    Am learning a lot

The classes are small, 30 students max. This makes for great communication between you and the professor (no teacher assistants here!). All of my teachers are excited to teach each day, and make the material exciting (even math). I don't believe that a community college offers less quality education. I'm getting a lot out of the classes I've taken.

    Am enjoying being here

It's a clean, safe environment, but because everyone commutes it's obviously missing that college experience of dorming and close knit feeling. Regardless, everyone's friendly and in the same situation as you, so you feel completely at ease. The class schedules are so flexible, I take all of my classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am-3pm. I love those 4 day weekends!

    Bang for the buck

You really can't beat the prices. A full load for me is a little over $1000 per semester. Compare that to regular university prices, which go from $5000 to $10000 a semester, all for the exact same general education classes! It's pretty much a no-brainer. I don't regret my decision at all, because while everyone's in debt, I'll be enjoying that money saved.

    Tips for prospective students

If you struggle financially even a little bit, I strongly suggest Moraine Valley. The education was was above satisfactory, most teachers I've had are relatively easy and flexible about grades (lots of extra credit opportunities), and there are brand new buildings literally built this year. It's a pretty campus and you get a great value. I can't talk it up more.

Great for these types of students

Undecided majors, smart budgeting students, wanting to get gen-eds out of the way.

Moraine Valley Community College is an excellent school for not only their academics, but also for their dedication to each and every one of their students. The relationship between the students and the faculty is what Moraine is built on trust and understanding. Moraine Valley is in the business of starting people on the right track for a bright future.

    Tips for prospective students

Before attending Moraine Valley, it would be best to tour the campus and learn about all the facilities that the class has to offer. Moraine isn’t just your regular community college, we’re the second largest and most celebrated community college in Illinois. Also, we have amazing arts, theatre, nursing and science programs.

    Academic Rigor

No college class should ever be easy. At Moraine Valley classes are top notch. However, with such great professors that want to see their students excel it's hard to fail a class.

    Dorm Life

Moraine Valley does not have dorms at the moment.

    Food and Dining

The variety of food all around the campus ranges from healthy to the not so healthy. However, all in all it's good.

    What to do for fun

We have a lot of student run clubs and activities. If you can't find a club that fits your interest Moraine Valley welcomes you to make your own club!

    Bang for the buck

Compared to a four year college the average tuition for Moraine is extremely affordable for everyone.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Every new season the campus host it's type of college fair day. In example we have the Spring fair, Fall fest, and Winter ball.

Great for these types of students

Moraine is great for everyone. Even students with young children.

    Am learning a lot

I have only taken three courses at Moraine Valley so far, but each course and each incredible teacher has already taught me the fundamental knowledge I need to use my future. It is well worth my time and money to go to this school.

    Am enjoying being here

I love the campus, the teachers, the students, and everything about the school. Being a part-time student and part-time worker would have been impossible at a University, but here I can go to school and still be able to keep my job and support myself.

    Bang for the buck

Moraine Valley compares top universities tuition to theirs, and there is up to a $50,000 difference in tuition alone, so I am saving at least $30,000 a year just by taking my general courses at Moraine instead.

Moraine Valley is a great Community College. If only it was a university and gave Bachelor Degrees, id stay here instead of transfering. I'm going to miss it when i leave.

    Tips for prospective students

Work hard! Make school your one of your main priorities and keep options open.

    What to do for fun

Relax on campus. Go to the activities they have.

Moraine is the epitome of a community college. The campus looks nice aesthetically and the labs are all new. Although the academics aren't the most rigorous, the opportunities to obtain great grades and meet new people are there.

    Tips for prospective students

Use ratemyprofessor.com, it will be the best decision of your college career. Go to class everyday. Make friends with your professors! I can not stress this enough because when it comes to transferring or applying to graduate school, you will need these people to obtain great letters of recommendation.

    Academic Rigor

Anyone could graduate with straight A's at this school. I never really had homework. I think I had to write 2 five page essays all year. The teachers often prepare you for finals by hinting that it will be no more than 10 questions long. Most of the points earned are based off of attendance, so I would definitely suggest going to class!

    Dorm Life

    There is no on-campus housing.

    Food and Dining

The food is actually pretty good. It is somewhat overpriced (you get two bosco sticks for $3.) The dining area is always immaculate.

    What to do for fun

There is a path for walkers/joggers that encompasses the entire campass. The route is scenic, smooth, and perfect for early morning jogs! Sadly, you are not allowed to fish the ponds.

    Bang for the buck

Although the school is inexpensive, the financial aid office and the people working there are rude and don't play games when it comes to deadlines. Still, I would recommend this school because you have the opportunity to learn a lot if you go beyond the required homework.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is an unusual abundance of anime card games in the cafeteria at all times.

Great for these types of students

Students looking to obtain an easy associates degree.

    Clubs and Activities

From extreme frisbee to the drama club, the clubs at Moraine are copious. I would suggest working towards being a Phi Pheta Kappa member to obtain scholarships for when you transfer.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life at Moraine.

    Campus Safety

I have never heard of something unsafe going on at Moraine. A lot of the students seem to smoke weed, but not on campus.

This campus is very clean. The teachers here are nice. They help you to grow just as they've done for me.

    Tips for prospective students

Take college seriously. I have noticed a lot of students in my classes who say these are just beginner courses and they tell me to relax. Believe me that if you do choose to take college lightly you will fail.

    Academic Rigor

The grading scale is relatively strict. Take for instance in my COM class we only get five assignments throughout the semester. If you miss one assignment that could mean you lose an entire letter grade.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Food and Dining

The school has a decent sized cafeteria. They offer many different items ranging from pizza to burgers. They even sell energy drinks and have many coffee stands throughout the campus which is a plus for me since i'm there from 7:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m.

    What to do for fun

This campus has an amazing gym if you like to workout. We have a variety of sports teams that you can tryout for. There are various clubs depending on your personal interests.

    Bang for the buck

This college is your key to a better future. Whether you wanna get a job after or transfer to a four year university this college has the right courses and instructors to help you towards your dreams. Take a step in the right direction and at least talk to an academic advisor to see what they can offer as far as flexibility or your own interests.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I personally haven't learned about any of these yet since i'm still new to this school. Walking the campus though has allowed me to view odd structures. Depending on which class you take you maybe required to wear a uniform. I do.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for any type of student besides unmotivated student. Going to college requires a lot of motivation. Think about your future and what you can accomplish.

    Clubs and Activities

We have a variety of sports teams that you can tryout for. There are various clubs depending on your personal interests. One time when I was walking from class to class I saw a hula hoop class.

    Greek Life

I havent seen anything on greek life yet.

    Campus Safety

Moraine Valley has it's own police department. They are all over the campus. There are several locations on campus that have a buttom to push that alerts the police in case of a severe inccident.

This community college has the potential to be one of the greatest community colleges in our nation, given they adjust their moral a bit. The tuition is at a great price, and many of the teachers are people who will change your life. I'm lucky to have had my first college experience at Moraine Valley.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared, be hopeful, and always seek to improve yourself.

    Academic Rigor

This is an answer for each individual. I am very much about shooting for the stars, however not everyone takes their college experience seriously. If you're looking for someone who has the drive to make a difference no matter how bad the situation -- that's me.

    Dorm Life

This school does not have dorms yet.

    Food and Dining

The cafe and the vending machines always have great options. They're cooked by people who really seem to care about their food and take pride in the way things taste.

    What to do for fun

Enjoy the community college experience! The drama department, while not at professional level, has a lot of heart. You won't just see the normal plays and musicals here. They have variety lectures and performances, several concerts (some free), and just anything you could hope for. :)

    Bang for the buck

I thoroughly enjoy my experience at this college. A lot of people consider 2 year colleges to be not worth their time, but Moraine Valley has a lot to offer. The teachers are influential and, while the customer service in registration / financial aid is extremely lacking, the prospective / current student has a lot of room and help to grow.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

I love studying on campus only because you can do it anywhere. The library with its dusty books or a secret nook you've located on your own to utilize during off hours. :)

Great for these types of students

Adult learners, lost sheep, philosophers, dreamers, artists, and students with hard backgrounds -- Moraine Valley is a chance to begin anew.

    Clubs and Activities

There's always something going on, and every day has a new flavor.

    Greek Life

Cute. Come and find out yourself, yeah? Let's consider it subjective.

    Campus Safety

I take classes every day a week and I always see the janitors and technicians patrolling the school. Some of the sections of campus are older than others, but none are dangerous or frightening.

    In three sentences

Moraine is a very laid back school. The students and teachers are all very friendly. The only thing a little difficult there is the financial aid offices.

    Tips for prospective students

I recommend going to Moraine Valley because it's a way to get the same education as a 4 year university for a huge discounted price. The academic counselors guide you through your studies to make sure you're on your way to becoming what you'd like to be. If you're looking to save money and honestly value your education, I recommend you start your undergrad studies at Moraine Valley Community College.

    Academic Rigor

The school has a very strict policy on plagiarism, but I really wouldn't see this as a problem. Most of the teachers are fairly lenient about grading. They basically want to see you succeed rather then being held down by a few minor mistakes you made on a test.

    Dorm Life

The reason why the rating is so low is because there aren't any dorms available at Moraine Valley. Now, I personally wouldn't view this as a problem because I live near by. I do feel bad for the students who aren't from the surrounding area because they either have to commute a long distance or have to find an apartment to rent.

    Food and Dining

Moraine Valley doesn't have a set meal plan like a traditional college. Despite this, they do have a cafe, vending machines, and small cafes around campus for students and staff to grab a bite or drink. I've never had any of the food here, but I've heard that a lot of the kids like some of the offerings.

    What to do for fun

Moraine has plenty of things do for fun. For example, you can join the sports teams they offer. You can even find a pick up game of Frisbee in the middle of campus. Moraine also offers a student government program in which students can have their voices heard. I find that very amusing and it offers someone a lot of opportunities in doing so.

    Bang for the buck

I'd give Moraine Valley a 4 out 5 star review. Now, no one is perfect and of course there are some flaws, but the fact you're pay a fraction of the cost for college is definitely a huge bonus. If you want to be successful and you're not looking to pay off college forever, then Moraine Valley Community College is the right place for students. They'll put you on the right track towards your dreams and help you every step of the way.

    Clubs and Activities

There are many clubs and activities around Moraine Valley. As stated above, one could join the student government and even run for the student trustee. The student trustee is one who gets all sorts of recommendations from students around campus and he/she brings the ideas to the table for the student government, and possibly even the board of education of Moraine Valley.

    Campus Safety

Campus safety is very good. On the campus, Moraine Valley has their own little police headquarters. This offers the sense of comfort knowing that your car is being watched in the large parking lots at all times.

    Tips for prospective students

It's a community college, so dorms are not available.

Student government, soccer, writing club, GLOW, environmental groups, debate club, math club, and many many more!

Moraine Valley is a very special college, they push students to do their best to their fullest potential. Each and every teacher I have personally been taught by has showed a deep desire for all their students to succeed. And they do there best to help people accomplish their goals to reach success they never even thought they could before.

    Tips for prospective students

If a person is thinking about applying here, come in with an open mind. Because if they may have come for one intended reason or goal. But they will help as many students as they can accomplish the specific goal they had. And give them even more goals they can achieve. The students that attend this school are very socially so don't be afraid to make friends because it's only beneficial in the long run. Also for those who are trying to save money, this is probably one of the biggest money saving colleges out there.

    Academic Rigor

Many classes here may be slightly tough but never strenuous. A teacher will never give a student a work load that they could not handle.

    Dorm Life

    There are no dorms.

    Food and Dining

They have good food, just not the biggest selection for people who may consider themselves serious food lovers.

    What to do for fun

They have an open gym for about two to three hours every day. they have good exercise equipment to those who like to get a good workout. But to be honest, to determine the amount of fun you can have. Just may rely on the type of people you socialize with on campus. Or any students can simply join clubs, or other activities that goes on around the campus.

    Bang for the buck

Moraine always has some type of promotion of raffles that any one who attends the school can join. I personally know many people who were fortunate to win a contest or raffle. They saved a lot of money on books, tuition, and many other things of that nature. Plus a good thing about this college, Moraine in itself really isn't a very expensive college.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There is one location on campus, it's called the nature study area. It has wild flowers and different types of unique plants. It also has a small pond with frogs, fish, and all types of small animals living in the area.
It's a good place people can go to think, and really enjoy nature.

Great for these types of students

Any one who's outgoing, unique, or just different moraine has all types of characters. And somehow all the different personalities that are there blend together.

    Clubs and Activities

They have all the standard clubs such as; Drama club, comedy club, science club, a club for students who are looking in the armed forces, and etc. The green team is something a lot students are active in.

    Greek Life

There isn't really a sorority foundation at this college. But a lot people join clubs as a way to make up for the lack of sororities within the college

    Campus Safety

campus has security and state policeman patrolling the area 24/7. But there's never really any conflict that happens on campuses at all to begin with.

    Did learn a lot

Contrary to what many students believe the content taught at a community college is exactly the same as that taught at a four year university. I am an engineering major and I can honestly say I have learned volumes of stuff from my competent professors as they are all very dedicated and focused on teaching and helping the students in these 30 or less students per classroom.

    Did enjoy being here

I certainly enjoyed my time at Moraine Valley as it has molded me into the student I am today. The environment is very clean, the buildings offer great heating and ac systems, it is very safe, and offers a nice variety of activities and clubs to keep students engaged and out of trouble. Although the college experience will not be attained because the lack of dorms I believe this experience also contributes to the high number of dropouts and students put on probation because they are simply too young to be responsible. Moraine Valley is a great place to learn and grow as a student and a person.

    Bang for the buck

Economically it is the BEST choice a new college student can make. Expenses for about 16 credit hours including books is within the range of $2,000 USD. I simply have not found a reason why someone would like to pay three to five times as much money for the same education elsewhere.

    Tips for prospective students

Moraine Valley accepts anyone so there is no application fees or anything like that. Based on ACT scores students might need to take a placement exam. Nonetheless, prospective students if they choose to attend MVCC should keep in mind this is not a high school with more classes. It is a very respected college with brilliant professors and it will be the most challenging thing they will experience coming out of high school. Be ready to give up a lot of your free time and focus on school.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who do not want to give up their souls to the bank. Most college students are undecided in their first two years whether they know it or not, and this is a great place to start. If you will be paying more else where than you would be at MVCC, then do not think about this twice.

    Am learning a lot

A good majority of the teachers here take the time to get the information you learn to really sink in with you. They take a personal interest in seeing you learning and getting the most out of the course that you possibly can.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is small, but you meet with a wide variety of people. It is a really nice place to start your college journey. People are friendly and the atmosphere is great! Just don't steal any one's parking slot!

    Bang for the buck

For the price it is at right now, you could not pick a better school. You learn a lot, you have great experiences, and if you do not know what you want to do with your life, you have plenty of opportunities to figure it out.

    Tips for prospective students

Check out your teachers ahead of time. Most of them are really amazing, but like any school, their are a few rotten ones in the group. Although you should be able to pass the class (rotten or not), it does make things more bearable if you like your teacher.

And please, do not injure anyone in the parking lot!

Great for these types of students

Undecided, low-income households, people who want to explore but do not want to take too large of risks, people who want to stay close to home, people interested in person contact with their teachers, or any one else out there!

    Bang for the buck

Moraine is a good school if you are on a tight budget like I am.

    Tips for prospective students

Try to take Dual credit classes or AP classes while in high school to get ahead in college, also you can take Clep test to test out of a class.

Great for these types of students

I like Moraine Valley because it is close to home and I can take college classes while I am in high school. I am on the fast track of college which helps me achieve my Associate degree in 1 year. Then I will transfer to a 4 year college to finish my next 2 years and finish my degree.

    Am learning a lot

I actually transferred here from Marquette University in Milwaukee and have more homework here on average than when I was away at school. Mind you, Marquette is a top ten school in the Midwest and have high academic standards, but Moraine seems to have not only met them, but surpassed them in some respects.

    Am enjoying being here

I really do enjoy being here, the cool thing about the classes is that they are so small, but they literally include every demographic you could possibly think of. In my business stats class I had middle aged men and women pursuing their master's, yet I also had a high school senior earning AP credit. There's variation in every class, you really never know who you are going to meet.

    Bang for the buck

I think that Moraine Valley offers a HUGE variety of classes, across every possible field. In state, if you plan on transferring it's an amazing deal. You can get two whole years, plus, out of the way for minimal cost. For me, the loan I took out for ONE SEMESTER at Marquette cost more than my year and half here at Moraine Valley. And I took a total of about 40 credits at Moraine over 3 semesters and only 15 at Marquette in one semester.

Great for these types of students

Moraine Valley is great for really any type of student. It's great for those who aren't sure what they want to do because they have endless classes here, so you can dabble into anything and get a feel for what you can see yourself doing. It's also great for people who are sure, but want to save some money - or even people who want to stay close to home. It transferable into certain graduate programs, so it's on option for people with a bachelors. It's also a good place for people who are returning to school after not attending for awhile - no matter how long it's been. During my orientation they asked why I was attending and there actually was a box that said My kids all went off to college, and now it's my turn! Clearly, they are equipped for anything that comes their way.
