Apply as soon as you can! It is important to meet with an advisor so that he or she can get you on the right track. Be sure to only take on what you can handle. I started out with only taking 4 classes and now I'm ready to take on 5 this semester.

Great for these types of students

BCC is great for students that are still trying to figure out what they want to do with their life. I was on the fence my ehole high school career, and BCC really helped me pinpoint what I love to do, and what I'm best at, which is Writing.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here have a given me a perspective I have never had before, on a whole variety of topics. These teachers are, usually, experts in their field and they really care about their topic. That makes all the difference.

    Am enjoying being here

The Student Government at BCC is amazing. They host events on campus several times a semester, for things like celebrating black history month or even celebrating the holiday season, and they're so much fun. You actually want to be at school and eat, socialize, and play games.

    Bang for the buck

I have learned alot at BCC and every single class I have taken has been worth every cent.

    Am learning a lot

Brevard Community College (BCC) harvest a certain kind of environment that motivates and inspires everyone to learn, even the teachers. The faculty really are knowledgeable and personal; they want to help me learn, as if I am in their best interest. Beside the curriculum, I am learning an array of things about myself and the world around me.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being a student as BCC, whether it is the campuses intimate atmosphere or just the sweet smell of pedagogy, I am always smiling and enjoying the time at school. The positive outlook is contagious, as I am always exchanging smiles with my peers and the faculty ans staff.

    Bang for the buck

BCC is certainly the frugal choice. I chose BCC because it has been rated as the number one Community College in the nation (and because it is fifteen minutes away). I would have gone off to a four-year institution if it were not that I felt comfortable with the high standards of education. I am shocked to find that I can get two years of a four-year degree with the same or better standard of learning for such a fraction of the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Take the College Success Strategies for College and Life class in the beginning; your collegiate future will not be the same. This class gives one an unique outlook on one's life as a student. Other than that, the school gives one a positive attitude that keeps one dedicated and responsible, valuing the investment that one is making for one's future.

Great for these types of students

Every type: parents, night students, returning students, young students, elderly students, and unconventional students.

    Am learning a lot

At Brevard Community College, you can learn a lot to say the least. In high school, learning seemed so tedious and boring because it was common knowledge. Here at BCC, learning means learning, not sitting in class anticipating when the teacher finally says, See you next time!. If you do not understand something, just ask! Every single teacher that I have had always asks the class, Does anyone have any questions?. For the first time it seems these teachers actually want you to learn something and really care about your learning experience. When attending a huge college full of who knows how many people, if you miss something the teacher says, well, too bad. There is a more than good chance, you will never even speak to your teacher, even if you try. I would much rather go through college knowing I learned all I could, instead of knowing I missed too much information.

    Am enjoying being here

I am defiantly enjoying being at BCC. I enjoy knowing that I can freely speak to my teachers about the class. I enjoy knowing that my friends, instead of being far away from me on a huge campus, are right here next to me. I enjoy knowing that I am getting a great education only ten minutes away from me. I enjoy seeing all my friends from high school, here where I am. I enjoy attending BCC.

    Bang for the buck

A person would absolutely obtain their money's worth at BCC. I myself like to take as many classes as I possibly can. For me to take five classes it costs me nothing. The price between a giant university and BCC is very different to say the least. Even if you so desired to go to UCF, going to BCC first allows you to directly transfer to this school. I receive a whole lot more than what I give to BCC.

    Tips for prospective students

When thinking about the future remember your text books. Never buy them from the book store, unless absolutely necessary. Buying books online is a great way to hold onto those dollars. Another topic to think about is to think deeper into your future. When you have finished here at BCC, just remember, you can always transfer to UCF if you want to continue this long and perilous journey of education.

Great for these types of students

If you liked the size of your high school class, BCC would be perfect for you. You will never have to worry about missing something the teacher said or the class being so crowded you can not even think straight. BCC would also be great for the kind of student that does not like to be far away from home. With so many BCC campuses, it would be hard to find a way to live far away from BCC. Other then those options, BCC is really perfect for anybody.

    Am learning a lot

Most of the classes you'll take at BCC are the basic classes you'd take in the first two years of any four-year degree program, so you're not likely to find much that is specific to your desired school of study actually on the path towards your degree. As is the case with most of the freshman and sophomore course load, the classes can be a bit redundant in accordance with your high school curriculum, but it does do a good job of getting you through the classes you'd need anywhere pretty quickly and hassle-free. The classes are often very easy to pass, but as far as actual retention of information goes... don't expect a whole lot.

    Am enjoying being here

Being a community college, BCC doesn't offer many of the same things a traditional college would in that there is no housing offered and the 'college town' environment is nonexistent. The array of students is great in that you may find high school students on campus just as easily as you would middle-aged students, but you will only occasionally run across a student with big ambitions. If this isn't important to you, it isn't a factor, and some of the professors are certainly fantastic and the small-school environment provides for a good experience with them, but there are also the surly group that aspired to greater than teaching at a community college that can occasionally take their passive-aggressive frustration out on their students.

    Bang for the buck

There's no denying that BCC is ridiculously cheap, and the classes aren't bad at all- plus the course catalog is huge, so you're bound to find something you're interested in.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't buy your books at the bookstores on campus- they can be ridiculously pricey and they make you think that it's the only place to buy them. That's not true, just jot down the author's name and the title and the edition and buy them elsewhere- there are loads of good places to get them online and usually you can get a good used one for about half the price of a well-worn one at BCC.

Great for these types of students

Financially strapped students- at $80 a credit for Florida residents, almost anyone can afford tuition.
Students without direction- for those that have no intended major yet but know they want to go to college, BCC allows for an environment to try new things and (hopefully) find your career path.
Less-than-stellar high school students- if your high school transcript isn't what you'd like it to be or you got denied acceptance at your school of choice, BCC is a great place to go to bulk up your resume. Upon graduation from BCC, you are GUARANTEED a spot at a Florida public four-year college, and your application at all schools no longer has to go through the 'first time in college' office, and the office for current students can be more forgiving in their acceptances.

I am currently in the dental hygiene program which is very competitive to get in and can be extremely overwhelming at times. The teachers expect a lot out of their students which is both encouraging and frustrating at times. The teachers go above and beyond with their knowledge that is shared, both in school, at clinic and also with community involvement.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a study partner that way you can both have a support system both in class and outside of school. There are also plenty of resources available to you at school.

The tuition and books are affordable for most students. Most of the instructors are highly educated, very helpful and interested in their students' success. Recommendations from professors are extremely helpful in obtaining scholarship funds.

    Tips for prospective students

Make the effort to attend all lectures and do all assignments in each course. Even if a course is difficult for you, putting in the time and effort needed to learn the material is vital to your success. Learning is a lifelong process and imperative for personal growth. Do not associate with students that attempt to cheat on quizzes, assignments or exams. If a student copies your papers or exams (even if you are unaware at the time) it can hurt you. Don't make the mistake of allowing anyone to cheat off your work. Learn what exactly plagiarism is and don't do it. Be honest, work hard and you'll succeed!

    Academic Rigor

I'm only giving 4 stars because there are some instructors that really want to be liked and they make their courses easier to achieve A's in than they should.

    Food and Dining

AA degree is obtainable in two years or less; most classes are available over the summers also. BCC is a great school for taking prerequisites for nursing or medical school.

    Clubs and Activities

There are alot of opportunities on each campus for involvement in numerous clubs and new clubs are formed frequently. All ideas are considered and student government is very active.

    Campus Safety

Great security on each campus. Officers are very friendly and willing to help whenever called upon. It is a great feeling to know they are there after the night classes are let out. Always present in the parking lots and around campus and always accessible by phone.

I believe Brevard Community college would get a 10 out of 10 rating. It has great professors, classes, easy access to your professors, convenient, and less expensive than universities. I loved going here and would recommend it to anyone to take their general education classes at Brevard Community college.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for prospective students would be that Brevard Community is not just a breeze in and out of school. You do have to work to earn your degree or certificate. Don't buy the textbook until you have checked with your professor to see if you actually need it or if you may use an older version of the text. Some teachers do not always use the book or even will let you use an older version. Don't knock Brevard Community college. Just because it isn't a big university doesn't mean you are not getting the right education you need to move on in life. Last but not least, have fun while you are there! Get involved, get to know people, get to know your teachers, and make make new friends!

    Academic Rigor

Everyone think Brevard Community college is just an easy school to pass your classes and just do the bare minimum on, but it is not. You have to do your homework, go to class, stay alert, take notes, be on time, and be prepared for classes just like at any other community college or university. The only difference academic wise between Brevard Community college and universities is that the classes are extremely smaller and it is easier to get help from your professor. I love the way Brevard Community college classes are set up. I feel like my voice can be heard in a class.

    Dorm Life

Brevard Community college does not really offer dorm life for students because there are 4 different campuses to choose from. There are cheap apartments and such around the campuses that are available but there really isn't any set dorms for students to live in.

    Food and Dining

All of my classes are basically at the Titusville Brevard Community college campus and there is a great family owned cafe inside our student services building. It has great food and very cheerful people who work there. The Cocoa campus also has a good variety of food to choose from. Brevard Community college does many events where they hand out free food which is great for us students who are on have a low income!

    What to do for fun

Brevard Community college offers many different activities to do for fun. They are always having events going on for different clubs. Each event usually has music, food, games, prizes, some sort of bounce house, and give aways! It is always fun to come to class or walk back from class and hear the music and see the fun stuff going on around my campus.

    Bang for the buck

At Brevard Community college the cost is only around $106 per credit hour. This I am sure is half of what it costs per credit hour at a university. On top of it being all around cheaper, it is easier to get one on one time with your professors. At Brevard Community college, the class sizes rarely exceed 40 people. Therefore it makes it quite easy for a student to get the help and attention they may need to pass the class.

Great for these types of students

Brevard Community college is great for students who do not have the money to move away and can't afford the high prices of the university. It is very convenient, fun, and still gives each student the same education as if they were at a university.

    Clubs and Activities

Brevard Community college has so many clubs it is hard to say them all. I am currently a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society which is our honors club at Brevard Community college. There is also SGA and many many other clubs. The great thing about BCC is that if you would like to start your own club that is possible. All you have to do is start one! It is just that simple.

    Greek Life

Brevard Community college does not have fraternities or sororities like universities do.

    Campus Safety

Brevard Community college has campus police 24/7 along with cameras. The campuses are very safe and I don't feel unsafe ever. There is always more than one security officer on duty at a time which also aides in the help of making it a more secure campus.

bcc is an excellent school for students who can't quite get the money for the high priced tuitions of universities. bcc is also a good place for those who don't know what it is they want to do yet to get started on finding a path. i would recommend bcc to any one.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you study and always ask the teacher to explain things you don't understand. also if you are taking a course with a teacher that you just cannot learn from make sure you switch out to a different teacher as soon as possible. if you pester the guidance counselors enough they will switch you.

    Academic Rigor

the overall difficulties of the classes largely depend on the student. if you focus and do what you need to then they are fairly easy. if you don't pay attention and slack off then you will find yourself in some difficult classes. the only thing though is that the teachers for some reason have an uncanny knack for assigning due dates of major papers and projects on the same day or week.

    Dorm Life

no dorms are available to bcc so don't even ask about the dorms.

    Food and Dining

they have one on campus restaurant but it is actually a pretty good place to eat. i recommend their subs, they might be a little bit more expensive than subway but you won't be hungry after just half a sub.

    What to do for fun

there will actually be some on campus activities that they do. they will have a welcome day where they have a live dj on the school grounds, food, shirts, things like that. there are some movie nights towards the days of final exams. so they typically will have some things planned to do on certain days, you just have to keep any eye out.

    Bang for the buck

    Tips for prospective students

I chose to go to a Community College instead of a University because not only could I not afford to leave home yet, but I felt that I wasn't ready to leave the nest yet. Everyone that went off to the Universities laughed at me for staying, but I got the last laugh when they failed all of their classes due to not being able to balance partying with school work. Going to a Community College isn't something that you should ever feel ashamed of because in some circumstances, it's the smartest thing to do. Now you will have an Associates degree , be able to go to any Florida University of your choice, and GUARANTEED admission while your friends will only be halfway done with school. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Honors Program at Brevard Community College. The instructors would challenge you to think outside the box and to know more than just the data one is required to regurgitate in order to pass a basic class. Several of my traditional aademic classes such as statistics and environmental science challenged me to maintain high standards and to push to do honor quality work in all my classes because it made all my classes more nejoyable. Being prepared for class gave me the opportunity to walk away learning more then what I would have learned if I only did the minimum requirement to pass.

    Did enjoy being here

BCC is a friendly and open environment that encourages higher learning. The only downside is that it is not the same as University experience due to people commuting from campus to campus and high school dual enrollment adding a different element to the school's social formula. Student Government attempts to involve all students as a community but when you only go to class and then leave, you are likely to miss some of the activities on campus. If you find a niche and become involved you will find many great people alongside you.

    Bang for the buck

Despite the cuts in Bright Futures over the last few years, BCC was still affordable for me. I got a comparably sufficient education at BCC with various professors and saved thousands! I enjoyed having smaller classes too; I do not remember having a class larger than 40 people, and some classes were packed almost to that amount only because the Bright Futures Scholarship cuts required many students to change enrollments from universities to BCC in order to be able to afford any kind of college education. Having such an institution available in my own community is a blessing and a great opportunity to participate in - I am proud to be a BCC alumni with an Honors AA!

    Tips for prospective students

Check in every semester with your guidance counselor to keep all degree requiremts properly approached and satisfied as you study at BCC. Always check your web account/profile to be updated on current events, class activities/grades, and register as soon as possible for classes so you can get what you want each semester. Map out your classes at BCC so you can make sure you take everything you need as efficiently as possible, especially if a class you need is only offered seasonally.

Great for these types of students

Brevard county high school students interested in sampling college before going away to school; high school students interested in saving money and getting a head start in general education college courses; High school graduates who cannot yet afford/are not ready to go away to university just yet - once you have your AA no one can take it away from you or say you haven't succeeded past a high school education!
BCC is also great for individuals returning to college; BCC has many different programs and welcomes people returning to college to gain new skills or update current ones for better success in the future.

Learning different things at BCC will go as far as you are willing to go. I have mainly attended the Palm Bay campus but also Cocoa. The teachers to me are pretty good. A lot of teachers will give you busy work and make you feel like your still in high school. I would recommend going on to ratemyprofessor.com for a list of most teachers in the school, and read reviews about them from past students (since in my opinion, how much you learn also depends on a good teacher). If you wish to get the most out of your class, expect to have a good amount of homework and if applicable, essay writing. I also took the EMT program and squeezed everything into 5 months, so if you are doing a short program, you will definitely want to put a good effort forth and try to learn as much as you can.

    Am enjoying being here

I don't mind being on the campus but have had enough experiences with rude staff and people who are clueless about everything that I'm much happier off campus. I'm the kind of guy that just shows up to his class so he can get his credit, and leave right away when it's over. Just the overall atmosphere of being around people (and people from high school) isn't the greatest in my opinion if you are trying to start a new life. I don't mind being on campus so much unless I have something to work out with the office. (Don't expect any help from guidance counselors, admissions or financial aid, they are clueless most of the time). Overall, the atmosphere is okay but I give it 2/5 stars.

    Bang for the buck

One thing I will admit is that you do save money going to BCC. Because I don't really care for BCC, I expressed in taking my Paramedic program through Keiser University, only to find that prices are much higher going to any other college. Do NOT buy your textbooks from the book store. They are the biggest rip off and will do anything to get your money. All colleges are like this though. I highly recommend buying yours offline. If you are interested in selling your books at the end of the semester, DO NOT sell them back to the bookstore. I paid 200 dollars for my EMT book, and one of my classmates was offered $3 if he sold it back to them. If you do research on the book your trying to sell, you will succeed. I have successfully sold all of my books online ranging from $15-60. But if the prices of classes is what you are concerned about, the price is decent. Make sure you know what you want to take though, because they are still a few hundred dollars.

    Tips for prospective students

As mentioned in the above box, DON'T buy or sell your books at the bookstore. They advertise rental books now, but I went in to rent a common psychology 1 book, and they said it's not available for rent. They will laugh at you if you ask for a used book (because they want your $$$). Prices at the cafeteria aren't the best either, so bring your own lunch unless money isn't a problem). Even though I'm bringing up all of these issues with BCC, these things are a problem at all colleges. Go to ratemyprofessor.com and find BCC and you will be able to find reviews on most teachers there written by their past students. This has helped me greatly in finding a good teacher. Don't expect any help from any of the administration (not just Palm Bay, all of the campuses are clueless). Decide what you are interested in doing, and look at which campus offers it. Most likely, Palm Bay or Titusville do not offer it (almost everything is at Cocoa.)

Great for these types of students

BCC is great for students who like to be social. It's not the greatest for a lone student like me, because almost everyone sitting down or hanging around is with other people. There are a lot of places to lounge around and drink some coffee, and just relax. I just get in, attend my class and get out of there as fast as I can to avoid confronting staff or a student I don't want to remember from high school. If you are like this, you won't enjoy it so much. As far as I can tell, there are a lot of clubs and things to do while being a student. You'll get access to a school e-mail account, the library and the computers, and other things. There is a small gym at the Palm Bay campus, and the larger campuses such as Cocoa have larger facilities such as a Planetarium and a Swimming Pool. You can also take little courses just for your own enrichment which I think is pretty cool. BCC is good for students who also want to save some money.
