This is a reasonable affordable college that has so much to offer.

    Am enjoying being here

There are always so many activities to do on campus and there is a few things to do around campus.

    Am learning a lot

so far i have only taken core classes but they were very useful to my major. The college will not put you in classes you don't need.

Great for these types of students

Anybody that likes a small but serious atmosphere.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure your work comes first, and you will be just fine. You shouldn't be here if you're not serious.

    Bang for the buck

You are not paying a lot to be here but you are definately getting your monies worth. It's a wonderful learning environment and you are sure to have a blast.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always something to do around campus. Concerts, Relay for Life, club sports, collegiate sports, a brand new, amazing workout center complete with rock climbing wall. Not to mention the fraternities and sororities which are always doing something.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much in my first three semesters here. The classes are generally small, so there is great professor/student ratio's. They are amusing and easy to get along with and are always willing to help. And the Learning Resource Center is always available if you are ever in need of extra assistance.

Great for these types of students

York has an excellent chem/science program. I'm a business major and I think the program is great and the professors really know what they're talking about and they enjoy helping their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit the campus, and ask questions of the students at while on the tour to get a feel of how others feel about the school.

    Bang for the buck

The education I am receiving here is excellent, York College was ranked number 13 among the best regional colleges in the North by U.S News 2011 Best College's Edition. For a private college, York is extremely affordable.

    Am enjoying being here

There's so much to do on campus, there's a lot of clubs to get involved in and CAB always has an event to go to on campus. The surrounding area offers a lot of different qualities, some areas have a city feel, while others have a small town suburban feel, so there's different variations of areas surrounding campus. The school is also an hour from Baltimore, MD and an hour from Hersey, PA.

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are small which I think is great because it gives you a chance to form a bond with the professor and they know who their students are and the teachers really want to help their students do well.

Great for these types of students

Anyone would easily fit in at York. The student population was so friendly, something I really didn't find at the other colleges I visited. Everyone greeted me; I would highly recommend considering York College of Pennsylvania in your college search.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus! It's absolutely beautiful, and I know you'll fall in love with it as quickly as I did.

    Bang for the buck

Scholarships galor! York makes it easy to get financial aid. They are a very affordable private college. The only aspect I would complain about is the untimely fashion in which financial aid returns phone calls. After I met with the financial aid office [on a Tuesday], I was told to call on Friday to make sure everything was in check. I called once in the morning and again in the afternoon: no answer. They didn't get back to me until I called again on Tuesday (after leaving a message on Monday). I understand that colleges are busy, especially at this time of year, but they should make haste when they request that you call.

    Will enjoy being here

So many student activities were described to me during my visit. The athletics/intramurals sounded like so much fun! Even the gym was amazing. They have a fitness center, racquetball courts, basketball courts, and even a rock-climbing wall! Outdoor activities flourish on campus. The beautiful landscaping makes it easy for students to host activities.

    Will learn a lot

I hear fantastic reviews of York's academic standing. Small class sizes make it easy for students to ask questions and really form a relationship with their professors. Unlike many colleges, I won't be just a number at York; professors will know my name.

Not the most expensive school and not the cheapest, but your definitely getting your money’s worth by going here. And for those students who are doing it on their own it is a great price.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many opportunities at York, you can join a sorority or fraternity and even if that’s not for you there are clubs and other activities to get into. There are plenty of things to do surrounding the college such as the mall or local hot spots. Your defiantly meet a lot of new people and since other students at York have friendly attitudes, it is easy to do.

    Am learning a lot

With the core classes, York offers you an opportunity to try new things and offers a wide variety of all types of classes. For the classes required for a major there are plenty of advisors you can go talk to with any questions and get the most out of your education.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit York! Get to know what is around the city. There are many different things to do here, you just have to find them. My friends and I found a great $2 movie theater. As college students, we don't have much money to go out. This is just one thing that we let other people know about. But the city is nice, other than the bad parts. Yes, there is crime. There's crime in every city. Don't let that deter you. Visit York and see what everything is about!

    Bang for the buck

As far as nursing goes, YCP is worth the money. I don't know if I would suggest a person to come here and pay all of this money if it is possible to get a similar degree at a state school. It also depends on what you want. This is a great smaller school. I believe that it is worth the money because I love the small classes and the education.

    Am enjoying being here

As it is with a lot of colleges, there are not a lot of things to do on the weekends. York does VERY well at providing different trips and activities on the weekend. We also have a lot of things to do around the school. Every week there is a new movie that we get to see before it comes out on dvd and we have a lot of reality show contestants come to host entertainment.

    Am learning a lot

York is known for their Nursing program. I mainly came here because of that. I know that York isn't known for most other programs and they do not have some of the strongest programs out there. As far as nursing and engineering go, this is where to attend. If you want a good, in depth education to prepare you for working in a hospital, this is where you want to go.

    Campus Safety

Awful. I haven't heard of ONE TIME they protected a student. This is what makes me think most of the reviews on here are paid--no one I know of who goes to this school (except students who are campus safety officers) like campus safety. They spend all their time citing drunk kids, while at the same time allowing ARMED ROBBERIES to occur ON CAMPUS. Hell, last year there was a man with a sawn off shotgun walking around on campus and they couldn't catch him. Not to mention the string of armed robberies around Grumbacher. They give nice timely warnings but that occurs after the fact. All they do is hurt the school. Lockout procedures are the only thing they're good for sadly. And again, they are VERY strict on drinking. I saw them sitting outside Northside one night waiting for kids to come back from Jackson, then citing them no matter if they looked drunk or not. Wasn't always like this (back in the good ol days) and I really hope our new president fixes this. It must be awful for freshman now.

    Greek Life

Used to be great here. More and more frats/sororities are having their letters taken away. Kind of sad really.

    Clubs and Activities

Few clubs offered, almost impossible to start up (hence the bureaucratic part)

    Bang for the buck

    Pretty cheap school, comparatively.

    What to do for fun

You can join the few clubs offered on campus (good luck making a new one), that's about it. You can attempt drinking at parties but even if you're 21 it's a risk due to how strict the cops and school are about it. $150 fines aren't fun.

    Food and Dining

Scurv is hit or miss. I swear they put laxatives in the food, though.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are great to live in, but I give this a 1 because they really remind me of a prison. God forbid you watch the TV a little too loud, this makes campus safety come and perform full room searches. Luckily I had no alcohol in my room, but if I did it would have instigated an entire judicial process. Not much fun allowed here.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the major. Engineering and nursing are both very difficult and regimented. The other sciences are challenging too. Business is so-so, but it's getting more rigorous since they are expanding the department. Humanities isn't bad, but is quite easy from what I've noticed.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want a school with a social scene at all, I would not recommend YCP at this time. 5 years ago I would have, but no more. Academics are good though, at least.

    In three sentences

Good academics, social scene is pretty terrible. New president may change this, but it's doubtful. Also very bureaucratic.

    Campus Safety

campus safety is always sending out incident alerts on your my ycp home page. they let you know when, where, and what exactly happened. they want you to be informed of what is going on around you. they also provide the option of allowing them to alert you if something terrible happens. you give them your phone number and they will text you if anything should happen. they will test out the emergency text system throughout the year and will let you know that you should be expecting a text on your ycp. this way you can feel assured that you will always know if there is an emergency or problem in your area.

    Bang for the buck

york college is relatively low. last year (2011) they had to increase the price from around $14,000 to mid $15,000 a year. they were not to happy to do this and if i remember correctly - they apologized for increase in tuition. for as good standing as york college is i honestly cant believe their low rate. fantastic teachers, constantly improving grounds, and great programs for about 15 a year? i consider that a really good deal. i have no problem putting out that money for an education from york college.

    What to do for fun

there is always stuff to do. you are constantly getting emails about things coming up, events planned, seminars, lectures, games, matches, meets, musical concerts, high regarded people coming to give presentations of all fields, dances, career fairs, carnivals, and even some concerts. cab (campus activities board) does a lot to give a variety of things to do while on campus. flyers are posted in all of the buildings, the website for york college lists the upcoming events and york will email you of things you may be interested in according to what major you have declared.

    Food and Dining

there is some kind of food place in almost all of the buildings. this makes it nice because no matter where you are, you can grab a snack before class. the food itself is pretty good. johnson dining hall is a good place to go if you are really hungry. all you can eat for about $9.00 without a meal deal which most residents will get. the smaller places found around campus are good places to grab a warm coffee or hot chocolate on those cold days and an energy drink on your slow groggy days. each place will have some of the same items while keeping the variety between them. the food at these smaller places are great. bagels, fajitas, donuts, cookies, fruit cups, muffins, salads, wraps and chip bags are some of the items you will find throughout campus. these little stop and go places, all have seating if you wish to stay and good prices for what you get. overall very good variety, quality and value.

    Dorm Life

i, myself did not stay in a dorm. my friends have told me that it got some getting used to, but they enjoy it. what i can tell you is about commuting. because york college is mostly a resident school, they do not close or have delays a lot. rarely ever actually. this makes it hard for commuters because in the winter months, if snow occurs, all the schools in the area may be closed while york college doesn't even have a delay. some of the teachers will be understanding, but the school itself will not.

    Academic Rigor

academics at york college of pa are hard enough that you aren't sleeping through class, but easy enough that if you want to succeed, ask for help and study- you will do great. they challenge you, while keeping in mind that you do have a life, sometimes work, and sometimes a drive to get there. the teachers are very free to do what they want so the level of difficulty, length of class, grading system, and type of class is up to the professor. this makes class much more interesting than having all your professors do the same thing in all of your classes. all of the teachers are there for you. if you need help and ask.. they will help you.

    Tips for prospective students

come prepared. york college is not the easiest college. it has a very good reputation to uphold. all colleges are a wake up call for even the best students coming from high school. and york college does not disappoint. personally, i never had to study for high school and i was a straight a student- distinguished honor roll every time. i knew i would have to study for college, but it still was a wake up call. you have to be committed to your education. if you are - you will do great at york college.

    In three sentences

york college is a well organized, beautiful school with plenty of helpful people. the organized layout of campus makes it easy for you to find your way around to your fun, but challenging classes. the college overall is recognized as being a great school for all programs, especially the nursing and education programs that are offered at york college.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety patrols a lot, and is really good at catching people breaking the law. However, because the college is so close to York City there is a bit of crime. The college is always extremely diligent in addressing these issues, and York City isn't nearly as bad as a lot of other cities are. My biggest gripe is the time delay between an incident occurring and the timely warning that is sent out to students.

    Greek Life

Greek life is really small on campus. You don't need to join a frat or sorority to have a good social life, but it does make you more connected. I have found that the Greek organizations at YCP does have some of the nicest people in them.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs to join! There's literally a club for everyone on campus, and those who can't find anything are free to start their own. Clubs have really played a huge part in my year thus far, and most clubs are really active about encouraging member bonding and helping the community.

Great for these types of students

Students who want more. Students who are unafraid to work for what they want, but are also looking for a close relationship with professors and peers. Anyone who wants a smaller college with small class sizes will adore York.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every year after graduation, the senior paint the rock with their names. Their names stay on the rock until the next commencement, where they are painted over. It's really humbling to know that your name will forever live on at the college, below and above all the students that existed before you! Also, all freshman experience a mock commencement during orientation. You really get a feel for the campus and what you're working for. Spartonpalozza is giant school spirit type of thing at the gym. It's a lot of fun, and a great time to spend with friends.

    Bang for the buck

This school is great! It's pretty inexpensive, and the education that you're getting is amazing. The faculty and their connections are fantastic, and there's a really good career services that will help you prepare for the real world. The Student Senate and CAB really does a lot for the students.

    What to do for fun

Tons! I'm involved in several clubs that provide a great chunk of time. The YCP Players put on 6-8 productions a year, and they're all fantastic. CAB always has something going on, such as movie nights, bingo, free singers or comedians, make your own novelties, and so much more! If you're ever sitting at your dorm alone thinking there's nothing to do.... Then you just need to look harder.

    Food and Dining

It's always hit or miss with the main dinning hall. Some days food can be really fantastic, especially on their theme nights, although a lot of the time it's a struggle to find decent food. The extra dinning areas, such as Pura Vida and Spart's Den, have excellent food, although you have to pay out of pocket or with dinning points.

    Dorm Life

The freshman dorms are terrible, unless you can get into Northside Commons. I've found the staff in charge of the dorms to be very unorganized, and extremely unmotivated in helping students with problems. A lot of issues are shoved onto the RAs, and they only have so much power, although they are fantastic. Quiet hours are universally ignored.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are academically challenging, but nothing that can't be handled. For every really difficult professor you have, there is a more relaxed one that will balance out your coursework. Professors are always willing to help students in need.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in campus activities. A lot of people will complain that there's nothing to do over the weekend, but there's tons of clubs that you can join! It'll keep you from partying and then getting citing, and campus security is extremely strict about that type of thing. Plus, being in clubs will connect you to a lot of really great people.

    In three sentences

York College of Pennsylvania is a wonderful small college. Classes are taught by professors who truly care about their students, in small settings. The people at YCP are always friendly.

Because the size of the classes are small, each Professor will sit down with you (and the class) and go through the material. The Professors everyday goal is to have their students leave the classroom, understanding the material. If one is still unable to grasp the material learned, the the Professors work a flexible schedule to help you.

    Campus Safety

The Campus Safety officers are constantly patrolling the area for suspicious activity (and bad parking).

Great for these types of students

Biology majors in particular, science majors in general.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Each year, graduating seniors repaint a huge slab of stone called The Rock, which resides outside the student union. The seniors leave their signatures on The Rock for the next full year, thereby making a physical mark on their alma mater.

    Bang for the buck

YCP was ranked in the Top 10 Best Value Private Colleges and Universities. Enough said.

    What to do for fun

Student activities are rampant all over campus -- some might say they are a little out of control. If you want to find something to do on a Friday night, there are plenty of options on and off campus.

    Food and Dining

Like other college food, the dining options at YCP are all overly expensive, whether or not you have a meal plan. However, the cafeteria food is filling, respectably healthy, and very appetizing.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter and therefore have no experience in the dorm life.

    Academic Rigor

I cannot speak on the rigors of liberal arts curricula, but the science professors at YCP have high expectations of their students. The biology department in particular requires original research in order for the student to graduate, which is a requirement that is very rare at the undergraduate level. YCP restricts all class sizes to an absolute maximum of 30 students, and this is crucial to the overall success and low dropout and transfer rate of YCP students.

    Tips for prospective students

Class size is much more important than you think. My organic chemistry class at YCP was 17 students, myself included. I transferred out of University of Pittsburgh. Why? My lectures had over 600 students out there, and I got lost in the sauce. YCP makes it easy to learn.

    In three sentences

YCP has an absolutely fabulous academic program. Its athletics are well-funded, though under-attended. The city around it is small but lively.

    Academic Rigor

I've been challenged this year, but I enjoy it. I cannot wait to take even more classes with knowledgable professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Therer are clubs that pertain to interests such as the psychology club, spanish club, and ski and outdoor club. Some clubs even go on trips. Recently, the paintball/airsoft club went to a park and had a blast!

    Campus Safety

I can truly say that the campus safety at the school is not that great. They are so busy busting underage drinkers and drunk students that they fail to get a handle on the crime around the campus that is finding it's way into York College. There are also booth around every entrance location of the school that are not being manned by the campus safety workers. The campus is open to basically all locals and it is supposed to be private. Sorry for the informal writing.

    Clubs and Activities

The college has many clubs and activities for whatever interests you. The great part about this college is also that you can form your own club if you have the right amount of supporters.

Great for these types of students

The college is predominately white, but since I have been there they have tried to get some diversity going. I believe that by next semester their should be a fair amount of students ethnically different.

    What to do for fun

The school normally has movies playing every Thursday and on the weekends they sometimes plan trips to New York, Aquariums, and Malls. They try to plan fun activities during the weekdays and weekends.

    Food and Dining

The food is alright. I am, next semester, paying for a different dining plan where I will not only be allowed access to the dining hall, but the cafe as well. I can truly say that the cafe food is 100% better than the dining halls.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are not that bad. Majority of the dorms have no air conditioning so a fan IS a must.

    Academic Rigor

Well the college is known for it's partying and the underage drinking has been a problem, but I believe it is now under control. There have been many incidents, but if you hang out with the right crowd you should be perfectly fine.

    Tips for prospective students

Study, study, study. If you work hard, study hard, and make the most out of all the available opportunities, college is a breeze. Sigh.. the best decision I have ever made at York College was joining my sorority. It was exactly what I needed. My sorority sisters are so crazy and fun, and I am so thankful to them that they were able to bring that side out of me. Join. That's all I can say. You may not think it's for you, but it's not about the title of sister or brother, it's about the people you meet.

    Clubs and Activities

Dance, theater, intramural sports, music, art, religion, singing, environment... you name whatever you're interested in, anything at all and York College has it.

Great for these types of students

Students looking to get involved, discover what they like and who they are. Meet people and create friendships that will last a lifetime and who know how to balance hard work and fun.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Unusual? hm.. tough one. I'm going to have to say the board room in Spartans Den. Its like a game room. Televisions, pool tables and karaoke nights and all that. But it's still.. unusual.

    Bang for the buck

I wasn't sure about York College at first, but once I visited the campus, I knew. It's beautiful. Green grass, huge trees, a roaring water fountain and the very appreciated shuttle that buses students from place to place so we don't have to be sweaty from running to our presentation.

    What to do for fun

There are so many activities happening on campus, It's hard to keep up. In the Students Activities Union there are build a bear workshops, bracelet sales for charity, sign ups for organizations and games. Greek Life and sports are huge at York College. You join one of these and you will never be bored.

    Food and Dining

Johnson Dining Hall... or what new students learn to call Scurve, is located on main campus. They just remodeled it. It's really nice. There are always themed dinners, like mardi gra, Asian, etc. The menu changes daily but there is always, pizza, fries, salad bar, dessert bar, ice cream bar and teas, coffees, cappuccino and sodas. I'm a vegetarian so it was really important to me that there was always a veggie option. I usually have a salad with roasted potatoes. Yum.

    Dorm Life

Well, I lived in a campus house owned by the college, so it probably isn't quite the same as a dorm complex. From my experience when I have stayed with friends in their dorms its not too bad. The floors are every other boy/girl. There are common rooms with televisions and microwaves that are open all day and night. The RA's check ID's after 10pm and if you aren't a resident in that dorm you give them the ID for the night.. that's about it.. You can come and go as you please.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on the Professor and the major really. For example Nursing is hardcore, where as philosophy is not so much. Although my first semester as a freshman I took a Philosophy 101 type course and there was a 3 to 5 page parer due weekly. The classes are demanding, but most of the professors attempt to make them enjoyable.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. It's okay to be the shy kid on campus... that was me spot on. Tip #1 is to get INVOLVED. Believe me, rushing for Greek scared me to death but if I didn't step out of my comfort zone I wouldn't have met the girls who make up my home away from home. 2. Try to make friends with your roommate. Basically, they are all you have until you find what interests you on campus. Ask them if they want to go to the dining hall, everyone needs to eat. 3. There are three campuses at York. Make sure you schedule your classes with enough time in between so you aren't sprinting from one campus to another to get to class. 4. Take the shuttle.

    In three sentences

York College offers a lot of opportunities for involvement including intramurals, Greek Life, Theatre and an endless amount of clubs to meet your interest. York College was the best choice for me, because the atmosphere made me step outside my comfort zone and get involved with organizations on campus. I have met the most amazing people and enjoy every minute on my campus.

    Dorm Life

On my visit to the dorms I noticed that the dorms seemed fairly small. The good thing is that they only set up two roommates to a dorm instead of three like some neighboring colleges do.

    Academic Rigor

As a music major I met with my future professors who showed me just how dedicated they are to the music program at York. When I received my class schedule I was glad to see that I was enrolled in my major's classes and not just 100% useless classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early. They offer an application that can be sent in during the Summer of your junior year in high school. It is a great opportunity to get information earlier and be able to meet with prospective professors. For example, I sent my 2012 application in August 2011 and received information in October 2011. I was able to meet with my professors from my major and I had already received my application status saying I was accepted. You do not have to accept the acceptance letter at that time.

Every where you turn there is either an officer, or a campus safety car patrolling the campus. If you call the office they're there as soon as possible.

    Greek Life

I am personally not involved with the Greek life at my school, but many of my friends are involved and they love it!

    Clubs and Activities

Student Government, CAB, Rugby Team, any type of sport, the Radio, Anime Club, etc. Too many diverse clubs to count.

Great for these types of students

    Literally any type of student.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Rock on main campus, the senior class paints the rock over and signs it every year.

    Bang for the buck

One of the most low costing private colleges I've seen.

    What to do for fun

There's movies, bingo, game shows, a bunch of ways to win cash, and many other activities over the weekends provided by the campus activity board. If someone has a car, then the mall, movie theater, and a dance club isn't too far away.

    Food and Dining

The food is better than typical cafeteria food, which is saying something.

    Dorm Life

Mostly everyone is friendly, so meeting people isn't hard. The rooms are a rather good size, but personal space does lack sometimes.

    Academic Rigor

Every professor I have encountered (with the exception of one) so far has been really helpful, friendly, and works with students schedule's as much as they can.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring your bike! When the weathers nice, its easier to ride from Main to West Campus. Also, befriend your dorm mates. Mostly everyone is pleasant and every freshman is in the same boat you are, believe it or not.

    In three sentences

This an extraordinary campus. Everything is fantastic, from the scenery to the people, to the professors. Definitely a solid 10.

    Campus Safety

They're all pests, and even the local police think they take their jobs too seriously. On the bright side they keep the campus pretty safe.

    Greek Life

Pretty big. The majority of the students are involved in Greek life. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to join myself

    Clubs and Activities

Some clubs are nice, but there are a couple dead groups.

Great for these types of students

In my opinion it's great for people who like having a close group of friends yet still want to meet new people they've never seen before.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The Hill as we call it is this enormous steep hill across the street from the main entrance. When you make your way up there, you can see the entire city. It's a very nice scene to look at especially at night.

    Bang for the buck

It's cheaper than a lot of colleges, and you still get the experience you'd want.

    What to do for fun

Greek life is very big on campus, I'd recommend joining an organization.

    Food and Dining

The Scurve's food can get pretty bad sometimes, but for college food it's alright. It's also an all you can eat buffet. There's other options on campus such as coffee shops which are nice for on the go.

    Dorm Life

It was pretty cool living with all your friends, and everyone is very friendly. My only complaint is that campus safety is quite strict.

    Academic Rigor

    It's not too hard.

    Tips for prospective students

College is what you make of it, so it's get involved!

    In three sentences

I thoroughly enjoy the size of the college. There are different types of professors, but when you get the ones, you can tell they are passionate about what they do. The social scene is fantastic, especially when you join greek life or some sort of organization.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is constantly present on campus. I always feel safe on campus, but York is a city so remember to never walk by yourself.

    Clubs and Activities

Tons of sports, club sports, intramurals, and student organizations. There really is something for everyone, no matter what your interest may be.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Signing the giant green rock on campus when you graduate.

    Bang for the buck

Do think the school should put more money into food offered on campus. Dining plans are VERY expensive.

    What to do for fun

Tons of stores and restaurants located in the York area. The school also offers several trips during the year to NYC or Baltimore, etc. Spring concert every year as well! Last year we had Dev and Cobra Starship and the year before was B.o.B. and Sam Adams.

    Food and Dining

Food is probably York's biggest weakness. The dining halls don't offer much variety and the quality of the food is not up to par to some state schools I've eaten at. But that being said, you do have the option for Flex dollars which everyone should take advantage of since many off campus vendors accept Flex from YCP (kindof like a debit card, but your school ID serves as the debit card).

    Dorm Life

The school has been renovating many old dorms and have just built a new dorm complex which is very nice.

    Academic Rigor

I am a nursing major, so the curriculum is very intense and spots for clinical are VERY competitive. But if you work hard and put in the time and effort into studying and doing your work, you will be successful. Just remember to not give up!

    Tips for prospective students

I would recommend YCP because of the relatively affordable tuition compared to other private colleges. Small college, but not so small that you know everyone.

    In three sentences

York College is a small private college in York, PA. I love the small class sizes. Professors actually know your name and are always willing to help. Loving my time at YCP!

    Campus Safety

They had many areas where you could just in case of emergencys, plus they had a swipe card for everything, so that's good! :)

    Greek Life

    They had greek life.

    Clubs and Activities

Plenty of sports (intramural and club, NCAA, etc) They even make you take a gym class so you could pick rock climbing or even scuba diving certification class! I thought that was awesome!! They have open swims in the pool, the gym is pretty nice and the new sports center overall was pretty! They also have a boat regatta thing, you build a boat out of cardboard/duct tape and race. its their annual spartapalooza.

Great for these types of students

It seemed very good for more quiet, laid back students who are willing to work very hard. I'm not a student, so I don't truly know how the atmosphere is.. I think I wouldn't feel apart of it all very well.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

So the school was nice... but its located in what seemed like a small town. I'm about 2 hours away, so I'm not familiar with York. I realize and found out- It's in the historic downtown part. For me, that was kind of a downside... I want a vibrant, full of fun, restaurants, etc. location! I couldn't walk to anything near by. Fast food was 3-4 miles away. The only 2 places near buy were a pizza and Mexican grill (which is still useful!) I'm just looking for a more fun, bustling, college town so to speak I guess.

    Bang for the buck

Absolutely! Its a private college at the price of a public college price! For some schools, this is even cheaper then a public price! They offer a scholarship for first time, full time freshman.. of like $16,000 (I believe over the 4 years) but hey, better then nothing! Some won't even offer you that right off the back.

    What to do for fun

There seemed like quite a bit on campus, but not so much off.

    Food and Dining

Plenty of dining halls, MANY choices for all 3 meals and even had themed nights! Like The Titanic, and even types of food like Asian, African, etc.

    Dorm Life

The dorm's were actually pretty big for a smaller college! It was bigger then Towson University, which I was actually surprised. You get a great size room at York. (the traditional 2 person room, in the freshman hall)

    Academic Rigor

They have small classes = expect you to attend and participate! I like that and plus I believe they are pretty rigorous.

    In three sentences

I'm just researching and just recently visited.. figured I'd provide my feedback!

    Campus Safety

Overall there are not a ton of crime/safety issues that come up on campus. When/if there is, the school and campus safety do a great job of communicating the incident among the entire community to create awareness. They constantly have officers patrolling campus. Overall I feel pretty safe walking anywhere on campus.

    Greek Life

While York is not a huge school and there is not a frat row type of set up among the Greek organizations, there is still a presence at York College. I am not personally involved with Greek life, but know several people who are and they all seem to enjoy it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are lots of clubs on campus, and if you cannot find one you like, you could always start your own! My favorite activities are sporting events just because it is cool to see your classmates compete. I also enjoy nights when the Campus Activities Board (CAB) hosts movies, because you can save money by seeing the film right after it is released at school for free, instead of having to go to the theatre.

Great for these types of students

York is great for student-athletes, because it provides top notch education and academic programs, as well as elite DIII NCAA regulated sports teams. The Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center is more advanced than almost all other DIII schools, and comparable if not better than most DII schools. Everyone can fit in at York though. This school is not just great for any one type of student. Who ever you are, you can find your niche at York.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a fountain in the middle of main campus and sometimes as a prank people put soap in the fountain and it gets filled with suds. There is a large rock at the center of campus and when you graduate, the school paints the rock green and every single graduate gets to paint their name, or something to remember them by following commencement.

    Bang for the buck

I looked at a lot of schools during my college search and York seemed to offer everything every other school did, but for less money. Not only that, but what really attracted me to York was their new/newly renovated facilities. For as old and historical as the city of York and the college is, you could never tell walking in to our Grumbacher Sports and Fitness Center, Wolf and Diehl Hall, or any building for that matter. The college is continually expanding and offering more for its students.

    What to do for fun

The Campus Activities Board (CAB) always has cool things planned on campus for free, available to all students. There are always movies that have just come out being played, comedians, musicians, etc. Last year the college hosted guest speakers Mia Hamm and Maya Angelo, as well as Wiz Khalifa for our spring concert. There is a nearby ice skating rink, bowling alley, movie theatres, etc. Lancaster has a really nice mall not too far from school.

    Food and Dining

There are two full dining halls on campus, along with several coffee shops, a sub shop, something equivalent to a Chipotle (burritos, quesadillas, etc.) and numerous vending machines. West Campus Commissionary, though not as large, has the best food in my opinion compared to Johnson's Dining Hall. Nearby, there is also a Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, Panera Bread, Yorktown Pizza, and numerous other chain restaurants. Whatever you do, DO NOT ORDER FRANKS PIZZERIA FOR DELIVERY because it will literally take two hours for your order to be delivered and they have terrible service.

    Dorm Life

As an incoming freshman, most people are housed in Manor North, South, East, or West, or the Penn/Beard Complex. Some people however are housed in Northside Commons. Northside is a newer building but has a mix of freshman sophomores and sometimes even juniors; which works and is fine, but the Manors and Penn/Beard complexes are more conducive to socializing and getting to know your classmates. I lived in Northside my freshman year and I loved it, but I know I would have gotten closer with some of the people in my class if I had lived in the Manors or Penn/Beard.

    Academic Rigor

While you do not fully realize their significance when you are deciding on which college to attend, small class sizes allow students to learn in a more intimate and productive environment. Not only that, but academics at York become easy when you have professors that are so hands on and willing to help when needed. As long as you go to class, do your assignments, and review your notes, academics at York are definitely do-able.

    Tips for prospective students

College is what you make of it. If you join clubs, teams, organizations, etc., and get involved, you will meet tons of people and have great experiences. Don't be afraid to pursue the things that interest you. College is much different from high school in that, people appreciate diversity and originality; so go out there and do whatever it is that you do best.

    In three sentences

York College is the perfect mix of having a small enough population that you will see familiar faces and feel like you are a part of the community, but a large enough population that there are always new people to meet. I believe my decision to attend York College has been vital to my successes during my freshman year of college. York is my second home.

    What to do for fun

There are routine activies held on campus through the Campus Activies Board, including trivia nights, stage performances, movie nights in the main auditorium, etc.

    Food and Dining

There are two dining halls, one on main campus and a second on west campus. The dining hall on main campus is decent with a varied menu that changes daily. Respectable quality pizza is always available if you don't like the main course, as well as salad and sandwich bars. The dining hall on west campus is better, though. The food is routinely higher quality with more variety.

    Dorm Life

It really depends on the type of dorm you're in. As a freshman, you basically have two choices: the main halls or the mini-dorms. In the main halls you're living co-ed among a large number of people on one floor. In the mini-dorms you live in quads of 8 or so other students. The rooms are decent size, and the cable and internet is good.

    Academic Rigor

YCP has a lot of high quality academic programs, especially in the nursing, business, and communications departments. The professors are great teachers, and the class sizes are rarely larger than 35 students. This makes classes far more engaging. You aren't just a name on a roster for your professor. They get to know you over the semester and it really helps with creating a learning environment.

Great for these types of students

    Nursing or Special Education Majors

    What to do for fun

They have plenty of campus wide actives and sports to get involved in.

    Food and Dining

Johnson dining hall has horrible food, sometimes they may have some good food but most of the time its not very good. West Campus dining hall has excellent food it Is always cooked perfectly and the dining hall overall seems very clean.

    Dorm Life

The rooms are a good size and everyone pretty much goes along, the rooms do look a little grimy and dirty but if you clean and scrub them down pretty good the dirt goes away.

    Academic Rigor

They have pretty good professors although some of them can be a little arrogant, but most of them are splendid and positive.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you like large campus's with a lot of people. Also be prepared if things don't work out with a roommate, if you know someone who is going there request them as roommate.

    In three sentences

They have a gorgeous campus, for a city college. The food in Johnson Dining Hall is not very good. The dorms are comfortable size but not very cleanly.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of activities and clubs on campus that can keep you very busy! I am a Best Buddy and that is where a York college student is paired up with a disabled person from the York community and you get to bond with them. CAB is a very popular club and they are the people that plan all of the events around the school, like Chocolate festivals, Foam parties, concerts, comedians, hypnotists etc. The student senate is also big because they are the ones that vote on what CAB wants to do and says if it is in the budget or not. And those are just some of the hundreds of clubs on campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Freshman are known for wearing their lanyards around their necks, so if you don't want to be looked down upon don't do that.

    What to do for fun

I am not a partier, so I can't say anything about the action on Jackson street, where all of the off campus housing is, but I can tell you that my roommate enjoys the parties. There is plenty to do in York city from going to White rose, a restaurant, to going to the cute little shops around. On campus there are CAB, Campus activities Board, activities going on constantly. There is no reason to be bored on campus.

    Food and Dining

As an underclassmen you are required to get a meal plan because the dorms we stay aren't equipped with a kitchen. The meal plans are expensive but you will not have to worry about running out of swipes or things to eat because you have plenty! I chose a split plan where I have half the swipes go to the dining hall and then the other half go to the coffee shops around campus. That works pretty well for me.

    Dorm Life

I love everyone in my dorm, sure we don't get along when the girls next door are singing at 2am on a Monday, but I still would trust them with my life. I am in Codorus which is a coed dorm where there is a girl floor, a guy floor and then a girl floor on top. Most dorms have swipe entry to get into the dorms which provides a lot of safety. I love it!

    Academic Rigor

I am in the nursing Track 1 program here at York and its pretty tough. The whole atmosphere in the nursing program is very rigid and solid. When you begin you are given a schedule for the rest of your college experience and those are the classes you need to take in that order.

    Tips for prospective students

I think as a prospective student at any school not just York is to find someone that goes to that college already, so once you go there you know there is someone there you can ask questions to and go to if you need help with scheduling or anything like that.

    In three sentences

York College has become my home over this past semester. I am a freshman and it's my first spring semester here. I feel completely comfortable to be myself and I am ecstatic that I chose to make this my next step after high school.

    Campus Safety

It has been improving since our most recent new president. However, it could be better.

    Greek Life

Various different chapters here, sororities and fraternities.

    Clubs and Activities

Many different clubs to join, from smaller clubs to huge organizations.

Great for these types of students

People who prefer smaller schools, suburban people (or people who don't mind suburban areas), and people who don't mind smaller classes (no more than 40 students per class).

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a giant green rock on our main campus that graduating students sign every semester.

    Bang for the buck

Although tuition keeps rising, York is still one of the cheaper private schools out there.

    What to do for fun

This school has the Campus Activities Board (CAB) organization that puts on a lot of fun events on and off campus (mostly on weekends) for students to do. Otherwise, unfortunately most of the fun things are off campus and may require a car.

    Food and Dining

The dining halls here have majorly improved since I first came here.

    Dorm Life

For the most part, living on campus isn't too bad. The school really is slacking on renovating one of the complexes, however.

    Academic Rigor

This school is mostly known for its Nursing and Education programs. The Business program is also progressing.

    Tips for prospective students

This school is better suited for people who don't like larger schools (15,000 students+). It is better to have a car on campus since many of the bigger stores are not within walking distance (freshmen are permitted to have their cars on campus). This campus does have multiple organizations in Greek Life.

    In three sentences

York College has professors who care about the well-being of their students. The class sizes are ideal, especially for people who like to connect with their teachers. Lastly, the resources that York College provides are excellent for helping students gain internship and career opportunities.

THE ROCK! After you graduate and walk across the stage you get to sign the rock, which sits directly in-between the bookstore and the Humanities, your name stays on there all semester until the next graduation.

    What to do for fun

There's a ton of on campus activities. There's intramural sports, movies, bingo, game shows. There's bingo monthly, with cash prizes, gift cards, stuff from the bookstore. There's a movie played every Thursday and Saturday (movies out of theaters but before on DVD), there's also game shows like Trivia, Family Feud and Cell Phone Trivia. Great Greek Life and Clubs.

    Food and Dining

There's Johnson Dining Hall and West Campus Community Center, they eat have their pro's and con's. The food usually isn't too bad and on holidays there are special themed dinners, (Thanksgiving, Easter, Mardi Gras.) In addition, there's Sparts Den, Coffee Cart and Pura Vida, they have food such as, sandwiches, croissants, bagels, cookies, and drinks, coffee, soda, water, juice, and tea. Pura Vida is similar to a Starbucks, and Sparts Den is like Subway, Qdoba and Sushi all in one.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are old, and you can tell. The rooms are pretty decent sized and only freshman live on the main campus, sometimes north campus and the rooms are one room, two beds, two desks and two closets. Most of the bathrooms are community and you have two per hall. Once you become a junior or senior you can request to live off campus, which is mainly Jackson Street, which lays right next to main campus. Other upperclassmen live on West campus, where their rooms could have a common area, a bedroom, a bathroom and a kitchen. Not all the buildings have full kitchens and rooms vary in the number of roommates/suitemates you could have.

    Academic Rigor

The classes here are hard, most of the professors really know what they are teaching. Almost every professor has first hand knowledge on their subjects, theres a large amount of adjunct professors who work at the job full-time and teach it here at York College also.

    Tips for prospective students

Amazing programs in chemistry, biology, nursing and business. The campus is small and it only takes about 10 minutes to walk from main campus to west campus. The local York City is full of small-business shops and great food. And the community around YCP is very close, everyone gets along and you feel very safe, campus is very pretty throughout the seasons as well.

    In three sentences

YCP is a great school to get your undergraduate education at. The close community and local city nearby give both a away from home and safe feeling. There's plenty of campus activities going on weekly and everyone here is friendly.
