Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I really enjoy that many of the teachers here are TAs (teaching assistants) and grad students. Oftentimes there'll be a sort of cultural generation gap between students and older professors, but when many of them are younger than 30, it really helps to create the sort of platonic student-teacher relationship that is so often missing nowadays.
Am enjoying being here There's always something to do, whether you're into studying, or getting drunk, or seeing live music, or being outdoors, or what have you.
Bang for the buck Much of what I'm doing is covered by Bright Futures, which is a huge plus. My only expenses now are food and rent and utilities, which rounds out to about $800 a month.
Tips for prospective students Get a job so you won't be that guy who doesn't have one.
Great for these types of students Hipsters, Frat Boys, Musicians, Artists, Alcoholics, serious Christians.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are many different programs at FSU so you will be surrounded with experienced and helpful faculty. The university is strong in the liberal arts and hard sciences, but they also have a number of other outstanding programs including criminology, sociology, psychology, law, and business. Orientation at FSU was very informative for both my parents and myself. It was a 2-day learning experience that consisted mainly of talks by various campus reps/student leaders. It was a great start where you can meet people from different backgrounds and experiences. I was drawn to find out more about FSU’s medical program. In 2005, the FSU College of Medicine received full accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The FSU College of Medicine is now ranked among the top 5 in nation for turning out doctors who choose to specialize in family medicine. Medical students will complete their clinical rotations in the third or fourth year at one of these regional campuses in Orlando, Pensacola, Sarasota, Tallahassee, Daytona Beach, and Fort Pierce. This is extremely important to me since my educational goal is to one day become a medical doctor. This may seem like a daunting task, but I believe that if I work hard and set the right goals for myself I can do it. Also, FSU provides enormous research opportunities that are supported by the school of Computational Science and Informational Technology and the famous the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory is the world’s largest magnetic of it’s kind. FSU is an excellent university, but you will need to work very hard.
Am enjoying being here Florida State University campus is located in beautiful Tallahassee, Florida. There are impressive red brick buildings, water fountains, bronze sculptures, and winding tree-lined walkways. It’s easy to get around campus, although parking can be sometimes difficult. However, they do have a number of parking garages. You can always find the lawns and pathways filled with students enjoying the walk to class, throwing a frisbee, studying under a tree, or soaking up the sun. There are student lecture halls that are 200-300+ which somewhat common during the first year or two, but I hear that they will disappear by the time you reach the upper division. There are old and new dormitories for students that are filled with mostly freshman. It’s best to get your application early if you want to get into the new ones. It also has one of the best Greek systems in the nation and I’m happy to be a part of it. If you want a school where you can learn, play, and save money then FSU is the school for you. The biggest enjoyment for me is when everyone on campus and the surrounding city unite to form the strong school spirit that Seminoles are known for. I’m amazed at the enthusiasm from the crowd during the pre-game ritual when a student dressed up like Chief Osceola throws down the flaming spear in the middle of the football field thereby declaring war on the opposing team. FSU has been a great value for me given its high academic standards, awesome athletic programs, and a wide range of social activities. It has been one of the best decisions of my life!
Bang for the buck FSU has a bus service that runs from 7am to 7pm and it’s free to students as part of your tuition. The student football tickets are also a great value in my opinion. FSU also offers many scholarships and grants to those students who meet the eligibility requirements. There are also a number of inexpensive hotels around the campus for parents to stay at while visiting their student.
Tips for prospective students My words of advice to prospective students would be to develop better study habits and management of my finances. When I was in high school I could study the night before a test and do very well on it. Those days are definitively over now that I’m in college. Now it’s all about communicating more with my professors, study groups, and tutoring services if needed. Also looking back I realized how nice I had it at home such as free food/rent, money to buy clothes, and I didn’t have to pay for classes nor books. Again, those days are definitively over now that I’m in college. Now it’s all about managing my own finances and developing a budget each semester. I’ve opened up a checking account to simplify the tracking of my college expenses. It’s amazing how my account can look so big in the beginning of the semester and shrink so quickly by the end of it. It’s like what everyone says it’s all about balancing what is important.
Great for these types of students If you are looking for an all around college experience than The Florida State University is for you. I think that any student who believes in the traditions that Florida State University represents would be proud to attend this university. I believe that any student can relate to the Florida State University's motto, which is Vires, Artes, and Mores. These are Latin words that signify strength, skill and character. These words have formed the very foundation that has been driving force behind my continued success at Florida State University. Any student that embodies these same traditions and is passionate about pursing excellent education will be an excellent addition to the Seminole family.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I took on my entire liberal arts degree in the 1st year so I definitely got a lot out of all the classes I took. As long as you put in the effort you will get the most out of the classes at FSU.
Am enjoying being here Being at Florida State was by far the best choice I could have made for myself. There are so many activities for students that are virtually free, a student can find something to do on campus every single day of the week.
Bang for the buck With the current budget cuts in Florida, it is difficult to do many things including getting an education. Luckily, FSU works with the budget crisis committee and so far has not cut anything vital to the education system or the student activities at FSU. A student here can get a great education and have fun for one of the lowest rates in the state.
Tips for prospective students TIME MANAGEMENT!!! It's so important to make sure you dedicate enough time to your studies especially in your first year. Also, probably the most important tip I can offer an incoming freshmen would be to get involved. The best way to shrink the campus and not feel lost is to get involved in a school sponsored club, activity, sport, student government or even a religious organization.
Great for these types of students This school it great for students who are spirited, motivated, determined, and ready to have the best four years of their lives!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I've learned a lot about myself, my state, and my prospective major. Moving to Florida State University was the best decision I've ever made.
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee has so much to offer me. I love politics and Tallahassee is the center of All Florida Politics. Just in one year of being here I've been able to meet our National Congressman, and multiple state senators. Florida State University has amazing classes, with outstanding faculty.
Bang for the buck Florida State University has some of the lowest in-state tuition in the entire country for an amazing education! As long as you work your hardest and study for everything then you'll do fine! Tallahassee has so much to offer college students!
Tips for prospective students Apply for the early deadline and apply for summer semester. The summer semester is the best way to ease your way into the college atmosphere. At FSU there are only 6,000 people on campus in the summer versus the nearly 40,000 in the fall and spring.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for anyone who is interested in the Arts. FSU has an outstanding Film School, music department, and performing arts department. It is one of three schools across the country that has a college circus, and a damn good one at that!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Everyday whether from the teachers or other students there is always knowledge to be gained.
Am enjoying being here There is always something to do at FSU. With the various organizations, activities, and clubs on campus you will never be bored. That said it is up to you to get out and find something that interests you. So my suggestion is to get out of the dorms with some friends and get involved. It will make your college experience one to remember.
Bang for the buck Unless you have a full ride to any college or university it will cost a pretty penny, but no matter where you decide to get your education it will always be worth it. However, at FSU our tuition pays for a number of perks such as our transportation. We have buses that run on and off campus during the day, and our Safe Bus and the Night Nole at night. It also covers our fitness facility which has state of the art equipment, free weights, olympic size swimming pool, spa area, food/nutrition experts.
Tips for prospective students Get Involved, Make Friends, Get to know Professors, Get help if you're falling behind in a class, Go to class Everyday (no matter how boring), Read the text book (unless not reccomended by Professor), Do the homework and extra credit (it's rarely given so take advantage), Use all the resources you have (Older students, Professors, RA's, and Peers), Most important pick something you love to do and stick with it whether it be a major or an activity. If you do what you have to do now, you can do what you want to do later.
Great for these types of students There is something for everyone at FSU. No matter who you are or where you come from. And if you find that there is something missing you are welcome to start a new organization to add to our diversity.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Professors are very well educated and are acquainted with the course material. They also offer extended office hours to assist students with questions.
Am enjoying being here Florida State University has a extremely diverse campus and offers a variety of clubs and organizations. Greek life is wonderful here :)
Bang for the buck The cost is very low, but don't let the cheap factor fool you. The professors are over qualified for their positions. The university also awards hundreds of students with scholarships. Becoming a student, you also gain free activities, such as bowling, movies, and a large gym. There are also free activities everyday advertised in the Union.
Tips for prospective students Prospective students:
- Apply early for housing
- Apply for scholarships
- Join a FIG
- Do not overload yourself your first semester
- Educate yourself about the campus
- Keep in touch with your family
- Stay away from partying, concentrate on your courses
- Buy books after attending the first day of classes
- Give yourself a day to learn the bus schedule
- Join many different clubs and organizations
- Get involved in Greek Life
- Attend all sport events
- Dance in Dance Marathon (Children's Miracle Network)
- Do not procrastinate
- Study a little at a time, not the night before an exam
- Time Management
- Get acquainted with your professors
- Attend office hours, reviewsGreat for these types of students Due to the great diversity of Florida State University campus, all types of students are welcomed. Students from all walks of life are able to call Florida State University their home. Majors offered include art history, business, biological science, Asian studies, classics and religion, nursing, and theatre; among many others. The campus also offers a variety of clubs and organizations to meet any standards, which brings students from a distance closer together.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Whether you take classes taught by professors or graduate students you are guaranteed to expand your knowledge immensely! Every person on our faculty is incredibly knowledgeable and a great resource for students. I have learned something new everyday that I have been here, whether it was directly from my teachers or something that spawned from their class discussions and other student participation.
Am enjoying being here There is never a dull moment here at FSU! On any given day you can take a walk around campus and find something going on such as Market Wednesdays or student organizations promoting themselves with free food and games. Club Down Under holds many events (most free or under $10 w/ student ID!) too. If you're looking for some off campus fun the FSU Reservation is free for students and has activities such as rock climbing, volleyball, and kayaking or you can stop by one of the many apartment complexes that hold pool parties on a regular basis. Also, the nightlife here is top of the line and it's CHEAP!!; There are incredible specials to be found every night at the students' favorite hot spots.
Bang for the buck The change in Bright Futures policies is going to effect all recipients. FSU faculty gives their all to students who make the effort for themselves to make sure that they will pass classes and not be forced to drop and repay fees because of poor grades. Another GREAT perk is that there are so many things included in tuition. Free on and off campus transportation (certain areas), access to a state of the art gymnasium, FSU reservation, and many other discounted items are available to students all by simply flashing their FSU ID card.
Tips for prospective students I cannot stress the importance of keeping up with your classes enough!! Even if you didn't have to try in high school, you are going to have to put in some effort here. FSU offers a great class about time management and adjusting to campus life that I highly recommend. Going to see you professors at their office hours is also a great way to ensure success. On a more social note, FSU is such a large campus that I suggest everyone GET INVOLVED!!!!! FSU offers such a huge variety of things to try so whether you join SGA, Greek Life, Sports Intramurals, Religious Organizations, Major-Specific Organizations, or something as simple as an Ultimate Frisbee team, don't be afraid to get out there and try something..... then get ready to start the best four years of your life!!!
Great for these types of students FSU has majors and activites for EVERYONE, so no matter what your race, religion, or interests, I guarantee that there is something that will peak your interests!!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors I've had so far are extremely knowledgeable at what they are sharing. Teaching is what they love doing, so a tip for all prospective students is to talk to your professors outside of class.
Am enjoying being here It's an extremely beautiful campus with friendly people. If you're worried about how many people attend this school, don't let it affect your decision too much because you will probably find a small group of tight nit friends right away as well as a larger network of friends.
Tips for prospective students Time management is key. Not only do you have to manage all of your school work, but you have to manage when you hang out with friends, when you eat, and when you fit in everything in between. Also, try out a meal plan for at least your first year. It will keep you on a regular eating schedule full of nutritious foods that I have founds surprisingly delicious.
Great for these types of students There are so many types of students here I wouldn't worry about fitting in. However, you must be ready to learn!

Categories Rating Comments Am enjoying being here I've visited several universities in Florida, and Florida State is by far the most enjoyable. There are so many different types of students who enjoy so many different things, you'll have no problem finding your niche in the crowd!
Tips for prospective students Don't underestimate FSU! It's getting harder and harder every year to be admitted. High test scores and GPA are important, but its also important to be well rounded. But instead of joining every club, join a club or play a sport that really interests you, and go far with it. And if you really want to increase your chances of getting in: APPLY FOR SUMMER TERM!
Great for these types of students FSU is a great school for friendly, outgoing kids. Seminoles are very active and love going to school events, such as football games or marches towards the Capitol Building.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Florida State is known for its academic excellence and engaging professors. Although I am only a freshman I managed to learn a lot of information from my peers, professors, and Teaching Assistants. Everyone at FSU seems to want to help you succeed, in my experience everyone that has impacted my life has motivated me to get more out of my classes than just a grade. Going beyond the classroom and learning different cultures from not only my classes but the students who attend I feel as though I am learning a lot, more than I intended to. School for me always seemed like an obligation, I always did what I had to and then I would move on to the next subject. But being at FSU, I actually had to be resourceful and more cunning to stand out from the rest and I was actually able to retain information that before I would have just tossed away once the class was over. If you are looking to be challenged and actually enjoy what your learning then I can recommend Florida State.
Am enjoying being here The atmosphere of Florida State is the ultimate location for a college student. Not only is Florida A&M right up the road, but FSU's campus is close to everything that is happening in Tallahassee. FSU's organizations, athletics, and other events are all something you would not want to miss. The Greek Life at FSU is very active and every organization is ver friendly to prospective members.
Bang for the buck FSU is worth the four grand a semester. Between housing, meal plans, and tuition its actually a bargain compared to other schools in Florida. And besides this FSU offers many scholarships and grants so funding is available.
Tips for prospective students Some tips I would probably give would be apply early, research programs offered by FSU, and apply for housing early. I made the mistake of applying late and had to wait longer than everyone else for acceptance, but once I was it was relief because FSU was my first choice. Also research your intended major and make sure FSU actually offers it or has something similar to what you wanted. Finally I say APPLY for housing as soon as possible, by applying late I got a high priority number and a dorm that is not my personal favorite.
Great for these types of students FSU is great any student looking to expand their horizons and open up to new experiences. With our nationally recognized research and top scholars FSU is a great place for anyone who wants to be successful.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are challenging and interesting. Our professors are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and are helpful to students who are willing to learn.
Am enjoying being here Beautiful campus located blocks from the Capitol. College town atmosphere (FAMU and TCC are just a few miles away). People are friendly and outgoing. Something for everyone.
Bang for the buck Tuition is not a bad price, but the room & board and meal plan fees are sometimes not worth the money. Do your research on the residence halls (some are very cheap, but they are really gross) and decide if you want to buy a meal plan way ahead of time to save money.
Tips for prospective students Do not neglect the deadlines! Once you get in, pay your housing deposit so you will be more likely to get the residence hall of your choice. Apply for an early orientation session, so you will get the best classes.
Great for these types of students Large and diverse student body. Social atmosphere.

Am enjoying being here There is ALWAYS something going on around the campus. Never a dull moment.
Bang for the buck As a student at Florida State University, you definitely get your money's worth. Everything is paid for in your tuition (movies, football & basketball games, city buses, etc.)
Tips for prospective students Have fun at college but not too much fun!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently in my second year at The Florida State University and couldn't be happier. All of my teachers and teacher assistants have been nothing but helpful in every aspect of my education. The professors are always accessible, no matter how big a class you are enrolled in. I have enjoyed the subject matter in the majority of my required classes as well.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love going to school here. Tallahassee is truly my home now. The campus is beautiful and very traditional. Our campus is not very spread out, so it is extremely easy to get from one side of campus to another without much trouble. I am also a member of Greek Life here, and that has opened a huge world of possibilities to me. All of my sisters are so involved and smart, which encourages me to be the best student and person that I can be.
Bang for the buck FSU is definitely a bang for your buck. Many out of state students come to FSU because the out-of-state tuition is cheaper than the in-state tuition is in many states. All of the sporting events are included in tuition, so you don't have to worry about paying for a football or basketball ticket every time you want to go to a game. You just provide your student I.D and you get in free! Also, the cost of living up here isn't too horrible. There are a bunch of restaurants that are student friendly, and delicious too.
Tips for prospective students Start taking your ACT and SAT at the beginning of your junior year. Keep taking them until you get a score high enough to get a 100% Bright Futures scholarship. Get involved within your high school and community, and write an awesome essay. FSU loves diverse students, so get out there and get experience working with lots of different types of people.
Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking for a university with a lot of tradition and a very friendly student population. Get involved, and you will see just how amazing FSU truly is.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students If you are considering attending FSU, it would be great to get all your materials ready ahead of time to meet the deadlines. FSU is a great school with lots of activities and diverse student body. If you are really interested, it would be to your benefit to schedule a visit to the campus and get a feel for your potential future home. But most importantly, FSU allows students the best of both worlds, academia and party life. But most importantly you have to STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!
Great for these types of students FSU is great for students looking to explore the many facets of the world and who desire a great liberal arts education. Our many programs are reknown including our Creative Writing program and Business school. Also, you never have to go far to find something to do because there are many extracurricular activities to choose from. If you enjoy meeting new people from diverse areas and all walks of life then FSU is the place for you.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Florida State offers a variety of living facilities, majors and programs. If you decide to attend Florida State do not be afraid to jump in and join one of the many clubs offered on campus. Make sure to get out and visit the Rez where you can go canoeing and enjoy being outside. Attend the circus, football, basketball, and baseball games, and truly get involved in the school spirit that is constantly around. Take classes that interest you and do not be afraid to meet with several advisors from different departments to decide which major is best for you.
Great for these types of students If you are looking for a school that is filled with tradition, offers a variety of majors and different programs such as studying abroad and a three-year degree and school spirit Florida State is a great school for you. From football games to learning about the first years of Florida State as an all girls college, and the different options it offers for majors Florida State is a great school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love the diversity of classes that FSU has to offer. Of course you learn more in some classes than others, depending on the level of difficulty and how interesting the material is to the individual, but I have to admit that I did learn quite a lot from my Nationality, Race, and Ethnicity course!
Am enjoying being here I LOVE IT HERE!!! The campus is beautiful, brick buildings with soo much history! Also, the Student Union always offers a wide range of activities, and shows. For example, this semester one of my favorite comedians, Michael Ian Black, came to perform at the union! We also have the Student Life Center, in which the theater is located and there are computers that offer really cool games to play and just relax.
Bang for the buck The tuition is not expensive, especially if you're a Florida resident.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus before making a decision so you can be sure that this is the place you can see yourself studying in for four years or more. Most likely you'll fall in love since the people are great and so is the campus!
Great for these types of students Down to earth, and party lovers. There is seriously something for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot in class as well as out of it. Just by talking to people and joining clubs, I learned about many different cultures and cool places to hangout. They have these recitation classes at FSU which I had never experienced before. A teacher's assistant (grad student) usually reviews the materials learned in class which improved my grades.
Am enjoying being here I first did not want to come to FSU simply because my brother was already here. I made the best of it and now I love it. I joined two clubs that have helped me meet so many people and experience new things such as dance and shadowing. I hangout with friends whenever I am not busy with schoolwork. All in all FSU is a fun and valuable experience.
Bang for the buck FSU offers many perks if you have your Florida State ID such as free movies at their excellent Student Life Center, Breakfast for a Buck, free football game tickets, free access to their gym and courts of all types, free concerts and comedy shows. FSU has decent prices on everything from tuition to food and rent.
Tips for prospective students The best resource that FSU has that it offers for free is TUTORING. Make use of the tutors; they offer a wide range of subjects from physics and math to english and economics. They will help you with any specific problems you have or just help you understand a topic. Join around 2 clubs if you can: one pre-professional, one leisure such as cultural or anything that interests you. Do not overstretch yourself with clubs and schoolwork. Also remember to live a little and go to the movies or play a game with your friends.
Great for these types of students Everyone and anyone who is friendly, likes to get involved in social, cultural, or athletic events. FSU is for those students who value their education but still want to have a social life. FSU is also for those who just need a place to get education but will learn much more once they are here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot So far, the teachers I have had at FSU have been great. They keep their classes and lectures interesting, making sure that they keep all of their students' attention. They genuinely want all of their students to succeed, offering extra help if students feel as though they need it, and offering extra credit opportunities so students can get the grades they deserve.
Am enjoying being here Florida State has an absolutely beautiful campus, filled with large oak trees and tons of brick buildings and walkways. We have a fun, welcoming atmosphere here and plenty of opportunities for students to get involved with activities they are interested in.
Bang for the buck The price of tuition at FSU is definitely affordable for in-state students (especially with the help of scholarships!). For this price, a student can get a great education at a quality school.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing early, and try to look for things to get involved with as soon as you can.
Great for these types of students Students who wish to attend a school with lots of organizations, clubs, fun people and school spirit!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am in the spring semester of my freshman year at FSU, and I can't even explain how much I have learned from the amazing teachers here. All of the teachers I have encountered here have been so dedicated and you can just tell that they enjoy teaching.
Am enjoying being here You wouldn't believe the beauty that is our campus. There is nothing better than spending an afternoon studying on Landis Green, just sunbathing and hanging out with your friends surrounded by trees, fountains, and people just enjoying themselves. We also have an extreme amount of clubs that you can join, whether is be something relevant to your major, like a pre-med club, or the skydiving club. There are also plenty of things off-campus that most students enjoy, like First Friday, the farmers' market, and our night life. The Night Nole(free) takes students safely all over to different clubs and events during the night, weekend or not.
Bang for the buck As a student entering college, there is nothing you worry about more than money. Luckily at FSU, almost everything is free. Things on campus like materials at the library, the gym, and the bus system are all provided free of charge for students. Sporting event tickets are free for students as well, so you have no worries about not being able to make it to the game. The school also provides free shows and entertainment. This year we've been able to see musical acts like Iron & Wine, Ludacris, and Wiz Khalifa all for free. Our Student Life Cinema plays the newest movies on campus free of charge for students. At FSU, there is no need to spend any money on having fun because the school provides it for you.
Tips for prospective students Don't stress, just do the best you can getting things in on time. Try applying for as many scholarships as you can, whether you need them or not. It will lift a great deal of stress off of you and your parents. College is about having fun, but remember to stay focused when it counts. Set goals for yourself, like getting all of your homework out of the way before going out with friends.
Great for these types of students Any student who wants to pursue a career, learn a lot, have fun, and make friends and memories that will last you a lifetime.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are different. Any teacher can throw out an assignment and claim that you can learn from the experience, but professors at Florida State always stress the importance of learning over fancy essays and credit.
With all of the clubs, student groups, leadership opportunities, and study abroad scholarships, Florida State offers many different unique ways to build experience and learn hands-on.Am enjoying being here Florida State's generous attitude and engaging campus are something to love. Freshman are always welcomed with open arms and open invitations to HUNDREDS of recognized student organizations and other groups on campus.
With such a rich history, it's hard not to enjoy the spirit that comes with attending this highly-respected university. With so much tradition and pride, it's hard not to become enthusiastic and be proud of your school.Bang for the buck Many out-of-state students choose Florida State because of it's price. In-state students are not disappointed with what comes with the price of tuition. In some cases, living on campus can be even cheaper than getting an apartment. Tuition comes with full gym access, transportation on many of Florida State University's offered forms (campus bus, Night 'Nole, Safe Bus).
Tips for prospective students - My number one tip for a Freshman is to live on campus your first year! Apply ASAP so you don't get wait-listed. Living on campus is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget.
- Get involved! Getting involved is not only fun and a great way to meet new people, but it's also a good resume booster. Don't wait until you're a senior. It's so fun to get involved and Florida State has something to offer students of all kinds and cultures.
- Go to football games! The south is a very competitive region. Many Florida State traditions are built around football and the best way to experience it is to attend a football game. Get spirited and have a blast!Great for these types of students Students that want to get involved, meet new people, research, study abroad, go to a school with rich history, get spirited, and build an everlasting love for their school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are many professors that want us to learn so they teach well and are willing to help us when we need it. A lot of them are young and students as well, but they are very well knowledged in the subjects that they teach and it's nice to have them because they speak more like us and understand what we're going through becauase they have gone through the same recently. We have a good learning environment at this school.
Am enjoying being here This is such as beautiful campus and the weather varies so some days it may be very hot and great to go out on Landis to sun tan or play ultimate frisbee, and there are cool days where the sun is still out where we can feel warm when we're walking to classes. There are also many rainy days so if you do plan on coming, buy yourself a cute pair of rain boots and you'll fit right in to the rainy day trends! There are so many things to do on campus also. There's a theater where you can get in for free with your FSU card and watch some great movies, and there are many Christian organizations of all denominations if you want to get connected with a group of people there. You can walk anywhere on campus and view many beautiful buildings and pieces of architecture on your way to your destination.
Bang for the buck What college is not expensive? But with your tuition you can get free tickets to almost every sporting home game. There are many meal plans to choose from that come with Flex bucks or Garnet bucks, which you can spend at any restaurant on campus. There is a Student Alumni Association you can join that'll get you discounts at the book stores on campus and there is always some sort of event going on on campus for free or a low price. For example, there is a movie showing at the Student Life Center every week, there are concerts to go to, and there are other fun events that get posted on Facebook all the time that all the students are invited to.
Tips for prospective students Apply early, preferrably during the beginning of the school year because less students apply and you'll have a bigger chance of getting accepted. Once you get in and plan to live on campus, don't wait to apply for housing, because it is very limited and you'll want to get into a good dorm. For students going to any college, apply for scholarships early and for as many as you can. College is expensive and all the financial help you get will definitely help. Also have fun getting ready. It can be stressful between getting accepted and so is move-in day, so have fun being stressed and you'll be well off.
Great for these types of students Well-rounded students with As and Bs and good SAT/ACT scores should get in. This college is a social one and likes to put on lots of activities so be prepared to meet lots of people at these events! Anyone who has a good attitude and is motivated to keep working and showing up to class will do well here. If you love to walk then this is definitely your school, and if you love architecture and hanging out outside then you will love it here. Anyone really can go to this school, because it is diverse and there's something for everybody here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My teachers are great. They're very helpful and not difficult to talk to. They have an extensive amount of knowledge and sometimes I like to take time to pick their brain. There are also different interest classes, like a Harry Potter class, Slavic vampire, and Pirate classes.
Am enjoying being here What I was excited about coming here were the organizations, clubs, and getting into the school spirit. There is great amount of Seminole Pride. Football games are very EXCITING!
Bang for the buck There are many free events, movies, and lots of $1 events. The gym is free and can have a free personal trainer.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to be open minded! Get out there and BE YOURSELF! It's not hard to find people who have similar interests and make long-lasting friendships. There's no need to put on a mask and pretend to be somebody else. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help or ask questions. Everyone is willing to help. Get involved in clubs, organizations, intramurals, and sports events.
Great for these types of students Anyone would fit in nicely. There are many students at FSU, so the classes can be large but there are many other classes that have less than 30 students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Despite the common negative critique of many public university professors, my professors have been phenomenal! They have been very knowledgeable in their field and are always willing to explain concepts further during office hours or an individually scheduled meeting. There are also lots of options for extracurricular activities to further the learning process.
Am enjoying being here Initially, I was opposed to attending any school in Florida, especially a large state school. Honestly, FSU was the last place I expected to end up. However, I LOVE it!!!!!!! Gorgeous campus! It's a school with all the perks of a big university - like a plethora of class choices, an innumerable amount of student organizations, even campus carnivals complete with Ferris Wheel! Yet, despite it's large student body, it does not feel huge and overwhelming. The campus is small, but not crowded. Unlike the rest of Florida, Tallahassee has hills! It is a great city skirted by gorgeous rural countryside. A half-hour drive takes you to a large open field for late-night star-gazing!
Bang for the buck The in-state tuition is affordable, especially with Florida Bright Futures. FSU also offers merit-based scholarships, which are helpful. The bulk of the cost is in room and board. Some of the nicer dorms require a meal plan; this can get pretty expensive. But I'd say you get your money's worth. The dining is very good and the more expensive the dorm, generally the nicer it is.
Tips for prospective students Don't let the sound of a big university scare you. I graduated high school with about 150 other students and spent all but two years of primary schooling at an elementary-high school that size! Despite the leap in size, FSU did not feel intimidating at all! Get a meal plan for at least your first semester. Look at dorms on the East side of campus unless you are planning on pursuing teaching, med school or something in the natural sciences. Don't write FSU off just because you don't like Florida. And if you are debating between UF and FSU, visit them BOTH! I visited UF and didn't even want to bother with FSU. But I am sure glad I did!
Great for these types of students If you like having lots of options, FSU is a great choice!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot There are so many programs offered at FSU.
Will enjoy being here From the moment I walked on campus, I knew this was the school for me. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Bang for the buck Luckily, I was able to get in-state tuition. It is an expensive school, but I think it is so worth it!
Tips for prospective students -Keep up on application deadlines (I had 2: the school application and the school of nursing's application)
-Apply early
-Research!
-Visit the school!
-Ask questions
-Keep up with due dates
-Apply for housing as soon as you are accepted
-Keep living the dream!!Great for these types of students Those that want to work hard (FSU is a top research school), have many extracurricular activities/opportunities, and want a beautiful campus setting. I thought I didn't want anything to do with this school. If you think the same, think again :)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU has so much to offer, it's ridiculous. From their amazing, and in many cases award-winning, staff to all the different people you meet, you will definitely learn something new every single day. Of course, every class I've taken has taught me an incredible amount, but through all the people I've met and organizations I've become involved with, I just keep learning, and I couldn't have asked for me.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do on campus! Whether I'm meeting a friend for dinner at Chili's or going bowling or seeing a band at Club Downunder or watching 3 movies every week, there is always something going on, so it's near impossible to be bored. And every event is just so much fun!
Bang for the buck In retrospect, dormlife (i.e. living in a dorm and having a meal plan) is a little on the expensive side, but I feel like it is definitely a good college experience and is definitely worth trying, it even for a year. Tuition is, of course, increasing every year, but with Bright Futures and scholarships, it definitely works out.
Tips for prospective students Don't bring your car freshman year! Parking is awful, and its not worth the hassle. You WILL have friends with cars, and the buses are definitely convenient! I actually brought my bike and that was a great investment for me. But, make sure you get a good, sturdy lock, even if its a bit more pricy. It WILL be worth it (I'm speaking from experience, my lovely bike was taken right before finals week :(). And don't be afraid to be social or try something new! I was meeting a new person almost every time I was at the dining hall. And don't be afraid to find and add them on facebook. I ended up making a study group with a few people I randomly met, and that definitely came in handy! (P.S. make friends in your classes, too!)
Great for these types of students FSU is a great choice for so many different types of people. There are over 500 student organizations, so everyone is bound to find one, or even a few, that fit their interests or career choices. There are also so many different types of people on campus with so many different hobbies and interests, it is such a great place. The diversity is so nice to see and be apart of.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The vast variety of majors from film, music, dance, sports management, health science, communication, and foreign language to name a few, allows for a broad spectrum of education from the very beginning to picking a specific major. The school also offers an extracurricular program for each field to help advance you in your future professional and educational career. The homework assignments are both interactive and non frivolous and the cultural diversity among professors keeps the classes interesting and fun.
Am enjoying being here Everyone knows Tallahassee is known for bringing the party and they are correct. FSU offers an incredible night life with a different venue each night and Night Nole busses for safe transportation to all the popular spots. An added bonus is the campus is absolutely gorgeous with its brick buildings and is easily walkable taking at most 15 minutes to reach one end of campus to the other. There is a bowling alley, student cinema, restaurants, computer stores, and nail places all on campus providing a complete livable experience if you don't have a car.
Bang for the buck Each professor brings a different teaching style to their classroom. Most keep it interactive and lively while telling jokes and provoking class discussions in and out of the classroom. Professors are always available for help and the confidence in the education you will receive is well worth the money paid for it.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of the buses to and from class to save gas money as well as the extra curricular activities as there is an abundance.
Also, be sure to keep in touch with your advisors as they are extremely friendly and helpful and will make sure you are on track and even ahead of the game.Great for these types of students Artsy, Hipsters, Greek Life, Fun, Studious, and every ethnicity. Basically I've seen every group possible at this school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have had nothing but tremendous professor experience in my first semester. Even though my classes were filled with five hundred or more students, the professors never made you feel as if you were just another fly in the room. They really wanted to be there for you and were there when you had a question in class. It was just as if you were in a classroom of twenty. I also found it very easy to receive help from tutors and teaching assistants through the numerous office hours that were available to students. You never have to worry about getting behind on your studies or have a lingering question in your head.
Am enjoying being here Coming into college is a lot different from high school, but I found it extremely easy to make Florida State be the home away from home that I knew I wanted with a school. There are always so many activites for students to participate in. I am in a sorority, which has made my time at FSU everything I could have imagined. There is never a time that I feel like I have nothing to do. Whether it is going to the Leach Center or just hanging out on Landis Green, I know that I will have an enjoyable day.
Bang for the buck WIth all the activities on campus, I am definitely getting the most out of all the money that I am spending to go there. The professors have also been attentive and responsive to student needs. The location of campus is also very convenient with walking distance to popular restaurants such as Mr. Roboto's. You don't ever have to worry about not getting the most bang for your buck.
Tips for prospective students My most important tip for prospective students would be to be open for anything. If you go into college with a closed mind it will be a much harder time for you to adjust. I would also recommend trying as many things on campus as can. Don't stay couped up in your dorm room; get out and meet as many people as you can. It is a lot easier to get over homesickness and make it through your freshman year if you have a good support group of friends.
Great for these types of students I think FSU is really a school for all types of students. It isn't just focused for one group of students. There are so many things to do around campus that make it appealing for many different people.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I just started taking classes in my major (Art History) and I am in love! I just finished my general curriculum classes along with my Studio Art degree and I have fallen in love with the professors here! Some of the classes are big but the professors go out of their way to help you out and get to know you. Very professional and informative, learning so much every single day.
Am enjoying being here I was wary when I first moved here but since coming I have meet some really great people. People aren't joking when they describe college as an 'adjustment' but there are so many nice people here to help you out and be there for you, I'm grateful. On top of all the nice people the campus is beautiful and the city pretty easily navigable. Whether or not you want to walk down the street, take the bus or drive a car Tallahassee, and the FSU campus have a lot of beautiful sites.
Bang for the buck There are tons of great professors and tons of great opportunities to enhance your learning experience outside of the classroom. There are tons of interesting clubs, sports, associations and Greek life on and around campus. Then there's the party scene which is definitely great, something for everyone; whether you want to dance, hang out or watch the game there's a place for you.
Tips for prospective students Go out there and do something out of your comfort zone. Or if there's something you've always wanted to try, try it. I just started playing Rugby with the club and it's so much fun, definitely not something I ever saw myself doing. Or if it's hanging out with people you've never hung out with, they can really surprise you. On that same token don't let your personal life come before school, it's the whole reason why you're there. Also, take advantage of the opportunity FSU affords you I mean they get a ton of really good speaker or have really interesting courses!
Great for these types of students As a campus and a community I think The Florida State University is very well rounded, there's something for everyone here. Whether you're interested in Greek Life, the Arts scene, Film, Sports, or even the Circus you can find something to do every night of the week. The same goes for the standard of education, I personally feel like we are stronger with the sciences but our arts programs are, arguably, amongst the best public programs in the state.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Florida State offers an unbelievable number of courses, so there is just about anything you can think of offered here, and definitely something intriguing to just about anyone. As a sophomore, I am just about finished up with my general requirements and am soon to be declaring my major (advertising). Gen-eds are typically dreaded, as they are usually very broad courses un-affiliated with your desired major. However, Florida State offers a very wide variety of courses that count as the same gen-ed credit so you will for the most part never end up in a course where you feel the need to just get it done with, and as a result genuinely learn much of the materials.
Am enjoying being here Florida State boasts a spectacular student life center, and really do a phenomenal job of hosting activities within the students interest. With the Seminole Boosters panel, a group run by students, for students, there is never a lack of activities going on around campus. Regardless of your interests, there is always something affiliated with Florida State that will catch your attention.
Bang for the buck Being one of the cheapest universities tuition-wise in the entire state, FSU still offers plenty of extracurricular activities at no extra cost to the students. We have a world class gym housing an olympic sized pool, and three stories of equipment, a new intramural sports field, several of any type of sports court you can think of, a free movie theater, a student life center complete with several restaurants and a bowling alley, and countless more campus-wide, not to mention FSU is always expanding/refurbishing its campus. It is apparent that FSU has student's finances in mind, because not only is the tuition itself so cheap, but there are also several academic scholarships and financial aid services available to students, and prospective students alike. I myself was given a $10k scholarship from FSU without even having to apply for anything. Definitely a 5 star school for finances.
Tips for prospective students The tips that I have for prospective students that I found most useful to me are the following:
-1. Get involved with the student activities, whether it be Greek life, football, theater, you name it, just be involved with something. You will be immersed in a crowd that enjoys similar activities, which goes along with tip #2...
-2. Meet new people!!! Too often do people come to college and stick with all of their friends from high school. College is an entirely new phase of life, and typically people are still finding out who they are as a person. Meeting new people in college will not only help you do this, but the friends you make in college will typically be your closest. Florida State does a great job in assisting this process with an elaborate freshman orientation, as well as countless student group activities campus-wide.
-3. Don't stress about your major. Too often do I hear people coming to college that are freaking out because they have no idea what they want to do. Just because you take a course in finance doesn't mean you are obligated to a career in accounting later on. Explore your alternatives! FSU does a great job with assisting students through this journey, and really allows students to open their eyes to new paths that they might not have even considered prior.
These may seem like very general tips, but trust me, they are the three defining tips that I have followed thus far, and it has not steered me wrong in the least bit. I have had two of the best years of my life at FSU, and am 100% certain that the following two years will live up to my expectations as well.Great for these types of students I would not say that FSU has any one type of person that it would be outstanding for. As previously stated, FSU offers such a broad variety of activities that any one person can come here and have a great time, as there is truly something for everybody. With such a diverse melting pot of students, you are bound to find something here that you enjoy. If you are an ambitious person seeking a great education, lifelong memories and friends, then FSU is for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you're looking for a college to follow a career path you enjoy, without having to take unnecessary, boring classes, Florida State University is the right college. Tired of taking random classes you feel aren't helping? Once you decide a major, professional counselors help tailor your schedule so that you can take classes that are pertinent to your career choice. I can attest to this myself – once I decided upon a film major, I was given all sorts of film related classes to take to fill my undergraduate requirements; histories about film, sciences about light and camera usage, English classes about movie literature – all of the classes I took were fun and informative. Not to mention the professors, some of whom have won awards for books they've written. The professors here know what they're doing, and are still very approachable. They're like books of easily accessible information, waiting for your questions. If you've been unable to find a school where you fit in, are able to talk with the professors on a one-to-one basis, or take classes you find interesting, Florida State University is the most qualified place to turn.
Am enjoying being here There's always something to do at Florida State! If you're not out with friends in vibrant Tallahassee, visiting one of the exciting night clubs or going to a movie at Governor's Square, the campus is always brimming with activity. Club Downunder always hosts amazing shows, that are free for Florida State students; they sometimes bring in really big acts, too. If music isn't your thing, there's always bowling, or you could take up an art class in the Union. If you're having trouble finding a place to fit in, there are tons of student organizations. Ranging from religious student unions to dance groups, there's always something to do and people to meet. What I like about the campus, though, is that you don't have to be doing something to enjoy yourself. The campus is amazingly beautiful – you can have a great time just sitting down on Landis Green in between classes, enjoying the sunshine and the sound of the birds.
Bang for the buck College tuition is not cheap, these days. Lots of colleges demand a lot of money for a spot, and are pretty unforgiving when it comes to giving you anything for it. Florida State is no such college – if you're having trouble making ends meet, it's very easy to find a Work-Study job that allows you to have a job on campus. The college gives out a lot of scholarships to prospective students, too, and opportunities are never far off. What is spent, however, is definitely worth it. The college provides top-level courses that are important in modern society, with professors who are world-renowned for their teaching. The libraries on campus are astounding, and Strozier houses around 3 million books and a large collection of movies, along with Smart Rooms where you can use SmartBoards. The college is top-notch in technology, with totally renovated lecture halls and classrooms that allow for easy learning and involvement. The money that is spent on tuition, though considerably cheaper than other colleges, is put to great use!
Tips for prospective students Apply early to Florida State – the unfortunate downside of being such an amazing college is that it fills up very quickly. If you've done well with your grades and write a good essay, it won't be hard to get in if you apply early in the application period. Also, don't be afraid to live on campus! Florida State has amazing dorms that they keep fully renovated that offer a good amount of space and a chance to become attached with really great people; I would suggest it for any freshman. If you are looking for off-campus housing, however, don't wait until the first day of classes to find your apartment/house. Those sell even faster than spots in the college, so I would suggest looking for an appropriate living place a whole semester before you're planning to go to college.
Great for these types of students Florida State University has one of the most prestigious film schools in the country – if you're looking to go into film, then this is the place to look for hands-on learning. Florida State also has a great nursing/medical program, and an amazing business school. This is, however, looking at the top of the top. Florida State has amazing tracks for any sort of profession, so don't be afraid to come here if you're looking for something special.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In the year and a half of study at Florida State University, I really have learned a lot. The faculty and staff are more than qualified and the atmosphere lends itself to learning very well. Tallahassee's notorious reputation of being a party town is most definitely true, however, within a few weeks, every incoming freshman learns their limits and figures out how to balance it all. Strozier Library is open 24 hours Monday-Thursday and late on weekends. The library features ample computer stations, vast print collections, and the same free WiFi that serves the rest of campus. Not to mention the Starbuck's in the lobby, a latte from which you can enjoy on beautiful Landis Green while reading, tossing a frisbee, or sunbathing (or perhaps watching).
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee is a wonderful town. Nothing is greater than the city on Florida State gameday. Time stands still while the Noles battle it out on Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell Stadium and the world renowned Marching Chiefs' War Chant fills a 3 mile radius. My time at Florida State had been the most enjoyable 2 years of my life.
Bang for the buck If an in-state student with Bright Futures, Florida State is the way to go. Even if you don't have a tuition scholarship, the University gives out thousands of dollars in grants every semester. My first year I was surprised with a $700 grant from the University around the 7th or 8th week of classes.
Tips for prospective students Fill out your FAFSA early!
Get a part-time job up here.
Double-check the parking lot you're in... chances are its a tow-away zone.Great for these types of students All

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The reputation for Florida State's educational programs and classes are very prestigious, therefore, they strive to give you the best education they have to offer, which means good teachers, a variety of different classes, and LOTS of tutoring for any extra help you need. I am college algebra right now and there are so many tutoring options to help me pass, the teacher has tutoring sessions, there is free tutoring at the library, not to mention study groups available on campus and with other classmates.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do here on campus alone. Florida State has it's own bowling alley, gym, art center, a circus, not to mention the wide variety of clubs and organizations there are to join and enjoy. There are also many events here on campus as well. There is really no reason to be bored here at FSU, all you have to do is look around and you will find something you are interested in.
Bang for the buck Although I love Florida State, it seems that they continually raise tuition. One of the downsides I have experienced since being here. However, the services provided here are simply wonderful. There are buses that take you around campus, our own personal police station, and many many more perks to experience.
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY! I cannot stress that enough. Applying early is one of the best ways to make sure you get the fairest chance of getting accepted into the university. Also, make sure you get the best scores you possibly can on SAT's and ACT's, because if you don't you have a less likely chance of getting accepted, as well as having to take many tests to prove that you are ready for college (this advice comes from my own experience unfortunately).
Great for these types of students If you are looking for a big-but-not-too-big university, this is the school for you. Although the campus is big, it is not so big that you need a car to get to where you need to be. You can pretty much walk everywhere on campus, or, as stated earlier, take on of the campus buses. This school is also for students who really want the full experience of college life. There are on campus activities almost everyday, there are over 500 clubs and organizations (so there is one to fit every personality), and there are lots of things to do off-campus as well, and there are other colleges around (FAMU, TCC) in case you ever want to mingle with someone from another school, because, believe or not, each school has its own culture, and sometimes it's great to share the college experience with those from another school.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is so much about Florida State that I didn't know at first. Organizations are really great about getting the word out there about activities. My professors are excellent and always have time to answer questions.
Am enjoying being here The campus has a great atmosphere, one of family and tradition, something I couldn't find at other universities. There's always something interesting to try, whether it's the Skydiving Club or the weightlifting competitions.
Bang for the buck Florida State gave me enough money to cover most of my college expenses, but I still had to take out a student loan. There are several scholarships that FSU offers, you just have to do a little digging.
Tips for prospective students Be open to trying new things. Even if you don't think you'll be any good, go to an intramural sport practice. Sign up for a club that interests you. If you don't like the topic, at least you'll meet some interesting people.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for people who like an averaged sized campus with plenty of space to hang outside. Students who want recognition for their achievements will find FSU to be the perfect venue.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are reallly informative, even the entry-level classes that you have to take for the liberal arts credits. There is a wide variety of classes to take, from computer courses, to dance classes, and the professors are always willing and able to answer questions.
Am enjoying being here I actually love it here; there is a wide variety of clubs that you can join, from SAPP, which is a pre-medicine club, to IBA, international business association. Everyone is very welcoming, and there isn't really class distinctions like there is in high school.
Bang for the buck As an in-state student paying in-state tuition, it is an amazing deal for college. I am already taking classes that are necessary for my field, and as I said before, there is always people available to help. Tuition covers bus services that go throughout tallahassee, and there is a tutoring center where you can get free tutoring.
Tips for prospective students Come to campus. A lot of students are wary about coming, saying that it may be too far from home, but once you see campus you may change your mind. I would also try to get the highest score possible on your SAT/ACT, so then you can qualify for Bright Futures as well as the FSU scholarships available. I get $1200 a semester from FSU because of my scores. Look around, and if you aren't sure what major you want to take just yet, be an undeclared major for a semester or two until you decide. You can do most of your liberal study requirements then so that you'll still be on track for graduation.
Great for these types of students FSU caters to a wide variety of students; it all depends on how much effort you're willing to put into it. It is a great research school and has wonderful academics, but if you just want to party that is always availble to you--just don't take strenous classes and try to show up to class.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU has excellent programs, professors, and courses. It is a great location for higher education. As well there are numerous opportunities to learn outside of the classroom. Campus organizations are very busy educating the student body on the issues that are most important to them. Learning is engrained in all that FSU does.
Am enjoying being here I love being at FSU! There is never a boring moment, and if you find one, then you are not looking for something to do. From hanging with friends, to campus organizations, to football games there is always an activity to participate in. The level of activities on campus is mind boggling. Political groups, general interest groups, greek life, religious ministries, anything you can think of it, it is here. If you have an interest, there is a group that meets for it.
Bang for the buck Tuition is a logical price for the great education you are getting. On campus housing is awesome and fairly priced, as are the dinning plans. College, unfortunately does cost money, but there are plenty of opportunities for scholarships and on campus employment.
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing early as possible. First come first serve. Apply early, increase the chances of getting the dorm you want. Same with orientation, go to the earliest one you can to increase your chances of getting into the class you want to, because you register for classes at your orientation.
Great for these types of students For all students who want to learn in a fun environment, with great hospitality and facilities. Sports programs are great, education top notch, and there is always something fun to do. You will fall in love with FSU!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot About 90% of the professors I have had in my two years here at FSU have been grad students, which makes learning more fun. The younger teachers get straight to the point without coming across as rude or old-fashioned.
Am enjoying being here Since I actually graduated out of state, it took forever for me to meet people. At orientation, there were even groups of people already! I was too shy to just up and join an organization without knowing anyone, so my time here has been really hard. I went from a happy, popular cheerleader in high school, to absolutely nobody in college. And the fact that there are a billion other students here makes it even harder to find friends. I feel like I never see the same face twice!
Bang for the buck Classes and fees are through the roof, but if you fill out your FAFSA on time and apply for the super simple scholarships out there, financial aid could really be a huge help. I got $5,000 my first year, just for filling out my FAFSA.
Tips for prospective students Tallahassee is a great place, but the weather is not so great. It's either freezing, burning or raining. Also, if you don't get in to FSU remember that everything happens for a reason! I turned down my first choice because my parents wanted me to go to FSU and I hate it here!
Great for these types of students Friendly, involved on campus and/or in the CARE program.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors I have had have all been great. If you have a concern, you can simply ask your professor or their TA (teaching assistant). Professors are there to teach you what they know about the things that interest them and you (since you are taking their class). They want you on time and prepared to learn- you paid for your classes, so why not be there? All-in-all, it is a great university and you will learn something that you can take with you.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do. The students are friendly. Wifi on Landis Green for those days when you want to lay out and soak up some sun while catching up with friends or on some work. You meet new people everyday! The food on campus and the surrounding areas make you think you are in heaven; there is much diversity in the types of food in the city. You meet new people, you party with them, fellowship with them, eat with them, and study with them and most importantly you gain true friendships!
Bang for the buck With Bright Futures, Florida Prepaid or even from your own pocket, the University has one of the best educations for your money as well as some of the lowest tuition in the state of Florida. You have big lecture classes and small, in depth classes, yet the professors will answer any question or concern you have- you just have to go up to them.
Tips for prospective students If you are a upcoming freshman and are living on campus, apply for a LLC (Living Learning Community). Not only do you get guaranteed housing for your first year, but you get opportunities that are only available for the LLC that you are involved in including: meeting other freshmen interested in the same interests as you, opportunities to meet professor and professionals in your career field of interest. FIG's (Freshmen Interst Groups) are also a great way to meet those with similar interests. Apply for SLS (Student Leadership Seminar) the summer of your freshman year; not only will you meet new FSU freshmen but you will also get to see Tallahassee and get some volunteer hours BEFORE you even start your 1st year and meet some of the key people at the University!
Make the most of your first year at The Florida State University; go to home games, explore the beauties that the city of Tallahassee has to offer, and join a few organizations to meet others, especially those targeted to your intended major. Get to know your professors: visit their office hours, come to them with questions (they love to see their students to offer help), and they may also be a key in your future when it comes time for internships. There is so much that the campus has to offer, so just start off with a few things. Learn about things that are going on around campus. Join SAA (Student Alumni Association) you get 10% off your books with your SAA card as well as discounts at local restaurants and shops, as well as meet many people at the monthly meetings.
If you don't have your car, you can take the city buses (show your FSU ID- it's free) as well as the university buses that run throughout the week.
For entertainment, the city of Tallahassee always has something happening. On campus, the departments often have free shows for FSU students or performances that cost up to $10.
If you are into working out, the gym is a perfect place to go- it is state of the art. Three stories, group workout classes, weight room; you will find something that you can do. There are also students to help you, if needed, to provide assistance with machinery or to help you form a personalized workout and eating plan.
There is always something to do, so many places to eat, shop and enjoy your time. The Rez is a great place for students to relax (free with FSU ID) throughout the year; there are even group events that you can plan ahead and group trips throughout the year. The circus is also available in the Spring term (free with FSU ID); you can take a circus class, join the circus, or just watch!
Rain boots would also be a good investment. The summers are hot, but it also rains a lot. The winters are cold (you WILL need a winter coat- trust me and I have lived up north and was surprised how cold it got; gloves, hat and winter coat)
Be prepared to study and work hard but also ENJOY your college years!Great for these types of students Students of all religious backgrounds (there are many religious groups, especially Christian), frat guys and sorority gals, party goers, those interested in the arts and music, students interested in government- it is the capital of Florida. Anyone can find their place in this city and on campus, you just have to explore!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot There are a diverse selection of classes sure to pique any person's interest from mythology courses to world music cultures to study abroad opportunities. There is definitely something for everyone here.
Will enjoy being here The campus seems incredible intimidating at first but once you get through orientation it is a breeze to navigate. Your housing is located close to the department that houses your major and every class is no more than a ten to fifteen minute walk or a simple bus ride away.
Bang for the buck There are a ton of financial aid out there for anyone may feel the strain of a higher education and there are a bunch of work study programs out there for those who are willing to look.
Tips for prospective students Apply as soon as you are able to-those that do are automatically given a chance at a scholarship. Get to know your professors and talk to your advisers because they are there to help us. Most of all shed your preconceived notions of yourself and try new things and expand as a person while having fun doing it.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for anyone who wants to be more than just a number at school. It is great for those who know what they want and for those who are unsure of where they want to go with life.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The academics are amazing! With the highly qualified professors here you will be set, especially those studying fine arts, psychology, or the sciences. That is Florida State's strong point.
Will enjoy being here There are so many activities on campus, clubs, and organizations. You don't have to go greek to be able to have fun. Florida state has everything from a movie theater, a 24hr Denny's, a bowling alley, and even a club named Club Downunder where various bands and comedians perform! Also, being right next to FAMU, we always get visits from their top of the line band!
Bang for the buck Florida State University was listed as one of the most cost efficient universities for in-state students!!
Tips for prospective students Make sure that after getting accepted, you don't slack off, many high school seniors make this mistake. Also, visit the campus at least once, it's beautiful!
Great for these types of students Artsy, friendly, people who enjoy calm areas. Kids looking to join a fraternity or sorority, and people who LOVE FOOTBALL! GO NOLES!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are so many classes available for every different course of study. Also, advisors can help you organize your academic plan and choose classes that fit with your level of study whether it be advanced or just average.
Am enjoying being here There is so much to do on campus all the time. With so many organizations, there are events going on 24/7. There are also many things to do outside of campus and close by. All of the students are very friendly which makes it easy to accommodate.
Bang for the buck Whether you are paying in-state or out-of-state tuition, the tuition at FSU is lower than many other state schools around the country. Personally, between bright futures and florida prepaid, my only expenses are rent and food. With all of the free services provided on campus, I would say that students here are without a doubt getting the best deal.
Tips for prospective students Find out as much information about the school as possible before starting. Also, get as involved as you can on campus in as many ways possible. This makes it easier to make friends and more exciting.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for many different types of students. It is a good fit for those who are out-going and like to meet lots of people, but it is also well-suited for those who are not so outgoing because while it is easy to become involved in organizations, you can choose how much you want to involve yourself in things.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Florida State University offers a wide variety of classes in different subjects. It is a fantastic school that strives to reach groundbreaking findings in areas of study. Florida State is a heavily research based school which makes it a great college for research! Don't be discouraged if you are interested in the arts as well, FSU has very prestigious programs in music, art, theatre, and many more specific concentrations.
Am enjoying being here The faculty and staff really show that they care about each and every individual student. It is reassuring to speak to an advisor, janitor, or even a dining hall employee and see that they care about what you think.
Bang for the buck FSU is similar to most Florida schools in price (I mean around the average tuition). Of course, out of state tuition is always much more expensive, but if students (in state or out of state) are willing to pay the tuition then they most certainly will not be bereaved of any kind of education!
Tips for prospective students Make sure you study! No matter where you go, studying and taking class work into your own hands is of the utmost importance. Manage your time and value your education!
Great for these types of students FSU is great for about anything! They have good science and art/humanities degrees. Some good departments are the Religion, Engineering, and Medical/Biological departments.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Honestly whether a student learns is majorly dependant on their own application and dedication to the material. That being said, FSU courses are definitely informative. For the most part every course is taught by professors that are proficient in that subject. I admit for undergraduate you might get stuck in large scale general classes being taught by graduate students but it isn't often.
Am enjoying being here Once you get used to college life and being independent, college life is definitely enjoyable. At Florida State University there are a lot of clubs and organizations that you can join and participate in. Also if you are into sports they offer the traditional sports clubs along with inter-mural sports. Besides the campus itself, Tallahassee has it's own hidden jems, if not scarce. There are a lot of cafes, clubs and bars surrounding the campus if that is your cup of tea.
Bang for the buck Florida State University is a really decent university that campus is very spacious and has a good vibe. There are a lot of facilities designed for students' use. They also have a plethora of student organizations and events so there is plenty to do when you are not studying for your classes.
Tips for prospective students I can honestly admit Florida State University is a well balanced school that excels in academics and entertainment. If you moved from a metropolitan area, the city of Tallahassee will definitely be a big change. I know it was for me. While Tallahassee is a a lot more calm, the campus itself is really active with their events and pow wow.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are so many different courses here and some have truly changed my perspective on life. The passion the professors have for their subjects is incredibly inspiring!
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee can be a difficult town to adjust to, especially if you're from a more tropical climate. However, the university is such an amazing place to be at.
Bang for the buck Tuition and books are an excellent deal. I've never paid more than $300 a semester for books. However, living costs can be more expensive if you really want a nice place.
Tips for prospective students What are the most practical tips I've learned in two years here? ALWAYS go to class. Join at least one club or organization. When it comes to studying, do what your parents would tell you to do during high school. Make sure you get out of your bedroom or dorm room. Always print out lecture slides if possible, and take notes on a laptop if the professor allows it. Maybe the most important thing I can tell you is to find as much free money as you can!!!! Trust me, the expenses add up faster than you ever thought they would.
Great for these types of students Independent, social, hard working, fun loving students. Florida State is no stranger to a good time. :)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The instructors are, for the most part, excellent. All my professors, without exception, were crystal clear in what they expected from you and in how to do well in the class. Almost all of them have been great lectures, and those that aren't usually have something to back their course on, such as online video lectures or study guides on Blackboard. Most of them conduct office ours at least weekly in which you can go talk to them and look for help if you need it. I have not had the misfortune of having a teacher I dislike.
Am enjoying being here Coming to FSU was, without a doubt, one of the best decisions of my life. The programs are manageable, most professors are good and fair, and a lot of the people are wonderful. Despite Tallahassee being a sleepy city, you will never find yourself without something to do if you look around.
Bang for the buck Despite Florida State being ranked slightly above 100 by US News, I challenge anyone to find a way in that an education anywhere else is better. FSU's individual programs, especially Physics, Chemistry, and the Arts, are well-rated and highly respected. A world-class education for in-state tuition.
Tips for prospective students Fix your study habits. For some courses you can study the night before the test, for others you can't. Figure out which ones you can and cannot cram for. If the material is massive (such as in World Geography), or the test is cumulative, you cannot study for it in just one night. This isn't high school. Grades matter.
This doesn't mean you have to be indoors studying all day. Go out and have fun, there's so many things to do on and off campus you'll have to try hard to get yourself back on track, but remember that when it's time to work, it's time to work.Great for these types of students FSU has programs for anyone. Those mathematically disinclined will never have to take math past the bare minimum required for graduation, and those classes are designed for just that- giving the bare minimum amount of knowledge.
Anyone can find whatever they want at FSU if they try to find it.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The Florida State University has 15 separate colleges, as well as more than 300 programs of study. Each field of study is well equip with knowledgable profesors, teachers, and teacher's assistants. Every day is a learning opportunity - whether inside or outside of a classroom. You will learn educational, social, and cultural material that you can't get at any other school.
Am enjoying being here There are so many different opportunities for students to get involved at FSU. With 22 fraternitites, 16 sororities, on campus activities buildings, and over 400 clubs/organizations, there is a 'niche' for everyone.
Bang for the buck There are a multitude of free opportunities on campus with your FSU ID: gym, sporting events, Student Life Cinema, Library, bowling, music events, union activities, the Rez, housing events, and other programs. FSU provides a great way for students to enjoy their time without breaking their wallet.
Tips for prospective students There is always an opportunity to know and get involved. There are events, programs, free opportunities, and more going on every night at FSU. Be open to meeting new people, experiencing new ideas, and have fun!
Great for these types of students Everyone! FSU has groups for all types of students, especially with over 400 different clubs and organizations. FSU is also home to one of the best international programs available.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently studying Music Education at the Florida State University College of Music. The music program here is one of the best in the nation and it is evident from the amazing staff present at the College of Music. From the professors to the students, the College of Music is a tight-knit community of fellowship joined by their love of music.
Am enjoying being here There are so many things to do on campus here at FSU. From the Student Life Center that plays a great mix of current and classic movies to Crenshaw Lanes, the on-campus bowling alley, there is always something to do. If movies or bowling aren't your thing, many bands and solo artists find there way to the Club Down Under, the on-campus location for touring bands and artists. And if that isn't enough, there are tons of concerts put on and hosted by the College of Music of some of the top names in Classical music, a myriad of Art fairs, and an on-campus pottery painting shop.
Bang for the buck With all that the college has to offer, the price of tuition, housing, and dining are just right. Since there are so many services afforded to those students staying on campus, the price that one pays for living here seems very reasonable.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely recommend coming to FSU if you are interested in Music! There are many other majors that have some of the top programs in the nation, such as Psychology and Political Science. If you are at all interested in living on campus I would HIGHLY recommend applying for housing as soon as you can (preferably right after you get accepted). If FSU is one of your top choices, you'll want to have a good priority number (the lower the number, the more likely you will be placed in the dorm of your choice) because this number stays with you for the remainder of your on-campus living.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for students who enjoy being surrounded by large, tight-knit community of great people. There are a lot of people here but the campus is pretty small so it is easy to feel at home here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The past semester was great. I really learned a lot in all of my classes. This semester, I am in much smaller classes, and I absolutely love them. All of my professors are amazing and are incredibly helpful.
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee is a really fun city. There's always a lot to do, whether it was planned by a group on campus or an event scheduled at one of the many bars or clubs off campus. There's plenty to do if you like the outdoors and my personal favorite is having the Leach Fitness Center of campus. That gym is huge.
Bang for the buck If you're from Florida, Bright Futures helps a lot with the expenses. It's definitely a great school and is worth scrambling for scholarship money for. There are a large amount of amenities that are included in tuition, such as the on campus gym and the Reservation not too far off of campus where students can canoe, kayak, and swim.
Tips for prospective students Go ahead and tour the campus and go to a football game. It's really beautiful campus, a very fun city, and it's a great school.
Great for these types of students Florida State is really for any type of student. FSU has a ton of really strong programs, and attracts all different types of students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently a Sophomore B.A. Theatre major at FSU. The large lecture classes are what you make of them, I attend class daily and engage with my professors and they have helped me on numerous levels to achieve what I wanted to. Yes, some of the classes are a drag, but once you get past those and get into the classes you truly are interested in, it's well worth it. There are plenty of opportunities to explore different topics and majors by taking intro level classes of all varieties.
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee itself isn't the best of locations, especially since FSU is essentially located in downtown Tallahassee. The temperatures are very extreme in summer and winter, but nice in spring. The social atmosphere is really what you make of it, if you want to stay home, you can. If you want to be busy all the time (with school groups or your social life), you certainly can. There is a definite college atmosphere, especially on game days and I love that feeling.
Bang for the buck I am currently on a 75% Bright Futures scholarship and I believe it was a great decision to stay in state and not be stretched as tightly for money as if I would have gone out of state.
Tips for prospective students Go into the major that your heart tells you to. Don't overwhelm yourself with activities that don't REALLY interest you (for example, things that just look good on a resume). Find out what type of atmosphere is best for your study habits and social life and choose that. Get involved.
Great for these types of students Those who enjoy art, music, and other like topics. There is always some sport or music occurring on Landis Green (in front of the library). Those who enjoy the college atmosphere with a competitive school rivalry.

Am enjoying being here Beautiful campus, friendly people, right in the middle of the city.
Bang for the buck As i said before a bunch of outside resources, and the teachers are very accommodating to working around your schedules.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of your counselor's and teacher's office hours. And remember flex bucks are your friend.
Great for these types of students Academically focused students, who want a wide array of choices.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Coming to Florida State and coming in the summer were two of the best decisions I have ever made. I learned a lot about my self in the short six weeks, things like how to live with another person in the same room, how to go to class and take good notes, and how to study for exams. Now that my first Fall semester is over, I'm absolutely sure that my achievement on making Dean's list wouldn't have been possible without attending in the Summer. Summer served as a foundation to me and though it was a growing process, it was/is definitely worth it.
Am enjoying being here To say that I am enjoying it here would be an understatement.
This Fall I found a wonderful campus ministry and I've really come to feel like they're a family away from my family.
For the first time in my education I enjoyed every class I took because I got to pick them.
As was said to me in my orientation: I'm living the dream!!!
And I really am!
Go 'Noles!!!!Bang for the buck Yes, it's a D1 school and therefore it's going to be pricey. Using websites like this one will hopefully help you out though and if you live in Florida try your best on those SATs and/or ACTs so you can get that Bright Futures money!
Tips for prospective students I know you don't want to hear this but take APs! Don't kill yourself, but take some, at least 5 or 6 over the course of your high school career. If you do well you'll come in with a ton of credits and won't have to take a lot of classes in huge auditoriums. On the plus side, even if you don't pass the exams the exam grades aren't stuck onto your college transcripts like they would be if you dual enrolled. Not that dual enrollment is bad, but APs can sometimes be less risky.
Stay well rounded, make good grades, and scores, and you should be set! Leadership positions are always great too!Great for these types of students Anyone who is interested in the Arts, i.e. Music, Dance, Film, etc. this is definitely the place for you. We have outstanding programs in these areas.
I myself am a Business, more specifically Entrepreneurship, major however, and I am more than excited about this program. I've spoken with the head of it and I know I'm in the right place.
Going to a D1 school equals many opportunities and if you're even considering coming here I highly recommend visiting and looking around!
Not to mention, a winning football team is always a plus!!!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot Many teachers in large sized classes do not have the time to provide individualized help.
Did enjoy being here There are many on-campus activities to enjoy. People play a tag-like game called zombies on compas, there are many things to do and see at the Ogelsby Union. Sports are abundant, and football games can be a blast. The bars and nightclubs can get extremely packed. There are beautiful natural areas to be explored, such as the Reservation, the Sink holes with hiking trails and underwater caves, parks next to lakes, abundant star light above the dimly lit I-75, and a long river that people raft through.
Bang for the buck Courses are simplified versions of textbooks, with presentation slides instead of chapters. Many teachers cannot seem to have a dynamic conversation regarding the subject matter that they are teaching.
Tips for prospective students Do not join a fraternity or a sorority. Greek life is the main social attraction at FSU, and it seems to have a corrupting effect on students. They begin to care more about what people think of them, and less about who they really are.
Great for these types of students Great for film majors, bad for visual artists. If you simply want a degree from a well-known college, FSU can provide you with that for little effort on your part.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently majoring in ICT (Information & Communication Technology) I get plenty of hands on experience with computers as well as web design. The class size is small so I tend to make alot of friends within my major. (Can you say epic study groups?)
Am enjoying being here We were ranked #1 in the US for top party schools (LOL). Overall the atmosphere is great and the people are friendly. Honestly, I wouldn't choose anywhere else
Bang for the buck There are plenty of resources for aid out there. This is a top institution and trust me you get a lot more than you pay for.
Tips for prospective students Apply early and especially for its over looked CARE program. It helps first generation students as well as those with financial need. I recommend that many high school students apply.
Great for these types of students I don't think there is a specific group of students but FSU is very diverse. I love the campus and atmosphere. We are a very sport oriented college as well.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences florida state has the most beautiful campus out of all public universities in the nation. the staff and teachers are extremely helpful. overall, florida state university is a 10.
Tips for prospective students students interested in attending fsu should definitely visit the school. the decision of what college to attend is extremely important, and you want to be sure you are choosing the right place. also, get advice from several current students. as for me, i love it here. i visited four colleges before deciding fsu was the one for me, and i have never made a better decision. campus and academic involvement here are very active. florida state has the perfect balance between academics and extracurricular activities.
Academic Rigor academics are a big thing here at fsu. students are always on their a game. as for student who are struggling, there are plenty of resources on campus to help through the rough patch. numerous centers on campus offer free tutoring. professors and teacher assistants are also extremely helpful.
Dorm Life after living in two different dorms for three semesters, i can definitely say that it has been the best experience of my life. fsu offers many different dorms, all of which are great. living in a dorm helps you meet more people and be more involved with things that happen on campus. sometimes though, living in such close proximity with so many people isn't for everyone. everyone should give it a try!
Food and Dining at fsu, we have many different places to catch a bite between classes, or have a sit-down lunch. the school has two dinning halls that are all-you-can-eat buffet style. the food there is always fresh, delicious and nutritious. also, we have many brand name places on campus. with places like pollo tropical, papa john's, einstein's bagels, and the nations only two sided starbuck's, theres never a dull meal.
What to do for fun on campus, we have a bowling alley, a movie theatre, and a jazz-like club, al free for students! tallahassee also offers a variety of things to do for fun. there are occasionally fairs in town, but the nightlife here mostly consists of student going to clubs or parties.
Bang for the buck college is not cheap, but i definitely feel like i am getting my moneys worth at fsu. my experience here has been well worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus here at fsu we have many decorative outdoor fountains, but these aren't like any other fountains. they have filtered pool water running through them and are deep enough to swim in! during our hotter months, students enjoy bathing in them with friends. also, on your birthday, it is a tradition for friends to throw you, fully clothes, into the school's largest fountain, and make you swim a lap!
Great for these types of students honestly, fsu is great for all students. the diversity here is high.
Clubs and Activities with over 600 clubs, there is something for everyone to feel at home. not only are there so many clubs to choose from, but these clubs are always involved.
Greek Life greek life at fsu is a big deal. sororities and fraternities do a lot for our school and our students. it is not rare for them to be set-up around campus doing charity events or giving free food and drinks to students. the greek life is a great way to be more social.
Campus Safety i alway feel safe while on campus. campus pd is regularly patrolling the area. also, we have emergency call stations every few steps around campus.

Food and Dining great food!
What to do for fun there are plenty of clubs you can join and the city is small so you get to know a lot of people

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences attending fsu is the best decision you will ever make. the university provides exceptional academic courses and allows the students to learn outside the classroom. the professors want you to learn and succeed.
Tips for prospective students you made the right choice. tallahassee is a party scene but remain focused on your studies. 10 years from now you will be more concerned with the grade in a certain course than the party you did not go to.
Academic Rigor i have received such a great academic experience
Dorm Life i would recommend the dorms for your first year and possibly the on campus apartments for your second year.
Food and Dining the dining halls can add to your freshman 15 if you let it. be aware.
What to do for fun there are plenty of museums in the capital. beaches are not too far. a road trip is possible since we are close to the fl border. the restaurants are fantastic and unique. the on campus movie theater always shows hit movies.
Bang for the buck fsu provides an experience you cannot get anywhere else.

Great for these types of students driven. ready to succeed. academically strong.

Greek Life greek life is very big at fsu. however, the non- greek life population is larger.
Campus Safety there is constant patrol and emergency lights around campus. you can feel safe having a night class at fsu.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences florida state university is a place where determination and ingenuity can really pay off. the campus is beautiful and welcoming, with faculty that love to offer advice in order for students to succeed. i am loving every minute of being here, and will gain knowledge and experiences to last a lifetime.
Tips for prospective students my first tip would be to try hard to not procrastinate, setting schedules and deadlines for yourself is a great idea to help you keep on track. go to office hours that your professors have, these can be great opportunities for extra help and personal contact in a class of two hundred. also, remember to have fun and take some classes that are about what you love and not just your major.
Academic Rigor my major is biochemistry, so my classes are pretty difficult but with lots of studying and effort, i can do well.
Dorm Life my first year was with a random roommate, and we got along well and respected each other which was very helpful. i am currently living in an apartment style dorm with three previous friends as roommates and it is wonderful to have more space and a kitchen, as well as people i already get along with. the dorms are very safe and friendly environments for the first couple of years at a university.
Food and Dining the dining halls can get frustrating at times, serving the same food every week. with an apartment style dorm i cook my own food now, but all of the restaurants on campus are great.
What to do for fun i love playing im sports and ultimate frisbee on landis green, as well as going to the sports games on campus. the movie theater and bowling alley are also fun places to go to, and there always seems to be an event happening on campus.
Bang for the buck even though college is expensive, you gain so much knowledge besides just a degree, lots of new friends, fun experiences, and a chance to be independent and become an adult.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus students are thrown in the wescott fountain on their birthday which is really fun to participate in, and homecoming each year offers alot of great events to pump up everyones' spirits.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences florida state university has a beautiful campus that can meet anyone's needs. there are many parties to go to but you can also find a nice place to relax if needed. there is something for everyone no matter what your taste is.
Tips for prospective students try and join a lot of activities so you can meet a lot of new people. also, join fsu facebook pages and if you can, carpool whenever you want to go home. it's a great way to save money and make new friends.
Academic Rigor academics really depend on what you're majoring in. while my classes have been pretty easy going, my friends are constantly telling me how hard their classes are. it also depends on your study habits. if you keep up with your work then you'll do fine.
Dorm Life though you may not like your roommate or you get in each other's nerves, you should definitely live in a dorm for at least one year. you will make lots of friends and you'll be close to all the campus activities. when you live off-campus you aren't motivated to take part in all the things the university has to offer.
Food and Dining the food is absolutely amazing! i personally don't have a meal plan but i am constantly eating on campus. they have almost everything!
What to do for fun fsu has a lot of activities throughout the semester. there are free dance lessons if you like that, you can watch a movie for free with your student id at the slc theatre (by wildwood), cheap bowling at the union. you can go to the strip which is lined with bars (18+ or 21+), or you can go to clubs which are close to heritage grove.
Bang for the buck if you want pizza, hungry howie's is the place to go. they have a large pizza for $5. also, a lot of places have specials because they know there are a lot of college kids around. if you want to watch a movie check if tallahassee movies 8 is playing it because tickets are just $3. if you have a car you should get a winn-dixie card and get your groceries there because when you use a card you get 0.05 + cents off on every gallon of gas you get at shell.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus if you are turning 21, you will get thrown in the fountain.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences One of the best places to go for an education, social atmosphere, and to get involved in the community. With as many students that are on campus, you are bound to find a group that will be able to help you out with something and, considering how friendly all of the students are there, you will never be afraid of asking questions. This place will really feel like home to you the first time you visit it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved, quick. Don't be the person to sit in your dorm room all day and never come out. Join an organization or music ensemble on campus. Build friendships and hang out with a lot of people. You don't want to become a loner because of College. Also, live in the dorm your first couple years. Trust me, you will not regret it.
Academic Rigor Classes, depending on your major, can be very challenging for many students. The chemistry and nursing schools are among the best in the nation, so expect your work to be challenging.
Dorm Life There is always something to do in the dorms. Activities, socials, or even playing pool in the rec room. It's an awesome way to meet other students and build lasting friendships.
Food and Dining The dining halls are top notch. You will never have to eat out due to the variety of foods that are served in the halls. The food is never bland and never the same. Menus are changing constantly and everything is cooked right there, in front of you, fresh. Awesome dining experiences.
What to do for fun Join an Intramural Sports team and get involved. Whether you want to join Greek life, or just be a regular student, there is so many different things to do on campus. Bowling in the schools bowling alley is always a favorite for many.
Bang for the buck Very easy to deal with every aspect of administration, finance, and tuition. Outstanding atmosphere and amazing sights to see around the campus. Classes are just challenging enough for the price to attend and you will never be let down.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus On your birthday, you are usually ambushed by your friends and thrown into the Westcott Fountain. It's school tradition on your birthday to take a lap around the fountain. You are not considered a true Seminole until you experience this.
Great for these types of students Social, organized, out-going, motivated, go-getters, students looking for a challenge, leaders, and students that want a true college experience.
Clubs and Activities There are so many different clubs to get involved with on campus and if there's not one that sparks your interests, you can create on very easily and get it going yourself.
Greek Life Many, many Fraternities and Sororities on and off campus to choose from. The school puts a lot of support into the school's Greek Life and many famous people come from Florida State's Greek Life in some way.
Campus Safety Top notch, fully certified police force on duty and paroling 24 / 7 / 365. The FSUPD is highly trained and works closely with both the Tallahassee Police Department and the Leon County Sheriffs Office.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida State is the best college in the state hands down. This may sound biased but it's hard not to be when every fall sports team was ranked at the end of the season, not to mention a Final Four appearance by our women's volleyball team and being the Champs Sports Bowl Champions. Also, our academics are equal or superior to the University of Florida. FSU is a no brainer.
Tips for prospective students Get involved!!! Play sports, join clubs, and keep a high GPA throughout high school, even during senior year!!!
Academic Rigor As expected, this is a top tier academic university. Therefore, expect challenging courses.
Dorm Life Wildwood and Degraff are easily the best. Salley and Dorman stay away from.
Food and Dining Fresh Foods is often better than the Suwanee Room but the Figg takes the cake in the way of the best dining experience.
What to do for fun There are plenty of clubs around FSU. Examples are Bajas, 20/20, and more. Also, there are lots of house parties and there are some Greek parties as well.
Greek Life There is a fraternity and sorority for everyone. Take note that the larger a Greek system is, the less brotherhood or sisterhood there is going to be. Don't rush big because they claim to be the best.

Categories Rating Comments Academic Rigor There are ranges of classes that I have found very difficult, but I have also taken classes that were not as challenging. There is definitely a good range of challenging classes at FSU.
Dorm Life Freshman living isn't the nicest, but after your freshman year most of the dorms that I have seen and the building I live in now is clean and safe.
Food and Dining I'm not a huge fan of The Suwanee Room or Fresh Foods. These are our cafeterias and although the food isn't bad, if you don't have a meal plan it can be expensive. Other places on campus like Chili's, Einstein's, and Pollo Tropical are all great.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences FSU is a very nice school with a relatively small campus and lots of trees and not very many parking spaces. It's generally a good school for whatever subject you want to study, and it has good faculty for every major. It's also very affordable and there are a lot of perks to being a student here.
Tips for prospective students STUDY HARD. Eat well. Use the gym, it's free. Don't hang out with people who hang around Tennessee Street regularly late at night (unless they're going there for the Pita Ria, totally understandable). Avoid Denny's like the plague (unless you're broke). Don't live on campus, it'll be cheaper and a lot better to live off (and it's not required for freshman). Apply for scholarships because you might actually end up getting some of them. Talk to your professors, they're actually pretty cool. Don't take out loans. Watch out for the SunTrust fees (if you open a debit account with the card center on campus). Pay your rent on time no matter where you live (seriously, people get evicted for not doing that). Don't do anything that might cause you to have a criminal record when you graduate, because no matter what your GPA or how smart you are, if you have a record, it'll be practically impossible to find work in this economy or a better one.
Academic Rigor Once you get past your basic requirements (LS requirements) and actually get into the coursework for your major, classes at FSU are incredibly challenging. The professors are pretty hardcore about their subjects; if you slack off, you'll fail. There are grad students who usually teach the lower, required courses. These courses usually give out more assignments but are also easier to pass since the grad students tend to be more forgiving and lenient.
Dorm Life Dorm life is a very hit-and-miss type of situation; there are a lot of people who get lucky and end up either in single rooms or with roommates they like and have a good experience with it, or you'll end up in a double or triple with roommates that you can't stand and no way to transfer out. Also, living on campus is expensive. Rent for a triple in the honors dorm is around $700 per month; you could live off campus and pay almost half that price and get a room & bathroom to yourself. Also, the dorms are old and smell stuffy, and dorm walls are thin and if there's someone on your floor having noisy sex (which will happen at some point, fact of life), you will hear it. Another problem is that smells travel in dorms; whether that's the suitemate using the restroom, or that guy downstairs smoking, or someone who doesn't know how to cook burning things late at night, you'll be able to smell it all so keep a bottle of febreeze handy. Also, dorms are kind of like petri dishes; if one person gets sick, all of the air vents are connected somehow and everyone else will be sick in no time. Other than those things, campus life is nice because you're close to the action. Everything is within walking distance and there's always something going on.
Food and Dining If you live on campus, you're required to buy a meal plan and with that meal plan you can eat at the Suwannee Room, Fresh Foods, the Union, or other restaurants around campus. The Suwannee Room is ok if you like pizza and salad and fast, fried food, though they also serve wraps and vegetarian stuff, but if you eat there every day you'll get sick of it pretty quickly. For the record, I have never had bad chicken at FSU. The chicken is always awesome. Fresh Foods is kind of like Suwannee but with fewer fried things and more fresh fruits and vegetables. The restaurants on campus are also good, campus Chili's is great and there are 3 Starbuckses on campus. If there's one place that's generally considered bad to eat at, it would be Denny's. Denny's is the only 24/7 diner we have on campus and it's not really ideal, most students will walk off campus to the Tennessee street restaurant strip (the strip has a Pita Ria, Tropical Smoothie, Zaxby's, and a bunch of other stuff) instead of going to Denny's.
What to do for fun If you look for something to do in Tallahassee, you can find it. It may not always be on campus, but Tennessee st. is within walking distance and there are restaurants, bars, and nightclubs there. The nightclubs and bars tend to be a bit seedy and expensive and there are a lot of homeless shelters and shifty people around at night so most people don't go there but if you're looking for a party and you have a group to go with (seriously, if you're going out at night don't go alone, I wasn't joking about the shifty people thing) you can always find one on Tennessee. Tennessee St. generally has a pretty bad reputation, but if you stay away from the bad nightclubs and bars and hang out in the restaurants area near campus and as long as you have a group of people to go with, it'll be fun and you won't need to worry about your safety. Other than that, FSU has a nightclub for students on campus which is cheaper (no cover with an FSU ID), safer to walk home from at night, and generally more fun where they have everything from poetry slams to drag shows and local comedians and bands performing. There's also a gym (access is included in tuition so you don't have to buy a separate membership. YES!) where you can take free classes (kickboxing, abs, cardio, spinning, yoga, you name it, and it's all free!) and the Student Life Cinema where they show new releases, cult films, and classics of every genre every night, and that's also free. If you want popcorn or coffee though, the popcorn is $1 but the coffee starts to get expensive.
Bang for the buck FSU is a great school to do your undergrad at. The tuition is low, but there is a small fee attached to it that gives students free admission to the gym, the student life cinema, unlimited use of all the buses that drive around campus and a parking sticker that's good for any student lot. On top of that, they give out a lot of financial aid and it's easy to get tuition reductions or deferment if you're out of state. If you're in state, they accept Bright Futures.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Every year on a person's birthday, they get thrown into the Westcott fountain (unless it's freezing cold, which does actually happen sometimes in Tallahassee). We also have the Powwow every year where we cook out at the Rez (reservation) and invite a comedian to perform at the civic center. Last year we had John Oliver and this year, Craig Ferguson. There's also the Flying Circus, a show put on by students for whoever wants to go which is really spectacular and if you go to FSU you absolutely have to see it.
Great for these types of students If you're smart and haven't completely made up your mind about what you want to do, then FSU is your school. It's very good all-round; there are a lot of very good professors in every subject area so should you decide to switch majors, you'll be switching from one good program into another good program. It's also pretty cheap, so if you stay an extra year to finish it won't set you back too far financially speaking. Even if your mind is made up, there are research opportunities for Undergrads at FSU so you can apply for hose and get some real experience with whatever you want to do.
Clubs and Activities There are a ton of clubs and activities at FSU. For every major there are clubs that meet, and there are pre-professional organizations like Mock Law and Pre Med and there are fraternities/sororities associated with those. There's usually some kind of event going on at least once a week.
Greek Life I can't claim to be the authority on Greek Life because I've never actually been in a sorority or fraternity but I know that Greek Life organizes a lot of good things on campus, like 5Ks to support Habitat for Humanity and Breast Cancer research. Sororities and Fraternities here are pretty easy to get into and are usually pretty fun, from what I hear. There's usually a certain GPA that needs to be maintained to be in a Greek organization and I know for some sororities you have to put in a certain number of hours in the gym each week, so you have to keep your grades up and stay fit. From what my friends have told me, the sororities and fraternities are very tightly-knit; if you can't get along with the people in your organization, you might be in trouble, but if you get along fine you'll probably have a blast.
Campus Safety Generally a very safe campus - if you're walking back to your dorm at night, there's generally nothing to be afraid of if you stay in the lighted areas and don't linger. Granted, if you loiter around the darker areas on the outskirts of campus and go looking for trouble you will find it, but if you stay on campus in the well-lit areas (don't go under any dark bridges late at night), your walk home will be boring. Also, if you're alone and it's night, avoid any part of Tennessee St. that isn't the restaurant strip. Anywhere else on campus, you really don't need to worry.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Florida State University is an all-around excellent school and has provided me with a positive educational experience. Florida State also has a beautiful campus with many traditions that create an inclusive environment including the famous mascots Chief Osceola and Renegade. You're college experience at Florida State will be unforgettable.
Tips for prospective students It is very important to apply early not only for admissions but also for housing. Living on campus is a great idea for at least your first year and fortunately, Suwanee, The Figg and Fresh Food have awesome food for those who are staying in the dorms.
Academic Rigor The classes can be challenging but almost all the teachers are very nice and willing to help their students.
Dorm Life Whether you chose to live in the on-campus apartments, suite style dorms or community style dorms you are bound to meet new friends and get involved.
Food and Dining There are many great food choices on and off campus.
What to do for fun Florida State has many things to do on campus including Club Downunder, the Student Life Cinema, Crenshaw Lanes bowling alley and much more. Tallahassee also has so many options for entertainment including the endless amount of dance clubs and sports bars along with Governor's Square Mall and much more.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One tradition is to get thrown in the Westcott Fountain on your birthday.
Great for these types of students Great for students who are looking for a big college feeling that also offers large and small classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are approachable and the counselors are dedicated to making every students experience at Florida State University, a successful experience. In my opinion if a student fails at Florida State University, it is only the fault of the student. There are so many tutoring, and mentoring programs available. The only thing that can stop success is discouragement and a lack of dedication.
Florida State University is not only a University that prepare students academically for there future. By attending conferences and communicating with members of administration, over the past two semesters I have learned about the affects of self image. With that, I have learned how to use everyday activities such as appearance in class, maintain a polite social relationship with others can allow me to network and build a positive reputation. These characteristics are important to me career as a business professional.Am enjoying being here Florida State University is a beautiful campus that features a diverse set of people, activities and opportunities. I have enjoyed being a part of the varied environment. My first week staying on campus I had the opportunity to twirl fire with a member of the campus's circus. It was amazing. From then on, the excitement never ceases to entertain me. I can’t walk through campus without passing the NAACP Sororities and Fraternities strolling through the union or a massive amount of students running through campus playing Human Vs. Aliens.
Bang for the buck If you want to save while attending Florida State University, there are several things you must know.
1) Buying Books
- Some books are extremely useful, others are not
- Check with your professor before buying the book; Depending
on the teacher you may not use the book
- If you can't afford to buy a book, don't worry most teachers put
the books on hold in Strozier Library, you can check them out.
- Use your resources, there several groups on Facebook where
buy and sell books at negotiable prices
Residential Living
- The good dorms are expensive and the less expensive dorms
are small, and/or moldy.
- Moving off campus is a great option but you will have to worry
about finding parking or catching the city bus, that is always
late
- Most apartments are set up so that each resident have to pay
a minimum of 500 dollars per month and everyone is
responsible for their individual bill
- Some people attempt to do a split lease but the you have to
worry about your roommates paying there portion of the rent
Utilizing Resources
-It is in your best interest to utilize all of the Free resources
because you are being charged for it in your tuition.
Tips for prospective students Anyone planning on attend FSU, should also plan on spending late nights in Strozier library and utilizing the career center. It’s not uncommon to walk in the library at 2 o’clock in the morning and see tons of people studying. The career center is also a great asset to the university. The center can help you with anything from finding a major to preparing for a job after graduation.
Great for these types of students The campus is great for hard working students with self control. There are always social events going on, it is the student's decision to maintain their priorities by putting there education first. You do not have to be social to enter the environment that Florida State University have to offer. You just have to be willing to become social. Personality is key to building relationship with professors, administration, classmates and future career partners.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU is considered a research funded university. If you would like to get into the research side of things, then look no farther. You have to be an individual who is capable of put in the time it takes to be successful in engineering. The professor's here are researchers, not all of them like the teaching part of their job. Stay on top of everything.
Am enjoying being here It's a chill college life.
Bang for the buck All colleges are raising their tuition.
Tips for prospective students Come out and do well from the start. As you get into your junior and senior year, it continues to be challenging. Stay on top of everything. Don't be afraid to drop a class if you must. Get an F should never be acceptable.
Great for these types of students All kinds.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU professors are very willing to help students succeed. Every professor that I had during my first semester was willing to meet with students outside of class to help them understand the expectations of the class as well as the material. Even in classes of 100 students, the professors still had regular office hours and would sit with students and help them work out problems until they understood the material. There are also many tutoring and help centers that are free for students. The Writing Center helps students organize and edit papers, and there are tutors available in the libraries as well as other locations, both by appointment and by walk-in. Students have many opportunities to get help if they are struggling.
Am enjoying being here The community of students at FSU is diverse enough that everyone can find a niche. Even though I’m at a school of twenty thousand people, I still feel like I have my own place here at FSU and my own community of friends.
Bang for the buck FSU offers the benefits of a large research university at a state school price.
Tips for prospective students Apply for the first deadline. You’ll find out if you got into FSU before you find out about all of your other potential colleges if you apply for the October deadline. This gives you more time to explore opportunities that you want to take advantage of at FSU before you get there!
Apply for a living learning community! These communities allow you to live with and take classes with other people in your major or area of interest. There’s many to choose from and they help you find friends and study buddies as soon as you start school! Plus, many of them offer extra opportunities outside of academics, like leadership in an affiliated society or research/career experience opportunities.
Once you get to FSU, plan your time wisely. Most assignments are assigned weeks ahead of their deadlines, so start them early and leave yourself plenty of time to edit papers and projects as the deadline approaches. In classes like mathematics, the sciences, and lab classes, you will have smaller, regular homework assignments that you are expected to complete. Make sure that you don’t fall behind on these smaller assignments while working on big projects for other classes.
Join an organization that addresses something you are passionate about, like a career-based society, a service organization, or a campus ministry. This will help you meet other like-minded students and develop friendships early on. Having a group of friends with whom you can relate will help you adjust to living away from home.Great for these types of students FSU is great for students who are interested in the fine arts or the hard sciences, especially if they want to do undergraduate research. FSU has an amazing amount of research opportunities, as well as staff devoted to helping students find positions and apply for grants and scholarships to fund research. I am going to begin research next semester, and I’m still a freshman! This is an opportunity that I would never get at most large universities, but at Florida State, research is a major focus of both students and staff. FSU has cutting edge laboratories, and many FSU professors are well known in their fields. Research at FSU is an opportunity that you don’t want to miss!

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck All college is expensive, but this is an incredible school.
Tips for prospective students Fresh Food has the best variety for dining halls. Take classes that interest you for your liberal studies requirements, and you may even find a new major through that. Be wary of dorms. Do everything you can when there are special campus activities. Study hard and enjoy learning!
Great for these types of students There is something for everyone. While you do have your typical party animals who blow off their studies to go clubbing, those are most definitely not the only students this school is good for. There are many libraries, secret study nooks, and other resources on campus. I have yet to have a professor I did not like and I genuinely enjoy the people, the learning, and the general experience here at FSU. Go Noles!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Florida State has a wonderful educational system and I have learned a lot in the past three years that I have attended. The majority of my professors have really been passionate about what they are teaching and that makes it much easier to grasp the concepts of the courses.
Am enjoying being here The Florida State University campus in Tallahassee is beautiful! The scenery is my favorite part about the campus. I have had great experiences at FSU and I really enjoy it here. I am very happy I chose to attend FSU as opposed to my other options.
Bang for the buck I do agree that FSU has a great educational system and the campus is beautiful but with the tuition prices rising higher, it is not making financial situations any easier for students.
Tips for prospective students As for any school, I believe it is important for students to stay focused on their studies. Tallahassee is considered a top party school so I would be sure to be disciplined enough to stay on top of your academics, if you do enjoy the party scene.
Great for these types of students FSU is great for all types of students. I believe FSU and the professors have many approaches for helping all types of individuals to succeed.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm in the college of music. The faculty is absolutely outstanding. They are definitely experts in their field and have so much to teach their students.
Am enjoying being here I feel completely at home. Despite FSU being a large school, the teachers and directors know who you are, say hello in the hallways, and take an interest in their students beyond those bodies in the classroom where I talk for an hour. On a social level, there are always things to do and typically they're free for students. It's really a great time.
Bang for the buck As an in-state tuition student, the cost of attending FSU is quite the value. The school is fantastic and I can still walk away after graduation without owing my life in loans.
Tips for prospective students Apply and decide early!! You'll be considered first for scholarships and be awarded the most money. Also, go to college open to learning. No one likes a pompous know-it-all freshman.
Great for these types of students I'm not sure what these types of students means, but the same tips fit here: apply early!! Be humble. Be ready to learn.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU tends to get the rep of being a party school, but the academics here are truly up to par with all other top colleges in the state! If you are ever struggling in a class there are so many complimentary tutoring resources on campus to help you out.
Am enjoying being here Tallahassee is a great city for college age kids! There is always something to do every night of the week, even if partying isn't your thing. We have a movie theater and bowling alley right on campus, and lots of other fun things to do close to campus. I'm never bored!
Bang for the buck The school feels small and, if you ask, you will get one on one attention from your professors. For these reasons, I feel like I am going to a private school without the hefty tuition! Not to mention, this campus is absolutely gorgeous :)
Tips for prospective students Apply for housing as early as possible! I currently live in DeGraff and love it! Also, get involved. There are several student organizations on campus and we have an amazing Greek life system! Getting involved is the best way to make the most of your college experience, make friends, and fill up your resume. My parting words of wisdom would be to not be bummed if you get in for the summer term. In fact, I would say to apply for the summer term! You'll meet great friends and also get a head start on your credits. And on the first day of the fall semester, you won't be that freshman that's wandering around lost ;)

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I've heard very awesome things about the academics at FSU. I'm hoping I am able to experience the great things people say about it. My sister attended FSU and said that the Professors are very helpful with thier students. She also said that becasue some classes have ALOT of students in them, that a student should have the professor get a sense of who they are, so that they stand out a little more than the other students. So saying hello, or asking many questions could be a help!
Will enjoy being here Honestly, when I took the tour of the school I absolutely loved it there. The campus, for one, is so beautiful. The grass always looked green and the flowers in full bloom. I plan on being in many clubs and trying to get to know many people outside of my classes. I think that as long as you are involoved and meet new people, then the college life will be spectacular.
Bang for the buck I will say the college academics will probably be the bang for your buck, however the meal plan is another story. All I say is research the meal plan alot before you arrive to orientation. Aside from the meal plan FSU offeres garnet bucks which can probably come out cheaper than buying a meal plan. As I said, the choice is up to the student as a person, and how much that student eats.
Tips for prospective students 1. Try to take dual enrollment courses. It will not only look good on your record, but, depending on how many credits you earn you can go into college as a sophmore, or even a junior.
2. Make sure you've learned alot about english and writing. It comes in handy when taking writing credit courses.
3. BE INVOLVED IN SCHOOL! Clubs, organizations, athletics. These are all things that help you meet new people.
4. I should have listed this first, but keep your GPA at a good level. 3.7 or higher is good, maybe a little lower. It all depends on admissions and what your test scores are.Great for these types of students Diverse,

Am enjoying being here I absolutely love this school! I could not imagine going anywhere else. I am so glad I chose to go here. It has the big college feel, but everyone here is so nice, I don't feel lost in the numbers. I almost always see at least one person I know when I walk across campus.
Bang for the buck If you utilize all that the campus has to offer, than it is definitely worth the money! FSU includes many fees into the tuition that other colleges just add on, so make sure you use the bus system and all the various help centers!
Tips for prospective students There is always something going on around campus! There is no reason for anyone to be sitting around bored wondering what to do. There is a free movie theater and cheap bowling alley right on campus. Take advantage of all the campus has to offer and you won't regret going to FSU.
Great for these types of students FSU has a variety of clubs and organizations for anyone! All different types of people can find their niche here! That's why FSU is such a great school. If you don't see a club you like, then all you have to do is create your own!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am an exercise science major in the college of human sciences. The first year of any degrees are very similar, depending on how much college credit you come in with. If you enter college with over 20 credits you will probably begin your major classes immediately (and also graduate earlier). If you are like most people the first few semesters are used mainly to complete your liberal arts credits and writing electives with a few major specific classes included. These are generally the easier courses although it does depend on the teacher. As a science major I am always learning. Especially as an upper level student where most of the learning is done on your own time. As a senior I study most days of the week, however I am also a pre-med. In any case, the more you put in the more you get out. If your only shooting for a C then you will only learn 75% of what's taught in each class.
Am enjoying being here I love FSU! Whether your currently interested in football or not, you will be if you come to fsu. Pre-game tailgating is a huge tradition at FSU. The whole community will take over the school to celebrate seminole spirit. The campus is very pretty too. Brick buildings, green lawns, flowers and trees make FSU a wonderful place to be year round. There is so much to do. There is always something happening on campus whether it is the free movie theather, football games, club downunder which hosts popular bands and comedians or the union breakfast for a buck. Off campus activities mainly involve alcohol: bars, clubs, and house parties. However, there is also the Rez which has canoe rentals and sand volleyball, as well as local sinkholes for swimming if you're the outdoor type.
Bang for the buck If you are a Florida Resident, Bright Futures covers most of the cost of attendance. The school also offers grants and scholarships. Rent is pretty cheap and so is alcohol.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared to balance studying with partying as this is the downfall of many students. You will probably do more of both then you normally do.
Great for these types of students Average, Sports Fans and Athletes, Honor/ AP students looking to enjoy life while still getting a good education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors and teaching assistants are really committed to making sure you understand the material. Even with larger classes, most professors/TA's are available after the class to clarify, and respond to emails promptly. If they don't manage to clear up your confusion, there's a lot of really helpful tutoring centers on campus - most located in the library.
Am enjoying being here FSU has a gorgeous campus, and there's lot of student activities available. The campus has a great vibe, and there's lots of social activites to help you settle in.
Bang for the buck If you're a Florida resident, FSU is a great deal. There are tons of scholarships available, both private and public. Even for out of state, FSU is pretty reasonably priced, and again, there are plenty of scholarships.
Tips for prospective students If you can, get involved with Succcess Coaching, which is free for out of state, grant recipients and students with more than ~40 hours. They help you plan out what you want to do and the steps needed to get there. Also, apply early! Make sure that you get your housing application in as soon as possible so that you are more likely to get a good dorm. Have fun! Explore the different things available on campus and all the different clubs.
Great for these types of students Driven, hard working, liberal art centered students that are willing to push their comfort zone in order to excel in a challenging, yet exciting, environment.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently a Biomedical Engineering Student at Florida State University and I am absolutely in love with the amount of knowledge that is available to me here. The Engineering College is off campus and whenever you have a question or any concerns I have never failed to find someone willing to assist me here. The professors are very kind and the career advisors are full of information.
Am enjoying being here Being on campus is wonderful. The classic brick buildings and the ancient draping oak trees make me feel right at home. On Landis green you will always find people playing a pickup game of soccer or ultimate frisbee, and people love hanging up hammocks and just relaxing in the beautiful Florida weather.
Bang for the buck I personally am responsable for the of my education, and being an in-state student I find Florida State University particularly affordable, especially with the caliber of the Engineering school.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus! It is absolutely beautiful and completely different from anywhere else in Florida.
Great for these types of students This college is great for all kinds of students. From the medical school, new biology, psychology, and chemistry facilities, to the great athletic facilities, there is something for everyone, even a circus!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a freshman it can be quite difficult to adjust to the college lifestyle, but Florida State makes it easy. The class sizes are relatively small for a campus this large. I will not lie I do have a class of 300, but at the same time a class of 30. There is a lot of variation and those large classes allow you to meet your next best friend and become more open. Whenever you feel lost, the professors answer your questions. Whether it be in class or during their twice a week office hours, you can be sure that you won't be ignored. The main library, Strozier, is amazing. Their is always a study group going on, and if not get together with some friends and utilize all the resources this campus has to offer...There are TONS of them. This campus provides you with ample opportunity to excel. If you like to study alone, grab a book and enjoy the fountain on Landis or Westcott. When it is warm out go for a swim in the fountains to cool off. This campus has it all. Most of all, Florida State lets you be who you are and helps you navigate this time of transition and beyond. It sets you up for the real world. Being in the state capitol has its advantages for internships and job opportunities, unlike that other school in Gainesville. GO NOLES!
Am enjoying being here I come from a small town of 5,000. Tallahassee has around 150,000 and FSU has 40,000. To say the least it was a shock to the system. But, despite its size, it feels like home. The campus is amazing to take a stroll on. Landis Green is a blast. We have football and frisbe all the time. There are SO MANY clubs that you can't go wrong. It is literally impossible to not find something that you like on the campus.
Football Saturdays are a blast! The stadium and the atmosphere is something that can't be beat. When you step into Doak, you become friends with 80,000 other Seminoles cheering the team onto victory. Tallahassee is a party town, so if that is what you seek, trust me it is here. At the same time, just 12miles from the city center is the peaceful country that provides a retreat from it all. Hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, and anything else you can imagine, it is all here. If you are religious, there is tons of them to choose from and several clubs as well.Bang for the buck Florida State University has a variety of things that appeal to everyone. If you search for the party life, Tallahassee and FSU has it.
If you are looking for Fraternities or Sororities, we have 60 of them
If you want sports, we have numerous intramural sports that anyone can sign up for. Football tickets are free to students (you can't miss out on that experience) and all other sporting events are either free or extremely cheap.
If you want to be involved, we have over 550 clubs, and if you don't find what you want, create your own!
If you want to study, Florida State ranks within the top 25 for most every program and if you come from Florida especially it is the best bang for the buck college.Tips for prospective students Apply early, do not wait. If you miss the first deadline, it is very difficult to catch up and get on campus housing. If you get accepted from the first deadline (you will get a letter in December) and you intend to go to FSU, put in the housing application as soon as possible. It fills up fast.
For orientation, try to get an early date, this allows you to sign up for classes sooner and you will be more likely to get the one you want. Most of all, look at Florida State with an open mind (and all colleges for that matter). Look at Tallahassee and ask yourself if you can see yourself living here. It has something for everyone if you open your eyes to it. I came in not knowing anyone or anything, now I am heavily involved in numerous organizations, church, and the community. This is a place for you to be who you want to be.Great for these types of students Christians, International Students, Party Goers, People who want Internships

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU really gets you to think. Most classes, even at the 2000 level, require a good deal of thought and effort. Sometimes you can get by without actually learning too much, but then what are you really paying for? You get what you give. If you put in the effort to learn, you will. The faculty and staff are extremely welcoming for the most part. They want you to come to office hours; they want you to ask questions. FSU is a friendly, extremely educational environment.
Am enjoying being here Florida State is a lot of fun. The students are active and passionate about pretty much everything, and it's not hard to find something to get involved in. Sometimes it's hard to know what you actually are interested in. That's why it's great to have so many options available. There are open mic nights on campus, a radio station, fashion magazines, political groups, Greek life, and so much more. FSU is great for exploring and finding your niche. There are lots of volunteer opportunities as well.
Bang for the buck If you are a Florida resident, this is definitely the place to be. Tuition is ridiculously cheap in comparison to basically any out of state schools, and it is high quality education. There are always exceptions; the lecture class with the doctoral student who has no idea how to teach does not feel like a good use of money. Overall, though, it is definitely worth what it costs. Scholarships, like Bright Futures, are extremely helpful too.
Tips for prospective students For such a big school, it's amazing how many classes are under 100 students. It isn't hard to get in touch with your professors, and you can be noticed and recognized if you put yourself out there.
Bring a car, but don't expect to find parking if you're commuting. Parking is nearly impossible. There are other modes of transportation though, like the bus. Or if you live close to campus, like I do, you can walk to campus.
A lot of people complain that Tallahassee is dirty and gross and that there is nothing to do here. These are all extreme generalizations. FSU isn't located in the nicest area of town, and sure, some parts of it are less pretty than others. But if you drive ten minutes in any direction, you'll probably find beautiful trees and lush greenery. If you don't have a car, just walk on campus. It's gorgeous too. You just have to appreciate what is there, rather than focus on what isn't.
As for things to do goes- there are always events happening on campus. There is a great college music scene on and off campus, and there are a number of clubs and bars to go to. There are parks to go to, organizations to join, football games to attend... the list goes on and on. Again, if you don't make an effort to do things, then it's going to feel like there's nothing to do. You're in charge of your fun.
One last thing- the dining hall food is not good. Some residence halls require you to have a meal plan. It's fine for a year but after that it gets old. It's better to make your own food when possible.Great for these types of students FSU is great if you think you know what you want to do with your life. It's also great if you have absolutely no idea. It is also perfect for people who are open-minded. There is a lot of diversity on campus, in many different ways. There is a substantial LGBT community as well.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes at Florida State University are phenomenal! Since it is a huge campus I was nervous that the classes would be too big and I wouldn't do as well. But I was wrong! Some of the best classes I've taken had stadium seating! I thought I knew what I wanted to pursue as far as my major goes but in just one year I've changed my mind...twice. The advisors here really helped me figure out what I wanted to pursue for the future. Not sure what you want to study in college? FSU has a hands-on Exploratory major so you can really weigh out all your options before picking one. They have you participate in activities that will help you find a major that's fit for you.
Am enjoying being here FSU is probably one of the colleges with the most options when it comes to getting involved. Many people new to the campus are nervous because it is such a large university! I am a member of Greek Life which many people are often wary about. It was the best decision I've ever made, I had no idea what to expect but I gave it a try anyways. I found a place where I know I belong. It might not be for everyone, but it is a great way to network and meet new people whether you're serious about it or not. Not interested in going Greek? There are literally hundreds of clubs on campus to get involved in. Every Wednesday in the Union they have Market Wednesdays where clubs and other organizations come out to market themselves! FSU makes getting involved really easy and fun, which helps ease you into the transition of high school and college!
Bang for the buck College is super expensive no matter who you are! If you can work part- time and save up you will NEVER regret it. Apply for scholarships even if you are working, you just never know what you might get! Going out with friends, going to dinner, paying bills, and classes adds up quickly! This will save you time in college so you can concentrate on school and you can have fun!
Tips for prospective students Go to Summer C!! You have to take a semester of summer school to graduate, why not go your first summer! Many incoming freshmen go to summer school so it is a great way to meet people. You might think it's weird, but honestly everyone is in the same situation so it is the best way to meet people! You get to figure out the campus before it gets busy and it is a great time!
Great for these types of students Anyone who is looking to have the true college experience! There's traditions that Florida State has kept while being modernized at the same time!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes here are phenomenal with a lot of support from the teacher's office hours and the long list of tutoring services available throughout campus.
Am enjoying being here I am currently a Freshman here at Florida State and I have never loved a school so much. My school spirit and my motivation to do well in and out of school is on the high. This was third on my top school list but after visiting FSU, I knew it was the place to be!
Bang for the buck It is a fantastic tuition price for In-State students. Dormitory, Seminole Dining, and the other costs of school supplies (books) are always expensive. Make sure you get scholarships for your undergraduate here as it can quickly build up along with Graduate school, if you attend.
Tips for prospective students I cannot stress this enough: APPLY for scholarships, VOLUNTEER at places you want to be at in the future (hospital, animal shelter, etc.)
It is not fun working and going to school full-time here at FSU.
Once accepted here, find healthy activities to do here!
I currently do Water Polo and am part of the Pre-Veterinary club. These are great ways to meet people of the same interest and have fun.Great for these types of students Fun, outgoing students. If you're a shy then this is the place for you but, YOU have to apply yourself. YOU have to be friendly and meet anyone that interests you. Don't follow others and do what you love.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot FSU provides a wide genre of classes so you can actually choose classes you'd like, and professors are always really enthusiastic about what their teaching and helpful.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, the staff is soo helpful, and there is always something to do. FSU definitely puts effort forth to make college not just school, but a lifestyle.
Bang for the buck You do pay a pretty penny, but you get the full University experience. The HUGE campus and endless social groups/clubs and great selection of Majors/Minors. The Financial Aid office is also great and will help with anything you need. There's also a great bus route for the campus and neighborhoods around it, a free movie theather, and the football games are crazyy.
Tips for prospective students Apply to the school/government financial aid as early as possible, TALK TO YOUR ADVISORS, don't buy a credit card, and assume attendance is mandatory.
Great for these types of students Students that are into the arts (especially Theater and Film), that are interested in Criminology (we have the best department in the country), or are interested in any Social Science field. Also great for students interested in the GREEK life or athletics.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The honors college provides access to smaller class sizes and incredible teachers that will make you feel like your receiving a private university education.
Will enjoy being here There is so much to do on campus and in Tallahassee. From a variety of clubs, to an excellent student government, to awesome football games that make you proud to be a Seminole, FSU has stuff to do. And don't forget about the nightlife and the range of sororities and fraternities.
Bang for the buck Scholarships are available to those who apply, and there is definitely a supply of them. And the tuition and cost of living is much more affordable than most top rated public universities.
Tips for prospective students Make a committment to becoming involved in the many things Florida State has to offer.
Great for these types of students Students who know how to balance their education and their social life will succeed at Florida State. Knowing how to have a good time, how to involve yourself in the community, and how to stay on top of your courses is the sure way to a wonderful college experience at FSU.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I came back from orientation completely sold on the educational values of the educators and pretty much the school as a whole. I really feel like I can learn and accomplish a lot here.
Will enjoy being here With all of the clubs there is definitely a place for everyone and though I wasn't expecting it the campus is an extremely friendly environment to reside upon.
Bang for the buck A lot of opportunities for financial aid and I can already tell that your counselors and advisors are truly looking out for your best interest.

Am enjoying being here Florida State University is a welcoming environment to new students. There are so many friendly people and so much diversity and extracurricular activities and opportunities that it is hard not to find a place to fit in!
Bang for the buck Florida State University provides many academic loans and Scholarships to help meet any financial concerns and has a great Academic Advising Counsel and Financial Services Department to help guide and aid students in the right direction for the best deal.
Tips for prospective students Get involved on campus! It's an easy way to make friends and great on your resume.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot Most of the professors have good ratings.
Will enjoy being here There are many on campus activities and events.
Bang for the buck Definitely cheaper than attending school out-of-state or at a private institution.
Tips for prospective students APPLY EARLY!! Not only for admission but for housing as well.. They do priority housing and many kids are left without housing due to not applying early. Find out about Living-Learning Communities as well.
Great for these types of students Any kind of student that is dedicated to school. They have students from all parts of the country and many from out-of-country.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot You will learn wherever you attend college but Florida State, in my opinion, gives you the most devoted and undivided attention. It has a great reputation for having a small school feel despite its size. The counselors have helped me out tremendously in helping me decide a major and choosing classes that will keep me on track. They actually give you a plan to follow to make sure you are set for graduation on time with no problems. I always hear of colleges that will last minute change their requirements or cancel a major, but FSU does the complete opposite. It is a school of tradition and they pride themselves on having not only the knowledge but the tools to help you graduate.
Will enjoy being here Tallahassee is a relatively small city but the campus is absolutely to die for. The all brick buildings add to a more northern feel which is what I was looking for in a Florida college. There is plenty to do whether on or off campus. There are some bad parts of town but where isn't there? It does get smoldering hot in the summer and freezing for a Florida winter but the fall is perfect. The football games are probably the most fun because anywhere there is a grand tradition there is an energetic crowd.
Bang for the buck As a Florida Resident, I found FSU to be the best and cheapest big school option for me. UF is more expensive and nowhere near as impressionable as FSU. UCF in Orlando has about he same price and FSU but they are still growing as a school. The University of Miami is private and therefore not fully covered by Bright Futures. I have an apartment for 430$ a month which is almost impossible to find anywhere else. FAU is the cheapest but Boca Raton is extremely expensive to live in.
Tips for prospective students I suggest joining a club or a intramural sport team to meet as many people as you can. I also suggest studying extremely hard because it's a very competitive school.
Great for these types of students Students who love tradition, a more northern feel, endless opportunities, outgoing and eager to explore type students.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot As the essence of college is getting out of the experience what is put into it, FSU is guaranteed to enhance one's education so long as one tries. There are infinite resources available to students; so as long as one is willing to put forth the effort, the knowledge will come flooding in.
Will enjoy being here Just based on Orientation, as I am signed up to attend in the fall, FSU is going to be a great experience! It's completely student oriented with a lot of clubs and organizations-- in other words, there's an active student life on campus to partake in. There is also a movie theater and a 24/7 gym on campus, so the sky's the limit at FSU.
Bang for the buck As a Florida resident with a college prepaid plan, it is sufficiently less money for me to go to FSU and still attain an excellent education. There are also tons of scholarship opportunities to help make up the difference.
Tips for prospective students Strive for good grades, participate in extracurriculars, and work to improve those test scores.
Great for these types of students I'd assume it'd be good for everyone, though some may be uncomfortable with the size of the school. It's definitely worth the visit though, if you're interested.
