    Am learning a lot

Most teachers here do a great job at teaching their subjects with the exception of a few of them. They have a great class selection to choose from so there's always something new to learn each semester.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is pretty friendly and there are not too many critical problems going on in the school.

    Bang for the buck

I'm paying out of state tuition right now, but the normal $26 per unit is a very good deal compared to other state community colleges. For anyone wanting to gain a higher education, this is a good deal.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Register early! Classes are filling up fast now since the economy went under, especially in the state of California itself.
    2. Make sure to meet with a counselor as soon as possible so you can have your education goal and the classes you need for it put in place.
    3. Show up for the first day of class otherwise you will be dropped. This school has a strict attendance policy where you can only miss up to three unexcused absences.

Great for these types of students

If you think the cost of a 4-year university is expensive and you want to save money on gaining a general 2-year education, then ECC is the place for you.

    Will learn a lot

So far all of the people I've had the pleasure of speacking with have been able to help me, and they seem like the counselor help you out a lot. I say that because when I was attending CSUDH, the counselor would just give you a list of the classes you needed to take and that would be all and at El Camino they walk you step by step, depending on you chosen major.

    Tips for prospective students

Always speak to counselor, and make a carrer plan before signing up for classes. That way the couselor will tell you if there is a prerequisite, and if there is sometimes you can take a test to meet that prerequisite and save yourself some time and money by doing so. Also if you talk to a counselor you will feel a lot less lost and you will have the peace of mind that you are taking the classes you need in order to achieve your goal.

Great for these types of students

I think this college is great for any type of student, the one that doen't know what his major will be, oor for the one that want to transfer, or for the one that wants a short career.

    Am learning a lot

A lot of the professors have years of experience in their field and it shows in the interesting lectures. They also have the ability to inspire because they have the passion for the subject they are teaching.

    Am enjoying being here

I like being able to make my own schedule with my choice of times. I enjoy it especially because i don't have to go at the same pace as everyone else. I feel I am learning a lot more now because i get to choose what I take and the classes are interesting. I believe my time in El Camino will make my transition to a University much easier.

    Bang for the buck

This is a decently priced school and you are recieving a quality education. The school is known for having one of the highest transfer rates. I personally came to the school because it would be cheaper to take GEDs in community college.

    Tips for prospective students

The Honors Transfer Program has a very high transfer rate and it highly recommended. It becomes temptiing to slack off because there is hardly any busywork, but it is not a good idea.

Great for these types of students

El Camino is great for those in financial need. It also helps those who did not do so well in high school get back on their feet.

El Camino Community College is a well rounded environment . ECC is a positive academic location . ECC is also has a nice and clean campus. I've been back and forth on their campus for years and it has increased for the better.

    Tips for prospective students

Properly taking advantage of the tutoring centers . Professor's office hours. Maintaining a good relationship with your professor's because their here to help us and they defintely will if you show them that you're just as serious .Also meet with counselors ASAP . Make sure you attend classes regulary so it doesn't affect your grade . And ESPECIALLY attend class the first few days of class because professors will drop you . Attendance is important.

    Food and Dining

Pretty great ; when you need something quick and easy , this is the place.

    What to do for fun

I walk around the campus and learn more about the campus itself and what's on the location. I also go to the library as well.

    Bang for the buck

ECC is worth it if your having finanical issues or if you plan on saving money so you can attend at University at a later time . $36 a unit , then focus on paying for books and students fees is way cheaper than your average college .

Great for these types of students

All students but especially if you plan on transfering to a university , knock out your general ed courses at ECC or any JC in general , it will make a difference.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are always on the look out , you'll be able to notice them immediately.

El Camino is an excellent community college. I am a biochemistry major, and all of the science courses and faculty are above what I was expecting for a community college. I feel that this school has exceeded my expectations in preparing me to transfer to UC Berkeley.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to start strong and see a counselor to plan your classes. Many students I know ended up staying an extra year because of poor planning.

    Academic Rigor

Many of my science classes had grade averages around 70%. I did not think the classes were difficult though. My lowest grade was a 94%.

    Dorm Life

El Camino College has no dorms.

    Food and Dining

The food is not a highlight for the school ;)

    What to do for fun

The college is in Torrance which is close to Los Angleles, Hollywood, and the beach.

    Bang for the buck

The classes here are very cheap compared to 4-year schools.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities but many of the clubs are not very active.

    Greek Life

    There is no greek life.

    Campus Safety

I have never had a problem with campus safety.

    Am learning a lot

Even though, college has few learning resources available, there are lots of faculty members who are willing to spend time with their own students and help them understand course materials.

    Am enjoying being here

There are lots of clubs that you can join. Clubs promotes social activities which include fundraising, working with professionals who have vast knowledge related to your major, and museum trips where you learn different cultures.

    Bang for the buck

There are aids available low income students. One of them is fee waiver that if a student can prove that he is not able to afford for tuition, he or she can be qualified for waiver to save money.

    Tips for prospective students

Always think positive. Even though the school is not near to level of 4 year university, you can learn lots of things here.

Great for these types of students

    Am enjoying being here

It is a very comfortable environment with friendly people that would not mind being friends with you. i feel safe in the school and I know where I can go in between classes to do productive work.

    Bang for the buck

It is super cheap compared to a college or university and the transportation that leaves you directly in front is very time-saving.

    Am learning a lot

It is a highly rated school with many professors that teach at other colleges and universities. Many of the classes are taught just as they would be at a 4 year school. That makes me feel better about preparing to transfer.

    Am enjoying being here

El Camino gets to be comfortable very quickly. It is a fairly small campus so things become easy to navigate. The problem is the difficulty finding friends or even people to study with. It is easy to stay solitary.

    Bang for the buck

The degree that you can receive from El Camino is a lot cheaper than spending the first two years at a university. There is a very high transfer rate and the reputation of the school is good.

    Tips for prospective students

Decide on classes and specific sections before your registration date and sign up for classes as close to your registration time as possible. It is also important to plan out when you will take the classes needed to finish your degree or transfer but BE FLEXIBLE!

    Did learn a lot

I did the Nursing program and learned a ton! I passed the NCLEX on my first try and feel completely prepared to enter the workforce as a Registered Nurse.

    Did enjoy being here

Most of my teachers were amazing, and I made some very good friends in the program. However, the administration and staff are not always very helpful, and you'll be on your own figuring out a lot of the logistics.

    Bang for the buck

I had the Board of Governors' Fee Waiver, and paid next to nothing for my education.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to do nursing, this is a great program! However, be warned that it is becoming very tough to get a job with an Associate's in Nursing, as most hospitals are now requiring a Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

El Camino has all the access you need to achieve your educational goals, whether it be to transfer to Harvard or advance in your current career. The most important aspect of any school are its teachers and El Camino has plenty of qualified teachers that are eager to pass on their practical hands on experience as well as their theoretical education to guide you in making the best decision you can about the kind of future you want to prepare yourself for. If you are willing to put in the hard work and not allow yourself to be overcome by the obstacles that you will encounter, El Camino and its teachers will equip you and will set you on the right course for your future and for your life.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of counseling and office hours with your teachers. You will build great relationships with your teachers that will prove to be extremely beneficial as you get requests for reccemandation letters for scholarships, jobs, and other school related tasks.

    Academic Rigor

Most teachers are here to guide you how to properly pass their classes and so if you put in the work that they require its pretty easy to pass with at least a B

    Dorm Life

its a commuter school, meaning students usually have a busy life with work, families, and other obligations. For the young students fresh out of high school that are there, they do tend to hang around the school, but most students take their classes than go home.

    Food and Dining

Honestly food is, well, good on good days and bad on bad days. But they do offer a vairety of hot cooked food as well as wide range of healthy and not so healthy snacks. But of course its all pretty expensive.

    What to do for fun

Fun on campus would be....ummm....getting to know the teachers and students. Off campus, well theres the beach that's about a 20 minute drive and down town L.A. is about a 30 - 40 minute drive.

    Bang for the buck

Quality education, nice location, lots of space to study, and friendly teachers.

    Clubs and Activities

Join a club that is active. Some clubs are very active and you can meet a lot of people, but others have a great start on the first day and than it just dies out.

    Greek Life

    ummm....none that I know of

    Campus Safety

The campus its own well repsected police that are always on and around campus. I believe they are training them to become real police officers. They even have real police cars with the College logo.

It's a great school if you stay committed to what you are doing. However it can be easy to get discouraged when you see how some of the students carry themselves.

    Tips for prospective students

Plan ahead and know what classes you need before you register, AND HAVE BACKUPS. Classes are so limited they will be gone within a couple days of registration opening.

    Academic Rigor

Depends on the classes you take. Some are a complete joke and you don't even have to show up. But if you ask around you will find out which professors know what they are talking about and though it might be a heavier workload you will learn something from it.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms. It's a community college. That would be so weird.

    Food and Dining

On campus food is overpriced and not so great. But across the street there is an entire block of food places to choose from.

    What to do for fun

    Clubs and Activities

There are a decent and fairly diverse amount of clubs on campus. I even helped kickstart the Film club when I first got here.

    Greek Life

There is an Alpha Sigma club, but I believe that is about it.

El Camino College offers students a wonderful atmosphere for educational and personal development. The teachers are well qualified, classes demand the best of each student, and the school boasts a dizzying array of activities. I find my experience to be very good, and I have no doubt that I'll have every necessary tool to be successful at my next university.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn about what the school has to offer, ASK QUESTIONS (you'll only receive part of the full experience if you don't), form a personal relationship with professors, and stay on top of your counselor, don't wait on them.

I'm active in the writing club, philosophy club, and theatre department. I do each of them out of personal pleasure, and each gives me a great excitement. I also bike ride, however, there is not a club for that activity, that might change soon, though.

    Bang for the buck

As a California resident, the tuition isn't unbearable, and for that you get a very solid preparatory education, especially to transfer to prominent universities. Of course, it could be cheaper, with the cost of schooling on the increase and financial not covering as much as it once did.

Great for these types of students

El Camino College is a great school that will do its best to help you transition to a four-year institution. Teachers are genuinely interested in their students and always offer additional help. Students actively participate to help maintain classes, which all schools have suffered with because of the budget cut, and administrators listen.

    Tips for prospective students

The best way to maintain focus and aid yourself in guaranteeing an admission from a university, is to join the honors transfer program. This program offers TAGs--transfer admission guarantees--to almost all UCs.
