Perhaps my favorite thing about Baylor is the opportunity I have had as an honor student to have the interdisciplinary major called University Scholars. If you have high enough SAT's and enough AP classes and a good application essay, you can be excused from most undergrad required classes such as required English and Science classes. This means even as a Freshman you can begin your major classes. It also makes it easier to spend a semester doing an internship or to have multiple concentrations instead of a single major.

That's not to mention that Baylor has small classes with involved teachers. I can honestly say that every teacher I have had so far has known my name and seems to genuinely care that we learn the information. The classes here are definitely challenging, but with helpful teachers, I have certainly learned a lot.

    Am enjoying being here

Baylor people are some of the nicest I have ever met. I visited several other private collages in Texas and nowhere else did I find as many helpful people as I did at Baylor. Students walk up and offer help if you look lost. One day when I tripped and fell in the Quad, I looked up expecting someone to laugh like they would have at my high school. Instead, I saw a girl extending her hand to help me up. It's just another world at Baylor.

There are also plenty of options for fun on campus such as festivals and concerts. Despite the atmosphere of a small private school (no matter where you are you seem to run into people you know), there are plenty of opportunities that make it rival even the largest of schools. And for a college town, Waco offers a good array of things to do from the Dr. Pepper Museum, to Waco Lake, Cameron Park Zoo, and the old Suspension bridge where Baylor students toss tortillas onto the rock pillars (it's more fun than it sounds!).

    Bang for the buck

Baylor has some of the best scholarships available. It was even voted one of the best value colleges in the nation by Fiske as well as other ranking lists. Personally, through a combination of merit, financial aid, and outside scholarships, I am paying for less than the cost of my room and board. If you want to find out what your merit aid will be, check out the scholarship calculator at www.baylor.edu -- Also, be aware that for qualifying students, Baylor will add more to that through Financial Aid and scholarships from alumni donors. I've even had the opportunity to have semesterly luncheons and dinners with my donors!
The only downside is that the only way to get an official full ride to Baylor is through being a National Merit Scholar. But, if you are one and you can keep a 3.5 GPA, then I would say Baylor is definitely a good bargain!

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantages of the opportunities that Baylor offers its new students, and make sure to visit the campus. Baylor is a beautiful campus. I would also recommend looking at some of the options for housing beyond the normal freshman digs. Engaged Learning Groups, honors dorms, and Brooks College all offer great accommodations. Personally, my freshman year, I lived in Brooks College, a new dorm with a dining hall that looks just like the great hall from Harry Potter. Trust me, the private bathrooms, brand-new building, and more make it worth the extra application essay!

Lastly, I want to let you know a few insider secrets about Baylor.
    1. When registering for classes, don't even bother with ratemyprofessors.com, go to bubooks.com. There, there are many, many more ratings and books for sale from students. It's a much better tool.

    2. Don't leave a visit to Baylor without checking out the coffee house on the corner of campus called Common Grounds and the cute-as-can-be craft store next door called Harts 'n Crafts. They are my favorite places!

    3. You might want to know though are that there are required religion courses, required chapel, visiting hours for opposite genders in all on-campus housing, and no greek houses allowed. Despite these downsides though, I still love Baylor!

Great for these types of students

National Merit Scholars, of course, due to the full ride scholarship. But also anyone who loves to learn, and who wants to be in a place with nice people who will lend a helping hand. Baylor is also most definitely a Christian school, but the atmosphere isn't completely smothering. It all depends on finding your niche. Once I found my friends and discovered the right classes, I have truly found my home at Baylor (at least for the next three years!).

The campus is beautiful! Waco is small, so if you like small, you might want to check it out. But it also happens to be extremely close to 4 major cities in Texas: Dallas, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition for 08-09 was about $32k, and it's much higher for 09-10.

    Tips for prospective students

Good if you are Religious, Small-Town-ish , or just looking for a good education.

Professors will challenge you to think outside of the box, and sometimes out of your comfort zone. This is a must when the goal of the University is to make a student a well-rounded individual.

    Am enjoying being here

If you jump into the activities, especially during the welcome week for Freshman and Transfers at the beginning of the year, it won't be hard to start making long lasting friendships and fast.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor University is very respective of its students and tries to hear them out most of the time. There still are a good amount of students at Baylor for a private University, but you will see that there is much individual attention especially from the Professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Look at all of your options for funding. Tuition is high at Baylor University, but the University is willing to do a lot to help you get the financial aid you need. The teachers and/or administration are very good at helping you (the student) out. Also don't be afraid to ask questions when you go to campus to take a tour, and please do take a tour. Baylor offers many tours around campus, including 3 Premieres a year which included many exciting things for Prospective Students. Also I would say you should also keep a little extra cash on hand besides the tuition. Sometimes you might need to go off campus for a coffee or food.

Great for these types of students

Students that like a rigorous academic community. Baylor University may be one of the easier private schools to get into, but don't let that fool you. If you are accepted Congratulations!!, but be prepared for a good amount of work ahead of you, including life decisions. I know I don't want to make them either, but life decisions come in the package of going to college so be prepared to make some. Also Baylor University is good for students that want to be well rounded. All students are required to take Religion classes, but the Professors never really try to push any one Religion on you. The required Religion and Chapel classes are not supposed to become a burden for the Freshman, but more of an experience to become a more well-rounded individual that will leave Baylor University with much more than they came with. So in all, Baylor University is a place for students you love to work hard, have fun, and make life long friendships that will definitely last outside of the walls of the University.

The professors here are really nice and will take the time to actually help you each step of the way, in both learning and planning for the future. In addition, the facilities on campus have many great places to study, as well as up to date equipment to aid in securing a beneficial environment for your studying needs.

    Am enjoying being here

Although Waco is not one of those big cities where you can find anything and everything, Baylor is a place where the ideals of being a family is strongly encouraged. The clubs and organization here are both plentiful and diverse, and is a great way to kind of sink in to the high school to college life transition. In addition, the college grounds here are plentiful in greenery and always kept clean, giving you the close to nature kind of feel as you walk around campus. All in all, I am satisfied in choosing Baylor as my first choice.

    Bang for the buck

Ugh... As for the price to attend Baylor, its a little on the pricey side. :(
Costing a whooping average of about $40,000 to attend for the first year, its a college most people would rather avoid. Being a private college and one of the top 100 undergraduate universities in the country [U.S. News], the cost could some what be understood. Although it is expensive, if you have a strong SAT and ACT score, you should get some monetary help from the college itself. Additionally, if you applied for the FAFSA (early as possible = more cash!), the impact of the price should lessen greatly.

    Tips for prospective students

Well first off, I would find a college that is suitable in environment and studying facilities, otherwise you'll be tempted to go party all the time. In addition, I would suggest searching for and joining a club or organization when you first arrive so as to make some new friends and help adapt to your new surroundings. Another advice is to ask people around to see which professors are better than others so that you get the most out of your education, as well as your grades. And finally, for those college first timers, I suggest watching and managing how you spend your time each day. Your gonna want to sidetrack several times and burn away your hours to, lets say, study for an exam? Just watch what you do and prep for anything to come.

Great for these types of students

I'm gonna keep this one short. This university is great for: Christians, future tennis pros, future basketball players, pre-med, pre-law, business majors, and religion majors.

We toured different classrooms when I visited and it was really great to see that the majority of them are small (more time to ask for help and get to know your teacher!). I also spoke with several different department leaders and it truly touched my heart that they were so passionate about everything Baylor has to offer. It was kind of like you feel them wanting to teach you - and not just academically, but life lessons too.

    Will enjoy being here

The small town of Waco is a little scary for people like me who are used to big-city life (Houston is the 4th largest City in the USA) however, Austin and Dallas are close enough and its only 3 and half hours to get home. The only other thing that kind of worries me is the no alcohol and strict dorm policies....don't get em wrong, I'm a good kid! But lets face it, we all want a LITTLE bit of the college experience. When it's all said and done, these are NOT reasons to not chose Baylor. Sic'em Bears!

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Baylor is pricey..but it's a PRIVATE university and that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Baylor cares about each student though and Financial Aid advisers are their to help figure out a solution. There is also FAFSA! After visiting campus and interviewing some of the leaders and students at Baylor I believe the education and experience one would gain is worth the money!

    Tips for prospective students

PREPARE for your SAT/ACT and take them as many times as you can until your scores are rockin because Baylor bases Non-need scholarships on your Academic Achievement.
GPA/ class rank is important but my admissions counselor informed me that Baylor is understanding that high schools are crazy competitive and that some schools don't rank.
Extra- Curricular seem to be very enthused at Baylor and while grades are Priority it is very important to be a well-rounded individual.

P.S. - over 85% of Baylor students are on financial aid and over 80% of them are White. Its also a Baptist School. But Guess What? No One Cares! Its a very accepting environment and everyone their is super nice so don't let the minority factor scare you!

Great for these types of students

Nice, Curious, Out-Going, Christian ( or Not!) , motivated to succeed, Any one who wants to explore their options and figure out their future with the help of awesome teachers/ friends/ and 2 lovable Bears!

I have met some of the most passionate people at Baylor University. The quality of the staff here is outstanding. It is one thing to sit through a history lecture year after year, but another to listen to a Baylor history lecture. Most of the professors are very sharp and excellent teachers. They often have great senses of humor! SI sessions prove excellent help opportunities. If there is a will to learn and make great grades, there is a way at Baylor. In high school I was a C student. At Baylor I am quickly becoming a straight A student.

    Am enjoying being here

The student life is involved. There is alot of school spirit. Some days it seems like the whole campus is gold and green! Many students attend sporting events, athletics are really supported here. Intramurals are really popular too. For the size of school it is Baylor still has every club imaginable. However it has a predominately conservative student body, you have to be okay with that. The campus is open minded though, you just have to find the right people for you as with any place.

    Bang for the buck

A bit pricy. I was a varsity athlete in high school and honestly put athletics above grades. As a result got into Baylor by the skin of my teeth. By my senior year if I don't take out multiple loans I won't make it through. I've considered transferring to a state school because the price is hitting home hard. Yes, there are many scholarships but they all go to people who are prime scholarship candidates who often have multiple scholarships....

    Tips for prospective students

Take AP's in high school. make at least above a 3.7 and above average SAT score and you can gamble as I did to get in honestly. To be a sure candidate and receive a nice scholarship you should be a student that makes A's and B's in AP classes. If you want to be a Bio major be sure to hit the ground running and take bio before chem!

Great for these types of students

Students who excelled in AP tests in high school and were leaders in some clubs. Ranked high in their class. Participated in science fair and made it to at least regionals. Varsity athletes.

Unless you totally fit into the status quo: White, upper-middle-class, ultraconservative, Christian, then you will have a little trouble finding your niche at first. People at Baylor tend to be VERY fake and many times, awkward. If you're here with friends from high school you'll probably want to stick with them. It's hard to have conversations with some these people because they're so closed-minded and often don't like to hear ideas contradictory to theirs.

    Tips for prospective students

Supposedly Baylor was ranked highly on some Best Value in Private Colleges list. If you're poor ($30,000 and less) chances are you'll only pay about $4,000+- a semester after Financial Aid gives you a bunch of money. If your parents earn about $60,000, then you only pay about 12,000+- a semester. It really depends on how much your parents make. Personally, I think that if you don't qualify for Financial Aid, Baylor is just TOO expensive.

Great for these types of students

    Ultra-conservative
    Upper-middle-class
    Christian

Every single teacher cares about their students. Each professor wants you to truly care about the subject they're teaching you. It's really inspiring to see how passionate a professor is in the classroom. It makes you pay so much more attention than a teacher who doesn't care.

Ever since I was in LINE CAMP (which you should totallllllly be a part of), I've enjoyed every single minute of Baylor. Yes, classes can be difficult but what classes aren't? You get amazing classes and if you do your part to be apart of the university it gives back! I've never been to a more welcoming and amazing place! I couldn't see myself ANYWHERE ELSE. It truly has been the best experience to be apart of Baylor University.

    Bang for the buck

Though the price seems overwhelming at first, once you enter and decide to go to Baylor they throw you scholarships to keep you in! As long as you put forth the effort Baylor rewards you for your hard work! And they are EXTRMEELY helpful in the financial aid area if you are struggling. For about a week I for sure thought I would drop out because of money but when I voiced my opinion to the Financial Aid office they helped me right away with payment plans!

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit! That's how I made my decision RIGHT AWAY! Keep your options open and if it feels right then you should BE HERE. There's no reason why you SHOULDNT come to Baylor!! :]

Great for these types of students

    Open-minded
Curious about religion (it opens your eyes but doesn't shove it down your throat)
    but really....ANY KIND OF STUDENT!
I know so many types of people that attend here. They have something for everyone here! It's not a typical private school, I promise you!

Baylor will keep you busy. You will be learning from the best and the brightest. These professors are not like your High School teachers. They will push you to think critically (even though the subject that you are learning about may not be in your field of study) and address classrooms with passion. As a student, I always feel engaged and challenged.

    Am enjoying being here

Waco is a rather shady town, and you can't go out at night alone. Even though it is a bit unnerving to have to worry about safety all of the time there are still a lot of fun things to do. There are terrific sororities and fraternities that you can join to meet new people as well as student foundation and Chamber. There is always an opportunity to meet new people at Baylor. Soon you will find yourself with tons of new friends!

    Bang for the buck

Though the tuition for Baylor University is a tad bit outrageous, the education that you receive for it is more than worth it. With Baylor's high standards for it's professors (almost all of mine thus far have their doctorate) and the added addition of dining halls with really delicious food and clean dorm rooms...plus the pride that goes with being a part of That Good Ole Baylor Line, if you have the means (or the scholarship) I highly suggest attending.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are a girl select Collins as your dorm of choice, if you are a boy select Penland. I promise that you will thank me later! If you are really into growing spiritually select Brooks College as your first choice.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for students who are dedicated to their school work. Your professors don't want students who are going to slack off during class. You will have plenty of free time, but just know that when it is time to study, it is time to study. There is also no alcohol allowed on campus fyi so... yeah.

Baylor’s education program was one of the main reasons I choose this school. I love the learning atmosphere because the teachers interact with the students. I enjoy having small classrooms where the teacher knows me by name. Having a smaller classroom size of 20-50 students compared to 300 plus students just makes it easier to ask more questions. If the teacher is not enough there are free tutors on campus and SI instructors that are very helpful. I am always one of the slower students so having these opportunities are essential. Besides education religion is really another foundation of Baylor. I at first thought that the Baptist part of Baylor was just a label but that was not the case. Baylor encourages an education in the basis and practices of Christianity. Baylor sponsors several organizations involving mission trips and allows guest speakers that create awareness on issues that an average student like myself can make a difference in. However, I learned so much more outside the classroom. I enriched my education by getting involved in club organizations and projects. I have learned how to be a better person by becoming more patient, gaining better organization and leadership skills, practicing service and learning about more different cultures. The most important lesson I learned at Baylor was, why wait to make a difference?

    Am enjoying being here

No university is perfect but I really do enjoy Baylor. The only two downsides to Baylor are that the school is not as diverse as I would like it to be and the location of the university. At Baylor Caucasians really are the majority. I grew up used to seeing an even portion of different races, so coming to Baylor was different. For the first time in my life I understood that I was a minority which was not a bad thing. From this experience I got to learn about the different cultures at Baylor that I did not know about and I got to teach others about my culture and my experiences. Another adjustment I had to make was the city of Waco itself. I was used to the city life so adapting to a smaller town was a leap. The positive side to this is that I started walking more and gained better health. On the other hand, there are more positive aspects to Baylor than negative. As mentioned I enjoy the education here, but what I enjoy the most is the extracurricular activities I am involved in. Two of my favorites are Taekwondo and the college group for Church Under the Bridge. By joining Taekwondo I got to learn about Korean culture, got in shape and learned lessons on how to be a better person. However, the best part of college has been church. I have never been part of church that embraced the poor, educated, homeless, and different ethnicities as much as Church Under the Bridge. I have never witness so many miracles happen in my entire life.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is a Private University so it is costly. Tuition is about $32,000 per year and does rise about 10% every year. If you are concern with the tuition the school offers lots of scholarships. The main two scholarships you will receive will be your renewable scholarships based that are based on academics and financial needs. As an incoming freshman make sure to make good grades, SAT score, rank and have extracurricular activities. If you are strong on most of these areas you will have a good 4 year scholarship that you will be able to renew if you can maintain a certain GPA at Baylor. The other scholarship is based on financial need which also requires you to keep a certain lower GPA. Besides these renewable scholarships, Baylor offers departmental scholarships, work study, internship opportunities and other financial scholarships. With the problems of the economy your parents may have a change in financial matters and Baylor can help with this. You can apply for a special circumstances form and receive extra help. Basically Baylor is costly, but if you are willing to do the work there is money available.

    Tips for prospective students

The first step is to get into Baylor is to do the requirements (excellent course selection, grades, rank, SAT/or ACT, and extracurricular activities and community service) and apply as early as August. Apply to other schools as well because you can negotiate prices.

Apply for FAFSA as early as possible along with extra scholarships.

The summer before school starts learn what type of learner are you (auditory, visual, kinetic or a combination). Make sure you are able to take good notes because not all teachers allow laptops in class. Lastly, visit Baylor for yourself so you know where your classes will be and the location of help centers.

Once accepted visit bubooks.com to give you an idea the teaching style of the teacher and student’s opinions on that teacher. I have found it is better to judge the teacher by how they teach instead of the teacher’s ranking. Ask yourself, does he or she use power points or just lectures? Does he or she give pop quizzes or only exams? Will he or she require a heavy load of homework or independent studying?

By having the teachers you prefer in mind map out the times for the classes. As a freshman your counselor will help you fit the classes you want but they do not consider the best teachers. TRY to pick one of the sessions for advisement during the summer, classes get filled fast!!!

You can use bubooks to also buy and sell textbooks, do not bother buying books from the bookstore. You can log onto your bearweb account, sign in, click on student service & financial aid, next click registration and lastly on purchase your books to see what books you need for the upcoming semester.

Lastly, on the first day of school exchange numbers with your peers.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is best for students interested in mission work, business or the medical field. Also, if you plan on going to Baylor you must be willing to work and not expect an easy A.

In my opinion Baylor is overpriced. Not only do you pay tuition, but many events include extra money. For example although there is a gym we can use for free, there is an additional fee to take classes.

It depends on what courses you take. If you took AP language don't bother with a 2320 level class. I learned all of that in 10th grade. Baylor has these Great Texts courses where you read ancient literature and delve into the deep meanings and themes and reflect on human nature. In High School The Odyssey put me to sleep but my professor's discussions about all the material were fascinating. I also learned much in my Honors calculus based physics class. Honors courses are small and personal.

As I walk around campus, I often find myself thinking, I love college! I live in a wonderful dorm with suite style baths and the view out my window is the beloved Pat Neff tower which tolls the hour and randomly plays songs on the bells (including baylor's alma mater). The campus has beautiful red-brick buildings and all is well-maintained. I like the food in the residential dining halls; there are many options of meal plans for every student. My professors have all been good. Our football team is on the rise, and I love cheering them on as a member of the 260-member marching band. Like large school, there are countless opportunities, clubs, student organizations, sports, etc. Like a small school, you walk around campus and see people that you know. I absolutely love it here.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is one of the least expensive private universities. Yes, state schools are generally cheaper, but Baylor gives huge merit scholarships. If you can even get into UT, Baylor probably will give you a competitive scholarship. Both schools cost about the same for me with my scholarship. There is so much included in tuition. programs galore

    Tips for prospective students

Prepare for the SAT. I feel that is what they largely base scholarships on. Also, start studying your Bible. My freshman (required) Christian Scriptures class was tough! Baylor accepts quite a lot of AP credits, so check their list (posted online) and pass those APs! you save valuable time and textbook money.

Great for these types of students

Those who go to college for an education, not a party. Those who are Christian, or who can tolerate Christians. Baylor doesn't feel Baptist specifically, but there are many enthusiastic Christians. The reasons I chose to come here were size, I can fully avoid party scene if I choose, and I want to learn more about religion. Oh yes, and excellent biology program!

When I finished my last final and finished up my first semester at Baylor, my head was jammed with information and knowledge that I would have never believed it could contain. Baylor's student teacher ratio honestly contributed to my learning and I got to know every one of my professors. (except for my Biology teacher because he was extremely rude but I still got an A in his class.) Baylor is a school with people that really want you to succeed and will do whatever it takes to help if you are struggling. They understand how important a GPA is to a college student. When I found myself struggling in Pre-Calculus for example, my professor was there for me to give me extra practice after class and during his office hours. If anyone is serious about learning THIS IS THE COLLEGE FOR YOU!!!

    Am enjoying being here

I can remember my first day on campus during moving in day. Like any other first year student I didn't know anyone and I was nervous. Thankfully, Baylor has a warming, hospitable environment that helped get used to college very quickly! Everyone here is so friendly it's annoying! Apart from the friendly environment, Baylor has a student center with a vast amount of food places to choose from. On top of all that, Baylor has a Bowling Alley on campus! There's also a 24 hour Subway on campus! I love this place.

    Bang for the buck

Everyone knows Baylor reputation for being extremely costly. What everyone does not know is that you get so so so much more than what you pay for. Baylor academically ranks high among the top universities in the world. When you graduate from here you will be set for life. Baylor offers a vast amount of resources with a computer in almost every building room and a library that caters to your academic needs. Baylor also offers a tremendous amount of financial aid if your looking for it, which we all are.

    Tips for prospective students

When registering for classes and making your schedule, try as hard as possible to keep your classes as close as possible to each other so you wont have to be running across campus to your next class because your next class starts 5 minutes after your first class. Also, order your books online and have them shipped to your house or your school address because at the line at the beginning of the semester for books is treacherous. You will be waiting for hours.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for students who are extremely friendly and are people persons. If you love to volunteer Baylor has countless opportunities. If you have an aspiration for ministry and religious affairs then Baylor, being the largest Baptist school in the world, is the BEST place to go.

Baylor University has proved to have an excellent learning environment, as well as wonderful professors that are willing to speak with you and help you whenever you need. There are many free tutoring opportunities in case you are struggling and need extra help. I am a Computer and Electrical Engineering major and am more than happy with the small class size and the extra help that is provided for instance I have been very happy with my professors, they explained information well and I understood everything, but when I didn't I was able to get extra help in tutoring or visit the professor during their office hours and get extra help. The small classes and eager professors make learning at Baylor enjoyable.

    Am enjoying being here

Baylor has many different activities and lots of opportunities for students to get involved. There are many organizations such as sororities, fraternities, ROTC, clubs, volunteer activities, groups within different majors and societies. The atmosphere is very friendly where everyone is very eager and happy to meet new people. The campus is beautiful, granted Waco is very small and there's not much to do in the city, Baylor has lots of activities, on campus dining, bowling and a large work out facility. There are also many places on campus to study if you don't wish to be swept away by all the liveliness.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive, especially since they rose the tuition, however you get many scholarships entering also with the FAFSA you can have pretty much half of your tuition payed for. I'm not sure if going to another college would be worth a cheaper price, Baylor's professors are kind and eager to help their students, which I value, you don't have to deal with TA's, which is very nice. If you come in with a high gpa and SAT scores, Baylor should give you many scholarships. Along with other scholarships, you could have pretty much all of Baylor payed for.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the FAFSA, the most difficult thing about Baylor would be the high tuition. If you get most of your financial aid you'll be good to go. Good grades are also important, I don't believe getting into Baylor is difficult, but having good grades helps get more scholarships.
Also, because of Baylor's many opportunities for leisure, you need to be able to manage your time and money. There are many opportunities to go out on the weekends and enjoy yourself, but sometimes you can get over involved and lose track of your studies. The semester was pretty easy, but it sneaks up on you the second semester and you've got an unmanageable workload after you've been used to enjoying yourself too much.

Great for these types of students

Being religious helps, there are many opportunities at Baylor that involve religious activities. You are surrounded by many eager churches and volunteer organizations that would love to have you. If you enjoy serving the community, there are many different activities where information is very simple to acquire here at Baylor. People are friendly, energetic, athletic and social. If you enjoy all those characteristics Baylor would be an enjoyable place for you as well. If you are a student that is involved and enjoys being a part of a positive community, Baylor would also be for you.

The professors at Baylor have a genuine concern for the advancement of your education. Even with a large student population most classrooms are structured fairly small. Freshman year I attended classes with twenty people or less and a couple big general studies courses with eighty people or more. Opportunities for success are everywhere, the Sid Richardson Success Center provides tutoring and counseling, The Writing Lab offers help from graduate students, and most classes offer supplemental instruction.
Most professors are either trying to receive or have doctorates in the fields they teach. What they have to teach is their passion therefore at times challenging but you will learn useful material from individuals who are renowned in their field.
Baylor is not just an academic experience. The experiences you get from branching out to Waco and extracurricular activities will benefit your future greatly. There are endless opportunities to do well and learn.

    Am enjoying being here

My first experience in dorm life at Baylor was of many random people helping me move my stuff into the room. I was given the advice by my community leader (the equivalent to a residential assistant) to leave my door open while I was in my room. I met many people this way making for a friendly home atmosphere.
The campus itself is beautiful. The commute to class on a perfect day is wonderful you see people and friends you know every step of the way.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is a great school with a great a name and great connections. Baylor offers many great scholarship opportunities. Tuition is expensive; however by taking the right steps students are able to reduce that price through government aid and scholarships significantly. Prospective students are able to calculate their merit scholarship amount on the Baylor website. In addition after filling out FASFA the record will be sent to Baylor and from there a need-based scholarship will be determined. The combination of merit and need-based scholarships makes Baylor a great bang for your buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Baylor has a rolling application deadline. Submit your application in as soon as possible. You don’t want to be clueless at the end of May as to where you are going in two months. You also have a better chance of getting the dorm of your choice. Baylor emphasizes SAT scores. Take the SAT early, if need be take it twice place yourself in the best position possible.
Plan for orientation: How many days will you stay? Where will you stay? What questions do you have? What opportunities interest you? You will register classes at orientation also, be sure to pick an early orientation to better your chances of a great schedule. The first to register have the first pick at times.
Make sure to become acquainted with Robinson Tower where help with financial aid, records, transcripts, etc can be found. Use facebook to find your roommate(s) and coordinate living together for the year to come.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for students who want to receive an education and surround themselves around others with good Christian values. That is not to say only Christian values; there is multiplicity of views and beliefs with a friendly atmosphere to encompass all of them. Come with a plan for success.

    Did learn a lot

Baylor is great at maintaining small classes which in turn, if you properly take advantage and meet with your professors, can benefit your academics and learning experience. The professors are knowledgeable, sometimes funny, and are very sincere about what they're teaching. On several occasions I even met my professors outside of their office hours; They all really care.

    Did enjoy being here

I had such a wonderful time at Baylor... I don't know where to begin. One of my most enjoyable moments was during welcome week. All the guys from each residence hall walked around campus to each female-dorm and we serenaded the girls as they sat outside. If you're a brave stud you can steal the scene by stepping forward so all the ladies can catch a long glimpse of you! The rec center is great and if you're an avid basketball player then you'll love the competition. Get involved! Baylor is a small university but there are many organizations. You're bound to find something befitting to you. I was in a couple of Christian organizations, College Out-Reach and Evangelism (C.O.R.E) and Impact, and regularly attended Boxing fitness classes which is a branch of the Bearobics Program. On campus, expect concerts, interesting guest speakers, or events held by the organizations of Baylor itself. Waco, the town where Baylor is located, is a small town so some people would agree the entertainment off campus is scarce. I only went to the movies and, on one occasion, the Dr. Pepper museum. As for the other few places to go I can't say. The Christian atmosphere is highly dense at Baylor and I needed that in my life. I cherish the spiritual growth I got from Baylor the most and although I only went there my freshman year it changed my life for the better. Oh, and the campus is beautiful.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive but if you're leaving high school with a strong gpa, high SAT and/or ACT scores, and a decent background of extracurricular activities or service, then expect them to invest in you a good sum of money. Baylor's financial aid is awfully generous. For example, Baylor offered my friend so much that it ended up cheaper than some of the big public schools in Texas! He was a wiz though and good academics are key to maximizing the money you get from any institution.

    Tips for prospective students

Speak to upperclassmen about professors and know your professor's office hours. Also, don't study in your room. Go to the library or be creative like me and go to the fourth floor of the science building to study during the night hours! It's so tranquil then. I highly recommend finding a study-buddy or establishing a study group to help keep your drive for success stronger. Also, don't short-hand yourself, join a club or two. Last but not least, get to know your Hall directors and Community Leaders! They're there to ensure you are comfortable and happy

Great for these types of students

Great for Christians. If you love jogging as I do the Bear Trail is about 2.25 miles and encompasses nearly the entire campus. For the adventurous students, if you enjoy getting involved with the community, especially a community in need such as Waco, then Baylor is great place to do it. It is definitely a place for the open minded. If you're open minded then the chapel and religion classes shouldn't bother you. Some people found it irritating but it's as I said, if you're open minded then you might even find yourself looking forward to chapel and religion.

The great thing about being at Baylor is that EVERYONE cares! The teachers genuinely care about what the students are learning and do all they can to make sure than we are understanding the material. Some classes are big lectures, but there are also many small classes that allow students to be engaged. Even in the lectures professors encourage students to ask questions. Grades are online and many teachers also have Powerpoints online to review. Many of the professors also have very flexible office hours so you are able to see them when you need help. There are tutoring sessions called Supplemental Instruction (SI) taught by other students who have already taken the class that REALLY help students understand the material.

Although outsiders may believe that Baylor is boring because it is a private Baptist university, there are so many things to keep students busy and involved. The people are very nice. From the moment that you become part of the Baylor family, you feel completely at home. Line Camp and Welcome Week help freshmen feel connected to the university, teach traditions, and get them used to college life. Throughout the campus you will find notifications about different events written in chalk on the sidewalks and streets, as well as posters and fliers. Students are also informed about campus events through e-mails and Chapel. There will never be a moment when you don't feel included on campus.

    Bang for the buck

For the most part, students get what they pay for. Baylor provides a GREAT education and professors do everything they can to ensure that. School activity costs such as football and basketball games are included in the tuition so you never have to buy a ticket. The dorms are overall nice. One thing to note is that some dorms have community bathrooms and no carpet, and the provided utilities may not be up to par. Otherwise, students do get their bang for the buck!

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for prospective students is to visit the campus first and be sure that this is the school for you. The moment I stepped on campus I knew this was where I wanted to be. Also, I just completed my first semester at Baylor, and I can say that my GPA wasn't where I wanted it to be. I encourage all students to get involved in as many activities and attend as many events as your hearts desire to be connected with the campus, but at the same time know how to have a balance between work and fun. High grades will NOT come easy, so I advise spacing out studying, because simply studying before tests and finals will not always get you the grades you want.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for students who like the comfort of a small close-knit university. You know how on movies, there are always college kids outside playing football and Frisbee? That's the kind of school Baylor is. Everyone is friendly and wants to best for each other. That's a great thing about Baylor.

I came from a competitive high school where a rigorous academic curriculum was followed. I have found Baylor to live up to my expectations as an excellent academic institution. They teach well in the classroom and give you homework that applies directly to your course. They have a high academic standard and the professors work with you.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is well maintained with new flowers every 6-8 weeks. People are very friendly, almost everyone will hold the door open for you. There is a general happiness you can sense with the students and a friendliness that is refreshing to see.

    Bang for the buck

You pay for classes by the semester and not based on how many hours you are taking. No matter if you take 12 hours or 18 hours you pay the same price, so try not to take to little of hours each semester. You are required to live on campus your first year and required to purchase a meal plan. You definitely pay a lot for not so great dorm rooms and not so great food. You quickly become cramped in your room and tired of the cafeteria food, but will adjust and get settled in. I hated the dorms at first but have come to enjoy living with my friends and having the convenience of living on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Try your hardest to improve your SAT/ACT scores. They give out scholarships based on your high school GPA and your test scores. This is the only time they will offer you a non-need based scholarship so work hard to improve your scores.

Great for these types of students

Girls and guys who are interested in Greek Life, Christians who are looking for a school that combines faith inside and outside the classroom and students looking for a high academic standard from their university.

Baylor University cultivates learning and excellence at a whole new level. The classes are challenging, but the professors are extremely helpful and everyone wants you to succeed. The Paul L. Foster Success Center offers free tutoring in the subjects students historically struggle with and provide assistance to help them succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

Despite the fact I am over 2,000 miles away from home, this feels like home now. The Baylor community is extremely welcoming and helps you to feel right at home. There are countless opportunities going on around campus every week--the tough part is selecting the one or two to attend. The Community Leaders in the community living help you adjust as you transition from high school to college.

    Bang for the buck

Even though Baylor is quite costly, it consistently ranks as a best value for all colleges in the United States. Also the opportunities for financial aid is tremendous and help defray the cost. The quality of education is truly the most important thing when trying to find a college to attend and Baylor absolutely has quality.

    Tips for prospective students

The application is very simple and requires little work, fill it out. Also, work hard at practicing the SAT and ACT as Baylor weights these tests heavily in admission and financial aid. In high school, work hard at maintaining a high GPA and focus on a few, select extracurricular events.

Great for these types of students

National Merit Scholars can receive a full ride scholarship if they choose to attend Baylor. If you are looking to study Pre-Health Baylor is the place for you. Also the Business school is very strong and has many opportunities. Furthermore, if you want to grow your faith or are interested in learning about the Christian tradition Baylor will offer you many opportunities to find God. Baylor is the largest Baptist university in the world. Therefore, Chapel, Religion, and other courses are required--so just be aware when applying.

The academic quality here at Baylor is superb. The classes are interesting and the professors work to stimulate your thinking; of course, like all colleges there are professors and classes here that are less-than-worthy of even considering taking, but it comes down to the effort you put into choosing your classes and professors. Go to the BUBOOKS.COM website to see the professor ratings..I did that, and I enjoyed every single class I have taken. Excellent academics and resources to help in the schoolwork process.

    Am enjoying being here

The people are friendly..if you know the right people of course. At first, most people are nice, and it's definitely easy to find a social niche within the campus. It seems like everyone is the same, but if you take the time to see, you'll definitely be able to fit in with a group. There are numerous campus events constantly happening so you'll definitely enjoy your time here if you make the effort to be active in campus life. Waco, however, leaves much to be desired. If you work to build a social life, the mundaneness of Waco shouldn't be a problem since parties are always going on and Austin and Dallas are nearby.

    Bang for the buck

You definitely see where your tuition goes here at Baylor. The campus is beautiful and always maintained and there are always numerous events funded by the University. You definitely get what you paid for in terms of academics as well. This of course only maintains to people who take the most out of their classes. If you slack, then that's another issue.

    Tips for prospective students

    -HAVE A CAR
    -be sociable!
-be aware of the Christian mindset here
^^as for the Christian atmosphere, it's not imposing or stifling at all..of course there are individuals who come in with ignorance but it's to be expected from a Christian school. You just learn to ignore and adapt.
-check out the Honors Program (it's great)

Great for these types of students

    -christians
-people that expect a good future and career
    -academically studious

The professors at Baylor are highly qualified and stimulate interesting discussions with their students. At times the curriculum can require many hours of outside work, but by the end of the semester you'll emerge from the experience with a rather complete understanding of the subjects encountered. I believe the only downside to the curriculum is that sometimes it seems as though some information is left out if it does not comply with the university's religious affiliation. I have not come across this too often, however.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and on the smaller side, so physically it is a great place to attend college. However, I sometimes feel the Christian affiliation is crippling and claustrophobic. The university attracts a certain demographic - the conservative Christian type. The student who differs from the majority's faith and conservative values may find it incredibly difficult to mesh comfortably with the rest of the student body as a result.

    Bang for the buck

The university is infamous for its ridiculously high tuition, though often times it provides generous scholarships to the academically upstanding or those in need of financial aid.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not - I repeat, do not - purchase textbooks (or anything, for that matter) from the bookstore located on campus. The incredibly inflated prices will rob you for all you're worth. Purchase school supplies off-campus, and buy your schoolbooks at places like amazon. It may not be as convenient, but it will prevent you from wasting your money at a ridiculously high-priced university-affiliated store.

Great for these types of students

Conservative-minded, Christian students. It is also an excellent university for students who are aiming for medical school, seeing as it is well-known for its pre-med program and med school.

The classes are pretty much what you would expect a college class to be. They demand your focus and can be hard but if you stay committed, you might find you actually like your classes. I have learned a lot while at Baylor both in and out of the classroom.

Baylor offers a ton of free events that are great ways to meet new people. There's always something going on around campus and it is really easy to get involved.

    Bang for the buck

It's no secret that Baylor is a bit on the pricey side when it comes to tuition. However, they will work with you and are very helpful with scholarships. Don't let the cost keep you from coming here. It's a wonderful university and worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

My number one tip for incoming freshman would be time management. College can be intimidating when you first get there and you go over the expectations and due dates on the syllabus. It may look like a lot but it is do-able. Also, don't ever be afraid to talk to your professors. You will find they are always eager to help you understand. Lastly, study study study! But still make time for fun. I hope you love Baylor as much as I do!

Baylor's small class sizes are really helpful as a new student especially during a difficult semester. It is not difficult to build a productive/informative relationship with each professor. Every single one of my classes had been geared towards making sure each student understands and fully grasps the material. The professors are not out to get you, and many of them offer extra credit/ability to drop test scores.

    Am enjoying being here

Waco is horrible, but that is not Baylor's fault. Campus is nice, and there are many dining options other than the cafeterias. I for one am not the party type and am usually comfortable attending small gatherings with friends. Yet, if you do find that an exciting city is something you're looking for/need...don't go to Baylor. Also, a lot of reviews talk about the awkwardness if you are a minority. As a black female...I haven't really experienced it. Maybe I am oblivious to life, but most of the people seem almost unrealistically happy. However, like anywhere else you will run into the occasional idiot.

    Bang for the buck

The education isn't shabby, but at 40k+, it starts looking that way. The only reason I gave it four stars is because many students receive a good amount of financial aid if they stay on top of things, and opportunities for more scholarships are available through each semester.

    Tips for prospective students

Focus on your SAT scores, they are very important when it comes to financial aid. Also, once accepted, make sure you fill out FAFSA quickly because you're going to need all the financial assistance you can get.

Great for these types of students

Students that aren't looking for a crazy night life, love small class sizes, and don't mind seeing the same people quite a few times a day will love this university.

I have learned a lot during my time at Baylor University. I was pleasantly surprised by how intriguing and thought-provoking each class and professor has been at Baylor. It's certainly no walk in the park, but when you apply yourself you will discover how great the academic resources and staff are here at Baylor.

    Am enjoying being here

Baylor is a great place. While the city of Waco is nothing spectacular, the campus and people more than make up for it. I feel so welcome and safe at Baylor. I am an out of state student, which did not make me feel out of place. There is a great mix of Texans and out of state students that make it easy to meet and connect with people. The students and faculty are some of the nicest I've ever come across. The student population is diverse, with a wide range of interests, but no one will judge you for what activities and interests you do or don't have. Even though it is a Baptist university, but there is no pressure to be a part of any one particular religion. People at Baylor are very open-minded and friendly, I found it very easy to make friends. In addition to the people, Baylor provides many fun events and social activities for students, which makes it easy to have a good time! Whether you participate in a fraternity or sorority, or are an athlete, or more of a bookworm, you're bound to find something fun to do on campus or in Waco. While students at Baylor are very dedicated to their school work, I have had a blast. With the amazing friends and teachers and events at Baylor, it's hard not to enjoy yourself while also pursuing your own academic goals.

    Bang for the buck

Being a private school, Baylor University will of course be more expensive than an in-state public school. However, the cost of being a private school is certainly worth it. The bill itself won't be cheap, but the experience at Baylor, and the resources it provides, make it a great financial investment for your future. On the surface, Baylor has a great reputation, and many individuals have graduated from this university and gone on to become CEOs, doctors, and have other successful careers. But being at Baylor, I have been able to see what resources are available to students. Baylor has programs and opportunities which students can use to their advantage; some are available to all students, others depend on your major. As a Business Major, I have found what is available to me, be it a internship opportunity or scholarship. Baylor also has a success center where anyone can come in and meet with the staff, who will help them get on the path for success and connect them with vital opportunities. Most importantly, however, is the networking opportunities that Baylor provides. It seems that at every turn there is someone new to meet at Baylor, whether it is a professor, speaker at an event, or one of the deans. Each person you talk to is a great resource for networking, and you will be surprised by who will be the person that will be able to provide you a job opportunity or inform you of a scholarship they think could benefit you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't sell Baylor short for being a private school or a Baptist university. The cost is well worth it, and if you are not of Baptist or a religious background, you will still love it at Baylor.

Coming to Baylor University I was terrified of harsh professors and mountains of homework, fortunately I was just overreacting. So far all of my professors have been pretty cool and nice. They are all down to earth and understand that life does happen. The homework load has been fair, there have been days when I have nothing to do and others when I am up late at night trying to figure out the difference between the imperfect and the preterit tense. The work has been challenging, but in a good way, where I am learning not only the material but also great work ethic and skills for a successful future.

Arriving at Baylor I was taken away by the beautiful campus. The buildings are all strategically designed and placed and the grounds are kept in immaculate condition. I enjoy walking around and marveling at the picturesque campus. Baylor has such a welcoming atmosphere. Everyone here is so incredibly nice and friendly, that it creates a loving environment. There so many activities and clubs and organizations on campus that it is hard not to find something to do. Overall my time so far at Baylor has been amazing and I can only hope that it will continue to be an enjoyable experience.

    Bang for the buck

As everybody knows, Baylor is a pretty pricey university. The tuition alone is about $40,000 per year and then you have to buy several textbooks, but let's not get discouraged. With the tuition you are paying for the upkeep of the campus, so it always looks fabulous. And Baylor provides several free events and activities throughout the year. Also, Baylor gives out pretty good scholarships and our new president is trying to raise more money for scholarships. Baylor is also known for its music and medical school and its entrepreneurship program. At Baylor University you get some bang for the buck, but not as much as you want.

    Tips for prospective students

Baylor is a good university if you are interested. First tip; apply for every scholarship possible, every little bit helps. Next, apply for everything as early as possible, whether it is get into the college or housing or line camp, it fills up fast. When you get here, find a good group of friends that you can hang out with and study together, it will make the year bearable. Also, whatever you do, don't get behind on your reading. Your assigned reading is extremely important, and it is hard to catch up. Finally, have fun. You are in college, go have fun with your friends, go to events and activities, and join some clubs. Now I don't mean go crazy and party all the time, just enjoy yourself in a safe and legal manner.

Great for these types of students

Baylor University is great for hard working students. This university is for students who are studious and have great work ethic. Also, this is for the student who enjoys meeting new people from different places and cultures and backgrounds. Baylor is great for students who want to grow and discover themselves in a positive and safe environment. Baylor University is for students that want to have new and exciting experiences but don't mind some hard work

Most of the teachers I have are willing and able to help you out if you're struggling in the class. I hear horror stories from my friends at other colleges and they don't get the same help from the teachers at their school than here at Baylor. Not only is this a great place to learn academically, it is a great place to learn about yourself and learn about the world.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is so friendly here. Upperclassmen and staff and faculty are so helpful and make you feel at home. For incoming freshman students and transfer students, the entire week before class is dedicated to them. It is a perfect time to feel at home at Baylor and get to meet people and learn about the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive, but everyone I know has scholarships to help out. We do get plenty of freebies. We have an on-campus gym, computers and laptops to borrow, home-game tickets, Internet, and so many other events that go on during the year. It is very worth the money to come to Baylor.

    Tips for prospective students

You have to take religion class and chapel in order to graduate from Baylor. Make sure you are okay with that before you enroll, because it can be a pain when you do not want to major in Religion at all.
Baylor is a Baptist school. If you are not religious and aren't comfortable with Christianity, then you should deeply consider whether or not you should come here. However, there are many, many non-religious, non-Christian students that come here, myself included, and Baylor does not push Christianity upon you or Baptist religion for that matter. Unless you are considerably opposed to Christianity, you should have no problem fitting in whether or not you are Christian or Baptist.

Great for these types of students

Religious, intellectual, willing to learn, friendly.
Student who aren't into the party scene or the stereotypical college scene would be completely at ease here. (Although people who are into those scenes would be able to find their niche as well.)

    Am learning a lot

In high school, I was the one of the smartest students in my class. Schoolwork always came easily to me and an A in all my classes was never doubted. After my first semester at Baylor, I realize just how challenging school should have been. I learn more in one week of classes then I ever did in High school. Although this may sound discerning, I feel it is an amazing opportunity for students to rise to the occasion and really participate in their own education.

Most of the classes have less than 50 students, so courses and professors are more open and available to give students individual attention. I love it!

    Am enjoying being here

I was very sheltered at home, being away from my home town while studying has definitely given me a greater feeling of independence. Even though I do many things independently I have felt a great sense of community since I first stepped foot on campus. People here are genuinely kind and eager to help you if ever needed. Baylor is home.

    Bang for the buck

Because of my good grades in high school and decent test scores, i was able to get a decent sized scholarship package. However, because it is a private school, Baylor is pretty expensive. I have taken out some loans and have had to pay money out-of-pocket. But when added up, the price I pay isn't nearly as much as most private university students pay. Baylor is a steal!

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus! You'll fall in love with the amazing atmosphere Baylor has to offer.
Get involved! There are so many things to do on campus from intramural sports to Student Foundation, and even a break-dancing club, you are bound to find an activity to fall in love with!
Don't Be Shy! Everyone is genuinely nice. Make friends by planning study-groups, trips to Basketball games, and visits to Common Grounds (great coffee!)

Great for these types of students

    All Kinds!
Baylor is so diverse anyone is bound to find their niche!

    Am learning a lot

I just finished my first semester at Baylor University. In that short time period from August to December I learned a lot more than I expected to. I expected my semester to be a breeze and fast paced review of everything I learned in high school and with the possibility of learning a few new things. It turns out that I actually learned everything I had learned in High school with an entirely new understanding and then some. Study skills being one of them. I truly appreciate all of the things I have learned at Baylor, and expect to learn a lot more during my time here.

    Am enjoying being here

I have been having a great time at Baylor University! You feel welcome on campus from the minute you arrive. There are enough organizations and clubs for every type of person to get involved in. Along with the organizations the staff and most of the students are very welcoming people that have your best interest at heart as long as you're willing to put in the work that is required to get you there, which create a very positive atmosphere for any student to be in.

    Bang for the buck

At Baylor you definitely get all of the bang for your buck. There are Dr. Pepper hours, the cafeteria food is very good, the building and the buildings and facilities are very well kept. This is all paid for with our tuition. Although every student knows it is a private University and that such a price accompany a private university, I am sure we all believe it would be a lot nicer if that buck was not so high.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for a many scholarships as possible! Also, work on your study skills.

Baylor is a wonderful and inviting place to be. The faculty and staff are wonderful and the campus is gorgeous. Although the tuition is high and getting higher every year, Baylor is definitely worth the money that you pay to attend.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're going to Baylor, pack plenty of sunscreen and bug spray- it's super hot down in central Texas. Do keep in mind that Baylor is wonderful, but the surrounding areas aren't always the best and you need to remain vigilant of what's going on around you at all time.

    Academic Rigor

Baylor is definitely challenging- the toughest courses in my life were at Baylor, but they were also some of the most fun courses I have ever taken. The most important thing is to keep up on your work and to choose classes that interest you.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is pretty good in most of the dorms that I've visited, but it can sometimes get a little hectic. If you like hanging out in large groups, pick Collins or Penland, otherwise, I would pick a smaller dorm like Memorial (girl's honors) or Brook's.

    Food and Dining

The SUB has a wonderful selection, and the dining halls are pretty good. Collins is generally smaller and healthier things, but they have great mexican food; Memorial is medium-sized and the best all-around, though even there the food is sometimes off; and Penland is a 'boy's type dining hall- kinda greasy, and not always the best but definitely the biggest selection. Aside from that, there are tons of surrounding fast-food places to eat.

    What to do for fun

Waco can be a fun place, if you just look. My roommate and I had a great time just hanging out at the mall (though it's not very large) or going to one of the movie theaters. The best place is Premier Cinema's- they're a little older movies (after they're out of the big theaters) but they're only 2 dollars a person most nights and pretty cheap concessions.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive, there is no doubt about that, but it is every bit worth that money. I love the school and love the entire atmosphere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Baylor is a Baptist University- this means that you do have required chapel and religion classes for two semesters, but don't let that turn you away. They are very accepting regardless of this and everyone is welcome. And check out the Baylor bears! The school actually has real bears on campus beside the SUB, and they are great to go and watch for a little while.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is a very good school for a Baptist student, but anyone is welcome. I know plenty of other Christians, people of various other religions, and even atheists that very much enjoy their time there. Beyond that, I've seen students of every type- from people that are shy like me, or more extroverted, everyone is welcome.

    Clubs and Activities

There is always something going on at Baylor, and you'll never go bored if you just put yourself out there. I've been to various different events- from homecoming, to parades and a carnival, and have never had a poor experience. (Though Diadeloso 2012 was definitely not my favorite experience, but I have heard that Diadeloso is usually a lot better.)

    Greek Life

I can't say I know a lot about Greek Life- I'm not in a sorority and I don't plan to be, but I do know that there is definitely a presence in the campus and that everyone I've talked to has said that the greek life is very nice.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are always available and there are call-buttons all over campus. They are very good about sending out alerts if anything does happen, and I was given the number to the campus police my first day on campus. When my car was broken into, they were quick to respond and did everything they could to help me, including trying to help me fix a radio that was broken in the event. When I accidentally called campus police in an elevator (my friend and I were goofing off and I got shoved into the 'help button) they were polite and very understanding about the mistake.

I love Baylor University because everyone here is so helpful and kind. The teachers actually care about each student and reach out to make sure you understand the material. I also love how beautiful the campus is, and I love how they give you many opportunities to be involved.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors!! I promise it will help you in the long run. When students get to know their professors, they open the door for so many different things. That professor could give you the extra help you need to learn material and become a future reference. Also take advantage of any opportunities to become more involved in an organization.

    Academic Rigor

The work at Baylor really challenges you to learn whatever material you are studying. It will also help you decide if you are in the right major.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms was one of the best experiences of my freshman year. I was able to meet so many people and develop so many friendships that I know will last way past college.

    Food and Dining

Baylor has many different selections when it comes to food. The SUB contains restaurants such as Chick-fil-a, Moo-ya Burgers, Quiznos, and Panda Express. The dining halls have healthy choices as well as not so healthy choices.

Baylor University instantly makes you feel welcome the second you step foot onto campus. Baylor has this magic that engages with students, faculty and all of Baylor Nation that keeps them returning year after year. Not only does Baylor strive for academic excellence but excellence of character as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't bring too many T-Shirts when first coming to college because you will receive a PLETHORA of new, and usually free, t-shirts! Even on the first day I received like 3 new shirts! Also, enter college with an open mind! You may have asked your parents or older siblings for advice and they'll advise you on what they know about their experience but really, the best advice you'll get is from your own college experience. Come into college and allow yourself to be open to new people, new experiences and so many new pathways that God has set before you!

    Academic Rigor

Baylor is no Harvard and you won't die from work overload on the first day but the academic rigor is quite extensive. Self-motivation is a major skill you will have to hone in on when entering college. You're going to have to spend many hours outside of the classroom studying, doing homework and preparing for the next class. As long as you dedicate yourself to your work and you pay attention, you'll succeed. And in the end, it's all worth it because it's not only helping you with your major, but in real life as well!

    Dorm Life

I LOVED my hall! With our CL, or a RA as most other colleges call them, she loved getting us together and hanging out as a hall. Each girl had an instant bond with one another and I knew walking down the hall I had a friend in each room and that I could turn to them for anything. We did have community bathrooms but they were not bad at all! I never had to wait for a shower stall, they were always clean, and the entire dorm experience was just wonderful!

    Food and Dining

Baylor has 4 different dining halls to choose from and the food quality was highly delectable. Great variety and they were wonderful to just hang out with people and the workers there were the best! They're so friendly and love talking with the students and really make your dining experience one you'll never forget! In the Waco area, the eating options are endless! So many fantastic restaurants to choose from! It always takes me and my friends at least 5 minutes to decide where we want to eat out...and that's a great problem to have!

    What to do for fun

There's Wild West, a country dance hall that is wildly popular for college students. Thursdays are college nights with cheaper prices and it's definitely the hot spot to go for a night out. There's also Lake Waco that's great for a sunny day. Great shopping and eating options! Also, Dallas and Austin are only an hour and a half away which make for great roadtrips!

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is indeed on the more expensive side but between the incredible faculty that help you learn more than you would ever expect, the engaging sporting events, and the gorgeous campus, all of that money is definitely well spent here at Baylor. I can guarantee you that you will never see a more beautiful campus than Baylor University's.

Many, many Bio/Chem/Pre-Med, Music, Engineering and Nursing students attend Baylor due to the incredible programs here! If you're interested in engaging classrooms that will teach you a lot and challenge you as a student, look no farther!

    Clubs and Activities

    SO MANY OPTIONS!
From Greek organizations to the Fencing Club to Sing! to Steppin' Out, Baylor has organizations and clubs for everyone and every interest!

    Greek Life

I personally am not in a sorority but from what I hear from each of my Greek friends, they absolutely love it and enjoy the new friends and the exciting social lives they now hold!

    Campus Safety

I feel completely safe here on Baylor. Waco itself is very sketchty, considering it has one of the highest poverty rates in America, which is why campus security is so high. Between 24/7 police officers roaming the campus, dorms are locked and are only accessible with the proper student ID and is surrounded by restricted areas, I felt 100% safe here at Baylor.

I love this school. The professors care and there's a lot of classes with 30 people or less. The science department gets a lot of funding, so there's many programs that they offer their students.

    Tips for prospective students

Religion is highly stressed in most English and Great Text classes, so if that's something that makes you uncomfortable, don't apply. However, Baylor has research groups in which undergrads can work with graduate students and get published.

    Academic Rigor

My freshman classes were a lot easier than my high school AP classes. However, that's not to say that they were a walk in the park. While they were easier, they also required a lot more time. The assignments are longer. Also, the 3000+ level science classes can be insanely difficult. I recommend getting plenty of supplemental material for them.

    Dorm Life

I hated the dorms, but that just might be because I'm used to having my own room and bathroom. The freshmen dorms are single-sex, with public bathrooms and strict visiting hours for the opposite sex. However, there are dorms, like Brooks and North Village in which you get in-suite bathrooms and more lenient visiting hours. (10am to 2am vs. 1pm to 10pm) I did not see any drugs or alcohol in there, nor did I see any parties. There's strict policies on those things, and I did not see any violations while there. The CLs (RAs) seemed to genuinely care, and they kept the peace in the dorm. All-in-all, it was a quiet experience.

    Food and Dining

The food is pretty good. Collins has the healthy stuff (read as: Chick food), Brooks has the best burgers, Memorial has pre-prepared to-go meals, and Pennland has the largest selection. Most people just go to the cafeteria closest to their dorm.

    What to do for fun

I'm not a Let's-go-out-and-do-something person. There were a lot of campus events, and I suppose they were probably fun, and everyone talked about them, but I personally did not participate. But that's just me.

Baylor is a place where all students can succeed. The faculty and staff do their best to help their students whenever possible. This school will open so many doors.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! There is sooo much do at Baylor, and you'll have more fun if you're not sitting in your dorm. Rush, join a club, go to Freshman Follies and the Homecoming parade at 8am. Live it up!

    Academic Rigor

'It's easy to get into Baylor, it's hard to stay.' Definitely challenging, but not unmanageable. The professors work with you and there is free tutoring, as well as recommended paid tutors, available to you at the Success Center.

    Dorm Life

I met some of my closest friends in my dorm. There are community bathrooms, but you meet people walking down the hall all the time, so its not too bad. The people are great, the RAs are great and super helpful. However, there are visitation hours for the opposite sex to be in the actual room. Common areas have no restrictions.

    Food and Dining

Ah! I love the food here. Brooks and Memorial are the best two. Collins has awesome soft tacos and Penland is open late and really close to Martin and the Russells. Definitely try a Brooks burger.

    What to do for fun

Go to Cameron Park, do things on campus, go eat at one of the great restaurants around town, the Baylor Marina, go to the sports games (students get in free to all home games!!!!!), go see the Heisman and the Women's basketball National Championship trophy

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is actually touted as one of the best bang for your bucks schools. Yes, tuition is a little steep, but its much lower than SMU, TCU and the like. Also, most Baylor students find a job right after graduation. The pre-med students have almost twice the national average in acceptance into med school, the nursing program is to die for, the Business program is amazing and has so many resources built into it and the Engineering program is among the top in the country. Baylor is a great find all around.

DIA! Diadeloso is a day off a couple weeks before finals to party. Best freaking day of the semester. Christmas on 5th and the tree lighting are fun to go. As mentioned before, Freshman Follies is awesome (its a giant food fight in the middle of campus).

Great for these types of students

Students who want to kick butt at life. No, but really. If you want to go into medicine, engineering or nursing- this is your school.

    Clubs and Activities

There are over 275 clubs at Baylor you can join. Going greek is fun. There are intramural sports available and even club sports if you want one step above intra, but not varsity. Student government isnt a huge thing, but thats also a good avenue to pursue leadership.

    Greek Life

Greek is a pretty big thing at Baylor. It doesnt run the show, but alot of students are involved in it. Baylor does spring rush, so you have a whole semester to meet the sororities/fraternities and give you time to settle in before jumping into a huge organization.

    Campus Safety

Lots and lots of Baylor police driving around 24/7 as well as the Waco PD. There are emergency boxes everywhere and campus is pretty well lit. If its after 11 pm, you can call a service to take you home or to the library or whatever, so you dont have to walk.

It's not that hard but you will have to put in some effort. Do your work. Go to class. You should be fine.

    Academic Rigor

Baylor is known for the hard classes, but it really all depends on the professor. Some professors give tons of homework and others give none. Like I said before, just do the work and you should be fine.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorm parties like other schools. There are community leaders and quiet hours and visitation hours. It isn't unbearable though. And you form special friendships with the people that you live with.

It depends on what dining hall you go to, but for the most part the food is pretty decent.

Baylor University is an All-American school based on the foundations of the Christian belief. It is home to Heisman Trophy Winners, NCAA recognition, and a multitude of talented individuals (both faculty and students) striving to better the world.

    Tips for prospective students

Tip One: Make sure you love a small campus!
Baylor is expanding in size, but it can still feel very familiar with the 15-20 minute walk from one side of campus to the other.

Tip Two: Get to know Your Profs!
Most of these professors actually care about you, especially if you are in an honors program or a relatively small class. These professors would love to get to know you better, but more importantly, help you succeed in any way they can. So don't be afraid of an office hour meeting!

    Tip Three: Be Yourself!
Please--we do not need any more look-alikes and act-alikes. We need original people with fantastic ideas. Don't rule yourself out if you think you are not artistic--that thought can be your worst enemy. Strive to be yourself in all situations, and you'll love the leadership roles you stumble upon, the great friends you will obtain, and the awesome recognition from your professors who just love your spunk.

    Academic Rigor

It is possible to breeze through your freshman and sophomore year, but watch out for laziness--it will bite you come junior year. This school does not demand much from you; they more or less propose a challenge, and it is up to you to accept it. Once you accept it, you will know how to work hard, and how to have fun, without it being a total mess.

    Dorm Life

Great friends and enemies are found here. For the most part, dorms are kept clean and the people are kept cordial. Having a roommate is an awesome experience; whether you are introverted, or extroverted, you will know by the end of freshman year. The dorms are mostly split up between male and female; some dorms are co-ed, but the genders are housed on the opposite ends of the building.

    Food and Dining

Depending on where you go (Penland, Memorial, Collins...) the food can be fantastic, or just what you need to keep moving. The dining halls do offer a plethora of choices, which is a plus. I believe Baylor dining halls provide more choice food than most colleges.

    What to do for fun

Hike (Cameron Park), Run (Bear Trail), Swim, Kayak (Marina), Campus golf, run through the fountains, take classes at the gym, join an organization, or start one, and so much more! The possibilities for fun are endless, because people are always coming up with new ideas, new groups, fun parties, and amazing get-togethers. There are annual Campus-wide celebrations, such as Dia del Oso (Day of the Bear), Christmas on 5th (with live sheep at the nativity scene!), and many more. These celebrations often have huge concerts and free food. The cost? Nothing! You already paid for it in your tuition!

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive. Very expensive. Some of the core classes and language classes can be taken elsewhere for a decreased amount of money, because all core classes are essentially the same. As far as the experience (depending on how outgoing you are), it is once in a lifetime.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Dia del Oso and Line Camp are must-go-tos. Dia del Oso happens every year, while Line Camp occurs the summer before your freshman year. I went, and it took my breath away. I was sold--I wanted to be a Baylor Bear forever.

Great for these types of students

Extroverted, Artistic, Athletic, Theatrical, Christian/Religious, Business-oriented, Introverted, Studious, Horse-back Riders, Musicians, and the Awesome (that's you!).

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many, and counting! Pick one, leave one, start your own! From an improvisational comedy group to the Indian Sub-Continental Students Association, there are literally so many choices to pick from, and always the option and freedom of starting your own.

    Greek Life

Greek life is definitely present, both Pan-hellenic (Tri Delts, etc) and Non-Panhellenic (Delta Sigma Theta, etc). I would just say--do not get too carried away.

    Campus Safety

When I was a freshman, not much went on. Lately, however, there have been multiple reports of armed robberies. It is a little weird; seemingly living in downtown Waco is safer than living on Baylor Campus. But don't take my word for it.

Baylor University is an excellent institution for those who wish to make the most of their college experience. The small classes and emphasis on faith and spirituality make students feel right at home. The friendly staff and students make Baylor feel like more than just a university; they make it feel like a family.

    Tips for prospective students

Be serious about school; it is very easy to let your GPA fall and not so easy to bring it back up. Use your professors and other campus resources to guide you through your college experience. Find something you truly love to do and take all the classes you want/are interested in because it's hard to get that kind of opportunity after college!

    Academic Rigor

Teachers are definitely there to push you to your limits. Each class truly tests whether or not you know and understand the subject matter. However, there are an abundance of resources available to ensure the success of all students.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are old and need to be renovated. Also, rooms are a bit small.

    Food and Dining

There is a good variety, but all dining halls are on one end of campus. We have been getting more options recently, however, and these are in convenient locations for those who may not have time to go all the way across campus.

    What to do for fun

There's a lot of small town fun to be had in Waco. There are many beautiful areas to be seen (the park, the suspension bridge, etc.) and there is a ton of stuff to do on campus (rock climbing, kayaking).

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is very pricey (tuition passed the 50k mark this year) and I've seen many students be forced to drop out because of financial issues.

Great for these types of students

Those who wish to be in classes with small teacher-student ratios and those who want a faith-centered college experience.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a club for almost EVERYTHING at Baylor! There are always activities, classes, and events being held by clubs and organizations.

    Greek Life

Greek Life is great at Baylor because there isn't a huge emphasis on partying. Students can explore Greek organizations and find one that really fits them. In addition, Baylor has a policy on not allowing first semester Freshmen to pledge, which I think is great because it allows them to focus on school and not be overwhelmed by pledging their first semester in college. Finally, Baylor takes hazing very seriously and as a result, it is obsolete at our school.

    Campus Safety

On campus is safe for the most part; however, the surrounding areas are prone to crime (muggings and robberies).

Baylor is one of the top Christian universities in the nation, but its faith-based principles make an educational experience that students of all faiths and beliefs benifit from. Baylor puts its students first in everything it does, and it shows with its highly ranked academics and athletics. Every college has its pros and cons, but the cons of Baylor are miniscule compared to the good things that can be said about it.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to Baylor early, because they are very generous in giving out scholarships. They give you many chances to retake SATs and ACTs, and will offer more scholarship money if your scores improve within a certain range. Also, take a campus tour.

    Academic Rigor

Baylor requires every student to take two semesters of chapel, two religion classes, and one political science class. Foreign languages and science classes are known to be the most challenging at Baylor.

    Dorm Life

Most of the dorms are old, and it is recommended that freshman bring an ethernet cable because the wifi is not dependable. However, living costs are cheaper here than most universities. The RA's are called CL's for Community Leaders. The residents on most floors really do get to know each other pretty well, and rules are flexiable if you need a roommate change.

    Food and Dining

There are four on campus dining halls and a food court with fast food places in the student union. I've only tried dorm food at two universities, but Baylor's was better than the first. Freshman can get a meal plan with a certain number of all-you-can-eat meals that are swiped in with a student ID. With five places to eat on campus and plenty of off campus places close by, there's plenty of variety and I never got sick of dorm food.

    What to do for fun

The Student Life Center has a gym, rock wall (tallest in Texas), and basketball and racquet ball courts. A coffee shop across the street from campus has cheap or free concerts almost every week. The nearby movie theater has $5 tickets for students and many restraunts have student discounts. Baylor is next to the Brazos river and it owns a marina where students can rent kayaks and canoes for free. All Baylor sporting events are free for students. A few times a semester Baylor will host carnivals, concerts, guest speakers, and other things free for students.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive. With tuition comes unlimited access to the student life center and gym and free admission to all Baylor sporting events. Every year Baylor graduates have a high job placement percentage, so the education is worth it.

Dia del Oso is a Baylor sponsored day in April where students get the day off and there is a carnival and concerts on campus. Freshman get to run the line, or run on the field before the football team, at every home football game. Before graduating, it is a tradition that students must run through the fountains near the science building and sit on the lap of the statue of Judge Baylor.

Great for these types of students

Someone who is hard working but fun loving, very social, and open minded (especially to religion) would fit in well at Baylor.

    Clubs and Activities

For sports lovers, there are club sports and intramurals for just about everything from basketball to lacrosse to quiditch. There is also The Bear Pit, which gets floor seats at every basketball game. For outdoor lovers there is a sailing club, rock climbing, and paintball club. Among other things there are service organizations, Greek life, church groups, mulitcultural clubs, and more.

    Greek Life

Yes, there are many sororities and fraternities at Baylor. Some are nearly as old as the school.

    Campus Safety

I have never felt not safe on campus, and that's saying something because Baylor is located in Waco, TX. Like many other schools Baylor has its own police department and emergency poles. Campus is well lit at night and there is a golf cart service that can take students across campus after 11 PM.

Apart from this, Baylor is very good at providing as much financial aid to students as possible.

    Campus Safety

Baylor is a great combination of rigorous academics and student life. It is laced with Christian values and is unashamedly Christian, but open and available for conversation and the search for truths, albeit not religious truth. It is diverse and the relationships built here are lasting and meaningful.

Every residence hall is very secure.

    Food and Dining

There are 4 residence hall dining hall options; all of the food is good. You can go to these by buying individual meals or buying a meal plan. Baylor is a great school for someone looking for community and connections. Being a southern school, Baylor has the perks of tradition been a deeply rooted commitment which is something I was drawn to as a prospective student. Baylor truly is a great school that allows you to be challenged in the development of your intellectual, spiritual, and social self.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend finding a group, or two, to be involved with freshman year and then running with that crowd. I am a Community Leader at Baylor, and the hardest thing that freshman face is making new friends and finding their niche. If you want to change the group that you are with the transition is rather simple because of Baylor's size, it is not too big that you get lost, but not so small that everyone knows everyone. So try to become involved in an activity or group.
Another tip would be to really embrace living in the residence halls. Go in with a positive attitude and the experience will be so much better. Try to make friends with your neighbors and your Community Leader, everyone is new and feels awkward so don't worry you are not alone.

    Academic Rigor

Baylor can be very challenging, especially the science courses. If you are looking for a school that you can just scoot through like high school Baylor is not for you. However, if you are really looking for a challenge like studying 40 hours a week (for 2-3 classes) challenge then Baylor is your school.

    Dorm Life

Baylor's resident hall life can be wonderful if you make friends. Get to know your CL and girls around you and it'll be fabulous. If you don't have any interest in making friends then the whole community living (bathrooms especially) can be frustrating. Like everything else in life if you take it with a positive attitude it won't be bad.

    Food and Dining

Some of the dining hall food is below par. Penland has the most options but is not known for its classiness. Memorial has lots of options too, but it can get monotonous. I recommend switching it up, and trying out all of the food options and dining halls and do not let your self fall into a routine.

    What to do for fun

In Waco, activities are best when they are in a group. Traditions such as tortilla tossing are popular among students. Country dancing at Wild West, a local bar that has a college night, is also popular. If that does not sound like your cup of tea, there are five dollar movies, and there are many different restaurants to try out. The shopping is a little limited, but there is still a mall. Going out for frozen yogurt with some friends tends to be a huge highlight too.

    Bang for the buck

Take the ACT/SAT several times, Baylor will combine all of your best scores in the subsections to create your Super Score. That will increase the scholarship that you are eligible to receive. Also attend all the free events, Baylor likes to give out free stuff if you know where to look for it, and your student fees are paying for it so go, and enjoy!
However, Baylor is really expensive, be prepared to take out a loan, or three.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Like I stated earlier, tortilla tossing is a freshman must, as well as taking a picture with Judge Baylor. Attending sporting events has really turned into a highlight event will all of Baylor's recent winnings it has been great.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for most students, it is just a matter of finding your niche. Unfortunately, there is no official campus LGBT group and I have heard some students say that it is difficult to relate to the Baptist mentality, and that Chapel can be annoying and monotonous. However, Baylor can provide a rich experience if you are willing to delve into the culture of the school and embrace the spirit and traditions that are Baylor.

    Greek Life

Greek life does not appear to be big by numbers, but coming from a non-Greek, Greek life runs the school. They are the most active members on campus and it is hard to turn a corner without running into someone wearing Greek letters.

    Campus Safety

Baylor is trying to improve the amount of safety around and on campus. Waco is not the most safe town in the United States, but Baylor's campus is kind of like the safe haven amidst the storm. Around campus there are these big yellow call boxes that if you are in need of help you can press the button and the campus police will respond. Just don't run alone outside in the dark and be smart and you will be fine. Baylor is doing an excellent job of keeping students safe.

Line jerseys are received at Line Camp which is held over the summer and is the most fun the new freshmen have that gives them the opportunity to make friends before school starts and to get a feel for the campus and how they will be living.

Great for these types of students

Students who are looking for an excellent education especially in Biology and Business will fit in perfectly at Baylor.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many, many cubs and organizations to choose from and there is almost always some sort of school wide function every weekend that students can participate in.

    Greek Life

Although there is not an official Greek Life on campus, we have a very large Greek Life and almost all students participate in some sort of fraternity or sorority.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is great. There are always Baylor police officers on campus and they can be easily reached. Also, if there are any threats or concerns whether it is weather or problems off of campus, Baylor sends a text message to every student as well as an email to their Baylor email account.

Baylor University is a ten out of ten when it comes to the college experience! The campus is absolutely beautiful, the students are very friendly, and the professors want to see you achieve your best. When you step foot on campus, you'll really feel like you're home.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in whatever you find interesting. Baylor has so many options for clubs and organizations that they will definately have a place for you!

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what you major in, Baylor will test your limits. Especially for the science majors the course work is invigoratingly difficult at times, but the classes are worth the work you put into them.

    Dorm Life

I went potluck my freshman year and got a fantastic roommate. Baylor has many different options for dorms to live in, and the great part is that they are specialized for what you are studying (honors dorm, pre-med dorm, living and learning dorms).

    Food and Dining

Baylor has four main cafeterias, and they each have many options for types of food to eat. On campus there is also the Student Union Building (SUB) which has a variety of restaurants to choose from. Just across the highway is what we students call the grease pit because of all the fast food. Waco has many options for fantastic family-owned dining as well.

    What to do for fun

Now since it is Waco, there isn't going to be the same things to do as if you went to a big city school in Dallas or Austin, but there are many things to do on and off campus. The zoo in Cameron Park is excellent as well as the museums just off campus. Baylor prides itself on encouraging their students to get involved off campus in the Waco community, so there are many opportunities to volunteer and help out those in need.

    Bang for the buck

The reason I am only putting three stars is because although Baylor is a fantastic school, it costs a lot of money to go here. However, Baylor is one of the best schools when it comes to helping their students find a way to pay for college through student jobs, scholarships, and financial aid.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Baylor is all about tradition. It is the oldest university in Texas after all! One fun tradition is the Baylor Line. Freshmen students are given a line jersey and a slime cap that has their name and hometown written on the bill. During home football games the Line runs onto the field and forms a tunnel to welcome the football players onto the field. It is one of the best parts of football season!!

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for students who like to be involved. Everyone at Baylor is involved in some way or another. Since Baylor is a Christian school, most of the traditions and faculty encourage an expression of the Christian faith, so Baylor is a great school to attend if you are a fellow believer of Christ.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many organizations and clubs on campus. The list keeps growing as more and more organizations are created by students. I am thoroughly convinced that there is an organization for anyone and everyone at Baylor.

    Greek Life

Baylor has fraternities and sororities, but a big difference is that pledging takes place in the Spring semester instead of the fall. That way the student is given the chance to really decide if they want to be a part of Greek Life. The Greek Life gets the priviledge of participating in one of the most popular traditions at Baylor, All University Sing. They put together a show for the student body and alumni that is spectacular!

    Campus Safety

Waco is one of the more dangerous cities in the U.S., but the Baylor police do an excellent job of keeping students safe. Emergency call boxes are located throughout campus, and they encourage students to call a service on campus that will pick students up from any location and take them back to their dorms at night so they don't have to be out at dark.

    What to do for fun

There are great athletic events to attend, awesome rec center, shopping and movie theatres nearby.

    Bang for the buck

The education you'll receive at this private university is well worth the money spent. They offer academic scholarships which help lower the tuition cost to what I'd pay to stay in state at a public, local university.

    Clubs and Activities

Baylor has a variety of clubs and activities for you to choose from depending on how busy you want to be and how much free time you have.

    Greek Life

They offer Greek life if you're interested but do not offer houses for the students to stay in. This may be a draw back for some or a plus for others.

    Campus Safety

Baylor is a great school for people looking for a quality Christian University. The faculty and staff are excellent and truly want the students to succeed at all cost The only down side about Baylor is its location in Waco, Texas and the cost of tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

It never hurts to apply. Baylor has no required essay and it defiantly worth your time to come on a campus tour.

    Academic Rigor

The course are difficult at times depending on the teachers you get. However, there are plenty of tutors at Baylor's help center so the students can succeed.

    Dorm Life

The dorms aren't the greatest but they are convenient. Every freshman lives in the dorms for the first year and it is easy to walk anywhere on campus with out a car from your dorm room in a reasonable time.

    Food and Dining

The food in the dining halls is amazing. They always have a variety to choose from and great hours.

    What to do for fun

You have to do a lot of little things for fun since Baylor is in Waco. So things like sports, movies, and other activities.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is defiantly worth it for those who can afford it.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Baylor has a few unusual traditions like not stepping on the seals on campus, but nothing to serious. The tradition are mostly cheers at football games and basketball.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is great for all types of students. There is something for everybody.

    Clubs and Activities

The are a wide range from clubs to choose from. Baylor defiantly has something for everyone.

    Greek Life

The Greek Life is lacking cause Baylor is a dry campus with no set Greek houses. However, there are frats and sorority house off campus and they still get involved with Baylor events.

    Campus Safety

Baylor has one of the safest campuses I have seen. There is never really any incidents on campus regarding security.

Baylor is a wonderful University! It is exceptional because it stands strongly on two central tenets of a good education: Faith and Academics. Baylor wants its students to become leaders and to live rich, morally fulfilling lives. Baylor is welcoming and very much home from the moment you step on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Bring an ethernet cable, and never procrastinate! Always get plugged into a few things that you can become deeply involved in. You don't need tons of stuff your first year (you'll live in a dorm), but it can really pour in Waco from time to time, so bring an umbrella!

    Academic Rigor

Baylor doesn't play with slouches. If you like to put your homework off till the night before, you're in for it. We're known for having the best of the best, and competition is high.

    Dorm Life

Unless you're living in Brooks' Flats or North Village (which are pretty darn swanky), you'll have the joy of loud neighbors and community bathrooms. The CL's (Community Leaders) are on every hall in the dorms. Your CL is there to help you, and be your friend. If you ever encounter a problem, she/he will get it taken care of!

    Food and Dining

At Baylor, you have tons of options! You can visit any of the five dining halls with your meal plan. Collins is famous for its Mexican food and pancakes at breakfast. Memorial is famous for its grilled cheese, and Brooks has a classier environment. Penland is less favored, but is good when you're on the run. East Village is currently under construction. At Baylor, you always have an array of options even if you're a gluten-free eater or a vegan!

    What to do for fun

EVERYTHING! Go ride the water slide at the SLC, go to church and find a college group, try the crazy local restaurants, go to the rodeo, go to the movies (5$ for students), visit our bowling alley, go to Common Grounds and see a band live and get an amazing cup of coffee, go to basketball/football games, go kayaking, whatever you enjoy!

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is pricey, but you get a lot out of it. They bring speakers that are internationally recognized in the world of academia, and you rub shoulders with the best and most brilliant in your field. Baylor will take care of you, and you will encounter a diverse community that prizes morality and hard work.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Dr. Pepper Hour is every Tuesday from 3-4PM ... you can get a free Dr. Pepper float!

    The Sic 'Em. Self-Explanatory.

Baylor has so very many traditions! If you take a tour(or look it up on a search engine), you can ask your guide. They'll automatically come up with five I'm sure. It's the oldest school west of the Mississippi, so we have a lot of traditions attached to our heritage.

    Clubs and Activities

On your first week at Baylor, there is a fair for every sort of club imaginable! Visit it and get all the info (and free food) you want!

    Greek Life

Baylor has a rich Greek life! We have large national organizations, and also small Christian ones.

    Campus Safety

Baylor has campus police that drive around 24/7. You can hit an emergency button on the call towers posted around campus and police will be there in 3 minutes or less. You can always see one tower when you're standing at another. After 11pm there is a golf cart shuttle service you can call to take you around campus for safety. Baylor is extremely safe and I've never felt endangered on campus.

baylor university is full of baylor pride, spirit, and christian devotion. baylor explores the academic and spiritual potential of each student and provides a place of fun and security for this growth. baylor is place through which people of all ages are proud to say sic 'em bears for the rest of their lives!

    Tips for prospective students

i believe that you should choose the right school for you. choose a major that you will enjoy, not one that your parents or teachers chose for you. baylor can help you learn who you are and what you absolutely love to do and that is priceless. baylor provides a community of students who enjoy academic challenges, but love to have fun and want to further their relationships with god. so, if that describes what you wish to experience in college, baylor is a good fit for you!

    Academic Rigor

there are so many levels of academic rigor throughout baylor. i don't believe that there are any so-called blow-off classes, because all are intellectually stimulating in some way, but there are classes that dive into deeper, more difficult topics and discussions and contain a heavier workload. i love that baylor really establishes what the class in about from the get-go, but then as the semester goes on, the discussions become more applicable to everyday life and more intense as far as philosophy and opinions stand.

    Dorm Life

i love my dorm! i live in memorial residence hall and i enjoy it a lot! the only thing that isn't the greatest is my personal roommate situation. however, the size is great! it may seem small, but there's a lot you can do with the space and i love that i have my own bathroom and only need to share it with three other girls!

    Food and Dining

the dining halls have really good food and there is a good variety, so it's difficult to get sick of the food on-campus. the only thing i would suggest is to build another dining hall on the opposite side of campus near the bsb, hooper-schaefer, and north village. penland is a little far away to come from those places, but all in all, the food is great!

    What to do for fun

baylor is so busy! there is always an event somewhere going on! if there isn't, then you must be off campus. honestly, it is so easy to get involved! plus, there's a bowling alley in the sub, and the movie theater near campus is only $5 if there's absolutely nothing else to do. but, i dare somebody to be bored at baylor! i think it's impossible.

    Bang for the buck

Great for these types of students

if you are hard working, looking for community, have a desire to learn, have fun, and grow with god, then baylor is perfect for you!

    Clubs and Activities

there is an abundance of activities here! there's truly an organization for everybody! my problem is that i want to join so many, i don't have time for all of them!

    Greek Life

i am not in a sorority, but my friends involved with greek life, love it! i, personally, appreciate that there is spring rush because it is much easier to get to know people and then rush rather than being thrown into it first thing and having to pledge while getting adjusted during first semester. it provides an automatic supportive community for people who want to stay busy and do a variety of fun things!

    Campus Safety

even with the waco robberies, i feel very safe on-campus. i ride a bike, so that helps at night, but the police are always around and the golf-cart is available to give people rides at night.

its a beautiful campus that has tons of spots to sit outside and study. the people are always friendly with professors that try to help you in any way possible. everyone is willing to talk to strangers and making friends has never been easier.

    Tips for prospective students

try to join at least one club or activity. you will never believe how many people you will meet and how helpful it could come in the future. baylor also has tons of clubs so there is sure to be some type of club that everyone is interested in.

    Academic Rigor

it could be worse, but for the most part, especially in classes for your major, you will spend a lot of time in the library studying. there are some really easy blow off classes, but most of the classes you really do have to spend 2-3 hours for every hour in class studying if you want the a or b.

    Dorm Life

i had an excellent roommate and from what i've heard from friends, its seems rare that anyone has roommate issues. baylor also keeps the dorm restrooms and showers really clean. everyday you will see the janitors in the dorms cleaning and vacuuming.

    Food and Dining

some people love the cafeteria food, i found it hit and miss. i generally just ate in my dorm room, but it is nice to go to one of the four cafeterias around campus. sometimes it was really good but other times nothing seems done well.

    What to do for fun

everyone is different on what they see as fun, but baylor has tons of activities going on all the time. there is usually a play being performed by the theater department, or a choir concert. my favorite activity is heading to the slc (student life center) and rock climbing for several hours.

    Bang for the buck

it is a really expensive school, but it is private and does have lots of extras that most schools don't seem to have. baylor has computers and private rooms you can borrow in order to study and do school work. the dorms are nice and kept up. the classrooms have lots of room and top notch technology. the campus is beautiful and kept up, and now there's talk of new buildings and a new stadium to be built.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many different types of clubs and activities that anyone could find a club for at least one of their likes. most are relatively inexpensive and you definitely see where your money for the club is being used.

    Campus Safety

you can barely go 5 minutes without seeing a cop somewhere. baylor has its own private police line for anything that happens on campus and they are really good at sending out alert for anything you need to be aware of like a robbery or tornado warning.

Baylor is a wonderful place to call home. There are great professors who truly want their students to learn and excel and a diverse student body. Baylor is a great community to live and study in.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to the people in the admissions office. They can help you with the questions you have. Visit the campus and make sure it is the right place for you; sometimes something just clicks and you know this is where you are supposed to be. Apply when the applications open, but make sure you have everything you need.

    Academic Rigor

I am a student in the Honors College and taking upper-level classes, so my classes are a little more rigorous than the normal freshmen classes. But do not let that fool you. Study and go to class or you will be surprised at your grades at the end of the semester.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is okay. I've seen better and I've seen worse. You only have to live on campus one year; however I will be living here for three. So I guess that proves it is not horrible. Living in the dorms can be fun and entertaining. It is also convenient to live so close to your classes, especially when you are running late. Parking is a nightmare for the students who live off-campus.

    Food and Dining

There are four dining halls on campus, as well as several restaurants in the Student Union Building and the science building. The food is by no means gourmet, but it is pretty good...most days. I personally prefer to stay away from Penland dining hall. Memorial has a pretty large selection from home cooking-style meals to stir-fry. Brooks has great burgers and Collins has amazing flying saucers (a large tortilla stuffed with your choice of meat, cheese, beans, rice, and other stuff and folded up and put on a grill-like thing).

    What to do for fun

Sports games are always fun to attend. Campus golf (golf with a golf club and tennis ball) is fun to play around campus at night. Common Grounds is right off campus and has concerts pretty often.

Baylor is a place to grow spiritually, intellectually, personally, and emotionally. Baylor is a place to cultivate your mind and open your heart to a world of new experiences. Baylor is home.

    Tips for prospective students

1.) Apply for scholarships like crazy!
Considering Baylor tuition is $50,000 per academic school year and probably going to get more expensive than that, scholarships are a MUST!
    2.) Tour the campus.
Baylor is absolutely beautiful, definitely something to see. Plus the tour guides are always nice and helpful and Baylor hosts special tour weekends as well.
    3) Go to Line Camp!
This is where you will meet new friends, get a real feel for if you are ready to be a Baylor Bear, get insight to Baylor history and more.
    4.) Apply for scholarships!
I know I already said this, but it is definitely worth mentioning twice.
    5) If you have time stop by Common Grounds coffee shop or Harts-n-crafts on 8th street. They are definitely off campus staples

    Academic Rigor

When you are going to a prestigious and well - respected school, odds are the classes are going to be tough. If you are willing to put in the work and attend class you should do well. Baylor is filled with wonderful teachers who really do want to help you (and of course the few that are not so wonderful) all you have to do is ask.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are small and some of them don't allow you to move the furniture around. There are many living options for freshman girls and boys and a few co-ed options ( Kokernot, Brooks College). With the co-ed options, you have to be in an extra program.

    Food and Dining

Tuesdays and Thursdays you would be crazy to not go to Brooks Dining Hall and get a Brooks Burger. They are amazing!! I think its mostly because of the bread they use, which they only use on Tuesdays and Thursdays as of now. Collins' Flying Saucers are talked about and everyone enjoys those (there is always a line for them, no matter when you go). Memorial has some nice stir fry and lots of other options, they like to say they house the real food on campus. Penland (aka Penisland or P-nasties) is the only dining hall open on weekends, late at night ( 9-1 am monday thru thursdays), and holidays. The alternate names should give you an insight to how the food is, but I will give props to their grilled cheese sandwiches and ice cream bar.

    What to do for fun

Waco is pretty small, and pretty dead for the most part. But Baylor is always sponsoring this or hosting that. You can definitely find something to do and be a part of.

    Bang for the buck

While, yes, Baylor is EXTREMELY expensive, there are so many opportunities happening here that happen NO WHERE else. Being a Baylor Bear is truly a once in a lifetime experience no matter the price.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

1.)Christmas on 5th Street. - who doesn't want a picture with Santa? Who doesn't want to ride on a horse drawn carriage?
2.) Homecoming - biggest college parade and we have a Ferris wheel and a bonfire
    3.)

Great for these types of students

National Merit Scholars (full ride- duh!), anyone who can handle rigorous academic schedules, determined students, Christians, Religion majors, Pre-Law students, Pre-Med students, and Business Majors.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many ways to get plugged into all that is Baylor University. The long list of clubs is crazy and definitely worth looking into.

    Greek Life

There are no Greek houses, so if that's something you must have Baylor isn't for you. There is a Pan-Hellenic building with offices for the 8 Pan-Hellenic sororities here (Tri Delt, Zeta, AChiO, ADPi, ChiO, Theta, Kappa, and Pi Phi.) Seven of the Divine Nine National Pan-Hellenic Sororities (AKA, Deltas, Zetas) and Fraternities (Alphas, Sigmas, Omegas, Kappas) are present at Baylor. All 12 of the Inter-Fraternal Council is here. There are three local Baylor organizations (KXA- women, KOT - men, and Phi Chi - men), and four Independent organizations (Phi Lamb, DKD, BYX, and BKG). Greek life is an excellent way to get plugged into Baylor, but not a must. You can definitely still meet people if you are not affiliated with a Greek organization.

    Campus Safety

Baylor Police have partnered with Waco PD to try and make campus the safest part of Waco. There have been a few robberies and assaults around the campus area this year but none on campus. Only two people involved in those incidents were actual Baylor students.

I have learned so much in my three semesters at Baylor than everything I learned in my four years of high school. In all honesty, Baylor's curriculum is not easy, but if you are a hard worker and have high aspirations, success is attainable. I am a health science studies major with a pre-medicine concentration, and I must say that the professors that I have taken have to be the most competent professors in the nation. Choose wisely though when you choose your classes because the professors you choose can have a huge effect of your grades.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Baylor. The first thing you recognize as soon as you get here is how warm and welcoming the people are. EVERYONE IS FRIENDLY! The people are so friendly that it gets annoying after awhile but it makes it that much easier to make friends. Also, there's always some type of event happening at Baylor whether it's a food fight event at the university park or the famous Day of the Bear Parade, Baylor is going to give you the time of your life! Behind all the excitement, there is always time to study. There are going to be some dead weekends where there is nothing to do but study and those types of weekends are needed. All in all, if your looking for a school that will bombard you with good times but at the same time keep you and your studies in check, Baylor is the school for you.

    Bang for the buck

We all know that Baylor is a private university. As with all private institutions, since they are privately funded, the tuition is higher than public institutions. Fortunately, the value of a Baylor education and all the benefits that come with a Baylor is so worth the price! Also, Baylor offers tons of financial aid and scholarships. In fact, for the sixth year in a row, The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012 has named Baylor a “best buy, one of just 43 colleges and universities in the country to be so honored.

    Tips for prospective students

One of the biggest tips I was given before I entered college was to start off strong. Your cumulative GPA during your freshman year is like brand new clay and can be easily affected by a bad semester. If you get a 3.9 the first semester then get a 2.5 the next semester, your GPA will be around a 3.3. After a couple of semesters, your cumulative GPA won't change that much due to a bad semester because it has the support of the past GPA's and it's a lot more sturdy. Also, it is important to stay healthy and incorporate important food habits. If you are trying to beat the Freshman 15 than you cannot be a sedentary student. One of the things I've learned is that even a little exercise is better than nothing. Everyone can take out thirty minutes to workout and the benefits are amazing. Finally, DO NOT DRINK THE WATER! The city of Waco has poor quality water. There were several instances where Baylor sent us an email warning us about some boiler problem and that we should abstain from drinking the water. I made that mistake my first night at Baylor and had THE WORST stomach ache. Pepto bismol was not even working. It was serious. Do not drink the water.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is a Baptist university established on Baptist values. Baylor would be an amazing fit for people with a Christian background. There is a mandatory chapel that you must go to twice a week for a year and if you are not into all that stuff you are going to hate it. Also, Baylor is a school full of people person's. If you do not like people, or if you do not like small talk and people asking you how your day is and stuff like that, then Baylor is not the school for you. Ultimately, Baylor is an amazing school for the dedicated and open-hearted student.

Baylor offers a myriad of different courses encompassing humanities and sciences with an array of sub disciplines and plenty of research opportunities to become involved in. With the exception of a few general classes, most classes are small with less than 30 students. You get to know your classmates very well so it is never awkward or difficult to borrow notes or form study groups. Baylor classes facilitate student faculty interaction and group discussion, meaning you learn much more than you would ordinarily. I remember taking a seminar class in environmental health and I learned so much about the subject because the class was very interactive. Most classes have participation grades based on your involvement which are an incentive for students to become more interactive. The academics are rigorous and challenging but nothing that hard work cannot accomplish. There are interdisciplinary programs such as BIC(Baylor interdisciplinary core), and University Scholars that allow you to explore multiple disciplines if you are keen on gaining an overall knowledge of many subjects. Great value for money.

    Am enjoying being here

I am an international student from Asia and my initial doubts of whether I would fit in at Baylor were dispelled as soon as I arrived. The community was very welcoming and hospitable, and were genuinely interested in getting to know you. I too became more sociable and friendly as a result of this and I am always eager to meet and welcome new students.

The campus is beautiful with great weather all year round. The city of Waco is small enough to keep you occupied but not large enough to where you find yourself going out on every school night. Besides, there are plenty of on campus events and activities to participate in. There is a broad selection of clubs, organizations, and sports to fit anyone's interests. The Greek Life at Baylor is quite vibrant and active with many events hosted each week. You meet a lot of new people from attending these events and becoming involved, and pretty soon you will see a lot of familiar faces on your way to class.

There are a number of sporting events that fans can attend and usually the whole school rallies at the home games to support the players and show our school spirit. Baylor sports teams are among the top teams of the nation. Our women's basketball team is ranked number one while the men's basketball team is ranked sixth. Also, the 2011 winner of the Heisman trophy is Baylor's very own Robert Griffin III !

In spite of all of this, the atmosphere at Baylor is also very study friendly and academically oriented so there is no fear of being absorbed and completely distracted by the social aspect of college.

Tip: Go visit the marina and take a kayak out to the lake.(The most relaxing thing ever)

Baylor is very pricey and can be extremely hard to afford. However, Baylor offers a lot of financial aid and merit based awards which ensure that no deserving student is denied an opportunity at a Baylor education. There are also tons of free services and events. Baylor also rewards you for your performance with athletic scholarships, departmental scholarships and other forms of aid. If you are a motivated, high achieving student you have nothing to worry about for you will be taken care of.

I do feel however that there could be more financial aid for average students in the form of more need based scholarships. However, the new president has begun a scholarship initiative which plans to raise a lot more money for scholarships and I am sure that will change in the near future. I learned the value of an education after I came to Baylor and became a lot more responsible with my money.

    Tips for prospective students

Keep an open mind when choosing your college and evaluate the pros and cons. Every school will have its drawbacks but what matters is how much benefit you feel you can reap from it and the quality of the education you obtain. So take a few campus tours before making your decision and do a lot of online research including reading reviews such as this.
If you have a above average academic record in highs school you are likely to get accepted to Baylor and offered a decent scholarship as well. Word of caution, Baylor is no place for slackers and expects high academic standards from its students. Do not let this fact discourage you from applying. There are an abundance of resources(free tutoring and academic mentoring for example) that students can utilize to improve their grades and they really do work.
Explore your options and decide on where to live and what programs to enroll in. I am a student of the Baylor honors program which is a great program which means I have a few course requirements I have to meet and a few honors classes I have to take which are similar to the regular classes but often with a more in-depth study of material and extra homework. I like the challenge it offers and it stimulates me to learn more. There are engaged learning groups that offer an opportunity to live with students from other nationalities and backgrounds which is a refreshing change to the conventional roommate living experience. You get the opportunity to learn about different languages and cultures which is a very rewarding experience. Baylor consists of a majority of Baptist Christian students, yet there is still quite a bit of diversity on campus. There are international students representing over 70 countries!
Be aware that alcohol and drug abuse are serious issues on campus. They are almost unheard of but if you do it and are caught the consequences can be very severe. Also be prepared to take the required religion classes and chapel. These are not too bad. Chapel provide a nice respite in the middle of the day and religion classes are not too bad and you learn a lot from them.

Great for these types of students

Baylor is a great place for academically oriented, motivated individuals who are willing to work hard to achieve their goals and ambitions. It is also a great place to experience Christian centered education. I did not consider myself a strict Christian before Baylor but I feel I have grown a lot as a person since my freshman year as a result of integrating with the community and church.

There are tons of opportunities to build up your resume and there is no shortage of volunteer opportunities. I chose Baylor primarily for the great premedical program they have which will undoubtedly propel you to medical school if you earn the grades. Also, Baylor College of Medicine is one of the highest ranked medical schools in the nation. So premed fellows, work hard from day one become involved in organizations, shadow, volunteer, do research and build up that resume. Its a slow but steady and fun process with a big payoff at the end. I personally feel that Baylor is one of the best places that allows you to properly balance your social and academic life without it negatively impacting you.

If you long for a sense of community and are far away from home Baylor is the place for you. Trust me, I'm an international student and I feel I could stay at Baylor for the whole four years without ever missing my family too badly..

The professors at Baylor really care about their subjects and their students. All of my professors, past or present, recognize me and stop to ask how I'm doing. Even the large lecture classes are interesting and fun. I love my labs, as they give me the chance to learn the science outside Baylor in a real-world setting, and we are encouraged to participate in studies that are a lot of fun.

Living off campus is great this year, because even though living in the dorms was a great experience, I LOVE having a room (and a bathroom!) to myself. The BUS system goes right by my apartment and the grocery store nearby, and goes all over campus. Pretty much everywhere is within walking distance, and campus patrols keep things safe after dark.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor was extremely generous in providing scholarships (both need and merit based) for me both years I've been here. My freshman year I had to pay for room and books, but this year I was given a grant that actually paid all my expenses. Cost of living is pretty low in Waco, and a little money can go a long way. I can definitely say that the reason I can continue attending Baylor is because of the financial aid they provided.

    Tips for prospective students

Even though pretty much everything on campus is within walking distance, a bike is a must-have. There are bike racks all over campus, and it is much easier than having to find parking on campus, not to mention the money it saves on gas!

Great for these types of students

Baylor is a great school for getting people out of their shells. There are tons of events planned fall semester to help students meet and make friends, and students are encouraged to meet with their professors out of the classroom--either during office hours, in the dining halls on campus, or at major-specific meet-and-greets. Steppin' Out is a great program that encourages students to help out the Waco community, and Diadeloso (a campus-wide holiday) is a great way to blow off steam right before finals!!

I'm a student in a Baylor Interdisciplinary Program (BIC). It's a program under the Honors College. Unless you're also in Honors, you don't have to take it for Honors. This means that as long as your GPA is in good standing with the University, you're alright! The BIC program is not your general education. Forget english, history, math and science. You'll be taking Rhetoric, World Cultures, Social World and Natural World. This program is VERY reading intensive, but you will learn. And that's what we're here to do!

Faith is a very big thing here at Baylor. As a non-Christian who is open to all religions, it takes some adjusting. The people are nice, and you can expect lots of help-open doors and plenty of thank yous. That's a great bonus to the small town feel Waco has.

    Bang for the buck

It's a private university, what do you expect? However, BU is big on financial aid. Do well on your SAT and ACT and you may get the Provost Gold scholarship, which amounts to $8k per SEMESTER. That is huge!

For one thing, if you love to read, join BIC. If you meet with Dr. Nogalski, let her know you read my review here on Cappex! :)

The science classes are certainly challenging, but the information you learn is applicable to everyday life. While required chapel and religion classes seem difficult, the classes are fairly easy and very informative to those of all faiths.

The Christian atmosphere, friendliness, and teacher involvement make Baylor very enjoyable. With a religious oriented school, it is easier to discuss many different faiths with others. The student body is incredibly friendly and helpful when you get lost during your first week of class, (don't worry! it happens to everyone at first!). I believe that the teachers at Baylor are very approachable during office hours and are always glad to explain anything giving you trouble.

The Paul Foster success center is a free tutoring center on campus. All beginner level classes have at least one tutor and you can see them once before a test or once a week, however often you need them. The gym and beautiful campus also add a lot of value to your time at Baylor.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and get involved early! There are so many great student organizations that you should shop around before you join a couple. Don't be afraid of going to information nights alone, you will meet new people and you will probably find at least one person you already know!
Also, DON'T SKIP CHAPEL! If you miss more than about 11 times you have to retake it, which is no fun!

Great for these types of students

Baylor is a great school with really friendly people/professors. They have many school-wide clubs and organizations that will fit your interests and help you find people that are fascinated by the same things as you. The professors are usually good with help and really love to know their students and help them succeed in their classes. They always provide office hours for you to come in with any questions and their main goal is to help you get that degree. All in all, it’s a great school!

    Tips for prospective students

Keep grades first. It’s easy to fall behind in classes because professors are usually teaching many students in a class, and have to keep to the lesson plan. By procrastinating, you’ll fall behind quick, and it will be hard to catch up. Have fun though. Studying is very important, but meet up with your friends every once in a while, and have dinner together. Friendships made in college tend to last a long time.

I am going into my 3rd year at Baylor University. So far I love the school. I came from a title 1 high school so many thought that I would not be prepared for or succeed at Baylor University, however, I currently have a 3.67 GPA as a Biology Major and I am doing just fine. I participate in all intramural sports with friends. Participating in intramurals is a good way to stay in shape, hang out with friends, and play sports in college (if you weren’t able to make it on the D1 team). I had some religious background before coming to this school, but after having been here for a while I have grown closer to Him. Baylor Students are required to (although I see it as a privilege) take a chapel class and various religious courses. Besides being so expensive, I recommend this school to all students who want to grow closer to God while getting the best possible education out there. A Baylor degree looks great on ANY resume. To avoid removing this school off of your list because of financial reasons, start applying for scholarships NOW. Keep applying throughout your college career as well.
To have a successful career at Baylor, I recommend studying first and playing later. Many students have a hard time balancing their social life while maintaining good grades. However, I have found that if you take care of your studies first, the social aspect of college will come.

It has been a privilege to attend Baylor University. I have met people from all over the country that have shown me there is more to life than a small town. There are students of many ethnic backgrounds and we have all come together at Baylor University with a common purpose; Teaching students to succeed academically for their future in a Christian way. I have experienced the world at Baylor University, and I wouldn't change any of the experiences I have had.

Baylor University is a private, Baptist institution. Tuition is very high and sometimes seems near impossible to pay for. Baylor provides students with scholarship opportunities based on their high school transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. I have had to get a lot of extra help, including other scholarships and student loans. It has been tough, but I am managing because of the value of the education I will be receiving upon graduation.

    Tips for prospective students

Come into Baylor with an open mind. Any opportunity you are faced with, you must know that it won't always be everything you expected. My first semester at Baylor was miserable because I was unsure of what I wanted to do, and it was the first time I was responsible for myself and my actions. Baylor has its rules, but that comes along with any University. You are going to come across students and teachers with different ideas and opinions from yourself, but you have to learn to cope with what comes your way. Teachers are willing to help, there are organizations all over campus to get involved in, and there are always going to be other students that will offer a helping hand if you need it. Attend Line Camp, and attend Welcome Week. You just have to find your place in the line and you will love Baylor.

Great for these types of students

Baylor University is perfect for student looking for a degree from a prestigious school that offers many other opportunities besides an education. Baylor is strong in its faith and good for students who are strong in their faith as well. If you're not a Baptist, Baylor is also very accepting of other religions and is never quick to judge anyone. Baylor is an all around good school that is potentially right for anyone.

Baylor is rather expensive unless you're on scholarship. National Merit Scholars gets the best deal- full tuition if you maintain a 3.5 GPA.

    Tips for prospective students

    1) Apply early!

    2) Visit campus.

    3) Take AP or dual-credit classes. They allow you to bypass some of the larger lecture classes.

    4) Research extracurricular activities. From swing dancing to Bible studies to honor societies to Greek life, there's something for everyone!

Great for these types of students

Because it is a Baptist school, those with a religious background will probably feel more at home, but I know many people who aren't and still love Baylor! Their engineering program is up-and-coming and small enough that you can really get to know your professors!

Baylor University has been such a blessing to me in terms of gaining knowledge and growing not only mentally and emotionally, but spiritually as well. I am a Business major and have been submerged into a whole new world. I feel that I have learned a lot already and I am only halfway through my journey. Baylor has an excellent Business program, which I would highly recommend. The connections are incredible and you are given all the tools you need for success in the future. The wonderful faculty will know you by your NAME. You are not just a number like in many public universities. The classroom settings are more intimate, which gives a feeling of comfort to many students. I am never afraid to go to any of my professors' office to ask questions or to even have a little chit chat session. They really care about you and will go out of their way to make sure that you understand the material. Because of these great relationships, I have been able to expand my knowledge substantially.

    Am enjoying being here

A few minutes after arriving at Baylor University for my campus visit, I was sold. Spring had just sprung and the campus was blooming with flowers. It was a stunning sight. I felt comfortable and instantly let my guard down. Its quite obvious that the Baylor bubble is a caring Christian community, which I think is wonderful. You really get the sense of family around here because everyone cares about each other. I have met some of my best friends here and I know they will stick around in my future. There may not be so many hip places in Waco, but you’ll definitely find things to do. Downtown Waco is getting better after a recent expansion. There are many great restaurants to choose from and the nice thing about Waco is that since its pretty small, everything is close together. (great way to save gas!) Also, Cameron Park isn’t too far from campus. Its a great place for a walk, especially after stressful finals.

    Bang for the buck

Its not a secret that Baylor is on the expensive side. This may hinder the decisions of many prospective students that may be interested. With that being said, I believe that Baylor is worth every penny. You will have a great foundation at this university that will help you become successful in the long run. Once again, its all about the networking and Baylor will give you many incredible connections. You will be given many opportunities to meet successful leaders in organized meetings and events that are created with the sole purpose of benefiting the students. Education is at its finest at Baylor University. Perhaps that could even be why some people refer to Baylor University as the Harvard of the South.

    Tips for prospective students

College is honestly what you make of it. If you want to have a great time and look back on many wonderful memories, then I would advise you to join a group or an organization in order to get more involved, kinda like high school. There are many organizations to choose from. If a sorority or fraternity isn’t your thing, then you could choose a specific club, pertaining to your Major or even a hobby. Not only will you keep yourself busy, but you will gain many beneficial connections. You will learn that networking is the key to being successful in the future. Be sure to find balance in college. Its okay to have a good time with your friends on the weekends, but remember that school should be your number one priority. Many will unfortunately learn that the hard way.

Great for these types of students

Baylor University is a school for ambitious, goal-oriented students, who strive for excellence. If you are a hard worker or someone who values and takes great pride in their education, then Baylor should be one of your top choices. You are able to pursue your degree, as well as dreams in a comfortable and laid back environment. You will no doubt have a strong educational foundation after graduating. You will come as students and leave as future leaders with a close emphasis on ethical behavior.

I have never worked so hard in my whole life, but I have learned so much at Baylor this semester. I loved all of my professors, and I'm greatly enjoying the Baylor Interdiciplinary Core (BIC) program that is part of the Honors College.

    Am enjoying being here

I love all the people I have met at Baylor. Over the last 4 months, Baylor has become home, and Baylor nation has become my family! I grew up cheering for the Bears, so I may be a little brainwashed, but I still love it here. There is never a dull moment around campus and more activites than you know what to do with. Waco may seem like a boring city, but because of that, you get close with a lot more people on campus, plus you get creative for things to do, including road trips to Dallas and Austin on the weekends!

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive, but compared to other private universities, it's a lot cheaper. Also, if you have the patience to look for them and apply for them, Baylor has tons of scholarships. I'm paying for less than half of tuition this year because of scholarships that I received mostly from Baylor. Baylor has a high academic standards, and expects its students to meet them.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early! It is so worth it to have your application early so that you hear back as soon as you can from admissions. Take ACT and SAT multiple times to get your best scores because Baylor's scholarships are based on the Super Scores of your tests. Visit campus: Baylor students love trying to convince prospective students to come here, and we want to make you feel as at home here as we do!

Great for these types of students

Who want the excellence of both a great Christian school and a school with high academic standards. Baylor isn't your typical Christian University because it has a very diverse student body-many of whom are not Christians-but also because it isn't a 4 year long church camp. If this is something you are looking for, definitely look into Baylor more!! Sic 'em!

Baylor is full of people who have the same academic goals as you and it is easy to encourage others to stay motivated throughout your years at Baylor.

The community of Baylor University is outstanding. There is a feeling of unity among Baylor's campus that I am positive not all universities experience. The size of Baylor alone makes it a wonderful place to meet new people and build lasting relationships with them. Baylor is full of tradition and pride that has made my time here so far unforgettable.

Although Baylor may seem a bit pricey to some, it really is worth it. Not only are you getting and outstanding education and a degree that will get you to the top, the years you will spend at Baylor will be some of the greatest of your life. The academic environment at Baylor is very conducive to learning. Except for intro classes most classes will have great student to instructor ratios. There are many resources at the disposal of Baylor students to learn not only about the material of the class but about the instructors that teach the classes. Also one of the great things about Baylor is that many of the instructors genuinely care about the students learning as much as possible in their class.

Baylor is a great place to live, learn, and grow. The residence halls are more than accommodating and the food is diverse and tasty. The classes at efficient and interesting. Also there are many organization to join that will help you grow and develop as a person and spiritually.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is great value for the money you pay if you apply yourself. If you set a goal to graduate in four years and work hard to make that a reality. There are many sources of financial aid available to Baylor students in the financial aid office which should assist in many for costs of attendance.

    Tips for prospective students

It is very important to put learning and your studies first. That is why you are at Baylor University. But don't underestimate the importance of extracurricular activities. There is a great and diverse group of people at Baylor. I recommend joining as many organizations and groups as you can and still keep up your grades. You will meet many great people and have lots of fun experiences outside of the classroom at BU.

I absolutely love the challenges that Baylor offers for each student. I came to Baylor University with the intent to learn as much as possible before I take the MCAT my junior year. Not only do I feel prepared for the MCAT, but I also feel like I am ready for the challenges ahead in medical school.

    Am enjoying being here

Baylor has provided the perfect atmosphere for making friends. The campus is spacious, and yet intimate in its setting. I see a lot of the same people each semester in my classes, which has made each change in semester and classes easy and enjoyable. It is also nice to be able to keep my same study groups with good friends every semester.

    Bang for the buck

The campus is beautiful, both on the inside and on the outside. Some buildings are new and impressive such as the Baylor Science Building, and others are riddled with the history of the past, such as Old Main. Combined with the high quality of teachers and classmates, Baylor is worth its weight in gold.

    Tips for prospective students

My advice for future students is to pick a college that offers the degree plan that they desire. Each student should look for a college that can successfully serve as an intermediate between where they currently stand and where they would like to be when they graduate.

Great for these types of students

Baylor University is well known for its science department and for being a great pre-medical school. Other than the sciences though, Baylor also offers most generic degree plans making it an extremely versatile school for a large variety of students.

I have never learned as much as I have in just the past 14 weeks. I am a first semester freshman here at Baylor University, and I have loved every second. My focus in classes is on fashion, due to my fashion merchandising major, and I would have never imagined how much is required with the major. I learn something new everyday, not only in each class, but with new people I meet.

    Am enjoying being here

The christian atmosphere is simply amazing. I enjoy every second of school because I know that the campus is so joyful. You will never come across a frown or a sad day because all students love it here. I love the beautiful campus and adorable bear pit. Common Grounds and Hearts n Crafts are fantastic. The professors, students and staff all enjoy work everyday and it shows through the smiles on their face.

    Bang for the buck

For such a steep price, you really are getting everything you paid for. The writing center, success center and tutoring is all free, well included in tuition. Food really isn't bad at all, besides Penland cafeteria that has the least amount of healthy options. Beautiful campus to visit the mascots in their habitat, country swings hanging from historic trees to study on, large libraries to spend all nighters in...the list can go on.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus before you enroll. Get a feel for the wonderful spirit of Baylor before you commit. When signing up for classes, remember that the required religion and chapel classes are best to get out of the way in you beginning years. Keep track of how many meals you eat in a day because the meals add up over the week and you don't want to be out of your meal plan on Wednesday! Enjoy everyday with a smile because it is a true privilege to belong to such an amazing university.

Great for these types of students

If you choose to keep your morals and values, definitely apply. You will become a stronger individual after going here simply because of the drive and ambition needed to succeed in the elevated education classes. Anyone that has a desire, want or passion for their life can find it and fulfill it here. Dream big and appreciate the knowledge you will learn here. A degree from Baylor is prestigious and looked upon positively, so if you would like a good degree reputation then it should be incentive enough.

To be completely honest, the classes can be extremely challenging. Most professors expect a certain degree of performance on the work they assign, but if you make up your mind to do well then you will. Though it's much more difficult than high school, don't be discouraged, for the curriculum is also very stimulating, fascinating, and thought-provoking!

Baylor campus is home. You feel immediately welcomed by the friendly people and the relaxing atmosphere. The architecture is beautiful and the people in charge take great care in keeping the campus clean. Waco may be a relatively small town, but there is plenty to do for all types of people. Baylor also goes out of their way to make sure students are involved and entertained. Organizations put on many concerts, dances, and events, not to mention Baylor's facilities that serve to keep us busy! Our on-campus bowling alley and Student Life Center complete with rock-climbing wall and indoor pool are just a few examples.

    Bang for the buck

Due to Baylor being a private school, tuition is higher than state universities. However, Baylor offers numerous scholarships based on merit and need that take a huge load off of the financial burden! When all was said and done, I didn't pay much more here than I would have at a state university.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early! Take the SAT as much as you can because Baylor takes the best out of all your scores when deciding on scholarships. Visit campus if possible, because pictures and virtual online tours just don't do it justice. Also, go to Line Camp if possible. It's a great way to make friends and meet many of your fellow students before jumping in to college your freshman year.

Great for these types of students

If you want to grow as a person, not just academically, then this is the place for you. If you want to meet wonderful professors and faculty that challenge and enrich your education, if you want the opportunity to be involved with any number of organizations that fit YOU, and if you want find a college that feels like home, then Baylor is for you.

    Academic Rigor

baylor has an interdisciplinary program and an honors program, both of which i am in. the interdisciplinary classes involve reading, lectures, and class discussions, all of which provide insight and ideas and require deep thought. during high school, i often heard past graduates talk about how their ap classes were harder than their current class. well, this is not the case with baylor. the classes here challenge students like nothing i have ever taken in my high school.

    Am enjoying being here

The people are friendly, and the university has a heavy emphasis on community and service. The traditions are fun to participate in. The dormitories have student leaders you can go to for help or if you just want to talk about something. The local churches have college ministries to participate in. Drugs and alcohol are kept at bay as much as possible. Visitation hours between male and female dormitories are stringent, but otherwise dorms are comfortable and enjoyable to live in.

    Bang for the buck

tuition is high, but the university does offer scholarships. the classes are top-notch, and the student life is wonderful. i have to admit baylor is a little overpriced, but the quality of life here is great.

    Tips for prospective students

do really well in school and on your sats and acts. your class ranking and test score will affect how much money you get on your scholarship. the better you do the better the scholarship. there are also other scholarships that depend on other factors, such as need, race, and major. connect to a church. it is a great way to meet new people who will help you with college and life in general. read your reading assignments! i cannot stress that enough.

Great for these types of students

baylor is great for students who are looking for purpose in life and students who are willing to work hard both in and out of the classroom. although the university is predominantly white, there are a number of minorities studying at the university, and race should not be an issue due to the fact that there are no racist people in the university. at least, i have not met any. baylor is also great for students who are looking for a friendly and close-knit community environment.

    Did learn a lot

The professors at Baylor are outstanding! They knew what they were talking about, and made sure that you knew what they were talking about too. Some of my professors went out of the way to make sure students understood and ENJOYED the material. My classes were challenging, but interesting, which made my educational journey that much better.

    Did enjoy being here

I fully appreciated the Christian atmosphere. It was not subtle, but it was certainly respectful. Even in the religion department I found professors were professional rather than preachy. The teachers, staff, and administrators are all very helpful, and come from a place of love. A sense of family is very much fostered on this campus, all you have to do is let yourself be a part of it. However, don't plan on getting sick in Waco. I unfortunately spent my whole year in and out of the medical office. They are not very helpful, and are also very expensive.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is certainly expensive, and tuition is rising. I had to leave because I could no longer afford it, but I wish with all my heart that I could still attend. If you can make the financial commitment, it is worth the investment. The staff, the academia, and the atmosphere are unparalleled in Texas.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved week one. Take advantage of Baylor's MANY opportunities to get to know your teachers, your campus, and your classmates. There are a lot of students spread out over a large (and beautiful) campus. If you don't put yourself out there in the beginning, finding your place can be even more difficult.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated - the classes are challenging. Any faith - or lack there of. The atmosphere is one of love and acceptance; don't let the Baptist thing hold you back. Volunteers - Waco is one of the poorest cities in the country. There are many service opportunities there while getting a fabulous education. Music students - one of the best music programs in the state, especially for opera/classical. African studies students - they have a fabulous Swahili professor.

Baylor is an amazing university! The professors are very nice and understanding and want to get to know their students. The biggest class I attended had maybe 100 people, and that was for a general science class that everyone had to take. The closer you get to taking classes for your major/minor specifically, the more you will get to know your professors and the more they will mentor you. Do not be afraid to talk to your professors!!

    Did enjoy being here

I absolutely loved going to Baylor! I met some of my best friends in college and have very fond memories of all of our adventures! Living in a small town (being that I am from Houston, Waco is considered pretty small!), you have to get creative! Find as many things to do as possible! It might sound cheesy, but you can visit the Dr Pepper Museum, Cameron Park Zoo, Texas Ranger Museum; you can even drive about 30 minutes and visit The Branch Davidian!

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Baylor is a little pricey, but it is worth it! Whenever I tell people I went to Baylor, they are very impressed! I highly recommend it to any high school junior or senior I meet, if they are interested in college.

    Tips for prospective students

College is definitely a lot harder than high school!! That was a big misconception I had my first semester! I rather go out partying than study, therefore I did not have a high enough GPA to rush a sorority (Baylor rushes in the Spring) because I thought I could study a little and still ace the tests.

Put yourself out there, please do not hide out in your dorm room! There are so many different groups to join at Baylor, you are sure to find SOMETHING you would enjoy!

Just completed my first semester at Baylor. I had completed 41 hours of dual credit courses at my local community college (I was homeschooled so I had the opportunity to take more classes than most dual credit students). Consequently, I took Chemistry, Statistics, Nutrition, and the required Chapel and Religion courses during my first semester. The courses were challenging (much more so than dual credit); however, with the support of my professors, I was able to maintain my 4.0. All but one of my professors were readily accessible by email and/or personally during their office hours. Two of my professors were Teaching Assistants (Chem Lab and Statistics). All of my other professors possessed Ph.D.'s.

    Am enjoying being here

I expected an adjustment period during my first semester away from home. Because of the pressure I placed on myself to maintain a 4.0, I think I missed out on some of the more enjoyable activities on campus. Now that I've completed a semester and have a better idea of what it takes to maintain my grades, I'm going to try to participate in more extracurricular activities including Baylor's deferred rush and possibly sorority life.

    Bang for the buck

Baylor is expensive and I don't qualify for need based aid. However, the school has has generous merit based aid. My SAT scores were acceptable but not outstanding. Because Baylor accepts your highest score from each SAT attempt, I was able to take the SAT three times. By combining my scores, 670 Reading and 560 Math, I qualified for the Provost Gold Scholarship of $32K. With regard to the school and academics, the classrooms and labs are well maintained; the grounds are beautiful; free tutoring is available and easy to obtain if you seek it; the professors, even in freshman and sophomore classes, possess Ph.D.'s; the cafeterias are nicely kept; the food is healthy and better than average. I lived in an older dorm but it was still better than many of the dorms I stayed in at major universities during summer camps. A housekeeper cleans the bathrooms and hall everyday.

    Tips for prospective students

If you plan to attend Baylor and will take the PSAT, designate Baylor as your first choice. If you are a Finalist, you'll earn a full tuition scholarship. If you aren't a National Merit Finalist, take the SAT or ACT as many times as possible before you enter Baylor for the first time and you can earn up to $117,280 for an SAT score of 1500+. As I said before, they will combine your highest score from each attempt to determine your composite score. Only reading and math (not writing) scores are counted towards the 1500. Apply early for the best housing choices. Consider an Engaged Learning Group or one of the other opportunities to meet students and engage one on one with professors. I participated in an ELG and really benefited from the relationships formed and contact with my professors.

Great for these types of students

I consider myself socially and fiscally conservative, but in my dorm I've made great friends from diverse backgrounds. In fact, most of my friends have totally different views than I do, but four of us plan to live together in apartment style housing next year. Students who are serious about academics and prefer a strong sense of community will appreciate Baylor. Although Waco is a small town, Dallas and Austin are only an hour and half away and both offer plenty of entertainment.
