Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much already in my 2 semesters at Macon State. The teachers are very helpful and obviously love what they do. I can not stop talking about how awesome this school is!
Am enjoying being here This school is great for me because I am still living at home. It is close to anywhere you would need to go between classes. I am only a short drive away so I love being able to live so close without living on campus.
Bang for the buck I would give this 10 stars if I could! The prices at Macon State couldn't be better! It was a no-brainer while I was researching schools. I can attend Macon State for a fraction of the price of nearby Mercer University. And the amazing thing is - you can't tell it's a cheap school! Your education doesn't suffer!
Tips for prospective students Buy your books early, invest in a rolling backpack, arrive early to class, and don't be afraid to visit the teachers and ask questions! The teachers are very approachable and will always make themselves available to answer questions or schedule a meeting with you.
Great for these types of students If you love being able to fit your classes around work then this is the school for you. I have two jobs so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go to school AND work, but with the help of an awesome registration assistant I was able to do it. The campus is close to pretty much everything and with the new on-campus housing and affordable tuition you can't go wrong!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I only have two classes so far and planning on receiving my other two. But I have meet my future professors and I can tell already that they are going to be quite helpful to me. And have already told me that only the brightest students aren't afraid to ask for help.
Will enjoy being here So far I have been accepted into Macon State and the faculty and staff have been over and beyond helpful to me, especially my admissions advisor. She is doing everything to make that I have a great year when I start school in the fall and I appreciate her dearly for that.
Bang for the buck Macon State is no doubt the cheapest college in the state of Georgia. Financial Aid is very helpful as well. What I thought that I was going to end up paying is 3x as smaller as I'm about to pay for now. I'm so glad that I am going here.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to be a pest when it comes to classes and financial aid. The more they notice that you're serious about those things, the more they will tend to help you out. I have called many times about my application and now I call for my financial aid. You may think that they are getting tired of you but you have to remember.. This is what they get paid for helping us. So don't be afraid to be the one who is at class five minutes early and the one who stays after to get a better understanding of what was discussed in the session.
Great for these types of students Macon State is the college for students who do not want a so big atmosphere. The class sizes are just like your everyday high school class. Great campus and friendly people. They welcome you with open arms and protect you as if you are their personal family. MSC is the place to be for any college beginner.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot In my two years here, I have had the best professors. They keep class interesting and fun. I have learned valuable information that will stay with me forever.
Am enjoying being here I love the atmosphere at Macon State. I grew up at a small school, so MSC is the perfect size for me. I've made great friends, and enjoy hanging out with them between classes. I live at home, so I enjoy that the school is close enough that I can live at home and save money!
Bang for the buck Macon State is very affordable, and you feel like you're getting the good education you're paying for. It's not an easy school, and I like that I'm paying less but still getting challenged in my classes.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get to class early to find a parking spot. Don't be afraid to go talk to professors during office hours, they'll give you wonderful advice! Try and get to know your professors one-on-one so that if you need recommendation letters or forms in the future, you can go back and ask them to write for you.
Great for these types of students The school is great for working around work schedules. I have an afternoon job, so the morning classes are perfect for me. I also like not having classes on Fridays so that I have one day of the week to just chill. I usually use Fridays to catch up on housework I've neglected so I could do homework.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Professors are very helpful. If I am having trouble in a class, I can get a tutor or talk with my professor during their office hours. The professors want people to be successful and they want students to reach their goals.
Am enjoying being here Everyone in Macon State are friendly and they give you tips on what classes you should take for your profession. I live in the Residence Life and it is wonderful. Other colleges have freshman sleeping in traditional dorms, but in Macon State you can live in a apartment. I have my own room and bathroom it is a great place to live in.
Bang for the buck The tuition is great here. The financial aid can help you with any problems you may have. Emergency loans are given if you do not have the money right away.
Tips for prospective students Attend every class; it is good to start at a small college than a university because at a small college you can get the one on one relationship with your professor. At a university, you are only a number. Students that are coming to college right after high school should start off small, then work your way to the top.
Great for these types of students I think that Macon is great for people in a 2 year program. By the time you finish, you should be ready to go to a University.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The school is a great opportunity to experience the college life without killing your bank account. I recommend attending the college if you want to get the feel of college without spending a lot of money. It is definitely not an easy college.
Tips for prospective students My advice is to keep up with your work and study hard.
Academic Rigor some classes are hard but as long as you study and ask questions you will be ok.
Dorm Life the dorms are nice, they look just like apartments.
Food and Dining the food is ok. nothing to brag about
What to do for fun there are clubs and activities you can do on campus
Bang for the buck you definitely get a great bang for your buck.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a great college in the past, but has since fallen on hard times. following some bad decisions on budget allocation the college has since fallen far. most of the teachers are foreign and the vast majority of the students have extensive complaints about it.
Tips for prospective students great for you associates degree, but the current administration has turned it into a college you will not want to attend for very long. the college has fallen far, so i recommend you get in, get your associates and leave as soon as you can.
Academic Rigor extremely easy to get in to, and widely renown throughout the state as being one of the hardest colleges to remain in. the professors are very low quality and care little for their students. the work is hard, ambiguous, and teaches little for those not attending for a medical degree. i would only recommend attending for a 2-year degree and then transferring out.
Dorm Life dorms are okay. there is an ra in every complex. each of the complexes has three levels with four apartments on each level, each apartment has four small bedrooms with private bathrooms in each one and a public common area for its four residents. the apartments are low-mid quality, but the privacy you get by having your own room makes up for it. it is also quiet and overall was a nice place to live.
Food and Dining food is okay. they serve sushi, burgers and all the typical food. there is a cafeteria with ample dining space. prices range from two dollars for a small item to eight or nine dollars for a full meal, so it is not hard on your wallet. the staff are also very nice, but are slow to start up in the morning. overall very well.
What to do for fun the college is located on a street called eisenhower parkway. about a mile away there is the presidential shopping center and that is about it. presidential has multiple grocery stores, retail stores and the like but not much for fun. ten miles up i-475 is zebulon road (exit 9), where there is more to do if you know where to look. ten miles east is the city's main shopping center, riverside drive. you can do just about anything here, but is a 20 minute drive from the college. downtown macon is equally far away. overall a very fun city.
Bang for the buck an excellent bang for you buck for your associates degree only. i have the displeasure of finishing my third year here before transferring out for my fourth and final year. students who attend here longer than two years feel like they are on a treadmill for sorts. after the two year classes the college loses quality and you feel like you are being farmed for your money. the associates programs are very good, just transfer out after that.
the college has fallen on hard times. shortly before investing in a new, enormous, glass-sided building, buying the apartment complex across the street for use as dorms, doubling the size of the artificial lake and expanding the parking lot, the dean/president resigned, tuition was hiked and the college was hit with a $5 million budget cut. people who have been here for a while can feel as if the college is spread too thin, and overall the college really has gone downhill.Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus no unusual traditions or locations.
Great for these types of students associates degree seeking students who wish to transfer out to complete higher learning.
Clubs and Activities plenty if you know where to look.
Greek Life none.
Campus Safety the campus police protect the college but are known for being rude. they are not oppressive in the least, but their parking system could be more merciful. nevertheless the campus is safe and secure despite being located near to a bad part of town.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have only been at Macon State for a few weeks so far, but the classes have been great. This is the third college I have transferred to, and I think it is the last. Middle Georgia was too small and there was nothing to do outside of school. Valdosta State was a nice campus, but there were too many people, and the teachers did not know my name.
Am enjoying being here So far, so good! I have met so many people in the few weeks since school started this semester. The teachers seem interested in getting to know everyones name. It is easy to get around and find my classes.
Bang for the buck College is expensive no matter where you go. HOPE helps a lot!
Tips for prospective students Even though Macon State is easy to get in to, their science program is hard.
Great for these types of students I think it is a great place for friendly people who enjoy a medium sized town with a medium sized college.

Bang for the buck Macon State college is one of the most reasonably priced schools in the area. I would rate them a 4 out of 5 stars as being price for those who need help paying for school.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The most unusual location on campus is the lake located behind the main teaching buildings. We have ducks, geese, and a host of other birds that love it here.
Great for these types of students Macon State is a great school for those nontraditional type of students that work full time jobs, have families, or other obligations, that require odd times for them to complete school.
Clubs and Activities There are many cluds on campus and each school is ready to offer choices that will help students as there degree is set in stone.
Greek Life The school does not have any at this time but as the college becomes a university, i'm sure that will change as the dynamics of the college scene will change.
Campus Safety The school has an on campus security and police force for public and student safety. It also has cameras in all buildings and parking lots.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I have been attending Macon State College for a few years and I truly respect the methods in which the professors teach. I have always had very positive and consistent experience compared to my other college explorations. This college is wonderful, it's growing so fast and has excellent programs and a fully trained staff.
Academic Rigor I truly strive to have the best grades as long as I'm attending school. I realize that having good grades can only benefit in the long run. All of my professors seem to really care to assist the students in achieving the most possible.
Dorm Life I do not live on the campus, this school only has apartments, but I live at home and commute everyday. But I've heard that the living experience is nice for those who live there.
Food and Dining Macon State has a wonderful cafeteria for breakfast, lunch, etc. Sometimes they offer snacks on special occasions, like final exam days, just to give students a little extra fuel for testing.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences excellent college that offers broad range and amount of degrees. they have an excellent campus that is easily accessible and beautiful. most importantly, it is a quality education that is affordable !!
Tips for prospective students i think the most important advice i could offer is to get in with an advisor even if you think you're on track and register early and maintain an open relationship with them while enrolled !!! the advisors at msc are excellent and have really helped me out. i spent my first year and half avoiding them because i did not want to be told how and when to schedule, haha, biggest mistake i made. once i got on track with them, my college experience has been far better and mush less stressful and i am now positive i am on track and working towards my degree at the best rate possible.
Academic Rigor the courses offered are very broad. there is so many different classes and professors to choose from in each class or subject which makes it easy to work around a schedule if you have one. the difficulty depends on the professor and the personal amount of work you put in as i'm sure it does at all colleges. so far i have been able to maintain an a/b average and completion in each class while working full time. however, i did spend a lot of my free time outside of work studying. regardless, the courses offered and the professors are extensive and there is tons of help on campus for every subject to make sure you achieve.
Dorm Life i have not lived in our dorms since i am a local resident. they have just started to begin offering this option since they purchased a local apartment complex.if i were not already living here, i would definitely consider this option. the area is right across the street from the college which would be super convenient for those worried about transportation. on the outside it appears to be clean and well maintained. our school also offers help with affording the living costs and they offer meal plans in our cafeteria which has excellent food and affordable prices. i have friends that have chosen to live here even though they are local just to be able to get out of there parents home to have some independency and enjoy a full college experience without being to far away from home. seems to be a great offer from the college.
Food and Dining the cafeteria food they offer is excellent. they are clean, fast paced, and reasonably priced making it an excellent choice for me while i am on campus and do not have time to go elsewhere for a meal or snack. we also have several coffee shops that offer starbucks products and snacks. they even have sushi which is my favorite since it is a great price for the amount. you can also bring your own water bottle or snack to pair with this to make it even cheaper. i love our food options on campus. they even offer meal plans regardless of whether you live on or off campus which allows you to have an even more discounted price. my only wish is that we could have a chickfila on campus. wouldn't that just be wonderful, haha.
What to do for fun oh wow, alot. this year especially they have really begun to offer a large variety of options to keep students active on campus in and out of classes. they offer a free wellness membership with an active id. my favorite offer is the free classes that they offer at the gym. they will be building a new facility soon that will be amazingggg !! they have a variety of sports offered: softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, tennis, flag football, rugby, etc. they are currently only club teams but they do travel to other schools and host games locally. they also have random social events like ice cream socials, cookouts, movies, contest, trips, etc nearly every week. there is also tons of student organizations you can become involved in.
Bang for the buck after researching other options, i have found that msc is the most affordable school in town for the level of degree and reputability the school offers.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus none that i am aware of.
Great for these types of students all students.
Clubs and Activities as stated for things to do for fun, they have a variety of sports offered: softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, tennis, flag football, rugby, etc. they are currently only club teams but they do travel to other schools and host games locally. they also have random social events like ice cream socials, cookouts, movies, contest, etc nearly every week. there is also tons of student organizations you can become involved in.
Greek Life unknown, i have never researched this for our school, but i am positive more information can be found on their website under student organizations.
Campus Safety our campus security is unlike any other security i have ever seen. we have actual campus police on site that are always visible and on patrol. i have taken very late night classes in which the campus was pretty much empty and i have never felt worried about my safety. the campus police are extremely polite, friendly, and helpful

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences macon state college looks like a really great school. the campus is beautiful and i can't wait to hopefully relocate here. the environment looks friendly and peaceful.
Tips for prospective students i'm guessing it's just like every other school. ask for help when needed. go to class. try your best!
Dorm Life haven't been to the dorms. but i hear they're pretty good.
Food and Dining haven't tasted the food yet...
Bang for the buck from what i hear macon state is pretty inexpensive. for me being an out-of-state student it still isn't so expensive. after financial aid i should not be paying much :)
Great for these types of students this school is for students who like a small college feel. don't want to be numbers at a college, but a person with a name. friendly, hardworking students who want a serious education.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot In my Engineering specific courses I learned a lot and had great teachers that were equivalent to those that I had at Mercer. In most core classes however, I was very bored and felt like I was wasting my time. In some cases, I felt like I could have taught all of the material in the class, but testing did not make much sense. Once you are past core classes, everything goes a lot better.
Did enjoy being here It is really hard to make friends at this school since most students commute. Most will show up and leave and you won't hear a peep out of them until you get into your major areas. Some advisors don't seem to care enough to try and help you while others cater to your immediate needs. Luckily, it is your choice who actually ends up advising you.
Bang for the buck If you get the hope scholarship along with any other sort of scholarship or grant, then you pretty much get paid to go to school here. The sad part is that this school runs into a lot of problems with people enrolling in classes for this reason and then dropping them after they get their financial aid money.
Tips for prospective students Try your best to make friends early on. If it doesn't work, then stick through it. Once you are past your core classes, you will have smaller class sizes and it is much easier to connect with people who are pursuing similar degrees to yours. Apply for this college no matter what in order to get scholarship opportunities that could end up paying you to go to college. If you plan on going to larger schools, finish all of your core classes here and then pay the big bucks later when you go to that well thought of school.
Great for these types of students Smart enough to wait to go to the big colleges until knocking out the smaller stuff, not prepared to go to a bigger college, interested in a 2 year degree to get you started, local students who plan on saving money by living at home for a few semesters.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Macon State is a college that provides a high quality education at an affordable price. It seems to me that oftentimes those who come to Macon State from other institutions are quite shocked at what is expected of them at Macon State. Some people seem to believe that MSC will provide them an easy ride and become unhappy when they learn how tough the college is and what a great education people get at Macon State at a fraction of the cost of going to other private institutions in the area. This is definitely not the case. MSC is a college for serious students who are seriously interested in getting a serious education.
