Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus montgomery college has three campuses and each campus specializes in a certain area as well as all the regular offerings of a community college. the campuses are germantown which is high tech for example, rockville, and takoma park. they have online, and tv learning opportunities.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot Montgomery College offers a wonderful educational experience for new students, but I'm afraid most of the learning takes place outside of the classroom. Though there is a wide range of classes available, I have found the teachers to be generally careless. Most seemed more in a hurry to finish the class then the students did! Few of them gave homework, so usually grades were soley based off of two tests and a paper or two. Hardly any of my professors ever returned work, so their students never learned how to improve. Few took personal interest in their students, and certainly never went out of their way to make sure their class was understanding a point. I know that because of the motley crew of students going to MC- many high school drop outs, and many with English as a second language-the standard for grading cannot be too high. But I often felt the standards were so low it was embarrassing.
Did enjoy being here Despite my rather awful experience with MC classes, I did manage to have a wonderful time. That is 100% because of my involvement with the Theater department. Montgomery College has a phenomenal theater program. We put on two shows every year, with professional quality costumes, sets, and lighting by a great staff and assisted by the students. There are so many different opportunities for students to get involved with the theater, both on the technical and acting side, and feel really proud of their end result. I had a great time at MC because I loved every minute at the theater department.
Bang for the buck MC is one of the top rated community colleges in the country, and it is still only a few thousand dollars. That is a phenomenal price, and if it wasn't enough, the scholarships are easy to earn. I never payed for my MC experience, not even for books. Even though MC is so cheap, they still offer a huge range of majors, from pre-med to studio art. Students with almost any interest will find a great starting point at Montgomery College. It is a wonderful deal for a decent education.
Tips for prospective students Get involved! Because MC is a commuter school, most students tend to feel like they aren't really going to real college. This can change if the student only took the chance to find extracurriculars on campus that could connect them with others, and give them great resume experience. There are many clubs available on campus, many of them are highly active. I have one friend that is editor of the school newspaper, and another friend that works at the school radio. For me, theater was the activity I immersed myself in. There are so many opportunities for having a great time at MC, one just needs to go out and find something to be a part of. It makes all the difference!
Great for these types of students MC is ideal for students that are leading busy lives that they cannot give up, like work or families. The classes are available at all times, from early in the morning to late at night. They are even available on weekends. This allows perfect flexibility for students that need to go to school around work or family schedules.
MC is also perfect for students who aren't quite sure what career path they want to pursue. Because MC is so cheap, it frees the student to enroll in many classes to figure out what they really enjoy. MC offers a marvelous range of beginning classes, from television to pottery to environmental biology and psychology. For a student unsure of what really interests them, MC is a great place to figure it out!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences montgomery college is an affordable, conveniently located, and diverse campus in which a student can gain the best experience and knowledge they need to succeed.
Tips for prospective students i would advise prospective students to apply for fafsa as soon as possible. the earliest your application is reviewed, you will truly notice the financial differences. students should as i call it take full advantage of your professors and campus resources. if a professor offers for you to email a rough draft of any assignment for comments and feedback-take it! become familiar with the science and math centers, it will make a big difference for your grade.
Academic Rigor montgomery college is a very rigorous college. students are pushed and encouraged to achieve their absolute best and learn to reach their highest potential.
Dorm Life there are no dorms here.
Food and Dining food and dining at the mc cafe is delicious. the rockville campus offers a jerry's subs and pizza, and i would recommend the cheese steak. also offered is a store that offers deli sandwiches and coffee.
What to do for fun for fun, students can enjoy the black box theatre offered at the takoma park campus, where they can watch live performances from students who attend the school. students can also visit the cultural arts center located at the takoma park campus.
Bang for the buck the campus offers free transportation for students in need of assistance, the use of the library is free
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i do not know of any unusual traditions nor locations on campus, i can only say that it is sometimes easy to miss a corridor depending on what campus you attend because there are so many classrooms.
Great for these types of students the campus is great students who are looking for an affordable school to further their education, and for students who want to further their education but are not sure what career choice to pursue.
Clubs and Activities montgomery college offers clubs in all three campuses ranging from the bio tech club to the veterans club. there is a club for every student, if there is a club that is not offered, students are encouraged to create one.
Greek Life unfortunately there are no sororities and fraternities at this campus but the students in student life find ways to put together fun activities for students to become involved in during the years that they attend.
Campus Safety the overall campus is safe, but with any campus students are encouraged to stay alert, because danger can come from any area.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it is a safe environment and of course the campus provies free transportation for students who ride the bus. students can get good tips on registering for classes before the new semester begins. mc prepares a student to be ready for a four year college
Tips for prospective students make sure that you study all of your classes especially if you are taking summer or winter classes. if your attendance is perfect, that helps boost up your grade. always email or talk to your professor outside of class if you have questions or need help.
Academic Rigor if you make a 3.5 or higher and earned 12 semester credits, you will be placed on the deans list. for students who make below a 3.5 will still be in good academic standing. also, students can still get scholarships as an athele.
Dorm Life the campus does not provide a dorm. it is a community college, which is for students who want to be in a program or want to transfer. montgomery college is close to home and students are able leave campus once their class is over
Food and Dining the campus provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. it also has vending machines when a student wants a snack between classes. the qaulity of the food is good and the prices are reasonable.
What to do for fun there is a big computer lab. if a student doesn't have a class, he or she could play sports on campus such as, tennis, basketball, soccer, and go for a swim (the campus has an indoor pool for all students). also, a student can join clubs for extracurricular activites
Bang for the buck students can save more money when applying for a semester. what can help them save money is by applying for a scholarship or financial aid. textbooks in the bookstore go on sell whenever the semester is about to begin.
Clubs and Activities what is fun about montgomery college is that students can make up their own clubs. there are books clubs and movie clubs for afterschool. sometimes, there are clubs that plan semester parties for all students to attend.
Campus Safety the campus provides safety everyday of the week. there is security gaurds to assist students if needed help. the campus always provides guidance for students.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Montgomery College, while some declare it to be the thirteenth grade, is an excellent place to obtain your degree. The class sizes are small, allowing your professors to be more attentive to your needs. While sometimes it does seem like high school again, it is the perfect step from high school to college. You have attentive and knowledgeable teachers here at Montgomery College who guide you to make intelligent academic decisions and to succeed.
Am enjoying being here Because it is a community college and I plan on transferring next year, I am not having as much fun as most people here. However, if you are involved, whether you play a sport here or join a club, it helps you socialize and meet new people, allowing for a much better experience. In my case, I'm just trying to get my classes out of the way and continue working, so I am not nearly as involved as I should be.
Bang for the buck For approximately $2,000 per semester, this school is astoundingly affordable. You take the same exact courses and get the same education as you would at an accredited university, for a small fraction of the price. In today's economy, starting off at a community college, and at one that is so prestigious as Montgomery College, there really is no one you can go wrong!
Tips for prospective students While most of your friends are likely to be off at college, don't get discouraged about still being at home. I've met some pretty awesome people, despite not being very involved. If you get involved, you'll meet even more new people and be much happier, while still saving money. Staying at home and going to MC helps to teach you excellent study habits that most students who go off to a university do not truly learn because of the new distractions they have.
Great for these types of students If you are the type of person that is able to put yourself out there and take that extra step to be involved, you'll truly enjoy being here. Also, if you're a person who struggled in high school, yet you still want a college degree, it's the perfect place to go. As previously stated, it's some what of a balance between high school and college and truly helps to guide students into the college mindset.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Montgomery College is convenient. The coursework can be challenging but interesting. The professors will help achieve your goals if only you ask.
Tips for prospective students I would tell a prospective student to make sure you do not overload yourself with courses. Take into consideration work and family. Talk to your professors they are there to help and most will. Find something you enjoy it will make the classes easier.
Academic Rigor Classes can be challenging. Some are just interesting. Make sure to pick one you are interested in, look at reviews of professors if your unsure. Make sure you have enough time to study.
Food and Dining The food at Rockville is good. You have many varieties of food. It is relatively inexpensive. Not to mention the Starbucks and vending machines around.
What to do for fun Not far from downtown Rockville were there is shopping and movies. One can always hang out with friends at one of the local malls.
Bang for the buck Book Buy back at the end of the semester gives you a little extra cash. Does have some drawbacks when the book is no longer being used next semester. Make sure to write in pencil so you can return the books.
Great for these types of students Adult, transferring, newly graduated high school students. There is a vast student body and it is nothing to see a first year or returning student in the same class.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs and annual activites that the school sponcers. They try to get everyone involed in something.
Campus Safety Call boxes and security walking around. This does not mean crime does not happen. They do give alerts when a crime does happen.

ESL, Math placement tests etc. The teachers are friendly and very cooperative and they're always willing available and to help out in times of academic need.
Tips for prospective students Make use of the libraries and all resources placed at your disposal including the school's website. Make sure you're punctual to class and participate actively in class discussions because they are graded. Work in groups because you shall obtain help from classmates.

Greek Life Not so sure about this.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Montgomery College stands out among community colleges in Maryland. It has a rigorous, academic feel that many two-year institutions fail to have; instead, they end up feeling like 13th grade. The ease of the transfer process to Maryland 4-year colleges seems excellent.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences MC is a good option to start out with, even if you can afford something more expensive. The professors are good, the academics are satisfactory, and it has a homey feel. I enjoyed my time there.
Tips for prospective students Be very careful taking different professors - always look them up on Rate My Professor .com! You do have to take most of it with a grain of salt, but be aware that people write those reviews for a reason - it can save you a lot of pain. The professors are mostly good, but you want to be sure you don't get one of the unsatisfactory ones by mistake.
Academic Rigor You will get some classes that are very challenging - but doable - and some classes that are very easy. If you work hard at it you will learn, no matter if the class is easy, hard or in between.
Dorm Life There is no dorm! It's a community college.
Food and Dining I have never eaten at any of the cafeterias, but I hear that the food at all three campuses is quite good. That is just hearsay, though.
What to do for fun Play pranks on the professors - the nice ones will laugh it off.
Campus Safety The Germantown campus is by far the best with security and safety. The Rockville campus comes in a close second, although there have been incidences with things being stolen. The Takoma Park-Silver Spring campus, though, has a very bad reputation for people being attacked, having their goods stolen, and having their property damaged (such as cars).

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A great stepping stone. Most students are fresh out of high school. This school really prepares you for a larger university.

Dorm Life There is no dorm life. Everyone commutes.
Food and Dining Food at the MC Cafe is a little overpriced.

Great for these types of students Students who struggled in high school.
Greek Life None.
Campus Safety There are crime incidents about once a month, not very dangerous though.

Here is an example: my professors ended up adding two additional courses to the department because I had already taken all the courses the department offered.

Tips for prospective students try your best, register for classes early and always allow 20-30 minutes if you want to park on campus.
Academic Rigor tough and easy, depending on the class.
Dorm Life mc is a community college, so no dorms.
Food and Dining not the best, health wise but the food is not bad. it is somewhat expensive.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Montgomery College offers a high level of education but you have to be dedicated to your studies.
Am enjoying being here Montgomery College is a lot like high school. Majority of kids are there for their classes and then they are gone, so it can be difficult to make friends. It is also very much like high school with all the cliques.
Bang for the buck Great price compared to what you would be paying at other schools
Tips for prospective students Go to ratemyprofessor.com and check on ratings of your professors beforehand because nothing is worse than getting stuck with a bad professor.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot The teachers that I had here were amazing, you just have to know what kind of professor you learn best from. Germantown, for example, has great science and math classes and professors. And the Science Learning Center is open often, friendly, and there is no appointment needed to get a tutor- it's completely walk-in, or you can go just to study with a group or friends or classmates.
Did enjoy being here I enjoyed Montgomery College very much. The classes are small, the professors are helpful, and mostly everyone is nice and helpful. There are many ways to get in touch with people who can help you with anything you need help with.
Bang for the buck MC is definitely bang for the buck. It is a community college and is very inexpensive, but they offer a very good education to anyone who is willing to try. It's easy to get in, but hard to get out- Anyone who wants to go to Montgomery College can get in, but only if you're willing to work at it, will you come away with your diploma.
Tips for prospective students Don't treat education as a waste of time. If you do well here, than there are many places that you can continue to. Montgomery College will save you a lot of money. Also, choose your classes and professors wisely.
Great for these types of students Students who may not have done well in high school, or those who just don't have that much money to spend on college. Even though it is a community college, do not think of it as an easy way out, it's incredibly important to do well here to move on in life and transfer to another school to finish with your bachelors, or to go get a job.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am currently a music major. I have to say, the music program is amazing! The professors are wonderful and are always there to help the students. Despite it being a community college, there is still that small conservatory feeling. The professors are more than just professors, they're musicians themselves. You can see them perform at the Performing Arts Center in Rockville Campus, but also in many other places such as Strathmore and even Kennedy Center. The students that I come across are also wonderful musicians themselves! I am currently taking private 1 hour piano lessons and 30 minute composition lessons. Both of my instructors are amazing. There are plenty of performance opportunities as well. There is the Metropolitan orchestra, MC choir, chamber choir, wind ensemble, and world ensemble. The college also supports students forming their own band. If you can't afford to go to a conservatory yet, then I highly suggest going into the music program.
Am enjoying being here I was surprised at how much I enjoyed being here. All of the professors and administrators are friendly. They even seem to enjoy having conversations with the students from time to time. In the music program, everyone seems to know all of the professors and it is that individual attention that I admire. The students are also quite friendly and pretty lively.
Bang for the buck I am from Prince George's County so I pay a bit more tuition, but I believe that it is still very affordable. I do have to pay for applied music fee, but it is not very significant. It is a community college so it is more affordable than a typical university. In the music program specifically, you get a near conservatory education at a community college. Well, studying at a conservatory isn't cheap at all.
Tips for prospective students Just try to have fun and work hard. ;D
Great for these types of students If you want to go to a community college as a music major, then I highly suggest Montgomery college. I was accepted into Shenandoah Conservatory, but I was unable to attend because I couldn't afford to go. (I can always transfer though and that is the plan). I know many others who have a similar story, even those who are non-music majors. Montgomery college is extremely diverse. If you enjoy meeting people of various ethnicity, then MC is the place. It is indeed one of the most diverse college in the nation.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Yes! I am learning as well as growing more in my career. The class structure allows you to have a professional relationship with the professors due to the small class size. The professors are very knowledgeable in what subject they teach and make the environment fun to learn in.
Am enjoying being here I enjoy being on a campus because it's in my home state. Although, the downfall if you grew up in Maryland is the scenery. But, if you are a new comer to the area you will love the atmosphere and the Rockville campus huge; gives you plenty to explore!
Bang for the buck Montgomery College is affordable. Wherever you come from as far as out of state or in state. The Financial aid that is available provides you with enough money to cover classes and books. However, if you don't receive financial aid the book store will provide you with options on how to get cheaper books!
Tips for prospective students Tips! Tips! Tips! Attention prospective students make sure you see a counselor about your major and first set of classes you need to take. The mistake you don't want to make is waiting until the last minute to figure out what it is you want to do. The advisors/counselors at MC are a great help to start you off for an excellent college year!
Great for these types of students Montgomery College is a great school for students who want a small student to teacher ratio. There are three campuses available; Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park. These campuses provide you with many opportunities to perfect your craft, learn more, and broaden your horizons in learning.
