    Will learn a lot

The staff and employees of the campus are both kind and knowledgeable of their areas. The presentations I have seen from professors during orientation demonstrates how varied they are and creative in their ways of instruction.

    Will enjoy being here

The dorms are nice, there are lots of places to dine, and finding events, deals, and things to do are all easy tasks. I plan on enjoying both my time on campus learning as well as being involved with the many organizations that are available.

    Bang for the buck

While the university is big-small in that it has large amounts of potential, while having a small campus feel, the prices can be quite expensive. Without financial aid, grants, and assistance, Ball State University can quickly became expensive. Thankfully, the programs in all areas from tuition aid to meal plans are well constructed and fit to your everyday life.

    Tips for prospective students

Ball State University is a great place with a beautiful campus that has many resources for prospective students. During orientation, all of the staff were extremely helpful and I learned many things that I did not know about the school (and I have lived in Muncie all my life)!

Great for these types of students

Ball State is great for Greek Life, Student Organizations, Student run publications, and student-run/school approved parties each saturday. There are plenty of areas for abroad study and preparing you for any profession where you might do graduate studies elsewhere.

    Am learning a lot

Ball State is giving me several opportunities to stand out from the crowd. I am an Elementary major and I will be studying abroad in the summer in Britain and I am also taking a couple immersive classes. Ball State is all about getting you in the field and collecting experience

    Am enjoying being here

I have done random roommate both years while in the dorm and BSU has done a fantastic job paring me up with somebody. I haven't had any problems with my roommate... except one was kind of smelly so bring some air freshener! Over all I am having a fantastic time at Ball State. I didn't think I would have this much fun at college. But you really do meet friends you will know for the rest of your life.

    Bang for the buck

Ball State is kind of pricy especially if you are out of state but you tuition does include several things. You can get free tutoring and study materials for just about anything. The library we have here is one of the best around. From journal articles to an AMAZING teacher's resource section and renting cd's and dvd's, BSU library has it all!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an open mind when coming to college. If you don't like any of your classes and just aren't feeling the school it's ok to transfer I know several people who have transfered to BSU from other schools and vice versa. BSU is a fantastic place to attend school. Oh and pack an umbrella and rain boots... I promise you will need them.

Great for these types of students

Nursing, tcom, education majors, music majors, music education majors, singers, and several more just go to BSU.edu!!

    Am learning a lot

BSU offers lots of educational opportunities. Weather your seeking help from peers, professors or advisers, there is tons of help everywhere. Being a student here at Ball State, I've learned many different ways of learning. BSU offers a wide range of courses that I look forward to attending.

    Am enjoying being here

This University and the community offers so many things that make me feel comfortable. BSU offers tons of things to do, so I don't feel like I'm only wrapped up in my studies. I have time to step away from hard studying with the many events going on, on campus or even if I just want to work out for a little while, bsu has a GREAT exercise faculty and tons on organizations and teams to get involved in. AND everything is in walking distance on campus.

    Bang for the buck

I'm assuming that this means Do you get what you pay for? and I would say you sure do!!! Though Ball State in on the expensive side, I'm glad to know I'm NOT paying lots for a little. BSU has great places to eat like, Woodworth, Noyer and the Atrium, to name my favs. They offer fresh food, made to order. And if you want some great wings but cause afford Buffalo Wild Wings, get some wings from Lafollette! YUM! lol but I'm also paying for a convenient shuttle service called Charlie Charter or the regular shuttles to and from class on those cold early morning and nights. The only thing is I wish parking wasn't so limited and the food was open until 12am some days.

    Tips for prospective students

    ****NOTE****
be prepared!!! you never know what you need, from clothes (crazy weather in Indiana), supplies (projects on top of projects), laundry money, cleaning things (vacuum) and just know we do have community bath rooms so protect yourself and get some SHOWER SHOES and a caddy... oh and carry i.d. EVERYWHERE, you will need it for literally EVERYTHING

Great for these types of students

individuals who want to be involved:
    -teams
    -clubs
    -organizations
    -residents hall counsel

This is a campus ran by students under the supervision of professionals. This is a College for students who are seeking Independence and success.

I feel that Ball State University wants you to succeed. If you actually pay attention in class and at least do the minimum of what you need to do in the class, I think you'll be just fine. The professors are what I enjoy the most. They are very personable and will try their best to help you. Sometimes, it can be pretty obvious that some degrees are a lot more in depth and need a lot more time dedicated to them than other degrees. I am here for Music Education. I have been challenged but I come out of the class feeling like I have learned a lot more than I did coming in.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here for the most part. I graduated from a high school in Indiana so I was concerned that I would see a lot of people from my high school. I do see people from high school, but I do not see them all the time. Ball State opened me up to a lot of people from all over, including people from other countries. Not to mention there is always something to do on campus.

    Bang for the buck

In state tuition is pretty good here. Living on campus is hardly worth paying so much. I did not enjoy dorm living, especially for how much I had to pay to live there. However, I do see that Ball State tries to take you in effect. They try to put you in places where you will be with people in the same major or at least in some of your classes so you are not teamed up with a bunch of strangers. I highly suggest taking summer classes if you live in state. Core classes tend to be pretty in-expensive and you are not in class as long.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not bring a relationship to college. You are starting a new chapter in your life and you are bringing something that is going to put a lot of stress on that relationship.
Open up to people around here. You will make a lot of great, new friends and it sucks to have to go home every weekend just to see people.
If you can, find a roommate before you move into your dorm. I ended up with a roommate that was just horrid. I think I would have been a lot better off living with someone I knew and was friends with than a complete stranger.
If you are going to drink, be smart about it. Majors dealing with nursing, education, law, etc., you can lose everything if you are arrested for drinking.

Great for these types of students

Great for social people. We have Greek fraternities and sororities, but you do not have to be in them to have a good time.
Music students. Everyone tends to go to IU, but if you want a little less stress in your life, I recommend coming to Ball State.
Creative people in general. Our campus is a work of art, let alone our classes and majors.
Anyone really. There is a club for just about anything and anyone is welcome to join. I took up fencing. It was amazing to learn something new.

There is always something to do and people to meet. Everyone here is nice and friendly. When students get involved in activities on campus, you will see that there is always people who care. It is better to be involved and have fun. Be a dare devil and come out of your bubble. Talk to people and become friends with others that way you can have fun and have something to do when it is raining or freezing outside!!!! The buildings are close and easy to get to, and the professors are here to help everyone succeed. They want everyone to get good grades and everyone to do their best.

    Tips for prospective students

Here at Ball State University, the best thing to do is to get involved. Ball State is good at making everyone welcomed and is good at being very diverged. No one here should ever feel left out or out of place cause we are good at making sure no one is. Ball state is a great place to be. A ton of fun and home welcoming place. There is something to do for everyone!!!

Great for these types of students

Ball State is good for anyone. If you are someone who is shy, well you have come to the right place. We are here to help you come out of your bubble and meet new people. We are here to support everyone one and help everyone succeed in their plans.

i'm not afraid to ask questions here. i thought that going into college i'd feel too intimidated by my professors and refuse to talk to them. however, after my first chemistry class i had an actual conversation with my chemistry teacher and he was more than happy to answer all the questions i had about the lecture. they actually care about your grades and when they care, you care which causes you to learn a lot more.

    Am enjoying being here

i always have something to do at ball state, whether it's going to CRU, being involved with hall council, or just going out with friends on the weekends. i'm never ever bored. i love everything about the campus, from bracken library to the food (we have the BEST college campus food). ball state isn't too big, but it's also not too small. it's honestly the perfect size.

    Bang for the buck

i can't tell you how much free stuff i recieved within the first few weeks of school. i think half my wardrobe consists of ball state tshirts that they were just handing out to anyone that walked by. with your meal plans, you get a lot of food for the 7.55 you're given. all the food is really cheap. you get a lot for your money, for example, access to an amazing new gym, free plays, and a bus that will take you anywhere in Muncie.

    Tips for prospective students

get involved as soon as you can (preferably the first few weeks). you meet so many new and interesting people, people you never in a million years thought you'd be friends with. this isn't high school anymore, so you don't have to have your little cliches anymore. you're aloud to be your own person, choose to do whatever you want. think being in the ball room dancing club sounds fun? or humans versus zombies? go for it, chances are you're not going to be the only one to show up for the first meeting. =]

Great for these types of students

ball state offers tons of different clubs, organizations, and even majors that will fit anyone's needs. i personally feel like just about anyone can come to ball state and feel at home. it's an easy place to feel accepted.

Ball State University is a great place to get a college education. As they say, Education Redefined. All professors and grad students are there to help. The learning center is an amazing place to get help with tutoring done by peers or even professors. Even hall directors and RA's are willing to help.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many dorms for students to live in, and building even newer dorms. Dorm rooms can be comfortable if you know how to use space wisely. There are many places to eat, and you cannot go wrong with the 4 meal plans they offer. They offer Friday night movies, and also late night on Saturday nights, along with fun events through out the year. Late night are themed events, and fun.

    Bang for the buck

Though college tuition is not cheap, Ball State is one of the cheapest Indiana public colleges. Its cheaper than IU and Purdue, and less than private colleges. Ball State is willing to help, with scholarships and financial aid if needed. There are many job opportunities as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Moving away from home will be the hardest adjustment.
Find an organization that you will like and enjoy.
Be prepared for Muncie weather-it seems to rain a lot.
    bring quarters-they equal your life.

    Am learning a lot

All of the professors in the Journalism and TCOM departments all where their hearts on their sleeves; they clearly love their professions and create friendly yet professional atmospheres in their classes. Between being able to write for and learn from the daily newspaper, being a part of one of the many student run organizations and having the genuinely state of the art facilities for just about all my classes, I'm learning much of what I'll need to know.

    Am enjoying being here

The surrounding city isn't that lively, yet their are plenty of organizations and events to make up for that. If you put forth an effort, you can find a group that you would enjoy being a part of. There are nearby restaurants and bars in The Village (a cluster of establishments near campus), but beyond what's on or right around campus, this isn't much the city itself has to offer. Downtown Muncie has a few bars/restaurants/stores to go to and sometimes art walks are held down there. Don't expect an exciting time off campus here.

    Bang for the buck

While moderately expensive at times, Ball State is a good school. For journalism, architecture and telecommunications students, you certainly get a good deal for coming here for reasons stated above. The dining areas have pretty good food; which places you'll like depend on your tastes, but you can find at least one place you would eat at frequently. The newer dorms are very nice (Park and Dehority are like almost hotel-like; Elliot [Hogwarts in some circles] looks like a castle) while the older ones are still decent. Free public bus rides and good opportunities for obtaining scholarships/internships through the website help this category quite a bit.

    Tips for prospective students

Get out of your comfort zone, find an organization that relates to what you like/want to do after graduating/getting your degree and work to better that organization in some way. In turn, you will better yourself.

Great for these types of students

    Architecture
    Journalism
    Telecommunications
    Education

Those that don't mind small towns

    Am learning a lot

Here at Ball State University, I am learning so much. Not only do I have well respected staff members teaching me all I need to know about every subject I am interested in, but I am also learning how to get involved in the college experience.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Ball State University because there's always something to do. If you're bored during the week there are always guest speakers to see about any major or topic. There are also comedians who visit campus, as well as hypnotists and other forms of entertainment. There is also Late Nite which is a student-run party for students to attend on Saturday nights. This allows students with an alternative to alcohol and drugs. The campus is very clean and well organized. The dorm rooms are actually quite spacey and there are plenty of choices for dining. Ball State also allows job opportunities for students who are looking to make extra money. The residence halls are safe and the staff is very friendly.

    Bang for the buck

When you are a Ball State Cardinal you definitely get what you pay for. Though college tuition is not cheap at Ball State it is worth it to attend such a well rounded university. Private schools cost twice as much and other public schools that may be cheaper will not give you the college experience you may be looking for. Ball State does. With group and individual activities, tutoring, career opportunities, entertainment, and free transportation Ball State really knows how to help out a college student.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to campus with you mind set on one specific major. Be open to trying new things and meeting new people. Join a club or organization, maybe even a team sport. Don't be afraid to ask for help, that's why Ball State offers free tutoring services. Get out and be active there's always something new to do. Enjoy yourself, this is college this is where dreams are made!

Great for these types of students

All students. If you're looking for a college that's not too large but not too small, then choose Ball State. Maybe you're looking for a campus that's nearby to boutiques and restaurants, then choose Ball State and visit The Village. Ball State has something for everyone.

Ball State both allows and requires each student to receive a well-rounded education while in attendance. There are a variety of options and availabilities to ensure that you receive the education you desire. The teachers are all top notch and the best at their job. Each course is a challenge and an opportunity to gain knowledge and learn lessons. There is always something to keep you busy regardless of your taste.

    Am enjoying being here

Ball State has a variety of events and opportunities to keep you from ever being bored. There are a wide variety of student organizations ranging from every possible activity. The campus is continuing to be improved aesthetically and the buildings are state of the art.

    Bang for the buck

Ball State has its ways to take your money, but they can easily be avoided. The meal plan is a good way to empty your checkbook, as well as book rental. Shop online or stores elsewhere for your books, and make sure you're spending your meal money.

    Tips for prospective students

Take time to get to know the campus and make sure you're aware of all it has to offer. Get to know the school web-site very well, as well as the professors in your major.

Great for these types of students

Students who have a passion and desire to learn. Students who aren't sure what they want to do yet. Students with a wide variety of interests and tastes. Students who are willing to work hard.

The professors that I have had thus far are so great about giving you the facts that have to do with their class based upon the literature in the class in a manor that keeps you listening and holds your attention.

    Am enjoying being here

I felt so welcome within the first week of being on campus. Those that had been attending Ball State in years past were so kind to all of the incoming freshman. Throughout the year, there were so many opportunities to get involved, which made me feel so comfortable being on campus!

    Bang for the buck

I love the campus, and I loved being there, but it was a burden having to find money to go there. Ball State did do a great job, however, with helping me find a way to pay for school.

    Tips for prospective students

It is important to always be yourself: when looking for a school, applying for scholarships, and becoming your own person. Ball State is great if that is you!
Make sure to be diligent in your search. You will find the right school for you.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for you if you want to meet tons of people from different walks of life, who all want to experience life in a way that they never have before. If you want to be challenged, come to this school. You will learn so much!

Ball State pushes academic excellence. The students learn a lot, not only academically, but about themselves as well.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere on campus is upbeat and exciting. People are nice and the campus is safe. There is something for everyone, with hundreds of student organizations from sports and dancing to film and knitting clubs.

    Bang for the buck

Ball State provides a top-notch education for much less than other schools. There are great scholarships and financial aid available as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the Honors College. Its like a small liberal arts college within Ball State. Classes are smaller and discussion-based, and there are lots of perks to being an Honors Student, such as the new Residence Hall.

Great for these types of students

Ball State has one of the leading Telecommunications programs in the country. Its an exciting, hands-on program for anyone looking to get involved with Film, Television, Radio, Broadcasting, Journalism, News. Ball State has the most recent technology available to its students. BSU is also great for majors in Teaching, Architecture, and Theatre.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned a lot about my major, more than I thought I would, in my freshman year. The teachers are very helpful and willing to meet with you for any reason at all!

    Am enjoying being here

I have met so many nice people, teachers and students. People on your dorm floor are like another family here, and they help you with homework, homesickness, or will just come over and chat! They are a pleasant distraction. The people I have met make this place much more enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

The classes are worth the money. The housing could be better considering they are constantly upgrading the dorms. There is a weekly event called Late Nite that is paid for with tuition money, and the event is not worth the weekly cost of $5000. Students are free, however. The food is priced a bit too high, but it is college. This should be expected.

    Tips for prospective students

The school offers a plan where you can sign a housing and dining contract for two years. No matter what, I suggest that you sign this. There are some great perks with it like early moving-in dates, free parking, extra dining allowance, priority choice for residence halls the following year, and pay the same rates for two years!!!!

Great for these types of students

This campus seems to have a lot of people majoring in journalism/telecommunications, business, nursing, and teaching. Also, this campus is great for people who want to get involved with things rather than sitting in their dorm rooms. If you do not want to be involved with anything, I suggest you DO NOT come here.

Most of my current professors are really great (as opposed to information faucets) and are very willing to spend extra time in a variety of ways, from routine study sessions for each test to extensive office hours, to help you learn what you want to learn. There are also many campus resources to offer help with specific courses. Ball State also houses an Honors College. The Honors College boasts very small class sizes and a different, more discussion-based, learning style.

    Am enjoying being here

Every week events involving politics, live music, the cultures of foreign countries, community service, and general entertainment take place. BSU frequently hosts speakers on all topics from a huge variety of backgrounds (from Congress, the CDC, and an Olympic Quad-Rugby team). BSU has a fairly large population but is spread over a fairly small area. Walking between classes is not difficult.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is pretty expensive, especially for out of state students, but with financial aid and scholarships, it can be extremely affordable. Ball State offers 'meal plans' which are paid for with on-campus room and board and make on-campus dining easy and pretty affordable. Both bus systems, campus-wide and city-wide, are completely free for BSU students.

    Tips for prospective students

-Get your financial aid and scholarships in order.
-If you had some decent standardized test scores (SAT and/or ACT) definitely apply to the Honors College, it's not a huge extra step. The benefits include smaller class sizes, a nice (air-conditioned) freshman dorm, better library privileges, and other perks.
-Get involved, ASAP. There are tons of activities and organizations just waiting for you to find them.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for a compromise between very large and very small schools.
Students with ample scholarships, aid, or funds.
Independent students unafraid to get involved and try new things.
BSU has a large population of physically disabled students.

Ball State's academics can be either very rewarding or a huge disappointment--depending on what you study. In my first year, I majored in architecture, hoping to learn more about the profession and the craft involved. However, I was sorely disappointed as I found that the academia involved in the architecture program's first year was designed entirely to make students quit. I changed my major to English (something I enjoyed more anyway), and I have never regretted the decision. The English department really hones your skills and tells you exactly how it is. Sure, the job market may not be great for English majors, but with the skills and the knowledge that this department has imparted upon me, I feel that I actually have a chance in the world.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus can be very beautiful at times, when construction isn't going on. As for the dorms, some are better than others. The older dorms on campus: Johnson, LaFollette, are in need of some repairs, but they are the quintessential college dorm. The newer dorms on campus are slightly more luxurious, but don't be fooled. While you may be going into the new DeHority and Kinghorn Halls in awe at the decor and hotel-like feeling, just remember that drywall does not block out sound well at all.

    Bang for the buck

Depending on your financial aid and scholarships, Ball State can be a great deal. My husband and I are living off campus, and with our scholarships included, only paying about 3000 each per year. Sure, there are better deals out there, and its also possible that you may have to go full price. However, Ball State is a good choice for a tight budget--and you still get all that good ol' college experience, too.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should remember to vary their dining options. While it's quick and easy to go to the closest place every night, just remember that any food can make you sick if you have too much of it. Also, if you are in a major that has any type of studio, be prepared to lose sleep. Not everything can get done in a four-hour class session, and if you try it, you (and your professors) may not be happy with the results. Just remember that there are some majors that are easier than others... but you should really pick what suits you.

Great for these types of students

Ball State is great for any type of student. There are environments for all types. If you like to take it a little easy and not worry too much about your studies, then LaFollette is your dream dorm and a big lecture hall is your ideal classroom. However, if you want to be in on the action and involved with your studies, try living in Park Hall. Also, go for the Honors College classes. They are much more discussion based, and, actually, sometimes much easier to handle than the main campus courses.

Ball State University definitely offers a lot when it comes to the quality of your education. While large lecture halls exist, a good number of your classes are close and personal, giving the professor an opportunity to know you and better assist you personally when you feel you need it most. The professors are always willing to help and help you get the most out of your classes.

Of course, some people do have difficulty learning some material, but the extensive tutoring network is always there for any class. Whether it's at the Learning Center or through the teaching assistants for that specific class. There are even learning assistants who live right in the dorms and can set up tutoring sessions close to home.

Sometimes the costs can mount up, but you're definitely getting something out of it.

    Am enjoying being here

I considering this campus to be my home away from home. Before coming here you dread living in the dorms and rooming with a complete stranger. But after being here for just a little bit, you quickly come to love the campus because of it's beauty and accessibility, but it's also so easy to make new friends just about every corner you turn.

The environment is almost always friendly, and even in stressful times like finals week you can always find a place to relax--whether that's in the first floor lounge of the dorms, or sitting out by the duck-pond when it's nice and warm outside.

One of the things I enjoy most about this campus is that, even if you don't have a car, you can still find your way to the nearest Subway, or even the mall or Walmart. The city buses are well maintained and free for any Ball State student to ride any day of the week. They go right the campus and make stops at the Muncie Mall, Target, Muncie Plaza (which includes the movie theater and Kohl's), Walmart, and even the Silvertree Apartments (so even if you live off campus, you can still find your way back here). Then just at the end of campus we have what is called The Village that includes a Subway, a Jimmy John's (which delivers to the dorms), and the infamous Carter's Hot Dogs as well as Greek's Pizza. Papa John's may not be in walking distance, but they deliver directly to the dorms any day they are open.

This campus is build to be convenient and with the chance to always find something fun to do.

    Bang for the buck

Admittedly, at times, the costs can be a bit too much for some students. However, whether you are and in-state or out-of-state student, I feel that the costs are decently fair in comparison with some other bigger name universities in Indiana.

Even if you are having difficulties paying the fees, the financial aide center is ever willing to advise you when you need the help most.

    Tips for prospective students

My first bit of advise is do not be afraid to share a dorm with someone you have never met before. I know you hear stories about the horrendous things this complete stranger can do, but most cases do not end in that manner. A good number of roommates end up being friends, or at least pleasant acquaintances. And don't forget to leave your dorm room door open when you aren't changing or sleeping! It's a great way to meet the people in your halls (even try going around your building and introducing yourself to others who have their doors open as well). Also, do not be afraid to sit next to a stranger in a classroom. I know we all go for that empty seat that sits alone, but you're not going to make many friends sitting by yourself.

Also, when in the classroom, a good number of professors are going to allow you to use your laptops to take notes. Please do not abuse this privilege. I've had professors ban a whole class from using their laptops in class because one or two people simply could not stay off of facebook. Also, you'll quickly find it's rather hard to pay attention and take care of your farmville at the same time. Same goes for cell phones. It's so embarrassing to be that one person who doesn't put their phone on vibrate and suddenly it's singing Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus for everyone to hear (and it's even more embarrassing when you're professor asks you to sing a verse from Buttercup as punishment for leaving your phone on in class).

If you know you are not going to be able to get up at 7 in the morning, do not sign up for an 8 am class unless it's a class you enjoy going to and know you'll find the motivation to get up and go. If you're ever in need of a little extra spending cash, Lucina Hall has the career center that offers campus jobs all year round. Also, if you feel your class is too far away, or it's just too cold outside to walk to the other end of campus, then leave a bit earlier for your class and try to catch a shuttle that runs back and forth across campus.

Lastly, there are three stores--the campus one and the two in The Village--which sell textbooks. Shop around before you buy (or sell back) so you can get the most for your money.

Great for these types of students

Ball State offers a variety of majors and minors to its students. However, if you are an Architecture major, Telecommunications major, Business major, Music/Theater major, or Teaching major then I think this school has a lot to offer you.

Of course, if you are also a General Studies major, Psychology major, Nursing major, and scientific field major, any kind of physical therapy or medical technology major, this university also offers you a grand opportunity to earn a well-rounded degree. There are of course also many other departments and majors and minors offered, and all it takes is for you to access the Ball State website at www.bsu.edu to read more about them.

Ball State's professors are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure your education is rewarding. They want you to see you succeed and are willing to help in any way possible. Any questions that you may have, they are willing to answer and don't make you feel as though your question was stupid

    Am enjoying being here

College is the best experience and being at Ball State has made it that much better. It's like a home away from home. I live in Stu West on the ninth floor and everyone on my floor is very considerate and willing to help each other out. The food is also very good and is not your typical cafeteria food.

    Bang for the buck

Education can become very expensive, however, going to Ball State is worth it. There are a lot of scholarships and financial aids to help ease the cost of tution as well. The school also grants some scholarships as well to top scholar students. By keeping good grades, people are bound to notice and throw some money your way.

    Tips for prospective students

Look into as many schools and visit as many schools as possible before making your decision as to which college you will attend. This will help reinforce your decision by seeing what other colleges have to offer

Great for these types of students

BSU is a great place for just about anyone. Ball State offers a wide range of options for majors and there are people available to help you decide your major if you are undecided. Teamwork and perseverance are a great way to tackle your future and Ball State is a Great place to start.

Ball State University is college that is concerned with the learning of their students. So far I have never run into a professor that doesn't care about their students. Ball State also has many nation wide ranked programs. Choosing BSU would be one of the best decisions you could make!

    Am enjoying being here

Along with the academics Ball State is also concerned with the fun their students have. They make sure that there is a program for nearly every student on campus. They hold events that are out of this world and are a safe place for students go. They understand that college isn't all about the studying and grades, college is also about making friends and having a good time.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to many of the other colleges i looked at Ball State was one of the cheaper schools. I truly feel like I have got a good deal for being here! The campus is beautiful, the teachers are awesome, and all together Ball State gives you your moneys worth!

    Tips for prospective students

College is a fun time in your life and you are given a ton of freedom. However, remember that the freedom you are given should be taken as a form of responsibility. Having fun is okay, but you have to remember its not everything. Making the grade and going to class is just as important. Go to class, study, then go have fun. If you keep your priorities in line, you will succeed here at Ball State University!

Ball State is great for any student who has the hopes of becoming a successful adult!

The professors at Ball State are all about getting the students to learn. The professors are always willing to help. The professors are nice and do not hesitate to see students outside of class to further help them if need be.

I love the Ball State community. The people are all kind and friendly. There is always something going on on campus and therefore there is always something to do. There are a variety of events throughout the year.

So far all the professors are great, they will work with you and are very willing to meet with you even outside of office hours if you make an appointment. Classes for the most part are approximately 100 or less from my experience even in the core curriculum classes.

    Am enjoying being here

The college is great there is always lots to do and plenty to be involved in! There are clubs for just about every interest from knitting to sky diving! Ball State is constantly building improving and updating their facilities, soon we will have a indoor rock climbing wall, bike shop and outdoor gear store all right here on campus! Dining Services on this campus are some of the best I have found ANYWHERE! There is a huge selection and they are pretty evenly spread all over campus for easy access. Ball State is a great place to be and you should definitely check it out, the website is a great resource!

    Bang for the buck

Ball State offers a huge number of scholarships just remember apply early and really try hard on those scholarship essays, they count! Also the number of activities and opportunities Ball State provides to students free of charge is amazing. We can get free tickets to shows that the community pays 30 dollars or more for and they aren't just back row seats either (I got tickets about 7-10 rows from the stage!). The LateNite program is nice it is free for students and provides free food!

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for scholarships early! Use the school website it is very easy to navigate and if very helpful! Residence life does a pretty good job of matching roommates in my experience, so don't worry too much if you can't find a roommate. Use the MITS bus it is free for students and you can at least get to the most critical places in muncie without a car or the long hike out to the football parking lot! If your a freshman just keep in mind that the football parking lot is a long way off and you can't park on campus except on weekends, so a bike might be better for freshman year if you are living on campus.

Great for these types of students

Ball State has many well know and highly reputable programs including business, telecommunications, teaching, architecture and many more. It is a really great place to live and study.

    Academic Rigor

in my first semester at ball state i have been involved in my studies very regularly. in high school i was always focused on my grades and i studied often, but i did not quite know the meaning of studying all the time until i got to college. the beauty of college is that during the week i am able to do simply nothing but study and it doesn't feel like a major chore like it did in high school. i also incorporate a lot of other activities, like watching television or movies on my laptop when i should be studying, but hey, i'm just a college student.

    Am enjoying being here

For the most part, I do enjoy being at Ball State. I am enrolled in the Honors College and I like the atmosphere of my residence hall because I am able to keep my door open and still be able to study and have that respected. I definitely have had a hard time transitioning into college from high school though, and I wish Ball State did more to help with that in the sens that I wish the week before freshman year had more of a group orientation feel to it instead of orientation only in the summer because it is harder to meet people and make new friends through that.

    Bang for the buck

honestly, school is what you make of it. if you don't put the effort and time into your schoolwork, you are not going to get the bang for your buck so to speak, and that goes for any school. ball state has some really great professors, some mediocre, and some terrible professors, just as any other school. however, being in the honors college is quite helpful for me because i love the smaller 25 people classes as opposed to the 175 student classes where the teacher does not know your name.

    Tips for prospective students

get to know your professors, what they expect, and their rules and guidelines. it is important to know especially what professors want even if it is as simple as how to format a paper or how to email them. i promise that smallest detail that shows you pay attention can help you out. also, try getting involved but not in over your head, and go to class! there are so many classes in which half or more of your grade is attendance! my professors would likely bump up a letter grade for a person who doesn't do as well in the class but shows up interested and works hard every time rather than a person who is good in class but does not show up.

Great for these types of students

ball state kind of has a reputation as a major party school, but you don't have to be in that scene all of the time. i recommend the honors college for anyone who is more liberal based in that they like group discussion, reading/writing, and small classes. i personally love the flow of the honors college, and even though most people think it would be more difficult, it is not any more difficult than other core classes you have to take on campus. bsu is also great for people looking for a medium amount of students on campus on a smaller grounds that can get to class in 5-10 minutes.

As one would expect from any university, some of the professors/teachers are really brilliant, and some really aren't. However, in my experience, the staff is absolutely incredible in providing extra help whenever I have asked. They want you to succeed too, so they do a lot to help you out. You really need to do more than just be in class; you must study a lot outside of class to do extra well. I would even suggest contacting the staff ahead of time to get some extra pointers; I have done so, and most of them have replied giving me study guides for finals and midterms MONTHS in advanced, helping me gain a head start.

    Am enjoying being here

Because I am from the West coast, it is a LOT different living in Muncie, Indiana because of the extreme temperatures. And being from Renton means Seattle, Bellevue, and a lot of the big cities are only a 15 minute drive from my house. It kills me to be in such farmland areas with terrible weather. However, the people are really nice. Midwestern boys are more polite than Washingtonian boys. And people are very willing to sit down and talk to you randomly which is enjoyable. I don't get homesick because of the people I'm surrounded by at Ball State, but when it comes to things to do, you need to get really crafty because there's not a whole lot to do. My girlfriends and I have pizza, Chinese takeout, movie night once a month, and then IHOP Friday's... and that is our entertainment.

    Bang for the buck

Essentially, even though I'm considered an Out of State student, Ball State is SO worth it because of the scholarship I got, which makes my tuition almost in-state tuition. In addition for some prospective, after doing some number crunching, attending Ball State University is cheaper for me than attending the University of Washington which is only 25 minutes from my house via freeway.

I also work between classes. I would add that Ball State has a lot of opportunities available for the student willing to work.

    Tips for prospective students

The MITS bus system is incredibly unreliable. My boyfriend and I would wait outside of his apartment sometimes 20 minutes early for the bus and it would be 15 minutes late, or we'd come running to the bus stop and watch the bus pass 10 minutes early. This has happened on multiple occasions now.

Get involved with something, whether it is Greek or another on campus group. My closest friends as of now are from the organizations I became involved with.

It might just be me, but it isn't hard to do 17 credit hours and work at the same time. If you're good at time management, you can still have a social life, earn money, and get good grades.

Great for these types of students

This place will be great for people who like to party... I'm sure everybody could pretty much say that. It also is for the person that can handle being on their own. People are nice, but you really need to step out of your comfort zone sometimes to have a social life. My roommate struggled a bit with this and therefore stayed in the dorm a lot of the time, which is no fun.

It would be good for people who are OK with the fact that there is not much to do, especially if you don't have a vehicle.

The professors here each teach their own different way, but are more than willing to help if you ask them. Ball State professors are often here to help, but if they're not there is a learning center that will help you out too.

    Am enjoying being here

There are many clubs to get involved in, and the possibility to create your own. If you're not busy studying or sleeping, you can easily find something fun to do.

    Bang for the buck

This school costs a lot less than most other schools, and you get just as much, if not more, out of it. There are enough opportunities to get plenty of one-on-one help in your classes.

    Tips for prospective students

Stick to your guns and get studying the first semester of your schooling here. Look around at possible opportunities for clubs and games to join, there are plenty here. The first semester is always the hardest, but after that you'll be able to join some clubs and start making friends.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for talented musicians who want to major in music. However, this school does best with teaching majors. If you want to come to school to meet some new friends, have some fun, and get a degree...Ball State is the choice.

I've actually learned more from being here at Ball State than I ever learned from being in High School. I've gained knowledge not just academically, but also knowledge on the real world and the difficulties of being an independent adult. I've only beeen here for four months!

    Am enjoying being here

For the most part I have enjoyed Ball State University. The only thing I really don't like is Ball State's policy on class cancelations during the winter. While every other school in Indiana could be closed during a blizzard, Ball State would only close half a day at best. But this is a small issue that can easily be ignored. Otherwise, life here is fantastic, and the other students and the school's staff are very helpful and courteous.

    Bang for the buck

Ball State is one of the cheapest schools in Indiana. Tuition is surprisingly low. However, the only issue I have is the cost of room and board, which is a little high for a public school. This can easily be avoided if one gets a job (which there a lot offered on campus) and moves into the university apartments and pays a monthly rent. Or you could commute. One of the great things you do get for being a student is a meal plan for the year. So, is Ball State a good bang for your buck? Yes, depending on where you live while you are attending school.

    Tips for prospective students

I can't strees this enough: GET ALL YOUR FINANCIAL PAPERWORK DONE BEFORE YOU START COLLEGE FOR THE YEAR. Beleive me, it's a real pain to have to worry about all that whill you are going to school.

Great for these types of students

I really believe that any average student and above can attend Ball State. Provided you find a way to afford it and that you get accepted, you won't have to worry too much about how well you fit in here.

I am a Math Education Major and I learn tons each semesters. The classes can be challenging but not so difficult that you cannot get through them. There are many ways that you can get help. Many of the teachers will help you do your homework and make sure you understand what is going on.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being here at Ball State! First, the campus is beautiful! I have never been to a campus as pretty as Ball State. Another enjoyment for me is that it distanced me from home but not so far that I could never go home. It is also a nice size campus. It's not so huge that you have to leave for class an hour before it starts but it is still a decent size.

    Bang for the buck

There is a lot of stuff to do at Ball State that is included in part of your tuition. There are musical performances, theatre performances, Friday night film works, which is where they will show a recently released movie, Late Night, there is games, food, music, movies, etc., the carnival and sporting events are free for ball state students. Also some of the music and theatre performances aren't free but are five dollars if you have your Ball State id. There is so much to do and it doesn't hardly cost anything.

    Tips for prospective students

Making friends at your school is major. If you don't have people at the school that you like then you will be miserable. Also finding friends within your major is great, that way you can work on homework together and study for tests. Also get to know your professors. They are willing to help if you will just talk to them. They might also help you get a job in the future.

Great for these types of students

Ball State is a great place for many different majors. I would say that Ball State is great for Education majors though. When Ball State was first founded it was a teachers college and the program has gotten better and better. Ball State has the best teaching program in the state.

Depending on the professors you get and the classes you take, you will learn a lot from this university. Many of the professors are dedicated to help students succeed and grow with knowledge. Not only will you learn from your classes, but the campus life will also provide many new learning experiences. There are endless abilities at BSU.

    Am enjoying being here

I live on campus, and I can say that it has been the best experience. There are many convenient dining places close to and around campus, and there are many different dorms to accommodate different lifestyles. For example, one can request a dorm based on the living-learning communities they provide (students can live in a dorm solely based on their major so that they can interact with people that have the same classes or share the same interests, etc). Overall, dorm life can be a wonderful experience if you're a people person.

    Bang for the buck

The price of attending Ball State can definitely be overwhelming, especially if your family is having financial troubles. However, there are many programs and different types of aid that BSU is willing to help you with.

    Tips for prospective students

Even though procratination is difficult to overcome, I would recommend that. There are many times when students want to relax and take a break from their work, which is fine, but finishing the work as soon as possible and as efficient as possible will relieve those stresses of the work itself. Once way to organize your work is to make a priority list of the most important work to finish first, based on your own opinion.

Great for these types of students

Students interested in fraternities and sororities, along with other clubs and activities.

Students interested in majors such as eduation, telecommunications, criminal justice/criminology, business, journalism, and many others. If you have interests, Ball State University most likely has something for you.

Out of all my classes the faculty members have been very helpful by answering my questions both respectfully and knowledgeably. Although many of my classes are core curriculum classes that i have to take some have already been for my major of Architecture. I also learn outside of class through the groups on campus and the programs they offer.

    Am enjoying being here

After getting through the first couple of weeks being away from home, I had developed my natural routine. Ever since then the time on campus has been fun. Everything is on campus including food, fun, gyms, sports and more activities that groups put on for the students. The dorms are small but it is always nice to have a place to call home. But once again after the routine sets in college life is smooth sailing.

    Bang for the buck

Although Ball State can seem expensive the wonderful school is actually a lot cheaper than most schools it's size. Included in my tuition is three meals a day, an air condition dorm room and many free programs to get involved with. The pay is not so bad for what you get with the great education.

    Tips for prospective students

    A few tips:
-Do not room with your best friend.
    -Get involved with student life.
-Make sure to get supplies for class before you need it.
-If you have a car and plan to use it at school, make sure to park in the right areas.
    -Go to every class
    - DO THE HOMEWORK.

The classes are rigorous enough to make sure that students get their money's worth, but not so difficult that one must struggle. They cover a lot of material and have high, yet attainable standards of their students academically.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is absolutely gorgeous. I enjoy the classes, but I enjoy walking about the campus and taking it all in. Also, with Minnetrista Nature Center close, it is very easy to find natural beauty. Further, the people are all very nice and welcoming. Truly a wonderful experience.

    Bang for the buck

Professors and classes are high quality. The residence halls are very nice and well maintained. We have many options for dining, such as Starbuck's, Jamba Juice, Chic-fil-a, etc. These are simply not offered in many other places and we can use our meal plans to eat there.

    Tips for prospective students

Come see the campus. Schedule a visit, take a tour, and then stick around and explore after the tour is done with, so you can experience the whole area. It is truly a worthwhile school and I urge you to apply.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for any student. Ball State is very accessible for any type of student with any type of physical handicap or impairment. Ball State is very well known for its Teacher Education programs, as well as many others. There are many students that are extreme academic overachievers that are able to enjoy full semesters with ECAs and many courses, as well as some who prefer to take light courseloads and work things out slowly.

I am a dual major in Elementary Education/Special Education, Exceptional Needs: Mild Interventions, and I absolutely love it! BSU offers plenty of hands-on experiences in the classroom settings to help you prepare for student teaching and your own classroom.

    Am enjoying being here

There are a lot of extracurricular opportunities available on-campus that make Ball State an exciting place to be. I am currently involved in the Christian Campus House and Student Council for Exceptional Children, and I was in Hall Council last semester. I'm also involved in an immersive learning program where I have the change to get into the community and work with people from Muncie on a daily basis.

    Bang for the buck

I think that I am definitely getting my money's worth! The only complaint I have is the meal plan. Dorm food is okay, but it gets old after a while, especially for someone who loves to cook her own food.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, and make sure you visit any college you're considering. I didn't find out that I couldn't afford my first choice school until March (it was out of state, and I was waiting for the results of a scholarship contest sponsored by that school). When I found out I wasn't going there after all, I panicked because it was the only school I had visited. The first school on my what do I do now list was Ball State. I came here, and fell in love immediately!

The social life is awesome, IF you put yourself out there. There is always something going on around campus, and often times in your dorm building.

    Bang for the buck

Ball State has a lower tuition than several other schools I was looking at. College is not cheap, but it's completely worth it-as long as students take their studies seriously. The professors here are dedicated to their subjects and are always willing to help out their students.

    Will learn a lot

Venturing around the campus and sneaking a look into some lectures. I've noticed that many of the students are attentive and ask questions. If the student next to them hasn't already helped, the professor answers that question with the greatest sense of accomplishment. The student subsequently feels better about the topic and has surely learned something that day.

    Will enjoy being here

For the couple of times I have been there, I have been entertained and doing something whether on campus or off. Muncie is just an extraordinary place.

    Bang for the buck

Students aren't just giving away money, unless they choose to. Ball State offers so many things for its students. The new recreation facility, with a mountain climbing wall, is awesome!! Also, instead of driving yourself places, a bus will take you there free, so I'm told. And just all the facilities and amenities a student can use will be worth the money one pays for Ball State

    Tips for prospective students

professors at ball state are knowledgable, friendly, and helpful. the courses are challenging, yet engaging and fun. i have learned more this first year in college than i learned in all of high school.

    Will enjoy being here

All the staff has been extremely friendly, students are friendly that I have met, and thoroughly enjoy being on the campus.

    Bang for the buck

although ball state is not the most expensive school out there, times are hard and unless you have tons of scholarships, any school is going to be difficult to pay for. however, ball state is worth the money due to all its programs, faculty, and the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

the campus has a great feel, and there are so many opportunities to learn or be involved. the living-learning communities are wonderful. professors and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. i have felt very at-home on and i plan to stay here all four+ years.

Great for these types of students

students who are majoring in education, telecommunications, business, or may not know what career they are interested in. any students also looking for personal attention from professors, yet a larger campus feel.

Ball State is as diverse as any university can be and it is extremely vibrant. The campus is beautiful and hard to pull yourself away from. The faculty is great and you truly will be immersed in your learning, not just partially involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Every student needs to be aware that every university, including Ball State, is very competitive in almost every area of study. It is important to stay on top of your grades, meet with your counselors, and find what truly speaks to you. Don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions and find out what really suites and interests you. There is something for everyone.

    Academic Rigor

Ball State, as mentioned previously, is extremely rigorous in almost every aspect and field. There are programs and tracks that people have to apply to within the college and it is no cake walk. There are challenges, which is why it is important to be focused from day one. There is always help, like tutors and study, which can help tremendously. Ball State has so many different programs and offers for help that it is a waste not to take advantage of them all!

    Dorm Life

Dorm life was amazing! It was the best transition I could have asked for going from home to school. I was able to choose a roommate that really matched my qualities and I felt respected by. All of the people in my dorm that I met were also extremely kind and thoughtful. We all learned to share the study rooms as well as communicate with each other about events and subjects in school. It was an awesome experience and I loved it!

    Food and Dining

Having eaten dining every day as a freshman and working in dining for a year as a sophomore, I can confidently say, the food at Ball State is top notch and delicious. It is constantly being checked by food regulation measures as well as being updated and improved. There is something open almost always and the options are endless. There are still things I have yet to try as a junior! You will never get sick of always having the same thing to eat, because you don't have to. The meal plans provide plenty and the experience is one of a kind!

Ball State has a beautiful campus. Most of the teachers are interested in the students. Many resources are available to students if students learn of their existence.

    Tips for prospective students

Explore every building on campus if you can. Talk to anyone who will talk to you. Learn about every resource on campus because there are many. Talk to others in your program to learn about the classes you will take - previous students are a wealth of information!

    Academic Rigor

Some classes are a nightmare and others are pieces of cake.

    Food and Dining

There are a lot of options on campus but some can be very expensive!

    Bang for the buck

Every semester I've attended, I've had at least one horrible instructor who obviously was not there for the students. Steer clear of these instructors if possible and it will be a great experience!

Great for these types of students

    Self-motivated

    Campus Safety

Campus seems very safe but there have been incidents on campus like all colleges and universities experience. There are emergency stations located in several areas around campus. Common sense safety precautions are suggested but campus is relatively safe. BSU has a great communication system that students are urged to take advantage of so administrators can be in contact with students instantly if there are places to avoid.

It's a beautiful campus with a some really great professors. There isn't much to do on campus, but you can find your own fun. Overall a good place to study.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure that there are organizations you'd like to participate in here or other activities like Greek Life before you attend. You'll have a lot of free time otherwise.

    Academic Rigor

During my freshman year I had quite a few graduate assistants for my classes instead of actual professors. The general classes really aren't that difficult.

    Dorm Life

There are a variety of dorms to live in which are pretty nice and hotel-esque. However, if you're a freshman there's a VERY good chance you'll end up in Lafallote, which is basically the worst. So consider that.

    Food and Dining

Food and Dining are alright. We have Chickfila, Taco Bell, Quiznos, and Starbucks. However, a lot of people have a problem with the current Meal Plan system which you may want to look up. Also, try as hard as you can not to eat at Lafallote. Stay away!

    What to do for fun

There are some really great student run organizations, for instance WCRD the student run radio station. It all depends on your interests. Outside of school related activities their isn't much to do. Muncie, IN is pretty run down.

Great for these types of students

Anyone interested in TCOMM, Journalism, Nursing, or Education should definitely check this school out.

    Clubs and Activities

WCRD! Student run radio! Check it out.

    Tips for prospective students

Get your classes in buildings close together if possible.
Avoid the Atrium during lunch unless you like chaos, it is very busy at lunchtime.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that BSU is pretty rigorous with their academics. There is a list of UCC(University Core Curriculum) that all students must take and a writing comp test is needed for graduation. There are tutors available for many classes and all are provided for free to students. Most professors are willing to work with students in helping them achieve academic success. The nice thing about BSU is that it is always easy to check on your academic status.

    Dorm Life

Freshman must either live with their parents or live in a dorm for the first year of college. I chose to live with my parents. I have heard that dorm life isn't terrible but I have no experience in this area.

    Food and Dining

Lots of places and food options to choose from especially in the different dining halls. Noyer has some awesome omelets. The Atrium has a Chik-fil-a and a nice asian grill. Bookmark Cafe is in the library for anyone who has to spend more time at Bracken

    What to do for fun

Late Night - Movies and pizza.
    Sports - Students are free
Coffee Shop - local artist hang out and really good coffee
    The Village - restaurants

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Frog Baby - It is said that if you rub the nose of this guy you will have good luck.
Benny - If you and your gf/bf kiss under her and her wings flutter then its true love.
Gum tree - A tree that is almost completely covered in gum

Great for these types of students

Great for students who don't mind the occasional large lecture but most classes are small in size. One-on-one professor and student time available.

    Campus Safety

Emergency phones are located throughout campus if needed. Well lit campus.

Ball State University is fitting for myself because of the campus size, structure, and courses. Ball State has several activities for students to participate in, including but not limited to organizations, churches, courses, recreation, and relaxation areas. The library and the dining halls are very up to date places and I enjoy going to these daily.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be nervous if you think you will forever be lost. The campus is actually smaller than it first seems. There are several things to do on campus so stick around on some weekends and make some new friends!

    Academic Rigor

My academic rigor is keeping up with all the readings that must be done in college life. Although I am a very organized person, it is easy to forget to read everything that needs to be read to help understand material.

    Dorm Life

I enjoy living in the dorm. Although my freshman year I lived in a very old dorm, it was not too bad. Being a sophomore, I live in a more up to date and modern dorm. I enjoy being able to attend events at the dorm. Advantages will continue to come as you move up in your dorm life such as more private bathrooms and air conditioning.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at Ball State University is actually quite impressive. I do not often become tired of campus food as you might imagine one would. There are 11 dining locations on campus from Chic-fil-A, Quiznos, and Taco Bell to Starbucks and buffets.

    What to do for fun

There are several things to do for fun at Ball State. For example, every Friday night a free, new film is shown to students for free. On Saturday night, there is always a safe on campus party called Late Nite. This is also free and students can play games, eat food, and enjoy making things and receiving prizes. There are several organizations to be involved in. I am part of the Future Veterinarians Society, in which we travel to zoos, shelters, and so on to help out and explore. Also, there are several religious affiliations to become a part of.

    Bang for the buck

There are several things to do on campus for free. If you participate in these activities such as the beautiful new recreation center, Late Nite, free movies, free speakers and so on, you are getting your bang for your buck.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is a Frog Baby on campus which is a statue that sits in the middle of a fountain. People go and dress up frog baby for different occasions, even though they must go through the fountain to get there. Also, students make wishes here.

    Clubs and Activities

There are plenty of clubs and activities. There is a club for almost anything you can think of because any student can come up with an idea and turn it into a club with a little help.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are often near by. The campus is well lit and has safety boxes everywhere that can be pressed to alert police if someone is in trouble.

greek life at ball state university is being purposely diminished for seemingly no reason. compared to the likes of purdue and iu, it is nothing. but it is still probably the way to go.

the faculty at ball state work hard to make sure every student achieves academic success. ball state is undergoing major changes every year to make the campus better every year. ball state is an exciting and inviting place to live.

    Tips for prospective students

do not go home every weekend. go to sporting events and other free activities. join clubs and organizations on campus.

    Academic Rigor

academically it depends on your major and skill level, just work hard and you will do great.

    Dorm Life

even if you live in an older dorm, the halls are inviting and exciting to live in.

    Food and Dining

the food is great! it is also very accommodating to food allergies or preferences.

    What to do for fun

i joined many clubs and organizations. i also spend time with people in my dorm playing games, watching movies, going to the rec center, or just walking around campus.

    Bang for the buck

sometimes i wonder where all my money goes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

it is said if you kiss your true love in front of beneficence her wings will flap. also, people used to rub frog baby's nose for good luck but it got rubbed off. the naked lady statue in the lobby is a great meeting place! the bell tower is the largest bell tower in the state, which is why it does not have a clock.

Great for these types of students

ball state is great for students who do not want to go to a huge school, but do not want to go to a school where you could easily meet most of the campus. also for students who want to be able to get around easily and not worry about getting lost.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many different clubs and activities you can join. if there is a club you want that ball state does not have, you only need two people to start a new organization!

    Greek Life

greek life here is relatively small, but is steadily growing each and every year. the school does not completely support greek life but we are working on bridging the gap.

    Campus Safety

i think campus safety could increase. there are many help/emergency call towers, charlie's charter that will pick you up at night, and buses during the day. i would like if the notification system could be a little faster. however when there was a bomb threat, we were kept in the loop and updated every step of the way.

ball state university is a medium-sized public university located in muncie, indiana. muncie is a terribly boring college city that does a poor job of providing entertainment for its university population. however, ball state itself is a good school.

    Tips for prospective students

live on campus your first year. make friends, make plans, and get involved quickly! otherwise ball state and muncie are terribly boring.

    Academic Rigor

depending on your major, ball state can be extremely easy or extremely difficult. architecture and art majors spend countless hours in studio working on projects, but i also have friends who don't spend any time on homework. as you get further in your education you'll undoubtedly have more coursework, but it is definitely not as difficult here and students care a fair amount less than at other schools i've visited.

    Dorm Life

when i lived on campus there were several dorm programs throughout the year. not all of them were interesting, but they were there. underclassmen dorms are also really old and kinda shady, but i benefitted a lot from living in the dorms and made some good friends there. i tell incoming freshmen to live at least their first year on campus.

    Food and Dining

on the whole, ball state has a lot of dining options and many of them are good. chains on-campus include chick-fil-a, taco bell, starbucks, sbarro, quiznos, and jamba juice. (you can use your meal plan or regular money.) as with all campus food, it gets old after you've eaten it for a while.

    What to do for fun

there is very little to do for fun in muncie unless you really like chain restaurants or going to the movies. most people leave for the weekend to go to other schools.

    Bang for the buck

a very affordable state school where you can get a solid degree in a lot of fields.

Great for these types of students

a student who wants the education of a public school without the huge size

    Clubs and Activities

ball state does have a fair amount of organization if you want to get involved.

    Greek Life

greek life does exist, but it is definitely optional. it is not a huge part of campus life, but it is also not looked down upon.

    Campus Safety

very little incidence of crime. i feel really safe on campus.

ball state might be considered a throwaway university by some, but that's truly not the case. bsu has a wide variety of choices for any student, along will several renowned colleges. to many, ball state is their home away from home, and i agree.

    Tips for prospective students

research, research, research. ball state has great opportunities available, but they won't just throw themselves at you. if you utilize your time, your experience at bsu will be a great one.

    Academic Rigor

i am rating this a three because in my short experience here, the teachers have been fair. bsu offers an honors program if you are looking for a challenging curriculum. classes are what you make of them. if you go to class, you'll at least get a passing grade. if you skip, you won't.

    Dorm Life

although i live in lafollette, which is the butt of many jokes, i've had a pretty good experience. i'm close to several academic buildings, which is very convenient. it can sometimes be loud outside, but most of the other dorms are in secluded areas. the staff is helpful and nice. i haven't had any real problems, minus the clanking heaters.

    Food and Dining

it gets old. there are 11 dining locations, including several chain stores. there aren't many healthy options, and the meal plan is annoying. the hours on the weekend aren't very great. however, i think bsu has more choices than other colleges i've seen, so i'm grateful for that. this would be three stars if the meal plan wasn't so restricting.

    What to do for fun

there's tons of stuff, you just have to find it! late nite and friday night filmworks are just two fun and safe things i can think of. to be frank, muncie isn't very exciting, but you could still go roam around the mall. just check the calender reguarly and you'll find events to go to.

    Bang for the buck

in my opinion, tuition is pricey for what's been going on this year. some part of bsu has been under construction all year. this has caused problems with students, whether it involves disturbing their sleep or simply being in the way. class-wise, i'd say it's worth it. some teachers are lazy, but the great teachers are worth it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

frog baby sits behind bracken. during winter, students put clothes on her to keep her room. students used to rub her nose for good luck, but they rubbed it off!

rumor has it that if you sit under beneficence (aka benny) and kiss your boyfriend or girlfriend, her wings will flap if it's true love.

we also have a gum tree, which students stick gum on. it's kind of gross.

Great for these types of students

people who are undecided, journalism students, education students, and anyone looking for a smaller campus.

    Clubs and Activities

bsu offers tons upon tons of clubs. heck, you can make one anytime you want! there's endless opportunities to check them out, and one of them always seems to be giving out free stuff.

    Greek Life

i'm not in a sorority, but i've only heard good things from my friends that are. they seem to be pretty active around campus.

    Campus Safety

the bsu emergency system is kind of faulty. the campus police do a good job, though.

a university with broad academic services that offers a unique, quality experience for every major. although it was once viewed as a teachers college, it has now developed a reputable name for many other programs. ball state is a quality university full of diversity and character.

    Tips for prospective students

don't write it off! paying a visit to ball state could prove to be eye opening and save you a lot of cash. while it is often overshadowed by purdue and indiana university, ball state has programs that rival these schools with the classic college atmosphere. there are programs and organizations for all majors, and they are easy to get involved in.

    Academic Rigor

this really depends on what major you choose. i've seen some students skate through their classes with ease, while others log countless hours in the library and are seldom ever seen without books under their noses. it used to be known as a party school, but president jo ann gora has done a lot to boost the academic status of ball state.

    Dorm Life

the freshman dorms are far from pristine shape, but the friends you'll meet and experiences you'll share are second to none. freshman may sign a premium plan to get priority room selection in their second year, but most students find that second year dorm room scenarios involve a nicer room with less interaction with neighbors.

    Food and Dining

selections are almost endless when it comes to meal time. a student has a set amount of money to spend per meal (depending on the meal contract they sign) and there is plenty of selection. from names like quiznos and taco bell, to the dining halls of woodworth, the atrium, and noyer, students can indulge in a wide variety of food. the only downside is that the hours of the locations are a little bit odd, especially on the weekends.

    What to do for fun

just like on every college campus, everybody lives for the weekends. students always blow off steam on the weekends by going to parties, but there are other options during the week. the rec center is always busy with students taking advantage of its facilities. the rock wall, indoor turf field, basketball courts, and huge weight room are just a few of the places students like to hang out. in addition, there are many organizations that students can get involved in. greek life, club sports, and major related activities are the most popular.

    Bang for the buck

ball state's journalism/telecommunications program, teacher's college, nursing program, and college of architecture and planning are only a few of the great programs offered at the university. the programs here rival those at neighboring colleges.

    Dorm Life

i've loved living in the dorms. it's very convenient and i'm majoring in psychology so my dorm is the building is a living learning community for psychology and criminal justice majors.

small enough that you can make friends, but large enough that you won't be seeing the same exact people every day. people in the university really want to help you. professors and staff are all encouraging and fun to be around.

    Tips for prospective students

don't freak out about some of the dorms not being air-conditioned; it's not that bad. don't take more than 16 hours your first semester unless you're absolutely positive you can handle not having a social life.

    Academic Rigor

i've had some professors that have really challenged me, but i've also had some who i felt were just doing their jobs. the required classes for majors, from what i've encountered, are all really relevant to the degrees that people are seeking. they also provide many clubs, extra-credit opportunities, and guest speakers to ensure you have the tools you need to get a job when you graduate.

    Dorm Life

like i mentioned before, some of the dorms don't have air-conditioning. the only problem with that was at night, when it was still in the upper-70s and it was hard to sleep. learning to live with 40-plus other people sharing one washing machine and dryer, and a handful of showers and toilets was also quite a challenge. other than that, i don't have any complaints. most of the ras are incredibly helpful and nice, and if you give them a chance, so are a lot of the people who live in your hall.

    Food and Dining

i don't mean to be a downer, but this is cafeteria food. granted, some of it is really good. there is a chic-fil-a, a boar's head deli, a quiznos and a sbarro pizza place, which are all really great for eating at. there are tons of options and different food styles, but none of it can really compare to a home-cooked meal, in my opinion.

ball state is great for anyone. it's good if you are coming from a small town or rural area and are looking for something bigger but aren't quite ready to go to a huge city yet. it's a nice in between place.

    Clubs and Activities

there are 150+ clubs available to any and everyone here on campus. things that range from major-related clubs all the way to clubs like humans vs. zombies. there is something here for everyone.

    Greek Life

there aren't very many house options here on campus for people looking to join the greek system. there are about 12 houses for each fraternity and sororities. however the system has steadily been growing each year.

    Campus Safety

campus safety here is really great. if something bad is happening around our campus, the school is quick to notify us via email or text if you sign up for it. also we have emergency blue light systems all over campus, you can't go anywhere without seeing at least one. these lights have an emergency button on it that when pressed campus pd is immediately called to where you have pressed that alert system. however none of them have ever needed to be used, but its nice knowing that they are there.

Ball State is a forerunner in many of their graduate programs and offer vast information keeping up with the latest in the field. You see great names such as Dr. McIntosh, who heads up the Special Education program, a pioneer in Autism and Applied Behavior Analysis. Tuition is a great steal for the receipt of such a fantastic education.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should be prepared to work hard from the minute the application is placed. There is no hand holding at this University and teaches students to question what needs to be done and be proactive. At times the staff can be a bit brash and unhelpful, but it only propelled me to work harder to gain access to the information I needed. I am a distance education student so it was a bit more arduous for me to gain information.

    Academic Rigor

The academics are amazing. You will not leave a class feel spunky, you will leave feeling tired because you've had to think about what was being taught. The course work is definitely one of the most rigorous. The professors are all very experienced in the fields that they teach and can offer a gamete of information.

    Dorm Life

I can't offer advice in reference to dorm life as I live out of state. The website however does offer some great information.

    Food and Dining

I again can't offer advice on the food and dining as I live out of state.

    What to do for fun

Seeing how Ball State is in Indiana, there is inevitably much to do, however, I'm sure a hot spot is the Colt's field.

    Bang for the buck

Money well spent on a education that is one of the best. I truly believe that you get what you pay for. You pay more tuition but you have some of the finest instructors teaching you.

Great for these types of students

Career-minded, heads strong individuals who don't take no for an answer. Students who persevere and constantly push forward.

Ball State is a pretty good campus. It's kind of far from home, but people here are really nice and outgoing. I would recommend this campus, because it's beautiful.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit! The tours helped make my decision.

    Academic Rigor

They have many choices of classes and majors and you can change whenever you'd like.

    Dorm Life

The whole floor shares two bathrooms. So you can imagine how that can get, but the girls are really friendly. Your hall votes to make decisions, so it's nice that you can be involved.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of choices of food. There isn't anything here I don't like. They do have Taco Bell and Chick-Fil-A on campus. It's really nice.

    What to do for fun

They have an awesome rec center that has anything you can imagine. A rock wall, a pool, basketball courts, volleyball courts, anything and everything. They also have plenty of clubs you can join and the have intramural sports you can join.

    Campus Safety

The campus has their own campus police who keeps you safe. Also, they have panic buttons all over the campus and if you push one someone will be there in a minute or less. The campus is really safe.

When I was in high school, I was told that, when searching for a college, you would know it when you found the right fit for you, and it was true. A welcoming atmosphere was most important to me in considering a school, and I just felt I belonged when I came for my first visit to Ball State. I feel Ball State is respectable, has an enthusiasm for redefined education, and really cares about its students.

    Tips for prospective students

Join clubs and participate in campus activities. Sure everyone says that, but you really feel like you've taken full advantage of your education and your college years when you explore the world outside of your major. And the campus activities are great!

    Academic Rigor

I know it's not Ivy league, but I feel like Ball State is an education to be proud of.

    Dorm Life

I live in the honors dorms on campus, which are small, but kept clean and comfortable. I love the convenience of living on campus.

    Food and Dining

So much variety and a lot of it is great. It's also pretty easy to make healthy choices. The only things I think that would improve dining would be to keep more places open on the weekends, and to have more grocery-type items, like bread available.

    What to do for fun

I'm usually pretty busy with school work, but I think it's awesome that Ball State offers opportunities such as live performances at Emens auditorium, Friday Night Filmworks, and Late Nite (Saturday night activities with free food, games, and entertainment). The entertainment is also quality. I also REALLY enjoy the sophisticated recreation center, and this semester I've purchased a pass to take instructional fitness classes such as Zumba.

    Bang for the buck

I don't feel cheated at all, but sometimes I feel over charged by the architecture department (CRC prices, professional fees), and the Ball State Barnes & Nobles is a little over-priced.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Frog baby: fountain and common gathering near Bracken Library

Great for these types of students

Architecture students, nursing students, teaching students, and much more. I also think it's pretty cool Ball State offers a glass-blowing major. Slightly random, but interesting.

    Clubs and Activities

There are almost an overwhelming number of clubs available to students. I haven't had much free time to participate in them, but I enjoyed being on the University Program Board last semester. I helped plan a few campus events such as the fall festival.

    Greek Life

I heard it's great, but I don't think it's too crazy. A good balance, and Ball State does well with preventing hazing.

    Campus Safety

I feel extremely safe on campus. Many buildings require ID swipe access, and there are emergency stations all over campus. There are plenty of additional measures Ball State takes for student safety such as offering a night-time shuttle around campus.

Ball State has a wonderful campus. It has fantastic food courts and beautiful buildings. There is always something going on to get involved in. The great thing about BSU is their programs that allow for free tickets to events. For example, a few months ago the actual broadway play Beauty and the Beast performed on our stage. It was absolutely free to students. Ball State also often gives out free shirts and things to students.

    Bang for the buck

Most of the dorm buildings are really nice with central air conditioning. So what you pay for dorms isn't too bad considering what you get compared to other schools. However, I disagree with the meal plans. I wish BSU wouldn't take the money you don't spend at a single meal time. I feel that that is completely wrong and very frustrating.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest getting involved on campus. It's great fun to go to the activities BSU provides.

However, in my degree program, unfortunately, the teaching style seems to be if we allow them to use the awesome facility, they will learn on their own how to use it. Being at Ball State is more than amazing. During the first few months there are so many opportunities to get involved. There are so many clubs and organizations, not to mention the activities in your dorm. On top of this there are things to do on weekend nights so you don't have to go out and party by illegal items, but instead having a blast with your friends by watching new movies, and a program call Late Night where there is free food, bowling, games, and much more! (:

    Bang for the buck

Although Ball State is expensive, so is every other college around here. Every dollar you put into the school is well worth it. With how many free activities they have specifically for students, it is well worth the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

My biggest tip for future students is to be yourself. No matter where you go you always want to be yourself and be social. The more people you know, the better off you will be. Also, be sure to bring some winter clothes. It gets cold here quick! (:

There is so much to learn here at Ball State. With over 180 majors to choose from the professors are willing to share all of their knowledge and wisdom with the students. With almost 100% participation from professors whenever I need them, I have never left a class confused, not aware of the professor's purpose, and definitely not oblivious to the learned information. If your professor can't help, someone can. Other classmates, the writing center, the learning center. There's always someone kind willing to help! It's amazing, I'm learning inside and outside of the classroom.

There's a ton to do! Though the main purpose of college is to learn the University also offers so many fun things to do, while sometimes incorporating knowledgeable things, (such as an annual event well-o-ween.) The residence halls are great and no matter which hall you stay in there's a great community to keep you company and entertain you if you seem to get bored. On the weekends if you don't want to leave you have Friday Night Filmworks and Latenight which are two great events where you can meet new students, hang with your friends, and have a great time!

    Bang for the buck

Ball State University has so much to offer and if you obtain all of the information that you can while you are here, a great future in your chosen career can be inevitable. Therefore, it makes sense to cost the amount that it does. It can be feasible, but is it worth it, definitely. The great thing about it is there are great websites like Cappex that offer opportunities for scholarships and grants so take advantage of them! The costs that you are covering is not just for a short education, but for an education of a lifetime. Opportunities that you would generally have to pay for (i.e. gym memberships, delicious meals, on campus events:games, movies, and plays, etc.), are included. You'll enjoy every bit of it and see that your investment was put in a great place!

    Tips for prospective students

Beautiful campus, great food, kind and giving people, amazing education, and lifetime advantages for YOU! What more can you ask for at a college? Ball State has so much to offer. Knowledge and memories that you will be able to hold on to for a lifetime! After being here for a little over a year if I had to choose a University all over again, I would still choose Ball State!

Ball State is constantly adding new majors, classes, and opportunites for students to explore. With these tools I am able to capitalize on my learning experience.

Ball State is a well-suited university, not too big, not too small, just right! There is always something to do at Ball State! One example includes Late Nite, aka The Best Party on Campus. Late Nite is hosted by Ball State Students every Saturday Night as an alternative to the partying/drinking collegiate lifestyle. It includes activites such as caricatures, movies, hypnotists, comedians, and free food! It is a great place to meet new people and have fun without getting into trouble!!

    Bang for the buck

College is expensive. But Ball State does a great job with providing free tutors, admission to events, etc to help make handing over thousands of dollars a little easier. Tuition is one of the least expensive in comparison to other Indiana colleges and universities. The food is delicious and the dorms are constantly being renovated and are kept clean.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Take advatage of extra help provided for academic success.
Use office hours to ask professors questions on topics you didn't understand in class or to just get to know your instructor!
Make an appointment at the Learning Center for specific classes and work with a tutor on material you may not understand!
    Attend study sessions!!!
The best part is that all of these options are FREE!!
    2. Meet people and be socialable in your classes!
You never know when you may miss a class and need to borrow someone's notes!
    3. Get plenty of sleep
    4. Study in Bracken Library

The dining service is excellent, the dorms are very nice, the library has plenty of computers for students as well as other technologies you can rent out, and the gym was just rebuilt and is quite fancy. It does not lack much. More importantly, BSU is a nice place. In general, the people here are kind and caring all around.

    Bang for the buck

It can be expensive. Thankfully, BSU offers a lot of scholarships to the majority of its students. There are many opportunities for you to be able to work something out.

    Tips for prospective students

Professors and staff know what they're talking about. There are a ton of different resources available to students, including tutoring, different advising offices, and campus jobs. Classes are generally interesting and there are a variety of different majors offered - so it's a good pick for undecided students. Living-learning communities (living in a hall with other students in your major) are another good resource for students who know what they want to study.

    Am enjoying being here

Ball State offers plenty of activities and clubs. The dorms are generally above average as far as most universities - and they offer freshmen a great way to socialize and make friends. Ball State is also good for students who are overwhelmed by the idea of a huge school, but don't want something too small, either.

    Bang for the buck

BSU is one of the cheapest Indiana universities as far as in-state tuition goes. I'm not sure about out-of-state costs, but with a decent GPA or test scores, you're likely to earn a scholarship for half the tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get out of your comfort zone or to ask questions. For academic questions, go to your advisor -- that's what they're there for. And take advantage of the Learning Center.

Great for these types of students

The one thing I truly love about classes at Ball State, is that the environment is small and personal. Classes are small, and you are remembered by name, not your student I.D. number. As a person who grew up in the heart of Purdue University, I have had many friends who have attended Purdue that say they never learn anything, and the teachers are not interested in teaching. Ball state is an entirely different story. Teachers not only teach you class skills, but life skills.

    Am enjoying being here

Although most teenagers would never be caught dead saying it, I love it at Ball State. The campus is very student friendly, having many attractions that give you a social life. Anything you need is within walking distance, and there is always something to do to pass time, including hosting many Broadway touring shows such as The Color Purple and Legally Blonde.

    Bang for the buck

If you know where to shop, then you will know how to save money. The best bookstore to visit in the T.I.S in the village. There you will find anything and everything that you will need, and they are always stocked.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking into a certain department or program, or even if you are just going to go, you will always find somewhere that you fit in. If you arrive with no friends, you will leave with life long ones. College is the place to change your major a thousand times and learn from your mistakes. Most colleges don't have a thousand majors, but at Ball State, I'm sure you'll find something.

Great for these types of students

As a member of the Department of Theatre and Dance, I will have to put in my shameless plug and say that it is one of the best programs in the state. Not only do we have many professors that still perform (we have an acting guru who not only appeared in episodes of Law and Order, but she is also a regular musical performer) but we also happen to be blessed with calling Sutton Foster, two time Tony Award winner, a professor. Ball state is also really good if you are interested in Architecture or Nursing. Even if you just want to go somewhere to be free, Ball State has many things to offer anyone looking to attend a great environment and a great learning-living community.
