Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here at Georgia State are very supportive and understanding. they actually take time to meet with student before and after class sessions so we may get a better understanding.
Am enjoying being here The small class sizes make learning at Georgia State very enjoyable. outside the classroom there are plenty of other exciting things to do. Being center in the heart of Atlanta, there is never a dull moment at GSU.
Bang for the buck You defenitely get more bang for your buck at Georgia State. If you have to pay for you education you want to make sure you are getting your money's' worth. GSU not only provides you with the education you need to obtain career level jobs, but also provides student with the opportunity to intern and gain experience in their field of interest.
Tips for prospective students Talk to your advisors within the first two weeks of class. They will help you decide weather or not the classes you are taking are actually necessary. Go to incept, it gives you a lot of helpful information about how things work at GSU. Finally, no matter what you think you want to major in take the Chemistry and Math placement test before you start your freshmen year.
Great for these types of students Georgia State is great for students who want to experience the thrill and excitement of city life while seeking a higher education.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here rally make sure you learn what you are there to learn. If you are falling behind, most of the teachers will give you plenty of opportunity to catch back up. the class sizes were very reasonable. I was able to develop a personal relationship with all my teachers, making it easier to learn!
Am enjoying being here I LOVE GEORGIA STATE!!! I would not want to be any where else. There is always so much to do on and off of campus. THe fact that the campus is located in downtown Atlanta is a huge plus!!!
Bang for the buck Everything penny you pay is worth it. There are so many free events that offer things like free food, prizes, just everything is free. The education is wonderful, and when you buy books the school buys them back when you are done. It is defiantly a bang for the buck!!!
Tips for prospective students Apply early, get extra money so you can have extra money to spend on the weekends, apply for housing as soon as the application is available. Good Luck
Great for these types of students people who love diversity, love the city life, like Georgia weather, want to learn and have fun at the same time.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot After attending Savannah State University. I want to attend Georgia State University because I believe this University will help me prepair myself for law school. I want to recieve my Masters Degree from Georgia State. Then I would like to proceed to law school. Since Georgia State University has a college of law, I think that it will help me a great deal with law school.
Will enjoy being here Georgia State University is located in the heart of Georgia. Atlanta is one of the top places to live among other places. Atlanta has a rich environment and I believe that living in Atlanta will get my feet wet with becoming a lawyer. I might be able to intern at some law firms in the Atlanta area. Atlanta is also a beautiful place to live.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There is a huge contrast between college and high school curriculum-wise. At Georgia State University, and probably any college, the classes you take are like finishing a years work of a high school class in just one semester. Like any school every professor is different in how they teach the material. Some are funny and exciting, while others make students wish they'd stay in bed that morning. I've had both kinds of professors this past semester, and I must say that I've had days where it was fun learning something new about muscles for example in my Biology 1110 Lab. There were also days in my Bio Lecture when I had to fight to keep my eyes open, and my mind focused. Regardless of each situation, I've learned more than what I thought I could learn in one semester. My professors all had my best interest in mind which was to succeed in their classes. If I ever brought up a subject that I was unclear about, they all helped me in any way they could.
Am enjoying being here I commute to Georgia State everyday, so I don't really stay on campus much. I love the area regardless. The only downside is the homeless and less fortunate you may run into on the way to Aderhold, a building where some classes are held. Campus police is available to escort anyone to class or to their car at any time of the day. Another down side is the fact that there have been instances where students have been robbed.
Tips for prospective students I have just finished my first semester at Georgia State University. As a freshman, I joined a Freshman Learning Community (FLC), a program that introduces freshmen to the college community, and helps students meet new people. An FLC consists of about 24 students who have similar majors or career paths, which makes it easier to make friends who have the same interests as you. There are several different types of FLCs; I am a nursing major, so I joined the Pre-Nursing FLC. I must say that I enjoyed being a part of the FLC. I entered GSU knowing very little about the nursing career, and I now realize that there are several awarding career paths one could take with a degree in nursing. Another benefit to being in an FLC is getting to know the campus, and having the opportunity to meet and interact with important faculty members such as members of the Advisement Center, and for me, I was able to interact with various nurses that visited from the School of Nursing at GSU. I was also able to meet people who shared the same classes with me, and we often formed study groups to study for tests, which help immensely for major exams.
Great for these types of students GSU is a great college for students who love city life, and diversity.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As a freshman music major, my review will focus on the school of music. The professors all have varied personalities which contribute to their unique teaching. However, the most impressive part of the school of music are the instrumental teachers. I have not heard one bad comment on the string, woodwind, brass, or voice professors. My viola teacher, Mrs. Clements, really loves discovering how to teach each individual student (she tells me about it every other lesson).
For the two core classes I have taken, I can see the teachers are more than competent. They are very knowledgeable in their subject and can answer any questions students have comprehensively. If the teachers for core classes are this amazing, I can only imagine how great the teachers for non-core classes will be in the future.Am enjoying being here Even though I tend to be an introvert, I have had a lot of opportunities to participate in a variety of events even before school started! Many clubs hold cookouts to recruit new members, and each floor of the dorms even hosts a variety of activities. The school of music hosts free concerts nearly every day in the recital halls.
However, the Freshman Hall is quite noisy during the nights, especially on Thursday from all the people who have no Friday classes. If you're going to live there, bring some earplugs for studying and peace of night.Bang for the buck Since I am a citizen of Georgia, the school definitely provides more than enough bang for the buck. The facilities are great and the library has some really good resources, like free and legal sheet music!
However, the dining hall and many of the restaurants close on the weekends. If you cannot go home on the weekends, you have very limited choices of where to eat. Also, the music building is very old and the practice rooms are not entirely soundproof, but they suffice.Tips for prospective students College is lots of studying and some work, depending on the classes you take. You get a fewer grades which carry more weight on your final grade and your teachers do not pass out progress reports, so you need to keep track of your grades yourself. Hold on to your syllabuses. They outline all the rules of the classroom, but more importantly, they tell you the percentages homework, quizzes, and tests are worth. Learn how to study and take notes before college so you know what to do in college.
Learn who your professors and how they teach. Pay attention to who is going to teach you when you register for classes; there is usually more than one choice. Go to ratemyprofessors.com and see their worth as a professor from the students' point of view.
It is in the city, so you will learn how to walk whether you like to or not.
As for music majors, practice practice practice! Practice your scales, practice your orchestra music, and practice your private lesson music. If you are easily distracted, find a practice room with no windows and no piano. Just reserve a time in the afternoon if you plan on practicing then because the practice rooms at that time are packed.Great for these types of students If you have a great interest in music but don't want to be in debt your entire life from your college (Juilliard), come here. The instrumental teachers are awesome and the professors are good, including core-classes teachers. If you are not a music major, come if you want a lot of opportunity. Many opportunities are available at Georgia State, so if you like opportunity, please come.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The instructors here are amazing. Every instructor I have had thus far has been willing to help out in any aspect of my school work. All you need to do is ASK for the help. The professors are very accommodating tot he students needs and are prepared to answer any questions they have for them. Even the graduate students you find teaching classes know their stuff. Everyone is easy to understand. The work is tough, but that's what you are in college for... right?
Am enjoying being here I enjoy the facilities of Georgia State very much. The students and staff are all very lively. This category loses a star because of the fact it is located right in the heart of downtown. I'm not a city person but don't get the idea that this is totally a bad thing. If you are living on campus it means there is everything you could possibly need within walking distance. However, it is walking through the city. Sometimes when it rains you find yourself a fair distance from where you need to be. But if you know your way around sometimes you don't need to set foot outside due tot he number of buildings Georgia State owns. There are also the street panhandlers to think about. And just walking the streets in general. On the other side there are over 100 restaurants right on or next to campus so you have quite a selection. The housing facilities on campus are very nice (Some better than the apartments I lived in once). And the meal plan is decent.
Bang for the buck Okay so its not the least expensive school in Georgia. The number of facilities Georgia State owns and operates is constantly growing and those student fees are very reasonable considering all the school has to offer (assuming you use it all). From an enormous Gym which includes a few basket ball courts, indoor track, many tread mills (with t.v.'s to watch in there), raquet ball courts, weightlifting areas, an Olympic sized swimming pool, and a game room with pool tables, etc.. Then you have the enormous Library building that has yet to fail my reading wants and needs. Then there is the career service center that helps with resumes ( & much more), the instructional technology center (helps in training of computer equipment and programs used for teaching or just for students to get a better grasp on things). As well as my personal favorite, the Digital Aquarium, where supplies such as video cameras, green screens, and SLR cameras are available for lease from the school. And many. many more. As far as on campus housing goes you couldn't ask for a better deal. The room and board cost is great for the downtown area and safe and secure. The rooms are of above average size for a college campus and provide a very comfortable living area for residents. The meal plan is also a fairly good deal if you eat all 3 meals a day every day other wise eating out might be cheaper if you plan on eating out a lot to begin with. The meals are of wide variety and substantial. Over all pretty good.
Tips for prospective students Okay so here are my tips:
1) Sit next to the smart people.... Not to cheat or anything but they are just as likely to teach you something as your professor is (assuming you are listening to them which brings me to...)
2) Listen to your professors. Classes aren't too hard as long as you pay attention. And not only listen to your professors but your classmates as well.
3) Make good use of the resources provided to you by the school. After all you are paying for them.
4) When signing up for classes check size of class to determine if it is going to be in a lecture hall or not (this may not matter to you but if it does it is nice to know before hand so you can plan for the class accordingly)Great for these types of students This school is great for students who need some small classes for more direct subject material but can also learn in a large lecture hall for some other classes of varying degrees of importance. It's also a great school for students who are willing to learn and live in the city.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love Everything about this school. I have had some of the craziest and passionate teachers here. It is challenging sometimes but its all worth it in the end.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy being here because this is a very unconventional university. We are located in downtown Atlanta. This means that there is always something to do and you are not as limited if you don't have a car. And to top it off the food here is really amazing.
Bang for the buck It is cheaper that most of the four year universities that I was considering before I made my final decision. But this doesn't mean you will be compromising on the quality of education that you will be receiving her. I have had professors that studied at some of the most prestigious Universities around the world.
Tips for prospective students There is a university out there to fit every personality. Just find someplace that fits all the things you want in a university.
Great for these types of students This school is great for people looking for something that's a little different from the normal college. And for anyone looking for one of the best business schools in the southeastern region.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I feel as thought the classes really do enhance your knowledge of each course. Because of my African American History class I can name ten African ethnic groups that I never knew. I've learned in English how to compose a creative thesis statement and gone into a deeper understanding of Human Communication and how it works in my Speech class. I truly believe the professors at Georgia State know what they are talking about and are capable of molding young minds.
Am enjoying being here I'm from a small college town and am glad I choose Georgia State as my school if choice. I like the city and everything it has to offer, there is never a moment where I have nothing to do. Right in the middle of downtown with plenty of interesting people.
Bang for the buck I feel this was the best choice for me as cost goes for. Your money will not go to waste if you choose this school, tutoring, campus events, and organizations sets this school far apart from other campuses. With so much to do with the quality of an education you can't go wrong.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are about your business. While State may be exciting you have to prioritize ahead of time so you can actually enjoy these times. Time Management is KEY. If you can master that get ready to enjoy the next four years.
Great for these types of students Speaking to a counselor about how you can manage your time at State. They are also available to discuss anything, if you're feeling stressed, lonely, left out, or hurt don't be afraid to see them. You'll appreciate it in the long run.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot i am learning a lot at this school but i don't give full credit to the school. i give full credit to the teachers i had who had the determination, heart, and want to teach. however i do give the school some credit because they hired these teachers.
Am enjoying being here i enjoy being at this school because its in a area that i am somewhat familiar with. i also like being here because i feel at home because the people are nice and welcoming.
Bang for the buck although i like being at this school, and the education is pretty good, i still feel like I'm not getting enough for what i pay. for example, tuition, housing, and student activities fees are going up, while there are not enough classes for all the students enrolled at this school. one of the classes i need to fulfill my prerequisites only has five available classes and they are already full. also with the student activity fees, they have just raised them by 200 dollars and i don't feel like the activities that they have planned are worth that amount per person. furthermore, the housing fees have went up also and i don't think they should have because they haven't renovated anything so it isn't worth more than it was before. also with the small space it still isn't worth the amount we pay. i feel like were being cheated out of money.
Tips for prospective students if your looking for a good school and don't care about how much it costs or have scholarships then this is a good school for you. so my advice is to get good grades, participate in sports throughout high school. also try out for a lot of scholarships.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Georgia state has great professors who are willing to help you and Keep you motivated to go to class and learn more. There are alot of opportunities for growth in your desired field.
Am enjoying being here Yes, there are clubs everywhere. There alot of social events like fashion shows, fundraising events, and concerts. They have famous speakers and it's always something to do. For people who are athletic there's the gym which is wonderful with track, aand weights, sauna and pool. There are intramural clubs and sporting teams that you can join if you don't want to play on the GSU team. The library is stacked with books for all types of research and GSU has a wonderful set of librarians and technology expertised people.
Bang for the buck I am a poor student but i can afford lunch anyday. It's high but the food is good. I have Hope so I don't have to come much out of pocket but I do have to pay about 200-300 dollars after tuition. There are alot of events that offer free food and attendance.
Tips for prospective students Come prepared to work! Read every night! MEET WITH ALL PROFESSORS! Listen. You need to make sure that you talk to your advisors each semester because you need to make sure that you are on the right path and on your way to a successful college graduation.
Great for these types of students It's great for kids who wanna be close to home and likes diversified races!

3rd Generation GSU Student from Doraville, GA
Reviewer is A current student here.
Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here are top-notch, no doubt about it, due in part because Georgia State is a research university; professors are doing research along with teaching as well. They really know their stuff and you'll find that most professors (well, all of the professors that I've encountered so far) are really passionate about what they teach. They are also really helpful and more than willing to meet with you during their office hours or answer any questions via email if you needed additional clarification.
Am enjoying being here To be honest, I did not want to go to GSU at first mainly because both of my older sisters went there. I wanted to go somewhere different, but I'm glad I chose GSU over my top choice school (UGA). Five stars is not enough stars to describe how much I truly love it here. Honestly, Georgia State is underrated. I've heard so many bad things about GSU and I've heard people put GSU down but that's all just a misconception and a misunderstanding. After the first few weeks of attending GSU, I was surprised to find out how much I truly love GSU. The atmosphere and vibe of being in the heart of downtown is something no other Georgia college/university has to offer. I'm in the Honors Program here and it's been absolutely great. I've enjoyed all of my classes so far. There's plenty of things to do, people to meet, and resources to use. It's all a matter of putting yourself out there and getting the most out of your experience.
Bang for the buck I live off-campus to save money on housing and I use Marta. GSU offers a great discount on monthly Marta cards for students (savings of $27 a month) and GSU is located conveniently in between the GA State Station (Blue/Green Line) and the Five Points Station & Peachtree Center Station (Red/Gold Line). With the new changes to HOPE, money's going to be a tight stretch for both incoming and current students. GSU offers great facilities such as the SRC and there's ALWAYS an event going on (and I honestly do mean ALWAYS). But, of course, every college could cut back on spending to make it more affordable for their students.
Tips for prospective students 1. Entering college is like moving to a new school in a different area; it's a brand new start where nobody knows who you are. So if you were the introverted, shy kid in high school, you can be the extroverted, funny kid in college. Nobody has to know. ;)
2. Don't be afraid to ask questions. People are always more than willing to help. Ask for advice and tips on classes and such from current students.
3. A great resource when planning out your schedule: ratemyprofessors.com Learn to LOVE it and cherish it; it'll become your best friend. Guaranteed.
4. Another great tip: go online and rent your textbooks. There are plenty of textbook websites that offer free shipping/returns for textbook rentals. It's a great money-saver as opposed to buying a textbook and trying to turn around and sell it.
5. Attend class. Just do it. Most professors base their tests and exams on their notes in-class. Just go. Students don't realize that it is YOUR money that YOU are PAYING to go to class. If you skip all the time, that's just a waste of your money.
6. School is still school. In college, though, you have to pay for books and classes. Be smart about your money and your time.
7. Enjoy the freedoms that comes with college but don't take anything for granted.Great for these types of students GSU is for the people who love the urban feel and raw edge of the city, who also love being in a diverse, open-minded cultural melting pot and love meeting people from all walks of life. If you don't really care for a pretty college campus and don't mind the hustle and bustle of the city, then GSU's the right place for you.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot Classes were just okay, nothing great. I don't know how they rate tht high- my 1 year there I was not very impressed.
Did enjoy being here It's a miserable location. Crime is pretty bad, and students are crime victims on a regular basis. Car thefts, break-ins, panhandlers and crackheads bug you walking to class and at Marta. Whether you take Marta, commute & park, or live on campus, it's not a safe environment. I felt unsafe as a guy- girls should be terrified.
Not the kind of place you want to be after dark. Daytime is a little better, but not much. Why go to a place where you can't feel safe? Crime rates in this part of Atlanta are the highest in the city. It's just nasty. Looks, feels, and smells nasty. The campus tour and recruiters are VERY deceiving.Bang for the buck For my money, it was much better spent elsewhere- anywhere but at Ga. State!
Tips for prospective students If you go here, be ready to be hassled all the time by prostitutes, druggies, homeless people, and criminals. The environment on and around campus is awful. Not what you expect the typical colege experience to be like. My car was broken into TWICE in the first semester in the parking decks. The commute is long- you're going with the rest of the rush hour traffic into the heart of the city. I tried Marta and that was no better. Commuting is expensive, the dorms are also expensive. Dorms are loud- lots of hip-hop rapper thug wannabees live there. Also they are expensive. Food on and near campus is bad & expensive. Vibrant exciting city? Thats how they sell it. Don't believe it! Typical tourist sites is it. How many times can you visit the same attractions you grew up with?
Great for these types of students If you like the urban ghetto scene, it's perfect for you. You NEVER feel safe here. Lots of walking from building to building. It's not a real campus- just mostly converted office buildings into classrooms. This is the stepchild of the Ga. Univ. system. It's just nasty.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Georgia State is a huge melting pot of thoughts and opinions. If I hadn't come to Georgia State, I wouldn't have formed all of the opinions that I believe in or found out all of my choices about graduate studies. One positive point about GSU is that there is always a fresh debate brewing and always some new view to explore. Even the most unlikely person on the street can teach you something here.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE this school! Being in the heart of Atlanta has let me experience so many more things than if I was on another campus in the middle of nowhere. Here, you get to learn how to handle real world situations and interact with people from all over the world.
Bang for the buck A Georgia State education is a great bargain. Between the social experience, life long friendships, and wonderful classroom experience, you get more than your money's worth.
Tips for prospective students If you are planning to come to Georgia State, walk the campus. Have a day with a current student so that you can discover the REAL Georgia State. Eat on Broad Street, sit in on a class, ride the train, and, of course, visit the One Stop Shop, where no question ever goes unanswered.
Great for these types of students Georgia State is a great place for any student. With so many people on this campus, it's really easy to find your niche or start a new one! I would say that the majority of Georgia State students are really social. Even if you are a shy person, you will find tons of friends here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Classes in college are quite different than they were in high school, but Georgia State helps their students adapt and succeed despite the differences. Usually professors are willing to help students when there is difficulty learning the material. With only having about an average of two to three classes a day, there is more time to study for classes and really get into the material you're learning. There is also SI (Supplemental Instruction) and tutors to help with learning the material.
Am enjoying being here There's always something happening in Georgia State because it's right in the midst of Atlanta. Everyday some different happens. GSU also is known for it's diversity of students, and the only way to understand it is to experience it. There are so many people from so many different backgrounds. There's always something new to look forward to.
Bang for the buck Coming to GSU, you're really getting what you pay for. Georgia State offers so many resources. They have an awesome Rec Center where you can take dance, yoga, martial art, etc. classes. They have computer labs, language lab, and really cool student organizations.
Tips for prospective students GSU wasn't my first choice when it came to college but now that I'm here I couldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I recommend joining a Freshmen Learning Community coming in your first year. FLC's really help build friendships and a community that you can study and hang out with.
Great for these types of students Georgia State is great for students who like adventure, trying new things, and the city life.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State University is a very engaging urban campus in the heart of downtown Atlanta, GA. It is the home to over 30000 diverse students, and faculty. Even though the university is located downtown, it has a tight-knit community feel.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you go down to campus a few days before classes begin to get your bearing. The campus is rather large and intimidating when you first get there, and you want to have some idea where your classes are.
Academic Rigor GSU of today is definitely a different place from when our parents went to school. With a new science building GSU is working hard to make everyone in the state of Georgia to take them seriously. Student have to be hard workers and take their academics seriously. The good thing is the teachers her want to make sure their students are learning. So put in the effort and you will be rewarded with a great education.
Dorm Life Dorm life at GSU is also something that has changed dramatically in the last couple years. They have built and remodeled all the dorms on campus and in comparison to other school the dorms are a dream. You will not be sharing a bathroom with a hall full of students, but just the people in your apartment or suite.
Food and Dining Being downtown gives you a wide array of options in terms of food choices. You are able to go to traditional fast food chains or eat many types of foreign delicacies. But once you money runs low, you can still have a great meal at the dining halls and food courts on campus. The food in the dining halls are very convenient and surprisingly really good.
What to do for fun Downtown Atlanta is home to many types of activities, from professional sports teams, world-renown plays, megastars coming in to preform, and cultural festivals. There isn't a shortage of things to do. The good thing about GSU is they often offer discounts to these activities and even sponsor days where you can do things around town for free. GSU definitely takes care of its students. They even have a movie theater on campus where you can see a movie between classes for FREE!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I like GSU because it's a nice school regardless of not having a traditional campus per se. I really enjoyed the atmosphere when I visited and am planning on attending for Fall 2012. The only thing that makes me a bit nervous is the intercity location and Atlanta isn't the safest, but no major city is.
Tips for prospective students Always be on your guard. Advocate the buddy system at least for the first few months, until being completely comfortable with the urban environment.
Academic Rigor I find that the course curriculum appears to be stringent enough to challenge someone at any caliber, as long as adequate work is administered.
Dorm Life The dorming options are pretty awesome. I plan to live in the University Commons with a roommate.
Food and Dining I'm not sure about the food because I have yet to experience any, but I do know there are many restuarants in the surrounding area.
Bang for the buck I think the school is worth the tuition. The scholarship options are great and with HOPE, it becomes incredibly affordable.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences GSU's huge campus is the heart of Atlanta, so don't be surprised to find new faces everyday. Thanks to the size of the school, there is always something to do when you need a break from studying. The gym is amazing, and there are various fitness classes you can try.
Tips for prospective students There is some red tape that you may have to apply a hacksaw to once you are accepted, but if you keep in touch with the Admissions Office and One Stop Shop, you will have no problem.
Academic Rigor There core curriculum covers many subjects that you may not consider learning about before you actually sit down in the class. The school aims to expose you to the diversity of not just the world, but the ways of thinking.
Dorm Life The dorms here are great and comfortable, but there are strict visitation rules for non-student visitors.
Food and Dining There are many places to eat on and off campus. If you flash your PantherCard to some off-campus restaurants you will get a discount or be able to use your PantherCash to pay.
What to do for fun Go to Cinefest, the school's free on-campus theater for some great movies. There are plenty on-campus events like concerts and sports, but if you need to get off campus, check out the discounted tickets to events around town or current blockbuster movies.
Bang for the buck Your student tuition and fees goes not just your classes, but the gym, the on campus theater, campus events, workshops, career services, and much more. You are getting your bang for your buck by just going to classes, but why ignore the rest of the stuff you are getting?
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Rub the nose of Pounce, the 75-pound bronze panther statue, for good luck!
Clubs and Activities I can't even name every single club and organization on campus. You will find that we have a website dedicated to showcasing the school's clubs and organizations.
Greek Life I am not a part of Greek Life, but everyone I've met who is a part of Greek are nice and friendly.
Campus Safety We have our own police force that will do escorts and vehicle assistance as well as respond to emergencies (reported by phone or the emergency call boxes). The force has a strong presence around campus and a quick response time.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I definitely learn a lot at GSU from day to day. You learn how to save your money for one. Things are so expensive that you have to know when and where to buy lunch and textbooks....Amazon is your friend for textbooks and McDonald's, Kenleys, and waffle house for food. Another thing I learn, besides the academic stuff of course, is how to pay attention and read signs. Every street has a name and so does every building, so I learned to take note of that instead of asking for directions every 5 mins. I also learned different pass times. Everyone here is different so when you really get to know people you learn that there are ALOT of things to do to keep you occupied. For example extreme jumping! A major thing I learned was where the clubs and parties are held...its kind of hard not to know when they're so many people handing out invites/flyers everywhere. Lastly I learned where to park. At Georgia State if you're a commuter or even if you stay on campus but have a car, you're going to need to learn this. There are many places to park BUT (going back to the 1st thing I learned) some are WAYY cheaper. For example parking at turner field is the best route, granted they don't have any morning or evening games that day. Make sure if you commute that you arrive early to whatever parking deck or parking lot you choose, they fill fast.
Am enjoying being here It's a real enjoyment to be here. The freedom is awesome. No teacher hounding me, no supervisors calling my parents to see why I missed class that day, no body staying on you're case. Another enjoyment is the ladies, they are definitely easy on the eyes. The instructors are down to earth (for the most part) and most people are very approachable.
Bang for the buck You do get enough for you're money. We have a lot of get together and events where you can get free food and items. The thing is you really have to pay attention and keep up with the dates of the events so you can take full advantage of what you paying for. When you pay each semester, you're paying for classes, library, recreation center, and...that's all I could think of. when we have football games though, students do get in for free. When you want to see a movie you can come down to our FREE FOR STUDENTS theater. The professors and doctors love what they do so they make learning really fun. There are way more things I'm forgetting, but overall it is worth it.
Tips for prospective students My tips for anyone thinking about coming here are: get used to the sun and the heat, get used to walking, and talk to people. Everyone feels nervous from time to time but knowing people can make it a whole lot easier. Definitely visit the school before the first day so you can know where some things are if not all. They have tours that you can sign up for, so do that learn the campus and dont get lost lol. Also, always check/research your instructors before that year begins on ratemyprofessor.com so you can get a really good one. Ask about parking information at turner field if you're a commuter. Check the rec center for clubs (hapkido, karate, zumba, etc) because they fill up fast and they have deadlines. Check the rec for free clubs as well (kickboxing, ab blasts, etc). Check your student account for scholarship updates regularly.
Great for these types of students This school is great for anyone that is friendly (I guess that would go for any college though), anyone that doesn't mind the city sights and smells, and just anyone who is looking to succeed in life AND can handle the work load. I have also heard that we have an excellent business school so business majors welcome to paradise. I know for a fact that we have a superb nursing program so nursing students welcome as well! Finally anyone who likes big institutions with huge amounts of students this is for you.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I have only met a few core professors and they seem more than qualified.
Will enjoy being here The students and faculty here are so friendly! I recently attended Incept and my experience was great! Most of my concerns about being a new freshman almost disappeared. Also I've learned that there are many student organizations to get involved with and that there's a place for everyone.
Bang for the buck I'm excited to know that the bookstore buys back books after students are done with them.
Tips for prospective students Sign up for an FLC. Yes they have certain themes, but there are many to chose from and it doesn't have to go with your major. When you sign up for an FLC you'll know about 24 of the same students in all your classes. This means you'll know 24 people you can contact if you miss a class or walk to classes together or just become friends with.
Great for these types of students I haven't started yet, but this is definitely a great place for diversity!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Most of the teachers at Georgia State are very professional, encouraging and helpful to students. They are very intelligent and are willing to aid students during office hours and set up other meetings at the students' convenience.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy the urban setting and alternate school setting. Georgia State isn't like a classic college campus and I like it that way. You get the feel of downtown Atlanta with college security. It's a great place to have the inner city feel but still gain a great education.
Bang for the buck Georgia State is moderately priced and you gain a top notch education, so I would say that you definitely get your moneys worth.
Tips for prospective students Don't worry. I was freaked out when I first went to college, but it was completely unnecessary. After my first day I wasn't worried anymore. My teachers were so sweet and even the students on the street are helpful. I got a little turned around because of the big campus but an older student was there to point me in the right direction. It's a very friendly school so there is no need to be afraid of college. As long as you go to class, pay attention and try your hardest everything will be fine.
Great for these types of students Students wanting to live in an urban area
Students who want constant activities even outside of school
Students wanting an easy commute
Students who appreciate understanding teachers
Students who don't mind a non-traditional campus setting

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As with any college, you are going to have teachers who are a little off-key. Even the teachers that didn't share my views were beneficial to my learning process though. You honestly can not NOT learn something in every single class, whether or not relevant to your intended major.
Am enjoying being here I am a commuter student, so I don't get to spend a lot of time on campus. When I do, I love every second of campus life. There is always something fun to do. Panther Prowl meetings in the courtyard, plays at the Rialto Center, and academic opportunities go on almost everyday. It is a very high-spirited campus to be on.
Bang for the buck I would definitely consider Georgia State worth the money. So many opportunities are provided to get you started on your career and the environment is so original. By far one of the most diverse campuses to be on. It's a great place to meet new people from all around the world and talk to people who share your views and even people who do not. Either way, you learn from everyone who is going through the same thing as you and may have more knowledge on what to do and what steps to take to better yourself as a person.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely suggest that you try to live on campus. Campus is where everything you need is going to be, so it's important that you be close. Another tip would be to do the Freshman Learning Communities that are only provided at GA State. FLCs are relatively small groups that have the same classes as you who share your interests so you can make friends easier during your first semester of college. This is extremely helpful in helping you keep and maintain friends through that first semester.
Great for these types of students Anyone can benefit from attending Georgia State University. Everyone wants to meet people of like-minds, and at GSU it is impossible NOT to meet someone you connect with.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At Georgia State University, the test that professors give are all encompassing. I like it because I acquire a lot of knowledge in the short semester time period. They also offer Supplemental Instruction, free tutoring, for classes. I take advantage of them and they help a lot. I feel more confident for that class after attending these sessions.
Am enjoying being here Living in the city is amazing. I love feeling independent. There are a lot of fun activities, sports, and clubs. There is something for everyone here. Housing is great because there are a lot of activities and organizations that come with it.
Bang for the buck As far as attending college, you get what you pay for. The programs are very good at this accredited university. Housing is expensive, but worth it, the atmosphere is awesome and the people are great. The only downside is eating and shopping is expensive.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you are a disciplined student because the city can be distracting. Make sure your schedule works for you. Be involved on campus, when you have nothing to do, you don't feel like doing anything.
Great for these types of students It's great for the students that do not want a traditional college campus. Also for people who are looking to feel more independent. Its also great for people who love to network and take advantage of all the job opportunities all over the world. Its also great for students that want to have a great college experience.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers are pretty good. The classes are a lot easier than I expected them to be.
Am enjoying being here There is always something going on on campus, but sometimes that can become a distration when you have a lot of homework lol
Bang for the buck Its pretty expensive and its not really worth it. The prices went way up because of the football team.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you apply for housing extremely early! They don't have enough housing for the amount of students they except. They don't care if you're a freshman or not housing is first come first serve. I got stuck living in a hotel that they through together for those of us who didn't get housing and it sucks.
Great for these types of students If you like living in the big city and you don't mind not having a lot of room.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia is a diverse with the potential to spread academic advantage all across the globe. They are a school that gives college students a true feel of the real world by surrounding you with a cultural scale. If you are looking for a school that gives you a strategic learning environment, new culturally diverse friends, and a decent social life, then Georgia State is your school.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you come to visit the school just to learn your way around a few times. Once you've found that, it'll be easier to avoid sketchy areas you may not feel safe walking alone in
What to do for fun Just walk around and take in the sights, or visit some of the shopping areas, or visit historic landmarks, or just chilling the nice open area of Centennial Park. These are just few of the many things you will be able to do in just your freshman year of college!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State is overall a very good school for students who enjoy the city life and who appreciate having a lot of opportunities on and outside campus. This school is currently growing; while it is not a terribly well-known name around the country, some of the programs here are becoming well-respected and are some of the top in the nation. GSU is also just as diverse as people say it is, from students to professors to extra-curricular activities.
Tips for prospective students When you need information from the school or if you have to turn something in for financial aid or to the One Stop Shop, do not just assume that they received whatever it was that they needed. Keep tabs on your paperwork! The school is quite large so it's easy to become just a number and have your money/paperwork/etc. get lost in the shuffle. Make sure you keep all receipts and forms that you have filled out so that you don't get dropped from classes or something!
Academic Rigor At the level of freshmen and sophomores, classes are truly not very difficult. However, as you get into classes that are more specific to your major as a junior and senior, things get really hard really fast.
Dorm Life The dorms are all relatively new and are some of the best in the nation. However, GSU is still transitioning from being a commuter school, so it's not likely that most of the people you know will also be dorming.
Food and Dining The dining halls here were originally supposed to be open 24/7, but for some reason that didn't happen. The food here is pretty good, for the horror stories you hear about college food, but it gets pretty boring pretty quickly.
What to do for fun Anything! Centennial Olympic Park and Piedmont Park are nearby with a ton of things to do, from swimming to just playing frisbee in the grass. The High Museum of Art is a few miles up the road, with student nights where you can go for free. The Indian Springs Pool is also open to students for some holidays for free, with shuttles there and back and free food. Clubs also offer a lot of different activities, from trips out of the country and state to coffee shop jam sessions. GSU even offers discounted Six Flags nights!
Bang for the buck This school's tuition is very cheap for in-state students with the HOPE scholarship. For example, with HOPE I'll get out of my undergrad with only $10K in student loan debt, maximum. The professors are also very knowlegdeable and come from schools all over the world. You'll get a great education here for very little money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The library courtyard is a really interesting place to go on campus. There's always a ton of people there studying, chilling, even sleeping, haha. Also, on Tuesdays and Thursdays around lunch time all the clubs and organizations come out and set up tables to recruit people. They usually have a live band or a DJ playing music, and some of the sororities and frats will have performances.
Great for these types of students GSU is great for students who are very self-motivated. No one's going to check up on you, you have to keep track of your own well-being. Students here also need to be cool with living in a major city. Atlanta doesn't have a great reputation for being a big and diverse place, but it really is. It can be overwhelming for students who should've gone to a small school.
Clubs and Activities I'm just going to say that there is LITERALLY something for everybody.
Greek Life The Greek life here is mostly centered around diversity and service. Of course, there are parties and such as you would expect when hearing about Greek, but for the most part those who participate in Greek life are a group of students who are community-oriented, participate in service projects, and who genuinely care about their school and peers.
Campus Safety We have cops that drive Chargers around. They're here ALL THE TIME. I've been on campus when no one else was around and they're still rolling around. There's always some safety precaution around, no matter where you are on campus. Just don't walk around at 1am with your phone out and you'll be fine. The worst thing that happens here are sudden snatchings of phones and iPods and whatnot late at night when people walk around by themselves, which is kind of foolish anyways.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State is a great environment with a unique experience that I believe is far advanced in terms of real-life situations. Students can experience people from all ethnicity's and walks of life here at school, which is rewarding in the long run. The programs offered at Georgia State are very specific to help any student with specific needs or interests that are not offered at other universities.
Tips for prospective students Be prepared for this school and make sure it is right for you. Find out if you want to live on campus in the downtown urban environment. Students often complain about Georgia State because it is not a typical college, but that is exactly why I love it. Regardless, the best can always be made of any situation and do not forget you are at school to study and obtain a degree.
Academic Rigor I am in the music program which requires a lot of my time and effort. I enjoy music so this is no problem at all, but for some it may be too much. As far as core classes go, I have had a good experience so far with each teacher being well versed in the material and challenging students to learn and not just make a grade.
Dorm Life The dorm life is hard to compare to other schools, because it is unlike any other school. I loved living in the city and I believe it provides great opportunities and experiences for people to grow ahead of those living at home or on another campus.
Food and Dining The campus serves typical cafeteria food, which is edible and appeals to many different cultural diets. The only problem is that is closes relatively early and the weekends force students to use only 1 dining hall that has a small window of hours.
What to do for fun There are many activities that Georgia State offers. A number of clubs are available as well as a Greek system for people of any race. The recreational center provides enjoyment for people who want to play sports of various kinds as well as a rock climbing wall and a well developed weight room. The Rialto and music program provide frequent entertainment at night, or during lunch time that involve student art and music. In addition to that, the downtown location holds other off-campus activities that can be accessed even without a car.
Bang for the buck If you like jazz or world music, the Rialto provides discounted student tickets for concerts which are held every month. The artists that play are renown world-wide and often feature guest artists who hold equal status.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus It is located in the city. The campus will bring entertainment often during the day and at night. Georgia State experiences bits of history at times, as it is located in the heart of Atlanta. (Occupy Atlanta took place my Freshman year).
Great for these types of students All types of students. College is what you make out of it and Georgia State is for people of all walks of life and ethnicity's.
Clubs and Activities Most anything a student is looking for can be found at Georgia State.
Greek Life I was not a member of the Greek system, but I had friends in the Greek system and they are very accepting of all people and have fun from what I know.
Campus Safety Georgia State provides real police which are spread across the entire campus and constantly on alert.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State University has a variety of diversity that populates this school so well. There are plenty of activities that you can join and be apart of and many opportunities are vast out in the downtown Atlanta area. Overall, you will a memorable time at this school.
Tips for prospective students Since you are in the heart of downtown, personal valuables are sacred. There are some crime rates when it comes to snatching of cell phones, purses, etc. Just don't have everything at hand while outside. If you plan to stay on campus, make sure you lock up anything that you treasure because you may not have a trustworthy roommate, but other than that not much to worry.
Academic Rigor I personally had some great professors. So not much complaints here. Ask around to get insights of professors.
Dorm Life I guess it's okay. It depends on your roommate and the way you are. Surround yourself with the right people. You will encounter those completely opposite from you even with age, gender, race, etc. The dorm life overall, it's still fun though.
Food and Dining No comment. If you can cook. Cook for yourself. The dining is not that bad but if you're very picky (as I am) then you're better off staying in dorms that provide kitchens.
What to do for fun There is too much around to not have anything to do. Honestly, from clubs to activities promoted by the school, extracurricular activities that are not included with the school there's no way you can be bored.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences GSU is a diverse school that is easy to get lost in. Located in downtown Atlanta gives students amazing opportunities for internships and careers. The university is continually growing not only with students, but with titles, accreditation, and geographic size.
Tips for prospective students Do not plan to bring more than enough items if staying in the Freshman dorms. If staying in the Commons, Lofts, or Piedmont North building be well aware that you are living with upperclassmen and they can tell who is and isn't a freshman. Try to stay as ahead as possible in work for class because that will be a major benefit for tests and quizzes.
Academic Rigor Keep in contact with your professors so that that they will be lenient with you if any given situation comes up. Professors are not all the same but most are willing to work with you in emergency situations. The work isn't hard but if you don't stay caught up you will fall behind very quick.
Dorm Life GSU's dorms are all located on the same street, with Piedmont North being the furthest from campus. The Commons is one of the largest dorms located in the U.S, and made up of four buildings. Freshman Hall is the most interactive dorm because of the closeness of new incoming freshman, and the closeness of the rooms. The Lofts is composed of current students but could include situations such as families living there.
Food and Dining There is just about every fast food restaurant that you could think of around GSU. The campus food, though could have it's good and bad days which are located at Freshman Hall and the Lofts. If you don't have a meal plan there are always ethnic food cuisines around the campus as well.
What to do for fun The sports events are what bring the students together. There are many parties (like one everyday), and many different type of shows which could get you known. There are many concerts that happen and many GSU students just love to go out with friends and actually have fun off campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I rate Georgia State an eight on a one to ten scale. With its diverse campus and a vast variety of clubs and organizations to participate in, the opportunities are endless.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused on what your priorities are because they can easily be distorted by the distractions of the campus life.
Academic Rigor The rigor is fairly equal for the most part.
Dorm Life You are randomly given a roommate and have to go through a lot of paperwork to change.
Food and Dining The food was delightful all over campus. The dining halls gave a variety of foods. My taste buds were always tantalized.
What to do for fun I was extremely active on campus so I stepped on a freshman step team, sang in the University's top chorus, University Singers, sang in the gospel choir and also went to parties of course.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I found the GSU campus to be a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. I initially thought an urban school would be dangerous or scary but GSU is a nice surprise and offers more intern or professional opportunities than a rural school could.
Tips for prospective students Visit the campus early in your investigation and consider all aspects of college even the job opportunities outside of the campus.
Academic Rigor GSU has a highly respected teaching staff and I look forward to the challenges of college life.
Dorm Life I plan to live in the Freshman Hall my first year as I want to feel that I'm not the only newbie on campus. I think meeting other freshmen will allow me to develop long lasting friendships.
Food and Dining The meal plan and dining flexibility should work well with a full academic load. I like the fact that I can also eat at fast food places when I'm in a hurry.
Bang for the buck Tuition is similar to other schools in Georgia such as UGA but I want to be exposed to the real world, not some protected country club.
Campus Safety Given that GSU is in the heart of downtown Atlanta, they've taken many precautions to protect the students by offering free walks home from the library and similar places.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This is an amazing school! I love being in Atlanta and the teachers are all incredible. I also love all of the different cultures and people you get to meet.
Tips for prospective students The area can be somewhat dangerous. Hang onto your belongings and be aware of your surroundings.
Academic Rigor As much as would be expected of college courses I suppose. The teachers are amazing and will do everything they can to help you. There are also a myriad of resources at your disposal to help you.
Dorm Life I do not live in the dorms, I commute. However, the dorms are just like really nice apartments and I couldn't imagine living in Downtown Atlanta being a bad thing!
Food and Dining Great food everywhere. Tons of places to eat with all sorts of different cuisines.
What to do for fun It's Atlanta! Just walk around and you'll find something to do!
Bang for the buck Despite recent tuition and fee hikes, the overall costs remains affordable.
Great for these types of students EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
Campus Safety GSU has their own police department as well as Atlanta PD and Fulton County PD all over the place. Police presence is high so there is a good feeling of security. There are many services offered to students to ensure their protection and to help them feel safe while attending GSU.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences GSU is absolutely diverse. It is a great way to network. It is a wonderful place to experience new things and gain a great education.
Tips for prospective students Study and focus hard. Make sure that you are using all of your resources.
Academic Rigor Make sure you are up for hard work and long nights.
Dorm Life It is great, but make sure you meet the right people, If you have a terrible roommate then you will have friends to help you.
Food and Dining Food is always great in the morning, but later on in the year they begin to slack off. Overall the food is pretty decent and very healthy good tasty. If you don't want to eat in the dining hall there are PLENTY of restaurants near by.
What to do for fun You can take a walk around the city, tours, or go to centennial park. GSU always has an event going on whether its a guest speaker, a panther prowl(gsu party), a probate, or something else, but Atlanta always has parties going on so they wont be hard to find.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State is a wonderful university with a very diverse student body. Located in the heart of Atlanta, it gives you a great opportunity to venture out and explore.
Tips for prospective students Very good on keeping students informed, especially incoming freshman, like me!
Academic Rigor It's a very popular research based school, nevertheless, many other majors are offered that don't exactly deal with research.
Dorm Life There are several dormitories which students can choose from. The various dorms also offer different amounts of students per room.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State is a wonderful school. Not only does it have rigorous academic programs, but it also provides many opportunities for personal success. Georgia State's commitment to diversity and location in the city of Atlanta are two things that provide a wonderful education and make a degree from the school very marketable.
Tips for prospective students Don't try to do everything. Pick a few organizations and activities that you are interested and devote time and energy to them. You will get more out of your college experience here by doing that.
Academic Rigor The programs can definitely be tough, especially if you are in some of the top rated ones like business and nursing. However it is completely manageable if you get help from professors and manage your time.
Dorm Life I loved my dorm experience here. I lived one semester in the Commons, where I had my own bedroom but shared a kitchen and bathroom. Dorms don't get much better than that. I also lived for three semesters in the greek housing. It was a wonderful experience for me to live with women that I loved hanging out with.
Food and Dining The on campus dining options are somewhat slim, but they are getting better and expanding. However, since you are in the middle of down town Atlanta the off campus dining is just right around the corner. You can find pretty much anything you are interested in eating.
What to do for fun Campus organizations are awesome. Greek life is amazing, and I would highly recommend it.
Greek Life Greek Life is an amazing experience here, although it is somewhat different from greek life at a very traditional school. It is a bit smaller, with most chapters having less than 60 members. Greek presence and greek traditions are getting stronger with the implementation of greek housing. Definitely provides a close knit experience on a large campus in a big city.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia state is the place to go when you're looking for a great education. It is a diverse school full of interesting people and fun things to do, on or off campus. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
Academic Rigor Many professors at Georgia State ask very little of their students. Professors at Georgia State are engaging and can keep you interested most of the time. They are willing to help you if you aren't doing so well in a class if you prove to them that you're actually going to try (go to class because skipping class is a waste of money and it will actually help you).
Dorm Life There is limited on-campus living, but the dorms are nice. When living in the dorms you are kept under a watchful eye and they are very strict with who they're letting come into the dorms. If you lose your ID or room key, you're not getting into your room.
Food and Dining The campus dining halls are great, but don't always have what you want. Other than on-campus dining halls, there are loads of restaurants around that give you discounts if you are a GSU student.
What to do for fun You're in one of the most fantastic cities in America! There's loads you can do.

Campus Safety Georgia State has its own police department on campus. I feel very safe when walking around campus at night, but if you don't you can call them and they will pick you up and drive you wherever you need to go on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This university offers many oppurtunties for students ranging from work studies to a wide array of degree choices. Although it is still largely considered a commuter school, there are strides being made to change this. The school is very large and is in an area where homelessness is common, which is kind of scary.
Tips for prospective students Try to be involved in various campus activities, whether it be academic, athletic, or cultural, because in such a large school it is easy to feel overwhelm and alone.
Academic Rigor The classes with more students are obviously an adjustment from high school, especially for me who took AP courses and had only 20 students in my class. Try to stay on top of the coursework because procrastination will catch up to you in the end.
Dorm Life Dorming at GSU has it's benefits and drawbacks. Since it is still a commuter school, it does not have the traditional campus or dorming experience, but nevertheless it helps to live on campus for both making new friends and getting to class on time. Also, the dorms are apartment style so they are really nice!
Food and Dining I rely on my own cooking since I have an apartment style dorm, which basically means I am starving most of the time. ;)
What to do for fun The drawback to this school is that a car is necessary to go anywhere, unless you use public transportation. There are fun things to do such as Atlantic Station, Lenox mall, and other big universities nearby, but transportation is key.
Campus Safety The campus is located in the middle of homelessness, so walking alone, especially at night is not recommended. There is police presence and if necessary they will escort you home.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The school offers a wide variety of major options. The Education programs are great and you can be certified by the time you graduate. College is always expensive but based on research Georgia State has some of the lowest fees.
Tips for prospective students Living off campus is usually cheaper than living on Campus. Know where you are going, get a map. Beware the homeless people.
Academic Rigor Major courses are harder but up until that point everything is relatively easy. I've taken some really hard classes but others have felt like simple high school courses.
Dorm Life Sorry I don't know as much about this I've never lived on campus but I've heard its actually nice. The commons have free laundry rooms and they have pretty decent security.
Food and Dining There are a lot of restaurants in the 5 points area where State is located. There are also places like the Panther Din that have pretty good food.
What to do for fun State is actually pretty good about offering activities. There have been talent shows, open mic nights, and there is usually a speaker that comes to the school at least once a month. There is also a rock climbing wall and a lot to to at the Rec Center. Besides that Atlanta itself has a lot to offer.
Bang for the buck Overall, I really enjoy the school. I get enough aid for it to be relatively affordable. The only problem is the location. Smack in the middle of downtown Atlanta. It can be a little sketchy but they compensate with a pretty heavy level of security.
Great for these types of students The Education program is amazing. From what I hear the sports medicine program is really nice too.
Campus Safety Security is so/so. The school tries really hard to combat what comes with being in down town Atlanta (homeless people). I really think that they do the best that they can but there is only so much you can do. They are trying to implement an emergency alert system (loud speakers, texting you if something happens, etc)

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i have toured this school, and it seems like a perfect fit for people like me. if you are open-minded, fun-loving, and enjoy being in the city, then it will be a place that you will love to call home. this is especially a place that you should consider if you plan to major in business, as i do.
Tips for prospective students no matter what college you choose, the experience is what you make it. if you get involved, and strive to meet new people and make those lifelong connections, then your experience at any school, not just gsu, will be one that you will cherish for the rest of your life.
Academic Rigor for those looking into business, look no further. gsu has some of the nation's top business programs. if you aren't interested in business, however, there are many other majors to choose from that gsu does a good job at offering.
Dorm Life the dorms at gsu are some of the best dorms that i have seen. they are practically all apartment style, with each bedroom being a single. there is, however, a traditional housing facility for those interested in regular college dorms (or less expensive dorms) where you share a room with one other person, and a bathroom with three to four people. the downsides are that the price of housing is steep and it would be nice for more people to stay on campus, but housing in downtown atlanta, it can't really be beat.
Food and Dining i tried the food here and the food is great! expect far better than anything from your high school cafeteria. plus it is all you care to eat, so grab what you want, when you want. and when you get bored with campus dining, you are in the heart of atlanta, with a multitude of restaurants to choose from, just be ready to pay.
What to do for fun get involved in anything. we also have the aquarium, world of coke, atlanta zoo, fox theater, georgia dome, and the phillip's arena. concerts are always coming to town with some of the greatest artists and bands. there is never a boring day in atlanta.
Bang for the buck the cost of tuition is really affordable (in-state) and if you qualify for hope, then there isn't much to pay for in terms of tuition, and if you become an ra, then room, board and meals are paid for you. if you are out of state, it may not be as affordable, but try to negotiate to see if they can offer you in-state tuition. i know of a couple of people who were able to pull it off, but they had pretty good grades.
Great for these types of students anyone interested in business
anyone who loves atlanta or wants to be in the city
anyone looking for an affordable educationGreek Life greek life is practically no existent for those not involved in it. however, there is greek life available for those interested in it.
Campus Safety campus is pretty safe. just use common sense like don't go out late at night by yourself, don't take dark alleys for shortcuts, and don't leave your stuff where someone could easily take it. i've never of anyone feeling unsafe here.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences when dealing with the university to get things set up to attend as a prospective student things were made very difficult for no apparent reason. all the administrative staff with the exception of the one stop shop were very unhelpful. i like this school but i don't agree with how it is run and some rules and procedures that seem to just put added stress on students for no reason.
Tips for prospective students prospective student must check their email and paws account as much as possible. always do everything (especially financial aid) well in advance as there are many pointless steps (things already included on the online version that was previously filled out) other universities don't require that will prevent your money from getting to you in a timely manner.
Academic Rigor you have to want it and in many cases you must supplement class lectures and readings with your own research online even if the teacher doesn't tell you this. at times depending on major it can be overwhelming.
Dorm Life i got very lucky this semester and got an amazing ra. this is my first semester with an ra that actively got involved even though my first semester i lived right next door my ra never even said hi (even once a week). the dorms were i live now are built like a prison ,but were still the best option for me as i don't want to live in the same room as another student. there definitely needs to be more studio dorm rooms, and family housing needs to be off campus not in the dorms along with everyone else.
Food and Dining i don't have a meal plan this semester as my dorm room has a full kitchen but my first semester here i did. the food is good and there are some healthier options. i highly recommend that a new student go to freshman hall to eat as they have the best choices. i haven't seen piedmont north's dinning since it was redone so that may not be the case anymore.
What to do for fun get involved there are plenty of clubs and great things to do at the gym i practically live there.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus make sure you find the starbucks coffee located in kell hall it's sort of a secret location for quick fast food and a caffeine fix.
Great for these types of students this school is better for the non-traditional student.
Clubs and Activities there are a lot of clubs and events put on all throughout campus.
Greek Life i'm not involved so i'm not sure.
Campus Safety campus safety is not ideal there are a lot of reports of theft of cellphones, other electronics, and i routinely see bikes that have parts that have been stolen. campus is located in the heart of the city so it's not just students walking around. i've only been on campus over a year and already heard of stabbings and people getting shot. i suggest calling security to get anywhere when it gets dark, better to be safe and not sorry.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences georgia state is the perfect city college. living in the heart of atlanta and, getting an education amidst people from every kind of background imaginable is fascinating and exciting.
Tips for prospective students find a club, team or on-campus organization to join as soon as you can. this is where you will make friends, learn new things, and gain real world experience.
Academic Rigor the professor are just as diverse as the student body but the one thing they all have in common is they are interesting and relatable.
Dorm Life the dorms are way nicer than a lot of other college housing i have seen. it's a good experience to live closely with strangers like that but i opted for a cheaper, nicer apartment my second year. the down side fo dorms is expense.
Food and Dining the dining hall is expensive but worth it if you live near in or near the dorms. they have great food. also if you do not have a meal plan there are variety of privately owned restaurants on broad street. i recommend the yummy korean food at blossom tree or a massive sandwich from reuben's.
What to do for fun go to events held by the school and around the city! the student events are sometimes lame but if you bring a group of good friends it can be awesome. take advantage of the rec. center. rock climbing is so fun and some of the free classes are really good. finally, go explore the city. there are tons of great theaters, concert venues, and parks!
Bang for the buck my only real expensive thing for college is paying for my apartment. it is cheaper than dorms but it is still pricey living on in an apartment really close to campus. i don't have a car so i walk or bike everywhere which is a great option for a lot of people. my biggest piece of advice about money is if you have scholarships, do not be a dummy and loose them.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the movie theater is pretty cool and not a lot of people use it. cinafest is in the student center and all students can go see movies for free.
Clubs and Activities there are so many clubs and activities at georgia state and the more you join, the more friends you will have, the better your college experience will be, and the smaller georgia state will seem. also they look good on resumes.
Campus Safety everyone is always worried about safety in atlanta. they are afraid of getting mugged. all i have to say is all of the muggings from the past semester were all snatchings. meaning a person walked up, grabbed another person's phone and ran away. the moral is put your expensive phone in your pocket and do not walk around alone at night. do these things and you should be fine. i bike around at night all the time and i have never had any problems. also most homeless people are really nice so you do not have to be afraid of them.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences georgia state is a good school. classes are challenging however if you do your work, you should be fine. the school is becoming better each year and will soon be a prestigious university.
Tips for prospective students this school is the 3rd best public school in georgia. the social life is great and often underestimated by prospective students. don't underestimate gsu.
Academic Rigor i'd give the rigor of gsu a 3.5/5. much of the rigor depends on your teachers and classes you're taking. you will fail miserably if you dont study, and you will get an a in every class if you do.
Dorm Life dorm life at gsu is good. the quality of dorms is amazing, however it can also be a social hinder. since many rooms are apartment style, many people spend their time in the dorms as opposed to socializing.
Food and Dining just made a new dining hall. pretty good food.
What to do for fun there is greek life which is great. many bars nearby. sports. many parks nearby. many different venues for music and a cultured lifestyle. there's something for everyone.
Bang for the buck the school is often underestimated.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus greek parties are often off campus and more homestyle.
Great for these types of students if you like the whole dubstep wave, atlanta is where you want to be.
Clubs and Activities plethora of clubs from social to academic.
Greek Life booming. currently in it. wouldn't change that decision for anything in the world.
Campus Safety there's a police officer everywhere you look. however, these police are keeping students safe from crime, not trying to get students in trouble for drinking.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences georgia state university is a great college to attend if you love the city-life and meeting alot of new and diverse people. it offers countless internship, job, and organization opportunities. due to it's location, you'll never know who you might run into here.
Tips for prospective students if you are considering attending georgia state, make sure you don't mind urban living. you have to remember that since it's located in the heart of downtown atlanta, everyone you might see walking the streets on your way to class is not a student of georgia state.
Academic Rigor some courses are harder than others, but all my professors have been especially helpful in making sure you perform to the best of your abilities. they have office hours, some have study sessions, and are pretty good with contact through email.
Dorm Life dorm life is great! it is true, georgia state is a party school. however ga state offers countless on campus activities, community service, leadership opportunities, and conferences for students. i stay in freshman hall and i love it. everyone is a freshman, so everyone is trying to meet new people and you're sure to make life-long friends the first week. plus there's a dining hall downstairs, you can't beat that!
Food and Dining georgia state university has to dining halls. one is located in freshman hall and the other at piedmont north. if you decide to stay in the commons you'll be right in between the two. also if you choose to stay in the lofts you will be next to the freshman dining hall. the dining halls are amazing it's like an all you can eat buffet and you can go in it how ever many times you choose.
What to do for fun what is there not to do in the heart of downtown atlanta? you meet students from ga tech, spellman, and morehouse. (you'll probably end up partying with them.) georgia state has shuttles that take you to different clubs and parties, people throw kickbacks, and every so often georgia state throws parties and block parties.
Bang for the buck georgia state really is a great university to find yourself and network with diverse and different people and cultures.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i think it's unusual that a classroom is building is located close to underground atlanta. also it's tradition that every upcoming freshman rub the panther's nose located just outside of the student center. it's nose has been rubbed so much that it's a different color from the rest of the panther.
Great for these types of students georgia state is great for highly motivated students who plan on becoming somebody and putting their degree to good use.
Clubs and Activities georgia state has a website called org sync that lists all of the clubs and organizations that georgia state has to offer. at some point, all of these groups hold interest sessions and they help you to develop your leadership skills, regardless of the club you join.
Greek Life like any other college, the greeks get that special attention and are usually well-known around campus. although the greek housing is not traditional it still incorporates the same values and leadership associated with greek life.
Campus Safety georgia state is on point with campus safety. we have a number of emergency call boxes set-up throughout campus as well as our own police station located right inside of a housing unit. (the commons) we also have a 24 hour police escort service and a large availability of police officers. however, you should still be very careful on the streets, and try to travel in groups at night.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences georgia state university is diverse because there are many types of students here. it is welcoming because the staff and faculty does whatever they can to make you feel at home. last but not least, georgia state is my definition of a family. you meet so many people here and you feel like you've known them forever.
Tips for prospective students one tip i would say is get yourself together and work hard all the way through. you don't want to make a mistake that could mess up your entire college experience. the most important reason why you've come to college is to learn and you're paying your money to do that.
Academic Rigor the professors here are top of notch. in every class i've taken there has been something i can take from it. it won't be easy like high school because there is some studying you have to do. but if you do the hard work it will all pay off in the end.
Dorm Life i haven't had a problem with the dorm life here. luckily for me the roommates that i have have become my closet friends. we know how to respect one another. the only thing that is kind of sucks is how strict it is to bring company inside. once you sign them in, it doesn't really matter anyway.
Food and Dining the food on campus is great. there is so many different types of cuisine available. whatever you feel like having the university mostly has it. the best thing is that the food is not in one location. it's spread all over the place.
What to do for fun there are many things to do. one thing to do is party like every other college student does. we have many events that happen around town and it's within distance. another thing is the events that are hosted by the school. they actually turn out to be pretty fun. if you want to get away and do something you can do that to the city of atlanta is filled with lots to keep you occupied.
Bang for the buck georgia state does offer many services and tries to appeal to the average student. even though some of the school fees are a little suspicious, the school is definitely worth every dime you spend.
Clubs and Activities anything that you're interested in there is definitely a club for that. they offer so many activities that you'll have to decide which one to do. if there is not a club that you're interested you have the option of starting one up yourself.
Campus Safety there have been a few robberies on campus but i don't see how. the police force on campus is really high in concentration all over the place. we have our police to protect the students of georgia state.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Georgia State University is the epitome of the city that it is located in; lively and diverse. My school is everything I could ask for and more. The learning environment is caters to your needs and everyone you encounter is unforgettable.
Tips for prospective students Do not be afraid to ask questions. There are tons of people, from faculty and staff to students that would not mind helping you. GSU is big in territory but becomes quite small once you get to know people.
Academic Rigor Like any secondary school there is always a challenge. Studying is mandatory if you expect to pass the grade. The professors are reasonable and will work with you but you must show effort.
Dorm Life GSU offers several different styles of residency. I personally preferred the apartment-style. Which allows you to have your own room but you share the common spaces (such as kitchen,living/dining, and bathroom). Living on campus is awesome, fun, and very convenient.
Food and Dining From the dining hall to the food services that are offered on campus, the food is delicious and semi-affordable.
What to do for fun There is always something to do at State. From events offered on campus to other functions going around it, there is always something!

Am enjoying being here Campus life is fun! There are many activities to be involved in and literally thousands of people to meet.
Bang for the buck Georgia State University is not as expensive as many other schools, but the school does provide quality resources for the students.
Tips for prospective students Stay on top of your financial aid! Make sure your financial aid is taken care of each semester way ahead of time. Be proactive, because that is one area where Georgia State is lacking.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This is a great environment to learn. Students at Georgia State practically live in the libraries. They study hard to get the good grades needed to go further. The teachers even try their best to offer out of class hours. When you ask questions the teacher after class hours they give in depth answers.
Am enjoying being here Very good place to have fun. Its location is in the middle of the city, so there is always something to do. Plus, there is much to do on campus. Georgia State always plans events throughout each week including things like Panther Prowls or step shows.
Bang for the buck You get what you pay for. For the tuition cost you are allowed to attend all events on campus. When you pay for housing you get special offers to join in special housing only events. Students can pay for meal plans which gives you all day access to the dining hall in your residential area. Then to work off the food there is the Georgia State Recreational center. There they offer a variety of ways to stay fit or in shape. Another thing offered is discounts to things such as, movies, trips, or public transportation.
Tips for prospective students A big tip for prospective students is that you want to have everything done three months ahead of entering the school. Things like having the money already set, immunizations already taken care of, what hours and days you would like to be in class. Another tip is to find out when you can register for classes. When you are registering you have four things to look for. Those things are: the hours for the class, the days for the class, how many books needed for the class, and the teachers ratings. Another important tip is that you want to have your mind set that you are going to study and handle business before you have fun.
Great for these types of students There is no one set type of student that should attend Georgia State University. Most if not all majors are offered at GSU. The school is more so built upon your personal characteristics rather than your major. Students that are ready to study and be ready for their future should definitely attend Georgia State. It is also more in favor of strong minded students. If a student believes they will not cave in under pressure they should attend. This school is also good for students who wish to study abroad.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teacher's seem very knowledgeable and I have learned a lot from almost every class I have taken so far. There are also a wide variety of classes available, especially as far as languages go. The only suggestion I have is watch out for Grad student teachers, I haven't met one that I like yet.
Am enjoying being here I really enjoy the downtown atmosphere and the large campus. I commute so it is a bit of a trip for me to get down there, but overall I really enjoy it. You do need to be mindful of your surroundings though when walking out on the streets because there are robberies that happen pretty frequently (especially cell phone snatching) to people who are not paying attention.
Bang for the buck Recently, GSU raised the cost of al of their student fees. I pay about $1500 per semester just in student fees and I think that is pretty ridiculous. It still cost less than a lot of universities, but the student fees are so bad.
Tips for prospective students Ride Marta if you can and avoid grad student teachers if possible.
Great for these types of students If you don't live downtown RIDE MARTA if at all possible. It will get you out of paying for parking and get you in and out of the perimeter without having to fight traffic.

Bang for the buck Personally, I did not have to pay a lot for tuition because I am a commuter.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot To bs honest Georgia state's education is not lower then any other college. It has dedicated teachers who love ro teach and actually know what they are talking About. The only bad thin is, there are some classes that feel like high school, and the teachers give you work as If you were in high school
Am enjoying being here It is an open campus, and if you enjoy that then this is for you. If you want a sense of community and a closed campus then this is not for you
Bang for the buck It is very cheap, and the education is great. I love that they don't charge you so much!
Tips for prospective students Try to attend all your classes, and since you are paying for it, try to do your best!
Great for these types of students Who want to transfer to other schools
Students who like open campus

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors and doctors here are all very knowledgeable and passionate about their fields if not passionate about teaching in general. I've certainly had a great experience with several helpful, efficient, expert professors.
Am enjoying being here The campus is spread out over several blocks of downtown Atlanta, close to the 75/85 bridge overpasses which houses a huge homeless population. On top of the pervasive smell of unwashed, starving bodies the crime rate is daunting. Several times a month theft notices are sent out via the campus alert system with some weeks being worse than othes. GSU is not the safest place to be by any means. Besides that, thousands of students attend and all of the paperwork goes through a few small offices - critical errors happen with alarming frequency. Personally, I've had awful repeated experiences with their one stop shop office. On the other hand, several MARTA stations are near to campus so traveling to more interesting places is easy and affordable.
Bang for the buck This school is super expensive but if one can overcome the cost, most of the professors are more than worth learning from.
Tips for prospective students Don't go here if you can avoid doing so. There are schools with professors just as qualified that will not bleed your wallet dry and misfile or lose your paperwork.
On the other hand, if you do attend GSU talk to your professors after class even if it's only to point out what you thought was interesting about class that day, attend INCEPT, take all available placement exams online, and map out your necessary courses with an adviser long before your registration date comes.Great for these types of students If you or your family has lots of spare cash, enjoy city life have and the ability to live off-campus in a secure apartment I recommend this school. I also recommend this locale for students seeking a four year degree on a campus with numerous clubs, activist opportunities, activity groups, and a fantastic gym.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are pretty good. Some are students themselves getting their masters or PhD. The class sizes vary on what your preference is. There are some large classes with over 100 students and smaller classes where there are only 20-30 students. I believe no matter the major you choose, you can relate it to the city or use the city as a reference.
Am enjoying being here The location of Georgia State is like no other. It's right in the middle of Atlanta and ,when not in class or studying, there's always something to do or something going on. Not only do you get the feel of how college is but you get to experience the city life all at the same time. Not only is the location great but the people here are from all around the world. Georgia State is one of the most diverse colleges and you can meet almost someone from every part of the world. You not only get to experience the Atlanta culture but you also get to experience a bit of other cultures from around the world.
Bang for the buck There are various services here that meet your every need, activities and events that go on every week just for State students.
Tips for prospective students Try coming to the campus before school starts to get a feel of the campus and to see where your classes are located. A major tip is to visit your advisers at least three times a semester. At the beginning for advice on classes, in the middle to talk with your advisers about where you stand in your classes and at the end to talk about the next semester and what to expect. Lastly, get involved on campus. It's good to have extra activities and its a great way to meet new people.
Great for these types of students Georgia state is great for anyone. There are all different types of people here. If you love the city then this is the school for you!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot GSU has some great professors that usually have a lot of knowledge and personal experience in their field. I feel like I have learned a lot, and I like that there seem to be similar themes across a variety of classes.
Am enjoying being here Georgia State University provides a really fun campus that makes the most of it's urban surroundings. Many classes and groups plan activities in Atlanta to enhance your experience in the city. I love Atlanta and the location of the school is a huge plus for me. There are tons of students at the school, and I like the interaction I can have with a large variety of students, from Georgia and around the world.
Bang for the buck I think GSU offers a great education at a comparatively low price.
Tips for prospective students Get connected with your professors - they are the best tool to help you make good grades. Obtain or keep the HOPE scholarship if you are eligible, because this pays the majority of your tuition at GSU.
Great for these types of students Students that like an urban enviroment, enjoy meeting new people, those on a budget, and those that haven't decided on a major - there are tons to choose from if you change your mind.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot A lot of professors seem to want you to learn their material and they know their stuff. If you fall behind, most of the teachers have office hours where you can go if you have any concerns or you if you need one-on-one help.
Am enjoying being here State definitely has a lot of diversity. Because the campus is smaller, you can get around to classes easier, making it more efficient. There's a club or group for everyone for every interest/hobby you may have. You can actually see the State Capitol from school, so it's nice to remember you're in the heart of Atlanta. Even if you're not involved in school, there's a lot of other things to do outside of school (shop at Lenox, visit GA Tech/Emory, eat at restaurants, etc).
Bang for the buck It's definitely cheaper than other colleges. You can rent textbooks, buy used, or sell back old textbooks that you don't want. We're all broke college students, but I still manage to not go hungry or run out of supplies.
Tips for prospective students - Go to Incept (orientation)
- Register for your math and chem placement test before you go to incept so you can take the classes you want
- Apply for Hope and other loans around January (that's when most money comes out)
- Look for scholarships (they help a lot)
- If you need a job, campus jobs are great to have
- Go to ratemyprofessors when registering for classes
- Join a club or go greek! Be involved at your school!Great for these types of students - Nursing and Business majors

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of my professors have a real passion for what they are teaching us! They don't waste a second of class time and are committed to our academic success and overall learning experience!
Am enjoying being here The campus is perfect! I love being in the city and here you get the excitement of the urban environment, but also won't be completely lost getting to classes!
Bang for the buck I spent last semester at a private school and I feel as if I am getting a better education here than at that other pricey school. The food here is great, the library is huge, and you get so many other perks around town for being a student!
Tips for prospective students Go to the social events on campus. You get to meet so many different people from all different backgrounds! Also, if they aren't free, they will cost you only about five dollars. It's worth it!
Great for these types of students Great for people who want passionate and experienced professors, the thrill of living in the city, desire to meet all sorts of people, and are looking for an overall great college experience!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors I've had are amazing. They've all been super passionate and excited about the subjects they're teaching. There are also tons of opportunities for study groups, as well as extra help from the professors whether its through e-mail or face-to-face meetings. Many classes also have SIs, which are Supplemental Instructors. Basically, they are students (who have already taken the course and have done extremely well in them) that host study sessions and supply students with extra study materials. The class sizes are also great. Many of the classes are small, with 20 to 30 students, allowing a lot of individual student to teacher interactions.
Am enjoying being here It's an amazing environment, in the heart of downtown atlanta. There is always something going on around campus. It is never a dull moment around GSU. There's so much to see and so much to do whenever you're not in class or busy studying.
Bang for the buck Georgia State has an amazing recreational center which is definitely worth the fee if you take advantage of it. ALL the sporting events are FREE for all students! Shuttle buses are FREE! There is available parking for FREE at turner field! Tons of activities, year round, for FREE! Watch movies for FREE at our theater!
Tips for prospective students Enjoy the environment. Take advantage of all the activities and services around campus.
Great for these types of students People who love the city. People who benefit from smaller classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I absolutely enjoy the challenging courses I am taking at Georgia State! GSU is one of the best institutions in Georgia! The professors prepare us with real-world applications throughout their curriculum.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy living in the urban environment. GSU is not the typical college campus because of its location in downtown Atlanta.
Bang for the buck The only thing that is quite expensive is the on campus housing but besides that everything else is great!
Tips for prospective students When I was a prospective student, I took a college tour one day and was filling out my application the next day! By taking a college tour I new GSU was definitely the school for me! Have an idea of what you want to major in because GSU has a lot to offer!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Georgia State University is a school very strong in academics. The curriculum is not near impossible to excel in but it also requires students to put in extra studying time. The classes force students to think on their own and outside of the box. What is most appreciated about classes is that they are taught by actual professors who truly want you to learn the information being taught. Also, the information is taught so that students will remember the information long term and not just for purposes of passing the next test.
Am enjoying being here The social life here at The Georgia State University is like none other. There are always extracurricular activities to get involved in after studying. Activities range anywhere from swimming with friends in the Olympic style pool to enjoying video games on the Wii console located in the game center. Even the students that do not enjoy sports, there are always on informative and helpful campus events to attend. There is always something to get involved in during free time at The Georgia State University.
Bang for the buck The Georgia State University provides students with a bang for their buck. The strong curriculum assures parents that loans, grants, scholarships and a lot of time are not going to waste. The various state of the art facilities and up to date technology provides students with ample opportunities to stay active.
Tips for prospective students Advice for prospective students would be to do their homework. College is where you spend the next four years of your life; make sure it is somewhere that can provide the experience of a lifetime. College is where we discover who we are and what we want to do for the rest of our lives.
Great for these types of students Students who love a challenge in the classroom should attend The Georgia State University. Students who enjoy a diverse college environment should be applying to The Georgia State University. Those who take pride in going to bed at three in the morning but waking up at seven should be trying to attend The Georgia State University.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are typically very informed on their subjects and are good at getting the concepts across. There are also more truly interesting and engaging professors than most schools in the area.
Am enjoying being here It is a large school with a comparatively small population of students housed on campus. There is also a greater than average number of older students, but I don't feel like that inhibits the learning process at all. The university, as a whole, is very bad about giving out information or even making information easy to find. All of these things do hurt the social options unless some amount of effort is put forth even though the students and staff are amicable.
Bang for the buck It is a very good school for financial aid and it is one of the least expensive research universities in the area. Between university grants, assistantships, scholarships, and the HOPE scholarship, all but $1000 of my tuition, housing, and supply costs are covered.
Tips for prospective students Contact your professors regularly about grades, class requirements, advice, and even upcoming events. Don't buy your books without emailing or otherwise contacting the professors for an updated list and check all 3 book stores (not just the main one featured on the website) and online sources for the lowest price. For Calculus I & II, I recommend Dr. Valerie Miller. The book is online with the code, so the physical text is not necessary, but bookrenter.com has the lowest rental price for a semester.
Great for these types of students Research sciences, Law, Nursing, Music

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Georgia State is one of the more diverse colleges that Georgia has to offer. The professors there are very helpful and interact with their students. The campus life is anything but the ordinary- each student has his or her own style that adds to the unique factor of GSU.
Am enjoying being here If you enjoy being in the city, then GSU is the place to be. You never experience the same routine. Everything is different and fun on a day to day basis and I would not change it for the world.
Bang for the buck Considering that the campus is in the metro area, tuition is a bit higher than other public colleges, However, you get out of the experience what you put in to it.
Tips for prospective students If GSU is your choice, definitely get involved on campus. GSU has so many academic and extracurricular activities to get involved in that are great for networking, making friends, and student growth.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot GSU offers many classes that will allow you to learn a lot in any field of study. Personally it also allows me to major in the two areas I excel at Computers and Math. I am looking forward to learn as much as I can in both areas.
Will enjoy being here GSU has a lot to offer, with a campus in the midst of the Atlanta it has a great environment.
Bang for the buck GSU is one of the leading research schools in the country. Since paying for my education is not easy, GSU provides not only and education, but opportunity for workplace experience as well.
Great for these types of students Being from a small, but growing community college, GSU was the perfect place for me to transfer. From what I have seen it is sure not to disappoint.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the teachers I've had so far are really friendly. Some are harder than others, but some of them have taught me life lessons. They really give you the reality check you're searching for. Just make sure you hit a few teacher offices along they way no matter if you're doing good or bad.
Am enjoying being here I live in the Lofts and am very involved in housing. It is Atlanta, so if you want to do something, it's there. GSU has all the things you need to live and more as a student. It's an amazing environment.
Bang for the buck They have raised everything since I've started attending in Fall 2010, but you do get what you pay for. Although, you won't use it all. The fees here are huge, especially since we got a new football team last year. The housing is great for being right on campus in the middle of Atlanta, housing is always putting on events and such.
Tips for prospective students Please go to your teacher's offices. It's helped bail me out and understand my teacher better, especially in the large auditorium classes. They really encourage it. It is a half commuter school because only a small portion can actually dorm, but GSU is expanding.
Great for these types of students One's who want to experience diversity and independence in an urban environment. You won't meet one person that is the same.
