Attend Summer Experience before your freshman year, you'll earn credit hours, meet other freshman and learn your way around.
Be sure you go to class. Classes are small and you will be missed.

    Am enjoying being here

Absolutely Love It! There's always things to do here. The University has special performers come to us and they take us by HPU Charter Buses to things off campus, free of charge. We've gone to the Grand Prix go cart track, Dixie Classic Fair, Spooky Woods.

    Bang for the buck

HPU has the nicest campus. All the housing is either new or newly renovated. Laundry is free. We have the best meal plan options, Subway, Chic-Fil-A, The Pointe, the cafe. We have a Starbucks and a Bakery. We are allowed to have our vehicle and can park next to our dorm, even as freshman!

    Tips for prospective students

Come to an Open House or schedule a Campus Tour, no other university will out shine High Point University!

Great for these types of students

Everyone. HPU Financial Aid will help you, so don't let the Comprehensive fee scare you away!

The professors here not only care about your number scores but about your wellbeing as well. High Point University maintains it's holistic approach to education by making sure that a student does well in all areas of life.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is reminiscent of an upscale country club. Lush green lawns with bronze statues and numerous water fountains decorate the campus and wrap you in a luxurious state of being. The buildings have all been either remodeled or are brand new. University Center alone has three dining venues, a movie theater, a study center (which hands out milk and cookies after 9pm), and a convenience store.

    Bang for the buck

Students receive a great education while living on a comfortable and enjoyable campus. To have such accommodations on any other campus would cost students a fortune but here at High Point University, most costs are all inclusive in the tuition. We have a movie theater which is all free including one drink, one snack, and a nice serving of popcorn.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you come to visit the campus. It will blow you away with its beauty and luxury.

Great for these types of students

This university is great for students who want a small school setting with great accommodations.

All the professors at High Point University are willing to help you and want to see you succeed. In biology lab, my professor was eager to help us when we had trouble or to just reassure us that we were on the right track. In my other classes, the professors would read over our papers and give us their feedback before we turned them in for a grade so that we could make modifications in order to get a better grade.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the small class size and that the professors know me by name. As I pass professors around the campus they all smile and say hello. The campus is full of activities and amenities. For example, there is a free arcade in the University Center where you don’t need tokens or quarters to play the games… you just simply hit start. On campus, there is a movie theater where new releases and movies that are not even out on DVD yet are played for students to see with free concessions. One weekend, the school offered free haircuts, free massages, and a catered buffet. Another weekend, a free concert was held on the lawn. Tickets to the High Point Theater downtown are offered free to students. The list goes on and on…

    Bang for the buck

At High Point everything is top of the line. The campus offers so much for the students to be a part of and it’s just the special stuff that High Point does that makes it that much more spectacular. There are food kiosks situated on the promenade where students pick up free food on their way to class. The HPU ice cream truck makes regular trips around the campus offering free ice cream. Also, the university takes charter buses to sporting events and provides dinner which is also free to the student. There numerous options for eating that are all part of the dining plan including a bakery with a stone fireplace, a sports bar with flat screen TVs throughout, a “Tommy Bahama” style grille, and an upscale three-course-meal steakhouse. Every building is either brand new or newly remodeled.

    Tips for prospective students

You must visit the campus! You will be amazed from the moment you drive in as you are welcomed by your own personalized parking space which will be followed by flowing fountains, statues, and flags decorating the campus. You may want to come to an Open House where you will hear a presentation given by President Dr. Qubein. He is an amazing leader and visionary.

Great for these types of students

High Point attracts students from almost every state in the US and 75% of students are from out of state. Students that want a personal interaction with their professors, a close knit community and upscale living will love High Point University.

Every professor is always there for you when you need them before, during, and after your class. They are easy to talk to and become attached to you.

    Am enjoying being here

I am from MD so when I heard of HPU and it being in NC, at first I was slightly worried because it is so far away from my family, but at HPU you make a new huge family. There is so much to do here. For example, we have an Arcade, two general stores, the Extraordinaire Cinema, the 1924 Prime Steakhouse, the Great Day Bakery, The Point Grill, as well as Starbucks, Subway, and Chik-fil-A.

    Bang for the buck

HPU is a private university so there is no difference of tuition between whether you are an out-of-state student or in-state student. However, they work with you with financial aid. There is the work study program along with applying for scholarships and grants.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour of the campus, I'm sure when you see that High Point University gate you will automatically fall in love with this campus!

Great for these types of students

High Point, NC is known for interior design, so if that is the direction you are willing to take this school is right for you. Also, for communications and journalism fields, business and education.

There are a lot of General Education Requirements because this is a liberal arts college. However, all of the classes serve to be beneficial to creating a holistic education. Some of the unique classes that are required before graduation include: Dr. Qubein's President Seminar on Life Skills, an ethics class, religion, visual/performing arts, first year seminar, two different social sciences, pe, and a global studies course are a few examples. There are so many choices within each subject that make it fun and interesting to learn about everything. Even if you come in as an undecided major, you will quickly find that there's something for everyone at High Point University. The average class size is small and the university expects accountability so attendence will be taken. The professors are extremely helpful and so are the free tutors in the library.

    Am enjoying being here

My first year is coming to an end, and let's just say I'm less than excited for summer. Don't get me wrong, I love my family and home, but since being in college I've created a new family and new home for myself. There is always something to get involved in. The tagline couldn't be any more true. At High Point University every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. I can already tell these are going to be the best four years of my life, and to make matters better, I am for sure going to apply for the 5th year master's program for Elementary Education. Everywhere you look the energy and school spirit is so positive. There is no way you couldn't love it here.

    Bang for the buck

Oh my goodness, at a far glance High Point may have a high price tag. However, $35,400 for a private school is relatively a bargain especially for all of the fancy extras that HPU does provide for the students that you just can't find anywhere else. For example, that tuition includes meal plan and housing so there are no additional fees. Some luxeries that we have that you can't find anywhere else include free kiosks in the morning that pass out snacks and drinks if you didnt have time for breakfast, a free ice-cream truck (in the winter they pass out homemade cookies, rice-crispy treats, and hot chocolate), a free arcade, free tutoring, free ipad, kindle, gps bikes, and other sports equipment rentals, free movie theater with free popcorn, drink, and candy, free HPU t-shirts, water bottles, hats, and other gifts on special occasions, free carriage rides in winter, free spring and fall concerts, free laundry, free parking, free 3 course meal from the on campus steakhouse once a week, free admission to all of our division I athletic events, admission to all musical and theatrical performances on campus, free trips such as ziplining, ice-skaing, bowling, weekend camping trips, etc. The list goes on and on. You have to see what you're missing. In the end you can't put a price on the value of your education and college experience.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for the scholarships very early. You can't apply if you are transferring or after your freshman year. Scholarship deadline ends in December so you can deffinitely apply for them even if you haven't gotten accepted yet. Basically, HPU is looking for leaders with school spirit, determination, and good values. You have to be more than just an SAT score or GPA.

Great for these types of students

HPU is perfect for every student who thinks they deserve a top notch and quality educational institution to aid them in success. It's a small community with all of the resources of a big school.

High Point University has been amazing so far. The atmosphere, the faculty, the students and even President Nido Quebien himself has made sure that HPU is the ultimate college destination. The classes sizes are small so you do not have to feel intimadated to ask questions. There is so much to do here that you are never sitting in your dorm room. Dont wait, apply to HPU

There is always so much to do, you never have to be bored or sit in your dorm room

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive but you get the quality that you pay for. You have nice dorms, great faculty, and tremendous staff.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and get involved. If you know that you are going to be a double major or in a major that is difficult, apply to do summer experience. i recommend it to get ahead.

I am in the Interior Design program and only been at HPU for a year, my knowledge of design, and everything else, has increased tremendously. The education provided allows students to broaden their minds, whether it be a First Year Seminar or a Major requirement. The professors are very personable and social. They know me by my name, and they are able to point me out in a crowd walking around campus, and this makes me feel comfortable around campus and in the classroom.

    Am enjoying being here

Attending High Point is the best decision I have ever made. I am comfortable and I feel at home when I am on campus. The energetic and smiling faces makes me miss the campus when I am on breaks. High Point has become my new home. I came to the campus not knowing a single person, and I love the feeling of creating new relationships with my peers, professors, and even the President.

    Tips for prospective students

Come for a campus visit, and if possible, stay with a current student for a night or two. I hosted a couple of high school seniors and they said it definitely helped with their decisions and idea of what life on campus is really like. Don't hesitate to stop a current student when walking around campus, because we will answer any questions you may have, or if you want to chat, that is definitely great as well.

Great for these types of students

High Point is for those who are open to meeting new people and getting involved on campus. It is for students who are serious about their education and goals.

My classes so far have been challenging enough to keep me focused, but not extremely overwhelmed. All of my professors have been so willing to help and will go out of their way to help their students succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

I could not be happier at HPU. There is always something to do on campus. I hate going home for breaks because I know I will be bored. Also, if you are interested in Greek Life, it is a big part of campus, but if you aren't there are definitely other things to do and other groups to join.

    Bang for the buck

HPU is not a cheap school, but for what we get it is definitely worth it. The dorm rooms are gorgeous, especially the UC rooms, and all the buildings are well-furnished. We have a steakhouse on campus that is part of our meal plan. How many people can say that about their schools? Not many. If you aren't at the Steakhouse, there is a sports bar, a Panera-like bakery, a Grille and the Cafe (which features a made to order stir-fry and omlete station). Also, we have kiosks open Mon-Fri mornings that offer snacks and drinks to grab without charge when running to class.

    Tips for prospective students

HPU is a great school. We have a diverse population and alot to offer. I would keep in mind though that while Greek Life is not all we have, it is a major part of the school. If you are not at all interested in Greek Life and want nothing to do with it, this may not be the best fit for you.

Great for these types of students

-Someone who want a small school
    -Outgoing and very involved
-More towards the preppy-ish, well-dressed and clean cut side

The professors here are great! Whenever you're having difficulty with the subject or in a particular area you can see them after class or see them in their office. I've called many of my professors at times, when they aren't in their office or on campus and have told them that I don't understand something. Many of the professors are even comfortable meeting up with you for lunch to discuss your progress and difficulties.

    Am enjoying being here

I came here not knowing any one at all, now its hard to walk anywhere on campus without running into a plethora of friends. This school feels like family.

    Bang for the buck

There's so many things to enjoy around campus. Where else can you sign up for outdoor adventure trips (most times free), attend free sports games, enjoy dining at the many restaurants on campus and the 1924 Prime Steakhouse, hang out with friends at the arcade, enjoy a movie at the Extraordinary Theater, go the Campus Concierge with questions, have campus wide wireless internet, attend free plays and concerts, rent movies from the library (for free), have free laundry, free cable and more???

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the school. At first I thought this school couldn't be right for me but when I toured the school for myself I knew right away that HPU would be home for me.

Great for these types of students

All types! There's biology majors, business majors, education, sports, communications, theater, accounting, English, Modern Foreign Languages, and so many more. Whatever your major, minor, personality you'll always be in good company here.

High Point University has aimed to be a school that truly cares about each student. You are offered small class sizes (my largest class is 30 students) and individual help from teachers. While High Point University can offer a more challenging education, the university provides all of its students with the resources needed to help all succeed.

    Am enjoying being here

High Point University is truly an extraordinary campus, which is what it strives to be. Like any other college campus you will make new friends, but very few campuses will offer you friendships that come from all over the country, even the world. This university strives to make sure students are active on campus by providing numerous free events to their students - from horseback riding to haunted houses to concerts! Even without the free events, High Point University is simply an enjoyable campus to be one. You will personally get to know President Qubein at some point and make friends with the wonderful staff High Point University has.

    Bang for the buck

While High Point University is costly in price, you must think of your education as an investment. High Point University offers its students a great education and a variety of opportunities once you are finished with school. If you are going to splurge on your education - which you're most likely doing no matter where you go - you want to be certain what you're paying for is going to get you some place in the future, and High Point University ensures that for it's students.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit the campus if you are still not sure High Point University is right for you! The moment you walk on this campus you will already feel at home!

Great for these types of students

Everyone! High Point University attracts students from all over, so you are guaranteed to make a few friends, further your education, and enjoy the next few years as a college student!

I am learning tons of new things everyday. The President of our school teaches a class here on campus just for freshman and he teaches us how we can get anything we want and what we need to do to succeed in life. Every professor is availiable and there to help you when you need it. I know that i can always go and see or email my professors and they will help me with anything that i need. There are tons of people on campus that are always ready to help you when ever you need it.

    Am enjoying being here

There is something happening all the time. the Campus Activities Team is something everyone should get involved in because you get to help plan what HPU is going to do through out the school year.

    Bang for the buck

You really do get your money's worth. It is expensive but there is so much to do and it really is worth the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Imagine yourself walking around campus and seeing it as your new home. If you cant imagine that then it is not right for you. Also find an environment were everyone is friendly and welcoming and always there to help you and HPU is that kind of environment.

Great for these types of students

HPU is great for everyone and helps you experience and try new things that you probably would not have wanted to try before.

The teachers are great, and class size is small, so a teacher knows your name.

    Am enjoying being here

There are always fun things to do. Free arcade with Xbox, PS3, Wii, NASCAR, etc. The trips we take are also included in the price, so anything that you need money for is maybe food or a souvenir.

    Bang for the buck

Trips are included, get 19 meals a week, with 7 magic meals that gives you a free meal at many locations on campus, like Starbucks, on-site stores, Steakhouse.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a great college to go to. To help with the transition, I recommend all freshmen to go to Summer Experience so you can meet some new friends and get to know the campus a bit better, plus a few free credits to get you ahead of the game.

I am disappointed in the classes I am taking. Only a few of my classes are actually of value.

    Am enjoying being here

Unfortunately, I applied solely for the amenities and the appearance of the college - I didn't really think about the people that might be attending. This college may be for you, but it wasn't for me.
Unfortunately, I'm transferring back to my home state the second semester of my freshman year.

    Bang for the buck

You get a lot of amenities, but that's it.

    Tips for prospective students

Learn WHO attends the college and try to find friends before you attend. It all helps in the end.
Join the Facebook page when you are accepted. It helps you meet new people, get your questions asked, and become a part of the community even before you enter the campus the first time as an official student. Also, attend the Early Registration event. You will be the first to sign up for your classes and you will be able to meet an academic advisor to really help you.

Great for these types of students

    Northerners and people with scholarships.

high point university is an amazing school that gives students an exceptional education. the staff, faculty, and student body are all so friendly and kind to everyone. its campus is unbelievable and i could not imagine attending any other college.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure you get involved! there are so many clubs, groups, activities, etc that are offered at hpu. the extra curricular activities are endless.

    Academic Rigor

the academics at high point university are impeccable. you are definitely challenged in your classes, but in a good way. and if you are ever struggling your teachers and professors are always offering extra help and assistance.

    Dorm Life

dorm life is awesome! the dorms at hpu are nicer than any other school in the us. everything is clean, well kept, etc. the workers of hpu put in so much effort to give us everything we deserve, but in order to get all this you must show you deserve it.

    Food and Dining

high point's food is great! there are so many options, you hardly ever get bored of it.

    What to do for fun

i am in a sorority so i am very involved in greek life at hpu. i also hang out with my friends a lot, but always make sure my school work comes first.

    Bang for the buck

i haven't met one person on this campus that does not like hpu. it is the most amazing school in the united states. yes the tuition is high, but it is honestly worth every penny. you receive an unbelievable education here and if the tuition is too high for you, hpu offers many scholarships to hundreds of students.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the one thing about high point that is different from most schools, is that you are not allowed to live off campus until you are a senior. i don't mind this because there are so many great places to stay on campus, but many people would like to have that option.

Great for these types of students

    smart, fun, open to anything.

    Clubs and Activities

there is an endless amount of clubs and activities on campus. there is no excuse as to why someone should not be involved in something at hpu.

    Greek Life

greek life is unbelievable at hpu. it is very popular and makes up a large amount of the student population. personally, i am involved in greek life and couldn't imagine my life without it, but i know of some people who decided not to get involved in greek and they still love hpu and do not feel as though they are missing out on anything.

    Campus Safety

i don't think there is a more safe campus in all of north carolina. each and every student feels safe while on campus. whether it be because of the lights everywhere, or the security check points at each entrance of the campus, or the friendly security guards that drive around all day to ensure our safety while at hpu.

A holistic education...our president Nido Qubein advocates this completely. You learn so much outside your respective major.

    Am enjoying being here

There is a reason why students don't leave on the weekends. HPU is the place to be! There is something for everyone to do, every day, any day.

    Bang for the buck

As a scholarship kid, I get the concept of an empty wallet. But this school is definitely worth it, and HPU does everything they can to make sure valued students can afford college.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit and spend a day with actual students on campus. You will get tours and such from staff members and ambassadors, but their speech is scripted. Talking to actual HPU students will give you the real insight to whether or not HPU is right for you.

Great for these types of students

HPU can be 'home' for anyone. But make sure it can be home for you. Come with a positive outlook, be ready to have fun, learn a lot, make friends, and have new experiences!

    Did learn a lot

Professors are nice and approachable. But the students are somewhat lacking in academic ability, so classes will be a breeze anyone who has a halfway decent intelligence.

    Did enjoy being here

The social scene is DOMINATED by greek life. Hardly any clubs and the dorms make it hard to make friends.

    Bang for the buck

Hardly ANY scholarships and taking over the maximum credit hours will cost you HUNDREDS per credit hour.

    Tips for prospective students

Look PAST the marketing tactics that they throw at you. Don't judge the school by the free luxuries.

Great for these types of students

Honestly, High Point is great for you if you are the typical white, rich kid who has to have their parents get everything for them. If you think that sorority/fraternity life is your destined way of life, then you will love this school.

    Am learning a lot

I have had a wonderful academic experience with High Point University (HPU) until approximately one year ago. A fellow student was accused of plagiarism after submitting a project to her instructor in 2009. She was devastated after having been formally accused by her instructor of committing such an immoral act. After consulting with several of the university's faculty members, as well as with professionals in surrounding areas whose careers directly relate to her field of study, she concluded that she, in fact, had not committed an act of plagiarism, but had simply completed the assignment wrong.

After having received this information, she arranged a meeting with both the instructor of the course and the dean of (reluctant to disclose), and presented them both with an official copy of the student handbook in an attempt to discuss their erroneous accusation. During their meeting, she clearly explained how incorrectly completing and submitting the assignment in question could not in any way be construed as plagiarism, and produced a copy of the student handbook section addressing plagiarism in order to corroborate her claim. The student then requested for this formal accusation to be removed from her student file and that she be allowed to resubmit a corrected version of the assignment. The meeting was dismissed immediately following a denial for her request that the accusation be removed from her file, but not before the dean insisted they had done her a favor by not dismissing her from the program all together.

Following this unpleasant experience, the student composed and sent an email to the president of the university, the provost and vice president of academic affairs, the vice president of student affairs (who deals with sanctions such as plagiarism), and the two individuals mentioned in the foregoing paragraph; which summarized the series of events that had occurred up to that point in time and addressed her concerns relating to the unusual situation.

As you could imagine, the student was contacted by the dean of (once again, reluctant to disclose) and was requested to attend a follow-up meeting. As requested, my colleague attended the meeting where she was verbally assaulted and berated for sending letters all over campus for what should have been a confidential situation and making a mountain out of a molehill. The dean insisted that the student had received a slap on the wrist and that the student should have taken her punishment, learned from it and moved on. The student again questioned the definition of plagiarism, as defined in the university's honor code found in the student handbook, as compared to the accusation of her instructor, but the dean insisted she supported the instructor's decision completely. The dean then informed the student that as a favor she would be allowed to redo the assignment, but would receive a zero regardless. The student was then asked how she would like to resolve the situation, and, once again, requested that the plagiarism accusation be removed. The dean's response was that it could not be removed and referred to it as a confidential matter.

The following week, my fellow student met with the vice president of student affairs (who deals with university sanctions) to discuss her formal accusation, however, the vice president explained she did not have any knowledge of the accusation, and that her not knowing was indication that the situation was being handled internally. This was not indicated in the letter which the student received from HPU accusing her of being a plagiarist. Her sincere belief was that she had been charged and would be given the opportunity to be heard by an impartial audience of the Honor Court at HPU. Given the circumstances, she would have been found not guilty. The student contacted the president's secretary and requested a meeting him.

Following these bizarre situations, my colleague withdrew from the course and registered for the upcoming semester's classes. Soon after, she met with her advisor to discuss graduation and the completion of the Product of Learning and the Capstone Experience. Her advisor, who traditionally supervised this aspect of the Capstone Experience, then stated that the dean of (reluctant to disclose) required the student meet with her prior to approval. In reference to the plagiarism accusation, her advisor suggested she write a letter requesting that the charge be removed from her file. The student contacted the president's secretary again to request a meeting with him.

The following week my colleague met with the dean of (reluctant to disclose) to discuss her Capstone Experience, but was denied the request for her advisor to supervise the student, and instead stated that she would be supervising the student, and that she has appointed herself as the student's new academic advisor.

One day, the student received a call from the president's secretary and scheduled a meeting with him...She went to the meeting to discuss the false accusation and requested the charge be removed from her file. She described her conversation as very motivating.

During the following scheduled meeting with her new advisor and dean of (reluctant to disclose), my colleague and the dean discussed the requirements for her Product of Learning. My colleague brought with her the handbook she had received upon acceptance to the program and asked the dean about the possibility of completion of National Board Standards for ******* ********* instead of the Product of Learning. The dean insisted that National Board Certification was not an option to fulfill the requirements for graduation. However, it is included as an option in the handbook. The dean reiterated it was not an option and reminded the student again how lucky she was to have not been dismissed and that she was doing her a favor by allowing her to remain in the program. The student reminded the dean that she was never given the opportunity to defend the plagiarism accusation by appearing in honor court nor was she a plagiarist. My colleague further asserted, having not been provided with the required directions for the assignment in question resulted in it being completed in error which does not denote plagiarism. All references were correctly sited as recognized by copyright law. The dean of (reluctant to disclose) then told her that doing an assignment “wrong” as a graduate student was plagiarism and that she could assure her that the honor court would have agreed with her. The two arranged to meet the following week and my fellow student left the campus in tears.

The following week, the student met with the dean of (reluctant to disclose) to share information about her interpretation of the Product of Learning assignment and was told it was incorrect. A well-respected, knowledgable and very well-known faculty member helped my colleague research her final project, but also had difficulty understanding the assignment, and what information was needed. The student arranged another meeting for the following week with her new advisor so that she could present potential topics.

The next week, the student met with her new advisor to discuss potential topics. According to her advisor, my colleague's interpretation as to the expectations of the assignment was, once again, incorrect. She then explained to her new advisor that none of the classes she had taken at HPU had prepared her for the Product of Learning and this assignment. Her new advisor then became angry and told her she was not graduate school material and how dare she come into the office of the dean of (reluctant to disclose) and question her! Her new advisor then explained how she was not endearing herself to her and that my colleague was burning bridges. The dean of (reluctant to disclose) then suggested that if my colleague did not like how things were, she could go downstairs and withdraw from the program. She also informed her that she could go talk with the provost and vice president of academic affairs, and go talk to the president of the university if she'd like, but it wouldn't change anything...My colleague left the campus crying, once again.

She described this verbal assault to me and how she felt intimidated and how she felt threatened. She explained how she had never been treated so unprofessionally by anyone at HPU or any other university she had attended.

My fellow student met with another student who had recently graduated from HPU; more importantly, though, is the fact the other student had graduated from the same program and earned the same degree which my colleague has been diligently pursuing. The two discussed the Product of Learning and the other student explained her interpretation of the assignment; however, when my colleague met with the dean of (reluctant to disclose) at their next meeting, once again, her new advisor told her that the former HPU graduate's interpretation was incorrect

So my colleague met with the superintendent of a neighboring county's school district to ask him to address how 21st Century skills impact the resource classroom, as the assignment requires, and he explained we are pretty far behind. She then explained the requirements of the the course to him and he suggested that she ask her advisor to set up an observation of a 21st Century classroom. The superintendent gladly offered to accompany her to this observation.

When she met with the dean of (reluctant to disclose), my colleague told her about the conversation she had with the superintendent of the neighboring county's school district and her advisor said, What are you people doing in ******** County? She then suggested that the superintendent take some classes at HPU. My colleague explained how she is a visual learner and needed to see examples of what is expected in the 21st Century resource room. Her new advisor responded, Why do you need to see someone else's work?

After several more meetings with her new advisor and with very little guidance offered; my colleague met with HPU faculty members to gain a better understanding, and also met teachers at two separate nearby schools whose positions and duties coincide with a number of components required to be evaluated in her Product of Learning. Having made progress with her assignment, my colleague submitted her paper to her new advisor who then accepted her work and stated she would provide my colleague feedback and mail these items to her over the summer.

That was May 2010. In September 2010, my colleague met with the dean of (reluctant to disclose) per her request, to be questioned whether she'd had a chance to complete the assignment. My fellow student explained numerous time how she had already submitted the assignment, only to be ridiculed by her advisor who began to explain how out of all of the students who have come through the education program at HPU she has never seen anyone other than her who could not comprehend the expectations of a simple assignment.

After berating my fellow student, her advisor asked if she would like to arrange to meet again the following week...My colleague describes her condition after leaving her advisor's office as her having been emotionally and physically sick.

The following day, my colleague received an email from her advisor stating, as indicated yesterday the paper and flash drive have been located.” Implying that the two had spoken at another time which my colleague explains is not true.

It was at this point that she made the decision to share these horrific experiences with the president, the provost and vice president of academic affairs and the vice president of student affairs. For self preservation, my colleague stated she will not meet with the dean of (reluctant to disclose) again.

    *READER'S NOTE*

My colleague has a cumulative GPA of 3.667, yet, her self appointed advisor and dean of (reluctant to disclose) has suggested that she is not graduate material AND that my colleague could tell the president, and the provost and vice president of academic affairs but that nothing would change...

My colleague's advisor speaks the truth ladies and gents...Nothing has changed, and she sent a letter, certified mail, to high ranking HPU officials (whose positions are mentioned in the foregoing text) which explains, in sequence and in far greater detail than I have provided you with here, the ongoing abusive and unorthodox treatment she has been subjected to at this institution.

You know what they did say?

My colleague received a one page, typed response explaining how she has put too much effort and spent too much money to let something like this stand in the way of earning her degree. Not a single one of her concerns was addressed. The provost and vice president of academic affairs, who signed the letter, went so far as to suggest that she meet with her advisor as soon as possible to resume working on her project.

I believe that some form of corruption exists on every level of virtually any one of society's institutions. As a current student of High Point University, let me send you an email; at the bottom you will find the school's vision, the university purports At High Point University every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people.

I have experienced the care of this university first hand, with a situation I won't disclose here. The damage I suffered was considerably less detrimental than that of my colleague's, but nonetheless, I too have gained exposure to just how genuine and caring their sterling faculty truly is. And extraordinary is in stark contrast with any one of the flowery adjectives I would choose to describe this institution.

I hope I have not discouraged any of you prospective students, or your parents for that matter, from joining HPU to try and help bring up their 56% graduation rate. . .(sarcasm)

I doubt this type of situation occurs very often, perhaps this is even the only situation like this which has occurred. But I would like to impart with you this: If this multi-million dollar business sells by advertising their inspiration and their care for the students, then why should my friend be any exception? Why, after crying in the office of the president of such an EXTRAORDINARY institution, has she been treated so dismissively? Why has she not received the the care purported in their vision that seems to be stamped or embroidered on any piece of HPU paraphernalia that one would likely make the mistake of purchasing?

Because it sells...Period...The fountains, the ice cream truck, the Starbucks, the NASDAQ bell ringing...It all may very well seem so aesthetically pleasing but at the end of the day, it's unfathomable how HPU's little demigod continues to draw students in from all over our nation when he fails to deliver on the first and, seemingly, most simple promise to his students, caring.

*The factual assertions made in the foregoing text are all backed by empirical evidence*

If you wish to inquire further, feel free to email me at litleblackduck@gmail.com I will happily provide you with specific details to substantiate these claims, and to expose the truth about High Point University.

High Point is a college resort. The campus is beautiful and the professors are awesome. It has all the southern charm with a contemporary feel.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to talk to students you see on campus. We are more than happy to talk about our school. Also, take the time to meet some professors and sit in on a class. That's a great way to see what it's like.

    Academic Rigor

Your education is what you make of it, make an effort in your classes and you will get a lot out of it.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are fantastic! No crappy run-down buildings here. Each dorm building is its own community with different things to offer.

    Food and Dining

There are tons of places to eat on campus including the Great Day Bakery, The Point Sports Grill, The Farmer's Market, Chick-fil-a, Subway, Starbucks and more/

    What to do for fun

On campus we have the Extraordinaire Cinema (free for students!), an arcade, a recreational center and a performing arts theater. There are also a ton of student organizations to get involved with.

    Bang for the buck

Though tuition and housing is pricey, you are spoiled rotted here. Anything that you want or need is here. HPU makes sure its students are happy.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There are two main traditions: one as a freshman and one as a senior. After signing the honor code, the freshman walk to the amphitheater and place their hand in the waterfall. The seal in front of Roberts Hall must not be stepped on until you are graduating. It's considered taboo if you walk across it before commencement.

Great for these types of students

HPU is perfect for those who are interested in a great education and are willing to be involved and give back to the community.

    Clubs and Activities

If we don't already have it, then you can start it. There is a club or activity for everyone, and no I'm not exaggerating.

    Greek Life

For a smaller school, Greek Life is pretty big. The majority of students are involved. However, if Greek Life isn't your thing there's no pressure for you to join. There are still plenty of people who are just fine not being in a fraternity or sorority.

    Campus Safety

Incredibly safe! Security patrols on foot, segway, bike, golf cart and car. There are security poles placed throughout campus. You really can't go 20 ft without seeing security in some form.

High point Unuversity is a good college to attend. It's staff are helpful and the people there are really great to be around. People that I know who have graduated from High Point University give nothing less than excellent review of the school.
