About the Architectural Engineering Major

When it comes to buildings, architectural engineers bestow solid meaning to the phrase, "built to last." Architectural engineering programs prepare students to plan and design functional structures with concern to mechanical, heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems. How are buildings able to withstand earthquakes and heavy winds? If you major in architectural engineering, you'll learn the answer! Through a combination of lecture and laboratory courses, students develop creative problem-solving skills and learn to apply mathematical and scientific principles to design and construct sustainable buildings safely, efficiently, and within a budget.

Architectural engineering graduates are prepared to pursue careers in the construction industry and related areas. Many find work at nonresidential building construction companies and architectural and engineering consulting firms. Career opportunities also exist with nonprofit agencies, state and federal government agencies, and colleges and universities.
