    Am learning a lot

I am learning a lot it especially in the history class I took in the spring. My professor was had a lot on knowledge about the subject and he enjoyed teaching.

    Am enjoying being here

I love campus! Football games, basketball game! and a brand new rec center!

    Bang for the buck

It's definitely a bang for your buck! The school is located in a college town! If you feel the town is a little to small you drive on the free way about 20 minutes and your in Spokane the second largest city in WA. If that's not enough about an hour away from Cheney is Idaho where there is a great theme park!

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! That is so important as a new student coming into the university! There as so many different types of people on campus it is basically impossible not to meet some people that you will not click with.

Great for these types of students

EWU is good for all types of students! Its really ideal for students that are looking for a university experience without spending a lot of money. If you are looking for one on one help or meeting with your professor Eastern has about 24:1 ratio in most classes so you will never have a problem talking to your professor and setting a meeting time if you need help.

    Am learning a lot

So far, all of my professors have been amazing! They go over the course material in such a way that everyone in the class can understand what is being discussed and be able to apply what they have learned in practical settings.

    Am enjoying being here

Since EWU is on the smaller side, you really get the individual attention that one would not be able to get from going to a larger college. I also love how beautiful and manicured the campus is. Also, if you need to get away for a bit, Spokane is only 20 minutes away.

    Bang for the buck

I live a bit further away from Cheney, so I have a 40 minute commute. What I love about being a student at EWU is that you are able to ride the city transportation for free anytime you want. I love how clean and easy the bus system is because it saves me a lot of money not having to buy gas for my gas guzzler.

    Tips for prospective students

Just be ready to become apart of the EWU family. The academic advisors are amazing, if you have any questions just give them a call and they can help you out.

Great for these types of students

EWU is great for all types of students. Even though we are small, we have quite a diverse population in both; ethnicity and career paths.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers here are very good in most subjects. The classes are small and most teachers try and get to know there students. The teachers are also very involved in their work and are in their offices during office hours.

    Am enjoying being here

Although Cheney is a small town, it is only fifteen miles away from Spokane. Eastern also has many on campus activities. These include intramural sports, NCAA sanctioned sporting events, movies, and other fun activities throughout the year. The new rec center also provides great opportunities to work off some stress by playing basketball, running, or lifting weights. The food here is also not bad which is always a plus.

    Tips for prospective students

Eastern is not terribly expensive, but it has great academics and a good atmosphere. Eastern allows people to go to school and get a great education while not spending every last penny they have trying to get an education.

Great for these types of students

Students who like small class sizes, but doesn't want to go to a tiny college would fit in well at Eastern Washington University. Eastern is also good for people who like being in a smaller town, but being close enough to a big city to be able to visit it and spend time in the big city any day of the week.

    Am learning a lot

College is a whole new experience compared to high school! In and out of the classrooms you learn a lot about yourself, your new community, college, your favorite subjects, and new cultures! The professors here are great, and if you do happen to fall behind, there are many programs that are VERY helpful to get you back on track. And, of course, you can always pull a 4 hour study group with your closest friends in the enormous JFK library.

    Am enjoying being here

Though Cheney is a little ways away from my home, the people here are amazing! Eastern is a smaller campus, so there is no way you can go from one class to another without passing at least three friends. The only downside for me is the snow during the winter, but you're almost always guaranteed at least ONE snow day per year! Though Cheney is small, you're only 30 minutes from Spokane, Washington's 2nd largest city!

    Bang for the buck

Eastern has the cheapest tuition of any four year university in Washington state! Financial aid and scholarships have paid for most of my schooling, and your advisors are there to help make sure you stay on track to keep that money. Choosing Eastern was one of the smartest decisions I've made. I love the campus, the people, most of the professors, and the community!

    Tips for prospective students

I remember most of my high school friends saying that they wanted to go to a big name college, one that was also big in size. The best thing about Eastern is that it's smaller. Every class is within 7 minutes of any place, and you get to know a lot more people. The classrooms are awesome and the campus is beautiful. If you visit, try imagining yourself as a student walking around and living here for 4 or more years. If you can see yourself here, and liking it, chances are Eastern is for you.

Great for these types of students

Eastern is perfect for anyone. While being here, I've seen so much diversity it's hard to say who this school is best for. If you are a human being who breathes air and wants to go to college, this place is perfect for you!

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes really help with learning the material. they're small enough to be able to ask questions in class, and have the teacher still hear you from way in the back. The teachers also want to make sure you understand where the concept they're teaching comes from, you they explain things thoroughly.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Cheney, WA. It's a small town that is easily accessible with out needing to bring a car your first years here. However, if you do need something else to do, Spokane is 15 minutes away, and you can take the free bus with your EagleCard.

    Bang for the buck

At Eastern, you're not paying as much as other big University's in the state, and you still get the true feeling of going away for college, and starting something big. However, staying in the dorms is great the first year, but it gets pricey after that. There are plenty of apartment complexes near, and many houses to rent with your friends for the next years to come.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for ANY/EVERY scholarship available, it's free money, and so much better than having to pay it back after college. Apply for jobs on-campus early. They're really flexible with your class schedule for each quarter, and on breaks. You will also have enough time in the day after work and classes to study, eat and chill.

    Am learning a lot

Ever since i started going to school here, i have learned so much about myself and what i am capable of doing. Being at EWU, i have done very well in class and am becoming more and more interested in being a Juvenile Counselor for my future career. The staff and students are an excellent help when you have any questions. There is no other place i would want to be.

    Am enjoying being here

The Campus is absolutely amazing, it feels safe and comfortable. It is small, but i love that since i have enough time to get all of my classes on time. I got involved with a sorority, and don't regret it one bit. I have made amazing friends and i love being involved with campus activities and other events. I love the people here, the teachers, the little town. Its amazing! There is not any day that goes by where i don't see someone i know, it is a great transition from High School, you always feel welcome where ever you go and making friends is a breeze!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to many other Universities, EWU isn't all that expensive. Plus the financial aid that is offered with the scholarships and grants, it really helps. There is no way i could pay for college, coming from my background. i am so so thankful that Eastern is able to help me pay for school, knowing that after i graduate i will be able o pay it all back with my successful job i earn from being educated at EWU.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely come visit the campus, it is beautiful! As a freshman, i recommend you live in the dorms, it is a fantastic way to meet people and then its a great transition going from home to there. Then after you can live more on your own. For sure you need to get involved. whether its through a club, Greek life, campus activities. It looks very good on resumes and just feels good to say that you are having an impact on your school. :)

Great for these types of students

Small Campus, Friendly peers and staff, Many activities, great class choices, wonderful living spaces, Great area, beautiful and drastic seasons, Close to Spokane. Any future student who is interested in coming to EWU, I believe you will love it and it will be a great experience! i was nervous at first, but now, i wouldn't want to be at any other University. Its time to start something big!

    Am learning a lot

Just like with any other college experience, there are amazing teachers who are there to help you almost every day, and there are classes where the text book is a more useful resource than the prof. Overall though, it is a good learning experience. The class sizes are generally on the smaller side compared to some of the bigger state schools, allowing for you actually get to know your profs rather than just being a number. I can say with experience that the computer science program is wonderful. Many of the teachers have real world experience and can not only teach you the content, but can share their stories and job experiences.

    Am enjoying being here

I am in my second year at EWU and greatly enjoy being here. It's located in the small town of Cheney, giving it a really legit college town feel, but at the same time is only about 15 min outside of Spokane, making weekend possibilities virtually endless. The prof's and staff are for the most part friendly and helpful. The only thing that may put a damper on it for some students is the winter. Being right outside of Spokane you can usually expect quite a bit of snow for most of the season.

    Bang for the buck

EWU is cheaper than most of the bigger state schools, and easily cheaper than the private ones. I highly suggest not living in dorms after your freshman year though. There are lots of off campus options close to the school, that many times end up being cheaper than dorms and the expensive food plans they offer, if you can find a roommate. Overall though, EWU is a good choice if you're looking for a more affordable school.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're moving from somewhere warmer or that doesn't get much snow, be prepared for the harsh winter. Boots are an absolute must. Also, be sure to participate and freshman orientation, as well as activities your dorm floor may hold. They make all the difference in helping you get socially adjusted.

Great for these types of students

Students who are looking for a *starter* college and considering transferring to a bigger one later on.
Students who are seeking a financially feasible college
Students who are looking for the small college, small town experience

    Am learning a lot

There are plenty of great professors here. There are also lots of different options for classes and studies. Some of the classes i took (gecker wise) didn't have a lot to do with anything for my major but they were interesting.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the feel of campus and seeing the squirrels just running around ignoring the people. The campus is very pretty too. It feels like a home should over here and there are plenty of great people to hang out with.

    Bang for the buck

Eastern is pretty cheap and I feel like I am getting a great education and life experience here.

    Tips for prospective students

The math program here is not the best so unless you have a handle on math going for a math major here is not ideal.

Great for these types of students

    Science majors and music majors.

Every other winter was pretty bad but the summers and falls are ok. Academics in history, philosophy and other social sciences rate 8/10. I learned from classmates that math and natural sciences subjects are maybe a 6/10, Mainly both of those are on faculty and curriculum. EWU needs more cultural diversity for a 11k population public university but there are many recreational activities get into in your by-time.

    Tips for prospective students

Watch and protect your GPA. Use Fast fitness and other 1 or 2 credit PE classes to serve as a buffer for main and core classes that you may have to drop for whatever reason. Pay attention to drop dates deadlines for each quarter and keep your credit at financial aid goal limits, go to the writing center if you need help with papers, proofread and do all assignments at least a day before the due date and buy student manuals and other book tools for math classes online- not through the school, they help.

    Academic Rigor

Social sciences are good. Teachers and social workers will like this school. Natural sciences are more in need of better instructors though. Some are good but shop and ask around for the best teachers.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus and it is kool. The dorms are fine too.

    Food and Dining

There are many kool cafes and eateries on campus- also the eagle i.d. card is also a card that you can use at the some of the local fast food places if you have money on it. Places like Carl's JR. and Subway take it.

    What to do for fun

The new recreation center offers local high school and college games in hockey but you can work out in the rec center 7 days a week for free as a student. There are EWU sport all year round for free as a student too and intermurals pick up teams. Clubs and lectures along with other campus activities are fun too. The city of Spokane, Gonzaga and Whitworth are close by too.

    Bang for the buck

I think we have the cheapest 4 year tuition in the state of Washington. If you can handle the above tips and separate your party life from your academic business then you'll be fine. Adapt to the Eurocentric culture if you are use to some other cultural setting and remember why you're there, to get your degree.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Bring a blanket for the football games- it gets pretty cold out there.

Great for these types of students

Future teachers and and graduate students. I am in the MPA program at Spokane Riverpoint and its a good program.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs to choose from. I was in boxing club for a season, but I used to participate in the BSU. I learned that the culture of BSU or Black Student Union was more internationally focused rather than centering from a Black American perspective and then outwards to the community though.

    Greek Life

They have good Greek life and spirit on campus.

    Campus Safety

EWU has a small police force, so that's kool. They post warnings on the school website and are seen around the campus a lot.

I've been attending for 2 quarters. So far, so good. Instructors at Riverpoint are awesome.

    Tips for prospective students

It would've been better if instead of transferring from SFCC I wouldve got the Direct Transfer Agreement.

    Academic Rigor

The Business degree classes are fun and exciting. That keeps it interesting and helps me maintain my 4.0.

    Dorm Life

I dont live in the dorms.

    Food and Dining

Coffee at the Riverpoint campus is alright and they have good sandwiches.

    What to do for fun

Use the student ID at AMC on thursdays for discount. Zumba!

    Bang for the buck

Best priced university in the area. Except the online classes cost a lot more to take than the campus classes.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I like attending the Riverpoint campus so I dont have to drive all the way to Cheney from Spokane. But only the business classes are downtown.

Great for these types of students

The business classes at riverpoint are good for people who work in the day, but it still requires some flexibility because the earlier classes start at 4.

    Clubs and Activities

Not involved in any extra things yet.

    Greek Life

    Not involved

    Campus Safety

I like the safety at the riverpoint campus The blus towers in the parking lots have cameras too.

ewu is a diverse school with a dynamic campus that is set in the beautiful and rural city of cheney, wa. ewu offers a wide variety of pertinent programs that are competetive within today's job market. ewu goes that extra mile to ensure the success of all their students and make education worthwhile.

    Tips for prospective students

don't be afraid to ask questions. sometimes you have to go higher up to get results. always ask for a supervisor if your issues aren't being resolved by customer service. always inquire about financial grants, scholarships, and fellowships that you might be eligible for to help offset the cost of attending school and do not have to be paid back to a lender.

    Academic Rigor

the academic staff at ewu are full of life and knowledge and care about the success of students. topics are current and curriculum is in line with what's happening in 2012.

rating eastern washington as a whole would be a tough question to ask just one student based on his or her experiences, however i would rate my experience a 9 out of 10. the transition phases that any student goes through are going to be extremely difficult, however eastern's experience in this phase have not been surpassed by any outside sources so far as i am familiar with.

    Tips for prospective students

keep in mind that college is for learning. take advantage of any resources that may sneak you past a stumbling block in the road. tackle any challenges that may be presented in front of you. don't be afraid to put extra time in outside of the classroom, and outside of your normal social function. you may remember your friends, however they do not decide your career path. take advantage of every situation to put your self in the best place possible for future success.

    Academic Rigor

the academic rigor that you will encounter will be the same for everybody. however your attitude and a effort is what you can measure, not the score presented in front of you. everything that you earn in life will be out of ones will to survive. keep that in mind when you glance around at your fellow students, and learn to point your nose in the right direction.

    Dorm Life

never had the chance to experience dorm life, however i was fortunate enough to realize that this is a transition process from high school and that some of your closest friends may not be there for you because of other priorities. overall they enjoyed there experience and both graduated on time because of their decision to take on the added pressures of dorm life. join the dorms!

    Food and Dining

the food and dining options available are built for the student, and how you choose is up to you. every type of food is offered in a healthy manner. having a choice is what they truly care about and keeping a balanced meal plan is what eastern offers their students.

    What to do for fun

there are numerous activities involved with any institution. however i found that eastern catered to my liking with sports clubs. it is what you are into and you dont have to be a competitive person to have fun recreating. they have outdoor clubs for hiking and camping as well.

    Bang for the buck

you get a plentiful amount of bang for your buck. eastern offers a huge step above any community college or trade school by offering programs and focused support for your particular wants and needs. however nothing is handed to you so you make any college special by the attitude and effort you bring to the table everyday. for the half price of attending a state school you wont be surprised at the amount of pleasure you will have by attending this school.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

there are a number of religious institutions on campus that offer a sanctuary for higher learning. these meetings offer the student a well needed escape from the everyday rigors one would experience. this also creates a safe zone if nothing else is working for you.

Great for these types of students

this school is great for the person who loves to fit in and have fun with a great group of students. you will need to adapt on the run and make new friends along the way, don't be afraid to immediately branch out to break through any social barriers you might be accustomed to. outgoing people who love to flourish in any environment would be my top choice.

    Clubs and Activities

there are numerous clubs from which to choose from it depends widely on your interest level and how you wish to apply that. if you are an avid fisher, then there are fishing clubs. if you love a ferociously active lifestyle then eastern offers running clubs. also if you love to dodge certain situations then maybe dodge ball intramurals would fit you like a glove.

    Greek Life

the greek life is on a smaller scale to the state schools however you will be served with all of the makings for an at large bid when you decide to rush for this college. you will make more friends than you can count and you will have a fulfillinf experience to say the least.

    Campus Safety

campus has security, and cheney has the police force that are constantly surveying the field for any troublmakers. if you still have a safety concern then you can take that up with your community advisor who is located on your dorm floor. he or she might be able to file reports, or consult with the your personal wants and needs.

great price for out of state students who participate in wue- instate tuition plus half. cheney is a small area- you enter and exit the whole town in 30 min or less- so if you want something big, this is not the place. on the positive side, it has lakes and mountains that aren't too far away plus a wide range of majors one can choose from.

    Tips for prospective students

your learning experience is what you make of it. if in cheney, try clubs and organizations for social interaction. i would rent an apt with someone as it is not expensive.

    Academic Rigor

because it is such a small town, the officers are helpful and friendly. on orientation day, they came in and said they would rather have a student call in and say they are too drunk to drive than drive out on their own- the officers said they would help them get home safely if they called. when i fainted from donating too much blood at a blood bank, the head firefighter gave me a lift to my apt and made sure i was on the couch safely.

Most definitely! I just finished my first quarter at Eastern, and my brain almost burst from all of the new information and concepts I learned. It feels great to learn so much.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a nice campus and is not as intimidating as other 4 year universities. All of the professors I have had so far are extremely nice and sincerely want you to succeed. In addition, Eastern offers many different undergrad and grad programs to accommodate almost anyone.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very inexpensive compared to most other universities and with your SID card, you can take the bus anywhere for free.

    Tips for prospective students

Just apply and you'll most likely get accepted without a problem.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want to attend college in a more quiet, rural setting. The campus is just the right size. In addition, Eastern is great for students who are tight on money and need to go somewhere where the cost of tuition is lower. Also, Eastern is a fairly easy college to get into, so you should have no problem getting accepted.

This school is really a fantastic campus. The only down side is the math department. T.A.'s teach the classes while the professor writes the tests, so the test is a lot harder than anything you covered even on the homework. The communication barrier between the T.A. and the professor seems to be lazy. Teachers for biology, African studies, computer sciences all are very well equipped for what they are teaching.

    Am enjoying being here

The teachers are enjoyable, as are most of the students. Made lots of good friends my third day of class. You can easily coordinate your classes when registering for them, so that you don't have to run across campus to get to class on time.

    Bang for the buck

Prices have gone up, but it is still cheaper than most. The technology in the science department is a little old, but for the price, it works.

It's Cheney, a small town that doesn't have much going on. But the town grows on you and the campus always has free events going on, besides you make so many friends, even as a socially awkward individual like me, that it's hard not to have fun.

    Bang for the buck

As one of the cheapest universities in Washington this school still competes academically and socially with UW and WSU. I know students at both these schools and comparing my experience to theirs, I'd say I'm getting more bang for my buck than they are. EWU has a sense of community and teachers that know your name and want to teach you new and exciting things. I haven't heard anything that good from students at UW or WSU.

    Tips for prospective students

Live in the dorms your first year, even if you and your roommate don't work well together, like mine and myself, it works itself out in the end. Living in the dorms makes sure you meet new people, network for homework help, or mental support, and is proven to help you get to class more often than not. If you live at your parents or off campus you have to put in the extra effort to go to events, meet people, and get up and commute to class.

Great for these types of students

If you love learning and like to get to know your teachers this is the place for you. If you like small towns and being a part of a community that sticks together, apply to Eastern Washington University.

The faculty professors here really know what they are teaching. They have first hand experiences in their subjects, and know good ways to teach the material. The Forensics, Criminal Justice, and Music Programs are probably the best offered around the state.

    Am enjoying being here

Being a small town campus, the community is really tight knit. After being here just one year, I already feel like I know most of the people around. I see somebody I know everywhere I go.

    Bang for the buck

This is the cheapest University in the state, and is also the best deal. Some people might say, you get what you pay for, but compared to other schools in Washington, you definitely get way more than you pay for.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely live in the residence halls your first year on campus. It helps you meet new students and make new friends. And also, talk to the University Police Officers here. They are here to help, like talking to students, and are just as much Police Officers as anywhere else in the state, and even go to the same Police Academy. They are an excellent resource.

The professors here at EWU are very flexible with meeting their students needs when they are in need with their academics. The smaller class sizes makes it easier to learn and ask questions freely and confidently. There are many study groups for each course that students may choose to attend if needed. The professors are definitely here to teach you what you need for your future careers.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being a student here at EWU. There are many events for students around campus to attend and feel they are part of the institute. The campus is not so big you feel lost, not to small you feel your only a number, but just perfect you notice most faces around campus. The campus being the perfect size, buildings are being updated, enough lights are on at night to feel safe and secure, and you really don't feel like your in a school environment with town houses near. Even though EWU it is located in a small town there is a big city to drive to. You can leave whenever you feel the need to either a city you are used to or stay in small calm town.

    Bang for the buck

Sign up for any scholarship/grants available. That is what is paying my way through EWUs tuition. EWUs tuition is very reasonable and cheapest in WA.

Eastern Washington University has some great programs and excellent professors, but is limited and small. Its curriculum is not too bad but the general requirement classes are pointless and time-consuming in a way.

    Am enjoying being here

EWU wasn't my first choice but over time and becoming more involved in my major and program, I have become accustomed and used to the area, the buildings, the way things work, the professors, and other aspects of the college. It is small, but creates a close community, especially in the dorms.

    Bang for the buck

It is not too expensive to go here, which is nice because their program, major, minor, and graduate options are very limited. Also, EWU is going to start cutting out programs, both undergraduate and graduate ones because of financial issues. You get a decent education here, but there are other school that are better.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you get your general education requirements done right away, or even take care of some of them in high school. It is a money-saver to go to community college for the first two years, and you are basically learning the same thing but for free and you don't get the freshman college experience. Be prepared for a small town and for a high-school feel when on campus. If transferring, make sure to know for sure that your credits will transfer or did transfer

Great for these types of students

Students who know exactly what they want to study/do.
Students who like smaller colleges and campuses.
Students who have taken all of the core classes and gen.ed. classes beforehand.

If you've gone to a good high school and taken some college prep classes, some of the freshman introductory classes can seem pretty easy. The GECRs (General Education Core Requirements) are, depending on the classes you sign up for, more or less review classes. My recommendation? Take Advanced Placement or IB classes (or Running Start) in your interests so you can test out of the introductory classes...and get started on what really interests you! Once the classes are in the 300 and 400 level (like some of mine), they become very interesting and challenging to students. One of the good things, however, is that EWU has small classes, so students and professors can really develop relationships with each other and students aren't just a number in the gradebook.

    Am enjoying being here

If you're from a larger city, like me, Cheney is a nice change of pace. It's a small city so you've got that small city feel and look, but its within a 30min. bus ride to Spokane, a much larger city. For those of you who like snow, we get a lot! The winter lasts for a while, but everything that you'd need is within a bus ride and short walking distance, so the snow doesn't inconvenience anyone too much...unless you get snowed in, of course. School wise, all of the professors I've had are very happy to give advice and help to their students, even if it's just a pointer on an essay or an answer to a question from that day's lecture. The professors make it fun to come to class, and really contribute to the good environment EWU has.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is pretty reasonable, compared to other schools. Since EWU is on a 3 quarter system, students at Eastern can take more classes than those on the semester system for the same price. Unlike other colleges/universities, where summer credits or overload credits can run close to $700 (or more) per credit, EWU costs less than $300 per credit hour. Finally, EWU has a new (2008) Recreation Center that serves students very well. With plans to rennovate the Pence Student Uninion Building and build a new residential dorm, EWU is offering its students many facilities with modern ammenities.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Take AP/IB/Running Start classes. They can help knock out those freshman class requirements and help get you started on your major of interest sooner.
    2. Understand the weather! If you don't like to be cold for much of the year, it might not be a good idea to go here, since winter seems to last forever and temperatures during the winter months rarely get above 40 degrees farenheit.
    3. Visit! See the campus and get a feel for the city and the school, as well as the students here.

Great for these types of students

EWU is great for students who want a good, affordable education in a smaller public university setting. It's great for those who want to try a few new classes to see where their interests lie. The best part, though, is that Eastern is great for the students who like smaller classes, since class sizes are pretty small, especially after the introductory courses.

I have taken as many classes as I could each quarter, in a whole host of disciplines. Some of the classes that I took just to add interest to my schedule became the highlight of my week and helped me to pull through the tough times in my major / minor classes.

    Am enjoying being here

This school has a good atmosphere. The campus is small, so you get to know your professors and your classmates, especially if you have more than one class together. It is fun to always be seeing people you know or recognize.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition here is less than anywhere else in the State. The professors here are really top-quality, and their classes are great. Those who teach here really care about their students. The price of food is always going up and the meal plan is a bit quirky, but overall, it works well.

    Tips for prospective students

Read the text. Sit up front. Come to class prepared. Come to class! Search out scholarships and apply for them like a maniac. If you live in the dorms, make sure you get the early sign-up bonuses (the more years in the dorms, the bigger the bonus). Make it a point to thank the people who help you (keep a stash of thank-you cards). Extend your friendship to the International Students. Never, never, never give up. & WALK for goodness sake.

Eastern Washington University brings in many different professors from different backgrounds, being a science major, most of my professors are at the University due to research grants. Each professor is highly educated in their specific subject and they have a love for it that cannot be paralleled. That love ended up rubbing off onto me and I became more passionate about subjects I had only a slight interest in before.

    Am enjoying being here

Eastern Washington University is located in Cheney, WA which is a small college town about 20 miles out of Spokane. I never had the chance to live on campus but EWU makes it easy for students to commute in from Spokane through the bus system. It's a quiet community with a large city not far away, so you can have the best of both worlds.

    Bang for the buck

In these tough economic times, it's hard to find a college that gives you a good price for the education you receive. Eastern Washington University is a state-funded college, so it isn't as expensive as other places. They also have lots of housing around Cheney for students and apartments are usually easy to find in Spokane. For the most part, Eastern gives it's students what they want and need, a good education for a reasonable price.

    Tips for prospective students

There are so many things that I could tell prospective students, such as get involved in school activities, make sure and touch base with your professors ever now and then, do your homework, etc, etc. But college is about finding yourself and who you are, so the advice I give is worth way less than the advice you'll figure out for yourself.

Great for these types of students

Eastern is great for all types of students, I've heard great things about all their programs, mainly their education program. But it's also a great place to get a basic bachelor's degree to use to go onto different graduate school programs, whether they be at Eastern or else where.

I definitely feel like I am learning a lot at EWU. I am only in the second quarter of my sophomore year but I already feel like I've learned as much as four years of college. The classes I've taken, especially the required freshman classes, have been especially interesting. I am also really excited to begin classes for my major, as I feel I will learn a lot from them.

    Am enjoying being here

EWU has a beautiful campus all year around and I love spending time between classes outside in the sun. There are a lot of places for students to hang out with friends too. This campus really feels like home as everyone I've encountered has been very welcoming and helpful.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to other universities, EWU is very cheap. However, I still feel like I am getting my money's worth. I am able to participate in many different activities despite the low tuition. The classes are superb, as are the professors. EWU is definitely worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to be undecided as far as majors go. You really do have time to try out different majors before you have to declare. I finally settled on the third major I looked into and I am so glad I did not just go for the first interest I had because I truly feel like I am going into the perfect career for me. It's okay to try things out before you decide.

Great for these types of students

EWU is great for all types of students. There are so many different majors and minors offered that anyone and everyone can get into a program that fits them. EWU also offers a wide variety of clubs and organizations for students. These clubs and organizations range from religious groups to athletic groups to groups that focus on different hobbies. With all that is offered at EWU, I am confident that every student can find things that interest them.

I attend class on the Bellevue campus. The times are convenient and the classes are intimate. I am very satisfied with my education here.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for upper division classes, they are much more challenging than the first two years of college.

    Academic Rigor

I improved my communication skills with my professors. If you're having trouble keeping up with the work, talk to your prof, they are there to help you.

    Dorm Life

I did not live in dorms.

    Food and Dining

I did not experience EWU dining.

    What to do for fun

In Bellevue there are tons of things to do outside of the mall/dining/shopping/entertainment. There are trails and hikes within 20 minutes of campus.

    Bang for the buck

This program is definitely worth the money. I am happy that I was able to work in the daytime and attend class at night.

Eastern Washington University is a four year University that offers great education for its students. The teacher to students ration is fairly good, with teachers that really care about their students success. The campus is also big enough to have a the feel of a big with while being small enough that it does not intimidate its students.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip to prospective students is to start their college career hitting the ground running. sit at the front of the classroom and go to class everyday, start off with your easier classes so that you may get a feel for how college works and that you don't feel overwhelmed. Do the best you can in these classes as to boost your GPA, since your major classes will be harder. Always ask your teachers for help and keep track of your progress in class. One thing that is very true about your teachers is: if you go to class every day and participate and turn in all your assignments, your teachers will work with you until the end. Breaks are earned not given.

    Academic Rigor

Academic rigor at Eastern varies with the course demands. While your typical 100 level courses aren't very rigorous by design, they still are very useful and prepare you for the rigors of the 200-400 level classes. With that said the teachers are your most valuable assets while in school and will help you navigate the rigors of their course. Eastern also offers academic success centers for students that find classes difficult.

    Dorm Life

When I lived in the dorms i absolutely enjoyed it, the staff are always nice and will to help you transition and adjust to the college life. The dorm stuff puts together activities for the dorm and really try to get to know everyone that lives there. The staff at the dorms i lived in, and from the other dorms as well, strive to make the dorms not only a community, but a family.

    Food and Dining

The food is like any other cafeteria food, however Eastern recently opened the University Recreation Center with a new restaurant called the Roost. The roost is a show kitchen, that has some really great food, everything is prepared for you as you order it, rather than just picking up food that has been sitting under a hot lamp. I must admit that the Roost is really good and more preferable than the cafeteria food.

    What to do for fun

Eastern recently opened the University Recreation Center. The URC is a full gym with an indoor track, a full hockey/skating ring, basketball court, and rock climbing wall. Eastern also has a indoor pool which is open all year round. Around Cheney there is beautiful scenery. Turnbull wildlife refuge and Fish Lake are not far from campus for the outdoor type of people. Along with some great trail for biking and hiking as well. If a student prefers gaming, Eastern offers two computer labs dedicated to online gaming, which is up to date with latest and most popular games.

    Bang for the buck

With anything in life, you get out what you put into it. While i personally feel that college is too expensive, at Eastern Washington University, I feel that i am getting bang for my buck. I am getting a great education and i don't feel overwhelmed with debt. Eastern offers a general scholarship for students that helps minimized the amount of loans needed. Also i have come to find out that the grants the school offers based on need, are very generous for those that qualify, however students should really stick to the deadlines to received the full benefits.

Great for these types of students

Eastern is a great school fro students that are determined to succeed in class. Whether you are a genius or an average student, you will find that if you have the motivation to succeed in class and you struggle your teachers will help you succeed.

    Clubs and Activities

Students at eastern are very involved in a variety of clubs and activities. The school offers a variety of Intramural sports for all types of students.

    Campus Safety

While I have been attending Eastern I have not heard of many criminal activities. However if they do occur, the Cheney and EWU police are quick to respond and resolve the matter. The collaboration between the Cheney and EWU police, makes me feel very safe and at ease.

Eastern Washington University in Cheney Washington is a college were everyone tries to help you succeed in everything that you want to do. They help you plan out your schedule and have many different degrees in which you can branch out to. The school is clean and offer many opportunities to students to attend social events and entertainment is provided in many different aspects. The dining service is amazing and the housing is equally amazing. That being said I rate Eastern Washington University with the highest rating possible.

    Tips for prospective students

The campus is large so when you get your schedule I would look on their website for a map and make sure you know the quickest route to each class from wherever you will be at. check your student email regularly and when you leave your dorm DO NOT FORGET YOUR CARD!!! take care of your books so you can return them to the book store at the end of the quarter for a partial refund. and when you use the dinning services I would advise printing the schedule so you know what is open on each day and what time they close.

    Academic Rigor

Like I said before everyone wants to help you and are very aggressive with the dealings for your future, they want to help you no matter the cost to them.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are amazing but sometimes neighbors can be loud and the hallways can stink up if everyone isn't careful with their trash disposal. The dorms are cleaned regularly though and the bathrooms are always clean.

    Food and Dining

There are several different places to go to get yourself something to eat I recommend swoops or the pub to any prospective students.

    What to do for fun

There are usually posters about different events that go on throughout the year like dances, open mike night and different talent shows you can do to. the school also has a game arcade, a swimming pool and basketball courts. Lots of fun opportunities are available you just have to keep you eyes open.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many different clubs and activities that you can join. usually they are posted around campus or on the EWU.EDU website.

    Campus Safety

Eastern Washington University is very big on safety, many procedures and safety tips are posted in various places around the school and they take threats to the safety of their students very seriously.

Eastern Washington University is such a great school to attend if you are looking for a more intimate and small college. It's faculty and staff are above and beyond when it comes to academics and campus life. The education that you get at Eastern will help you get started on something big, your future.

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely recommend that you get out of your comfort zone and get involved with the school. There are so many great opportunities around campus that you could miss out on if you live like a hermit crab in the dorms. Get out there, make friends, and make your college experience a memorable one.

    Academic Rigor

Since Eastern Washington University is a smaller school, it makes the classes very intimate and you get a lot of one on one interaction with the professors. They are always willing to help and there are tutoring programs here that give you even more opportunities to learn and help. Eastern wants you to succeed and they give you a ton of options to do so.

    Dorm Life

Eastern's dorms are very nice and accommodating. Of course, your privacy is limited, but in the end you are meeting people and experiencing college like everybody should. As long as you make the most of it, then you'll be fine.

    Food and Dining

The food here is really good, but can sometimes get monotonous. Swoops and the Roost are the best on campus by far, but Tawanka, the buffet style dining hall, is good for if you want something quick or you need to use meal counts. Overall, the quality of the food is good and the atmosphere is fun.

    What to do for fun

While Cheney is a small town, it still has plenty of options when it comes to having fun. There are multiple shows, events, dances, etc that the school's ASB and the greek system put on. Along with that, Zip's is open all day and night, there is a bowling ally that is just 1/2 a mile from campus, and when you have friends and an imagination, you can basically find anything fun to do here.

    Bang for the buck

At Eastern, you are paying for the foundation of a bright future. The money used ensures that one is getting the best professors, education, food, and campus life that one should endure over the course of a college experience. They do a lot to make sure you are getting what you need in order to succeed.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is this really awesome tradition for the freshman, it's called passing the pillars. Moments before the procession, the students gather for their class picture. Then they walk through the pillars and up the brick pathway that leads to historic Showalter Hall. Faculty, staff and alumni line the pathway cheering on the students as they begin their Eastern journey. It's amazing and gives you the encouragement that they need.

Great for these types of students

If a student is a very hands on learner and can consume information better in a smaller classroom, then Eastern Washington University is the right school for them. It's not as small as a high school, but isn't as huge as a state school. It's also a very athletic school, so if you are a sporty type, then Eastern is right for you.

    Clubs and Activities

There are a ton of clubs to join here at Eastern Washington. You can even make up your own club if we don't have it here. From drama to science to inter mural sports, there is something for everyone.

    Greek Life

Our greek system here is so much fun. There is almost always something going on every weekend. Some of the events they put on for the whole school gets a lot of attention and a lot of great feedback. While I have not rushed, it's still fun to be a part of the cliche greek life system by supporting them in events, going to their parties, and enjoying what they do for the school.

    Campus Safety

There is rarely a day when I don't run into a campus police officer paroling the campus, making sure everything is safe and sound. They are always giving us updates if something is wrong or we need to be a little more careful. There are also little stations that you can go to if you are scared and need to get escorted or just want to get walked home. They are here to serve, protect, and make sure we stay safe. With that, I always feel comfortable and not as worried with them here on campus. Every dorm has their own specific policeman, which makes sleeping at night a lot more sound.

It's a nice school, though I don't like that people can smoke anywhere outside on campus. All the teachers I have had are nice, though Eastern doesn't have the best Math department, as a few people told me before I started attending. They do have some super awesome professors in the Education department though.

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your professors. When you start filling out scholarship and job applications, they'll want letters of recommendations from your past professors.

    Academic Rigor

It definitely depends on the professor, I think. Some of the professors expect a lot out of their students, while others don't care too much. In general, the academics are not too demanding, in my experience, but also not too terribly easy either.

    Food and Dining

I'm not sure what the food is like, but the PUB is a nice place to hang out and do homework at.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

When the PUB Building is really warm, my friends and I discovered that sitting in the stairwell is much cooler. We got a few weird looks and some funny comments, but it was much more comfortable to study in there. And aside from the occasional passing student, we were by ourselves.

    Campus Safety

Awesome. EWU has their own police force on campus and there's security towers located all around campus from which anyone can call the campus police for any emergency. I feel very safe there.

I find this university is what you pay for. A cheap price for a cheaper education. Other than that the place is fine, nothing really spectacular.

    Tips for prospective students

I would say visit first, go into the department you think you will study in and gauge the quality of the student body as well as the faculty

    Academic Rigor

the studies will test you from time to time but the teachers can suck really bad.

    Dorm Life

living off campus so I would have no idea

    Food and Dining

Eat mainly off campus for cost effectiveness.

    What to do for fun

you might find a party here or there but it is a university that is a community college. people there for degrees, and Cheney has no major attractions. Once in a while you get to hear a guest speaker.

    Bang for the buck

you get what you paid for, low cost for low educational teaching value.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want to focus on getting there degrees and having low loans every year.

    Clubs and Activities

they do offer activities and clubs but they are not as well managed as they could be, they could be more proactive, or more a growth experience.

    Campus Safety

the campus is extremely safe, I never hear about fighting or vandalism.

Eastern Washington was a great college for my first time away from home. The professors and programs were both very efficient, and I enjoyed them as well. Eastern Washington University made a great student out of me.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come to Eastern expecting easy college classes. Although it's not the most competitive University, you're still in college. Just work hard and don't get behind is my advice.

    Academic Rigor

Eastern Washington University has been well known for providing very good teachers. Actually, a couple of my high school teachers in the Tri-Cities graduated from Eastern. Although I wasn't going to school to be a teacher, I was still very impressed academically with the performance, both by the teachers and students.

    Dorm Life

I didn't live in the dorms myself while attending Eastern, but what I heard from friends who did is that they enjoyed it. I lived off-campus during my studies at Eastern, which had it's pros and cons. I was able to feel more independent, but I missed out in respects to being a bigger part of college life by not living in the dorms.

    Food and Dining

I didn't eat often on campus, but when I did, I was very satisfied. My all time favorite were Gyros from Aladin at the PUB. Off campus of course you have quite a few Mexican restaurants to choose from as well as Chinese and of course your favorite fast food restaurants.

    What to do for fun

What I mainly did for fun while attending Eastern is use the University Recreation Center, which is available to all students. If you just want to work out or get a good exercise by playing some basketball, the URC is a good source.

    Bang for the buck

I would say the tuition and living expenses a pretty fair. It's a beautiful campus with lots of services to offer students, and you're also close to the busy city of Spokane for nights out.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Probably the one tradition I can remember happens right at the beginning of homecoming week. The recycling center at the school brings tens of wood pallets they collected over the past year and the school puts on a more than exceptional bonfire for students to come hang around.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students that enjoy working hard and having fun at the same time. It's also really nice to have had some college beforehand to prepare for a bigger and more demanding university.

    Clubs and Activities

I personally had the chance to get involved in a couple of clubs at Eastern that really helped me improve my social and service skills while helping out the community.

    Greek Life

I never had the opportunity to get involved with Greek life at Eastern, but I heard a lot from friends and classmates about this Greek Week they do that is very enjoyable and competitive at the same time.

    Campus Safety

I never felt unsafe at all while attending Eastern. There are always quite a few Policemen around town that are very friendly and personable with the students.
