I love the learning environment, the class sizes are relatively small and the professors i had , have been reachable and easy to talk to.

    Am enjoying being here

I am pretty involved Im in sorority which I love very much and Im apart of the e-board of the Black Student Alliance. Although, FGCU isnt a big school there is alot of things so do and many great ways to make friends.

    Bang for the buck

FGCU , I feel is quite affordable for Florida residence

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and learn how to balance your time between school , work and friends. Getting involved helped me gain confidence and many friends

I am learning a lot both through lectures and self-teaching. When your professor says read, READ!

    Am enjoying being here

I love the atmosphere! It's not huge, but it's big enough. The people are amazing and always there to help. Most of my professors knew me by name and I wasn't just a name on a long list to them.

    Bang for the buck

    It's affordable for Florida Residents.

    Tips for prospective students

Make multiple copies of the syllabus and keep them everywhere. Keep up with reading and it helps to start studying when you find out a test date, not the night or just hours before. Also, go to extra help if a professor offers it and participate in class.

Great for these types of students

This is a great school for someone that wants to attend a major university, yet one where they won't be lost in the chaos. People who like being away from a major city but also close enough if they need one will do well here. The campus is beautiful and the people are great!

I learn something new everyday in and out of class. I joined the Honors Program and love it. All my professors wished me the best in my classes. The classes are small which presents the opportunity to get to know the teachers and receive one on one help.

    Am enjoying being here

The University campus is beautiful. I have a dorm right on the waterfront. There is always something to do. Plenty of clubs and activities to keep you involved. It is what you make of it.

    Bang for the buck

Every University is expensive, but if you want to get the most out of your money while living on campus FGCU is the place for you. The North Lake Village apartments are so nice. You have your own bedroom in a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, kitchen, and living-room apartment.

    Tips for prospective students

Biology is the hardest class I had ever taken. It was a wake up call to me. Just study, go to class, pay attention in class and you will do fine.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like small class sizes and want to enjoy all that Florida has to offer.

Every teacher here is willing to help you if you are struggling or have a question. They actually care about you and will try their best to help you succeed. All teachers have a amount of hours they are available outside of class if you need the extra assistance.

    Am enjoying being here

I am a Freshmen here and so far I love it. There is always activities to participate in. This school is still new and is constantly improving and expanding all parts of campus. It is also super easy to make friends as it is a good community of people.

    Bang for the buck

For the most part your money is well spent here. They offer reasonable tuition and and fair meal plan. I do believe housing fees are a bit on the high side compared to other Florida schools.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for Biology! It is an eye opener to college and one of the hardest courses they offer here. Although for the most part if you follow the syllabus, go to class, pay attention, and study for test, you will do just fine.

Great for these types of students

This school is perfect for someone that wants to be a name and not a number. The class sizes are around 20-30 students. This is also a perfect school for someone that is interested in the environment and wanting to promote a greener Earth.

This school is a great school. Of course you will learn, but this school really provides a great learning experience. The faculty & staff are helpful and will give you a good education.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is not exactly a big school yet with a lot of things to pull people together, but there is some clubs & sororities & fraternities of course. They also like to make it a habit to get everyone out to the lake for swimming and jet skiing and things like that. It's fun though!

    Bang for the buck

This school is definitely a bang for the buck. They have plenty of scholarships for you to apply for as well as having one of the lowest tuition rates.

    Tips for prospective students

Do your homework. The syllabus is your Bible! Show up to class. Have fun and get involved!

Great for these types of students

    Honors, Education majors, Anyone!

    Am learning a lot

I am learning more than I thought I would and it is because of the way my classes and professors are. The class sizes are perfect for me which are typically around 30 students. Even the few lectures that I have are still small enough where I don't feel intimidated or lost. The professors are very open to help and the class environment gives each student as much attention as they need. I feel like I learn something new everyday and most of my professors teach with passion which makes me remember everything.

    Am enjoying being here

Being from Illinois, I love everything about FGCU. Of course the warm weather is nice, and my stay at the beautiful water front will never be over spent. Even though FGCU is still growing, there is still plenty to do and get involved with. Personally I am in the Honors program, a sorority, and I also participate in intramural sports. There are shopping centers nearby, numerous school events and concerts like Eaglepalooza and Bird Bash to attend, and everything is in pristine condition because the school is still young.

    Bang for the buck

If you are a Florida resident, this is the place to be. FGCU offers amazing scholarships and 'Bright Futures' to Florida residents. However, don't be scared off if you are out of state because there are also scholarship opportunities for you such as an 'Out-of-state Tuition Waiver'. Either way, you could attend this school for a reasonable price.

    Tips for prospective students

MEET WITH YOUR PROFESSORS! Going in for help makes all the difference so take advantage of office hours. Also, make sure you don't procrastinate. You know all your assignments from the first day of class so if you keep up with deadlines you will do just fine. FGCU is a growing university. Don't be scared off because it isn't as big as the other Florida colleges. It is still a lot of fun and provides an amazing education. Several of FGCU's educational programs are amongst the top and have great credibility. I visited over 20 college campuses and FGCU stood out the most to me.

Great for these types of students

Students who want one-on-one time with their professors, want a medium sized school, who are okay with doing a lot of assignments online (we are a green campus), and students who like to take on leadership roles. Since everything is developing, there are numerous leadership opportunities. I would also say someone who likes to enjoy the outdoors!

    Am learning a lot

I've been attending FGCU for two years now, and though I was originally reserved in attending the college (most of my friends were going off to larger, more well-known schools) I am exceptionally glad that I decided to stick around. All the teachers I've had have been just phenomenal. My primary focus of study in English, and though that's my passion, the teachers for my other required courses have lent to me the enjoyment of their fields of study as well. As for my regular professors (those I end up having multiple classes with in line with my major), all of them are absolutely brilliant. It's great to see how much they genuinely enjoy what their teaching, and in turn, it is a lot easier for the students to get caught up in that love of knowledge as well. Within the short while I've been at the college, I've learned (and enjoyed the subject material) more than I could ever have imagined.

    Am enjoying being here

Living off campus (and being a bit reserved as is), I initially thought it would be difficult for me to make new friends and enjoy the college lifestyle. I was quickly proven wrong. The other students that I've encountered while here have all been extraordinarily nice. Campus involvement also helps, and there are a ton of clubs to join, as well as school-funded activities to participate in (lots of tournaments, concerts, game days, etc.)
The campus is laid out beautifully and provides an ever-relaxing setting in which to either study, hang out with friends, or just sit an relax. The campus itself is lovely enough, but there's a lot more to be done just outside school grounds at either GulfCoast Town Center, Miromar Outlets, or my favorite, the Estero Community Center. Because the college is centrally located, there's always something to do whether you want to stick around school or not.

    Bang for the buck

Overall I can't imagine enjoying college much more than I do at FGCU. The classes are reasonably priced for the education provided, and it's a great place to be. The school always has scholarships running as well, so participating in those helps cut down on the funds needed to attend. My one gripe is with the prices of food at the on-campus dining areas (mainly the convenience store), but I've seen this happen at a lot of other colleges too, so I suspect it's pretty common.

    Tips for prospective students

One main tip I go by is to scope out your classrooms beforehand. By doing this, on the first day of school it'll be a lot easier to find your classes and calculate how much time you'll need to get from one place to another. Also, parking is usually hectic, so make sure to give yourself a good extra 10-15 minutes to find a parking spot if you'll be driving to campus.

Great for these types of students

Those with an avid love of learning, looking for a college with a smaller community (though it is rapidly growing), and anyone looking for an affordable college education in SW Florida

    Am learning a lot

The class sizes are small, which allows you to have a more one on one learning environment. Most teachers will do whatever they can to help you pass. While they do not have as many class options as a bigger university, they still have some interesting classes to choose from.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. There is a small man made beach right on campus that allows you to do many things like canoe, water ski, etc. It is not that small of a campus where you see the same person every day but not a big campus where you can not meet anyone.

    Bang for the buck

It is affordable and they offer scholarships in which you do one application and it automatically gives you a chance for every scholarship. Also, fill out the FAFSA for more options.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved to meet people. I am in the tennis club and met a lot of people through there. Also, dont procrastinate especially when it comes to studying. There are options such as tutors, centers, etc. to get you through.

Great for these types of students

Those people who like small classes and hands on are a good fit for FGCU.

The relatively small size of the school in conjunction with nice professors who care makes FGCU a great place to study. Especially for freshmen and sophomores, the teachers make themselves very available to you and they are rather flexible with their office hours. Don't hesitate, if you ever feel you have a question about what you are learning, to email your professor. Overall, teachers appreciate effort and you will get out of it as much as you put in.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus. The Floridian ecology is well preserved and gorgeous. The school also has a private lake which is nice to study and tan by. In general, the students are nice and we have a laid back sense of community. However, many freshman are dismayed to find that we aren't a party school. Sure people throw the occasional party but if people really want to get loose they are wise enough to do it off-campus.

    Bang for the buck

I don't know of any college that is affordable (unless perhaps community college). I believe FGCU is cheaper than the more popular Florida universities but it's still expensive.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are interested in attending FGCU, definitely take a campus tour. Nothing compares to actually being at a location to get a feel for a school. It is not too difficult to get in, but unless you truly want to be here you won't be happy.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated learners, individuals with environmental interests, creative minds (there isn't much to do in Fort Myers), people who can tolerate not having a football team or general apathy when it comes to team spirit.

FGCU has professors that are really passionate about their subjects and their students. The professors here are reachable and willing to work with you if you're having trouble. Small class sizes help students to become more involved with their classmates. There are also great Supplemental Instruction programs and tutors available if you need a different way of looking at things.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful in that it incorporates the natural landscape into everything. The people are nice and the weather is wonderful here in southwest Florida!

    Bang for the buck

I love that FGCU has their Foundation Scholarships to help students offset the cost of attending college. This college is much more affordable than the college that I transferred from.

    Tips for prospective students

Become involved, communicate with your professors, and don't shy away from participating in class discussion.

Great for these types of students

Any student would be comfortable here, but the university definitely stresses the importance of sustainability. If this sounds appealing to you, prepare to make FGCU your home sweet home!

I would highly recommend RateMyProfessor.com. It weeds out the horrible professors from the great ones. It hasn't steered me wrong yet.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful and they do their best to make sure there are activities for everybody to get involved in. There's a Starbucks on campus. It's amazing. Probably the best one in town.

    Bang for the buck

I don't think the professors are the best.

    Tips for prospective students

Please, please only come to this school if you are a serious student. It isn't a very big school, and the choices for classes are limited and it ticks me off how slacker students will take away spots in classes that I need to get into and then end up dropping out a few weeks later. Don't do that, please.

Great for these types of students

    Medical-bound, serious, sociable

I love it here in Fort Myers.Theres always something to do. People here are very friendly which took me by suprise; theres never a night or day where you'll be bored to death. And the best thing about this school is that it is fairly new building tradition's year after year. So if theres something you stand for and want to start a club the collge willl let you.

    Bang for the buck

fgcu is a great school because it is extremely eco-friendly, not too crowded, and has a multitude of resources for students. it is in a really great part of town and very face. college life there is very fun and grounded.

    Tips for prospective students

if you live in the area, live at home and save your money. it will help your grades and keep you in line. if you absolutely won't stay home, get a job as a waiter, it is the highest earning job for our age group. if you're from out of town, live on campus, it will keep you in line rather than off campus housing, it gets very rowdy.

    Will enjoy being here

There is a lot to do in fort myers, and also the rooms on campus are so nice!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition and the room and board are pretty cheap which is great.

Great for these types of students

It's great for students who want to attend a division one college, however it is not a large school. If you are looking to tailgate at a football game, this school unfortunately does not yet have a football team.

    Am learning a lot

Since our school is environmental friendly I am learning a lot about the environment and how to help that I probably would not have learned attending another school.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though things do usually close early around the school I still enjoy attending the school. It's nice to get away from a hectic city and be in a relaxing environment.

    Bang for the buck

The school isn't that expensive and the dorms here are the nicest I've seen considering you get your own bedroom; for most universities you have to share a bedroom.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're an incoming freshman I highly recommend living in the freshman dorms because it's more freshman oriented. Even though the dorm rooms are smaller I believe you get more out of your first year of college living there. There are more events put on for you to attend and you'll feel more part of the university as a whole.

Great for these types of students

If you like smaller campuses this is the school for you. It's not too big, but not too small either. Also since there aren't as many students as the bigger universities if you want to feel like a part of a family this is the school for you.

    Am learning a lot

I'm a double major here so I can speak on two majors. Political Science classes can sometimes seem like a joke depending on who your teacher is. You will learn the philosophy if you want, and you will learn more about issues if you pay attention. Environmental Studies majors will have classes that seem extremely repetitive, but the science basic classes (Chem, Biology) are very challenging.

    Am enjoying being here

I chose to come here because it is a smaller university and I would be able to thrive. Classes are small so it is easier to do well academically. The dorms in North Lake Village are wonderful, I'm a senior and I still live in them. It is not a college town, but I'm not the kind of person who goes out all the time. The key to staying busy and loving FGCU is getting involved. I do intramurals, am a part of Greek Life, I'm in the Honors Program, and I'm involved in Student Government.

    Bang for the buck

I am here on the Bright Future's Scholarship so I am paying relatively nothing. But the professors are good, plenty of clubs to get involved. Only problem is the sport teams aren't that good and people aren't too enthusiastic about the school. But it's time to increase our Eagle pride <3

    Tips for prospective students

Don't come here expecting an atmosphere like UF. It is a smaller school but it is a good school. Stick it out and don't transfer after the first year, it is a good school and you will enjoy your years here. Get involved, Greek life is fun, Student Government is wonderful, and intramurals are a fun way to work out with friends.

Great for these types of students

Smart students who love small class sizes, people who don't want a party environment.

    Am learning a lot

The professors are so approachable and easy to understand! They are always willing to help you, and some may even accommodate you if their office hours don't work with your schedule!

    Am enjoying being here

Its a lovely campus and all the stuff are super nice! Though, there is not a lot to do in the local area.

    Bang for the buck

Dorms and meal plans are where the $$$ is at.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to ask questions and get involved with student life!

Great for these types of students

    Will learn a lot

I hear this school has smaller class sizes, which I personally think helps a lot when it comes to learning.

    Will enjoy being here

I know several people heading out that way and from what they've seen so far, they love it.

    Bang for the buck

Not a major university. Doesn't require as much money.

    Am learning a lot

The classes I've taken I've learned a significant amount. There were a few classes where I feel like rather then the teacher actually teach us information they kind of just told us to read the book then take the midterm and final. On the other hand i've had some of the best teachers for my Science and Education classes.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm so glad I moved to Florida. Not only is the weather beautiful but the surrounding community is a great place to be. The beach isn't far and there are plenty of stores and restaurants near by for enjoyment or employment opportunities.

    Bang for the buck

FGCU is an extremely expensive school for out of state students. I'm paying nearly 4 times as much as in state students. Even with Scholarships and grants and tuition waivers it's still coming out to around 10,000 A semester so about 20,000 a year. It's going to be terrible when I gradate with 80,000 in student loans but I wouldn't be paying it if I didn't think the school was the best and worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make you sure you meet with your advisor frequently and keep with with your class track. You don't want to take extra or unnecessary classes. Take advantage of all the academic opportunities that the school and campus offer to their students. Always try your best and get the best grades you can no matter what. Most of all just have a good time and enjoy yourself.

    Will learn a lot

The professors are all very competent.

    Will enjoy being here

If you want a stable, beach-oriented education, FGCU is definitely a top choice.

    Bang for the buck

Although it is still a growing university, the tuition is still a bit pricey compared to competing schools such as Florida Atlantic. The dorms are also very pricey, however, they are brand new and most offer private bedrooms. Also, while other larger schools may have your entire hallmay sharing a bathroom, at FGCU, there are no more than 2-3 people per bathroom (some rooms have private bathrooms)

    Tips for prospective students

In my opinion, I think SAT scores mean more than GPA to this school.

Great for these types of students

High SAT, but low GPA that may prevent you from entering other schools.

    Am learning a lot

Our professors on campus are very engaging and they usually teach you more than you need to know if you choose the right professors. Most of our students in our science and engineering studies were shocked at how much they learned.

    Am enjoying being here

I love my campus 100%, we are a green campus, and everything from our building design to our air conditioning is made to be more friendly to the environment. We have solar panels and motion censored lights to help reduce energy costs as well.

    Bang for the buck

I am not the best to decide this, I'm not really sure where other schools stand as far as tuition is concerned. I do however think that our classes are expensive if you do not have any scholarships. But that doesn't mean that you don't learn plenty from them.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend using websites that rate your professors before choosing your classes, most of them are accurate and if it says a professor doesn't put up with texting in class and you don't know how to put down your cellphone, that class isn't right for you!

Great for these types of students

Environmentally friendly students love our campus, we always have activities that teach about sustainability and our campus has a nature trail on it as well. The scenery is perfect for people who like the outdoors.

The curriculum is not only fun but interesting as well. The professors tend to focus more towards your own personal interest in the course rather than attendance. They are always readily available and try to be of help whenever they can. They try to make the courses fun and interesting even if they are boring subjects taken early in the morning. Also the work is full but consistent and intriguing. The professors aren't there to fail you, they're there to expand your knowledge of the outside world.

    Am enjoying being here

Even living off campus can mean that it is still an enjoyable place to be. There's always some kind of event going on if you're willing to look for it. Many clubs exist on campus as well as greek life, and ways to meet new people. The scenery is kind of repetitive but then again, I've lived here my whole life but I'm sure for those out-of-towners it is a great sight to see and a great environment to learn in!

    Bang for the buck

For the type of education you're receiving, it is pretty good as far as money is concerned. It's still college and still not cheap but for the locals it really isn't as bad compared to most other colleges. Nearly all on-campus sites are free for students including doctors visits (which saves a lot of money). Living off-campus may end up being cheaper in the long run however.
