The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) is a much smaller school than many of the other top engineering universities in the Midwest. The size of the class is a major factor for getting a better education. Because of the smaller number of students, there are fewer students in each class. The largest lectures range from 26 to 30 students. With the class sizes this small, the students and professors get to know each other easily. (There are no teacher’s aides at MSOE, only professors).

At MSOE, the time in the labs play a large role in getting the students involved with their major. The students who attend MSOE experience more than four times the amount of time spent in labs than students who attend other schools throughout the country. The academic track at MSOE has students taking core classes dealing with their major since the beginning of their freshman year.

If a student is having trouble with a class, the student will be able to get help from the free tutoring in the learning resource center or from talking directly to their professor in person, on the phone, or even by email. Everyone is willing to help. The professors actually care and want to help you pass the class.

    Am enjoying being here

At MSOE, students are able to meet other people from all over the world. The study abroad program brings in students from the Czech Republic, Germany, and India.

There is always something to do at MSOE. The school lets students create and run organizations or clubs, so there is something for everyone to do. While there are many academic related organizations at MSOE, there are also others which deal with community service, intramural sports, anime, gaming, music, and much more.

When living in the City of Milwaukee, there is always something to do. Students can take a walk down to the lake, Ice skate at all times of the year at MSOE’s Kern Center, explore the city’s shops, paintball, go to the movie theatre, etc. The possibilities are endless.

    Bang for the buck

MSOE has everything to offer for students. MSOE offers a general scholarship to almost every student that plans on attending the school, ranging up to $12,000 a year. If students still need financial aid, there are many more scholarship opportunities and other forms of financial aid to every student.

Students who attend MSOE obtain a top notch education while experiencing some of the best years of their lives. MSOE’s small class sizes help students learn better than in large halls. The students experience more lab time than many of the other top universities. MSOE offers a guarantee for on track students to graduate on time and have every class available when need.

Apart from the excellent education, the students can get involved with activities and many student organizations.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on attending MSOE, be prepared for working hard on homework and studying. Also, you should plan on having fun at your 4 or 5 years at MSOE. (MSOE offers 5 year dual degree program).

Great for these types of students

Generally, If you like math and science, there is a good chance you would like MSOE. Although Engineering is in its name, MSOE also offers nursing, business, and more for students who do not want to major in engineering.

MSOE is a tough school, there is no doubt there. Although the teachers are enjoyable, they are very rigorous and know their stuff. Occasionally you run into a teacher that hasn't been around as long and you will end up teaching yourself as much as you learn from the teacher. In general, the rigor of the classes allows for vast understanding and understanding of how to apply what you learn.

    Am enjoying being here

I really do enjoy the classes. The teachers are great for the most part, and the rigor keeps you challenged at every turn of every quarter of class. Sometimes, school keeps you so busy you cannot have an outside life like a job which can be a problem for some. Also, MSOE is not much for partying. The male to female ratio holds steady around 4 to 1.

    Bang for the buck

This school is not a cheap one. Although they aren't, they offer a great academic scholarship to almost every student. They invest a lot into the school between high quality teachers and lab equipment. They also provide state-of-the-art laptops to every student that are renewed every 2 years (that you get to keep when you graduate). This is great so no one is at a disadvantage when it comes to the computer they can afford.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are looking for a challenge, this is the place for you. Don't come here expecting parties every night or to find your next girlfriend. This school is very down to earth when it comes to their curriculum but keep students busy their entire scholarly career.

Great for these types of students

If you like math and science in a smaller college atmosphere, this is the place for you. It is a great school and they will do anything and everything they can to get you a job. Just be ready to work long and hard for the years you are here.

While I took some basic engineering classes in High school, I'm only finished with my first year and my brain wants to burst. Don't be afraid to talk to your teachers, they are very willing to help you understand.

    Am enjoying being here

I live in the dorms, which, for me, is amazing. At home, things are horribly stressful. This way, my parents really miss me when I come home, and things are a lot calmer. There's so much to do on campus, and without spending any money either!

    Bang for the buck

For this, all I have to say is Oh my god. The laptops and tech support are well worth the technology fee. All throughout the year, they have free stuff going on, and not to mention the things that the school pays for when your in a sorority/fraternity (It encourages bonding.).

    Tips for prospective students

Study and do home work for at least two hours for every hour you spend in class. I know that sounds like a lot, but you need to, in order to keep up. Don't be afraid to join an org, it's amazing fun. Trust me, I would laugh if someone told me in high school that I was gonna join a sorority.

Great for these types of students

If you're a gamer, and you know your memes... you'll fit in very well. To me, it seems as if MSOE is filled with quirky students. We're all a little weird. It's not as jock crazy as UWM is, and I love that. Although, we have a VERY popular hockey team.

Being a MSOE freshman, I am able to see how the school is already providing me with skills for life outside of college. MSOE makes you get involved with your major, putting you in an environment with fellow students who also strive to succeed in the engineering world. Hands on learning is great for basic skills preparing you to be affective when entering a career straight out of college.

    Am enjoying being here

The school, classes, students, and faculty are great. It is apparent the professors want you to succeed by making the classes difficult so that you may better understand why you need the course in your curriculum for your major. The professors interact with the students to insure their time at MSOE is not a waste. The school teaches you the skills you will need to better compete against other future employees in the career of your choice.

    Bang for the buck

Though an expensive school, every moment your in class is worth more than the tuition. The school provides each and every student with a computer to use throughout their schooling at MSOE; a definite help. There are many opportunities for students to get free stuff such as tickets for upcoming events, and even merchandise.

    Tips for prospective students

Be ready for a very fast, hard, beneficial education. Make sure you plan your future according to your class schedules, because if you fall behind in school it will be difficult to catch up.

Great for these types of students

MSOE is perfect for students looking for a great education with surrounding friendly attitudes which guide you to succeed in life. It is also for students who are looking to complete a challenge.

You will learn SO much here. You jump right in to major-specific courses and labs your first term, which is definitely an advantage MSOE has over other engineering and tech schools. The professors are great and the class sizes are small, so you get a lot of personal instruction.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love MSOE. I joined the rowing team, and it's a lot of fun. It's really easy to get involved here, and Milwaukee is a great town.

    Bang for the buck

As far as colleges go, MSOE is pretty expensive. However, the Financial Aid department is usually able to give you what you need, and the acceptance scholarships are great!

    Tips for prospective students

MSOE is tough. A lot of time and hard work is essential to getting your degree here, so be prepared to work!

Great for these types of students

MSOE is perfect for students who want a city feel without having to live in a huge metropolis. The school itself is really small, but both outgoing and shy students feel very comfortable with the class sizes and student population.

The Milwaukee School of Engineering has superb staff and faculty that make the school incredible. It's hands on learning style allow me to get valuable experience that most others will not have in the engineering field. Also, MSOE has a terrific student body that add to the uniqueness of the campus.

    Tips for prospective students

When you come to MSOE you will have to work hard and stay focused. The education one receives from MSOE is above most others and is noticed through employers. Also, don't forget to make time for yourself and to hang out with friends. Finally, try something new; you never know what you will be good at.

    Academic Rigor

The academic work at MSOE is mildly difficult and fast paced. In order to stay in a school like this, homework must be completed on time otherwise you will fall behind quickly. In having trimesters, we attempt to complete close to a semesters worth of work in 10 weeks.

    Dorm Life

Living in the dorms is a lot of fun and an excellent way to meet new people. Getting to know people on campus is important so that you have friends to help you when you get stuck. At MSOE, we have the privilege of wonderful Resident Assistants that make life that much better.

    Food and Dining

Although there are a few places to eat on campus, we have the ability to use our cards off campus as well. These places include Chipotle, AJ Bombers, Sobleman's, and various other restaurants. The food on campus however is good, you just have to find which place you like best.

    What to do for fun

Because MSOE is in downtown Milwaukee, there are a million things to do! You can walk down to the lakefront and sit on the beach or walk to Cathedral Square and listen to music play and go to the markets in the summertime. Also, there are many restaurants and coffee shops to visit.

    Bang for the buck

The MSOE education is like any other and although the tuition is quite steep, it will pay off in the future. You are guaranteed to graduate in 4 years if you stay on track and have a high starting salary upon graduation.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

We have a spirit rock in which students, mostly greeks, paint their colors or paint designs to show school spirit. It also makes a great way to take a break from homework.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many varsity sports on campus, however we have tons of intramural sports. If you can't find a sport on campus that you like, you are more than welcome to start one up yourself!

    Greek Life

Being in a sorority, greek life is very popular on campus. The greeks take part in many volunteer services as well as host events with each other for the students of MSOE.

    Campus Safety

The zip code MSOE is located in is the safest in Milwaukee area. Furthermore, we have a campus safety program where buildings are locked early and ID's are needed to get in. Also, there is public safety personnel present 24/7 in the dorms to ensure safety of the residents.

msoe has small class sizes, so you get all the attention you need. everyone goes out of their way to help you out. you're on a quarter system so don't leave anything left for later time flies by quicker than you think. the experience you gain is far better quality than you can expect anywhere else.

    Tips for prospective students

apply for as many scholarships as you can before you start classes, and don't stop once you're in college. there is tutors available for a lot of the courses, don't be ashamed to use them, plus there is no charge for it.

    Academic Rigor

everything is at a faster pace, plus our grading scale is higher. for example for lets say a c any where else that would be a d here.

    Dorm Life

like every thing else in life it's what you make of it.

    Food and Dining

general cafeteria food, there are a couple of cafes but nothing out of the ordinary.
