The small class size allows the teachers to take more time to make sure students understand concepts. Most teachers will help in any way to make sure that each student understands the material before moving on. The math lab is a BIG help!

    Am enjoying being here

Its easy to make friends, and connections with others in your classes. The campus is small so more than likely the will have the same class with you again the next semester. Gainesville state is like its own small community.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is great!Financial aid office is helpful also!

Great for these types of students

If your like me and you would hate to even think about walking into a class with more than 20 students in it .. well gainesville is the place for you. The class size is just right!

Gainesville is certainly the best college to look at if you're unsure of a major. It's cheaper and the professor there are just as eager to help you learn. The class sizes are smaller and more intimate, assuring that getting help from a professor would be much easier than a class of 300+ students.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take this school for granted. It isn't the University of Georgia, but it's still a college and no matter how small the class or the amount of work you have to do, you're going to want to do the work. This isn't high school.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are the same as any other school. It's not a major University, but that doesn't mean it's classes are going to be easier or on a lower level. The classes here offer the same as what you'll get somewhere else.

    Dorm Life

On the Oconee Campus, there are no dorms. I do believe thought that the school does provide a list of apartments within the area for students to stay in.

    Food and Dining

Both Oakwood and Oconee campuses are located near sources of food.

    What to do for fun

The campus of Oconee is pretty small, but it's very comfortable to find a table outside and study or hang out with friends. Athens is also only a short drive away, which provides an endless amount of fun.

    Bang for the buck

I would say that this school is definitely worth the money. I was unsure of what I wanted to do, and I am still on the fence with it all, so I was not willing to pay a large sum of money just to take classes. The tuition is perfect for someone straight out of high school and unsure of what they want to do.

    Campus Safety

I feel very safe on campus. The Oconee campus is already pretty safe, it's in a small town that has a low crime rate. There is always a cop on site and the campus security can always be found and relied on.

The professors here are great! They are really helpful and understandable. They make sure you're on track and they keep you on notice on everything that's happening in class. If you need your professors, they're always there in their office or you can email them and they reply back right away.
Each professor has their own way of teaching the class and some might do it by lectures or notes but no matter how they teach they get the students inform and involved. I've learn a lot already in my first two week here at Gainesville State!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending Gainesville State. It's a nice campus and the people here are really friendly. May it be your classmates, your professors or the staff, everyone here is really friendly and patient with you. The class size is small which is wonderful because you feel more engaged with your classmates and your professors.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students shouldn't miss the chance to apply to Gainesville State. You might think that it's only a community school but in fact it's a part of the University System of GA. They have a variety of degrees for you to get. And they have a great transfer system. It's a wonderful college for you to have a great start of your first time in college.

Great for these types of students

Gainesville State is a great school for any students with any income or age. Gainesville State has low tuition which is good for new incoming students to start off. You can get your education anywhere but doing it for a lower price is even better. Gainesville State College is a amazing school to get your education from having you to be in debt.

    Am learning a lot

So far, the Professors that I have had have been very well informed in their fields. I did however have an Econ Professor who was Korean and still speaks some broken English haha. He was still a great teacher and I learned a lot in his class. All of the teachers love their students and will do anything to help. They are very reachable and involved with their students aswell so you are always able to ask questions and meet with them outside of class.

    Am enjoying being here

I attend the Oconee campus GSC and the college creates a very friendly atmosphere for its students. From couches in the hallways to the Cafe : Ine coffee shop in the main building. I always feel comfortable kicking back and studying, watching TV, or just hanging out with my friends. Be careful of the campus police though! They're very friendly, but they'll get you if you do something out of line.

    Bang for the buck

For the price that I am paying per year, I could only receive half the classes at a larger University like UGA. And being at Gainesville allows you access to everything in the University System of Georgia like the UGA library, which is a great resource. Also, many of the teachers at Gainesville have taught, or graduated from UGA. It is definitely more bang for the buck at Gainesville State College.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on attending GSC, make sure that you turn all of your paperwork in on time or early. Being a small college, they have limited staff and have a lot of work concerning Financial Aid and scholarships so it takes a little time for them to get everything done. The best advice I can give is DONT PROCRASTINATE ON FINANCIAL AID DEADLINES.

Great for these types of students

Students who prefer smaller class sizes and do better with the teacher interacting with the class will love Gainesville State College, at least the Oconee Campus. Here the classes are small and the Teacher knows you by name. If you feel that you would enjoy the larger, auditorium style classes, unfortunately GSC Oconee campus doesn't have any of those but I'm not sure about the Oakwood campus. But this was definitely a deciding factor for me when choosing the Gainesville Oconee campus.

In many cases, Gainesville State College is quite boring and dull; however, there are a few exceptional professors on campus that go well and above this average dullness. I find that it is the teachers that don't know how to teach that make the school weaker than what it should be. The best way to improve the school is to improve the faculty that teach it.

    Tips for prospective students

Always look at rate my professor before joining the class. If you do not, you might not get a good professor and your grades might suffer.

    Academic Rigor

The only thing the police on campus seem to worry about is parking violations (which students actually write up the violations) and pets on campus. Though I must admit that one officer asked me whether or not I was homeless one day while I was waiting for my carpool to pick me up. There is not much crime to report, but what violations they do have are mostly petty ones.

    Dorm Life

There is no dorm life; however, there is a wonderful apartment nearby (within walking distance) the school that is very pleasant.

    Food and Dining

There are only two places where you can eat on campus, and their food is somewhat decent, but if you do not like the food on campus there are many restaurants and fast food places to go to around campus.

    What to do for fun

There are several clubs on campus that should be able to suit your fancy. However, I personally don't know of any that I especially like.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is one building on campus near the back that no one ever seems to use, and behind that is the hiking/walking/biking trail that leads to the dorm-like apartments.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for the underachievers, as well as those students who are just wanting to achieve cheap basics before going on to a more expensive education.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs on campus, though I do not attend any and therefore can not really say how decent they are.

    Greek Life

I don't believe that Greek life exists on campus.

    Campus Safety

Not many people get hurt on campus, so it is fairly safe. Aside from the young and unexperienced drivers that is.

Gainesville State College has to be the college where students can in fact learn and ask questions inside and outside of class. The teachers that I had were actual professorials in their majors and were willingly eager to help. They are not student teachers who usually do not help and only pay attend to their studies.

    Dorm Life

gainesville state desperately needs teaching reformation and education updates. the teachers can be hard to learn from, but the school overall is nice. it is a budget-friendly way to start out a college career.

    Tips for prospective students

please check into your teachers and adjust your classes according to your liking so you can be comfortable and successful.

    Academic Rigor

the classes are moderately hard, but if your professor does not know how to teach very well, the class will be harder than it needs to be.

    Dorm Life

gainesville state has off-campus housing, which is nice, but then again is a little more expensive than on-campus housing. there aren't as many people staying in apartments, so there aren't too many things to do outside of school.

    Food and Dining

it is a school in the middle of a small city, so if you like night life, there will be something somewhere for you to do. you will have to find it, but there are a few restaurants and hang out spots in the local area.

    What to do for fun

i usually stick to my studies, so i don't usually go out. if you do want to have some fun, i would suggest restaurants in nearby cities and some underground clubs.

    Bang for the buck

the main reason i attend gainesville state college is because of the tuition price. no matter your major, you have to take core classes. you can get the same education locally as you can at an expensive school. i am going to school here for my core classes and transferring to a medical school later on so that i don't end up with more debt than i can afford.

This is a great college! The teachers are very helpful, and the school provides many resources to help you further your education. For example, we have a writing center, where you can go to get help on papers, and essays. We have a math lab, where math tutors are available to help you. There are so many resources at this college, and because of class size, teachers are able to better help you learn. All of the teachers I have had are very willing to take out time to help you, and or re-explain anything you do not understand. It is a fairly small campus but you get a great variety of classes, and teachers to choose from. Like I previously said, there is an abundance of resources, and help you can receive for classes. While there are plenty of new concepts that I did not receive in High school, I feel that many of my courses spent too much time going over things I have already learned; in science and history courses, more specifically.

    Am enjoying being here

This school is highly enjoyable, including a fantastic game room, friendly atmosphere and teachers, as well as friendly representives for student services. The nature trails, tennis courts, and expansive library are also extremely enjoyable, and help immensely with reasearch. There are many facilities to help make college enjoyable and managable.

You can't beat the price for this college. At just over $1300 tuition per semester, it's cheaper than most other colleges. It has

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure everything is on time; both your work and yourself. Lectures are very important here, and take up most of the courses. Ask questions, take detailed notes, and make sure you do all the assigned reading; your grades will show it if you don't, as teachers WILL ask questions from the books as well as their lectures; including information that is in one, but not the other.

Great for these types of students

GSC is great for students who wish to find out what college is like in a friendly, entertaining enviornment. It's slightly more strenuous than high school (probably not as much as other universities), but still offers a great place to go before transferring to another location, or perhaps to even get a degree, if your program is offered.
