    ASU is a great place for learning. The teachers are very nice. Therefore they help you with your classes. If you are failing and do not understand. They will help you or even waver your grades to help you out. They have a lot of people to help you if you need tutoring. I am learning a lot at this school. I am happy that I choose it because I hear from other friends how at their schools, their professors don't help them. I just say sorry, my teachers help a lot.

    When friends and people from church ask me how I like Albany. I say I really enjoy this school. The school is not too big or too small. The campus is very pretty and there is something always going on. Whether its a party or forums and events. The football games and band are awesome. The basketball games are fun too. The dorms are nice and they are always having something with battle of the halls. I just love my ASU.
    Bang for the buck

    If your looking for a school that has nice teachers, students, nice looking, fun, then ASU is for you. Its not very expensive. Each semester rounds off to paying about $ 5,000 dollars. Which is cheap compared to other HBCU's. The financial aid is a bit slow, but they work with everyone to make sure you get what is needed.

    If you don't want to go to a school in a small city then this is not the school for you. Also if your from a big city and you attend Albany, just try to enjoy it. Don't judge the school because Albany (the city) is small. Its not going to be like if you went to a big city school. But Albany is fun and you will enjoy it even if its in a small city. Also if your planning on attending ASU and you got your packet. Make sure you turn your stuff in on time. Including dorms. Because the dorms are first come first serve. So if you turn them in late your not going to get one of the nicer dorms. Also you need to study and go to class. Its fun to party but too much parting can cause you to lose focus and then you will end up failing. So i advise you to study before partying.

    ASU is great for students who want to go to an HBCU and not pay expensively for it. Albany state may be cheap but they still look at grades and expect you to do well. Its also great for students, who like to have fun, party, attend games. This school has a lot of pride. So you will enjoy it. You will especially see it at Homecoming or the Classics.

    This is a good school, with a lot of fun people to be around. When you come to college focus on school, but remember to also have fun, get involved and make friends.

    It is easy to get around and find your classes on campus and there are a lot of historical landmarks here.

    Albany State is a very inexpensive school. Its only about 4,000 a semester which is cheaper then most Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
    Tips for prospective students

    Albany is a small city so it can take some time to get used to if your not from a small city yourself. It can get cold during late November and early December so please be prepared. Also, you must have transportation because most places are not walking distance.

    Albany is a great place for students who prefer the small city setting and it is a Historically Black College and University and it will look good on your resume to have graduated from such an institution. It will also be great for students who have cars to travel to others places.

    I have been attending asu for 1 semster so far. Its so much to adjust to, being away from home in this small town. Even though the town is small there are plenty of fast food restaurants and clubs. I've learned to take action with my studies because there are many distractions in the college life.

    It is a very hot city with very weird looking bugs lol but its a great environment. The people here are nice and friendly. There are plenty of clubs and organizations on campus that are very driven and goal orientated.

    its worth every penny. The only thing i will say is that the financial aid is a little slow with processing. but they work with you in the financial aid office.
    Tips for prospective students

    The most helpful tip I c an give by experience, is to STAY FOCUSED. Being away from home means no parents telling you when to be in or what to do. It is your responsibility to stay focused and not lose sight of the bigger picture. That is earning your degree. I'm not saying don't party... just know how to balance parties,studies,eating and sleeping.

    The professors here are very knowledgeable about the courses they teach. They are strict about getting work turned in on time but only because they want to see the students here succeed.

    Since I've been here i have really enjoyed it. The people are friendly and the campus is full of organizations and clubs that keep you busy and keep things interesting.

    For all students planning to enroll at ASU make sure you have developed great study habits and are coming here to earn a degree not just to party because if your priorities are not in line you will fail and it is very hard to bring your gpa back up.

    This campus is so beautiful and is peaceful. Their is no reason why anyone cannot concentrate or loose focus at all. ASU have many student events and as far as academics, from what I hear they are decent.

    I advise prospective students to apply around October 1 of their senior year. To set yourself apart from the rest I implore that you submit a resume and a 1 page essay of yourself (be creative).

    As a collegiate student at Albany State University, I have learned so many lessons. I have learned to become more of a independent collegiate student. I have also develop better studying habits while achieving a desirable GPA. Being active on campus and the community really help me appreciate life and school in general.

    Although the unversity is not as big many other colleges/universities in Georgia, I really enjoy being here. Each year, the university population, campus and program activities is expanding.

    College is like a test. Everything you learn and go through in college will prepare you for the real world. I have not always been a person who believe in doing my best. Once I realized how to succeed in life, I became more motivated to do my best in college. Future leaders of America, its not always about where you are from or how smart you are. Its about your sacrifice and determination to succeed. Know what you want in life and dont let anyone stop you from achieving those goals. If you can keep your priorities clear, you will succeed. Never forget to help others in need. You will be blessed.

    YES I AM DEFINITELY LEARNING A LOT, AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS TO ME. I CAME TO SCHOOL FOR A DEGREE AND THAT IS WHAT IM GETTING. DO BE REAL, NOT EVERY PROFESSOR THAT RECEIVES A CHECK FROM ASU CARES ABOUT YOU, SADLY, BUT, THE ONES WHO DO- U WILL FEEL IT. STICK BY THEM, LEARN ALL YOU CAN, AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY!

    It depends on what you are used to, and where your from. Our generation is so caught up on fashion and hoods per say, that they are loosing focus. Do not get caught up in the Greek Life or you will loose yourself. Greek is not for everyone. If you do decide to take part, don't go according to numbers and status, but pledge from your heart. Just keep to a small circle of friends. I do and I'm doing okay.

    If you are out of state, you will find yourself in a financial nightmare per say. Keep in touch with financial aide and all third party finances. If you are in state, then you are most m likely good to go with some minor tweaks.
    Tips for prospective students

    You are never to judge a book by its cover. ASU has its good and its bad. Albany is a small city, so if your use to big cities, make the best of it. Reminder that it is an HBCU and sometimes they move very slow(particularly financial aide). Just do your part in turning in all of your paperwork on time. However in terms of education, it is the student that makes the school, not the school that makes the student. There is no excuse to fail. They offer tutors on top of tutors. They have a program in the library(CETLA) it is the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Advising. Just keep in mind why you came to college,and all else will follow.

    Those students who like small cities, this is good for you. They do party a lot if you are on the fun side. But keep in mind that you came to school to further your education not party lifestyle. A lot of people get caught up, especially their freshman year and loose focus. But with some of the caring professors and excellent learning services you can get back on track.

    dorm life is good. there are many places to live . they are nice and comfortable . my roommate is now my really good friend.

    food is good. the caf has different theme days and food. the other places are your average food places and serve things you want when you dont have time or dont want to go to the caf all the time.

    there is alot to do for fun. alot of activitiues and events go on around camous. the plays, games, and greek events are really good.

    Albany State is a great place to create fun and exciting memories. A lot of things may not go as planned when it comes to financial needs, but there is always a way around it. Teachers here are awesome and understanding, that is if you choose the right ones.

    Be careful who you befriend and always stay alert. Don't trust everyone because the people who you think you can trust be the ones who hurt you. Stay focused on your school work and what you came to school for because all the parties can distract you.

    You learn many things daily if you attend class and really pay attention. The teachers will teach, but it's up to you to learn the material.
    Dorm Life

    It really depends which dorm you live in because you may not like the traditional dorms. The students and RAs will make you feel at home.

    Food seems awesome when you first come in, but you may get tired of the cafe after a while. With enough money and ram bucks, you'll be just fine.

    There isn't much you can do for fun besides attend parties, campus activities, and the game room located in the student center. You can also go to the movies or bowling or something to get off campus.

    All of the programs here are amazing so whatever you want to major in, Albany State is for you. Make sure you get everything in on time, check your emails, and make phone calls and send emails to check the status of everything you submit.

    The academic rigor is amazing. The teachers believe in excellence and helping their students to exceed the standards. Pushing the students to learn is a big priority.

    I love staying in the dorms on campus! It allows you to experience a true sense of the college life. You meet new people and they become your frieinds forever!

    The cafe is good. It has its days where you dont want to go, but most of the time it is fillling. There are also several other restaurants on campus and the campus is right up the streeet from a multitude of restaurants and eateries.
    What to do for fun

    The best thing to do for fun is go to events that organizations on campus have and also join organizations. You have to work hard but it is definitely worth it. There are also bowling allies, theme parks, movies, and more near the campus.

    Albany State has the best Forensic Science program in the country so if that's what you want to do, then this is definitely the school for you.

    Albany State University is a great HBCU to attend. The classes are small and allows one to receive special one on one attention. Albany State University is also a very beautiful campus, and very enjoyable.
    Tips for prospective students

    If one chooses to attend Albany State University they must be able to resist temptations and keep their heads in the books. It is easy to be manipulated into not going to class for something else non related. An important tip is to stay focused and keep in mind that you do have a goal to reach and a lot of people want to see you fail but even more people want to see you succeed and most of them attend ASU.
    Academic Rigor

    The most amazing thing to me here at ASU is that you do get that one on one attention and you do have means of getting extra help and that you can't get just anywhere, especially when the classes are so big. Here at ASU the classes are small and teachers and mentors are waiting to help you.
    Dorm Life

    The dorms are great here, they have all types. If you choose to live in traditional dorms ASU has it, or if you choose to live in newer more modern dorms they have them too. They are spacious and always have something going on so you can get to know the people in your dorm hall as well as the ones who run it.
    Food and Dining

    The food are pretty good we have everything from Pizza to stir fry vegetables. All food are always hot and ready to serve Wednesdays are the best its Fried Chicken Wednesday! We also have turkey burgers and sandwiches. And great deserts to follow.
    What to do for fun

    On our campus there is always something going on whether it be a fashion show a football, basketball, softball, or baseball game you can always find something to do during your leisure time. We even hold midday get together and there is food and music and don't forte FUN. Also every year BET stops by this famous HBCU for the BET Black College Tour. You can never go bored here at ASU.
    Bang for the buck

    As far as money is concerned all the money you pay to attend ASU you actually use it. The athletic fees are used to get you into all home game FREE. The laundry fees are for free laundry, yes that means you can do you laundry all you want. And the best part is RAM BUCKS these are monies that you can use to purchase foods and snacks on famous from Chick-Fil-A, or Subway, even Pizza Hut, we also have an Einstein Brothers Bagels for all your fresh bagels and fruits as well as coffees.
    Greek Life

    We have many Greek here and with greeks come Probates and they are all very entertaining. This past year the Deltas had 41 members cross! That probate was very interesting. The Greeks all have their own week where they step and have interest meeting and throw parties and shoe the students on campus what they do and why.
    Campus Safety

    ASU P.D. is always there for you no matter what. I can recall when i had a minor problem that ended up escalating and one officer gave me her personal number to ensure i was safe. The are conveniently located on campus and anywhere you go on campus you will see one either driving around or walking around.

    The cafeteria has many different selections. We have just built a brand new student union and we have Einstein Bro's bangels, Chic-fil-A, Subway, and Pizza-Hut.

    There are parties going on every week off campus but if you want to go then thats your priority. We always have events on campus like recitals, fashion shows, and basketball, football, and baseball games.

    Albany State University isn't just an institution who just hands out degrees but the Professors want to see their students succeed. We have the Greek Organizations which are always enjoyable to see.

    Tips for prospective students

    If you plan on attending Albany State University you have to be dedicated to becoming a student. At Albany State just like any other school, you will not be pressured into doing anything! you have to be able to motivate yourself to stay on top of your work and handle your business.

    Honestly the work assigned by professors is not difficult it just requires effort. In college, if you are not not dedicated then it may be a lot more difficult for you to succeed.
    Dorm Life

    Housing at Albany State is pretty nice. We have two brand new dorms, one for freshmen and the other of upperclassmen. In all there are about 10 different dorms at Albany. Only full-time students are allowed to stay on campus.
    Food and Dining

    At Albany State we call our dinning are The Caf.Our caf is brand new, just opened January of 2012. In the care we have four different line and a salad bar. The food in the caf is usually pretty good.
    What to do for fun

    At Albany there is always something to do. We have a couple of different student activity groups that keeps our campus live.

    On campus we have a few different areas were students hang out. We have a are at the bottom of campus called The Square, thats where both the oldest boy and girl dorm is located. We also have The Hill where most of the freshmen dorms are located. Then we have the union, this isvin the middle of campus. In the union you can hang out, play pool, video games, or eat at the caf.

    albany state is a very beautiful school. in certain departments customer service could be better. as well, we should have more activities on campus for the students to do (i.e. small bowling alley, or outside volley ball area or recreational activity center (rac)

    make sure when you come to school that you make copies and keep a paper trail or electronic trail of everything. if you didnt write it down it was not done.

    for incoming potential nursing students, please make sure that you have your priorities in order. it takes a lot of hardwork, sacrifice, and dedication to make it through this program.

    spring 2012 is my first semester off campus. when i was on campus the dorm life was i say ok. every now and then you would get students partying late make alot of noise outside, but it is ok.

    i wish the grillin j.c. reese would open back up!!! i miss the breakfast bowls, and the cafe and their staff are so polite. i like the initiative taken to go green.

    asu is an overall great school. there is always room for improvement. get more activities on campus for students. bring back all intramural leagues including softball. you can't have basketball and football and not have softball.

    i was president of residence hall association for 1 semester, and parliamentarian for 2 years. this organization was built on the principle of making our school your home. i love my organization because even though we were small, we were bigger in the things that we did.

    greek life is awesome. i am not greek but some of the fraternity and sororities actually allow you to engage with them and learn about them. they have aerobic and zumba nights and they try to do things that can cater to the students. like the delta rho chapter of delta sigma theta sorority inc. hosted a etiquette season to the young women of the campus.
    Campus Safety

    our police officers are on it and doing a great job. except for the one officer who rides around on the golf cart and in the car acting like he is super cop, but he really is not.
