    Am learning a lot

This School excels in every program that they provide. Barry makes sure that you learn everything that you need to learn that will help you in future classes and in your career. Teachers are always there to help you and they allow questions at anytime. I am a Photography major and the teachers in this field help and give constructive criticism. As with all majors the faculty is very helpful.

    Am enjoying being here

Barry is a school where there are school sponsored events. There are plenty of dances and the student activities Departments take you on trips everywhere and most of them are free. This school is in a very isolated area so you have to make your fun.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely get your moneys worth when it comes to the education and equipment provided for your major. You are able to rent equipment and the bonus is this is one of the few schools where you do not have to pay for laundry! That is always a plus.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your research for every school.
Read the student handbooks so you can learn everything that the schools offer (i.e clubs and organizations)
Make sure you go for a visit and do not just go by what they tell you ask other students.
Register early so you can get the classes you want
Determine if you are willing to sacrifice some fun for a good eduction

Great for these types of students

    Am learning a lot

The education is okay, it could be better. It feels somewhat like high school, but the teachers truly care about their students. There are about 20 students in each class. The lectures are quite interesting. There are only few projects and essays.

    Am enjoying being here

It's very fun living on campus. There is a beautiful pool by Webber Hall. The dorms are decent and there is heavy security, so you are safe. The whole school is beautiful, it's like paradise. There is a beautiful catholic church near the entrance of the school. You meet great people from all over. School is near the beaches and Aventura Mall. Great clubs are nearby.

    Bang for the buck

The school is pretty expensive yet the food in the cafeteria could be much better, by having more variety and being cooked more better. It would be cool too if the cafeteria could stay open longer during serving hours and have more late night dining. The dorms could be more newer and larger. And the school store could sell things more cheaper.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to have a lot of fun because the school has a lot of extracurricular activities to do, whether it be intramural sports, modeling, modern dancing, or trying out for the step team. Also go to class everyday, do your work on time, and essays ahead of time so you won't really have to worry about finals, and to party.

Great for these types of students

For students wanting to be in the medical field, broadcasting field, arts, or business field.
For students that like to network, and meet people from all over.
For students that want to be part of a community, who really want to belong.
For students that really like extracurricular activities, like those in the entertainment field.
For students that like to work hard.
For students that like to have fun.
For students who want to be great.
For students who want their dreams to become a reality.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are going for sports a great place to get noticed. You will have a wonderful time on campus, it is so nice there.

Great for these types of students

The class sizes are small and the professors are nice and have open office hours. You really can get all the help you need, especially in the psychology department. And the professors will actually know your name and you can go straight to them not an assistant. They really want you to receive all the benefits of enrollment

    Am enjoying being here

Barry is so diverse and small. You will meet people from all over the world. It's a saying here you either have an accent or you're trying to understand one.

    Bang for the buck

Barry is super expensive and lacks in areas such as maintenance of housing facilities and poor internet service. They also should try and gain more food vendors because there isn't much selection. Also Greek life definitely needs to improve, there is only 1 Divine9 Greek Organization.

    Tips for prospective students

Study Study Study!!! Don't be afraid to ask for help! And get to know your peers in your major, you all will need each other to form study groups and exceed.

Great for these types of students

Students who want a small community that cares, limited distractions, and plan to succeed in life.

    Am learning a lot

Not learning nearly as much as I should be. I got a 630 on my math SAT and took Calculus my senior year and now Barry is making me take a math class that I receive no credit for, this is a remedial math course that I am unable to test out of. As for other classes, I'm doing next to nothing for and still getting A's

    Am enjoying being here

I strongly dislike being at Barry. The dorms are terrible, the food is worse, and academic building hours are inconvenient. Teachers are nice for the most part but most are foreign and difficult to comprehend. Staff in Student Union building are unhelpful and clearly dislike their jobs. Barry uses a the slogan Barry Cares which I find difficult to believe seeing that the food is a step below prison quality, RA's are only there to get you in trouble and if you have a complaint about something your just yelled at by staff meant to help you and they just tell you to go complain elsewhere. Overall the worst decision I've ever made was to attend the half assed second rate school.

    Bang for the buck

Definitely not worth my forty thousand a year to be in this place.

    Tips for prospective students

As a side note if your someone who enjoys extracurricular activities such as drinking (water of course) or smoking non tobacco products, definitely do not come to Barry. They're way too overbearing when it comes to drinking and smoking, drinking offenses are treated like your an alcoholic no matter what your caught with, you will have to take a online alcoholics class and pay the school a 50 dollar fine.. Smoking results in immediate removal from housing. They dont care at all where your from, or if you have a place to stay. My friend was caught smoking and they made him pack up and put him on the street less than an hour later. Nowhere to stay and no way to get to an airport so he could get to his hometown in NY.

I am a double major in Criminology and Biomedical Forensic Photography Major, every time I attend class I learn something new. The teacher actually knows who you are and what work you have done (or not done) in their class. You learn that criticism is not to hurt you, but to make you into the best student that you can be and succeed through your work.

    Am enjoying being here

Barry University is a very diverse place, you will meet people from all over the world and will be able to share your culture with others. Barry also has many student organizations where one can meet the people that will always be there for you.

    Bang for the buck

Barry is a private Catholic University and because of this both FL residents and outside residents get charged the same amount for tuition. The good thing is that Barry does accept any outside scholarships and based on your FAFSA they assist you with scholarships and loans.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Stay on top of your financial aid (even if it means to go to the Business and Financial Aid office once a month)
    2. Make sure that you know deadlines for payments and the changes made to your account
    3. Park in areas that you can park, otherwise your car will be towed and you will get a ticket.
    4. Join an organization or more, and be involved.
    5. Most resident Halls are not that bad, just remember its an old university but in Fall 2012, there will be a new resident hall & if you can apply to live in the houses around campus.
    6. If you are not Catholic, Barry doesn't mind they will accept anyway.
    7. Focus on your studies, the better that you do the more that will shine.
    8. Moonlight Madness is one of the most sporting events that the school hosts.

Great for these types of students

    For students who:
    like to be involved
like for their teachers to know who they are
    like diversity
enjoy being in a city full of life

The Quality of teachers is great, their teaching style however is not so much. Be sure you can teach yourself everything, or get tutors for every class. MUCH NEEDED. Also, be prepared to get thrown a lot of work towards the end of the year, they are trying to cram everything in the last second.

    Am enjoying being here

I can imagine being a commuter would make this school a FIVE star, however living accommodations are terrible, and there is way too much drama with people on campus. Most people are stuck up, however you can always find a good group of people to associate with. The area the school is in is disgusting. Placed on the line of the ghetto and the nice area you try and go for a walk outside of campus and you will want to run back to your room without looking back.

    Bang for the buck

    WAY overpriced school.
Housing is stupid expensive, go get an apartment, it wont be that much more and you will be way more satisfied.

    Tips for prospective students

Be sure you are ready for this school, its not a typical University, NO FOOTBALL TEAM, NO SCHOOL SPIRIT, and most sports teams are bad. Food on campus will make you sick till you get used to it and the smiles you see at orientation from everyone will soon fade away within the first week of school.

    Make Barry a last resort.

Also, be weary of the University sucking you in. Many associates tell me they cant transfer because only 1/4 of their credits can transfer. BE CAREFUL!

From personal experience, Barry University is an extremely small community, which makes it easily accessible to all of its offices, events, administrators, etc. The small and tranquil atmosphere of the university gives off a stress-free vibe to receive an education. In many cases, this may be very important because one humongous reason for the large drop out rate of freshmen in college is due to, the all stressful, and overwhelming atmosphere of the institution they attend. Many, if not all the teachers take great advantage of the all famous Blackboard, (Barry's online grade book), which allows teachers and students to communicate with each other at ease, with no hassle whatsoever. All in all, I believe this institution is perfect for the student looking for a more mellow and stress-free environment to excel at.

Depends on the degree your pursing at Barry. They're very good with business classes and nursing but when it comes to computer science, they're not the best.

    Am enjoying being here

Not really a great environment, some of the staff are really rude and also the chefs also have a chip on their shoulders. Living on campus is a joke and would highly recommend not living on campus.

    Bang for the buck

No, to much money for nothing. Especially if you want to live on campus, their dorms are horrible and dirty. Plus they keep changing the amount of their fees and making them higher.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply Elsewhere, this isn't the greatest college.

Great for these types of students

    Apply at :
    University of Miami
    FIU
    Or if all is lost

Save your money time and dedication, Barry in my opinion is a C average college. I'm already $3,000 in debt and cannot register for classes.

Even though Barry University is a private Catholic institution, the school welcomes and accepts people of different ethnicity, countries, and religions. The class sizes are small which allows students to have the opportunity to go directly to their teachers/professors for help. Most of the faculty and staff are welcoming and are very willing to aid students.

    Tips for prospective students

It is highly recommended to take advantage of having a one on one talk with the teachers/professors, within their office hours, if you have any questions or if you are having a difficult time with the class. Moreover, if you are more of a shy person, students can also email the professors in which they usually respond within a reasonable amount of time. There is also a math and writing lab where students can go to in order to get help. Student tutors for certain subjects are also available for additional help. As such, it would be advisable to take advantage of all the opportunities of being able to do well in a class.

    Academic Rigor

At first, the classes seem easy since they are lower level for both distribution classes and the classes your taking for your major. However, the upper level classes will be more difficult because they are usually more demanding and require more work as well as studying if you want to do well in the class rather than simply passing. This can be said for both upper level classes and the classes for your major.

    Dorm Life

I am a commuter so I do not have anything to say that the dorm life is like at Barry University.

    Food and Dining

The cafeteria is the most preferable to go to since it is basically a buffet and the prices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are very reasonable. There is a Starbucks and Einstein Bagel Bros. within the campus as well as a place for grab and go items but the prices tend to be more expensive. There are also three cafes that students can go to grab a bite to eat.

    What to do for fun

There are movies nights that are hosted as well as campus activities. There are also a shopping area that is close to the school where students can go to eat something other than school food and other stores.

Barry University is a fantastic school when speaking about it's academic programs, but it limits it's students a lot. They are constantly upgrading the physical aspects of the school, rather than fixing up the weak spots in their programs. They have much to improve.

    Tips for prospective students

Summer semester is very expensive, so if you want to get ahead or be able to take a normal amount of credits each semester, Barry is not for you. I am doing a double major and was very limited with my options in completing my credits in a reasonable time frame.

    Academic Rigor

Great academic program! Their biology program is fantastic, and all the professors are at the school to help you. Since there are only about four thousand students enrolled in the school, there is a nice close knit feel about the school. Better relationships with the professors help you better understand material and make it easier to make study groups.

    Dorm Life

I was a commuter student, so I never lived in the actual dorms, but from visiting my friends in their dorms to passing by, I was astonished at the quality of the dorms. D&D is the dirtiest dorm and the stuffiest, while Benecasa actually has great dorm rooms. Barry has the worst and the best dorm rooms.

    Food and Dining

There isn't much variety, but the few places they have, have good tasting food. While it may be expensive to eat there every day, there are some cheap places you could drive to.

    What to do for fun

If you have a car, you can go to the beach or the Miami hot spots. If you don't have a car, you can't really do much.

    Bang for the buck

Barry limits you in a lot of aspects. You can not CLEP classes or do summer semester in another school to save money. You can not register by yourself, because you need your advisor to sign off on everything. They don't announce the deadlines well, so you have to be on top of everything that is going on with the school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

It is a completely catholic school. There are fathers and some nuns. I would say that is the only unusual thing; but only if you are not use to nuns.

Great for these types of students

Great for any type of student!

    Clubs and Activities

They have plenty of clubs for all sorts of things! The clubs could be more connected with each other, but other than that they are great!

    Greek Life

I knew a lot of people in greek life, and it seemed a little disorganized. They did a bunch of events for greek, which was cool, but more towards the end of the semesters. They could be better.

    Campus Safety

There were several issues with robberies on campus, but lately the school has been improving their efforts to ensure the student's safety.

Admissions and Financial aid were very helpful. My academic advisor discouraged me. I felt as if I had made a mistake.

    Tips for prospective students

Whatever grades you earn, even withdrawls count against you. So if you are not sure of your major don't take classes unless you know you will get good grades.

    Academic Rigor

The classes that they offer are top of the line.

    Dorm Life

Small dorms if you are a freshman, but not bad if you have great roommates.

    Food and Dining

Great! You can eat in the cafeteria but there a lot of food places in the area too.

    What to do for fun

Miami is awesome so there is so much to do for entertainment, there is Bayside, Aventura Mall, Performing Arts center, and many more attractions.

    Bang for the buck

It's expensive because it's a private university, but the classes are smaller which is better for 1:1 time. I think it's worth the money.

Barry is diverse with students from different tax brackets, ethnicities, and counties. The weather and scenery is beautiful. Students and professors are down to earth and friendly, it's very easy to make friends.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply & pay your deposits early to get good housing (not in the hotel). Use your many resources available, ask for help when struggling, and make a good relationship with your professors. Professors here will spend lots of extra time and do everything they can to help you pass and succeed.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is what you make of it. Facilities are clean and maintence is fast if assistance is ever needed. Dorms, apartments, and villas are available to students.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the professors are very invested in their students, and will help you outside of class with anything you need. I am a member of the Honors Program, and the HP classes are very interesting, especially PHI 191. If you are willing to work hard and study you can learn a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

While some people hate how small the college is, I love it. I have found the staff to be very helpful, and the school hosts lots of events such as dances and trips off campus, many of which are free. The dorms are your typical college dorms. The food gets old after a while, but again, that's part of the college experience.

    Bang for the buck

I have found Barry University to be a wonderful investment. If you aren't serious about your career just yet, and are looking to party more, then you might not want to spend as much money here. Tuition is expensive, but Barry is very good about giving financial aid, especially if you do well in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

If at all possible, bring a car. Public transportation isn't very reliable, and the school is very secluded from many fun places. The closest Wal-Mart is about 4 miles away. Doable, but you might not want to carry your groceries that far. Also, GET INVOLVED. It is one of the best ways to meet new people and have something to do. Service is a big deal here, so many classes will require you to do community service in order to pass. Make sure you do it, and go to all mandatory events or you will get additional service hours. If you want a bigger school, this is not the place for you. It is a great school, but very quiet and small. Be aware that their is a mandatory attendance policy for classes. If you miss 6 hours or more, you fail the course. Not all professors follow this policy, but most do.

Great for these types of students

    -People who enjoy smaller groups.
-People who want a small class size where professors know them personally.
    -People who seek professional development.
-People who place high importance on service.
