Categories Rating Comments In three sentences llu is a great university for aspiring healthcare professionals. the university's hospital and many healthcare facilities provide students with great real-world preparation. combined with enthusiastic professors and state of the art learning facilities, it is a winning combination and a great educational investment.
Tips for prospective students admission is competitive so it helps to have a strong academic record, especially in the sciences if applying to one of the healthcare programs. having work experience and leadership skills is also a plus. llu also values faith-based service and volunteer work. individuals who are well-rounded, hardworking and have a balanced lifestyle will make successful students at llu.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor is comparable to california's best public universities (ucla, ucsd, ucsf, uc berkeley, ucsb). students study a lot but also find time to enjoy many outside-of-class activities and lead a healthy, balanced lifestyle. in fact, wholeness and a well-balanced lifestyles are one of core values of llu and professors understand that students have a life outside of academics.
Dorm Life most students commute or rent private apartments, but there are a few dorm options available. some of the dorms are on top of a hill and have a very beautiful view of loma linda. dorms are separate for males and females. married students and students with families have an option to live in apartment-style dorms. there are also many privately-owned apartments and houses available within walking distance from campus for students. when shared with roommates, this is a very affordable option ($350-500 per person/month).
Food and Dining since llu is a seventh day adventist institution, all of the food and dining options are vegetarian and healthy. there are many delicious options available in the student cafeteria and cafes on campus. the university-affiliated grocery store, loma linda market, also provides a vast selection of fresh, healthy foods and locally-grown produce. the only downside is that these establishments close around 6 or 7 pm and are not open on saturday. nearby off-campus dining options include several asian restaurants, panera bread, bj's and some fast-food chains.
What to do for fun if you like exercise and outdoors, the drayson center has state of the art athletic facilities with many fields and a very large outdoor pool with a water slide. nearby mountains offer great hiking trails and the nice weather year-round is perfect for riding bikes around the city. students with a car can also venture out to the local movie theater, shopping areas, water park, and snowy mountains during winter. orange county beaches and theme parks are an hour drive when there's no traffic. llu offers discount student tickets for nearby attractions such as six flags magic mountain, knott's berry farm, disneyland, universal studios, san diego zoo and seaworld, and many more.
Bang for the buck as for any private university, llu education is expensive but is a great investment considering that llu graduates are very competitive in securing the best-paying jobs in the healthcare and science fields after graduation. undergraduates students considering graduate schools are also very successful in gaining acceptance to top graduate schools.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the campus is rather socially-conservative, so you won't find any kind of unusual traditions, such as people running around in their underwear before finals, that you might find at other universities.
Great for these types of students religious, multicultural, health-conscious, health/service/science career-oriented, athletic, those valuing a balanced lifestyle, volunteering/service-oriented, students with families, part-time students with full-time jobs.
Clubs and Activities llu has several religious, volunteer and athletic organizations as well as many professional associations and clubs.
