    Am learning a lot

Several teachers teach from the course textbook, but also draw from their own experiences and other media/texts. Miami gives a well-rounded education because they stress that non academic activities are important, too. Learning comes from the classroom, but more importantly, I believe, outside of the classroom. There are many lectures, performances, art shows each week to further the education you can get from Miami.

    Am enjoying being here

I am on the fence about my experiences at Miami. I think Miami is an exceptional school. I let myself get away from getting involved on campus for my entire freshman year. I wasn't involved in much and I spent most of my free time being bored. There are hundreds of clubs and organizations that students can join, it's just finding the right group that is key. If I would have joined the groups that I considered joining my first year experience would have been much more enjoyable.

    Bang for the buck

Prices at Miami seem fairly reasonable in terms of tuition. The bookstores' merchandise is overpriced. Shows and performances are at no cost or at a low price. Sports' events are free to students. On-campus restaurants are pricey but can be paid for with meal plan.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Free time can get boring after a few weeks, there is little to do if you're not into partying.
    2. Make sure you'll use your book before you buy it (often, you don't need to purchase books for the first couple of days). I've bought a few books in the past that I never needed. If you do buy it and decide you don't need it, return it within a week and you'll get a better price than you would if you waited. Also, make sure you get the correct edition.
    3. Come early on move-in day, it gets hectic later in the day. Save your trip to Wal-Mart until the day after move-in because that gets very busy as well.
    4. Don't forget an umbrella, rainboots, and snowboots.
    5. You have to live on campus for the first 2 years, so be prepared to live in a dorm for that long. Becoming an RA (resident assistant) is a great idea for sophomores since you're there anyway, might as well make some money and the job isn't too demanding.
    6. Get involved.

Great for these types of students

Athletes : Miami is highly school-spirited, it seems as though everyone goes to athletic events to cheer on their team.
Students who plan to go to graduate school : Miami is a highly respected and prestigious university, graduate school admissions are often impressed. Miami also has a wonderful graduate program itself.
Students who would like to join a sorority or fraternity : Greek life is big at Miami, there are several options for males and females.
Christians : There are many Christian organizations including Christian sororities, there are 2 Churches on campus and a few that are in walking distance.

    Am learning a lot

In my experience, the professors at Miami are passionate about their topics and really want the students to do well. Professors are readily available outside of class and eager to help the student learn. Students are heavily encouraged to be more than just students. Although the curriculum is challenging, it opened my mind to new ideas, concepts, and perspectives.

    Am enjoying being here

The students here are very friendly, fun, and easy to get along with. There are a wide range of students activities and clubs, so it is easy to find something that caters to your interests. Oxford is a small town setting, but it is an ideal college town, if that is what you are looking for. The campus itself is very beautiful.

    Bang for the buck

As an out-of-state student, the tuition was a little steeper than I would have liked, but it is not ridiculously expensive. In-state tuition is more affordable. As far as financial aid is concerned, I would classify Miami as middle of the pack.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Bringing a bike might be a good idea as it makes going uptown or even traveling to class more manageable.
    2. Get involved early on--there are numerous organizations and clubs and it is a great way to meet people.
    3. Explore the beautiful and scenic Ohio landscape surrounding the campus.
    4. Don't expect a lot from the town--the university is the town.

Great for these types of students

Students here are strikingly similar. There is a reason Miami is labeled J. Crew U. Almost all are upper-middle class and affluent, and a high percentage of the student population is caucasian. However, students are typically well-rounded, generally show support for Miami athletics, friendly and open-minded. I think anyone could fit in here.

    Am learning a lot

The professors here have great qualifications to be teaching, and prove it by helping me learn a lot. There have been many situations where i was not certain what exactly I was supposed to be learning, but the professor would always take the time to teach me, and help me understand what I actually needed to be learning.

    Am enjoying being here

Miami serves as an excellent place to form social bonds, and also creates an atmosphere where school isn't really that bad. While some kids may have an attitude where they think they are better than others, most of the students here are very friendly and make being here enjoyable. Also, the smaller campus makes it easy to meet a lot of new people which is very important to enjoy being in college.

    Bang for the buck

Miami certainly has a big bang for the buck. Some may complain about a higher tuition, but you really are getting what you pay for. Being apart of the business portion of Miami, I am given the opportunity to be looked at first for career recruitment due to Miami's high reputation. Like some people say, Miami is the Ivy league public school. You are required to take classes with all back grounds in order to make you a well rounded, knowledgeable citizen. Also, your money is going towards great living conditions, and the food is great. On top of that, the amount of extracurricular activities really provides even more bang for Miami. Miami really does have a big bang for the buck.

    Tips for prospective students

I would suggest that prospective students make sure they practice good study habits. Coming into college most grades are only tests and quizzes so you really have to make sure you can study correctly.
Also, I would recommend saving up as much money as possible so you have one less thing to stress about, and possibly get into an argument about with the parents. This problem can also be solved by getting an on-campus job, which I highly recommend.

Great for these types of students

Miami is great for people who love to do sports and other extracurricular activities. As I said before there are endless opportunities to join club sports, varsity sports, or any other activity you could possibly think of.
Maimi is also a good fit for hard working students. Miami offers classes that really challenge you if you want them to. On the other hand there are always easier classes to take if you are a little intimidated by the experience.
Social people will really find a home at Miami. With all the sororities and fraternities on campus it is easy to meet new people and get in with a large group. If you don't like that kind of atmosphere there are many other opportunities to be social with your fellow peers.

This is an incredible institution. No one is a number at Miami, all professors (yes, PROFESSORS!) take their student's education as a priority. Classrooms are interactive, and learning is not limited by lecture based teaching. Educators do not stand for laziness. If you're at MU, you're here to learn.

    Am enjoying being here

Miami is a beautiful and friendly place. Even though it is a larger school, a community connection is made at Miami because of Living-Learning communities, and the outgoing students. I've made really good friends through classes, and we enjoy hanging out on the weekends, eating toasted rolls, and eating tuffy's ice cream. Miami is a magical place.

    Bang for the buck

It's worth it. What matters at miami is YOUR education. Why do you go to school? To learn. (Or that's why you're suppose to attend institutions of higher learning.) Students are offered a great range of classes per semester, and many valuable resources. I probably cannot count how many advisors I have on one hand! (And the food is fantastic.)

    Tips for prospective students

If possible, attend an overnighter. It's the best way to judge the climate of a school. Visit with teachers, department heads, etc, but more importantly, talk to students (without faculty in hearing range). Imagine yourself there. Could you sit in King Library? Would you enjoy doing your homework outside, can you see yourself standing in line for an intense hockey game?

And, always keep your education in mind. What are your goals? And what resources are available to you to achieve them.

Great for these types of students

Anyone who loves to learn, and can take a challenge. Miami is often stereotyped as J-Crew U!, sperry's, northface, and Greek Life. However this is not true. (but it is a stereotype for a reason.) Although there is a prominent Greek Life, it does not interfere with other students, and rush does not commence until second semester. (So don't fear.)

But Miami is definitely a place to achieve. If you wish to get a degree, go online. Don't waste time here, because the faculty and students here CARE.

I am learning so much at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. This school is a top-notch one-of-a-kind school. The professors are nice, have office hours and are more than willing to help you out. I am learning so much!!

    Am enjoying being here

THIS PLACE ROCKS! The parties are fun! This is, however, a party town and a college town. So you do have to have discretion with regards to studying. I commute 40 minutes away, and much goes to gas, but I just love getting out of the house knowing I am going to have fun while learning!!!

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is fairly high compared to its competitors, but for the money, you cannot put a price on a good education. If you could, Miami's would be the best value out there. At Miami, you can be offered great scholarships which help lower the cost! The bang for your buck is great! Definitely worth every penny I have spent!

    Tips for prospective students

1: GET ACTIVE!! Miami offers soo many clubs and extracurricular activities it's insane! I did not know about broomball before coming here, but it's so much fun! Learn through clubs!
2: Go to office hours! If you do end up going to this college, take my advice and go to the professor's office hours; they really help!
3: Get a smartphone and a MacBook. You want to keep in touch in style ;)
4: If you're commuting, get to the commuter center: we watch movies, hang out, chill and just play games. Great place to chill. If you're planning on living here, be active! Run and workout. Use the facilities provided! Play racquetball!
5: Take a tour! This campus is the best for scenery! Fall tours are the best!
Be proactive and learn from the students already here. We love to talk to others and people who are considering Miami. The good part for Miami is that it gets free marketing from us students! WE LOVE MIAMI!

Great for these types of students

Studious ones, fun ones, lonely ones, and any other type! Miami is so versatile and makes adapting to college life easy. I was really hesitant while going in my first day. I was shaking in the car!! As soon as I stepped out into the college life that first day, I noticed every other student was going throught the first day jitters. It happens, but after I talked to other students about their life, I was much more comfortable! Miami is THE place to be if you are nervous about college, want to have a good time, looking for a rocking awesome party or just want to study and get on the Dean's list! Miami is the college that literally offers something for everybody.

Miami University not only helps one to learn a lot academically but helps also in learning essential life skills. Besides the excellent academic curriculum Miami University also helps its students with skills such as time management and creating a resume. Miami teaches one to work in many different environments with many different people. I have personally learned how to efficiently use my free time and have conquered the art of studying.

    Am enjoying being here

I most certainly enjoy being on Miami University's campus. From the beautiful flowers and architecture to the friends and faculty, Miami offers so many things to enjoy. The University has facilities that many schools would dream of having, like its spacious swimming pool and ice skating rink. Miami University is also close to Uptown, which is an area filled with many shops and restaurants. Uptown is constantly filled with students enjoying its shops and restaurants. The dorm rooms are not as small as I've seen at other Universities. With a little TLC they feel just like home. The dorms and halls are kept exceptionally clean by an exceptional cleaning staff. What I most enjoy about Miami is the friends that I have made. Many people see Miami as a very preppy, predominately white school. Although much of that could be true when one truely looks into the University and meets people they would realize that even though many students might dress or look similarly, one will still find an exceptional array of different personalities all over the campus. My group of friends holds an array of different skin tones, cultural back grounds and personalities. My closest friend at the University is from Guatemala. This just goes to shoe that Miami has more to offer than what is seen on the surface and that is why I enjoy being there.

    Bang for the buck

Miami has so many facilities such as its ice skating rink, pool, and its gym. Students also get free admission to events in those facilities, not to mention the delicious dishes prepared for students right here on campus. There are so many things offered that the tuition of the university is often shocking. When all those facilities are factored into the tuition it is often wondered how the price could be so low. It is most definitely a bang for the buck.

    Tips for prospective students

Thinking about going to Miami? You won't want to pass up the opportunity. The administration and staff are so kind and welcoming. If you do bring a bicycle (I have one and find it very handy) make sure to lock it securely no matter what. They are often preyed on by the bikeless. Also the food is delicious, but don't get carried away or you won't fit your pants by second semester. Get involved to meet people who are interested in the same things you are. Its a great way to do things you love and make long lasting friendships.

Great for these types of students

Miami has everything anyone could ask for. I am involved in so many different things. I'm involved with Miami's radio station as well as theatre and choir. This coming semester I have even decided to participate in Tae Kwon Doh. There is so much to get involved any student could potentially like the university.

    Am learning a lot

While at Miami, I have learned so much, both about myself and about the world in general. Previously I had little to no experience with being on my own, and Oxford's college-town environment is perfect for learning and growing. Everything is very personal and familiar, but without being boring or restricting. In addition, my professors know their subject matter well and are eager to help me when I come to them after class or during office hours. They genuinely want to be here and want to teach, so they are better able to make the classes enjoyable. Their enthusiasm spreads to students and makes for an excellent atmosphere.

    Am enjoying being here

Miami is both challenging and fun. In my Statistics class, I was pushed nearly to breaking point every morning. I think my professor joking around and making the class lighter and more student-friendly was the only thing that brought me back each day. There are also many enjoyable, but still stimulating courses that students can take outside of their field of study. I took a social dance class and loved every minute of it. I've always wanted to learn ballroom dancing, and Miami gave me the perfect opportunity. There are countless clubs, organizations, sports, and electives for students trying to find their niche. Whether your passion is people, places, things, or thoughts, you will be able to find your place here at Miami. You may have to seek a little, though.

    Bang for the buck

Miami isn't cheap, but it's also not one of the most expensive schools on the market. It's a public institution. And considering how prestigious Miami is - arguably the best public university in the state of Ohio - the experience is well worth the expense. Home sporting events are free to Miami students, which is invaluable by itself during hockey season; free or inexpensive events are held frequently, including concerts, lectures, and events held by the Residence Hall Association; and, although some of the dining options can get pricey, they are covered by your meal plan. Also, any credit that's left on the meal plan at the end of the year (as long as you're not a senior) is put onto your MUlaa account, which can be put toward text books, laundry, or other on-campus expenses.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. When scheduling classes, don't make any assumptions or take anything for granted. Check the availability of classes. Also, the grade distributions from past semesters can be found on the Miami web site.
    2. There may be times when a professor will not use a textbook at all in a course. Waiting a couple of days before buying books, or asking a professor can save you money that would otherwise be wasted on a 500 page paperweight.
    3. If you have spare time, feel free to join a club. But if you don't, DON'T! There are a lot of great opportunities for networking and meeting people here at Miami, but they will be around every semester. Meeting people is inevitable. You won't have to work too hard at it. Just be friendly and keep an open mind.
    4. Go to office hours if you need help. And don't be afraid to look clueless. Better now than at Finals. Sometimes you just need to say, I'm completely lost. Can you go over this again?.
    5. Try to relax! Half of my problem was that I never gave my brain a chance to slow down. If you get yourself too worked up, you can have trouble sleeping or even make yourself sick. Then you'll be even more behind. It's a cycle. Break it!

Great for these types of students

Confident: There are a ton of networking possibilities and student-run organizations. Active students can really branch out here if they're interested. Student government, study abroad, Greek life, and internships are only the beginning.
Shy: Miami is a great place to grow and develop as a person. You can really start to come out of your shell without going hog wild. Don't let the party scene scare you off. There are a number of ways you can meet people and have fun without taking a giant leap outside of your comfort zone.
Athletic: Redhawk sports are always a big deal. Whether you're interested in club sports or intramural sports, there is something for everyone. The Rec is amazing, and Goggin Ice Center has a lot to offer.
Christian: There are several Christian groups and Bible studies that meet on campus. There are churches on and off of campus as well. I didn't get involved in Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) until later in the semester, but I'm glad that I did. I found that people I already had met in several of my classes were active in Cru. There are events almost every day of the week and it's not overwhelming for those who are just trying it on for size.

All of the professors are very approachable after class and before, along with office hours they hold. If you aren't grasping a section well or just lost in general they work their best to help explain the subects. Review sessions taught by other students who have taken the class before are also available for free and can allow for another explination from someone other then a professor. I found this usefull when the method my professor used was not making sense to me. Miami has plenty of resourses such as the writing centers located in the new Farmer School of Business and King library.

    Am enjoying being here

Although Miami University has the nickname J-Crew U for its preppy appearal i have found that its not that prominant. There are still girls and guys that go to classes in pj's and in sweats. Although their is a good amount of people who dress up there are twice as many who don't. If you want to party there is always the option (just like any college you choose) however i feel that it isn't as focused on like at some other universities. There is always something to do! The rec is really nice and uptown is always a nice place to chill with friends. All the dorms also have nice common areas which are great for meeting people, especially at the begining of the year.

    Bang for the buck

Miami has a great learning program that really does focus on the students. The food is AMAZING and the dorms are kept in great shape along with the bathrooms. The campus is beautiful and has a nice green and lively atmosphere.

    Tips for prospective students

Study! don't let the glamour of Miami keep you from your studies! although uptown is fun don't go too much or your bank account will deplete quickly. Bring christmas lights for your room in the winter months! Comfortable shoes are a must. Some Classes can be a good 15 minute walk although by bike your time could be cut in half with ease. Enjoy your time here! my first semester has gone by way to quickly! Get involved with school activities their are plenty to choose from and its a great way to meet new people.

Great for these types of students

All students! there are many diffrent types of people that i have met while at Miami and all have enjoyed their time here.

    In three sentences

Miami University is a great mid-sized university for academics and social life. There are various organizations students can join and activities provided by the school to participate in. Big companies are always here recruiting, so there are many opportunities to find an internship or a job.

    Tips for prospective students

Step out of your comfort zone and try new things. It never hurts to expand your network, it can only help. Make sure you are organized and manage your time well.

    Academic Rigor

Classes are fun while it teaches you to think critically and outside of the box. Every class pushes you to work your fullest potential. The professors at Miami University expects the best from each student and will make sure each student is learning.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life has much to offer from making new friends, expanding your network, and to providing a decent place to live while at Miami. Other students are always there to help or entertain. They respect others' cultures so it's always friendly.

    Food and Dining

Food at Miami is definitely a plus. There are many dining halls around which offer various foods from different pastas, Asian foods, south of the border foods, and more. Prices for on campus students are a good price with the student discount they receive.

    What to do for fun

There are many organizations offered at Miami. Within the campus, there is a 18-hole Frisbee-golf course which is free for everyone. In addition, there are many different types of sports to play not only on varsity level, but also intramural leagues.

    Bang for the buck

Great education for the money. On average, it costs about $50 per class. While paying the tuition, there's also the rec center, intramural leagues, dorm life, and organizations.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

In the middle of campus, there is a seal on the ground, and it is said, if someone steps on it, they will fail their next exam. Also, there's a sundial with turtles and if you kiss the turtles' heads, it's good luck. Lastly, a kiss with your partner under the Upham arch at midnight, they are going to get married in the future.

    Clubs and Activities

There are uncountable amounts of clubs and activities Miami has to offer. From ethnic groups to Greek life, every student will find a club they can fit in.

    Greek Life

Miami University, also known as the Mother of Fraternities. Miami is known to have started a handful of national fraternities. All the fraternities and sororities always have joint events.

    Campus Safety

Campus is pretty safe. There are the city police and campus police patrolling and is well lit. A couple buses run late night also.

Miami University is absolutely amazing!! I am a freshman here and all of the professors are truly here for you and want you to succeed. I am in the architecture program and have been challenged, but have been really successful in my studies as well as being a well rounded student. Each professor has office hours every day and has hours online each night where you can chat them to ask any questions you may have on an assignment. Miami is a mid-sized school with approximately 16,000 students, but classes will range from 20-90, which offers plenty of time for questions during class. Professors try to make themselves available as much as they can and will do everything in their power to to e-mail you back quickly, grade your papers and meet with you. If for some bizarre reason a professor is not available there are libraries you can go to, a writing center and there are free tutors! I have also learned some life lessons from how to do laundry, use a humidifier and clean to managing time between homework, clubs and having fun!

    Am enjoying being here

Miami's campus is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It has amazing architecture and an amazing landscape filled with nature. I was not so excited about coming to Miami because of the stereotype of Miami being a preppy, all-white, all-Greek school but have found that to be completely false. I have met students from China and Fiji so far and have found myself surrounded by so many kind and caring people. One thing that I love about Miami is that you can walk up to anyone on campus and ask them a question and they are happy to help you and you don't even need to use a map to go anywhere- just ask students!

    Bang for the buck

Miami University is a great institution for any of the programs you decide to go into and is very well rounded. Though tuition is a little bit higher than others, you have the opportunity to experience the wonderful rec center equipped with many basketball courts, a track, workout equipment, tons of weights and an amazing pool, jacuzzi and rock climbing wall for free. You also can attend any of the sporting events for free and are always accumulating extra t-shirts and stuff (less laundry you have to do). There are events on the weekends you can go to for free that give out food and show movies, there is swing dancing, you can horseback ride, rollerblade, ice skate- be involved in really anything you'd like! There are also free massages that I enjoyed during finals week! There is an uptown area that is where all of Miami's students go and you run into so many people from classes and around campus. There are also places on campus that offer free printing so it's not necessary to bring a printer and buy ink and paper. There are concerts frequently, highlighter parties, battle of the bands and this past semester Girl Talk and Justin Moore came to Miami. There are amazing places you can study from the great outdoors to our amazing libraries with Starbucks inside of them! Dorm rooms are larger than most universities and you have plenty of room (for a dorm at least). All of our bathrooms and dining areas are cleaned three to for times a day including the dorms and very rarely is there trash! All of the food that you eat is fresh and you have endless choices from sushi to smoothies, burgers, pizza, fresh salad- everything! If you have a food allergy you can just e-mail a chef what you would like, what time you would like it at and where and they will make sure it's there. There is food uptown as well as all you can eat dining halls and markets on campus that link to your meal plan. There are places open 24-7 and delivery to your dorm room that is included in your meal plan as well. You can make your own food if you choose in the kitchen every dorm has equipped with ovens, microwaves, toasters and extra refrigerator space, or you can visit any of these places! There are also restaraunts right next to most dining halls that also link to your meal plan and serve delicious foods!

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Don't be afraid to meet new people- everyone is nice at Miami! :)
    2. Get involved in campus activities- there is everything from skydiving, to adventure club, Greek life, Religious organizations, art, music groups, theatre, sports teams and sports clubs, movie clubs, dancing, art- you name it, we got it!
    3. Select a Living-Learning community based on YOUR interests- these are different groups that you can choose to live with people who have interests in common with you and they become great friends!
    4. Stay in touch with your religious life- find a youth group!
    5. Sleep! You can get really sick if you don't get enough of it!
    6. Eat Well! Eat more than just the delicious cookie cakes!
    7. Bring a bike
    8. Make sure to have a good raincoat, rain boots, snow boots and an umbrella- you will use them!
    9. Don't be afraid not to hang out or room with your best friend from high school and try to branch out- it may be hard to believe but you can actually make better friends!
    10. Explore! There are so many opportunities and new experiences so don't be afraid to do what you want!
    11. GO TO A HOCKEY GAME!!

Great for these types of students

Miami is great for everyone! If you want to party- there are parties 24/7 at Miami, if you want to become involved in Greek life-it's great, if you want to play a sport there are team sports and clubs, there is a club for every language possible, dancing, horseback riding, culinary clubs, skydiving, adventure clubs, and religious organizations! There are great places to study and there are quiet rooms as well available in the libraries and you can also get a cup of starbucks if you feel like it! Honestly, I have not talked to anyone on campus who is having a terrible time at Miami and there are endless things to be involved in. If you want to create a club- it's an option and students are very supportive of each other so people will join!

Miami falls just behind Princeton in faculty concern for students and it is really evident! Miami's professors are absolutely fantastic and really care about the students that they are teaching. All of the professors I have encountered are more than willing to meet with students outside of class time to really ensure that they don't fall behind.

Oxford is a fantastic location for Miami University! With the 16,000 undergraduate students on campus, there is always a plethora of activities to engage in and opportunities to get involved with student life. Although Miami is considered a mid-sized university, the campus feels much smaller.

    Bang for the buck

Miami is top-ranked in many different areas of academic life as well as student life. Miami has a wonderful athletic atmosphere and an entertaining uptown atmosphere, making Miami and Oxford a total package. Although Miami is the most expensive state school, the treatment students receive and the national recognition of being a Redhawk is comprable to an Ivy League or private university.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students should know that Miami's campus is absolutely stunning. It is a mid-sized school that allows students to get involved and become exactly who they want to be!

Great for these types of students

Miami is ideal for students who are involved in their high schools. With its numerous clubs and organizations, there is something for everyone on Miami's campus. Miami is a vey prestigious university and provides a challenging academic repertoire, so it should be taken seriously.

I am learning a lot, the teachers are generally nice and the Miami Plan classes are usually easy. Just come to all of the classes and study hard and you will do well! Be sure to do all of the assigned readings as well.

I love it at Miami University! I love the beautiful campus and everyone here is very nice and will say hi to you. The staff of the dorms are friendly and teachers are usually willing to get to know you!

    Bang for the buck

Miami is a great college if you are in state, it is beautiful, safe and worth the money for colleges being so expensive. However, I do wish it was a little cheaper!

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you always go to class- if you are sick, let your professor know! Do all of the assigned readings on time or it will come back to bite you. Keep your partying to the weekends, however tempting Thirsty Thursday may sound- if you wait till Friday your GPA will go up tremendously!

Great for these types of students

Students who went to suburban schools or students who are willing for a challenge academically. Also students who like to socialize as greek life is a big thing at Miami. Students who like the big college with the small town feel.

Miami has amazingly dedicated professors and staff members. When one staff member found out that I was interested in attending Miami, she immediately asked if there was anything she could do to help. She set up a tour for me--including a class to sit in on, breakfast with a current student, and meeting several professors. Classwork is challenging and interesting. It requires a lot of work and time management, but gives you a well-rounded understanding.

    Am enjoying being here

Yes, yes, yes!! I love the campus, the people and the classes. It is hard work, but a wonderful environment for living and learning.

    Bang for the buck

It is expensive, but I think it's worth it. Miami provides quality education and a beautiful campus to call home.

    Tips for prospective students

Come visit! Visiting truly allows you to get a feel for Miami's campus and see the school for what it is. Remember to apply for scholarships, too.

Great for these types of students

    Tips for prospective students

Miami is in a small town, but there is plenty to do-you just have to find it! Don't complain-there are parks nearby, plays, movies, clubs, sports games, and concerts, etc. Look for classes you would like taking as a part of your Miami Plan requirements to make it more enjoyable. There are also lots of resources to help you-I know, you hear that a lot, but seriously, I was in my second semester of french and got a tutor (for free, btw), so I ended up with a B, instead of something lower! Also, going greek is really popular at Miami-don't feel pressured to just because other people are-try to get involved in things that YOU really want to be a part of! :)

Great for these types of students

-Athletic: Miami is really known for hockey, but overall Miami is a really school-spirited school.
-Studious: Miami has a reputation for being well worth the cost in terms of education gained, and has a fantastic undergraduate program.

Miami University is a campus which places a large emphasis on personal growth. Professors and peers are here to help, but only if you take the first steps to help yourself. It is also a campus which is rich in history.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared for classes and a busy/hectic work load! There's so many things to do that it is easy to put off work. Don't do it! It'll only catch up with you in the end!

    Academic Rigor

Miami does focus on academic rigor. Some classes are more rigorous than others, particularly classes for your major. If you work/study hard it's a great place to go to school.

    Dorm Life

Miami has a strong residence life program. The university is focused on individual and community growth and residence life is where that happens. It is a safe and involved community to live in. I met some of my best friends living on campus.

    Food and Dining

There are many dining halls but sometimes not so many choices. All of the menus with the nutrition facts are available online though which is super helpful for not putting on that freshman 15! There are also on campus restaurants that are delicious! Also there is vegetarian options at all dining halls.

    What to do for fun

Miami is unique as it has many university-wide traditions that people do for fun. There is also always on-campus programs on Friday nights for those that do not want to go uptown to the bars/clubs. There are always plenty of things to do and people to see!

Great for these types of students

Great for students who are dedicated to education and success in their careers.

    Clubs and Activities

Miami has clubs and activities for everyone! We have hundreds of different ways to get involved.

    Greek Life

Miami is extremely greek. It is possible to have a social life without being greek though.

    Campus Safety

Miami is a great school. I has an amazing academic program and has a beautiful campus. Its really just a great place to be and there is always something to do!

    Tips for prospective students

I would definitely recommend this school for prospective students. It has a great reputation, many ways to get involved, and so much to do. This school is not only great academically, but it really prepares you for the future and has many ways to help when it comes to careers.

    Academic Rigor

The classes are pretty challenging, but if you did well and focused in high school, it shouldn't be overwhelming. The professors are always there to talk in person or by email if you ever need them for anything. Its not a school where you can party all the time and get straight A's, you have to work hard, but it is a school that will give you a future.

    Dorm Life

My freshman dorms were pretty big and we definitely had a lot of space. I was in a triple with two random roommates, one of which I loved and the other I did not like. Overall, it was not a bad year and I made a lot of new friends in my dorm.

    Food and Dining

Our dining hall was supposed to be one of the best, but I thought it got a little old and repetitive. Compared to most colleges though, there are a lot of options when it comes to food. My favorite is the Farmer's salads and I wish that the FSB dining hall was open for dinner.

    What to do for fun

There are plenty of things to do on campus for fun, like hockey games, or going uptown for dinner with some friends. We have a great hockey team and a lot of fun restaurants uptown. There's also many levels of sports you can get involved in, an amazing rec center, and an ice skating rink. There's also always something going on in Shriver (the student center) and there's always the option of joining a sorority.

    Bang for the buck

For the education, I think that in state tuition is very worth while. As long as you take full advantage of your time there, I think your money is well spent. Every school is going to try to squeeze every last penny out of you, you'll never escape that. Out of state tuition is a little high though, its almost double the price. Many people come from out of state and I think they could cut down on that cost.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't step on the seal! You'll fail your next test.

Great for these types of students

It is a preppy school, but there are plenty of diverse people too, you just have to find them. A lot of people always look nice for class and you always see people looking fashionable. If you like the preppy look, this is definitely the school for you. A lot of people also end up joining sororities.

    Clubs and Activities

There is a lot to do on campus and many ways to get involved. They have a big club and sport fair twice a year to educate students on all of the clubs and activities available. There is three different levels on sports, and a very wide variety of clubs to join.

    Greek Life

This is a VERY big Greek school. Almost all of my friends ended up joining sororities. I didn't end up joining one, but there are plenty of people who do. If you plan to go Greek, we have a ton of sororities to join.

    Campus Safety

Of course things happen sometimes, its a college campus, things are going to happen. Overall, though, I always feel safe on campus. I don't know if its because of the type of people that attend the school, but I always feel safe walking by myself. I usually walk with a friend at night, but I have never had a problem with safety.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't let the Miami's reputation scare you away. Everyone can fit in on the campus and have an amazing college experience.

    Academic Rigor

Our faculty pushes us very hard but only because they want us to be as successful as we can be.

    Dorm Life

Though it may seem unfortunate that Miami requires students to live on campus two years, it is only for the better. While living on campus any resource you could need is only a five minute walk away. Plus I have never been in nicer resident halls.

    Food and Dining

The food is amazing! There are so many options half the time you have no idea what you want to eat. I am not sure what I am going to do next year without my meal plan!

    What to do for fun

No matter if you like to party or not, there are a wide variety of things to do for fun. Uptown we are restaurants and bars so there is a good night life atmosphere, but there is also a movie theater and a pottery painting shop if you want a more relaxing activity.

    Bang for the buck

Though Miami is a very pricey university, it i definitely worth you. The level of education you are provided with is like no other. Miami also has the highest salary rate for graduates in Ohio!

    Clubs and Activities

Miami has over 400 student organizations!

    Campus Safety

Miami's Oxford campus is very very very safe! Oxford is a small college town and a close knit community. I have walked home form the library by myself during the middle of the night and felt completely safe!

Miami University is a wonderful educational community heavily focused on undergraduate programming. It offers many opportunities and can accommodate many interests with its vast array of on-campus clubs and organizations. I would recommend it to anyone.

    Tips for prospective students

Any new place is often difficult to adapt to. Do not get discouraged. The easiest way to find your niche is to join student clubs and organizations that interest you. There you will make some of the best friends you could as for.

    Academic Rigor

Miami has a challenging academic curriculum. The challenge is not impossible due to their outstanding staff and faculty, who have made great influences on my life.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life has its negative stigma, but as far as Miami's dorm life I would not have it any other way. Their Living Learning Community Program helps you to live near other students who have similar interests. I actually became a residents assistant so i can continue enjoying the on-campus residence life experience.

    Food and Dining

Miami has a great food selection. There are many great markets and restaraunts on campus. The dinning halls have a great variety and I have many favorites. Food prices are fairly reasonable as well.

    What to do for fun

Miami always has a great ton of programming going on. Look out for musical, theater and band performances that happen at hall auditorium. It is also a tradition of mine to go to Miami's Spring Concert. Last year they brought The Fray and the year before Lupe Fiasco. The university does a great job at bringing in currently relevent speakers from across the globe, which is always enjoyable. The neighboring community also has a lot of fun things that students can get involved in, like Painting Pottery on High Street, etc.

    Bang for the buck

Miami Univeristy's tuition is relatively reasonable and many aspects like their computer rental service, convenient bus transportation and awesome recreational amenities make it even more reasonable.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Don't step on the seal! There is a seal located in the Universities Hub. The seal holds the University motto and it is said that those who step on it will fail their next exam :) Be careful.

Great for these types of students

Miami is great for active students who have an activist type of personality. Many of the important things that happen on our campus are concerning rights, equality, unity, and awareness. It is not essential but would be great for students who are concerned with issues of that nature.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many clubs and activities to get involved in. During my first three years at Miami I worked with the radio station, Practiced Tae Kwon Doh, Participated in a Guatemalan service organization, Did Habitat for Humanity Service projects, Residence Assistant for the Global Connections Hall, attended services with Campus Crusade for Christ organization, and was an editor for Inklings literary magazine. Just from that you can see there is so much that students could get involved in.

    Greek Life

I do not know much about Greek life and find Miami's Greek life to be too big on partying and not big enough on the service projects they tend to advertise.

    Campus Safety

There are many emergency phones located around campus that can help police reach you in time of need. Crime alerts are sent out to every student so they are aware of issues happening on campus. There is also a night time door to door service that will pick you up and take you to your dorm after about 7 o clock. Though issues do occur, I have never felt nervous or unsafe about Miami's campus.

I had a better first year at this university than I could have imagined. The faculty and professors are very caring and helpful, easy to approach. On top of that, the campus is beautiful with the luscious green space and red brick buildings.

    Tips for prospective students

Be careful scheduling 8a.m.s: make sure it's a class you know you'll love! Don't be afraid to go to the professor's office hours—they don't bite! And of course: try a Tuffy's Toasted Roll!! The best dessert you will ever have, and probably the most unhealthy.

    Academic Rigor

The professors ask a lot of students but they are more than willing to provide help and encouragement if you come to them personally.

    Dorm Life

I've only been here for a year, but living in a dorm wasn't too bad, and they all differ on the quality of the buildings (some of them are older with not-so-great furniture) but the RAs are pretty sweet.

    Food and Dining

Excellent food with a decent variety. It gets a little repetitive but there's only so much they can make. Plus, you can always go uptown to switch it up. The quality also differs on depending on which dining hall you go to. Definitely try Panache, but I haven't been to La Mia yet. One Eight Oh-Nine (1809) has a delicious Sunday brunch!

    What to do for fun

Marching band was a great way to meet people, especially the first year. There are literally over 200 clubs and organizations on campus, you're bound to find something you love! Then there's the intramural and club sports to join. There's also some shops, restaurants, and clubs uptown to occupy your weekends. There's something for everyone!

Great for these types of students

Don't listen to everyone who says that Miami is a preppy school... yes there are many students that live up to that stereotype, but there are so many others who stay true to themselves and find other friends who aren't into Sperrys and North face. If you love a small college town atmosphere, you'll fit in perfectly!

    Greek Life

It's a big Greek school, but no one will force you to rush... don't be pressured into anything! I didn't rush and don't plan to next year, but my roommate did and she loves being in a sorority!

Wow, Miami has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. From the professors, to the classes, to the food, everything has been perfect. It is the best undergraduate school in the U.S. and it is the best choice for undergraduate students.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips for you guys is to make sure you stay on top of everything. The classes are challenging, but they are not anything that you can't handle. If you are having trouble in any class, make sure you visit your professor because they are always willing to help out their students. Make sure you take school serious from start to finish, no goofing off in your classes.

    Academic Rigor

I loved all of my classes and my professors so far. They are all willing to help you and make sure that you are successful in their classes. Again, Miami University is the number one undergraduate school in the country. The academics are excellent with professors that love to teach.

    Dorm Life

I loved living in the dorms! You meet so many great people and you can make life long friends. Everyone is so friendly and the RAs in the dorms are not only friendly, but really helpful. We have maids that clean the bathrooms, the halls, and take out trash monday-friday. It's always clean and comfortable in our dorms.

    Food and Dining

The food is delicious! Breakfast to dinner, there are always wonderful chiefs cooking for us everyday. Miami University has so many different dining halls and choices to where you want to eat, that you will never get tired of the food.

    What to do for fun

There are many clubs and organizations that you can be a part of on campus. There is also an uptown area, that is kind of like a downtown area where everyone likes to go, eat, and hang out. Miami is so beautiful, that sometimes, people will just sit on the lawn and organize games and things for people to play.

    Bang for the buck

Miami is worth what I pay for it. I would never transfer because Miami makes everything you pay for worth it.

    Clubs and Activities

There are so many things to be involved in on campus that you will never be bored. They send out e-mails about activities and clubs and hang up posters, so you will always know what is going on.

    Greek Life

The Greek life is excellent! There are so many Fraternities and Sororities on campus. If you are interested in something like that, I would defiantly look into it. It is a good time and you meet some best friends and have a lifelong sisterhood and brotherhood way after college.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is a big deal at Miami. We have out own campus police that patrol at night to make sure that everything is in order. We also have the Oxford police department located right off campus. We have many street lights to light up all the dark spots to keep students safe.

Miami University- Oxford is a campus located in the scenic town of Oxford.

    Tips for prospective students

I suggest scheduling a campus visit and try to sit in on a class. Going on a campus visit, for me, was the best decision in narrowing down my final choice. Looking at the nice brochures they send you will not tell if the school is for you. So go to the campus and ask yourself, Could I see myself here? , Do I feel comfortable?, and or Do I think I will get the best education possible?

    Academic Rigor

Having only reviewing Miami and visiting campus, I can only say that they do offer many opportunities. For instance, they have a campus in Luxembourg in which you can transfer your credits and financial aid to attend. Moreover, they have a variety of majors that can fit for many people.

    Dorm Life

The dorms are okay, in my opinion, for the freshman. They are a little bit small and with only a select few of dorms having air conditioning. I suggest that you bring and or rent an air conditioner. However, after seeing a bit of the sophomore dorms and Greek housing, it seems that as you progress up in years the choices do get better. But be warned though, you are required to stay on campus for two years. After those two years, some juniors and seniors move off campus to apartment style housing. However you do not have to live off-campus , you can stay on campus.

    Food and Dining

Miami offers many different meal plans and dining options, so you will find what you want! Although, if you grow tired of the on campus town, you can take a walk uptown where there are cafes among other options.

    What to do for fun

Uptown is the place for entertainment with stores , movie theaters and more. However if you are looking for bright lights and big city, Cincinnati is about 45 mins away.

Miami may be in the middle of a cornfield, but there's SO much to do here. Miami has the reputation of being a party school which is true in some aspects, but if you don't drink, there are still so many things to do on the weekends. One of my favorite things to do is to get a huge group of people together and go to Goggin and ice skate. They have open skate on the weekends, and it's really SO much fun. It's one of the many things Miami offers you. Most kids live on campus, and the experience you'll get while living with everyone is unreal, and you'll never forget it.

With the numerous programs available within every department, it's clear that the Miami faculty wants to tailor your education as best as possible! The Miami Plan is the staple part of the curriculum, and ensures that everybody takes a variety of classes in things like natural sciences and foreign language. The Honors Program has their own curriculum, and ensures that students get to take a number of challenging Honors-level classes. Almost all of my professors have been extremely helpful and relate-able, and really show a passion for their subject. Plus, undergraduates have plenty of research opportunities!

    Am enjoying being here

As much as the reputation of J. Crew U is downplayed by admissions employees, there is a certain style and type of person that appears to be drawn to Miami more than others. Nearly all of the students I've met here have been really friendly, and though there is definitely diversity on campus, Miami is definitely more homogeneous than, say, Ohio State. However, like anywhere else, the trick is just to find the right niche. And with specially-designed Living Learning Communities, with themes based on interest (like sports or Honors) it makes it easier to find other people with similar passions.

    Bang for the buck

Miami is noted for being the Public Ivy League of the Midwest, but the fact remains that, for a public school, it's a little pricey. With all the research opportunities and various programs, academically it's worth the cost. That being said, Oxford is a small town, and doesn't boast much to do aside from the clubs uptown. But, the campus is extremely beautiful, and renovations are currently going on for a new student center.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be deterred by the J. Crew U reputation. Even though a large population of the students tend to follow current trends in Coach and Prada fashion, they're very accepting, and there is every type of student enrolled here. Also, there are plenty of extracurricular activities, and, as hockey is the main sport at Miami, the hockey games are a must. Go Redhawks!

Great for these types of students

Miami's Honors Program is unique for those students looking for a more comprehensive program. It's a fairly new program (two years) and the bugs are still being worked out, but it focuses on tailoring the program to the individual. Lots of essay-writing is involved, but as it's based on personal experiences and the integration of those experiences, it isn't too painful. Additionally, Miami is known as the Father of Fraternities, as something like five different frats were started on campus! As such, the Greek community here is huge, and they all love to welcome new brothers and sisters.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to teachers office hours. As intimidating as it may seem, it's not that bad. The teachers are there to help you, and getting to them know one on one is going to be a big help for you grade and what you take away from the class.

    Am learning a lot

Being at Miami, I have learned more than I expected. One reason being that every student is required to take Miami Plan courses, which contribute to Miami's liberal style of education. Not only have I learned more in college than I did high school, but the Miami Plan allows me to take a variety of different classes and learn things that I would not normally learn if I were to take classes that only pertained to my major/minor. For example, I took a southeast Asian art class fall semester 2010 and ended up learning about the different styles of art and along with the religions that go with them: Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. The second reason for my increased knowledge is quality of teaching that Miami provides. U.S. News rated Miami #2 in undergraduate teaching, meaning that the professors compare to those of some of the most prestigious schools in the country. In my experiences, the professors are a fantastic resource because they really focus on making sure that the students understand the information provided to them. Thus, I have been able to learn more in my classes and I feel vastly more educated than I did a year ago as a result of my professors being a great resource.
What I love about Miami is how education can roll outside of the classroom. Miami offers undergraduate research, which is a very rare opportunity in undergraduate education. There are also seminars and guest speakers that visit Miami all the time. This past year, the Dalai Lama visited and spoke to students and other guests, which was extremely educational because I was able to learn things from a religious leader's perspective.

    Am enjoying being here

Even though there is not a whole lot going on in Oxford, I always keep busy and have something to do. During the week, a majority of students, including myself, are busy with their schoolwork. On the weekend students do study, but for the most part it is the relaxation period. I enjoy this schedule because the week is so hectic and stressful with classes and homework that I am able to enjoy my time at school. Students here are relatively friendly and it's very easy to talk to other people, which makes the social aspect of Miami more enjoyable.
Even though Greek life is a huge part of Miami's social scene, it does not have to be everyones scene. I know plenty of people who did not go Greek and still have a great social life. I did end up going Greek and I love it, but like I said, it does not have to be a priority for every student at Miami.
One thing I really enjoy about Miami is the campus. Not only is it beautiful, but it's not too big and it's not too small. Walking through campus I feel like I am actually part of a community because I am able to pass people that I met recently and people that I have never seen before.
Sporting events are also a blast, particularly hockey. Students do go to the hockey games and really get into it. There are numerous chants and cheers and it also helps that our hockey team is one of the best in the country.

    Bang for the buck

I think that Miami is very well worth the cost to go there. It does get annoying with some of the fees that students are required to pay, and the Bursar's office is a bit disorganized, but the experience that you get out of a Miami experience is well worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

If you're looking into Miami, make sure that when you visit, you look around and see if you can imagine yourself being a student and a member of the community. It's one thing to just visit and consider a school and like it. It's another thing to see yourself actually being part of that university. If you really feel like you could be a part of this university, then your time at Miami will be most educational and enjoyable.
Getting involved as soon as possible is also going to enhance your experience at Miami. There are hundreds of different clubs and organizations, and if there isn't a club that you are looking for then you can start it yourself.
It's also important to make sure that Miami offers a program that fits your interests. There is a great variety of majors and minors, but if Miami does not offer a program that fits your interests, then your academic experience at Miami will be less enjoyable.

Great for these types of students

Miami University is great for students who are both social and intellectual. Being able to balance work and play at Miami is critical because it is academically demanding, and it is also a great social atmosphere. Being too heavy in one aspect can really hinder your experience at Miami. That being said, someone who is outgoing and willing to talk to anybody would find Miami to be a great fit for them. Making connections and talking to a variety of different people is what will make your social experience at Miami more enjoyable. In addition, being devoted to schoolwork is another great importance. Being on academic probation not only hinders a students ability to register for certain classes, but it also adds unwanted stress for students and ultimately makes it harder to graduate.

    Am learning a lot

I have learned more about the World and liberal arts in my one year at Miami than I have in my four years of High School

    Am enjoying being here

Miami is a beautiful campus however, it is a half hour drive from the closest big city and freshman are not allowed to have cars. Therefore, students are left with entertaining themsleves in the restaurants or bars uptown or in their dorms.

    Bang for the buck

Miami University is the most expensive public university in Ohio.

    Tips for prospective students

Look past the stereotypes to find your interests.

    Will learn a lot

I am looking forward to Miami's core requirements through the Global Miami Plan. It will give me a deep breadth to my education. The teachers are committed to helping you succeed. During my campus visit I was already able to meet the head of the anthropology department (my future major), and I am only an entering freshman!

    Will enjoy being here

The people at Miami are really nice, the campus is beautiful, and the food is good. The campus is very homey to me. There are 400 or so organizations on campus and I am already interested in three. Oxford is a small town, but Uptown is really neat! It has everything a college student will need.

    Bang for the buck

Miami offers so many opportunities and programs that it is definitely worth the price, and for in-state students it's a great deal. It is more expensive for out-of-state students but it's very worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

When you go on a campus visit or a Make It Miami! day, don't hesitate to talk to the professors. They want to talk to you and they're very approachable. Also, don't let being in a small town or the stereotype of preppy students scare you away...I found everyone to be quite normal here!

    If you:
    - Want a bigger university with a close-knit feel
    - Are driven and will seek the available opportunities

Miami's learning experience is a unique one. I came to school as a Business student, but really not sure of what I wanted to study. As a freshman, I was required to take one or two Business classes and the rest were just general education courses otherwise known as the Miami Plan. I did not feel the pressure of having to stick with a major I really did not enjoy. Although the Business school was not for me, because of the general education classes, I was able to figure out that I wanted to be a speech pathology major instead. Because of the Miami Plan I am still able to graduate on time in a major I really like. In addition to the flexibility and abundance of courses, the instructors and professors have taught me SO much here! The teachers at Miami really are the best and you will not only learn about the subject you are studying while you are here, but you will learn about yourself as well!

    Am enjoying being here

I could not imagine being anywhere else for my undergraduate expirience! Miami has such a rich culture and traditions that are so different from any other school I have visited! There are so many opportunities to get involved and meet TONS of awesome friends and people while you are here! My advise, however, is to get involved as early as possible. Miami has so many extra-curricular opportunities that set you up for social and academic success. Lastly, being involved in Greek life at Miami has been one of the most rewarding experiences for me while I have been a student so far. Not only have I met some of my best friends, but I have got involved with other organizations through my Greek organization. I LOVE being at Miami!

    Bang for the buck

I have been told by several potential employers as well as other university professors that Miami is a highly regarded institution and looked favorably upon by several graduate schools and businesses. Although Miami is one of the more expensive public schools, I am DEFINITLY getting my bang for the buck by attending Miami.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Join at least one organization on campus Freshman year.
    2. Do not go home your first weekend at Miami. Go uptown or utilize some of the After Dark activities that are provided by the university.
    3. You do not have to be Greek to make friends.
    4. Visit office hours as much as possible.
    5. Give Miami a chance your first year. Do not transfer after one semester.
    6. Go to a Miami Hockey game as many times as you can. They are so fun!
    7. Order your books online as soon as possible to get the used books if you order them from the University's website.
    8. Come to Miami!!!

Great for these types of students

Miami is a great place for students who want to take the front row in their education. It is a place for students who want to be involved and who are driven and want to succeed in their future careers. Miami is full of great students who get exceptional grades. I would say if you are a well-rounded individual and student, we have a place for you! Work hard and play hard!

This definitely depends on your area of study and what classes you are taking. Some of the Miami Plan classes can get slightly dull so try to take classes that sound interesting to you to fulfill the Miami Plan. Once you get into your area of study, you'll find you begin to learn so much.

    Am enjoying being here

Beautiful campus, especially during the summer and fall. Winter is pretty too, so long as you don't need to trudge around in the snow to get to class :)

    Bang for the buck

It's education, you can't really put a price on it. The meal plans and housing tend to be kind of expensive, but the plain tuition isn't too unreasonable.

    Tips for prospective students

Miami is a great university. Well-known for it's education and business programs. If you decide to go to Miami, depending on your area of study, make sure you do really well in your Miami Plan courses. They boost your GPA and I have found that as an engineering student my high grades in those courses have definitely helped me a lot. Also, professors are very willing to help you outside of class so don't be shy, ask them for help if you need it!

Great for these types of students

People who can learn on their own but still don't have an issue seeking help from a professor when they most need it, enjoy a somewhat private school feel, prefer a campus that is more scenic and not within 30 minutes of any major city.

Miami has great professors that are interested in each individual student. You're more than just a number here. If you're in one of the larger introductory classes than its hard to be noticed but as you start taking classes for your major, classes are more intimate and student-oriented.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Miami. I have made great friends that can have fun doing anything. There are a lot of things to do here besides partying if you look around. There are clubs, restaurants, cafes, and pottery painting uptown and an organization on campus that provides things to do every friday instead of partying. They offer free movies, black light night, concerts and more.

    Bang for the buck

Miami offers tons of scholarships for students and has more opportunities on campus than I know what to with. There is a group for everyone and so many ways to get involved.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Get involved! Miami can seem boring if you're not involved in something. There are over 300 organizations to choose from!
    2. Dont buy the textbook from the bookstore. You save tons of money if you look for a deal online or buy it from a friend.
    3. Bring rainboots.
    4. Buddle up when it gets cold. It will be freezing outside at the beginning of second semester and the wind is fierce. Be prepared when you get here.
    5. Live in the honors dorms! They are nicer than the others and have a great environment. Plus free air conditioning.
    6. Go to the FYI events during the first weekend you're here. You meet tons of people.
    7. Go to sporting events (especially hockey!). Go early and you can get free food, shirts, and hats!
    8. Take notes in class! Don't procrastinate.
    9. Use everything Miami has to offer. There are free tutoring services, writing centers, and more. Don't be afraid to ask for help, it pays off in the long run.
    10. Take a class just for fun.
    11. Make a friend in every class you have. Get their number. Its great to have someone to study with or if you need to ask a question about the class.

Great for these types of students

Athletes- Everyone is spirited and goes to sports events. Our hockey team is consistently good and our football team just won the MAC championship and a bowl game!
Driven students- Miami academics are great and the school is rated #2 in undergraduate teaching. Classes are set up for students to actively participate and learn. Professors are very involved and accessible.
Fun loving students: Miami students know how to do well in school and still have fun. There are over 300 organizations that sponsor events all over campus. The greek system is pretty big on campus and always has things planned for those involved.
Miami students are known for being stereotypically preppy but they are well rounded and everyone is accepted. There is a place for everyone.

I am a Farmer School Business student. This school is top notch brand new for business and I am learning so much towards my marketing major.

    Am enjoying being here

Great environment with great people. I am an honors student living in the honors dorms and have been able to meet so many amazing people. I participate in numerous activities and clubs so I always enjoy my time here.

    Bang for the buck

Yes, it is an expensive school but it is WELL worth it! Just try to earn as much scholarships as possible.

    Tips for prospective students

Come ready to meet people, join clubs, and take classes that interest you there are so many great opportunities. Also if applicable apply for the honors school it is awesome

Yes, it is more sterotypical preppy, but I am not super preppy I do not have all the it clothes but I still feel perfectly comfortable. But one caution there is VERY little diversity.

    Am learning a lot

I really am learning a lot. All of my professors love what they are teaching, and know how to teach it well. I was a little nervous at first, because I didn't know what to expect, but I couldn't be happier with my education this far. Plus, there are so many interesting classes to choose from and take, that it's hard to get bored.

    Am enjoying being here

I honestly love it here. Miami is one of the coolest colleges. It has a gorgeous campus, and is sort of in it's own little world, but in a good way. Everything is really close to where you need to be, and there is an uptown where you can eat, walk around, or just hang out. Plus, on the weekends if you get bored, you aren't an hour away from Cincinnati or Kentucky where there are malls and everything else. Also, Miami has it's own theater so you can watch new movies whenever you want.

    Bang for the buck

People think that Miami is a little bit pricey, but I would like to challenge that. First, think of all the other schools out there, and then compare. If you do a little shopping around, you find out that although it is expensive, it could be a lot worse. Second, for the education that you are getting, I think that the price fits.

    Tips for prospective students

Miami has so much to offer. It is a great school academically, it is a very fun, safe place, and you meet a lot of really cool people here. Just come and visit, and you will see what I am talking about.

Great for these types of students

Miami is the perfect school for people who are looking for an Ivy League school, but not overpay. It has a very East Coast vibe, and the atmosphere is awesome. Plus we have a great hockey and football team, so sports fans would do well here.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning very much here at Miami not only with school work, but also regarding my personality and interests. The classes are challenging and interesting and the professors really care about the students succeeding, not only with good grades, but actually understanding the material. This will be very helpful when taking graduate school tests and applying to graduate schools, which many people do after attending Miami. Also, I've learned that it is okay to come to college undecided and that professors and administrators totally accept and even encourage changing majors.

    Am enjoying being here

I think that Miami is a wonderful place for college! First of all, it is a beautiful campus. The trees and brick buildings make the place really wonderful while walking from class to class. Also, it has the college town atmosphere so everything around the campus is geared towards college students and the college students, which is nice. People here are really friendly and I like the atmosphere. Miami does not have a cut-throat academic atmosphere and everybody is willing to help others with their schoolwork and work in groups to study and do homework. Additionally, the professors are approachable and love teaching and talking to students.

    Bang for the buck

Since Miami is considered a public Ivy, I would consider the price to be pretty good for a school like Miami. Miami is more expensive than other public schools in Ohio, but it is also considered one of the best public institutions in Ohio. Also, if you live in Ohio, it doesn't seem too hard to get Ohio resident scholarships or federal loans if you need them. Also, the school costs include tickets to athletic events and fees to ride the Miami metro. It comes in handy having those things included in the cost. The bookstore is somewhat pricey, but there are other bookstores to get textbooks and Miami gear.

    Tips for prospective students

First of all, come on a visit. Talk to students who are here (I promise they are very friendly!). Think about what your major might be because Miami has especially good programs in business, sciences, and engineering (all of their programs are good, but some are known for being awesome). Then if you decide to come here, here are some tips. It's called uptown not downtown (the off campus street with restaurants, bars, and shops). Don't lose your ID (it's used for meals, to swipe in your dorm, and for athletic events). Join at least one club or sports team (clubs are very easy to get involved with and many aren't that much of a time commitment). See professors during their office hours (they enjoy meeting students and they can really help you study for tests).

Great for these types of students

Greek Life- Miami is known for it's Greek Life, both fraternities and sororities. The Greek system has students who are very involved with different things on campus. About 30% of Miami is Greek, so if you decide not to rush, you won't feel left out, but if you decide to rush, it is easy to get involved.
Christians- There are many different churches and organizations for Christians, which is nice because you don't have to go far to stay involved with religion.
People who want a good balance of academic and social lives- Miami really does have a great balance between the two. It is relatively easy to find parties and other fun events on campus
(movies, concerts, games), but people still care about academics and doing well in school.

    Will learn a lot

Well, I sure hope so since this is where I'll be attending this fall.

    Will enjoy being here

I absolutely LOVE Miami's campus. It is so beautiful and just the right size for me. I was just there today for an accepted student visit and I wish I could go back right now. The facilities are very nice and well taken care of and there's plenty of things on campus and uptown to keep you busy if you simply get involved.

    Bang for the buck

Out of all of the universities I looked into, Miami was definitely the most affordable for such a great scholastic reputation. While they may not offer too many merit scholarships, the overall tuition for in-state students is quite doable.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved in everything the university has to offer and get the most out of your tuition costs.

Great for these types of students

*Those looking for a great education at a public university.
*Those who want a middle-sized school. Not one that is so small that you know everyone nor one so large that it's impossible to really form relationships.
    *Those who love historic campuses.

I love Miami for these reasons and so much more; It really has a lot to offer.
