    Am learning a lot

I am learning many different things at Dominguez. My first year here has really built a great foundation for the rest of my scholastic career. From easy tips to taking notes and easy study tips.

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy it at Dominguez. It is a small campus but there are so many things that go on. From welcome week to Midnight Madness, and even Toro Tuesdays. They have many events to get the students involved.

    Bang for the buck

I believe that even though the tuition is going up for the CSU's, with all of the help that is provided at the school, from free tutoring and a great computer lab, you really get a lot for what you're paying.

    Tips for prospective students

For all incoming freshmen I would encourage them to take the summer bridge program. I know the thought of taking summer school before college is the last thing on your mind but it really prepares you for what to expect during the fall. Go to all of the orientations because it helps you meet people and make friends before you officially start. It also helps you get acquainted to the campus as well. Go to the games, mixers, or other events at the school. Don't miss out on anything. These are your best years, make sure to enjoy them. Also if you are having trouble in any of your classes do not hesitate to ask questions or get tutoring. They offer free tutoring so I would recommend that you take advantage of it.

Great for these types of students

If you are looking for a small campus with diversity then CSU Dominguez is the place for you. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. If your lost or just looking for a great place to eat, do not hesitate to ask anyone. I have only been at Dominguez for one year but after the first day I was already in love. It is a great campus with so much to offer.

    Am learning a lot

The current learning experience is via distance learning, it is suprisingly rigorous. There are some weekends that you attend for some of the classes. This makes it easy for working professionals such as myself.

    Am enjoying being here

I am not physically on campus much, but have noticed the student union, which seems to be tuned in to outreach.

    Bang for the buck

Although the tuition price is increasing, it is still a bargin for a masters-level education, which I very much appreciate.

    Tips for prospective students

The paperwork requirements are very detailed, start early filling out and gathering your documents or you could be left out of matriculation.

Great for these types of students

Older, professional nursing students who wish to pursue a masters in nursing for FNP. They also have other Masters in Nursing for administration and education I believe.

    Am learning a lot

CSU Dominguez Hills has small class; therefore, if you enjoy interacting with the professors and the other students this is the school for you. Since I enjoy working in a small classroom I have been learning a lot and it has been great working with the professors and students.

    Am enjoying being here

I am from Vista which is in San Diego county, thus I live in the dorms. I really enjoy being here and living at the dorms because everyone is super friendly and you feel right at home. There is always something going on and something to do both on campus and at the dorms.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to the orientations. The campus is not very big therefore it is easier to get familiar with it. Make new friends that you can hang out with during the fall. If you can stay at the dorms its super fun and a great experience. Make sure you take care of your financial aid ASAP! Register with time and make these your best years.

Great for these types of students

CSU Dominguez Hills is great for all kinds of students. There is a lot of diversity, there are a lot of clubs, orgs. and its fun but if all you want to do is study it is also great because there are quiet hours and its just a great campus that fits with anyone.

Great for these types of students

It is a small and diverse campus. It has a nice atmosphere to be around. It’s a great campus for students that do not work well in a large class environment but better in a smaller one. It helps you gain a closer relationship with your professor. This helps because if you need help you can easily ask questions and most of the professors’ have office hours when you drop in and get help. It also gives you the chance to get to know your fellow classmates so you can also get helps from them or start study groups to help you throughout every course.

It's a beautiful but small campus. Close classrooms and buildings make it easy to get around. They have a helpful and great staff. It is definitely a warm and welcoming environment with plenty of nice students.

    Tips for prospective students

Although it may not be a first choice to many students, it is a great university. Office of student life very helpful with transfer students. It isn't hard to find someone who is willing to help if you have a question or cannot find out where you are trying to go. Is it always great to get in touch with many other transfer students when you attend the mandatory transfer student orientation.

    Academic Rigor

Many of the professors are very helpful and enjoy helping students who are willing to take an extra step to ask for help outside of class. The professors are helpful and honest. They are willing to go the extra mile for students to understand the material and strive for their best in all their abilities.

    Dorm Life

Dorms are actually more like apartments. Their locations are not too far from campus.

    Food and Dining

The bar has taco Tuesday! The 1910 restaurant has a buffet. You can never really go wrong with Subway. If those choices do not satisfy your fancy, there are other fast food places in the dining hall. If you want there are plenty of places to eat within a couple miles that offer student discount if you are a Toro! Wingstop 10% off your order.

    What to do for fun

Go to the bar and hang out to watch the Lakers or many of the other sports games. Play games in the game room. Go to the art gallery on the first floor of the library.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Toro Tuesdays, go to the Office of Student life wearing your Toro gear and enter yourself to win a movie ticket!

Great for these types of students

There is a lot of diversity on campus so it is something to enjoy and embrace. They have a great liberal studies department.

    Campus Safety

Student patrol in the parking lots when it is dark outside. They make sure the parking lots are safe.

Cal State Dominguez Hills is a very intimate friendly school that encourages you to always give your heart in everything you do so that you may be successful in your future career. The professors and counselors are always at you expense answering questions you have and helping you reach your goal. It is always a warm climate to live in and a very commutable place to get what ever you need.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure that you are constantly talking to counselors to make sure you are on the right path in transferring into the college program as smoothly as possible. Don't be afraid to talk to the people around you because you never know when you might run into a very important person that can help you in your success to graduating. And always make sure you are going to class and passing them.

    Academic Rigor

I haven't personally been to a class but from what i hear it is just like any other cal state system where they require a 2.0 GPA average to get accepted in the college.

    Dorm Life

I don't personally know too much about the dorm life, but it relatively close to the campus and it looks like a very safe environment to live in.

    Food and Dining

They have plenty cultural types of food to choose from. There are a lot of deals that are cheap, and almost a deal a day for different restaurants.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of clubs you can join or simply go to an event they host and participate on the different games they have on campus. There are computer labs and recreational sports you may join as well.

I personally love the campus. The classes are small and teachers are more willing to take the time out and get to know their students. Some teachers even work with you if you've missed an assignment or something came up and you missed class.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to make it to class everyday, even if you don't feel like it. You pay to go to school and if you don't then you're wasting your money.

    Academic Rigor

Some teachers are hard but even the hard teachers will make it possible to pass their class. Just take the time and go to their office hours.

    Dorm Life

Meeting new people in the dorm was great. I mean even though sometimes you may not get along just like living with your family. But most of my experience in the dorms have been great.

    Food and Dining

wish they had better food and a meal program here. Subway is here but the other foods aren't as healthy. And providing food for yourself in the dorm mostly results in buying fast food from McDonald's or Jack in the Box.

    What to do for fun

Attend the events on campus when they have it. There's Toro Tuesdays where the school has different vendors and music near the Loker Student Union. Sometimes the sororities and fraternities are there to give their show.

    Bang for the buck

Could lower tuition or bring the free printing back. The printing went from being able to print 100 pages free to 10 pages free and now no pages for free.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Loker Student Union and outside LSU are the places where most people hang out and where the buzz is during the week.

    Clubs and Activities

Numerous types of clubs to join who welcome anyone who wants to join. Activities are always going on during the day or sometimes at nights which student could be involved with.

    Greek Life

Numerous types of fraternities and sororities on campus. You'll see them walking around with their jackets or having a booth during Toro Tuesdays.

    Campus Safety

They have a police station basically on campus and little red emergency things on campus just in case something goes wrong. Also at night they have an escort service where they have a student walk another student to their car. Sometimes the police even drive you to your car or accompany you by driving on the side of you until you get there.

i love my school. the teachers are so willing to help students and make connections with them. even the students themselves pull together to help each other out.

    Tips for prospective students

don't be intimidated. going to a new, bigger school can be frightening, but don't be afraid to reach out and get to know people. that's how you make connections in finding friends, jobs, and having a good time.

    Academic Rigor

i think it depends on which department you are in. i am in the anthropology department, and our curriculum is pretty rigorous. however, the teachers make it interesting, and they are always willing to help if you are having problems with the material.

    Dorm Life

i'm not in the dorms, but from what i hear they are very nice!

    Food and Dining

the food could use some work. it's pretty expensive, and some of it isn't very good at all. however, there are a lot of different places to eat just off campus that you can go to and that are pretty good.

    What to do for fun

we have clubs and societies you can join that do fun things, as well as sometimes students have bake sales and sell goodies around campus.

    Bang for the buck

get involved with your teachers. they are all so awesome, and know a lot about how to get scholerships, interships, and they all just give off a friendly sort of i-want-to-help-you vibe.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the library is a great place to take a nap! there are five floors, and four of them have couches that you can usually see have students laying on them!

Great for these types of students

great for students how like being with people and getting involved. everyone on campus is very friendly, and there is always some sort of workshop or internship fair going on at the career center. it's a great place if you need help finding a career, or even just deciding on a major.

    Clubs and Activities

i don't know much about other clubs on campus, but our anthropology club is just amazing! we recently had our student research day and one of our students won first place! we also go out on field trips to other cities, attend conferences and museums and sometimes have pow wows!

    Greek Life

i'm not into the greek stuff, but from what i hear they are pretty tightnit and very friendly.

    Campus Safety

i always feel safe on campus, even at night. our security guards are awesome. sometimes you hear about someone starting something, but nothing ever gets out of control because the guards are there in an instant.

this university is known for many different multicultural racial backgrounds and diverse heritages. most of the students here are first generation college students and minorities. the school has been around for over 50 years, but has added different cultural feelings to the everyday campus life.

    Tips for prospective students

a tip for future students i would suggest is ask as many questions about your major as possible. also, remain a good standing gpa and seek help- from your teachers and get to know them well.

    Academic Rigor

classes are subjected to help gain knowledge of applied studies. most teacher in your preferred major would tell you they just want you to learn something you can apply to your future.

    Dorm Life

okay, realistically, the dorms suck!! because i've been here a while, i've gotten to experience and see a huge difference in living in the dorms as a freshman and living in the dorms as a senior, huge difference.

    Food and Dining

for the most part, this campus has a dh sports lounge that has pretty good food, but timing is not always on our side. there are other fast food places like taco bell, dragon express, subway, and a few others that accommodate us until about 7pm.

    What to do for fun

this campus is not really known for its activities, so i guess i'm just going to say skip this question (lol).

    Bang for the buck

overall the school is really good if your coming to college for strictly academics and little to no fun. but it is what it is, and how you make it, your experience might be different from mine.

    Clubs and Activities

there are a lot of clubs on campus but i think it really depends on the students participation.

    Greek Life

there is also active greek life on this campus, but not so active since 2009.

    Campus Safety

there is a campus police department on the campus, how active are they? i really don't know since all i see them do is pull over people leaving school or writing parking tickets.

    Am learning a lot

There are so many things to learn within each subject that I have not learned before. Each class has a professor that is prepared and willing to teach us more within a subject.

    Am enjoying being here

I've met tons of new people and they've been kind to me during my time schooling there. It feels so good to talk to others and get advice for my future lessons and such.

    Bang for the buck

Despite the raise in tuition fee, I feel it's worth paying for when you have a school this nice. Although, it would be nice if I can afford most things I need for each class.

    Tips for prospective students

When I first enrolled here, my admission was somewhat revoked due to my previous high school making an error. I'd advise students to check with their high school whether their final transcripts have the date they've graduated. Other than that, I'd also advise them to check their emails and accounts online to know what they're getting and what they have to do at the university before feeling relaxed.

Great for these types of students

A small university with a diversity of students helps people adjust to a community in which we all feel equal in. I've only been here for a semester and yet I feel like i shouldn't be anywhere else. Everyone's nice to each other and if you need any help, just ask a friendly person and they'll actually help you. There is no typical high school drama - I think this is a great university for students who wish to attend to a small campus, where everyone is familiar with each other in due time.

After choosing a major, immediately go to the department of that major to talk to someone who can give you a list of seasonal classes since some classes are only available during the fall and other during the spring. This way you can plan ahead which classes to take and which ones can come later.
