    Am learning a lot

I am learning so much from being at IUPUI. Learning new things from my major as well as new ways do do things from subjects I have already taken in high school. Aside from the classroom learning, I have learned so much about others background since IUPUI, is a well diverse campus.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being down at IUPUI. The city around it is amazing and nothing is too far. You have an opportunity to make many friends and just learn new things because again IUPUI is one of the most diverse campus in the U.S. to my knowledge.

    Bang for the buck

IUPUI is worth every penny. It is always something going on on campus, IUPUI have brought many well-known speakers to the campus, and it is and has been just an enriching experience

    Tips for prospective students

For many students reading this, I would advise you to finish as strongly as you can in your last year of high school. Your most important years are the freshman and senior year (at least in my opinion), especially senior year. You also want to be really active in the school as well as the community because IUPUI has several scholarships for just community service. You really want to put your best foot forward when you get into IUPUI or any other college.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who are looking to learn more about other backgrounds and cultures. It is especially great for students who are looking for many friends to make and countless things to do. And it is especially great for students looking into a field of technology or nursing.

IUPUI is a really good school that offers a large variety of courses. I've learned alot so far and the Professors are really considerate, helpful, and professional. If you are a student that takes your education and future seriously, this would be a good choice.

    Am enjoying being here

It is not a Party School and the campus is not extremely large. However it has a good learning environment that makes it really easy to stay focused.

    Bang for the buck

IUPUI is not the cheapest university and it is for from the most expensive. I would say one year's tution without room and board would be around $6,000.

    Tips for prospective students

Do well from beginning to end! Do not wait til the end of the semester to try and bring your grades up. If you give your all from the start, you will not have to stress and struggle at the end.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI especially has a really good programs for those majoring in Health care fields. there are about 3 different hospitals located less than 3 blocks from the campus, not to mention IU has it's own hospital.

    Am learning a lot

IUPUI is an incredible institution to start a new chapter of your life and education. I've always been told that you usually learn something new everyday, but at IUPUI I learn gobs of new information everyday! With over 250 degrees from 21 schools and 10,000 classes to choose, from both Purdue and Indiana University, how could you not learn a lot? The learning opportunities seem endless!

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy attending IUPUI! Indianapolis offers so many opportunities for everyone. There is something about the campus that makes me feel at home. The diversity of students and professors is a total culture shock, especially if you come from a small town like me! But it is so fun to meet new people from different ethnic cultures with varied goals in life. At IUPUI there are many ways to meet new people. For example, you could join one or more of the 120 student organizations!

    Bang for the buck

IUPUI is perfect if you aren't wanting to be buried in loans for the rest of your life. I'm getting my degree from the IU School of Physical Education & Tourism Management. If I would have gone to IU Bloomington I would have had to come up with at least $13,000 more than the cost of attending IUPUI. I was also able to cut down my tuition cost through IUPUI scholarships. IUPUI administers over $8 million in institutional financial aid and scholarships every year! Included in IUPUI's tuition is the use of academic support like the Math Assistance Center, Bepko Learning Center, Speaker's Lab, Writing Center, and many more.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out the admission requirements, future students link on the IUPUI website, quick facts, and information about Indy and the community to help you make your decision in choosing the right college.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is one of the top commuter schools in Indiana. You can still live at home, have a job, and attend school with ease. IUPUI also offers a lot of night classes and online classes. I have taken both types of classes and was extremely pleased with the classes compared to my other morning classes.

IUPUI is a great place to learn. There are many different paths you can take no matter what your major is.

    Am enjoying being here

There is always something happening on campus. They have something to entertain any personality.

    Bang for the buck

Great education for an affordable expense. The knowledge you acquire at IUPUI will stick with you indefinitely.

    Tips for prospective students

College is a completely new experience from high school. Step onto campus willing to learn and put your best foot forward. Make studying top priority, you will have time for fun afterwards. I would recommend living on campus, live the college life, meet new people, and make new friends!

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is great for any type of student. The class sizes are relatively small.. There is a lot of diversity; including ethnic, age, religion, etc.. Lots of housing choices on campus.. An overall great place for anyone to learn!

    Academic Rigor

the teachers here are great. 71% of the classes have 30 or less students which help us have a more personal relationship with the teachers who prefer that because they want us to succeed. they give you their office hours and encourage you to come and speak with them if you need any help or have any problems. also there are so many resources if we do need help. they have many tutors and mentors, a math assistance center, a speech assistance center where you can actually give your speech and they will critique it or they will review what you have written and give you ideas. also, there is two writing centers where they help you through the entire process from start to finish of writing your paper, one of them is specific to research papers.

    Am enjoying being here

The IUPUI campus is such a great environment. It is clean and well kept. There are so many friendly people here and you cant walk through a door, if someone else is around, without them holding it open for you.

    Bang for the buck

even though i'm out of state and have to pay a lot, i really like it and do not regret my decision, otherwise i wouldn't be spending all this money to be here. also, i enjoy it so much that i am going to stay here for graduate school.

    Tips for prospective students

students should get to know their professor! they are always great resources and you never know when you need them for a recommendation letter or to help you get an internship/job.
students should get involved in organizations and community service! it is a great way to make new friends and earn experience.
students should work hard, stay on top of homework, and read their books! you are starting out with a clean slate and you will want to try to hold that gpa as high as you can for as long as you can.
students should use the academic resources (mentors and tutors) on campus if they are struggling because they do help!

Great for these types of students

students that are eager to learn and learn better with real world experiences. we have a lot of outside experience allowing us to apply what we have learned in the classroom out in the community.

    Tips for prospective students

I love IUPUI. Most of the classes are actually pretty small considering the large size of the campus. Definatly do your best your senior year because usually any C's or lower they don't accept.

Great for these types of students

Students that value their education and want to succeed without all the hassle of the living expenses. There is a Ball-residence hall if you want a college dorm life and there is plently of off campus apartments.

IUPUI is a great college and a fun place to be and learn new experiences. The campus allows student to commute, so students can save on expenses regarding living expense. Also the professors are very experienced and show great dedication towards giving students the best education.

    Tips for prospective students

If students wish to go to college and not worry too much about expenses then, I greatly recommend students pick IUPUI. Also if you just can't pick between Indiana University and Purdue University, then pick IUPUI since then you can experience a little bit of both.

    Academic Rigor

IUPUI has many different departments and class offerings. They also have a variety of classes to allow students to learn for their major or take a class as an elective just for fun.

    Dorm Life

Students are not required to live on campus, even if you are a freshman. For those who wish to live on campus, there are on campus apartments and other places that students can rent which are near the campus.

    Food and Dining

The main restaurants are located in the campus centers, and there are a variety of healthy meals. Nothing is too expensive and students have the option of paying with meal plans for the year.

    What to do for fun

IUPUI has many extracurricular clubs and activities for students to partake in. There is a game room in the campus center that is open to anyone, or if students just prefer a quiet area or the outside then there are many places students can find a place to relax or socialize.

The classes are hard and difficult sometimes, but the professors are nice and are willing to work with you and help you with anything you need help with. Also, there a lot of resources here that help you with whatever subject you need. For example, there is a math lab that you can go to to get help with whatever type of math you are taking. THere are also biology labs and writing labs.

    Am enjoying being here

Being on campus is fun. You meet a lot of new people. Even though this school is more of a commuter college, it can still be fun to stay on campus.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition isn't that bad. One semester for me is less than $5,000. That may seem a lot but compared to a lot of the surrounding schools, it is pretty good.

    Tips for prospective students

Students who want to come to IUPUI should apply early and have everything in before the deadline, especially if you want to live in the dorms. There is only one building for the dorms so you have to apply early. You can also live in the apartments. There are more of those.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is a great school if you are majoring in some type of science, engineering, or nursing. They have excellent programs for these majors.

There are so many different classes you can take here!! I have so many different options for classes that I have to take for general education classes and my major requirement classes! The teachers really care about you! There also mentors that can help you in your classes and have review sessions every week in certain classes!

    Am enjoying being here

There is so much to do on campus and here in the city! I love just driving around seeing the different buildings and houses. The advising here is amazing-if you have any questions about classes you can ask your teachers, adviser, or the peer advisers.

    Bang for the buck

Classes are interesting and worthwhile paying the money for them. I have learned a lot already in my first semester here!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply early for housing if you plan on living on campus! Also check out other websites for textbooks, they will be cheaper than the book store. I would not recommend buying the meal plan, just put money on your student id.

Great for these types of students

    All kinds of students!

This is why you go to college, right? The professors, material, class size, learning environment, and other students come together perfectly... and the result is five star-worthy learning.

    Am enjoying being here

As a business and art student, Indianapolis is the perfect location - living in a city with both a strong business environment and a strong art culture is definitely beneficial. Socially, there is always something fun going on downtown - music, art, theater, athletics, museums, etc.
The students and staff who are part of the Honors College are fantastic, and being a part of this smaller community makes a 30,000-student campus more personal and less overwhelming.

    Bang for the buck

Make sure to research scholarship opportunities through IUPUI - there are many available.

Prestigious scholarships through the IUPUI Honors College:
    Bepko Scholars and Fellows Program
    Herbert Presidential Scholars Program
    Plater Distinguished Scholars Program

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of your campus visits and advisor meetings - get all of your questions answered.

Great for these types of students

Business students, art students, medical/life sciences students, students who want to pursue a non-traditional combination of majors/minors, students who want a personal Honors College experience at a large university.

    Did learn a lot

IUPUI was the first college I attended and it was very helpful and easy to understand. Anytime I had a question it was answered quickly and thoroughly. I was always informed of everything way ahead of time. The professors are wonderful and actually take time outside of class to help you. Overall, I learned a lot because the professors care and so does the school.

    Did enjoy being here

I loved going to IUPUI. Everyone was friendly and helpful and if I was sitting alone someone would sit with me and talk. It was an awesome school!

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely worth the money and it is actually a lot cheaper than a lot of schools. I am doing a program right now with Ivy Tech and IUPUI to save even more money, so overall it is the bang for the buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Pay attention to what the professors say and use all the resources that the school has because they are a great help.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are on track or who aren't. If you are doing well they will help you keep doing well and if you are not doing well, they will help you get on track. Overall it is great for anyone.

The information that they present at IUPUI is definitely up-to-date and very relevant. I have learned quite a lot since beginning school here.

    Am enjoying being here

Honestly, though IUPUI is academically a very good school, I find it to be a very boring school as well. Essentially, there just isn't too much to do while on campus. The location gives you access to downtown Indianapolis, but as far as the campus is concerned, it's not that great.

    Bang for the buck

When it comes to colleges, IUPUI is a very affordable one. Although it still requires some nice monetary principle to begin (like all investments) it could be much worse.

    Tips for prospective students

The one thing I would suggest for perspective students is to keep on top of homework assignments. I would say that this is even more important than attending class, being that, so long as you understand the course material, you should have no problem passing your class.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is a fantastic college for students who wish to obtain a degree but do not want to travel far from home; as such, IUPUI seems to be more of a commuter college than an on-campus college. That being said, IUPUI is a great school for anyone wanting to pick a Motorsports Engineering degree. Other than that, I would stick to IUPUI for proximity or financial reasons.

It's very easy to become in contact with your professors here. There are many resources no matter your major. For math you have the Mathematics Assistance Center (MAC), computer science you have a tutoring area to have help on programming, concepts etc., and also a writing center. I'm majoring in math and computer science so can only speak for those and can say that they help out immensely! I work for the MAC and we are required to do homework problems on current material to ensure students have the best help. It's also easy to find professors (not necessarily yours) to help out on a question. For example I had a Calculus question and just went to the math department (the MAC was closed) and asked a professor. She wasn't busy and helped me with the problem.

Because there's so much collaboration and aid available here, it really aids in the learning experience. Professors are able to give concrete examples of the material and apply it to your major. It's also easy to form study groups. There are applications to form study groups and also forms available to help you create your own. I did this my freshmen year in Calculus and it proved to be very useful. With all that said, I've had a very rewarding experience thus far.

Some students have a stereotype formed in their head about IUPUI that it will be too easy and not very enriching--they're wrong. No matter where you go, what you put in is what you get out. If you study hard to learn the material and actually take the time to understand what you're doing (ask questions, go to office hours, etc.) you will receive an enriching education anywhere.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being here because of the learning environment, activities going on year round, opportunities, and clubs. There's a plethora of activities going on almost every day that I receive an email about. I'm currently involved in Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies. They may sound like fraternities but they aren't, just clubs available for students who have excelled thus far in school. I'm involved in Math Club as a Web Master, Computer Science Club as the Facebook Admin, Circle K international as the Bulletin Editor and Electronic Publicist, and other things that I've found to do.

Education is #1 on my list, but because I'm involved in the community here at IUPUI, I am having a much more rewarding an enriching experience.

    Bang for the buck

The sole reason why I came to IUPUI and not Purdue University-West Lafayette, was due to price. The cost of tuition for both Indiana University (IU) and Purdue University were too expensive, and I didn't want to take out a lot of loans. Ironically enough, IUPUI has been significantly less expensive in tuition and room/board.

The best part is is that I'll graduate with a Purdue degree and an IU degree. As said on IUPUI's website, there is no IUPUI degree. You graduate with either an IU degree or Purdue. Because I'm double majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics, I will graduate in 4 years (yes four, see tips..) with both a degree from IU and Purdue for a less expensive price. You can't beat that.

    Tips for prospective students

Best advice is learning how to schedule. I really can't stress that enough. Knowing how to schedule and organize yourself is #1 on the list, even before grades. If you can't schedule yourself or know how to allocate your time together I can guarantee your grades will be compromised. Even if you're a student who studies and learns best under pressure and does everything last second, your grades will be compromised. Learning how to schedule allows you to be involved in other things, internships (there's SOOO many opportunities to be involved in the workforce), clubs, service opportunities, etc.

#2, be involved. Quite a few of my friends aren't involved on campus and it's really a shame because you meet new people, build connections, and have a much better time here. This allows you to network. It would be nice if when you graduate the person in the room that you're interviewing in is someone who was with you in a club eh? Now that shouldn't be the deciding factor but it's nice to build connections and network. The only way to do that is be involved. Either with classmates, in a club, working in an internship or what have you, and networking is key.

#3, budget your time wisely and learn self-discipline. This is VERY important that you know how to budget your time wisely. Budgeting your time towards school and fun go along with what I said about scheduling above. The more you have a handle on your schedule the better you'll be. Handling your schedule efficiently takes self-discipline.

#4, look for overlapping classes to minor and/or major in. I'm a Computer Science (CS) and Mathematics major. Most people would say wow that's a lot of work, and believe it or not it's not much more. If you have a CS major you have to take math classes that overlap with the math major. One more math class equals a minor. A major is about 4 more math classes. Now there's a section on the Math major checklist for Advanced electives, General Electives, and Advanced Area of Concentration, all these sections are taken up by my CS major. There's a second english class you have to take for Math that's taken up by a CS class you have to take. So by finding out how things overlap and classes I can take that may help me achieve a minor and/or major in something else, I'm majoring in CS and Applied Math without much more work. LOOK for these things; it will look VERY good on a resume if you had two majors instead of a major and a minor.

Great for these types of students

Another thing I'd like to say is that there are more opportunities available here at IUPUI because it's located downtown. Nursing majors are right next to the Riley Hospital and receive hands on experience. Because it's both IU and Purdue, business majors will benefit from being around a lot of businesses. In the science department (Math, CS, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, etc.) there are many research opportunities and workshops available year round.

good luck and hope to see you here!

IUPUI puts focus not only on information but being able to apply that information, through research and internships.

    Am enjoying being here

The urban campus adds a lot of opportunities to get involved and meet a diverse group of people.

    Bang for the buck

When you graduate from IUPUI you graduated with either a degree from Indiana University or a degree from Purdue University for almost half the price of Indiana University and Purdue University. IUPUI also offers numerous scholarships, including ones for having good grades in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early and don't slack off your senior year, they look at grades and how much students were involved in high school.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is best for students who desire a top-notch education without the price. As well as students interested in being involved in research and career opportunities before graduating.

At IUPUI, and college in general, you learn something new every single day. Whether it is in your classes or just by being around new people, there are many opportunities for students to seek out new information. One of these ways, is by utilizing your professors. They want every student to succeed and be a productive member of society. They strive for this everyday and encourage their students to ask questions and get help if they need it.

    Am enjoying being here

IUPUI is amazing so far. There is almost always something to do, whether it is an intramural sport or events and activities going on, there is always something to do and get involved in. On top of that, with the close proximity to downtown, the amount of things to do, grows tremendously. On any given weekend, there is bound to be some kind of festival or sporting event going on. If that doesn't float your boat, then there are many other places to go and check out, including the many museums located across the city.

    Bang for the buck

IUPUI is very dollar friendly. When it comes to housing, students have a wide range of choices depending on what exactly they are looking for and how much they are looking to spend. These choices include the Campus Apartments, Townhouses, and the residence hall. On top of that, there are many choices off campus that might entice you, depending on what your needs are. When it comes to tuition, it is also pretty cheap and there are many scholarships that are offered. So if you think tuition may be too much, just try applying to a scholarship or two. IUPUI is known to be a commuter school because people that live near campus drive to school and don't have to live on campus, which also saves a lot of money.

    Tips for prospective students

When applying to IUPUI, get your applications in as soon as you can. I made the mistake of waiting to take my SAT's, which delayed IUPUI getting my scores, which then delayed them notifying me of whether I was accepted or not. Early is also better because then you have a better chance of being a direct admit into the college of whatever your course of study is in. Another tip is just get involved. There are so many clubs and organizations that IUPUI has to offer, it's very easy to be active in one of them and it is a great way to meet new people that you might not have ever seen before.

Great for these types of students

If you are a student that likes meeting all kinds of different people and likes being in a city where the amount of things to do never ends, then I would highly suggest IUPUI. The class sizes are relatively small and the professors are easy to get along with and always willing to help. As long as you show up to class, put forth an effort, and take college seriously, then IUPUI might just be the place for you. If you think that IUPUI sounds like the place for you, then I would highly suggest coming to campus and taking a tour to find out for yourself, what a great place IUPUI is.

I love the professors at IUPUI. If you take the initiative and get to know them they are very willing to help you with any questions or concerns pertaining to their class, subject, or even usually about college. The classes all vary in size but I have learned so much this semester.

    Am enjoying being here

I looked at a lot of different schools as a high school senior to try and make the best decision in picking a college. I am definitely glad that I picked IUPUI because of the amazing opportunities here. I am majoring in a medical career and there are several hospitals right on campus where I can volunteer and shadow people. This actually led to a major change because of the amazing opportunities here. Also, there is so many opportunities to participate in research projects. Also, the proximity of IUPUI to downtown Indy means that there is always something to do whether or not you live on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Since IUPUI is a state college it is a lot cheaper than private colleges but this does not mean that you have to suffer with mediocrity. There are lots of new computer and medical labs. Also, the class sizes are still mostly pretty small even thought it is a state college.

    Tips for prospective students

The best tip that I can offer for prospective students is to come out and tour the campus during regular school season and not during breaks so that you can get a real feel for the school. Also, if you can, sit in on a class and see if you can shadow a student for a day. The best tip that I can offer for new students would be to definitely take the extra effort to get to know your professors. Even if you just go and talk to them after class or stop by their office for a short time it will really pay off in the long run.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is great for lots of different types of students. With the new Honor's College, any student who is interested in graduating with an Honor's notation would definitely benefit from this new program at IUPUI. Also, with renowned schools such as the Kelley School of Business, the Herron School of Art, and other schools IUPUI offers students lots of options in majors.

IUPUI is on the rise with its real college feel. The abundant opportunities that lie around Indy present themselves as you go through your college career here. A very new, and up to date campus has been awesome and it's literally a ten minute walk from downtown; you can't beat all of that with the very affordable price of tuition here!

    Tips for prospective students

Get to know your teachers here! They are excellent and often I have found that they have connections to future employers/internships or at least contact info for numerous opportunities. Also, don't be afraid of the city, it's not right in the heart of downtown. You'll still have that urban feel, but it's not crowded or cluttered. Still feels like a college campus.

    Academic Rigor

IUPUI seems to offer a wide variety of majors and courses, especially in the medical/science side. It's the best of both IU and Purdue. It can be as hard and as challenging as you want it to be, and yet very flexible as you need it to be.

    Dorm Life

While there a limited number of dorms and apartments here on campus, it is still easy to get into to. Since it started as a commuter campus, it's slowly but surely catching up and utilizing its residential potentials. The apartments are nice and dorm life is not yet what it could be, but I still can't complain. It does its job well.

    Food and Dining

With it being so close to downtown, there aren't as much options on-campus. But they still have a cafe of restaurants with multiple options of taste and food options. If that's not your cup of tea, then not but a 5 minute walk north there are several more choices at Indiana Ave. Very accessible and fits any food budget.

    What to do for fun

It's limitless, since downtown Indy is just about part of the outskirts of campus there's no telling what you'll find. Shopping? The mall is accessible and varied. Also tons of shops and interesting spots throughout the city! Like sports? Pacers', Colts', Indian's games are all less than a 15 minute walk and affordable! The State museum, NCAA hall of fame, and the Eiteljorg museum are on the southern tip of campus. Something is always happening downtown!

    Bang for the buck

The price of tuition here is what interested me in enrolling here. For the number opportunities to get ahead in your career and experiences you'll have here, and not to mention the varied academic choices, you can't get anything like this for the price! While it might not be as prestigious as some other in state colleges, you'll get a great education and have fun doing it!

    Campus Safety

You might think with downtown looming you get the crime too. Not true. I have not a had anything, or heard of anything from my peers about something happening to them here on campus. It is a very safe campus. The police department for the campus is attached to the dorm, and next to the apartments. they always have plenty of officers and cars on watch day in and day out.

iupui is a great place to get involved, and i am very happy with my decision to attend here. there are fewer parties than traditional campuses, something that is positive for the image of a university. the staff and professors are friendly and always willing to help.

    Tips for prospective students

get involved! lots of students commute from home so they tend to leave as soon as they can. stick around after class and join a few organizations. it makes the college life so much better.

    Academic Rigor

i love my professors, but at the same time i recognize the academic challenge is little. however, if you really want to be challenged academically, the honors college is excellent. just make sure you have a high enough high school gpa for entrance.

    Dorm Life

i live in campus apartments, and i love them. they are very expensive...but the atmosphere is great. not worth it if you're on a tight budget. there are cheaper dorms available for freshmen.

    Food and Dining

expensive food, but a lot of options available since you are in downtown indianapolis.

    What to do for fun

hang out with people! lots of organizations and events going on throughout the week.

Great for these types of students

    Clubs and Activities

so many clubs and organizations! if you have an interest, there's a club designed for it. (and if not, you can make one!)

    Campus Safety

iupui is has a great educational atmosphere that goes out of its way to teach its students valuable life experience. iupui is a university that teaches its students to try to make impact on its community by doing various volunteer activities. the university is pretty unique because it is part of downtown indianapolis

    Tips for prospective students

i would tell a prospective student to live on campus, so they can get the college experience. i would also tells them to get involved, for it will make ones college experience richer. the last thing i would say is to stay focused on their school work.

    Academic Rigor

classes are pretty hard and a student will have to earn their grade. also, iupui has different help centers that are free to its students and can be used throughout the year.professors are pretty knowing of what they teach

    Dorm Life

iupui had an multitude of housing events that are fun and are great bonding experiences. the ra's here are amazing and are their for their residents. majority of iupui's housing has a/c and is on campus.

    Food and Dining

iupui has it's own outtakes system of sandwiches, salads and healthy choices. one can go to campus center and eat from a couple of restaurants, including chic-fil-a. even though iupui doesn't have a ton of dining options on campus, it is located downtown where there are a multitude of restaurants that take jagtags.

    What to do for fun

one can attend many of the housing or campus events, go and see a free movie, or just hang out with friends. me and my friends like to go walking on the canal or go shopping at circle center, a multi-level mall. one can also go to one of several museums that are located downtown

    Campus Safety

campus houses its own police fleet. if any of the students feel like they are in danger, they can press the emergency kiosks that are located throughout campus. iupui also has its own phone number that a student can call if they do not feel safe that will send a police officer to you at night or during the day.

    Am learning a lot

The academics at IUPUI are exemplary. I'm very impressed with how well the professors understand the subject matter, and are able to convey that along to the students. Many of the professors, regardless of class size, will take time out of their schedules to work with students one on one.

    Am enjoying being here

At first when I arrived at IUPUI, I was extremely underwhelmed with the quality of the social aspect of the school. As with anything worth doing, the social and organizational side of IUPUI requires some work. Once you strive for a while, however, you'll find that there is an awesome infrastructure of organizations. I joined Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and they have made the experience far better than it could have been without them.

    Bang for the buck

As far as colleges go, IUPUI is fairly inexpensive. Even so, you still receive a top-dollar education, as well as many opportunities for internships within the city. Especially for students interested in business or research, there are many chances to work with large corporations or respected scientists.

    Tips for prospective students

When you step onto campus for the first time it is very easy to feel disconnected, as IUPUI is generally a commuter campus. Don't let this dissuade you from trying to get involved with the organizations offered.

Great for these types of students

IUPUI is awesome for business students, as well as students interested in the sciences.

    Tips for prospective students

If you have a relatively good GPA and test scores, you'll probably have little trouble getting in. But, if you apply to a competitive program (like Nursing, for me), you've really gotta get your head in the game your freshman year, because some of their programs only accept you your sophomore year based on your college GPA and an interview.

Great for these types of students

If you like an urban environment, you should definitely look into IUPUI. It is literally right in the middle of the city. Also, their Nursing program is excellent (one of the best in the country), but also very competitive. If you like a huge, stimulating environment with a good education, you definitely need to consider IUPUI.

IUPUI is a great school with a diverse student body as well as staff. The location of the school being in downtown Indianapolis there is never a shortage of things to do. With IUPUI's top botch academics this is deffiently not a school to be overlooked.

    Tips for prospective students

Look at the location and classes offered by IUPUI before you make your decision. It is a joint university of Indiana University and Purdue University wit several schools from each university so the degrees offered will be different. Also make sure you like the location. Downtown Indianapolis is not the place for everybody if you don't like the location your college expierence may suffer.

    Academic Rigor

The academics at IUPUI are nothing short of outstanding. The Professors are experts at thier subjects and are always willing to lend a hand. Ever course a IUPUI is challenging, but help is always there when needed.

    Dorm Life

The Dorms are not the best I have seen. Most of the dorms are old buildings simply repurposed for dorm living. I would recommend communiting or getting a apartment on campus.

    Food and Dining

Many restraints like Chik-Fil-La, Papa Johns, and Noodle Co. Are all on campus with many more. Har nt actually tried the cafeteria food, but I would imagine it would be close to most colleges food.

    What to do for fun

Downtown Indianapolis is just a few short blocks from school. Ou can go to cCircle Center Mall to shop, walk down Gerogia street for a tasty meal, and visit Lucas Oil Stadium for a Colts game. This is only scratching the surface of what can be due on your down time.

This is a great university for commuters or on campus students.
If you like the city, you'll love this campus/school.
This University gives you the ability to potentially graduate with both a Purdue and IU degree for less than it would cost to attend either University.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved! It's hard to meet people at first because it is mostly a commuter college but once you find extra activities that you like and know where to go about finding the listings for them this school becomes a lot more fun and you meet a lot of amazing people.

    Academic Rigor

IUPUI is very good about keeping you on your toes as far as academics go. Of course this will vary from class to class and from professor to professor, but overall the courses are challenging yet manageable if you put in the time and effort.

    Dorm Life

The dorm life is scarce at IUPUI there are freshman dorms, townhouses, and apartments at the current time but they are rather pricey just because living downtown is pricey regardless. With this said, IUPUI is in the process of building more dorms in order to accommodate for it's students. Also, living on campus, though expensive, is worth it. It is a good way to meet people and there are many events that you can get involved in with the people you live around.

    Food and Dining

There are dining options in the Campus Center though there aren't many options overall on campus. Although, with the campus being in the heart of downtown Indy, there are many more dining options available if you venture off campus. Price ranges are also good around downtown because you can have a nice formal sit down meal or go for more casual fast food as well.

    What to do for fun

There are usually a number of events going on at IUPUI's campus from socials to charity events but also because of the location in downtown Indianapolis there are many other things to do for fun if you adventure a bit. Some of these include concerts at the old Murat (which is walking distance from campus), visiting Mass Ave, going to First Friday art events around town, visiting the various museums that surround campus (often for free or at a reduced price), check out the circle center mall (also within walking distance), visit Broadripple, walking the canal, etc.

    Bang for the buck

This campus is excellent as far as bang for your buck. As mentioned before you have the potential to graduate with an IU, Purdue, or IU and Purdue degree for less than it would cost to attend either of those schools. Although living expenses can be high at times due to location, the cost is made up for in the academic options and credibility of the IUPUI.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The campus center is unlike any I have ever seen at any other university. completely modern in it's design the campus center is comprised of mostly windows, five floors that can be seen throughout the building, a game room and theater downstairs. Also, almost all of the campus is attached by what we call gerbil tubes making it so that students don't have to walk outside in bad weather. Another great thing to check out is the campus' own Herron art school. There are usually a number of interesting exhibits to venture through for free.
Also there are a large number of international students so diversity is all around campus both regarding students but also clubs and events.

Great for these types of students

Great for Students that love the city.
Great for students that have an interest in research.
Great for students interested in medical fields and especially nursing or dentistry.
    Great for art students.
AMAZING for students that are big on community service and civic engagement.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many many clubs and activities around campus. There are too many to list, but the trick is finding out about them. Once you explore your options and get to know people you're golden. I've learned that once you get involved in one, you usually end up involved in a few.
Also, keep an eye out for alternative breaks, they're a fun thing to do during breaks and they look great on resumes. They're also a great way to meet new people!

    Greek Life

There is Greek life at IUPUI. There are a number of sororities and fraternities and you will see them throughout campus fundraising and etc. (IUPUI does not currently have Greek houses)

    Campus Safety

The campus is suprisingly safer than i thought it would be. Of course living in downtown Indianapolis, you have to be catious and it may not be as safe as universities located in rural secluded areas. Although IUPUI does a great job about keeping safety as a priority by having a number of emergency boxes located around campus and they also have a calling service that will have the campus police walk you to your car or your housing residence (on campus) if you don't feel safe. The campus police are also located right next to the dorms and housing.

This college has absolutely everything you would ever need. It is a short walk from downtown, so there are a incredible opportunities that come with just location! The professors care and you can feel as if you are making a difference here.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply for all the scholarships ASAP! The best ones you can only get as a freshman, and you are pretty much screwed after that.

    Academic Rigor

It all depends on what classes you take. The honor's course, you work alongside the professor and do a shitton of work.

    Dorm Life

The dorms suck. That's why I lived in the apartments, which are super nice. Life in the housing isn't all that great, although there are a few events housing councils host which are pretty fun.

    Food and Dining

The foodcourt doesn't give you many options. Luckily, there is Riley Hospital on campus, which has its own food court that you can use your JagTag at.

    What to do for fun

Walk around Indy! There's tons to do in the city! Plus the zoo is right there, along with a gorgeous canal that you can run/walk.

    Bang for the buck

There are a lot of opportunities that IUPUI presents that other schools can't! For a pre-med student like myself, this was not only way cheaper than IU or PU, but it just had more internships and connections.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

No traditions, sadly. It's still a relatively new school. We're trying to get away from the commuter college stigma, but it's hard.

Great for these types of students

Pre-professional! People come to Indianapolis for all the internships and hospitals that are at your fingertips!

    Clubs and Activities

Again, it's all what you put into it. I stay involved because I want to. You pretty much see the same people in all the clubs, but those people are really fun!

    Greek Life

What Greek Life? There are frats/soroities but they don't have houses. They try to do activities but it ends up being only a Greek thing, rather than a campus thing.

    Campus Safety

There's tons of police eveyrwhere. They even have an escort service if you have a late class. I've personally never used it, but it's there!

IUPUI is a good school in Indianapolis. They have many degree programs. They also have a really good nursing school for nursing students.

    Tips for prospective students

For new students you need to study. College is not like high school and they do not spoon feed you. That might one of the challenging parts is to get adjusted to college. Learn you way around the campus. Since it is in Indiana it does snow and there are many ways to get to get to class. Another big thing is go to class. You are not made to go, but if you want to pass go to class everyday!

    Academic Rigor

One thing about the campus most students are there like you they want to get a degree. You have to want to do well. No teacher is really pushing you to do homework so you have to do it yourself. Stay on track and try to make good grades. Go on your own pace do not let the counselors push you and set you up for failure. Take you time so you can do well the first time. These schools wants the best to graduate and they do find the best. So try very hard in school.

    Dorm Life

They need to work on there dorm life. They only have one dorm. That is only for freshman. For upper class men you have to get an apartment downtown. Those apartments are very expensive. I have seen the dorms and they are a nice size for however many roommates. You don't have a a shower room each room has their own bathroom.

    Food and Dining

There are not many food places. There are only food places are in the food center. The food is not the tasty. The hours are terrible. They are only open during center times. If you ever get hungry at the middle of the night you will have to drive to another place.

IUPUI is a great commuter school with a beautiful campus. The buildings are all pretty close together, and you can walk between most without having to go outside. One negative aspect is the size; there are so many people that it's hard to make a personal connection with the faculty.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you know your way around, and learn all the little details, like the fact that you can park ANYWHERE after 4pm! Bringing lunch is also much cheaper than buying school food, too. Also, try and buy your textbooks online somewhere, or directly from other studentsl; Barnes & Noble charges outrageous prices!

    Academic Rigor

My classes have all been challenging, but not to the point where I want to crawl in a hole. There are also lots of study groups and mentoring groups, so the school does a great job at helping you do well in class.

    Dorm Life

I live off campus, which seems to be cheaper, and it makes studying alot easier. The upside to living on campus though would be the easy access to the library and other school-based resources.

    Food and Dining

School food- blah. Bring your lunch..you'll save your stomach and your wallet. The food is all over priced, and the cafeteria does not stay open late.

    What to do for fun

The white river/canal is right on campus, so on nice days it's great for taking walks, biking, and picnicking. There are also alot of museums and the zoo, so there's always plenty to do.
