    Am learning a lot

For the most part, all of the classes are small enough that the professor knows your name and is able to pay more attention to the needs of the students. Because of this, it is much easier to learn more and to understand the topic without having to rush through anything. As long as you stay focused, I feel that the overall workload will never reach critical mass.

    Am enjoying being here

For someone originally from the Indianapolis area, it must be said there are not too many attractions or exotic places to see around the campus or the outside area. The campus is nice and calm although some of the buildings and the dormitory halls could use an update. There are a few places that are unique to the area (IMA, NCAA Hall of Champions, Children's Museum).

    Bang for the buck

If you consider the amount of money you pay and what to take from Butler, (Competitive academics and national recognition), then you are getting quite a bang for the buck. Butler provides large amounts of financial aid.

    Tips for prospective students

The best way to leave an impression on Butler University is to show that you are well rounded, have a solid academic history, and that you have activities outside of school.

Great for these types of students

Butler University is the perfect place for people looking to stay in the Midwest and for those students looking for a small school that has small classes and solid academics.

I'm in some pretty intense classes but the all of my professors are really good at explaining the concepts. Almost all classes except for chemistry and biology lectures have under 30 students. With this, the professors can answer all my questions so I make sure I fully understand. Also, it is really easy to catch the professors in their office or even sometimes just around campus for any other questions.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is exceptionally beautiful. If I ever need a break, I just go for a quick run through campus. Also, there is always something to do. I get an email everyday about club meetings or events that day I could attend. Also, it may sound unlikely or cliche, but everyone is really nice. I haven't met anyone that has been rude or unkind upfront which is extremely nice.

    Bang for the buck

The education I'm receiving is very strong but I am sure as to whether it is worth the $40,000 a year. I did receive a lot of federal and state aid but was still left with a pretty large deficit. I was forced to take out a few decently large loans which frightened me but hopefully they will pay off later.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should definitely take a look at affordablitiy before entirely deciding on Butler. Don't get me wrong it's a great school and I love it I just wouldn't want anyone to get attached and then realize they can't stay because the deficit will be too much when they graduate. Everyone says college shouldn't be about money but the reality is cost is a large concern that should not be overlooked.

Great for these types of students

If you're looking for a fairly small school in a great spot, Butler is for you. It's right in Indianapolis, ten minutes from downtown. So even if you don't like any of the events happening on campus you can easily find something in Indy.

The classes I'm enrolled in are challenging, and the professors are always here to help.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being apart of the many student organizations that Butler has to offer. There is always something going on either on campus or downtown.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, it is true that Butler provides alot of financial aid to SOME of its students. The process of selecting who receives financial aid is not very fair. Butler is very expensive, and if you are one of the unfortunate ones to not receive a Freshman Academic Scholarship, then you are stuck paying the $40,000 a year. Think about that before you accept the admission offer, I wish I did.

Great for these types of students

Great for people who like to be in a city but also attend a small school. Great for people who like to be involved.

Butler's professors really care about their students and encourage learning both inside and out of the classroom. The professors push their students to get the most out of their education.

    Am enjoying being here

At least once a day my friends catch me saying, I just love Butler. There is not a thing in this world that I do not love about Butler. The students, faculty, facilities, and academics are excellent.

    Bang for the buck

Butler gives students a signifigant amount of financial aid and accepts outside scholarships. They are very helpful by providing payment plans for their students. Butler's students are very well educated and receive the highest caliber of academics available at an undergraduate level.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit campus! When you step onto the right campus, you will know it. Also, talk to current students and get their feedback on how they enjoy Butler.

Great for these types of students

Butler is the great place for involved, motivated students. The students here know how to balance work and play, and accomplish a lot of things during their undergraduate career.

    Am learning a lot

After this past semester's finals, I don't think I've had that much information in my head at one time before! I am learning so much in the classroom and am really excited about my major. But I'm also learning about myself too. By joining different organizations and meeting new people, I have a better understanding of how I want to use my major apply to the real world after I graduate.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love Butler. I have made really great friends since I've been here, and I don't think I've met anyone who works, studies, or teaches here who hasn't been anything but genuinely nice. I've been able to go to a lot of fun events like bonfires, concerts, and of course basketball games, and there are plenty of other places to go off campus as well. Broad Ripple, about three miles away, has some great restaurants and places to shop, and there is tons to do in downtown Indianapolis, too!

    Bang for the buck

Since Butler is a private school, it is understood that it will be more expensive. But whether it is getting into sporting events for free, networking fairs to find a job or internship around Indianapolis, or just meeting up with friends at the Starbucks on campus, Butler has so many opportunities for students that make the cost worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to Indianapolis! I had never been to Indy before I went on my first tour of Butler. Talking to students, professors, and deans helped me decide that Butler was right for me.

Great for these types of students

If you want a small school in a big city, if you want professors to know your name (instead of just being a number in a crowd), or if you want to meet tons of people the first week you get to school, come to Butler!

The professors are very knowledgeable and are more than willing to help you understand the course material. I had one professor who would even give you more practice problems if you needed them.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus! It is not very large, so you don't have to leave the dorms extra early in order to get to class on time. I absolutely love the Holcomb Gardens! It is a great place to just go and be one with nature. Greek life is a lot of fun because many people dont just go Greek to get drunk and party constantly, there are several honorary and professional fraternities and sororities!

    Bang for the buck

Yes Butler is very expensive, but the many things that you can do and places that you can go for free is worth it. Depending on the teacher you get and the course that you take, you are getting a more than average education. I would rate Butler as a top of the line school!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you don't come into college looking to just have fun and get away from your parents. You need to always put education first no matter which university you go to. Remember to know your limits for everything because one may come into college thinking about greek life and then go to parties and skip class, which is not good. You are spending a lot of money to go to this university, so you should make the best out of it.

Butler is known for its academics and has a national reputation, so you won't go wrong in this department.

    Will enjoy being here

absolutely loved the campus and know i would fit right in. Lots of student activities to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

I really love this school. It is ideal for me, but unfortunately i was one of the unfortunate few who did not receive an academic scholarship (although i'm not sure why since I have a good GPA and ACT score). So unfortunately because I was not given one, Im not going to be able to attend this school.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure that you can afford the full amount of tuition, fees and room and board before applying here, because there is no guarantee that you will receive any type of academic and/or need scholarships.

Great for these types of students

I am currently a pharmacy major in the rigorous pharmacy program at Butler University. The high standards that are held for the students and the small classroom atmosphere ensure that the students reach their full potential. Although the pharmacy program is one of the toughest at Butler, I feel comfortable because my professors make an effort beyond what most professors would make at a state school to make sure that I understand the concepts. The arts program at Butler is renowned around the region, and the business program is gaining recognition by the year. Overall, I believe that choosing Butler will help you to reach your goals.

    Am enjoying being here

There has literally been no moment in time when I didn't have the option of doing something worthwhile. The greek houses are not like those at larger schools, and they take time to get to know freshmen and get them involved in the greek philanthropies and events. The university as a whole does a great job of brainstorming ideas for events for people with all kinds of interests. Butler really is a small community, and I have gotten a sense of belonging through my first semester. Butler also lies only 15 minutes from downtown Indianapolis, which offers many malls, museums, and activities. I miss being on campus when I am home for breaks.

    Bang for the buck

Although Butler is expensive, the school does a great job of offering financial aid. The average aid offered by the school is over $10,000, and the school also does a good job of working with families to offer an acceptable cost. Based on the education that students receive, the value of a Butler University degree outweighs the annual cost of the school.

    Tips for prospective students

One thing that I learned to late is that prospective students need to focus a lot on volunteer work and giving back to the community. Leadership and community involvement are used heavily in choosing scholarship winners. Always keep your options open, and if you choose Butler make sure to participate in the early registration so that you can take the classes that you want to take the most.

Great for these types of students

Butler University is great for students who are looking for a small school atmosphere with a big city surrounding. Students who are looking to get involved and get the most out of their school will flourish here.

The education I receive at Butler University is second to none. The business program is one of a kind and is gaining national recognition. Butler's theory of Real life, Real Business, really puts their students ahead of other business students. The pharmacy program and education program are also top notch programs were you can be proud to have a Butler degree in those fields.

    Am enjoying being here

I hate going home for breaks! Butler is small and therefore it feels like a family where everyone cares about each other. However, Indianapolis is huge! You will never get bored or have an uneventful night. There is plenty to be involved with on campus, whether is Greek life, volunteering, inter-murals, or just class work.

    Bang for the buck

Butler was out of my price range, but with the amount of financial aid they provided me with, it made the price more than acceptable. My education is a bargain for the national recognized degree I will receive.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply to Butler early! After last years basketball season, the school's fame has grown enormously, the amount of prospective students has skyrocketed.

Great for these types of students

If you want an Ivy League education in the midwest and want a small town school in a big town atmosphere.

butler university is a great university filled with great students and professors. there is always something to do on campus whether it be a spirited butler basketball game or a walk through the beautiful holcomb gardens. though there is a lot of work to be done, the fun never ends!

    Tips for prospective students

if you want to know almost everyone on campus, always have something fun to do, and have small classes with close relationships with your professors then butler is the place for you. if you do not like these things then do not choose butler.

    Academic Rigor

as at any university there is a lot of homework and studying to be done, but the professors make it worth it.

    Dorm Life

dorm life at butler is really fun and in comparison to many other universities butler has large dorm rooms. living in the dorms allows you to learn a lot about yourself as well as make new friends.

    Food and Dining

i can honestly say that the food at butler is terrible, that is the one downside to this university, but you learn to deal with it.

    What to do for fun

basketball games, walks through holcomb gardens, inter mural sports, hundreds of clubs, there is great shopping and restaurants nearby, if you are 21 you can go to the bars and/or fraternity's to drink and socialize, and much more

    Bang for the buck

butler university is a great school filled with great experiences.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

on homecoming everyone wakes up between 4 and six a.m., hangs out with friends, watches what we call chariot races (this is where a street is closed down and the fraternities pull each other in chariots and race down the street), then go to the football game.

Great for these types of students

    Clubs and Activities

there are over 100 clubs and activities to choose from.

    Greek Life

greek life makes up about 30 percent of butler's campus. we have seven fraternities and seven sororities. greek life can be a great experience.

    Campus Safety

i have never been on a campus where i felt safer then i do at butler. we rarely have any type of crime on campus, there are emergency poles set up all around campus, and police frequently drive around in cars and on segways to make sure campus stays safe.

Butler has a very welcoming environment. There are a wide varieties of majors and therefore diversity. I made the right choice in attending Butler.

    Tips for prospective students

Butler is a small school and it is very easy to navigate around, which is something that I found attractive when I was choosing schools. Class sizes are small so the relationships with your professors are very beneficial. Being in a large city is also a plus because on the weekends there is always something to do.

    Academic Rigor

Most students who go to Butler have been very successful through high school and they are committed to their academics. However, I personally was an average student and my musical talent was what brought me to Butler. I received a very generous scholarship. Even though I was an average student through high school, Butler has not been a difficult environment to learn it. The professors have all been very accommodating and are always willing to help in whatever ways possible.

    Dorm Life

I love my unit. My RA is absolutely helpful in every way possible and is always wanted to be there for the girls. As a freshman, I live in a dorm which has community bathrooms. These are always kept clean and I have never had a problem with using them.

    Food and Dining

The food at Butler is great! They make it possible to get food to go if you don't have time to sit down and have a meal. There are two cafeterias and one food court style cafeteria. Both produce very good food. There is always a variety to choose from.

    What to do for fun

Being in Indianapolis, there is tons of shopping and activities. There is also always activities provided for students on campus during the week and the weekends.

    Bang for the buck

Butler is very expensive. Federal aid as well as my scholarship have been very helpful in getting me to the college of my choice. I would say that Butler is worth every cent.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I wouldn't call them unusual, but I would say they are fun. Every Christmas, one of the fraternities (TKE) plays the song Dominic the Donkey all throughout the day. It begins after Thanksgiving Break and ends before finals week. It definitely creates memories.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for a good learning environment, who are serious about what they want to do should attend Butler.

    Clubs and Activities

There are tons of clubs and activities. It is also possible to create clubs if there is one that you are wanting to lead.

    Greek Life

I am personally not interested in Greek Life. Most of the campus is not either. But those who are have highly recommended it. The parties are not too wild, but you will run into the typical party group as with any college. There is no discrimination for those that are not interested, which is very comforting.

    Campus Safety

The campus is always safe in my opinion. There are stations around campus that allow you to easily summon campus police if anything were to be wrong.

Butler is the perfect size, with the best community-like atmosphere.
Once someone visits Butler, they realize that we are a lot more than just a basketball team that has been to the NCAA Final Championship twice in a row.
Our retention rate is very high, and it shows that students want to be at Butler and reach their long-term goals.

    Tips for prospective students

Everyone on-campus is super outgoing and willing to help out anyone in need of finding something around campus, so don't be afraid to ask anyone on-campus for help when you visit Butler.

    Academic Rigor

Being a liberal arts college, Butler is very open-minded about helping students achieve what they really want. While professors do have high expectations of their students, the students also have high expectations of themselves.

    Dorm Life

Being established in 1855, the dorms are a little out-dated and in need of major renovations, which are in order for the future.

    Food and Dining

There aren't many options when it comes to dining on-campus. ResCo is open for breakfast (on weekdays) and lunch and Atherton is open for lunch and dinner (and breakfast on weekends). C-Club is open all day until 9 pm. Those are the only possible options of dining on campus, and the food quality isn't the greatest.

    What to do for fun

Butler is located about 15 minutes at most from downtown Indianapolis, and about 10 minutes from Broad Ripple, so there is plenty to do around the university. Broad Ripple offers plenty of restuarants, bars (for those of age), and unique little boutiques for shopping. Indianapolis also has a zoo, multiple museums, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Conseco Fieldhouse. Basketball games, obviously, are a huge thing for on-campus activities.

    Bang for the buck

Butler is obviously pricey, but that isn't unusual for a private institution. At times it does seem like we are not getting all that we are paying for though.

    Clubs and Activities

There are practically clubs and activities for everyone, and if there is something not available, students are welcome to start up a new club, organization, or activity.

    Greek Life

When students visit Butler, they are told that about 30% of students are Greek, but when you are a student and not involved in the Greek Life it seems like you really are not included in any activities. Greek Life also hosts a lot of activities around campus.

    Campus Safety

Butler University Police Department (BUPD) is on-site and always available. While they are to be strict and law-abiding, the officers are mostly nice, relatable, and understanding. Students should never be afraid to contact BUPD if they need help in any sort of way.

    Will enjoy being here

Every time I have visited Butler, I feel at home. It's not too big, not too small, and the teacher to student ratio fits my needs. Though the two main residence halls--Ross Hall (co-ed) and Schwitzer Hall (all women)--aren't air conditioned, they are a relatively good size. And, the closets are spacious.

    Bang for the buck

You would expect Butler, a school that is over $45,000, to be uppity but it is truly not. Butler is definitely worth the money. They offer some form of financial aid to over 75% of it's students. And, the financial aid advisers are extremely easy going and more than willing to help you.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the school and speak to the teachers, it's the only way you will find out if the school is truly for you. Butler isn't for everyone.

Great for these types of students

    Headstrong, intelligent, and talented.
