Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have been learning a lot in my speech class, because I haven't had a speech class since the 8th grade. My teacher, Michelle Syltie, is fun and helpful in everything. However, my government class with Charles Miles is more of a repeat of all of my AP high school history classes than anything else.
Am enjoying being here I am excited to wake up every Tuesday and Thursday to go to my speech class. The class involves activities and debates that excite every student. My government class, however, makes me want to fall asleep.
Bang for the buck I am extremely excited that my dad was able to my tuition for my two classes and I am living on my own, all without loans, grants, or any other financial help. Having lower tuition definitely caters to my lifestyle.
Tips for prospective students Don't forget you ARE going to be at a community college. The social life is the pits. But the learning enviroment is great. Everyone is there for the degree and wants to learn.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are looking for cheap, but quality education, parents, kids on their own, or anyone who loves to save money and enjoy Austin!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Austin Community College has a diverse array of educational programs available. They have wonderful staff would work exceptionally hard to accommodate the needs of their students while providing a top quality educational program. This is one of the best community colleges I have ever had the opportunity to attend.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students should request to sit down with an adviser who can explain the degree plan specific to the students interest. The staff are there to help you and are most agreeable. Austin Community College District has a wide range of exceptional programs to choose from with knowledgeable and dedicated staff.
Academic Rigor The academic rigor of ACC is amazing. They have well rounded educational programs that tease creativity and innovation. Excellence is rewarded while challenging the students to excel inside and outside the class room.
Dorm Life Dorms are not available.
Food and Dining Each campus has a quality cafeteria with drinks, food, and snacks.
What to do for fun Austin Community College District has many clubs and student events. Live music, theater, special speakers and lectures, recitals, and public awareness events are a constant at ACC. ACC takes pride in community involvement and enrichment of the community they serve.
Bang for the buck For the price, you can not get a better deal. The quality of the staff, services, and facilities is exemplary. They keep the campuses clean, well stocked with technology, quality classes, and a relaxed atmosphere.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The ACC mascot is the ACC River Bats. An adorable purple bat which pays homage to the legacy of Austin, Texas bat colonies.
Great for these types of students ACC is great for all kinds of students who want to learn from community oriented instructors. ACC hires intellectual staff who believe in enriching and cultivating the minds of the those who want to learn. I am personally highly impressed by the director of the music program at ACC Northridge as he has worked for major recording labels and knows the music business inside and out.
Clubs and Activities Student Life offers a diverse array of clubs and community events.
Greek Life ACC provides a local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
Campus Safety Campus safety is a constant importance to ACC. The officers are prompt, courteous, and vigilant.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning so much at ACC Cypress Creek. The teachers are very helpful and so willing to stop and explain if one does not understand.
Am enjoying being here The small classes and beautiful scenery at the campus make it very pleasant to attend ACC Cypress Creek. It is a very comfortable environment and extremely easy to navigate. All of this makes college seem a little less intimidating especially for in-coming freshman.
Bang for the buck I personally have to pay for school on my own as well as all my living expenses. Because of this I really appreciate the great prices ACC offers to its students, especially those living in district. It makes my life a lot easier and makes going to school more readily available to students like myself who are paying out of their own pocket.
Tips for prospective students The best tip I can give is to sign up early for your classes! You're not the only one that is taking advantage of this great institution therefore the classes will go quickly; well the ones with the best times that is. Also, stay organized. Organizing all of your paperwork will be a big help to you. It will keep your payment deadlines, schedule, etc. much easier to keep track of and be a lot less stressful for you in the end. Finally, good luck and have fun in college!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot For the price this school has some amazing teachers and learning facilities.
Am enjoying being here The campus is a 5 minute drive from my house and the experience has just been really positive.
Bang for the buck My tuition for 11 hours last semester was $1000. I learned so much. It is great for those of us who have to pay out of pocket and are on a limited budget.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely suggest any students in the Austin area to go to ACC for the first two years before transferring to a 4 year college. You will save thousands of dollars in the long run.
Great for these types of students Anyone who doesn't want to pay back student loans for the rest of their lives and wants a fun, growing experience with a patient and helpful college.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I like how everything is on your own at Austin Community College, it makes me feel more responsible than ever. The teachers are very understanding but not to the point where they can be taken advantage of. ACC also provides help for anything whether it be tutoring or receiving a job, they know exactly what direction to steer you in.
Tips for prospective students Don't waste any time you have in the non-fiction world. Do not pass any chances for opportunities. Also, don't be afraid of change. Nothing is set so sometimes you just have to see where life may take you.
Academic Rigor I actually just decided to change my minor from criminal justice to accounting. Like I said earlier, when you try new things you might change the way you think. The classes at Austin Community College not only prepare you for a career but they also help you choose the right path you may never have considered.
Dorm Life I actually live on my own right now. Yes, I may be 18 but I am capable to do just as much as anyone else. I have my own apartment, car, buy my own food and pay all my bills on time. No, my parents do not help me but it's not because of any punishment but in support of myself for being a strong independent woman.
Food and Dining What can I say, I'm a great cook! Ever since I started living on my own I have learned how to make many Italian dishes (my favorite), American food, Brazilian dishes and much more.
What to do for fun Since I live in Austin there is a lot to do. Most of the time college students are on a budget ( I know I am), so three hot spots would be kayaking, dollar movies, and skating. Inexpensive and very fun!
Bang for the buck What not to splurge at: food & clothes. In college I promise that NO ONE will be able to x-ray vision through your clothes and be able to tell that you ate a $50 steak with those fish eggs (gross). Clothes are suppose to fade or ruin, so don't try making them last forever. Spend the money on things that depend on the best like your car, which takes you everywhere, or just save it for a rainy day.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I know that almost every week there are venues set up around the campus. Some offer free food so don't be afraid to just listen to what they have to offer. They also give away goodies such as shades or on the go snacks. Who knew getting to know whats happening at your campus could be so much fun?
Clubs and Activities The clubs at ACC are very inviting. If you love the family feel joining clubs or getting involved is the best way to do it.
Campus Safety The police are always patrolling the campus to make sure nothing suspicious may be happening. I actually talk to them often and they are always so friendly. It's nice knowing that you're at a campus where safety comes first.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences My time with ACC has been amazing. The teachers I have had do a superb job of teaching the material and are easy to understand and get help from.
Tips for prospective students Take classes during the summer. I found that the summer classes were easier and less stressful than classes in the fall and spring. Students that maintain a 3.5 G.P.A. or higher should look into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Program.
Academic Rigor I found the classes and the course work to be easy.
Dorm Life I personally stayed at home.

Tips for prospective students Get plenty of sleep. Study hard. Don't overload yourself.
Academic Rigor University education at CC price.
Food and Dining snack and soda machines are available.
What to do for fun There's so much to do in the Austin area you should be able to find something you enjoy doing. We have music, art, outdoor activities, and lots of fun things.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Austin Community College (Pinnacle location) is a wonderful college and has great professors that want you to succeed. The have a tutoring/learning lab that allows students to go get help on homework problems and betters their understanding of the respective subjects they are studying. ACC also has a student lounge where students are able to hang out, meet new friends, and learn about upcoming events.
Tips for prospective students Keep your GPA up and you can apply for honors society and use it on your transcript if you wish to apply to another college later.
Food and Dining ACC (Pinnacle) has Simon's Cafe located on the 9th floor and while the food is a little over-priced, the taste and quality is great!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Austin Community College charges $57 a semester hour vs $618 a semester hour of University. Most professors have been published, have doctorates, donate their time within their community and are never snobbish when I ask questions. I love this school!
Tips for prospective students Put in the effort and they will too.
Academic Rigor Tough but fair
What to do for fun omg, your in Austin, you can do anything!!!
Bang for the buck Returning back to school after so many years was really very hard. Feeling like Goldilocks, I needed a school that was not too big, not too small, not too cold, not too hot, not too hard, not too soft, but just right! That is what Austin Community College is for me. It is just right. This place is the ideal place to: get your Associates Degree, transfer to a larger University, or just to get the ideal technical degree that you need in order to get an ideal career under way. Austin Community college is ideal for several reasons. First, the cost is lesser than most. Second, this is a college that believes in second chances and as such the college offers a level of teaching that is hard to match.
First, let us discuss cost. Cost, did I mention money? Yes, I did, and here is the skinny of the deal. One nearby public university charges resident students $423 per semester hour. Another nearby university charges resident students $618 and these two are public universities! If you want to price a private liberal arts college, her resident students pay $1038 per semester hour at a minimum. So basically, you can go to Austin Community College and pay $57 per semester hour. Why would you pay the cost of one of the local universities when you can get upwards of 60 hours at a discounted rate! I plan to graduate with my Associates in fall 2012 before continuing on to get my Bachelors at a local university. I estimate that I have saved $ 13,200 in tuition costs just by attending Austin Community College for the two years prior!
Second, this is a college that believes in second chances. Usually when you think of community college you think of some guy in some big hair band that flunked out of life. Mean but it is a stereotype, right? Guess what? I have published Professors. I have professors that have spent years making a difference in the world for the better. These people are part of activist groups. They are people who give within their community. These are the professors that want a well educated society that encompass the ideal citizen. They want a citizenry group that grasps hold of the economic, educational, monetary and political reigns controlling the future of America. All of the campus locations have learning labs with Professors working in the lab. Not to mention that most lab employees hold doctorates and/or masters degrees. Not only are they helping you walk the walk, they have walked it before you. While you are trying to work toward an Associates Degree they have done it and might have a PHD in their title but they do not look down upon you.
Well, that is just how great my school is. My school outshines the others strictly because of the lesser economic burden and the excellent service. How can you lose? Check it!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Austin Community College is a great place to start out your college education. They have excellent teachers, easy to access tutoring labs, resources for checking out equipment such as calculators and other media, and nice people. Two downsides on the campus I attend, from my view Rio Grande needs stronger resources for students to get good advising and personal counseling services and student need to be more involved with organizations and community activities.
Tips for prospective students 1) To start with students should make sure to ask every question they have in mind to the advisers, they need to know what you are thinking of and in which areas you need help.
2) Don't start out college declaring any major if you are unsure f what you want to be. Start out with the general education electives and you will find what you enjoy in one or more of these classes.
3) be involved with our community, start a club or get involved with a club in which you have common interests, it is very important to have a good support system in college.
4) Be open to new opportunities and don't be scared if you develop into a different person, seek advising and counseling about any feelings that bother you. What to do for fun 1) Start or Join a club.
2) Get to know various people.
3) Tell student life on your campus about what you would like to see happen on campus.Great for these types of students The Rio Grande Campus has a large number of blind students and various equipment to help them out. There are also Sign Language courses here and a Sign language lab. Students who prefer to be close to downtown will enjoy being on the Rio Grande Campus.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs on every campus, however getting students involved in events such as community work can sometimes be difficult. Students are are easily attracted to free food and enjoy when it is served by various clubs. It would be nice to see more clubs join together to put on more diversity/community events that can benefit our environment.
Greek Life There is the Phi Theta Kappa Organization. To be included you must have taken about 6 or 12 credits at ACC and have a 3.5 GPA.
Campus Safety Never heard of any safety problems and ACC is now smoke free!!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences ACC make dreams reachable by providing affordable education to everyone. The professors are not only very knowledgeable, they make sure that you understand the material well and are always there to support you in your studies. I had a great experience studying here. I love ACC!
Tips for prospective students Attend orientation! You can make the most out of your experience if you learn the academic resources available for you. Join clubs and organizations, it's a great way to meet new friends. You can choose your own schedule from a wide variety of choices: weekends, mornings, afternoons, evenings, hybrid courses, distance learning. There are currently 8 locations dispersed on north, west, east, south parts of austin to accommodate a huge populace.
Academic Rigor You are given a syllabus at the start of the semester and that will be your map for the course. The courses range from easy to hard. Most of the time your success will be determined by how much time you are willing to spend on each course and how you budget your time wisely. If the course gets really tough, ask your professor for help! That's why they're there in the first place. If your work schedule doesn't correspond to their office hours, you can schedule an appointment with them. Also, there are free tutors online and in person.
Dorm Life I didn't attend a dorm, so ignore the 1 star!
Food and Dining At each campus, there is a Simon's cafe. Food tastes good, but expensive.
What to do for fun Join clubs and organizations at the Student Life office!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences ACC has been one of the most invigorating experiences of my life. I enjoy attending classes, listening to my professors and having one-on-one help. Here college is more than an education; it is a lifestyle of learning!
Tips for prospective students Never stop learning. It is important to remember that college isn't all work and no play. ACC has several programs for students looking for clean and wholesome fun!
Academic Rigor Just because ACC is a junior college doesn't mean that their programs are easy. Classes are smaller so learning here is simpler. There is more time for the professors to engage with the students. Academically, they are hard but not impossible.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at ACC; however, apartments in Austin, Texas, aren't priced badly. The life within the classrooms have given me lifelong friends. I know that dorms are the same experience.
Food and Dining ACC has on-campus dining. I would have to say is 5-star. They are fast, and the food is always delicious!
What to do for fun Austin has several venues that college students enjoy. The college is always hosting an event or telling students how to find one. The events are always educational and helpful for classes.
Great for these types of students ACC is great for students who want to dive directly into a workforce career. It gives students a degree for exactly what they want.
Campus Safety There are police officers on campus as late as the students, faculty, and staff. I always feel safe on campus. I know they are there for a battery jump, safe walk, or any little concerns. The officers are always polite and kind.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Austin Community College is a great college to jump-start your educational career. The Staff is wonderful but the students could be more enthusiastic about their learning environment. The ACC advisers are very helpful but the saturated college makes it hard to get into the classes you need.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of registration! All students should be ready to register for the classes they need at midnight they day you are eligible. Many people attend community colleges, so classes fill up fast. Also, meet with advisers often to make sure you are on track with your goals.
Academic Rigor Many of the students aren't sure which direction they're going in with their academic career, so the learning environment can be a bit stagnant when it comes to class discussions. Higher-level, more specialized classes become more difficult.
Dorm Life ACC doesn't provide dorms.
Food and Dining Some cafes are located on ACC campuses. The food is good for the price.
What to do for fun Student life offers a variety of activities and ACC is always involved with the community.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Our mascot is the Riverbat. It's a famous Austin tradition of watching the Mexican free-tail bats leave at night from under Congress bridge in the fall.
Great for these types of students First starting out college students who are still figuring out what they want to study and are able to experiment in different areas without breaking the bank.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I love the classes because they are small and professors have the time to help students one on one. I like that there are multiple campuses, but dislike that not all campuses have the basic courses required. I must say the flexiblility of choosing when you want to go to a class, the number of days, and the total number weeks you would like to attend a class is amazing-other colleges require one to go when they tell you to and classes on Monday and Wednesday mean there is also class on Friday (which I have never gone to).
Tips for prospective students Speak with an advisor and do not necessarily assume you need to know what you want to major in. ACC is perfect for those who live in-district because tuition in affordable and could end up saving hundreds compared to if one went to a university.
Dorm Life None
Food and Dining Depends on which campus one attends. Luckily they are mostly in Austin outside of downtown so there are grocery centers and some have lots of fast food places around.
What to do for fun Nothing much to do since I work before and after my classes. I love in labs that one works in groups (Biology) and exchanging of contact information is a must.
Bang for the buck Extremely affordable if one lives in-district, but for those of us who live a mile outside from the boundaries must pay around $300 per credit hour.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Cedar Park
Riverside campus on Riverside and Grove St
South Austin campus next to Stassney and Manchaca
Pinnacle campus by 290/71 Oak Hill intersectionGreat for these types of students Tis a good choice for those who are not sure what they want to persue or do not financially have the money to attend major university. It also works well for adults who raise a family, have kids, work full time during the day because there are online classes and night/weekend classes too.
Clubs and Activities There are lots of activities but I'm not aware of them.
Campus Safety Lots of officers on campus but there are not too many cameras and surveillance in the parking lots. However during emergency evacutions it is obvious where one is suppose to go.

What to do for fun not really a college for activities. more to get use to the schedule life of college and get either basics or a associate's degree.

Dorm Life there are no dorms here.
Food and Dining acc has a cafe called simon's cafe and the food is alright tastewise, but it's kind of expensive.
What to do for fun join a club or organization and visit the student life center.
Bang for the buck in-district students get a great deal on tuition costs, but out-of-district students have to pay almost twice as much. it's still much cheaper than what i'd have to pay at university though.
Great for these types of students students who want to save money and transfer to a 4 year university later, and those who want to take esl classes.
Clubs and Activities there are lots of activities going on year round, but i wish there were more clubs. i think there's about two dozen that are active at the moment.
Greek Life not really much of a greek life here...

They student lab is very nice and helps those students who need the extra help in their studies. Since I've became a student with ACC, I can honestly say I've gain some much needed knowledge for my studies.
Am enjoying being here The campus is great! Friendly people, and teachers. There is always something going with the campus and they try to make it as fun as a university with some of the clubs they have on campus!
Bang for the buck The campus is very cheaper than going straight into a university! I see some people only paying $700.00 for three classes. That's really not bad. I recommend everyone to look into the campus before going into a university. It's a lot cheaper to do your basic courses there and transfer to the school of your choice.
Tips for prospective students Be very alert, and get to know your teachers! They don't know anything more about you besides your work and grades! Build a relationship with them for better understanding of certain situations later on down the line. Also, come to class prepared and ready to learn! Be energized!!
Great for these types of students Students who would like to take basic courses and learn the hang of college before going to a university.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is your own personal choice how much knowledge you receive from your education. ACC professors and curriculum provide the opportunity for you to learn!
Am enjoying being here I've always found the students, professors and administration to be friendly and attentive to my queries.
Bang for the buck My opinion is quite biased on this point because I do receive veteran assistance, but I have looked at many colleges in the area and ACC offers affordable education. Now if we could only say that about textbook publishers ;)
Tips for prospective students Visit with advisers, tour the campuses and register as soon as you possibly can!
Great for these types of students Working mom's and dads (like me and my wife), students on a budget, students not quite yet sure what degree they want to seek.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot ACC offers a very broad list of classes that any student can enjoy. Within each class there are many different teachers that have many different styles of teaching which create a wide variety of ways to learn at ACC.
Am enjoying being here ACC is a low stress high success college. All campus' are located in convenient locations in Austin, and each campus has it's own area of focus. The buildings are clean, and the staff are friendly. Even your classmates are average people just like you who are easy to get along with.
Bang for the buck ACC is very cheap and offers scholarships for people in need. I've never been happier with the bang for my buck than at ACC.
Tips for prospective students If you haven't decided what you want to do, or where to go, then taking your core classes at ACC is a pretty good idea. While you think about what you want to do with your life, you can make steady progress towards that goal without even realizing it.
Great for these types of students If your family can't afford to help you that much with college, ACC is a great deal. The credits at ACC transfer to most major universities, so it really is a great deal.
