    Am learning a lot

When you come here, you must be alert and ready to learn. This school is perfect for you, if you like one and one interaction. The classes wont pass 50 students. Professors are always available, the student center will always be watching your grades. They are there to help with any type of homework or classwork. I am learning things for my major and more.

    Am enjoying being here

I live on campus in Roberts Hall. I love it, as a member the Fifth floor family it is great! everyone is so helpful and willing to have fun. Also i go to the gym whenever i want and joined a intro to fencing Class. so i don't only get to study hard but also relax and have fun. there is always something to do!

    Bang for the buck

This school is very expensive but with the help of FAFSA and allying for scholarships, all i have to do it pay a Panther Payment Plan. It;s worth the money! And Work-study also helps with you're in financial need.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply for scholarships and save money, don't forget to apply early (you get extra money for it!). If you attend FIT take advantage of all clubs and be active in the community don't stay in your dorm.

Great for these types of students

Its great for anyone!!!! Tech schools might be known as nerdy schools but it isn't! its welcoming to all types of people from all over the world!

Whether you want to or not, you will learn a lot. So far I have only spent one semester at Florida Institute of Technology and my professors are very serious about teaching their students. They do what they can to help you succeed in the class, and as long as you put in some effort to look for help, you will receive it either from a classmate, the professor, or the Academic Support Center. for the most part, my classes are very enjoyable.

    Am enjoying being here

Campus life is very active, you just have to get out of your room and see the different activities that are being hosted by the different organizations on campus. Joining an organization is also a must so you can stay active on campus and out of your room.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is very expensive, but most of their grants and scholarships pay for most of it. You definitely get what you pay for from your classes, but they could improve on their library.

    Tips for prospective students

If your looking for a peaceful, small, urban college, this is the place for you. There is a lot of activity because FIT is located in a city, but it can also be very relaxing because the beach and the harbor is only 15 minutes away.

Great for these types of students

Students who are ambitious about their education and are very willing learn and work hard for their degree, this is the place for you.

The teachers care about your education and will dedicate the time and effort needed in helping you understand the material for a class. I have just complete my first semester at Florida Tech and I feel that I have grown in my intelligence towards my field of study. Not only have I learned academically, but I have learned much about the lives of international students and what kind of life they are coming from.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Florida Tech. The sailing club activities on the weekend is the perfect getaway from the stress of your studies. It's just you, a couple of other students, and the sea. The botanical gardens is a great place to study or to take a walk. It is very beautiful and scenic that I tend to walk through there, just to clear my head.

    Bang for the buck

Florida Tech is a private school; therefore, it is more expensive than most public schools. The good thing about Florida Tech is that they offer a lot of financial aid for your tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest that you know exactly what you want to do before applying to Florida Tech. Once that is decided, it is easier for your counselor to suggest what courses for you to take. Also, if you do not like walking, I suggest you buy a bicycle or a skateboard.

Great for these types of students

Florida Tech focuses mainly on science and mathematics, so if you plan on majoring in anything that deals with these subjects, this is the college for you. Florida Tech also has an awesome graduates program for those looking to earn a Masters or Doctorate degree in I/O psychology, clinical psychology, and behavioral psychology. This is also one of few colleges in Florida that offer forensic psychology as a major.

    Am learning a lot

I came into this school pretty unprepared. I had planned on being an actress so switching to Chemical Engineering when I got to college was not something I had prepared for. However with the help of a great support system, mostly wonderful teachers, and my research teams assistance I have managed to get a 3.13 gpa my first year. I now work with instruments and chemicals that I hadn't even heard of before coming to my school.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is my second home. From the first night on campus I made great friends who offered to help me study for my placement exams. Within my first year I got the lead int he musical The Drowsy Chaperone and the role of Don Pedro in Much Ado Ado About Nothing. I have taken part in the zombie vs. human war both semesters and had the fun of both shooting my fellow sci fi loving peers with nerf guns and tagging them to turn them into a zombie as well. This game is one of my favorites because it invlolves everyone getting outside, meeting new people, and using their brains to create strategies. The professors are very caring and hard working. My chemical engineering professor gives us as much time as we need and will work late any day to help out his students. The professor I volunteer for is a genius and he pushes us to reach our full potential and make the right choices. My sorority sisters are like a family. And you can find me almost every weekend doing community service with my brothers from Alpha Phi Omega. This place is so great that any one who leaves tries to find their way back and the ones who are still around hate to be away even for summer break.

    Bang for the buck

This is on a per student basis. The school is expensive, yes, not one is doubting that. However, if you speak to almost any student or alumni they will inform you about how enriching the experience is. Students at my school are family that continues on forever, and the lessons you learn stay with you always. If the choice is between a cheap school where you are miserable or Florida Tech then I hope the choice is obvious. Now then it also depends on your major. My career choice makes eighty grand as a starting salary and I have quite a few scholarships not to mention the high demand for chemical engineers, so as long as I stick with it I will be able to pay off any money I owe fairly quickly. If you are going into a field that does not pay well and is pretty overcrowded then you may not want to choose FIT.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the schools you are considering. See what the students are like, Talk with the teachers in person or through email. Look up the clubs the school offers, and check out reviews. You need to find a place with good credentials, inspiring professors, a fun atmosphere and you have to make sure you'll fit in. If FIT is the place for you then don't hesitate. When you do choose a school and are in college find friends they're out there and it'll make the whole experience a million times better if you get to share it with true friends. Oh and always ask upperclassmen for advice. Most of us won't try to trick you because we remember what it was like in your shoes so we'll warn you which teachers to avoid, which places on campus are best to eat at on which days, etc. Make an upperclassmen buddy they will be your best, most knowledgeable friend.

Great for these types of students

This school is great if you enjoy playing role playing games, World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Dungeons and Dragons or Halo and such games as these.
Also you'll fit in if you watch and like Dr. Who, Big Bang Theory, How I met your mother, Star Trek, Star Wars, Family Guy, Futurama, and such shows as these.
If your favorite board games are Scrabble, Boggle, or Munchkin you'll also fit right in.
This school is for people who are able to balance a challenging work schedule with fun time with your friends.
If you are not into the aforementioned items that does not mean that you won't fit in.
Even if you don't think that playing Quidditch is a fun Saturday afternoon or that all you really need is to play scrabble while watching Big Bang Theory with your physics buddies to make a day great, you can still fit in.
This school has surfers, and other sports types, we have cheerleaders, we have nerds, and jocks, and all other kinds of people who are very different yet somehow get along really well.

The professors here have a passion for their subjects and they are committed to helping students. They exploit the classes(in a great way) to make the most out of the students. Teachers are available 24/7 either personally or via email, and they will help you in anyway possible. (could be class related or something personal) Teachers here become your friends!

    Am enjoying being here

I love living on campus! It's a small school, so you quickly make friends! You know everyone and everyone knows you! Your lonely days are over, because there's always someone next door!

    Bang for the buck

FIT is a private school, so it will hurt your parent's pockets a bit, but they are really understanding and helpful when it comes to financial needs. They offer lots of work study, scholarship, and grants to make it easier for your parents to pay tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Make friends with anyone, but mostly with professors and employees, because they will help you through out your years at the school. Also, if you can take any basic courses like calculus, chemistry, or english writing at a college before actually starting at FIT it will come at a great advantage! Credits transfer, you save time, and money!

Great for these types of students

This school is excellent for science, engineering, psychology, business and aviation students! It is rated as one of the best schools in the country!

    Will learn a lot

Florida Tech is absolutely amazing in creating an environment where you learn the way it's most effective for you. Your professors will be top-notch, but also they make a point to provide more than enough research and internship opportunities on and near campus.

    Will enjoy being here

FIT has everything. If you want to do research or score an internship in the area, you can get there easily. But on the other side, it's total FUN when you want it to be! The beach is biking distance away, probably about a 10 minute drive. The campus is absolutely gorgeous with palm trees, open green areas, lots of new buildings, and the botanical gardens with walking paths, and you'll never get tired of it! There's even a new swimming pool under construction :). It's pretty much an hour away from the major cities in any direction, including just over an hour away from Orlando for sports or Disney fans!

    Bang for the buck

Let's be real here - Florida Tech is expensive for some, but there's more behind that you should know... the key here is Florida Tech tries to make it affordable for everyone with the scholarships and aid they give out. They offer so much to students, so there's going to be a price, but you should still apply and weigh all your options once you receive scholarship/financial aid packages from everywhere you apply.

    Tips for prospective students

They have rolling admission, but if you get everything in by early January then you get priority consideration for scholarships (check fit.edu/e-mail the admissions department or your admissions counselor for the dates for the year you're applying). You'll also know the decision in some cases in just a few weeks! Same goes for the FAFSA, file early and you'll get priority and also in the past there have been early filer grants where if you file your FAFSA before a certain date you'll get another 1,000 for that year (not this year so they may not be doing it again). ***If you visit and attend a campus tour, half-day, or full-day event, on campus then you get another $1,000 per year automatically if you attend! It's worth the visit - you can get into Florida early and go to Disney, see a game, explore Melbourne or the state, go to the beach, and get some more money for tuition!

Great for these types of students

Honestly, you should know what you want to go into well before you attend here. If you're one of those kids of people, this school will fit you like a glove. If you know where you want to go, the programs FIT has to offer and your counselors will get you there. It really does have everything - the academics, research opportunities, professional internship opportunities, the beach, fun, in a great location, everything!

The Graduate Student Assistants that are scheduled between your professors' lectures really help to solidify each new concept you learn. I used to have no confidence in my math abilities. Now, I have nothing but 90s and higher on my homework and quizzes.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is manageable and beautiful, as expected. The staff are supportive and reiterate their desire to see each student succeed. It truly is, as the motto states, High tech, with a human touch.

    Bang for the buck

Every dollar is worth it. Manage your time and money wisely and you will be rewarded in the long run.

    Tips for prospective students

Pick classes that pertain to your major and don't overload on electives. Also, don't be shy about getting extra help from a professor or a student assistant. Everyone is here to help.

Great for these types of students

If you go to school to establish the groundwork for a successful and stable future, then FIT is for you. If you're focused, persistent, and intellectually inquisitive then you will love this university.

Be prepared to work your butt off the first day you are here. It may not seem too hard to get admitted but they weed you out your first year if you are not prepared or committed to the program.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive, but they have ways of helping you out! Don't get turned off just by the raw tuition rate alone...YOU WILL NOT PAY THAT!

    In three sentences

fit is an excellent school for future scientists, mathematicians and engineers! this school opens your doors to a world of possibilities and guarantees you a bright future by introducing you to undergraduate research, internships, co-ops and more. i would say that as a physics major with ivy league plans for graduate school, i made the right choice!

    Tips for prospective students

for those of you who are looking at colleges from a high school perspective, i recommend you take more advanced ap classes like ap calculus, ap physics c and ap chemistry, and study hard for the exams. this is because if you get an ap score of 4 or more in any of those, you have the potential of moving on and away from the general education classes much faster.

    Academic Rigor

make sure you keep up with the homework and attend lectures because it does help and attendance is taken for a lot of the classes. also, beware of all lab courses because regardless of the level, you have to write lab reports and not all of the ta's grade fairly.

    Dorm Life

because its a small school, you get to know a lot more people than who is just on your floor or in your hall. there is wildlife hanging around most of the times and that can range from giant raccoons poking around outside to giant bugs that occasionally get inside. do not forget to bring a can of raid!

    Food and Dining

the food is excellent! the panther dining hall has some pretty gourmet selection for what you can find on a meal plan. also, other little places around like the sub and the ratskeller, more commonly called the rat, offer some pretty tasty alternatives as well.

    What to do for fun

it is a small campus but thankfully the town is pretty big. not to mention, the beach is like 8 or so miles away! regardless, you always seem to find something to do which can really come in handy during the down times between classes.

    Bang for the buck

attending fit is a pretty pricey endeavor, but the cool thing is, they hand out so much scholarship! but just based off of the close professor interactions and the motto technology with a human touch, you really do get what your paying for.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

for some reason, the students organize these human versus zombies game like every fall that spreads out campus wide. it's crazy because even some professor's get involved so you will be walking to class and all of a sudden some people go running by and a professor bolts across campus with a nerf gun. i heard it can be real fun if you want to get into that.

Great for these types of students

those who find science and technology to be one of their passions.

    Clubs and Activities

the have pretty decent chapters of honor societies that can really look good on resumes or just help you with introducing yourself to the field. during your freshman year, you have to take a university experience class that makes you join a club, but don't worry to much about that because it is not a bad way to go.

    Greek Life

greek life is not as celebrated here as maybe some other universities will. there is not frat or sorority row, but there some good fraternities that can really help you survive different courses by getting insight or material about classes that your brothers have taken. so it might actually open you up to good connections if you fell that you might need help.

    Campus Safety

security does a really good job at fit. sometimes it's too good. just a forewarning, be mindful of where you park because they patrol with golf carts and are not afraid to write citations or get your car towed.

The staff here is great. All my teachers know my name and enjoy seeing me in class. If I do miss my class they will ask if I am alright or why I wasn't in class, this can a good and bad thing :).

    Am enjoying being here

I joined the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity am part of Campus Activities Board and love both sooo much! I live in my fraternity house, which is on the river, and I hold a position where I plan our special events that we do. It's a great experience and all my brothers are there to help me whenever I need it. On Campus Activities Board (CAB) I help plan who comes to the school (i.e. musicians, comedians, etc.) and makes seeing the shows that much sweeter!

    Bang for the buck

The college is expensive but I do get a lot of it paid for with scholarships but it still is expensive and requires loans. But the campus is growing enormously and in the future will be a big competitor with big name schools like MIT soon. And being an Aerospace Engineer I am where NASA is which is a definite plus.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply here early because of the rolling admissions.
File FASA early to get a 500 dollar scholarship here.
Come visit campus, I wasn't hooked until I did and saw how amazing the campus is and how friendly everyone was to me.

Great for these types of students

    Small college students.
    Enjoy an academic challenge.
    Good at time management.

It's only been the first week of school and I have already covered almost two chapters in each of my classes, along with homework! But, the teachers are always willing to help and the work is not too hard when you actually study. I transferred here from a community college and the differences are astounding. The work may be a little tough, but in the end it will all be worth it.

    Am enjoying being here

So far I have joined a few clubs, made friends with my roommate and I enjoy living here on campus. Brownlie Hall, which is for Upperclassmen, is small but nice. The RA knows what he's doing and the rest of the students and faculty around campus are friendly and helpful. Coming from a small town, this quality helps the adjustment into a city environment.

    Bang for the buck

Florida Tech is becoming a rival of the Ivy League schools. As long as you research costs and your major and come with a full expectation of the amount of work, everything will be worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you research and apply for scholarships. FASFA and the school's financial aid department will do their best to make up for any remaining funds you may need.

Great for these types of students

Anyone with a wide range of interests. There are activities sponsored by students from around the world and a wide variety clubs and organizations designed to help you get involved. From arts to robots to sports to academic, Florida Tech wants all of its students socially involved with each other to learn how to make connections for their future careers.

Im majoring in Marine Biology and Ecology. I love how the labs are hands on. Almost every biology lab has one or more research projects that you work on for the semester. It teaches you how to design, conduct, and present research. This skills are essential for any scientists and Florida Tech does a great job in preparing you.

    Am enjoying being here

The school is great. Its super easy to walk around and there is even an app you can download to you phone that has a map and list of buildings (very helpful if your new). All the professors are very helpful and its easy to talk directly with them if you need to. The area of Melbourne is quiet, but the downtown area is nice, and there is always the beach! Plus Orlando is just an hour away.

    Bang for the buck

It is very expensive to go here, but if there is always scholarships and financial aid. Florida Tech hands out a lot of money to good students.

    Tips for prospective students

Get the meal plan with the most flex cash!! You will thank me later. Also live in Columbia Village Freshman year. Roberts is community style, and while its cool for a little while..... its definitely worth it in the long run to have your own room

Great for these types of students

Florida Tech is great for hard workers who really want to focus on their degree and get the most out of there education. There are parties, but it is not a party school.

There is an Autism Study and Treatment center right on the Campus! My dream is to earn a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology for children and families. I wont to focus on children with mental disabilities and learning disorders so it is the perfect opportunity to get hands on experience. They have a wide range of classes and options such as Abnormal Psychology or Animal Behavior.

    Will enjoy being here

Absolutely!! Not only does it have the perfect program for me, it has the best environment! I hate being cold. Anyone who loves the nice warm sunny weather ( and can appreciate the rain), should come here. There are palm trees and beautiful greenery everywhere you turn. There is even a nice, quiet study place called the Botanical Gardens. There are benches for your laptop and you can study in peace. On top of that there is a beach 10 minutes away!

    Bang for the buck

I do find the over $40k tuition to be a little intense. However, you are given a perfect study environment.

The meal plan opportunities are excellent. You either get unlimited, all-you-can-eat at there huge cafeteria and a little bit of Flex cash. Or 5 days a week all-you-can-eat and lots of Flex cash. The Flex Cash is useful for the many other Cafés around the campus. It is convenient if you want a late night snack or are in a rush to eat and get to class, when the cafeteria is too far away.

The dorm rooms are okay. Beds not the best, I suggest comforters. However they also have a second option to go to the Columbian Village which is better for room, comfort, and peace and quiet.

The sites are beautiful and the teachers are excellent. Despite being expensive, this is almost any aspiring college student's dream Institution.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared ahead of time. If you are a light sleeper you'll want the Columbian Village for more privacy.

Those interested in Engineering, they have incredible opportunities from Astrology to Aeronautics! Psychology majors will also have several options and opportunities especially when going for your Master or Doctorate!

Great for these types of students

People who like comfortable housing: It has options for apartments and the Columbian Village which includes 4 self-lock bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a living room! The village is available to Freshman!

People who love the beach and tropical weather: Sudden rain, humid, warm all year, and a beautiful beach 10 minutes away!

People who like to sleep in: After the first semester you can choose from a few available times to attend a class! If you like sleeping in or if you like getting all of it out of the way early... there are options!

People who like to get around easy: There is a service to students that provides free bicycles. The only catch? You lose it, you pay for it. On top of that the campus is well built and small enough that you don't have to walk too far to get from you class, to the cafeteria, and back to your room.

The professors at FIT explain everything in detail, and are always available; they really are there to help you.

    Am enjoying being here

FIT is a large campus featuring a beautiful jungle/botanical garden, multiple pools, basket ball, racket ball, and tennis courts, nice dorms, and if you want to live off campus rent can be quite cheap. Also, the beach is a 8 minute drive or 30 minute bike ride away, and occasionally there's some surf. So, yeah I enjoy being here...

    Bang for the buck

I'll admit FIT is a little pricy, but the prestige and degree you can achieve here definitely makes the Bang for the Buck status.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are taking a difficult or extensive major don't think you're getting out of studying, and don't have too much fun on the weekends.

Great for these types of students

definitely anyone interested in aeronautics, aviation, engineering, business, etc., but you must be serious about your studies here, because you really pay for the education you receive here at FIT

Florida Tech is an excellent choice if you are planning on majoring in either flight, electrical engineering, psychology, or oceanography. All of the professors are willing to help out any student that is having trouble individually and outside of the normal class time especially. The campus life is definately energetic during the weekdays, but slows down during the weekends, especially Saturday and Sunday.

    Tips for prospective students

One major tip that I have for students is to make sure that you have all of your classes figured out for each semester at least three weeks before class registration begins. It is very difficult to get into the basic level classes with the professors that everyone likes, because those professors are not only the most interesting ones, but also the ones that you will learn the most from. Also, every time that you register for a new set of classes, you have to meet with your assigned academic adviser. If you don't, you will not be allowed to register for classes at all, and there is absolutely NO way around it.

    Academic Rigor

Depending on what major you are enrolled in especially, the course work can be very challenging. Most of the credit hour course work at Florida Tech are above the normal 4-year degree requirements, so to complete a normal 4-year degree at Florida Tech is actually more work than completing the same degree at a different institution. It is very worth it, but it can be very challenging to keep up with the load of coursework.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is very unique in that there are 4 very different places on campus that a student can chose to live in. Students are required to live their first two years on campus, unless you have immediate family within a 50 mile radius of the campus. Since I am one of these exceptions, I really cannot tell too much about the dorm life.

    Food and Dining

There are plenty of options when it comes to food on campus. The dining hall is brand new, so all the facities are very nice. The food can get monotonous, but it is a cafeteria. There are also a couple different cafe's around campus. One is open from 8 am until 5 pm, and the other is open from 1 pm until 2 am, depending on the day of the week.

    What to do for fun

The beach is always a highlight. The main cmpus is about a 10 minute drive from the nearest beach. It's pretty hard to bike to because there is a a causeway over a river that you have to cross first. Also, there are plenty of free events around the Melbourne area that happen ever weekend, from art festivals to marathons. There is something going on on campus as well every week in the main plaza. All of it is donation based, so it's a good, free time with friends every week.

    Campus Safety

Though the campus is very open, every other security guard carries a fire arm with them and is a licensed police officer. The campus security office is open 24/7, whether you are stuck outside in a torrential downpour, or have locked your keys in your car.

    Food and Dining

The food and dining at my school was great. It was not home cooking, but it was close.

    What to do for fun

    Bang for the buck

I think everyone should have either an experience with being on a team or at least supporting their sports programs. It makes you feel like part of a family.

    Bang for the buck
