Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In my opinion, the professors at Mesa do a good job of cutting straight to the core of a subject and really making sure that their students understand what is being taught. They talk to you, rather than at you when they lecture so everything is more personal and therefore more memorable. Mesa sets the standard that getting a great education is the main goal of a student's attendance. Even though there is plenty of wiggle room for a social life, learning the skills we need for our future careers is the main priority and Mesa is serious about equipping it's students with the skills they will need to succeed.
Am enjoying being here Last year at Mesa I experienced what I had expected my first year of college to be. It challenged me and made me more independent, but wasn't to hard and I had time to make a lot of friends along the way. Mesa constantly provides fun occasions for the students, which kept the year feeling relatively stress free, and because of this I enjoyed my first year at Mesa very much and am looking forward to more great years to come.
Bang for the buck Any college is going to seem expensive, but Mesa does a pretty good job at reasonable prices for tuition and fees. The facilities at Mesa are nice and there are a lot of fun activities and Mesa is generous with financial aide, so there isn't much room for complaint. The main issue I have with Mesa when it comes to the money aspect is that you don't really know where all of your money is going. Other than that, I think you get what you pay for for the most part.
Tips for prospective students The main tip I would give prospective students is to not base your college choice solely on the money you are going to have to spend. Any college is going to cost quite a bit, so you might as well pay the extra few thousand a year to go to one you love rather than to go to one you feel you have to settle for. If you're going to go to a school like Mesa, go there because you want to, not just because it might cost a little less than the next school.
Great for these types of students Mesa is a good school for the easy going but hard working person. There are hundreds of different types of people that go to Mesa and lots of variety. Mesa's for the student who's serious about gaining skills to succeed in the future, but also for the person who doesn't mind having fun along the way.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is a lot of variety at Mesa. Whether you want to become a nurse or a dancer, there are classes for just about any profession an incoming student can choose from. And even if that person hasn't decided what they want to do yet, they can take a general education track until they decide what they like to do.
Am enjoying being here I can't count how many clubs, extracurricular activities, and events that are going on at Mesa right now. They just finished completing the new recreation center, so if the person coming in is a sportsy type, they can do basketball, raquetball, swimming, running... the list goes on and on. I do raquetball right now. And I'm looking to getting involved in the theatre clubs once Spring semester starts.
Bang for the buck It's a little pricey, but there are several different, degree-specific and general, scholarships available for incoming freshmen and people who are in their first or second year. It's real easy to get a little help when paying for the tuition, books, and fees that are always a pain in the you-know-where to find money for.
Tips for prospective students 1.) Have an idea of what you want to do
2.) Loans and grants are okay, but have a plan of how you're going to pay them back.
3.) Be open and have fun!Great for these types of students 1.) Mathematics majors
2.) Any kind of medical major
3.) GREAT for theatre and art majors
4.) SportsLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The academics within the school are definitely top of the line, and the teachers all seem to know their subjects absolutely thoroughly. It seems as though the University Board staffed their school very well.
Will enjoy being here The campus is absolutely beautiful! Every single building is either just renovated or brand-new. They are renovating the football and baseball stadiums for this fall, and they just opened 3 new dorms within the past 2 years. The population is big enough where you aren't in everyone's business, yet small enough where you can get to know everyone that you want to. An excellent pick if you want a superior small school.
Bang for the buck Mesa is definitely the cheapest college - now University - in Colorado. They have the smallest tuition increase in CO, and the room and board prices are just below the average University dorm prices. Definitely worth every penny paid though.
Tips for prospective students 1. Go to the FYI (Freshman Year Initiative) program before school starts - it's most certainly worth it.
2. Get involved with the activities on campus. There are 19 NCAA Div. II sports on campus, plus 5 up and coming. If you don't want to play pro, then there are tons of club sports that you can be a part of.Great for these types of students 1. Arts (music, theater, dance, art) majors DEFINITELY
2. Medical Majors (any type)
3. Mathematics/science majors will do very wellLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not only do I learn a lot in the classroom, but outside as well. Our professors always make them selves available to help whenever students need extra help. I have studied at other universities where getting a study group set up is difficult, at Mesa it is easy, and always teaching others new things.
Am enjoying being here There is always plenty to do on and around campus. Mesa is a great place for the outdoors type. We have a great program where we can rent tents and canoes, really anything you could ever need for out door fun. I love the people, and the community. Some of my best friends have been made in my first year of school.
Bang for the buck We have amazing accommodations. Our facilities are state of the art. The weight room is in constant use, as is the new College Center. You can always find students using every available resource, from the indoors to the outdoors.
Tips for prospective students Live on campus the first few years. You will meet your best friends, and learn so much about yourself and life in general. There is always something going on on campus that nearly all students enjoy immensely. The food may not always be something you will enjoy, but if you tell chef he will make something that you, as well as others, enjoy.
Great for these types of students Any one who is ready to learn, make friends, and have fun. If you can apply yourself in and out of the class room, understand your peers in the dorms, and just let loose from time to time, Mesa is the place for you!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i love colorado mesa university. the campus is beautiful and the curriculum is very good. it is also a great place to make new friends, and in some cases even family.
Tips for prospective students don't be afraid to get out there and make new friends. friends really help with the stress you get from classes. also don't overload yourself with classes.
Academic Rigor the academics at mesa are amazing. i transferred to another college for one semester and what i learned at mesa in my english 111 class prepared me for myenglish 112 class extremely well. thanks to mesa i am currently acing my 112 class.
Dorm Life i lived in mary-rait dorms while at mesa. i met some really great people while living in these dorms, you could say that we are now family. the rooms are nice and roomy too.
Food and Dining the food selection at mesa is wonderful. everyday there is an oriental food of sorts, hamburgers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, a vegetarian plate, and a 'classical' choice. the dinning room is a great place to eat with friends as well.
What to do for fun there is plenty to do at mesa. you can attend the sporting events, go to clubs, chill with friends (outside in the grass or in the common areas of the dorms. there is also events held at the college quite often, such as pinion palooza, which is a big end of the year party pretty much.
Bang for the buck i think mesa is worth every penny. i love this school so much. it met every requirement i thought a good college should have and still stands that way.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus many people like to hang out right outside the university center, when it's nice and warm. there are several big open areas where you can hang with your friends and do whatever.
Great for these types of students all types. academic, party, skaters, etc.
Clubs and Activities there are several clubs located in the grand junction area. most of these clubs have a college night on wednesdays. clubs aren't the only thing to do in grand junction though. i also enjoyed attending the movies, smoking hookah, swimming, and watching the sporting events.
Greek Life the are no sororities or frats at mesa.
Campus Safety the campus at mesa is very safe. if you feel unsafe there is an escort 'team' that any student is able to access at any time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot For the most part, I am learning things that I didn't previously know. The only exceptions to this case are the College Algebra class which seems to be taught at the level of 8th grade-12th grade mathematics and the geology courses which have gone over information that I had previously learned in my geology classes in middle and high school.
Am enjoying being here I do enjoy living on campus and being close to my classes, but the things that I don't like about living on campus can be expected of any other college. There is litter on the ground and the dorms have students in them that partake in alcohol and drugs and can be noisy at times, even during quiet hours. The town, for the most part, is friendly, but I would caution you to look out for the homeless as they can be somewhat militant.
Bang for the buck It is no lie that Colorado Mesa University is a cheap school. Because of that, you can attend many classes and if it is your choice to transfer, many of the courses can go with you to other schools with higher tuitions. CMU is a good starter school if you want to get some of your general education credits before going on to do more specialized course work elsewhere.
Tips for prospective students I would suggest doing as many of your classes online. Some of the classes are hybrids between actual class time and internet courses and it is great to do those types of classes. A word of caution, however, in the health class that all students must take, I have had trouble with submitting assignments. At the end of the semester I found that I had gotten a very low grade and discovered that my professor hadn't recieved my assignments at all.
Great for these types of students CMU is good for students who want a smaller campus, small class sizes, and enjoy the outdoors. Moab is nearby, but it doesn't take a long drive to get to a good place to go hiking. Just a couple miles away is the Colorado Monument where you can hike many trails and get great views of surrounding geologic features and Grand Junction. The campus is biker and skateboarder friendly, with many bike racks around campus and skateboarding racks at the dining facility. I have seen no professors that have issues with students bringing their boards into class.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The best decision I could have made. They have great opportunities for me. I am not planning on transferring because I could not leave the amazing environment.
Tips for prospective students Seriously look into this school. It is amazing and you will not regret it one bit. I have grown so much and I feel more confident in everything I do.
Academic Rigor The class sizes are small and your professors get to know you inside and outside the classroom. They will say hello to you passing you on campus, and they are always there if you need them.
Dorm Life The dorms are really nice and a fun place to live. You will meet all sorts of different people, some of who you will become best friends with. I really enjoyed living in the dorms.
Food and Dining The food is actually pretty good. There were only a couple days where I didn't want to eat there, but most days I enjoyed the food a lot. It wasn't home cooked, but sometimes it seemed like it was.
What to do for fun Go to bananas fun park, go hiking or bike riding on the Colorado National Monument, take a road trip to Utah, go to the mall, go play around downtown.
Bang for the buck It is one of the cheaper colleges in Colorado, and I really like that because college is becoming really expensive, so I know that I won't have tons of student loans, which makes me feel better.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus None that I can think of
Great for these types of students Small school students, athletes, and anyone who wants to be known by a name on campus and not just a number.
Clubs and Activities Religious clubs, ethnicity clubs, varsity sports, club sports, intermural sports, almost anything you can think of. And you can start your own club
Greek Life None
Campus Safety They have blue poles all over campus. You can ring the pole for assistance, and someone will come to escort you to your destination at anytime during the day or night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Colorado Mesa is a wonderful college to attend. The class sizes vary, they are usually bigger for general education courses and smaller for concentration courses. I would rate CMU a 8 out of 10.
Tips for prospective students If you are looking for a hands on based college between teachers and students Colorado Mesa is a great place to receive that in the concentration of study classrooms.
Academic Rigor The classes are appropriately challenging in order for students to actually learn rather than just getting by. Teachers do well teaching and make assignments as clear as they can in order for a student to reach their full potential in the learning criteria.
Dorm Life Dorm life is typical you have the young adults that respect it and the young adults that disrespect by disobeying rules. The staff does a great job on keeping it well put together.
Food and Dining Food and Dining is all done by Sodexo. They serve a variety of foods such as pizza, pasta, chicken, cheeseburgers, fries, and on occasion roast beef.
What to do for fun There are many activities to do on campus. Plays are put on in the theater. Also there are a variety of varsity sports on campus that most students attend to support the athletes.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Colorado Mesa University has a beautiful campus. It is relatively small but growing. The campus feels safe. It offers some excellent classes in general academic subjects and also extra classes in fitness and self defense.
Tips for prospective students Keep up with your assignments, attend classes and avoid being late and you will do well. The instructors take these things very seriously. The on campus tutoring center is very good; so take advantage of it if you are having difficulty in a subject. Get involved in the clubs; they love having new members and are very friendly.
Academic Rigor 3 1/2 stars. You can do well in the classes as long as you keep up with the work. There are advanced classes for those who want them. The instructors are mostly good teachers, appreciate student questions and interest, and are accessible.
Dorm Life 3 stars. The University has been adding a lot of new dorms in the last couple of years. The student population has been growing a lot. The newer dorms are nice. The older dorms are mostly being renovated.
Food and Dining 3 1/2 stars. Food is decent in the dining hall. There are other options in the student center that offer more variety of food choices - the cheese steak sandwiches are very good. Plus, the smoothies in the Rec center are very tasty.
What to do for fun The MAV rec center is very good: great workout equipment and swimming. The theater and music and dance departments have very good programs. For outdoor lovers there are many things to do in this beautiful area. There is a great outdoor program which offers weekly programs, several local trips and two international trips per year.
Bang for the buck 3 stars. The classes are getting more expensive since Mesa became a University. The financial aid, if you qualify, will cover your costs, but beyond the basics a lot of it will be loans. They don't seem to have outside grant money besides the Pell Grant and the Colorado student grant.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus They have a very good cultural diversity group which has several activities throughout the year.
Great for these types of students The campus is great for students who want a smaller, pretty campus that is welcoming.
Clubs and Activities 3 1/2 stars. The cultural diversity club offers clubs for ethnic minorities and gay and lesbian. It is active on campus. The theater, music and dance programs each offer several activities throughout the year; these are excellent.
Greek Life They are in the process of adding this.
Campus Safety 4 stars. The campus feels safe. And, there are blud boxes on campus which provide an emergency phone. They do not tolerate any fighting

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Colorado Mesa University is a great school to meet new people. Their standards have become higher now that we are a university so it pushes me to work a lot harder with my school. And their campus and faculty are amazing.
Tips for prospective students The tips i would have for upcoming college students would be. College isn't all about partying and having fun. I came to college with that attitude my first semester my freshman year and got a rude awakening. So keep up with your work, study hard, don't slack off, and just do your best!
Academic Rigor Colorado Mesa is one of those schools where everyone who applies gets in. I feel that since we are now a university we need to up our standards as far as students who are and aren't accepted.
Dorm Life The dorm life here is pretty fantastic. Here at mesa we have plenty of room selections to choose from and more the come. They give you the option of an all girls or all boys dorm or even co-ed. Our janitors here are very good at keeping our buildings clean, up and running.
Food and Dining I don't dine in at the school to often but when I have it's always been good. They have a great variety of food from healthy to some pretty good snacks as well. And the staff is very welcoming and friendly.
What to do for fun For fun here in Grand Junction, Colorado there is biking, hiking, rafting, snowboarding, skiing, there's a lake not to far for the weekends.

Great for these types of students its great for all types of students, for those who want a really good experience as their first years in school. the weather there is awesome and the people who love the school this school is good for them. or for those who like a little bit of snow here and there but also want a hot summer then this school is perfect for them.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The campus is nice and easy to get around on with friendly people and fun professors. There is not a whole lot of parking but once you find a spot it is easy to get from place to place. The classroom experience is hands on and the smaller classes make learning easier.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to be yourself and try to make friends when you first get there. Make sure to balance your social life with your academic life so you can still pass your classes while having fun. If you need help, visit the TLC or ask questions, you won't look stupid for asking.
Academic Rigor The classes are challenging but not too over bearing. There are small classes so it is more likely to get individual help if needed. The amount of homework depends on which teacher you get and what class you take.
Dorm Life The only reason I am giving it a low rating is because I haven't had the dorm experience yet. It is a fun experience from what I have heard though and I am excited to try it.
Food and Dining The food is very good and there is always a variety to choose from. The only problem is that it is fairly expensive which makes it hard to eat out a lot if you live at home. There are places around that give discounts and other things like that if you do get sick of the food in the University Center. The surrounding places are always nice to turn to.
What to do for fun There is not a whole lot to do since it is in Grand Junction. There is the mall, movies, old bowling alley, and the clubs like Cactus Canyon and Infinity. I personally think that the best thing to do is go rafting, hiking, or fishing. The views are great and it is a fun experience. The only problem with this is when it gets cold, all of those things are hard to do.
