    Am learning a lot

On average, the class sizes are about the size of a high school class (20-30 students), which means each student has a better opportunity to talk to their professor. I am someone who really likes science, so I really enjoy how the science labs have less than 20 people, and often involve field work that helps me learn the material in a hands-on way!

    Am enjoying being here

Carroll University is a very nice school with a lovely campus, but if you're a social butterfly, it can feel a little cramped. It only have 3,000 students and the school is surrounded by houses, so you can feel kind of isolated. In reality it's only like a 1/2 mile from downtown, and the main chunk of Waukesha - plus, it;s right outside of Milwauke- but it seems like alot farther from the action when you're on foot!

    Bang for the buck

Carroll is a VERY expensive school for most people. I would say that incoming students should definitely check out the scholarships offered at Carroll, along with anywhere else they can find them! Even if you only get the ones offered by the university, it can REALLY make a difference in price!

    Tips for prospective students

Scholarships, scholarships, scholarships! They are your friends! Apply to as many as you can (and still do a good job on them)! I would also say you should visit plan a visit to the campus rather than just show up because your tour guide is always a current student, so they have first hand knowledge about the place.

Great for these types of students

People who are a little more mellow, laid back, and into their studies. However, I wouldn;t advise shy people to choose Carroll because you do need to put yourself out there a bit to meet people (but that's kind of ALWAYS needed to make friends!) If you're a party animal it probably isn;t the school for you!

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are very conducive to learning. Being about 20-30 students per class, professors definitely have the time to help students one on one if needed, and they always do. They are VERY knowledgeable and you learn a LOT from classes.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus size is fairly small for a college. Being only about 3200 people, it becomes it's own community. Everyone is so genuine and nice here and they definitely are friendly. People are willing to strike up casual conversation with someone they have never even seen before, and everyone helps other people out. Its like the campus is a family. Its definitely one of the best things about it here.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive! But the education you receive and everything that you end up paying for is worth it!

    Tips for prospective students

Scholarships! Carroll is very generous with giving out scholarships but I cannot stress enough the importance of applying for outside scholarships to get as much of it paid for as you can. The less loans you have to take the better!

Great for these types of students

Students who like a smaller campus, students who occasionally like to party but are more reserved, students who want to have fun while getting a great education.

    Am learning a lot

With the LSP and FYS programs for freshmen, as well as a huge variety of classes, I have learned a lot; and they made the transition from high school to college easy and painless.

    Am enjoying being here

There are constantly activities going on and orientation groups allowed me to meet other freshmen right away. All the students are great and I'm friendly with a lot of people. I have a tight group of friends that are really great. The professors are very helpful and are easy to talk to if you need help.

    Bang for the buck

Although the small school setting is great, the education is amazing, and the people are all incredible, it is very expensive. That being said, they came up with a very good scholarship package.

    Tips for prospective students

If you live on campus: leave your dorm door open. Even if you are more introverted, there are people who will introduce themselves around. Hang out with the people on your floor and make connections with people in your classes.
If you live off campus: make sure that you attend a lot of on-campus activities. They're free and you will meet a lot of people who share similar intrests as you.

Great for these types of students

Carroll University is great for anyone really. The students are great, the faculty members are wonderful, and the Physical Therapy program only takes 6 years for a doctorate.

    Am learning a lot

With smaller class sizes, its easy to talk to your professors. They actually take the time to get to know you and are willing to help when you need it. Plus with the SI program, if you need help studying, there is a peer being paid to take the class with you so they can help you.

    Am enjoying being here

Carroll ALWAYS has something going on. Whether it is fairly cheap field trips to movies in the ballroom, the campus is never boring. Student Affairs held a Easter egg hunt in which the finder of the golden egg won a 5lb Hersey's Bar. You are sure to never be bored.

    Bang for the buck

While Carroll is expensive, the price is worth the education and experience you will receive.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply for financial aid and as many scholarships as possible, as tuition increases on a yearly bases because they don't freeze it at the price it is at when your first enroll.

The professors are simply WONDERFUL!!! They can meet with you one-on-one of you ever need help with something or simply just chat about anything. And even if they are not available, some classes offer Supplemental Instruction. There is a SI instructor who has taken and excelled in the class. He or she offers group help sessions at least once a week; if not, more. They also have office hours if you prefer one-on-one help. This program can help a student boost his or her grades by about two letter grades if he or she regularly attends.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many different organizations on campus, so there is a group for everyone. Everyone I met here so far has been very friendly. The way that the campus is set feels like home, considering that I come from a suburban area. The campus is not too big to where you will get lost in the crowd but not too small to where you will awkwardly be the center of attention. The campus also has a very diverse group of people, so finding friends is not difficult whatsoever.

    Bang for the buck

My main concern in this department is the price of books at the bookstore and its buyback policy. One pays so much for a book then receives little to nothing at the end of the semester. For instance, at the beginning of the school, a book was bought at $160 used. At the end of the semester, $60 of the money was given back. Many colleges have much fairer policies and try to give back at least half of the money. Also, housing is a bit overpriced, especially for the on-campus apartments. For the value of these, the quality is not there. Most of them need updates and/or repairs. Dorms are OK; in fact, most of them have been renovated within the past 5-10 years.

    Tips for prospective students

*Be yourself. At Carroll, individuality is what matters. The school is very accepting of everyone; in fact, diversity is very much encouraged.
*Be involved. Like I said before, there are many orgs on campus; there is certainly one that fits you. If not, create your own org; it is very much encouraged.

Great for these types of students

    *suburban dwellers
*those who like small town living
    *those who like small campuses
*those who like to be different and part of a diverse group
*those who hate walking forever just to get to one class

    Am learning a lot

The classroom environments truly facilitate learning. The sizes, which range anywhere from six to thirty students, allows for plenty of one-on-one time with the instructor. Of course, the classroom vibe does depend on the individual professor. While each has a unique learning style, they are still effective teachers. I found that even if I wasn't particularly fond of a teacher, I still gained sufficient knowledge of the subject.
Some classes involve the typical powerpoint presentation each day in order to teach the lesson while others utilize class discussions, allowing the students to actively become familiar with the lesson. While powerpoints get the job done, the discussions really helped my understanding of the subjects.
In nearly every class, there is group work established outside of the classroom. This again allows students to learn actively while helping them formulate relationships. As a shy person, these projects aided in making acquaintances outside of class.
All in all, Carroll is excellent in the aspect of teaching students not only the curriculum, but in developing social skills as well.

    Am enjoying being here

In most aspects, I enjoy attending Carroll. The size of the classroom allows for comfortable learning and there are many environments that support my studies.
Because of the smaller classrooms, it is easier to form close relationships with the instructors. I'm able to ask for assistance and even get on a personal level with certain professors that are as interested in a subject as I am due to the comfort of the classroom.
On campus, there are a multitude of areas that aid in learning and studying. The library in particular maintains many areas for this. For students that appreciate silence when doing homework, there is a quite room. The Learning Commons allows for a more relaxed, social environment for those who don't require absolute silence. Students can also meet and socialize in the coffee shop. Other areas on campus include restaurants, shops, and computer labs.
The only factor I do not appreciate is that is seems as though Carroll favors students living on campus. For example, some late night activities discourage commuter involvement. It makes sense for the university to support the students that are away from home. However, if they equally catered their attention to the commuters, it would feel like a home to me as well.

    Bang for the buck

Carroll may not be the cheapest university in Wisconsin, but there are factors that make up for the hefty price tag.
For one, it's very close to home. As a commuter, this allows for some ease.
As I've stated before, the classroom sizes are great and allow for more opportunities to receive guidance along with getting to know the other students and professor alike.
The campus provides a safe and comfortable environment. As one of, if not the oldest colleges in Wisconsin, there is plenty of atmosphere in the old buildings.
Although the current economy is putting some strain on my family, Carroll is worth the buck for the bang.

    Tips for prospective students

I found the initial orientation days to be extremely stressful. There is an abundance of information thrown at everyone and it's impossible to keep everything straight.
However, a week into my first term, everything was fine. All the pieces of information scattered in my brain fell into place. The professors and guides are a valuable tool all throughout the year.
So, while this may seem like a frightening journey at first, everything will fall into place sooner than you think.

Great for these types of students

Carroll is really great for all kinds of students. Whether you appreciate quiet or social learning, there are environments that support both. This university is for students that are seriously interested in their majors and earning their degrees.

Carroll focuses on a good quality of learning but the professors for classes that aren't either in the PT program or the Nursing program are sub par.

    Am enjoying being here

Carroll has a good student environment and lots for a student to do around campus but many of the campus sponsored events are somewhat lame and hard to fit into a busy schedule

    Bang for the buck

I wouldn't recomend Carroll for students other than ones interested in nursing, phyisical therepy, or athletic training because tuition is expensive and the professors in the other subject areas arent very good.

    Tips for prospective students

    Do good in High School

Great for these types of students

Smart, likes small classes, want to major in nursing or pt.

Carroll University is PERFECT for me. I am so excited I can hardly stand the wait! I know I will LOVE being here.

Small classes are great but nothing if the professors don't utilize the size. Every class I have taken (I'm a sophomore) has had discussions, games (jeopardy being a favorite) and projects that help students get together and learn to work together. I haven't had a class bigger than 35 students.
The majority of the professors are SO willing to help. They came to teach at Carroll to help students. Many of the professors have become my good friends because of how interested they are in my education.

    Am enjoying being here

There is something going on nearly every weekend - there's events called CU @ Night which bring movies, trips to the mall, zoo, Brewer's game, etc to campus. Homecoming and Spring Fling are more for the drinking but DON'T miss bingo! (They give some awesome prizes.)
There is an organization (org) for anyone. From Fondue Night with the radio station to the annual History Student/Faculty Trivial Pursuit Night, you can find something for you.
The only thing I found to be bothersome is how unwilling Public Safety is to give students rides to the grocery store as they said they would.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, Carroll is expensive. But, knowing your class rank and ACT score, you can find out the least amount of money you can expect before you even apply. I loved that.
They are also very helpful with financial aid. I wasn't expecting any, and still got some.
The ticket price is something like $35,000 a year and with the scholarships Carroll gave me, I was able to get it down to $16,000.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! Go see a play, play some bingo, walk around downtown Waukesha - anything and everything!
Get to know your professors. They know so much and can help you with everything from writing your c.v. for graduate school to venting your frustrations about your roommate's belching habit.

Yes, the classes are challenging, especially if you don't ask for help. At Carroll there are so many resources at your disposal, such as tutoring, SI (Supplemental Instruction), writing center, and your professors! If you ask, you can get a tutor in any subject or class. With classes that have a large amount of students that need help every year, there's SI. The cool thing about SI, is that the student already has taken the class and gotten a good grade, but they're retaking the class with you to experience how the professor teaches. If you go to an SI session, you get a more personalized experience and have fun because they play games while you learn, it's fun! If you need help in writing/English, you can go to the writing center for help, I heard that it helps a bunch! Also, you can just go to your professor's office hours for help, they're very nice, helpful, and always willing to teach you again! Lastly, at freshman orientation, they show you all of this anyway, but pay attention! It WILL come in handy!

    Am enjoying being here

At first, I didn't like it, but after I talked to my advisor and I joined orgs at Carroll and started to feel at home. I highly recommend everyone join orgs at Carroll, they're a great way to meet new people and not go crazy just doing work all the time. There's nothing to do downtown after 5pm, but if you have car, you get to actually go places. Downtown isn't too far, but it's tiny compared to Milwaukee's downtown. There's also nothing to do if you have no money, so get a job or save money that your parents give you. There's a six week challenge in the first six weeks to get students to stay, but that's the most fun over the weekends they have. Most people go home on the weekends, so it's nice to have peace on weekends. I would say the second semester, people are more friendly and there's lots to do because all the orgs are trying to do as many thing as they can in a short time.

    Bang for the buck

Carroll's expensive, but they give out a lot free stuff. If you go to all the events during the year, you will go home happy with a suitcase full of stuff! Most of the activites are at night, so try not to have night classes to enjoy the free stuff. Also, they typically have free stuff in the campus center during lunch time and dinner time, so keep an eye out for the tables! Downtown, all Carroll students get a, I think 20% or 15%, discount at many good downtown eateries! We also get coupons for places like Domino's, Jimmy John's, Papa john's, and other places that deliver. All of this, but I don't think we're going to have a big event or concert for a while, so that's kinda disappointing. Some of the dorms and other places seem outdated, but I think they're going to fix up that within the next few years.

    Tips for prospective students

-Join an org! Even if it's just one, it's a great experience.
-Go to the org fair, it'll help you see what's a good fit for you.
-Go to events, the orgs that sponsor it would appreciate the attendance and they're usually informative and fun!
-Get help when you need it!
-Keep an open mind and try something new.
-Either rent or buy used books, unless you can't.
-Get along with your roommate because there's a $100 room changing fee.
-Go the MDR instead of the PIT. It's healthier, unless you intend to eat junk food.

Great for these types of students

-Those who like small, personal classes.
    -Those who like a challenge.
-Those who want to learn and have fun.
-Those who can stand to be bored once in a while.

    Am learning a lot

In most of the classes there are only about 20-30 students with one professor, which means that each student can ask the professor a question or they can email them or visit them on their office hours. this means that the average student can succeed more in what they need to learn. I am a photography major and there is plenty of room to work in the dark room and still ask questions if any arise.

    Am enjoying being here

Carroll university is a really nice campus and i feel more at home there so I don't get as homesick. the campus is surrounded by houses so it feels like you're in your own little village plus it's not too far from Milwaukee which is nice if you have time you can go shopping or out to eat to relax from all the homework and studying.

    Bang for the buck

For what is offered at Carroll University the tuition is worth your while. It is pretty expensive but there are so many opportunities and scholarships available for Carroll.

    Tips for prospective students

For the incoming freshmen I would recommend to find as many scholarships as possible, there are plenty out there to apply for. Also visit the campus first to see if you like it, most likely you will love the campus. Also when you do visit there is always a campus tour guide who can help you with locating each building and if you have any questions they will answer them because they are a current student at Carroll University.

Great for these types of students

Anyone could go to Carroll University, whether your mellow, laid back, or energetic, there's so many different organizations to join, many different events happening each week and different athletics to chose form. In joining in with Carroll University's events, organizations or athletics you can make so many different friends and make the best out of the four years of being at Carroll University.

    Will learn a lot

I have not yet started my classes for Carroll, but I did decide to sit in on a class when I took a visit. I honestly would have stayed the full two hours of the class because it was so interesting. The teacher was definitely a hands on teacher and it was so friendly it did not even seem like a class anymore. The students in the class told me that the teachers were always like that. I would say with my experience I can totally tell that I am going to learn a lot because of the unique style of teaching.

    Will enjoy being here

Carroll University has a beautiful campus. It is the only campus that I have been on that looks like the photos that they send in the mail. I have already visited several times, and each time I notice something better about coming.

    Bang for the buck

Carroll is an expensive school, but the small class size and the hands on learning experience is going to be worth it. They also have in place a great financial aid package that really helps, and they help to find outside scholarships as well. They also have a great selection of on campus jobs to bring down the cost as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay focused on high school. Scholarships are important and should be done when you have time, but never take your eyes off of senior and junior year. Complete the steps in high school, it is still important. Focus on scholarships and college applications on weekends and during breaks. And don't worry about the financial costs, there are people to help you work it out, never back away from your dream school because of the cost.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for a small town student, one that likes hands on learning, small class size, cozy atmosphere, at home feeling, and a student ready to expand their education.
