, they give you a basic guideline for chemistry procedures.

Great for these types of students

If you come to college to work and to get an education and you want to graduate and go on to graduate school or to the workforce then Xavier is right for.

    Tips for prospective students

Xavier is not for everybody. If you are one of them types of students who want to go to college to party and not study and not go to class. Then don't waste your time or your money. Even though it is a HBCU and we have fun but Xavier take pride in the education. When you come on campus be ready to work. And if you debating if you should apply, go on ahead and do it. Xavier is an institution that will give you a chance don't matter how your test scores are looking, don't matter if you are rich or poor they will work with because they truly want to see you achieve. So if you get rejected from any other institutions just know that Xavier has your back and will put you to work and challenge you so that you can successful and not a statistic.

    Bang for the buck

Even though Xavier is kind of expensive I truly believe with the amount of money you are paying to attend this institution it is a very good investment. The quality of the education is really beyond what you will receive from other institution.

    Am enjoying being here

Love being at Xavier, it a family oriented atmosphere. Small university, it is a HBCU so you know we do know how to have fun. But with that said they have a lot of clubs and organizations you can get involved to.

    Am learning a lot

The quality and the quantity of the education that Xavier have to offer is amazing. Comparing to the college that a couple of my high school friends have elected to go to. They was surprise that Xavier offers free tutoring. They have a program called SAS and its for students who didn't do all that well on the SAT or ACT and they help you along the way. They will get you extra tutoring if needed. The professors at Xavier have an open office policy so if you ever need any extra help you just have to go seek them. The work is extremely hard but they are preparing you for your future whether after graduation you will be enrolling in graduate school or jump right into the work force. Another thing at Xavier is the professors now your name, you are not a number.

    Campus Safety

They have their own police force. If they are driving around they are usually on their cell phone so they will most likely drive right by you as you are getting mugged. Bring pepper spray.

    Greek Life

    It exist.

    Clubs and Activities

Lots of clubs and activities but they don't advertise them well so it;s easy to miss out.

Great for these types of students

Serious student who are not looking for a party school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Homecoming We don't have a football team so it's...

    Bang for the buck

With their slipping reputation I don't believe the tuition is justified. The cost of living on campus is absurd. But, as long as the federal government is subsidizing education the price will continue to rise.

    What to do for fun

Go home on breaks.. If you are looking for a party school go elsewhere. The school regardless of your major is not designed to accommodate student looking for a good time. Business.

    Food and Dining

Slop. If you live on campus you must purchase a plan unless you are exempted for medical reasons. Food goes out and sits. I guess they don't have hold times at XU. What is not eaten during the week is turned into soup for the weekend. If you work or are involved in activities and miss service times, you are on your own. Even though they make you pay for the meal plan, you are not allowed to take food out of the dining hall during dinner. So, sorry if you can't stay an eat there. Kind of strange that food can be taken our of the dining hall during breakfast and lunch (like when faculty and staff tend to take food out of the dining hall)

    Dorm Life

Overpriced. Open drug use and lazy RA's. Drug paraphernalia laying around in the open. Obvious smell of marijuana in the hall right in front of the RA's room. Expect RA's to knock on your door at 10p.m. on a Wednesday to tell yo about a get together they poorly planned. Not cool when you have 8a.m classes.

    Academic Rigor

This is not an easy program. If don't have copies of old tests and have to actually earn your grades be prepared to study and study a lot.

    Tips for prospective students

RUN!! Go somewhere else. Culture of cheating here is catching up with Xavier and the reputation is going down hill.

    In three sentences

Most professors are amazing. Business dealings are brutal. When I graduate, will never return.

Learn how to study and stay focused. Don't get behind on any readings or projects.

    Bang for the buck

This private institution is VERY expensive and competitive. Its well worth it though. You will graduate and be ready for the next level. This school is ranked NUMBER ONE for placing African Americans in medical school.

I love it here!! I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. It is tough though and you have to make your own fun, but in the city of New Orleans that is definitely possible. This university is the only Catholic HBCU.

Goal oriented, focused and serious about becoming Doctors. If you are looking for a part than this is not your school.

    Tips for prospective students

College is an experience unlike an other that you will get to have. In my time at my University in New Orleans, I have been exposed to a variety of people and have found out so much about myself. I believe that these past two years have been a time of me getting to know myself, my goals in life, and the type of people that I want to share my success with. In my Freshmen year I tried out for my Universities cheerleading team, when I did not make it I was crushed, but I knew that I had to refocus my priorities so I put academics first and got a 3.7 GPA my Freshmen year. In my Sophomore year things changed and my academics were not so great, I recently had to find a new way of studying because what I thought worked in High School didn't work in college. I guess my best piece of advice would be enjoy the time, ask for help, and don't be afraid to make mistakes because that what college really is, learning from those mistakes and learning about yourself.

    Bang for the buck

It can be a little high if you are not a Pre-med student you probably would wonder where you money was going but they have so many great programs and tutoring centers.

    Am enjoying being here

I am envolved on campus in social clubs, student government association, and honors programs.

    Am learning a lot

The course load is ridiculous to you at first but there is so much that you are learning. I know that I am learning a lot because when I go to other schools students look confused when I mention some of the things I discuss in my science courses.

    Campus Safety

They have campus police that monitor the campus and they provide police escorts to different parts of the campus. Campus Safety gets a B.

    Greek Life

    Several greek organizations on campus.

    Clubs and Activities

They do have clubs and activities, but not as many as other schools. As stated before, this school wants you to focus. I think they kind of cheat students out of the total college experience.

Great for these types of students

Great for serious, determined, and focused students. This school is for students who are willing to push themselves.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, the school is costly, but you get an amazing education. I am not necessarily sure of if you get your bang for the buck because the school lacks so many of the things offered at other schools for students. However, Xavier is making improvements, so I suspect in the future the cost may be a bang for the buck or at least student will get the full college experience for their money.

    What to do for fun

This is not a school that you attend if you are looking to have fun. The academics are so rigorous that they consume much of your time. The school does not have a lot of amenities or activities for students to enjoy, so I guess you have to really leave campus to have fun. But even then, there is not much to do unless you are a drinker or partier.

    Food and Dining

The dining experience is not much better than dorm life. Afterall, New Orleans has some of the greatest food in the country, but its definitely not provided to or by the school. In addition, the school is not in close proximity to many of the better places to get food, therefore students without a car are kind of stuck eating the school provided food. With all the money it cost to attend Xavier, you would think at least they would provide decent food. Another area where they receive a low grade of D-.

    Dorm Life

The worst part of my experience at this school is the outdated and often filthy dorms. It makes it very hard to fully enjoy your college experience when you are living in sub-standard conditions. For the price they charge for housing, you would think it would be so much better. Dorm life at this school gets a grade of F.

    Academic Rigor

Very challenging. Nothing like high school. Come prepared and focused. If you plan on partying or goofing off then this is not the school for you. They do provide a lot of support, so don't get discouraged. Take advantage of the resources provided.

    Tips for prospective students

Come focused because the academics are rigorous. Stay focused because its easy to get discouraged or sidetracked. Let your focus lead to your success and take advantage of all the help and support that the school offers. Honestly, this school has so many resources in place that if you fail, its mainly because you didn't take advantage of the many opportunities the school provides.

    In three sentences

A school committed to seeing their students succeed, but very demanding and challenging. Very family oriented school, but not a lot of activities for students. A great learning experience and a school that motivates you to do better, but it is very costly and does not provide a lot of financial assistance, however you can't put a price on the education that the school offers.

Xavier is a very academic-oriented school but there are also plenty of activities to get involved in.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers are very educated in their fields and have your best interest at heart when it comes to something you may be struggling with in any course.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a must for any college student. Not only are there a campus police booths all over, but there are also plenty of the emergency buttons just in case. There are students who take classes in groups for safety, and I loved that. There is safety in numbers.

    What to do for fun

There is so much to do in New Orleans! When I was there, there was never a dull moment. Not only is the famous Canal St. and Bourbon St. really close, but there are plenty of clubs, small cafes, and places to go shopping. No one really drives, so if you don't have a car, its no problem. Plus for the guys the Mercedes Benz Stadium is close so watching the Saints Football team practice would be fun!

    Food and Dining

I give the food an dining a A+++ because of the location. If your anything like me, and love New Orleans style food, this is perfect. Every Friday the school has gumbo and on Mondays the school has red beans and rice. There are also a lot of close by food places such as McDonald's, a Waffle House, and a lot of New Orleans style restaurants.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is also great! Of course the dorms won't be huge, and your sharing a room, but everyone is like family. You get to choose whether you want a private room, 2 resident rooms, or even 4 to a suite. All the freshman's stay in one dorm building, to get them used to the college life, but everyone else is close by so it doesn't look isolated. Its the perfect dorm lifestyle.

    Academic Rigor

The academic selection is amazing. The school is mostly known for their Pharmacy majors, but as a English/Journalism/Foreign Language major this school is even perfect for me. The classes are not packed with a million students, and the professor are there to help whenever you need them.

    Tips for prospective students

Once you visit the campus, you will be sold. I was so afraid to not only be leaving the state, but also going into college period. I thought without my parents I would be so alone, but the staff and students become not only friends, but a close family.

    In three sentences

This university has to be one of the best campuses I have ever been on in my life. Besides the fact that the staff greets you as if they already know you, and the students are eager to meet you, the academic program selection is amazing! This has to be the number one college on my list.

    Greek Life

Being that Xavier is a Catholic institution, it makes it hard for Greek like to flourish. The many rules and regulations that coincide with the Greeks, it limits their freedom.

    Food and Dining

There aren't any restaurants on campus, you have the cafeteria only. Its awful.

    Dorm Life

The only good thing about the dorm life is the friendships that come from living in such close quarters. Other than that, its pretty much hell. The dorm mothers and fathers are aggravating, you have a curfew and the rooms are nasty. The community bathrooms aren't all that either.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier is all academic, therefore, they take it very seriously. They do tend to spoon-feed you certain information, but at least you remember it. There are no such things as easy classes at Xavier. Every professor is going to make you work for your A.

    Tips for prospective students

Be careful what you freshman year, it determines your reputation since Xavier is so small.

    In three sentences

Xavier University is a school that is notorious for placing African Americans into Medical Schools; however, the school has some great improving to do in order to keep up with the next generation. The highly dedicated staff and faculty provide the most support inside and outside the classroom to ensure the student's success in the class.

    Tips for prospective students

This better be your number one choice.

    Bang for the buck

No way. Because I come from such a poor family, this tuition just seemed too far out of my reach. I wouldn't say it's reasonable considering the education you would be receiving.

Great for these types of students

Pre-pharmacy, pre-med, liberal arts, locals, minorities.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out the campus and surrounding area. Definitely sit in on classes that interest you, and most importantly: try to talk to current students to get a feel for the campus atmosphere. The people in admissions and financial aid offices were really rude to me when I was applying. I actually decided not to go to Xavier for many reasons, but also because I could not believe how I was being treated by the staff just for simply asking if my file was complete for application ad if they'd received all my test scores, etc. I didn't want to deal with this for the next four years. I go to Loyola University New Orleans now and love it.

    Bang for the buck

Xavier is relatively cheap for what it offers, but since it is not extremely well known it does not get as much private endowment to use towards financial aid.

    Will enjoy being here

I think that Xavier is really not in the best part of New Orleans, and I wouldn't like living there. There is a big commuter population at Xavier and the ages of incoming students ranges greatly. All told it is not for me because these factors make the school less of a community.

    Will learn a lot

The professors at Xavier seemed very good. They were interested in helping students learn, and there seemed to be a good student-faculty relationship.

    Campus Safety

We have cops, Xavier New Orleans trained cops, that patrol the area 24/7. I have late dance practices, and as I walk from practice to my dorm a cop would follow me as I walked in the dark or check on me. We even have emergency control centers around the campus that once activated the cops come immediately.

    Greek Life

Our Greek Life is ordinary to a Black Catholic college. The greeks show their colors and stomp regularly by instruction of our president. We must uphold more standards because of our Catholic background, so everything is dignified on a different level.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs for you to join and attend and their is always something on the bulletin boards to do. The catch is knowing about them and getting involved.

Great for these types of students

Xavier is awesome for the student that wants a family-based learning and is okay with a small college. You will not get lost at Xavier!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

All freshmen must attend Freshmen Orientation for a whole week before school so that you as a freshmen can know the school and be familiar with professors and staff.

    Bang for the buck

Xavier is number 1 in the nation for sending Blacks into medical school and and top rated for the amount of Black pharmacists its graduates. It is also prestige for its many other majors.

    What to do for fun

I have done a couple of varying things in the New Orleans area for fun. I love to ride the bus and see the city of New Orleans to go to Canal Street, the Lakefront, Dillard, and other parts of the city.

    Food and Dining

The food is adequate to college food that must be eaten everyday for 3 times a day. One would get tired of it, but it really isn't bad because they actually do events to keep things interesting like Coke Float Fridays.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life at Xavier is okay to varying people. A freshmen has many rules they must adhere to, however, we all understand that they are there to ensure the academic success of that student. After freshmen year a student is given more freedom, since most are now 18 and more knowledgeable about college.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor of Xavier is at all high. The school may not be a genius college, however, it is demanding to a great extent to challenge its students for the graduate schools, medical schools, and afterlife of college.

    Tips for prospective students

Tips for prospective students attending Xavier would be to have all your financial situations in order and checked upon every semester. Also, an incoming student would do best to make appropriate friendships with employees, professors, classmates, and some New Orleans citizens to stay informed on various things going on.

    In three sentences

I would rate Xavier University of Louisiana at a 9.5. The college is a wonderful place to learn, socialize, and become an adult in a festive city, however, the financial means are high compared to other colleges. They treat you like a family, which brought me there without looking for secondary choices.

    Campus Safety

Somebody was robbed on campus like two days before the start of spring '12 semester. This is a huge problem because Xavier is soooo small. XUPD, the XULA police dept., should have no problem keeping every sq. in. of the campus safe. Fall semester a student about 300 ft from campus was almost raped. XUPD told me when I first got there, a girl's car was broken into. It would feel a little bit better if Xavier wasn't in the hood and I'm not talking about a closed, consolidated campus and a ghetto outside of it. There's the University Center and then a bunch of houses, some abandoned, and then another Xavier building, so you are literally in a neighborhood the moment you leave your dorm. I never felt completely safe walking at night. Not that I was scared, I stay in the hood, I just had to make sure I was VERY aware and on guard, too much so to be on a college campus with fully-licensed police officers.

    Greek Life

I was at least hoping for A Different World type of Greek Life where organizations actually stomp on a regular. I saw the Greeks like 4 times the whole year.

    Clubs and Activities

I haven't seen many clubs advertised. If it was they didn't do a good job. Campus can be dead most times. The fashion show that SGA put together was cute though.

Great for these types of students

Sheltered, somewhat conservative, upper-middle class, generic, hopeful pharmacists. You won't be on the cutting edge of anything going here.

    Bang for the buck

Go to a public school. It's cheaper and the overall college experience will be much more rewarding than going here. The tuition cost doesn't really seem to fit what you get. Another big thing I noticed was I almost forgot it was an HBCU. There was nothing done to show that this school was designed to help blacks in the real world. However, I definitely didn't forget it was Catholic. There was so much censoring on music it felt like I was on BET. Muting the word doesn't mute the meaning (but that's a discussion for another time). Overall you don't feel like an adult going to this school.

    What to do for fun

Nothing on campus. It is pretty much abandoned on the weekends. Luckily, I had a car so I could go wherever and from what I heard you really need it because the transit system in NOLA isn't the best. All in all you have to go off campus to have fun.

    Food and Dining

Food is very limited as far as diversity. There is really only two places on campus to go, the University Center and Jazzman's, to eat. It can be good but for the most part it's not. During the weekends it can be downright inedible. It can sometimes be debated as to whether high school served better food. Jazzman's is a small cafe serving smoothies and po boys. They also have salads and different pastries. It's kinda like a super mini fresh deli and bakery. There is no choice of meal plans as it is included in the rooming fee and if you miss when the dining hall is open you either have to go to Jazzman's or go to a restaurant off campus which I almost always did because of work.

    Dorm Life

When you walk into the communal bathroom and dookie is smeared all over the floor, it really puts into perspective where you are and with whom you live. Freshman dorms especially are horrible. They are separated by gender, come with a very strict 12:30 AM curfew on weekdays and 2:00 AM curfew on weekends, and are just old. The air condition unit in my room would leak, and it wasn't until I and my roommate decided not to clean the water up and let it leak into the hallway, that it was fixed. (They probably didn't want that lawsuit for a slip and fall). I heard of multiple room units that didn't work, which is even more of a problem when you're in a place where temperatures reach 90+ degrees with 100% humidity. There is a janitorial service that cleans the restrooms once a day everyday and they do a decent job, but when you're in a place with a bunch of dudes that still have a high-school mentality, it kinda doesn't look like it was cleaned at all.

    Academic Rigor

Academics as a whole is not the worst but by no means is it the best. Science majors are incredibly structured, leaving very little room to experiment with other classes. It almost feels as if you have to know what you want before you get here. Yes, you can go in undecided but you'll have to make up for lost time with summer school, which is completely out of pocket. For my freshman science classes, I did not need a textbook to pass or even do well. Clarity of explanations of different topics varied from good to horrible. ANY FRESHMAN LEVEL (1000s) CLASS CANNOT BE MISSED MORE THAN TWICE THE #OF TIMES MET PER WEEK. i.e. a MWF class cannot be missed more than 6 times. If you do, YOU FAIL, PERIOD. So one can have an A but fail because of excessive absences, which to me is complete bull.

    Tips for prospective students

For those who only want B-list academics during their college experience, this school is perfect for you. Getting into XULA is very easy so you shouldn't stress too much about making the cut. Honestly, I've filled out part-time job applications more detailed than their application. Most students seeking admissions are prospective health professionals as the school caters most to them. I'd advise people not wanting to major in a natural science to go elsewhere.

    In three sentences

Most professors were okay. The administration and campus life were awful. If you have to pay more than $4000 per year out of pocket, go somewhere else; the overall quality is not worth it.

    Campus Safety

This IS New Orleans after all, so what can I say? I've had my scares, but if you have campus alerts sent to your phone I'd say you're good to go.

    Greek Life

There aren't many Greek clubs, but this is a historically black/catholic college, so I'm not sure that is strictly relevant. Also, college is for learning, not partying, in my opinion.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs here at Xavier. In fact, I'm still discovering new clubs to this day. I'm involved in the pre-veterinary club, which is open to anyone, not just future vets.

Great for these types of students

If you're catholic this is a great school for you. If you are willing to put in the effort to achieve great things and succeed in life this is also a great college for you.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We are currently building a few new buildings. I've heard rumors of a tennis court, staff offices, a gym, and a church.

    Bang for the buck

I'd say that I'm getting my money's worth. I got a full-ride scholarship so I don't actually have to pay for much, but if I did have to pay for tuition and such, attending Xavier would still be worth-while. Xavier offers almost all of the courses I am interested in taking. It also has free tutoring centers for biology, chemistry, and mathematics, as well as a writing center where you can get your essays looked over.

    What to do for fun

Honestly, I'm not a good person to ask for this either. I go to school to study, not to have fun or party. I have fun with my friends elsewhere, like at malls or the lakefront. However, Xavier does host several events throughout the event that are entertaining, and if you have a car you can get around town easily enough.

    Food and Dining

Xavier University is located in a food desert. This means that there isn't any affordable, healthy food readily available for the students that live in the dorms and don't have cars. I heard that the Xavier bus only brings students to WalMart once or twice a month. Oh, and our cafeteria serves lots of greasy food, if you're into that.

    Dorm Life

I don't live on campus, so I can't say from direct experience. However, I have many friends that do live on campus. It seems as though the dorms, as usual, are small and a bit cramped. I guess that is to be expected at a University, though.

    Academic Rigor

While Xavier isn't as difficult as Tulane, I have found it more challenging than UNO or Loyola (no offense meant). I've seen plenty of people that were honor students in high school flunk out because they underestimated the rigor of college.

    Tips for prospective students

Please be wary if you are expecting a walk in the park, because this is a whole new game. Xavier has lots of clubs and events, but don't let those things distract you from your goal: education. Keep your head held high and your goal in mind.

    In three sentences

Xavier University has surpassed my expectations of college. While this college is mainly known for its pharmacy program, it is also excellent for students looking for anything science or mathematics-related. Xavier knows how to have fun while pushing its students hard to work their best.

    Campus Safety

This is the downside to Xavier. We do have a police stationon campus, but do to the fact that we're located in between a neighborhood in New Orleans where the crime rate is high causes it not be a really safe environment. So the best thing to do is travel in group and stay indoors after 11pm.

    Clubs and Activities

Habitat for Humanity is a niceclub to join. They meet up every Saturday morning at around seven in front of the cafe, load up on a bus, and go to deserted land and create homes for many who need it.

Great for these types of students

This school is not only great for students who did well in high school its also great for students who didn't do so well because of one thing or another and feel if a college could give him or her a try they would do wonderfully. So overall its for students who have the determination and drive to reach for their goals.

    Bang for the buck

Yes I do believe its bang for your buck because yes its expensive, but its definitely not outrages your paying to create a better future for your self and at this price I thick its not bad at all.

    What to do for fun

For fun my friends and I would chill in our dorms and watch movies or just talk about life. In depth kinda stuff.

    Food and Dining

The food was also okay. There wasn't much of a variety.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was okay. The worst part was the whole shower/restroom situation. Where you have students who dont really understanding the meaning of picking up after themselves, but that's at every college. So I digress.

    Academic Rigor

At Xavier they mean business. No holding your hand telling you all the work you missed the day befor because you were sick, Nope. You have to track them down to their office and see what you missed and its not always guaranteed that you'll be able to do it over. So if you do know ahead of time if you will be missing a day or to please inform your professor if not lets pray your professor will understand.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to college with a basic idea of what you want to do with your life. You don't have to know exactly what you want to be now, but found a way to narrow your options down so you wont waste any time or money (because it does get expensive)!

    In three sentences

The educational aspect of Xavier is great. The professors are top notch and truly want you to succeed. Overall academically its a really nice school.

The campus is surrounded by fencing and has a police department specialized for Xavier students only and are available to assist you at any time.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs associated with race and ethnic background as well as those who enhance the students' interest in serving their communities, while experimenting within their fields of study.

Great for these types of students

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The University Center has various extracurricular activities are held there weekly. These help the students not only academically but also as being a great part of the university. The NCF lounge allows students to socialize and shape them academically but also socially rounded individual

    What to do for fun

Students who live in Xavier dorms are exposed to various New Orleans activities such as Japan fest, and Mardi Gras. There are various recreational activities such as the routine visits to the movies and the French quarter.

    Food and Dining

The specific and unique blend of New Orleans' culture which include the historical influence of French and Spanish culture describes the uniqueness of the New Orleans city. Xavier helps preserve and exemplify the surrounding New Orleans area, by serving these cuisines in their cafeteria.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are high maintenance, and they allow the student to be a prat of the university and attend more extracurricular activities. It also enhances their students to embrace the culture of the surrounding city, which is New Orleans.

    Academic Rigor

Due to the unique liberal core, students are allowed to expand their knowledge in all subjects. For example, a student who majors in Biology is also required to take theology which helps them further determine their career path, by confirming or altering their future goals. It definitely is a challenge to juggle all these classes and demands critical analysis and evaluation.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are to attend Xavier be certain to show dedication and commitment in all of your classes. Make sure to engage with the professors in a one to one conversation during office hours.

    In three sentences

Xavier University is a unique institution based on the individual's spiritual and intellectual growth. The level of devotion it has to its student distances it from other competing universities. For, example the small class sizes and expansive tutoring opportunities expresses Xavier's dedication toward students.

    Campus Safety

You don't have to worry about safety. The campus environment is completely safe and violent-free for the most part. Like any campus, if you go searching for a fight, then you're going to get one. As a rule of thumb: Don't do what you wouldn't tell your parents about ;). If you follow that, then you'll be fine :)!

    Greek Life

The greek life here isn't as huge as other schools, but if you want to pledge, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a fraternity or sorority that you'll like.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many activities and clubs that you can join here. If you are determined enough, you can form a club and get sponsored.

Great for these types of students

Students who: - are bookworms - want to be medical doctors or pharmacists - care about their education - have the money or scholarships

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

If you have a schedule where you have to run from the main campus to Xavier South in 10 minutes, good luck!! :)

    Bang for the buck

The cost to attend this school is very expensive, but the school tries its best to make what you learn and experience here is equal to what you payed for.

    What to do for fun

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PARTY SCHOOL! LOL You are here for an education and the school realizes that. Honestly, student life is what you make it. If you go out and try to discover things to do around campus, then you'll have fun. If you expect entertainment to come to you...then you're going to be a very bored person. There are many school clubs, volunteer opportunities, and academically fun events. If you're into partying and music, then there are some dance clubs close to the campus. Sometimes, fraternities or sororities will throw parties. At times, the school will play music and serve free food on the yard (a big space in front of the University Center).

    Food and Dining

The school has a very unique menu when compared to out-of-state schools. There are many cajun dishes that they love to serve, like red-beans and rice, gumbo, dirty rice, and others. Even if you're not from Louisiana, you'll easily get accustomed to the food here. I will write this though: have emergency food items in your dorm!! The cafeteria workers are human, and sometimes the food that they serve isn't as great as what you're used to at home. If you do find that the cafeteria food is bad on a certain day, there are many restaurants close to the campus. Specific ones include McDonalds, KFC, a lot of Chinese restaurants, Popeye's, and other small restaurants. WARNING!!!: the Freshman 15 does exist on this campus!!! Make sure that you have frequent workout regimens, and think smart about what you eat.

    Dorm Life

LOL...Dorm life is what you make it. This is especially true for incoming freshman. For Freshman, it's mandatory that you live in Katherine Drexel Dorm (for females, also known as KD) or Saint Michael Dorm (for males, known as Saint Mike's). There is curfew for all dorms. The Living Learning center and Saint Martin Deporres have a later curfew than the underclassmen dorms. There are visitation hours as well. There are many opportunities to meet people in your hall and to have fun, but you have to take the initiative.

    Academic Rigor

The university prides itself on its academic rigor in the sciences. If you're majoring in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or concentrating in pre-med, be prepared to work hard. You will definitely receive the grade that you deserve. Although it can be stupidly hard at times and you question yourself why, you have to realize that this is the school that sends the highest percentage of African Americans to Medical School. Once you find an equilibrium between studying and stress-releasors, it won't seem as hard. For Non-science majors, the academic rigor may seem less intense compared to the sciences; however, that doesn't mean that it'll be extremely easy. The teachers in each department want you to succeed in your subject, and will try hard to make sure that you are an expert before you graduate.

    Tips for prospective students

This is the perfect school if you're a student who: - wants an amazing education - doesn't mind doing hard work to get a good grade - dreams of becoming a medical doctor or pharmacist - cares about his/her education

    In three sentences

The university prides itself on its academic rigor in the sciences. The school cares for its students, especially its pre-med majors. It may be expensive to go here, but its worth it in the end.

    Campus Safety

I believe that Xavier is a very safe campus. XU police are always strolling around campus.

    Greek Life

The Greek life on Campus is rather boring; due to the fact that only four of the nine were present at Xavier's campus this year.

    Clubs and Activities

There are numerous clubs for students to be involved in. In the fall, there will be an introduction to the clubs; I would advise students to attend any and all of the clubs meetings that they feel would be of interest to them.

Great for these types of students

Students who want to strive academically and can withstand the pressure of being pushed my professors. Students who can be optimistic about situations and can handle stress really well.

    Bang for the buck

For me, the beginning of first semester was a big disappointment. I felt like Xavier did not offer the college experience that I thought I was going to receive. However; over time I adjusted and accepted Xavier for what it did have to offer and I am proud to say that I will be returning in the fall.

    What to do for fun

For fun, i would advise students to get active. In the University Center there a fliers of up and coming activities. It may not be what you expected it to be however, college is what you make it.

    Food and Dining

Breakfast, lunch, and brunch are always satisfying. Dinner on the other hand, can be inconsistent. Sometimes there will be nothing satisfying to eat in the cafe; especially on weekends.

    Dorm Life

The dorms aren't as pleasant s you would like; however they are secure. There is always an adult staff on duty at the front desk. The dorms are a great way to meet and interact with your peers.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier University really pushes students to thrive academically. The professors are more than willing to help out students. There are also numerous of free tutoring resources which are very beneficial to students.

    Tips for prospective students

Future students should attend all classes because Xavier has an FE policy which they strongly enforce. If you have any questions or concerns don't be afraid to email or go meet with your Professors. Students should also get to know and meet regularly with their adviser to make sure that they are on the right academic track.

The lack of commucation what made me dislike this school. They say you can contact them by email or mail but for email they won't answer you back until 3-4 weeks later or not answer at all. And by mail, they'll probably answer you back. Before I graduated high school I wanted to know what my fiancial aid was, you can look at it through the homepage but everytime I tried to log in it never work. Only a few weeks before school start was when they finally let me to see my fiancial aid. From someone whose has a middle class family, this school is expensive but not that costly as other private schools like Seattle University. I was planing on going there since I got accepted but two weeks before I was about leave for New Orleans out of nowhere the school sends me letter saying I need to pay half of my fall semester fee or they'll cancel my admission. The amount was $6,300, there was no way my parents could get that much out of thin air so they applied for a loan. I was so irritated by the school's 24/7 last minute routine that I decided not to go and also 99% of my fiancial aid from the school were loans with interests and the 1% was my FAFSA.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is very very very easy to get into. As long you have a GPA higher than 2.0 than there's nothing to worry about.

    Campus Safety

Xavier is a relative safe campus. Campus police is always on patrol and there is also emergency phone booths everywhere.

    Clubs and Activities

GET INVOLVED! If you are involved in some campus activity is makes Xavier that more fun. You get to meet all types of people, so being involved helps you make friends. Xavier also has Community Service Saturday's where they wake up at 6 and give back to the community of Gertown until 12-ish. It's not mandatory but it looks good on transcripts and resumes.

Great for these types of students

Xavier is great for students who are really focused on their education. We all want to let loose after a long week, but it usually won't happen until Friday. Xavierites have to really dedicated to working hard.

    What to do for fun

Xavier isn't a party school. So we are forced to find our own fun. Which isn't hard because there is literally always something going on in New Orleans. On campus you will always see people passing out flyers for something that is going on in the city.

    Food and Dining

XULA cooking staff does a wonderful job providing for the students and faculty. Even if they don't have what you are looking for, down the street are plenty of other food places to choose from. Fridays, get in where you fit in. Get there early or you won't get any catfish.

    Dorm Life

I just recently moved on campus for the spring semester last year, and it was alright. The friends I made while staying in the dorms however were well worth the stay. KD (Katherine Drexel, girl dorms) Showering: helpful tip go to the 6th floor and use those showers. I stayed on the 4th floor and those showers were TERRIBLE! Remember to go to all the floor meetings if they have them, or have a friend sign your name, they really check those things. DON'T FORGET YOUR KEY! the ladies at the front desk will make you pay to use the spare, and believe me after a long day the last thing you want to do is deal with the ladies at that front desk. back and forth and back and forth. oh my goodness. AND PLEASE PLEASE REMEMBER THE WATER IN YOUR NOODLES! DON'T LEAVE YOUR POPCORN IN TOO LONG! -- the alarm will go off, and the other girls will want to tar you, especially if happens early in the morning, while its raining and they have an 8 a.m. class.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier is not an easy college. Be prepared to work hard for your grades. Nothing is just handed to you. The teachers are easy to talk too and also work with you if you happen to fall behind. You just have to be willing to put in the time and effort. However if you are student that doesn't make an effort the teacher won't make an effort either. You have to show the teacher that you really want it, do that and you will make it far at Xavier.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to study and work hard. Xavier is high on academics and will help you where you fall short. There are all types of tutoring opportunities on campus. Xavier also has different workshops to better you as a student. Partying, try to keep to just the weekends. Which shouldn't be hard because most of the colleges in the area don't have anything going until the weekend anyway, unless its like homecoming or something. Get involved on campus, it gives you a chance to meet with other students on campus. The more people you know the better. Trust me, someone just might be able to help once you have a problem.

    In three sentences

It happens at Xavier! A phrase that Xavierites hear and also say quiet often. It's almost motivational.

Campus police are lazy and turn their heads. Drugs are easily accessible and alcohol bottles and blunt wraps are found all over the parking lot. Kids even come to class high a lot just to make it through the day. The only reason I give it a three is because everyone is nice, but at night it gets dangerous.

    Greek Life

Campus is way too small for a Greek Life. Your better off getting to know anyone. If you want a Greek Life join a bigger university.

    Clubs and Activities

Forget it. There are many clubs to join, but the students really just attend meetings and do not participate or create any events. The workload here doesn't allow it.

Great for these types of students

Those with no social life and are looking to teach themselves.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only thing traditional about this school is the city it is in.

    Bang for the buck

The reputation is not the same and spending your money here would be a waste.

    What to do for fun

Unless you have friends that attend a different college, there is nothing to do here and it is sad that a school with so much money, is unwilling to really set up any extraordinary events. Xavier expects that New Orleans itself is enough to satisfy it's students search for entertainment and life.

    Food and Dining

The campus dining is terrible. There are several fast food places down the street, but the neighborhood surrounding Xavier is not good.

    Dorm Life

I do not personally live on campus, but several of my friends say that the dorms are old and have no energetic feel to it; almost like a jail.

    Academic Rigor

Lots of hard work and lots of it to do. Catch yourself not being able to go out during the week and only on Friday nights.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is for students that are able to teach themselves and have no social life. Do not come here unless you want to attend a lifeless college that is really only money hungry.

    In three sentences

Xavier offers excursions to different places such as malls, movie theaters, skating rinks, etc. However, if you need to get away (because the campus is usually dead on the weekend) you can always go visit the various parts of New Orleans.

    Food and Dining

The food is O.K., nothing more, nothing less. Red beans and rice is served every Monday for lunch, and fried catfish is served every Friday. Of course, there are other things - there is always pizza, burgers, a salad bar, and other options. I'm not sure the food is particularly healthy, but it's edible.

    Dorm Life

I can only speak for the freshman girls' dorm, which is your typical, low-quality freshman dorm. There are community bathrooms, so be prepared to deal with different people, with different hygiene levels.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier is not easy, but you will definitely learn. Teachers don't pass out free As. A lot of classes require some form of group work. If you need help in a class, teachers are more than willing to help you understand the material, and if you don't want to ask them, there are other labs and resources on campus where you can get help or tutoring.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to Xavier expecting the college life you see on television. Xavier is a small school, and there is nowhere near as many people or as much activity. Also, this is a Catholic institution, so there are rules on this campus.

    In three sentences

Xavier University of Louisiana is a great school to attend, if you're focused on getting an education. Socially, Xavier is purely what you make of it. Overall, it's a good place to get your education and move forward.

    Campus Safety

I love campus safety. There are always officers around and emergency phones across campus just incase. There are always hurricane and flood warnings to our phone, which help me keep a peace of mind.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I don't think it's very odd, but freshmen have a capping ceremony to help us become part of the Xavierite family. We get baseball caps that we exchange for our graduation caps when we graduate. The chant that we say is very empowering and motivational. I was almost in tears at the end of it, but I felt very happy.

    What to do for fun

There are events going on on campus all the time. Lunchtime is so fun because sometimes they play music and just have small, alcohol-free parties. There is also a pool and ping pong table in the University Center, which is also fun and leisurely.

    Food and Dining

The food is good and cheap for those living on campus. They have something different yet they have catfish Friday and Red Beans and Rice Monday, unless it's the other way around. The consistency helps us to keep a balanced diet and we never have to guess what we're eating on Monday and Friday. Dinner isn't as tasty as lunch but it's still a balanced diet.

    Dorm Life

I don't actually live in dorms but from what I hear from other students, it's very expensive and it's ok.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor is very high. I love it. I love that Xavier is academically oriented and it motivates me. Everywhere you go, you see someone studying or reading. It creates an atmosphere that makes us all want to be better. It's got a competitive air to it that just makes me so happy. I came from a magnet high school which was also very academically oriented.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to create a schedule including your classes, sleeping, eating, and studying time and make sure to stick to that schedule! If you need help then there are people everywhere willing to help. Keep on track with your classes but don't overwhelm yourself with hours, split it up if you need to.

    In three sentences

Xavier is very academically oriented and I love that. We aren't a party crazy college and the students and faculty are very welcoming and friendly. I can always get my studying done and there are tutoring sessions and help everywhere you go!

    Campus Safety

Xavier is a very open campus but we do have our own police station and XUPD is always patrolling the campus.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is different here than at most HBCU's. The Greeks hold a lot of campus events but I would say if you have no interest in becoming Greek that their presence is not obnoxious.

    Clubs and Activities

Xavier has tons of on campus organizations. One of the perks of being a Xavierite is having a voice in what takes place on campus. The whole campus is involved in Student Body Meetings and Class Meetings. Our campus has an organization for EVERYTHING down to your major to your favorite hobby!

Great for these types of students

One of the great things about Xavier is anyone can fit in here. For outgoing personalities there is always something happing on campus and for more reserved studious people there are tons of academic clubs and small study rooms.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is high but it's definitely worth the money.

    What to do for fun

Xavier is located 10 mins from the world famous Bourbon Street if you ever need a get away from the study life. If the night life isn't your scene there are tons of restaurants to go get lost in the local cajun cuisine. Being one of the first major ports in the New World, New Orleans is rich with French flavor as well as many interesting historic sites.

    Food and Dining

The Cafe doesn't have the best reputation for the best food but it's tolerable. If all else fails there is always Jazzman's cafe!

    Dorm Life

The dorms are very convenient but aren't really that luxurious. However the freshman experience isn't quite complete without a story from living KD or the Mikes.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier is a great school academically and most courses will be challenging. Take any Science or Mathematic course and you will learn why it is the number one school for placing African-Americans in Pharmacy and Medical School. Although the courses are challenging Xavier provides a lot of outside help, they have tutoring centers as well as classes that are slower paced just to make sure students have every opportunity to do well in whatever course they may be taking.

    Tips for prospective students

Get Involved and Stay Involved. As a freshman you will have the opportunity to take a course called XU Leads. This is a great way to meet people who share common interests quickly. There are also tons of Student organizations like Xavier Activities Board (XAB). Being a member of XAB is great way to not only make friends but it also keeps you informed about what activities are taking place on campus especially when you're the one planning it!

    In three sentences

When you choose to attend Xavier University of Louisiana you choose to become apart of the HBCU family. When you become a Xavierite you are part of the family for life. A family you feel as if you've been missing your whole life.

    Campus Safety

Xavier is located in the middle of a neighborhood, but there are always campus police patrolling the area for the students safety.

    Greek Life

Currently, the Delta sorority and the Alpha fraternity are the most popular Greek organizations at Xavier.

    Clubs and Activities

I like the clubs at Xavier and there is always something going on on-campus.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Xavier is very expensive, but I believe the education each student receives is worth the money. Plus, Xavier is known for offering a lot of scholarships.

    What to do for fun

Typically, in order to have fun at Xavier you have to participate in events on campus and party off campus.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is pretty good. Sometimes, it tastes a little bland, but after adding salt and pepper it usually tastes appetizing. There are also coffee, poboys, and smoothie shops on campus. Off campus, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from that are nearby.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms could be so much better, but they are livable. Luckily, the higher the classification the better the dorms. I would have to say the biggest complaint is the curfew.

    Academic Rigor

At Xavier, you will have to study for each class. If you did not have good study habits in high school, change them before you get to here. Otherwise, the beginning of your first semester will be more challenging. Also, no grade is given. Grades are only earned. Plus, succeeding in a course after working hard is very rewarding.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Come to Xavier with your priorities straight...Remember why you are at Xavier in the first place = to get an amazing education 2. Xavier is not a party school...There are opportunities to party, but they are not located on campus 3. Get involved...Participating in community service and organizations throughout your college experience is very important here

    In three sentences

Xavier University of Louisiana is a great school if you want to become a physician or pharmacist. Of course, it's only great if you are willing to put in the work that teachers require of you. If you are looking for a school where the faculty goes above and beyond to help you learn and understand, come to Xavier!

Xavier does have a neighborhood within the campus. Be smart, don't walk alone at night. This is New Orleans, so please be careful.

    Greek Life

I have no experience in this area. I hear that they throw awesome house parties, but I've never gone.

    Clubs and Activities

Eh...We have many service clubs, but you need to search to find a club you like.

Great for these types of students

    Everybody!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Dancing. You'll see when you get down here.

    Bang for the buck

It depends how much you're shelling out of pocket. While all colleges are what you make them, you don't want to squander your funds at a school not for you. All the classes are small, average 20 students and under but this school is expensive. I encourage those who have scholarships to come.

    What to do for fun

This is New Orleans. I'm sure you can think of something -cough French Quarters, Museums, Food Tours- Xavier does provide some events for students and will shuttle them if it's off campus. There's a bus stop right up the street from the campus, making getting anywhere in the city easy. As long as you know the bus routes.

    Food and Dining

The food in the cafeteria is a hit or miss. Personally, I like the fish dishes. There isn't a wide variety of foods, but you get used to it, or go spend money elsewhere.

    Dorm Life

Unfortunately the freshman dorms are not awesome. There is a curfew (12:00 Sunday-Thursday and 2:00 Friday & Saturday) and the bathrooms are hall bathrooms. On the upside, the RA's schedule cute get togethers for the floors to mingle.

    Academic Rigor

While this depends on the classes you take, all the classes will challenge you to become a better student. Learning to manage your time effectively will become a must. (Gotta balance between school dominating your life, and not getting any schoolwork done at all.)

    Tips for prospective students

If you have a question, ask! People will be ready to help. Don't slack off on your schoolwork. New Orleans is a huge city, you don't have to explore all of it your freshman year. Pace yourself.

    In three sentences

At first I wasn't sure about Xavier, but once I attended one of their many summer programs I realized this school would be good for me. The classes are tiny, teachers personable, and the classes rigorous. The campus, students, and faculty grew on me, and I'm now proud to call Xavier my home.

    Greek Life

Greek life is so-so at Xavier. Fortunately it has been improving, but it will never be anything you may see at larger universities.

    Clubs and Activities

Xavier's activities board keeps events pumped out on campus every week, so this is a nice small reprieve from studying.

Great for these types of students

Students who are serious about the sciences or pre-meds should attend Xavier.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus isn't large and neither is the population, so you won't find anything like this.

    Bang for the buck

Xavier will get you to where you want to be professionally, if you put in the work. But you may not gain the full college experience here.

    What to do for fun

You live in the city of New Orleans, THE crescent city! What is there not to do for fun? Plus Xavier's greeks do a pretty good job with keeping events on campus.

    Food and Dining

Staffed by Sodexo, its pretty basic food. Nothing that's gross or anything, but its not 5 star restaurant.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms can be improved on, but after that its smooth sailing!

    Academic Rigor

Xavier's academics will push you to the limits, do not come here if you believe it to be a party school.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you apply early for early decision. Keep in contact with admissions and financial aid so that you will stay on top of your application and fees. Be prepared for a vigorous school year.

    Food and Dining

It's not the best, and it's not the worst.

    Dorm Life

    What to do for fun

New Orleans is definitely a destination city, so if you're looking to do something for fun, there are plenty of opportunities to find it. The art and history museums are my favorites and you can't forget about Lakeside Mall. There is quite a nightlife downtown on the weekends. No matter what you may choose to do, always make sure you are aware of your surrounding. Stay safe.

    Food and Dining

New Orleans is really a city full of ethnic diversity with its French, Caribbean, African flair. There is an abundance of soul food, and creole favorites that span from neighborhood corner stores, in to places for fine dining. Manchu's and Cheesecake Bistro tend to be among my favorites. For those that like to stick with the traditional cuisine, no fear for there are plenty of chain restaurants there as well. Maybe takes a chance and try one of the city's most acclaimed Po-boy sandwiches. You won't be disappointed. There is something here for everyone whether you're vegan, kosher, ethnic or looking for something unique.

    Dorm Life

The dorms get progressively better as you go along your time as a student. First year, if you are living on campus, you will be required to live in a same sex dorm. Second year girls are required to do the same. After that you can live coed or rent houses around the campus if you would like.

    Academic Rigor

Xavier definitely does have a rigorous chemistry program, but that's only because they want to make sure that we are prepared by the time that we graduate. The University stay's true to its mission statement to prepare its students to assume roles of leadership and service in hopes of promoting of a more just and humane society and I find that rather admirable.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you are ready to work hard and always take advantage of your campus resources. The tutoring centers are very helpful. even if you don't feel that you need it, it is better to be over prepared than lacking.

    In three sentences

The café has its good and bad days, but most days the food isn't that bad. Sometimes you get tired of eating the same thing everyday. For instances, there's always going to be pizza. You have a little variety, but if you don't want anything in the café there's always Jazzmin's, that's the schools little café shop, or you can go to subway, mcdonald's etc. that's far from campus.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is really what you make it out to be. They freshmen dorms aren't the best, but once again its what you make it. You can have some pretty amazing memories in the dorms. Once you become an upperclassmen dorms get better, or you can move off campus.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Recognize the environment 2) Adjust to the change in academic requirements 3)Create a solid friend group 4)Time management 5) Get involved

    What to do for fun

I have found a campus bible study group that meets weekly. This, along with some other activities, has helped me continue my journey of spiritual growth. I also sing on the campus choir.

    Tips for prospective students

USE EVERY RESOURCE AVAILABLE, and don't forget that you are more than just a student. There are times when you must find an outlet for social development as well.

    In three sentences

I love XULA because of the student diversity, the rich culture of the university and the support (both academic and social) I receive. Simply put...the professors care and are willing to work with you.

    Campus Safety

The campus is very safe, Xavier Police and New Orleans Police Dept. are always driving around campus for your aid. Whether it be your'e hungry and have no ride, to a flat tire they are always there. There are also emergency buttons in case of urgent matters.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is available, but not a huge thing on because it is such a small population that attends Xavier. We try to make it as fun and known that the greeks are around and near.

    Clubs and Activities

Xavier makes clubs for literally everything. Abstinence, Stress,Drug abuse, and Science. If you feel it and have people behind you supporting, there's your club. And the school supports each and everyone if appropriate.

    What to do for fun

After all studying there is need for recreation, and the city of New Orleans is full of good whole-sum, safe fun. With the city already being a tourist attraction there are a multitude of art galleries, theaters and restaurants.

    Food and Dining

There is a dining hall available in the University Center. Food is usually pretty good, the cafeteria staff tries to have a variety of foods, as well as keeping up with traditional New Orleans meals. On weekdays breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is from 7am-9am, Lunch is from 11am-2pm and Dinner is from 5pm-7pm, as well as brunch on the weekends.

    Dorm Life

Freshmen girls are required to live in the living quarters of KD short for Kathrine Drexel, it one of the oldest buildings but has been renovated for for the safety and well being of students, The young men live in a separate living quarters called ST. Mike's. There are visitations hours for both, the first day of visitation starts on Thursday-Sunday from 6pm-11pm.

    Academic Rigor

Although there is personal relationships with professors, that only is on your side to a certain extent. Xavier is all about grades, they will push you past yours limits, you will become overwhelmed but if you prove your efforts, you will succeed.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely watch your crowds, stray away from being that freshmen. Parties will always be there living in city of New Orleans, so no distractions, make sure you are on top of your academics. Don't be afraid to ask for help, take full advantage of the resource center.

    In three sentences

Academically every staff member at Xavier is on your side for you to achieve nothing but success. The classrooms are of a smaller than an average University setting and that allows a more personal and hands on relationship with students and professors. Resource centers are available for a wide variety of the majors. All I can say is It really does happen at Xavier.

    Campus Safety

Of course, there are campus police, and it's quite safe during the day. Though I don't live on campus, I heard it's kind of dangerous at night. The school is located in Uptown New Orleans and isn't very far from Delgado Community College and Tulane University (New Orleans location) near Canal Rd.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a sufficient amount of clubs and activities, though I don't attend them. The school sends out a virtual newsletter via Xavier email almost every week that describes upcoming activities and club meetings.

Great for these types of students

Like to stay busy with work

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Social Sciences/Financial Aid department is located in an area called Xavier South. (You can see the Super Dome from here) The way the campus is set up, to get to Xavier South, one must walk past some occupied houses, which I thought was very strange the first time I experienced this. The school started small and slowly expanded, but the land in between the main campus and the Social Sciences/ Financial Aid department was already taken and has yet to be made available for the school to buy. The area is very urban, and most people park on the street to avoid paying for a parking permit to be eligible to park in the parking lots. The school is constantly building or adding new sections to the campus. The school also requires freshmen to take a class called Freshmen Seminar, where students learn about Xavier's history and is supposed to help students transition from high school to college, though most people think it's just a waste of time and isn't helpful at all.

    Bang for the buck

Considering I was on a scholarship, I thought that the quality of education and resources offered was fair. This is a private institution, so it's pretty expensive: tuition is around $18000 a year + $4000-$5000 room & board + $2000-$3000 fees + around $200-$300 for books. There are also other random things you have to pay for when attending. I'm a chemistry major and was recommended/required to buy a $2 laminated periodic table that could be used on tests, a $35 lab coat, and $5 lab goggles.

    What to do for fun

Study (just kidding) Basketball/ volleyball/ tennis games Has a little recreational area that has ping-pong tables Located 10-15 minutes away from mall and movie theater

    Food and Dining

Has a nice cafeteria buffet-serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner's specials sometimes are baked chicken or fried catfish. ($7 for buffet) Also has a cafe that sells typical cafe foods and drinks, such as salads, tuna sandwiches, fruit cups, coffee, but also sells po-boys. During lunch, you can order a po-boy, and they'll make it fresh and ready in a few minutes!

    Dorm Life

Heard the Freshmen dorms weren't that nice, though the new buildings that house the the other classes look nice. The Freshmen dorms are located right in the middle of the main campus area, the older classes' dorms are located farther. (6-10 minute walk from the cafeteria)

    Academic Rigor

I'm really only familiar with the chemistry department, which is very competitive and requires quite some studying. I'm currently a Freshman and have to write papers almost every week or every other week for other classes, such as Sociology and English. There are usually 2 chemistry quizzes every week, one for lab and one for lecture. This school is known for its medical programs, and so, most of the people here are chemistry or biology majors. This means that most of what everyone does is study. Freshmen year is pretty easy though, and some pharmacy students say it doesn't get hard until the third year.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in attending this university, make sure you apply early. This school gives out hundreds, or maybe even thousands, of scholarships. You only need an ACT score of 28 or higher to be eligible to receive a full scholarship. If you have a score just a little lower, for example, a 25, guess what you are eligible to receive...a tuition-paid ride to Xavier! (Fees and books not included) Be warned, however, that the chemistry and biology work is quite a shock to most, but the teachers are amazing! Some people complain that the atmosphere or environment of the school is boring, since it's students are known to work first, and play later.

    In three sentences

Choose this school if you are interested in attending a school where you don't have to worry about partying all night. This school promotes a strict educational environment, aided by the fact that it doesn't have a football team. The school is, however, located in a culturally rich city, and you can actually see the Mercedes-Benz Super Dome from the campus.

    What to do for fun

The city is very lively. Going to the french quarter is fun. Hanging out with friends on campus is cool as well.

    Food and Dining

Mostly everyone eats at the Cafe. It is a buffet. They feed you three meals a day.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are separated by gender for underclassmen. The dorms are kind of small. The showers are community.

    Academic Rigor

It is a pretty challenging school. There are plenty of resources to help you with your studies. The teachers care about your success.

    Tips for prospective students

Start looking for scholarships early because the school is expensive. Great school for science majors. Students thinking about pharmacy should really look into this school.

    In three sentences

Xavier University of Louisiana is a fairly good school. It is easy to get in. It is hard to stay in.

    Campus Safety

The campus to me seems to be very secure. I have never felt insecure or afraid for my safety at any time. Though the campus is located in a not so reputable area, I feel that the Xavier campus is much respected. There are campus police that monitor the campus 24/7 and are always available if needed, but I have yet to see any serious incidents occur on campus. The only incident I have heard of is one in which a student used indiscretion while off of campus. If I could give any suggestion, it would be to always travel in groups when off of the campus and to always stay in well-populated areas. Avoid using streets that are secluded and always let people know where you are going. These are basic steps that probably everyone knows, but can actually be very helpful in reducing the chances of any incidents. As long as good decisions are made there should not be any problems. But as far as the campus goes, there is not much need to worry because everything is for the most part under control.

    Greek Life

My knowledge is extremely limited on the Greek Life at Xavier but one thing I have heard from upper classmen is that it can be quite expensive. However, do not let this discourage you from participating, for it can be the experience of a lifetime.

    Clubs and Activities

One club that I am well aware of is the X-Men Squad. They are a strong group of individuals who attend sporting events, namely basketball games, and support Xavier to fullest. They are full of spirit and are sure to make themselves heard at any event they attend.

Great for these types of students

Xavier is great for the students who are able to apply themselves to their work and studies. It is great for the students that have adequate self-control and can force themselves to work now rather than later. Dr. Norman C. Francis, the President of Xavier University of Louisiana says, â??Do not put off tomorrow, what you can do today.â?? And at Xavier, there cannot be a more true statement, because staying on top of work and studies is one of the crucial keys to success. As long as you can stay focused amongst distractions and such, keeping on top of what you are responsible for, you will be just fine.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

One tradition I found unusual at Xavier was the midnight breakfast. This is where the cafeteria serves breakfast food late at night around the beginning of finals. It is a time that the students gather to get some nutrition in the midst of their studies. It is a refresher of some sorts, to help the students relax a little before finals begin. I have found it to be quite enjoyable and it is a tradition that I most certainly will be looking forward to attending in the future.

    Bang for the buck

Xavier is a very expensive college, but it does provide an education that would be deemed worth the expenses. Being that Xavier is number one in placing African Americans into medical school is a prime example that speaks for itself. If you are willing to work hard then the education is certainly worth it, but if the education provided is not taken advantage of, you will be doing yourself a disservice. The bottom line is, you will get the bang for your buck if you apply yourself, otherwise it will be a waste of time and money. So make sure that if Xavier is your choice, you take care of your business when the time comes.

    What to do for fun

For fun, there are quite a few things available. For one, there are various sporting events to be a part of. Basketball and volleyball games are most always present in the new Convocation Center and are loads of fun. Next, there is also open gym throughout the week in the convocation center where pickup basketball games are held and occasionally even volleyball. There is also table tennis and billiards tables located in the lobby of St. Michaels Residence Hall and also on the second floor of the University Center. In addition there are many programs provided by the Resident Advisors which can be very entertaining as well. There are even occasional trips available that will take you off campus which are quite enjoyable. In the past, there have been trips to the mall, to the park and even to Mississippi for a retreat. I can even recall a fishing trip that was taken in association with St. Michaels Residence Hall. Lastly, there are many community service opportunities available. Not everyone participates in community service but, I have found these projects to be personally gratifying. As you can see, there are many opportunities here to enjoy, especially when fellow students are involved.

    Food and Dining

Food provided by the cafeteria can be variable. On some days the food is absolutely amazing but on other days it is not so great. On the other hand there is most always a variety of choices for you to choose from. So if one thing does not taste so good, you can try your luck with something else. Outside of the school, there are several fast food restaurants that are within walking distance of the school campus. There are also many restaurants around the city of New Orleans. They are not walking distance but can be perfect to get a taste of New Orleans culture.

    Dorm Life

I find dorm life at Xavier to be quite enjoyable. Because Xavier is a smaller school, I find that the relationships I create within the dorm are more closely knit together. Everyone on my particular hall acts as if they were a family. We all make sure that we keep on top of our work, helping each other when needed. Where one person lacks in understanding there is another person that understands well, and through this network we help each other stay on top of our own tasks and assignments. When all business is taken care of, we then look to have a little fun amongst ourselves, whether it is table tennis in the lobby or movie night in our rooms. As for the actual dorm rooms, they are of adequate size including a bed, desk, closet, air conditioning unit and shelves. The residence hall for freshman males is located in a very old but solid and sturdy building equipped with a study room, multiple bathrooms and showers on each floor and entertainment in the lobby. The halls for the freshman females are located in a much larger and newer building which is required for the high female to male ratio. Both halls have regulated visitation hours from the end of the week throughout the weekend. The residence halls for freshman are not the best but conditions change for the better as you move up in classification. Though the conditions are not the best, I enjoy and will continue to enjoy my freshman on campus experience. It is all about what you make of it.

    Academic Rigor

The academic course load and challenges presented at Xavier University of Louisiana are quite rigorous. The work and information can be extremely difficult if the student does not stay properly prepared. Here at Xavier, preparation requires regular study and completion of assignments. Without taking these crucial steps it is very difficult to perform well. One of the main reasons that the academic system is set up this way is to prepare students for medical school and graduate school. When attending Xavier it is automatically assumed that you will be pursuing a degree higher than a bachelorâ??s. Either way, attending Xavier will assure you a quality education.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should come ready to work, and on this I place emphasis. Take note that I am writing this from the perspective of a science major, but the volume of work that must be done throughout the semester is quite large and can at sometimes seem unbearable. However, you should not let this put you off. Xavier is a great school and the loads of work are only present to ensure that you know the information. Push through and keep on top of all homework and assignments, and in the end you are sure to be thankful. Another topic I would like to place emphasis on is, study. Be sure to keep on top of all information learned by studying on the regular. It is easier said than done, but the best method is to review information on the daily in order to keep it fresh. This is for the reasons that information tends to build off of previous topics and if you do not learn the basics, it is more difficult to understand concepts learned later. The information is crucial also because of quizzes known and unknown which are serious business. They may not be worth many points but they are quite frequent and will add up either helping or hindering your grade. One other thing to be aware of is your scheduling. Be sure to get a copy of the course catalog and do your own scheduling. Otherwise your classes will be randomly selected leaving you more susceptible to mistakes which can cause major problems in the future. So, be sure to double check your schedule to ensure you are in appropriate classes. For additional support, it would be wise to make an appointment with an advisor from the head of the department of your intended major.

    In three sentences

Xavier University of Louisiana is an outstanding school full of outstanding individuals. Being that Xavier is number one for placing African Americans in medical school is a testimony in itself. If you come ready and willing to work, Xavier will not disappoint.

    Campus Safety

Although our campus is located in a neighborhood, the campus is extremely safe. The neighbors are friendly. Our police department have daily and nightly patrols. Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are not good. Once you get to the other living centers at Xavier they are extremely nice and very beautiful. The only thing is the curfew, but you can sign out and then come back at a later time.

    Academic Rigor

The academic side of it is very hard, I will be honest, but if you stay on top of your work and use the resources that Xavier has to offer, you will be successful.

    Tips for prospective students

The most important thing to remember when attending Xavier University of Louisiana, or any other university, is to stay focused and goal oriented. Procrastination is a big problem for many college students, and you never want to fall behind. Always do your best, and always be on time.

    Campus Safety

The campus is safe for the most part. The campus police are good a patrolling and I have never heard of anyone getting hurt on campus. Now there is a community right in the middle of our campus called Gurt Town. Its really not that dangerous but I wouldn't recommend going out by yourself because you can never be too sure.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs to choose from and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be apart of one.

Great for these types of students

This school is great if you want to major in: Biology/Pre-Med Chemistry Pharmacy Psychology Pre-Law

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Xavier is a Catholic institution so they have a campus chapel and you will have to attend service during your orientation week.

    Bang for the buck

Xavier is expensive but compared to a lot of public and private schools in the U.S Xavier is very inexpensive. From my personal opinion I believe that Xavier is a great buy and they are very generous with scholarships so you will have some help paying for college.

    What to do for fun

This is New Orleans so there are a ton of places you can go to have a good time. This includes the French Quarter, Canal St. and the infamous Bourbon St. Also, the city is so small so you won't get lost. You should be careful though because New Orleans is a dangerous city and if your in the wrong place at the wrong time you can get hurt.

    Food and Dining

The food at Xavier gets better every year but they still lack variety. You can expect to always have red beans for lunch on Mondays and catfish for lunch on Fridays. Throughout the week it just becomes a guessing game and to be honest you may not like what they offer. But please don't be tempted by the fast food around campus because you will definitely gain the Freshman 15.

    Dorm Life

I gave Xavier's dorm life a 3 out of 5 because it can be so DRY. I remember always being bored on the weekends during my freshman year. There are no parties but the staff definitely try to make the best of it by having programs in the dorm hall lobby. There is a curfew at Xavier so don't expect to be out all night long going down Bourbon St.

    Academic Rigor

I gave Xavier's academic rigor a 4 out of 5 because they definitely have a great variety of professors who engage with you and help you do whatever it is you need to do. However, Xavier does force classes on you, even if your an Art Major you will still have to take a biology class and an African American studies class.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not come to Xavier expecting one party after another, this is NOT a party school whatsoever. If you are planning a career in the medical field however, Xavier is the place to be. This college gets more students into medical school than any other HBCU.

    In three sentences

Xavier is a fantastic school that has Catholicism as its backbone. It is a proud HBCU and it definitely has its perks. The only problem I have would have to be the social life.
