    Bang for the buck

Out of state tuition is gruesome in this economy! But there is truly no where I'd rather be than an ECU pirate!

    Tips for prospective students

Have an open mind, join as many on campus clubs and activities as you can. Becoming a pirate is a process! After you experience your first ECU football game you will officially bleed purple and gold. Being friendly in the dorms is a must-being social in college is almost just as important as that 4.0.

Great for these types of students

Students looking for a gorgeous campus with friendly faces. The weather is beautiful, pirate pride is almost palpable in Greenville, and the large style campus makes you feel like you are apart of something bigger without feeling lost. Perfect for every student, looking for a bustling social scene or even a trip straight to academia.

    Am learning a lot

Even though the classes are much more intense than I thought, the professors here make sure you understand what your learning!

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is soo beautiful, and the overall people are really down to earth.

    Bang for the buck

It is not as expensive as Chapel Hill or Wake Forest, but with all the transportation to anywhere on campus, and the free movies, it is so worth going to a four year college.

    Tips for prospective students

If your a Biology major, GOOD LUCK! It is a hard major especially the A&P classes! However, ECU is growing into more and more medical fields and also has a number 1 Criminal Justice program. Also, beware on Halloween, because they close some streets down and it is like a major party that everyone goes out in the streets with their horrifying costumes and police are everywhere!
One more thing: DO NOT BUY YOUR BOOKS ON CAMPUS!! They are a rip off. I recommend buying off ebay, Chegg.com, amazon or any other book stores online because you can get them so much cheaper and then sell them back to ECU.

Great for these types of students

If your going into the medical field choose ECU. Such as Biology, Chemistry, Forensics majors are very intense but well worth it!

    Am learning a lot

Since enrolling at East Carolina University, I have learned what it means to merge and accept other peoples opinions and different points of view on religion, politics, humanity, etc. I have also learned and educated myself so much, and have finally began to see my education and degree paying off through my job, and how I speak educated than how I did before I came to ECU.

    Am enjoying being here

I love waking up in my apartment everyday knowing that I am a pirate. I bleed purple and gold! I have LOVED ECU since stepping on campus in August of 2008, and have made and met unforgettable friendships that will definitely last a lifetime. The atmosphere is amazing, the town locals are VERY kind, and the attitude of success here at East Carolina is alive, as each and every student knows just what it means to study hard, and excel in the classroom!

    Bang for the buck

East Carolina has a fairly reasonable price for students who wish to go to school here. Yes, we are in a horrible situation with the economy and the way that it is, but East Carolina has gone beyond to do what they should do to help me out in time of need with my family, and how they have a GREAT financial plan to ensure that you get a good education and make sure your time here in Pirate Nation is enjoyable and stress free!

    Tips for prospective students

My tips for prospective students are simple. First tip, come to school knowing you want to succeed and have a great education. You have to come here and study hard, and live a stress free lifestyle. Yes, school can be VERY stressful at times, but remember; only you are in control of your destiny and future endeavors. Second tip, go to your professors’ office for help. Most of my success here at East Carolina has solely been going to my professors’ office and asking them for help. In fact, the number one tip that I learned before I came to college was learning that professors enjoy seeing their students, and are very impressed that their student is actually taking the time to learn and come to their office to have a successful semester in their class. Third tip, HAVE FUN! Get out and enjoy the life of being a pirate through awesome advanced screening movies on campus, mingling with other pirates downtown on weekend nights, cheering and being loud for the back-to-back Conference USA pirates at one of the loudest football stadiums in North Carolina at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, or enjoying a delicious midnight breakfast meal before exams begin!!

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who are very interested in the medical fields, and its school of nursing. Those who are wishing to be Dentists in their career, there is a solid school of dentistry starting in the near future. Yes I am a Geography Major, which has a very succesful graduation rate for their majors, but East Carolina has a broad selection of degrees to ensure that you will be successful in your future career. East Carolina believes in Service, and that is what should be the total decisive factor in coming to an institution such as ECU.

    Am learning a lot

East Carolina is a good school espicially if you enjot learning. Many classes are offered and are very interesting. You must study if you want to do well. Grades here are not handed out ( like most schools.) Teachers do expect a lot from you, however, if you do your work, you'll be good.

    Am enjoying being here

ECU is a wonderful environment. Purple and Gold pride is everywhere. The town is proud of their pirates and the pirates are proud of their town.

    Bang for the buck

Of course college is expensive, and espicially in these hard economic times, however, East Carolina is one of the cheaper schools in the eastern Carolina area.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't party all the time. You are paying for the school, so don't waste your money. Also attend professors extra instruction. Extra instruction is usually a key word for going over the exam from last year, which usually doesn't change too much from year to year.

Great for these types of students

Nursing students and education majors are at a great advantage here at East Carolina. East Carolina is notorious for nursing and is very well known to be a nursing school.

    Am learning a lot

Not only are my classes and professors interesting, I am also learning a lot from living on my own in a dorm for the first time!

    Am enjoying being here

Becoming a pirate is the best decision I've ever made!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is high for students not from North Carolina but it could be worse.

    Tips for prospective students

Join as many clubs as you can as soon as you get here. Find things that interest you and if there isn't already a group about your interest on campus, start one yourself! Don't stay cooped up in your dorm room all day, there are plenty of friendly people all over campus and the easiest way to meet them is just to go out and find things you love to do! Just don't let the party scene here at ECU get in the way of your academics.

Great for these types of students

Students who won't let themselves get distracted by the party scene and will be able to push themselves to always go to class.

    Am learning a lot

I am a current Special Education major here, and am really enjoying a lot of my classes. By using Rate my Professor I pick the professors I want, that way I don't choose anyone that doesn't sound like a good professor. That's one thing that makes it easy for me to like class, is having that opportunity to choose professors. I learn in my classes, and I enjoy going.

    Am enjoying being here

I have amazing friends here and there are SO many activities to get invovled in here at ECU. If someone is a gamer, I'm sure you can find a group of people who love to game. For people like me who is a guard girl, we have an amazing colorguard, and we are planning on having a winter guard this year :)

    Bang for the buck

I don't like how ECU really is rising tuition. We just paid some of our tuition through a new beach complex at an apartment complex, that we can't even swim in! What's the point in having a beach that we can't even swim in? Isn't that half the point? We are putting too much money through stuff we don't need. We are laying off professors, yet our tuition is going up. Yeah sure, we like fun stuff to do on campus, but there are some things that are a little ridiculous for us to pay for.

    Tips for prospective students

I'd be prepared for rain! If you don't own a pair of rainboots, please invest in a pair before you begin your path here. Trust me. It will be so worth the 30-40 dollars.
Also be prepared to get a high amount of pirate bucks. I have the lowest amount, and with how many dining options we have on campus, you're gonna wanna eat somewhere other than the dining hall a few times! Totally worth it having a Chilis on campus :)

Great for these types of students

Great for education majors and nursing majors. I hear we have a high majority of those students. There is a good drama/theater program as well as a medical field. (Other than nursing)

    Tips for prospective students

The tips go beyond university borderlines... if you have a great personality with the yearning for learning, then you have what it takes to attend this university and be successful. The only advise I have is obvious, just dont procrastinate and it will be then that you learn what it takes to survive in a world such as our own.

Great for these types of students

WOW! I love attending ECU! The enjoyment is truely overwhelming. The faculty and staff are simply amazing with the urge to teach beyond the limits.

There are a lot of things to learn on this campus. Knowing that there are many different people and cultures, learning new things daily is what there is to look forward to.

    Am enjoying being here

I LOVE being at ECU. There are many things to do at this school and the people there make the experience even better. The teachers are even cool to talk to.

    Bang for the buck

I definitely get the bang for my buck. There are many organizations on campus to join and there are always programs for a person to go to. You can even start your own organization if you can't find what you are looking for.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember that your high school study habits don't work here or anywhere for that matter. Also it is okay to have a little fun but just keep in mind what you are going to school for and keep the dream in sight. There will always be a party, but you don't always have to be there for your name to be known. STUDY FIRST PARTY LATER!!!

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students with open minds, and students that have a general interest in education, nursing, business, music, theater, and medicine. That is just a short few, but the list goes on. Find what you are looking for and I am pretty sure ECU has it to offer!

I am a current Art student here at East Carolina University, and the Fine Art College here is absolutely fantastic! The professors are helpful and always willing to help if you have questions, and it's not just the Art College that is like that either. Every professor I have ever had has always offered ways for students to improve and always want students to come to them if they are having difficulties. My knowledge and skill in art has grown over my time here, and I couldn't love it more!

    Am enjoying being here

Everyone at East Carolina is a proud, purple and gold wearing pirate. East Carolina offers a lot of fun student activities, that are most often free for students. You could go bowling, see movies, go swimming, get your work out, see concerts, and so much more, all on campus! I live in the dorms and am very pleased with the conditions and layout of my hall. Campus Dining has lots of places to eat, including two dining halls, and plenty of coffee shops. Classes are easy to get to and the campus is easy to navigate. Being an East Carolina pirate is just awesome!

    Bang for the buck

Tuition for out of state is pricey, but for in state students the pricing is fair and on par with other major Universities. I definitely recommend this college for anyone considering being an art student. It is a fantastic school for the arts, but without the extra expenses for attending a private art school. You will spend a lot of money on art supplies, so be prepared for that. However, East Carolina isn't just great for art students, it is also a great school for anyone considering degrees in the medical field, communications field, or the education field. If you are an in state resident I definitely recommend looking into East Carolina, it is affordable, and offers a variety of great programs.

    Tips for prospective students

Realize that you are spending lots of money to come to this (or any other) University. So take your classes seriously! Go to class on time and complete your assignments, you will find your classes will be less difficult if you pay attention and do your work. Time management is a necessary skill; you need to know how to balance work and play, and if you can do it right your college experience will be much less stressful. Some advice for prospective art students; all art majors must go through foundations classes. These classes are like the boot camp of art school. Be warned that art is NOT an easy major, you will be spending lots of time working on art projects and all of your classes will be two to three hours long. However, if art is truly what you love doing and you take it seriously then you will do well. Be sure to manage your time wisely and be aware of approaching deadlines. As an art student you will have unlimited access to the Jenkins Fine Art Center at all hours, you will spend a lot of time here, and be sure to use it. Good Luck!

    Did learn a lot

I attended as an Engineering student. The classes actually taught me a lot and gave me many real world scenarios. I gave 4 out of 5 stars because for a few of the classes, unfortunately (or fortunately), it is possible to get away with not doing much work and getting a decent grade.

    Did enjoy being here

The atmosphere is amazing here. I believe the school spirit at ECU is one of the tops in the state. EVERYBODY is a Pirate at East Carolina. And there's always something to do and fun to enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

For in state (and living off campus), the tuition was actually pretty cheap. Of course, room and board add more. But compared to many other colleges in North Carolina, ECU is fairly cheap.

    Tips for prospective students

DO NOT become reclusive at this college. There is plenty to do. But just like almost every other college, you will be much closer to the with ECU if you live on campus, if possible. Join organizations and attend events. You will positively not regret it.

Great for these types of students

This school is very open to outgoing students. But the diversity here creates an amazing for everyone. Also, ECU is growing into a university that has a great variety of studies. From art to engineering, ECU has most of it all.

High school teachers try to say that your college professors will not care about your grades, but at ECU if you're putting in your best effort and your professor sees that they are all willing to help.

    Am enjoying being here

I definitely like the school, but the people here can be a little stuck up at times. I will be at a bus stop and try to casually make conversation, but most people will not carry on a conversation with you and you're left there looking stupid.

    Bang for the buck

I believe ECU as far as academics go is definitely worth the money, if you live on campus the meal plans are a little ridiculous for what you're getting.

    Tips for prospective students

My main advice is make sure you're going to class and stay on task with school work. It is definitely easy to fall behind with the clubs just a bus ride away.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who love to party, but are able to moderate. If you are easily convinced to procrastinate I suggest going to WCU the sister school where there isn't anything in the town to distract you. :P

The professors are truly here to help you learn and are almost always available for help. My department is very small, and I live on campus, so I see my professors all over the place. (Which in high school wasn't a great thing, but here it is completely different.) If I have a question, anytime I see them I am able to ask. I can also ask professors who I know teaches the class to explain it differently.

    Am enjoying being here

ABSOLUTELY, the students here all have wonderful school spirits, the teachers are friendly and considerate, and best of all its a beautiful campus.

    Bang for the buck

I have a meal plan which can kind of be a pain in the butt, but it is also extremely helpful. Your meals run out at the end of the week, and restart and Monday. So if you have the Pirate 19 Plus, you get 19 meals per week, and on Sunday at Midnight (technically Monday) you get 19 again. The only problem with that, is if you don't use all 19 meals, then you are out of luck. However, its nearly impossible to run out of meals here!

You learn as much as you want! So.... On the subject of tution, I think it is worth it!!!

    Tips for prospective students

Figure out how much you eat, study, and look into time management. In high school its harder to get distracted than in college. So many activities, friends, and classes, its hard to remember what all needs to get done. On the plus side it gets easier, on the down side, its rather difficult to focus all the time. You need a firm hand on time management.

Great for these types of students

Most any student. Most people think this is a party school, but like any college those you look for a party find a party. If you want a fun time in school, where you learn a lot, get one on one time with your professors, small classes, and most importantly a fun environment, then this is the school for you.

Professors here are very helpful when it comes to a students education. If you need any type of tutoring they will help you find a tutor group and will give you their office hours for you to come whenever you please.

    Am enjoying being here

Being a pirate is definitely the best thing to be. The football games are intense and we get to play top rated schools. Students are self-less and always willing to help a classmate out when in need.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state tuition is crazy don't get me wrong but it is definately worth every penny. i feel welcomed here and the professors are very helpful for whatever i may need. I highly recommend any in-state or out-of-state high school senior to apply to ECU.

    Will learn a lot

I am interested in health sciences and have heard great reviews about that department of ECU. It would be best to do more in depth research for your particular major or career interest.

    Will enjoy being here

I rated this very because I have no idea on how student life is at ECU, so don't take my rating as the ultimate answer to this question.

    Bang for the buck

ECU costs less than the private school I currently attend, but this is because it is a public school. However, it has many scholarship programs for students that range from high school to transfer students. If you want to be eligible for these award it is best to not only have a great GPA but also, community service and leadership experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Take time to visit the campus. I have yet to visit ECU but have heard great things.

Great for these types of students

It would be best to call the school for more information and even go as far as to ask them to send you those information for future references.

East Carolina University is very heavy on the academics. The professors here are kind and really wants you to succeed. They allow students to come to their office hours anytime you are struggling, and would even offer to stay after! If that doesn't help, East Carolina University has eager tutors yearning to aid you in the infamous Joyner Library. Learning here is synonymous with the time that you put in your studies. You can do it!

    Am enjoying being here

East Carolina University should win an award for being the friendliest campus on the land! You will be surrounded by positive energy and love. And if you don't like sports, you will by the time you go to your very first football game! Your ears will be drowned with purple and gold chants as we all come together for the greater cause; to win! With this beautiful campus filled with over 28,000 students you will find yourself closer to everyone than you'd expect.

    Bang for the buck

Although this is a time of great struggle for our economy, you will not find a better place to receive a proper education. Here at East Carolina University, they do not give you just enough knowledge to get a job, but rather to create them. Your money will be well spent.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students my advice is to be responsible for yourself actions. Although East Carolina University is filled with things to do, you must learn to separate fun from when it is time to get work done. Try not to get caught up in the wonderful activities so that you can stay focused on your grades. Also, always walk in groups at night to avoid issues of crime.

Great for these types of students

East Carolina University is great for any type of student. Its diversity is so vast that you will always find other students with interests similar to your own. No matter who you are or where you come from, we will all welcome you with open arms! However, with East Carolina known for putting academics above all, it would be amazing for any students who are serious about their future successes.

The professors are very friendly, and they will take time out of their busy schedule to meet with you if you are having trouble in their class. The university also offers the Pirate Tutoring Center, which offers one-on-one tutoring in every subject.

    Am enjoying being here

There is never a dull moment at ECU.

    Bang for the buck

East Carolina is what I would call, Easy on the Pockets, and Great on the Transcript I feel that I am getting the most out of my tuition from the staff and from the organizations that are on campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Come to East Carolina with an open mind, relax, and have fun. College will not be as easy as high school, but, if you manage your time well, get involved on campus and in the community, and keep your GPA up, you'll have a blast!

Great for these types of students

ECU is great for EVERYONE! The university loves to know what the students think, so every other week, they send us a survey asking us what they could do to make the university better, or what they could add to accommodate us. Just recently, they've added a Chillis Restaurant, Starbucks, and a Burger Studio.

At ECU, there is no excuse not to learn. There are so many wonderful courses to take, and qualified professors to chose from. So far in my college career at ECU, I am not only being taught classes that pertain to my major, but courses that help me become well rounded. If you are open to learning, you will achieve a greater depth in any course you take than you ever expected.

    Am enjoying being here

ECU offers many opportunities to be involved and have fun. There are hundreds of clubs to chose from, and starting a club is also very easy. There are many free events that happen weekly on campus such as movies, concerts, and fairs. Departments also host their own events open to the public. ECU has free movie rentals, a bowling alley as well as the gym for people to take advantage from. The town of Greenville has a mall and many other shopping centers that a college student will enjoy.

    Bang for the buck

Of all the North Carolina colleges and universities, ECU is the least expensive. With that being said, the quality of education is excellent. Professors are accessible, tutoring is free, the campus is absolutely beautiful, financial aid is great, and the opportunities to get involved in any organization are limitless. For my money, I am getting what I wished for and then some!

    Tips for prospective students

With so many things to do on campus, focusing on academics is tricky for some. Having priorities is the most important tip. While the movies on the weekend are great, it should not interfere with studying. Professors and faculty are willing to help you... are you willing to be helped? Another thing is to not procrastinate, which is a problem across all campuses. Don't ever leave things for the last minute!

Great for these types of students

ECU is famous for it's diversity. If you like meeting new people from many countries and all walks of life East Carolina is the school for you. If one is looking to progress academically from High School, ECU is great.

The teachers here are doing what they suspose to do, teach. It's up to you to do the rest. Wake up, it's not elementary school no more. You have to work for this, they will not hold your hand. You have so many things to help you here, you just have to be willing to find them and use them.

    Am enjoying being here

College life is Great. I have made so many new friends. The people you meet treat you as if you have been their friend forever. I have been here for 4 months and still feel like I haven't seen everything or been everywhere. And everything is within your reach. Shopping on one side, food on another, the happenings on another and the hospital right here if you need it. Hopefully you won't but everything is right here near school.

    Bang for the buck

So many things to see, to do, to go and realize that I have plenty of time to do it all in over the next four years. This is a place worth your money.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come looking for a babysitter or your mom... You are on your own. It is up to you to do everything on your own... You do have people that is here to guide you. But college will be your starting point for growing up. If you have never had to do things on your own or make decisions on your own, then prepare yourself. But it is not hard if you have your head on straightt.

Great for these types of students

Keep your head up and in the books. The rest will become natural...Enjoy it all while doing it or you will regret it.

East Carolina has a very warm and welcoming environment. There's always something going on, academic or extracurricular, which adds to the fun of the college experience. ECU is a great place to be.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't get overwhelmed with the freedom that college brings; too many students get distracted by parties and forget that they are in Greenville to get an education.

    Academic Rigor

I would say that the academic rigor is the same as most universities. Many classes are challenging and require you to be studious, while other classes are less stressful.

    Dorm Life

I never lived in a dorm because I didn't like the idea of sharing a room and a bathroom.

    Food and Dining

ECU has two dining halls, I only ate in the one located on West End. They always had a great variety of foods, which didn't disappoint. There is also a Chick- fil- a and a Pirates Grill located on central campus, as well as a Chili's.

    What to do for fun

Many students spend their weekends going down town, which is located right next to the West End of Campus. Also, G- Vegas commonly holds pool parties at the various apartment complexes, which always has a huge turnout. ECU also hosts events, such as polar bear plunge, where students jump into ice- cold water just to win t-shirts.

    Campus Safety

So far East Carolina has been everything and more that I have expected. East Carolinas campus is the perfect size and the overall attitude of the student population is very positive and friendly. Not only is it a very enjoyable campus because of the people but the college is becoming more academically prestigious with majors such as nursing and business, because of the hard work and dedication put in by both the professors and students.

    Tips for prospective students

My main tip is to make sure you balance your academic and personal lives. Grades are very important and you have to work hard to earn them but college is also about the experience and it is good to take an earned break from school every now and again to enjoy it.

My second tip is to make sure you speak with your academic adviser so that way you guys are one the same page. So far my adviser has helped me with a lot of things and I am glad that I am able to ask her about anything.

My last tip is to make sure that you register for classes EARLY! Take the extra time to plan out your courses for the semester a week before registration. That way when classes open up you know exactly what classes you plan to take and you will have a better chance at getting the schedule you want.

    Academic Rigor

College is not supposed to be easy but it is manageable. You really have to go to class, pay attention, and apply yourself in order to learn everything as best as you can. Everyone has their strong points though and some classes are extremely easy while others can have you worrying throughout the semester. The point is to work hard and if you need help dont be afraid to ask.

    Dorm Life

Personally I lived in an apartment my first year of school and it was great. The freedom to be able to live on my own was an awesome experience. I have some friends that live in dorms though and after visiting them I kind of wish I lived in the dorms. It is probably the best way to meet new people as everyone else is in the same position as you and eager to make friends.

    Food and Dining

The food at East Carolina is pretty good. The dining halls usually offer three to four different main courses for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and also have a buffet for sides and salads.

    What to do for fun

East Carolina is known as a party school and it lived up to its name. Their is always something going on whether in the dorms or a nearby apartment complex and everyone is very friendly. Downtown Greenville is probably the main attraction for the night life as this is where all the clubs are and is packed almost every Thursday through Saturday. If clubbing isn't for you East Carolina has a student center open all night that has a bowling alley, movie theater, arcade room with pool tables, and various other lounges that allow students to interact with each other.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The only unusual location on campus that I can think of is the clock tower in front of the library. At midnight on nights with a full moon people have seen a clown come out of the clock. The clock also does different things at different hours of the day. Here is a good video that shows you all four. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBUmrD0d81I

Great for these types of students

East Carolina is great for types of students who want to earn a great education while enjoying college to the fullest. You do need to have some self control however and need to know when it is time to study and when it is time to party.

    Clubs and Activities

East Carolina has a great variety of different clubs and activities available for the students. These range from club sports teams to the adventure club where you can go kayaking or rock climbing, to the drama or art clubs. No matter what your interest I guarantee their is a club here that will fit anyone.

    Greek Life

Personally I am not in a frat or sorority but I do know a lot of people who are. It is a great way to meet new people and get yourself involved. The main excuse for not joining is the price but at East Carolina you can actually apply for financial aid to help you pay if you really want to be a part of the Greek life.

    Campus Safety

Personally I believe any college town has its dangers. You have to be careful of your surroundings at night and where you are. You also want to make sure that you are not alone. At ECU the campus makes sure lights are on 24/7 and their are also emergency call towers located all over campus to immediately reach 911 if you are having a problem.

    Food and Dining

The dining hall has a great variety of food, for all types of people. From vegetarians to meat lovers, there's always something available. And if you get tired of dining hall food, there's a Chic-Fil-A, Subway, Einstein Bros, and pasta place on campus!

the professors are extremely qualified. the campus is beautiful and creates community. i have grown mentally, spiritually and physically since my time at ecu.

    Tips for prospective students

make the library your second home. take advantage of the shows and performances, and make new friends!

    Academic Rigor

depending on your professor, there are difficult and more challenging courses. i try and take from a class as much as i can and focus on points of interest that will apply to me and my life. my advise is to introduce yourself to professors and ask genuine questions you think they could teach you about which will benefit you, your knowledge and future.

    Dorm Life

i particularly love my dorm this semester. i have my own room and it is in the perfect location. i also like living around a lot of other people, and i think it is a good way to meet people and experience the dorm life, which you will not have after college.

    Food and Dining

the dinning halls here are great, healthy food is always available, and the staff is lovely. one woman particularly for breakfast makes my morning, and you can find any food you like on campus. it really is great and the meal plans make life a lot easier.

    What to do for fun

there is so much to do. i especially like going to the gym and go for runs and swims with a few of my friends at a time. also, the middle of our campus called the mall is a beautiful green. when the weather is great it is fun to go play frisbee or lie out a blanket and read. there is also many art galleries downtown which i love to check out and local restaurants. it is the perfect college town.

    Bang for the buck

having the access to our library is the biggest and greatest privilege for me. i make a routine of going to the art section and finding out about another artist, their life and work almost daily. it has led me on so much discovery of other subjects, and other literature which have all added to my life. so many ideas, and discoveries are inspired by reading as many books as possible. the staff at the libraries and the amount of books and resources we have really gives you no limit to what knowledge you can achieve.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

one unusual spot is the four columns which lead to the joyner library. the person who donated money to build it put in a sensory reader that creates different wind chime like tones when you walk through it. it is something i have never seen at any other place and it always makes for a memorable moment in the day.

Great for these types of students

if you are independent, driven, social, and curious i think ecu is great for anyone with these qualities.

    Clubs and Activities

specifically our relay for life team is great. we were one of the top schools for raising money for cancer awareness and thousands of people participate in the all night event each year. it is a lot of fun. there is also a large amount of clubs thorough the gym where you can go on camping and water rafting trips etc...

    Greek Life

i am not involved but there is a greek life.

    Campus Safety

safety is great on campus. the town of greenville does have a bit of crime but almost all is off campus and in situations late at night in the rough areas of town.

the campus and weather is absolutely beautiful. the teachers are very helpful. the atmosphere can be described as a bit party-like.

    Tips for prospective students

get involved because it is a large campus. there are many interests and sports is a big deal.... attend the games because it gets you very motivated!

    Academic Rigor

depending on the level of class it can be challenging. the teachers are helpful and supportive, however. if you study, you will do very well.

    Dorm Life

i am not thrilled with the dorm situation. i find people a bit clicky and the rooms could be nicer. there are no sinks in the rooms. the r.a.'s seem to be in that role for the financial perks only.

    Food and Dining

the food is good. i would rate it a 3.5/5. the hours at the dining halls are adequate.

    What to do for fun

there are many clubs to join. the rec center is phenomenal! there is indoor and outdoor swimming, jogging track, workout center, movie theater and bowling. the green on the center of campus is a great place to just toss down a blanket and relax or read a book. there is always something to do!

    Bang for the buck

the tuition is reasonable when comparing to other state schools. the on campus activities are great for the price you pay. i feel it's a great bang for the buck.

Great for these types of students

this school and campus is great for the sport oriented student. being a pirate is a big deal here. it is a division i school and there is much pride in the athletics.

    Clubs and Activities

    multiple.

    Campus Safety

safety is a priority. there are many blue safety boxes. there are campus police always on duty. you never have to walk in the dark alone if you don't want to.

ecu is a wonderful college. as with any college, it is what you make of it, so ecu being a party school isn't true. this is a place where you will learn if you apply yourself.

    Tips for prospective students

go to class, and do your homework. good grades don't magically come out of the air. you need to do the work.

    Academic Rigor

school is work. some classes will be easier than others but chemistry and biology doesn't come by just showing up to class. you have to study.

    Dorm Life

it's a dorm, not home. so don't expect it to be. the halls are cleaned every day. the rooms are surprisingly spacious (i actually ended up bringing more stuff from home.) it can be loud at times but most of the time it's ok. you have internet, cable tv, fridge/microwave, air and heat. and if you live on campus you're required to have a meal plan.

    Food and Dining

not the best food in the world, especially in the dining halls. but the selection is great. if you don't want to eat at the dining hall there is chic-fil-a, einstein's bagels, pizza, mexican, hamburgers, etc. you do not lack food here.

    What to do for fun

it's a smaller town but there is a downtown that is geared for college students, a small mall, and a lake nearby. this is a big sports school too.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

if you ever hear someone shout purple expect to hear mutiple people shouting gold! especially around football season.

    Campus Safety

amazing school there is no where else i could picture myself being. being here, you will have the most fun you have ever had in your life. we are known as a party school and we do party hard, but we also study hard.

    Tips for prospective students

go to class! that is my recommendation to all new students. this is my freshman year and i have learned that going to class helps your test scores. so what if you have to wake up early for class! i know your pain and it totally stinks, but it is worth it. also, for spring semester you can schedule your classes for later times, so look forward to that.

    Academic Rigor

decent not hard just have to go to class. some classes might be harder than others, but if you just pay attention, read your book, and take notes you will do fine.

    Dorm Life

well if you want person space forget it. you trade that off for a social life and great friends to be around. dorm room aren't big, but they are not to small either. they have just enough room to sleep and do homework in.

    Food and Dining

food here is not the best, but it is enough to live off of. the dining halls have things that no one wants to eat and usually i just go for the fries and a burger. the only time food is really good and when the parental units come around.

    Clubs and Activities

there all sorts of clubs for people to join. you just have to look for one.

    Greek Life

    no comment. ;)

    Campus Safety

decent police are out in full force during the weekends. looking for underage drinking and people that are way to drunk. the police are there to help though and are very informative.

east carolina is a small, but i assure you that it's comfortable and right next to downtown. everyone here is really nice, with the exception of a couple professors and dorm mates. it's perfect for you if you want to don't want to walk 3o minutes to class every day.

    Tips for prospective students

bring rain boots and an umbrella. as the saying goes, ecu stands for everyone carries an umbrella. it's best to stay on campus your freshmen year so you can get to know the campus better.

    Academic Rigor

i think that the classes are pretty challenging, but if you make an attempt to go to class and do the assignment, then you should be fine.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is cool. you get to meet a lot of new people, but at times, your neighbors can get pretty loud while you're trying to study for a major test the next morning.

    Food and Dining

the food is pretty good, but it always depends on who's in the kitchen. but over all the food is good, and brunch is my favorite meal of the day, most of the staff is really nice too.

    What to do for fun

i often go downtown because it's right next to my dorm, but there's also mendenhall student center, which is the building for clubs, watching free movies, bowling, and billiards.

    Bang for the buck

i love ecu and it's so affordable. it may be cheaper than other universities out there, but keep in mind we have our own med school, so that's a plus for you pre-med majors. i think our academic vigor is just as good as any other school too.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are two really interesting facts that i'd like to share. first, there's the cupola, that's in the middle of the mall, and legend says that if you walk under it you won't graduate in 4 years. second, there's this clock tower right outside of joyner library, that has things come out of its center at certain times of the day, but at the stroke of midnight a clown comes out and recites a creepy poem.

    Clubs and Activities

there are so many clubs on campus, i found it hard to chose which one i wanted to be a part of.

    Bang for the buck

You learn a lot if you actually go to class.

    Tips for prospective students

First of all read the course syllabus. You can earn extra points just for reading it and asking questions about it. Second, go to class. That's what you are paying for to go so why not go? Plus some classes give out assignments during that time and if you don't do them it and really harm your grade and your GPA.

Great for these types of students

This is a huge school, therefore, it has a whole lot of teachers to get the job done. I've looked up my future professors on that teacher rating site and they all have amazing reviews. When I visited all of the faculty was extremely kind and helpful. Basically, if you put effort into your classes you will learn a whole lot and do well.

    Will enjoy being here

The campus is absolutely gorgeous! It's a good size and it's loaded with stuff to do. I have never seen a better rec center, the library looks great, and there are hundreds of clubs and organizations to join. Plus, by living in the dorms you will meet lots of people to go do stuff with. You should pretty much always have something to do.

    Bang for the buck

Okay, out-of-state tuition is vicious! I sure hope it will be worth it in the end. Schools in my state just couldn't beat ECU, so I felt like it would only be best to come here. With as much as ECU offers, I really do believe it will be worth the bang for the buck.

Great for these types of students

They offer so many different majors here, so even if you're undecided, you know you will have many options to choose from. They seem to be most popular with areas such as business, education, medical areas such as nursing and soon will be dentistry.
