    Am learning a lot

Some classes have challenged me, but in many others, I have to challenge myself to grow. In some of the introductory courses, it would not take much effort to receive an A in the class. Doing the minimum will hurt you in the long run though.

    Am enjoying being here

There is not much social activity. There are people from all different walks of life (different ages, social classes, nationalities, races, etc.). That makes it interesting, but most people show up to class, don't interact, and then leave when it's over. It's hard to make friends unless you get involved in a program with a small number of students.

    Tips for prospective students

If you find that it is hard to meet people, try to find ways to get involved with a group or make a stronger effort to befriend classmates.

Great for these types of students

Self-motivated students, adults who are returning to school, students who are unsure of what they want to major in, and students who want to save money

The teachers are great. There's not much social life, but it is a very good school. The courses are as good as any 4-year university.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply early, both for the school and financial aid. Go to your College Center and ask for scholarship applications, there are options other than paying out of pocket.

    Academic Rigor

I have found that some classes can be difficult, but many are not. The teachers at Mt. Hood are almost always willing to work with the student to achieve the common goal: good grades and a terrific education.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at Mt. Hood, but a few apartments in the area.

    Food and Dining

There is a cafeteria on campus, as well as a campus store and two coffee shops. The school is within walking distance from 2 fast food restaurants, a bar and grill, and a grocery store. It is also very easy to drive or take a bus into Gresham or Troutdale for more options.

    What to do for fun

There is not much to do on campus other than a gym and pool. There is a cinema across the street. However, for weekend trips, you can easily drive to the beach, mountains, high desert, and downtown Portland, all which have a lot to offer.

    Bang for the buck

It is definitely worth the cost. You will be able to take all of your prerequisites, among many other classes, for a much lower cost than a 4-year university, with a better staff than most community colleges. On top of that, the school has a great location.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The city of Portland is one of the most unusual cities you will find, just head downtown if you want to see weird. The best place to catch the strangest of Portland would probably be the Hawthorn District (the bus will take you straight there)

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students of any race, creed, and age.

    Clubs and Activities

there are dozens of campus clubs, but it is difficult to find out anything about them.

    Greek Life

There is no greek life at Mt. Hood.

    Campus Safety

There are security volunteers on campus 24/7, and they work hard at there job.

    Am learning a lot

The teachers at this institution have an uncanny amount of knowledge. It's surprising how in depth and passionate many are about their studies.

    Am enjoying being here

Having an introverted disposition, the surprisingly sprawling campus filled with scenery and people who keep to themselves is nice.

    Bang for the buck

You won't find high quality education for less!

    Tips for prospective students

Mt. Hood offers programs that are unique to the Northwest, like a Wilderness survival education degree and a mortuary sciences degree. Get involved!

Great for these types of students

Students who like to keep to themselves and who enjoy a teacher passionate about their content will love Mt. Hood.

Mt. Hood is a great college with a beautiful campus, good academics, helpful professors, and small class sizes. The college has many social activities available, as well as financial and academic resources. It is great for students pursuing associate degrees and certificates, as well as for those who want to transfer to a four-year college.

    Tips for prospective students

Use the resources available! Student Services and the Career Counseling Center are especially helpful. There are also many workshops available for learning about financial aid, job search, writing essays and resumes, etc. The Tutoring Center is free and convenient!

    Academic Rigor

The academics at Mt. Hood are at a challenging, but not overwhelming, level of rigor. There are very difficult classes offered, as well as beginning and remedial classes. The professors expect quality work for the level that you are at as an individual.

    Dorm Life

The campus does not have a dorm, but there is inexpensive housing in nearby apartments just a few minutes away.

    Food and Dining

Mt. Hood has a variety of different options for food and dining. There is a great cafeteria, as well as a coffee shop in the bookstore and nearby restaurants.

    What to do for fun

Mt. Hood has many, many activities available throughout the year, such as holiday events (Cinco de Mayo was this month), many different clubs, concerts, plays, a planetarium, as well as classes such as dance, yoga, and martial arts.

    Bang for the buck

For the tuition, I think that this is a great educational experience. There are so many options, free tutoring, challenging classes, small classes sizes, friendly professors, lots of school activities (many of which are free).

Great for these types of students

Mt. Hood is a really great school for students who are struggling financially, there are many options for financial aid, scholarships and programs that help pay for textbooks and school supplies. It is also a great options for students who are looking to complete an associate degree or certificate program.

    Campus Safety

The college has security officers around the campus; they will walk you to your car if it is dark or you don't feel safe. There are also pay phones available; you can dial campus security or 9-1-1 for free. It is also a very well-lighted campus.

MHCC is a liberal community college. It has a variety of wonderful degrees including Wilderness Survival. I love MHCC's atmosphere.

    Tips for prospective students

Take EL115, it's a wonderful study class that will help you prepare for college. Take advantage of the free learning seminars and free tutoring. Make an appointment with the Learning Success Center Advisors -they'll help you figure out studying tips that work best for you. And meet with an advisor regularly to make sure you stay on track toward your desired goals.

    Academic Rigor

It's not the most difficult school, after all it is a community college, and most of the professors are pretty flexible, but every once in a while you will get the occassional tough/picky professor who's hard to please -however, for the most part this is not the case.

    Dorm Life

It's a community college; there are no dorms.

    Food and Dining

There's a deli on one end of the campus (top floor), a cafeteria on the opposite end (top floor), and a vending machine in the middle (also top floor). There is also a bookstore which has food on the bottom level in the middle of campus.

    What to do for fun

It's a college campus with lots of students and events. There is usually something going on. On the bathroom stalls the student body posts a poster every month of the events going on, so that students can stay updated regularly.

    Bang for the buck

It's good for a community college, but used to be better before they had to budget their money more, due to overspending or improper use. Now students have extra costs they didn't used to have and daily life on campus is more inconvenient than it used to be, but it is still a nice campus and a nice school with a diverse population and an active student body.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There once was a juggling club, but it didn't last long due to the leader leaving for a military position.

Great for these types of students

Students who are self exploring or want to be in a semi-flexible environment for the purpose of self growth and education.

    Clubs and Activities

Did I mention there used to be a juggling club? How cool is that?!

    Greek Life

I don't actually know that much about the greek life on campus, although I do know it exists.

    Campus Safety

There is always a safety person around. Although personally I think that's because they are trying to find people to give tickets too for violating parking permits now that they need a little more cash flow, but that's just an observation...

unprofessional teachers, horrible financial aid program. staff unwilling to help.

    Tips for prospective students

    DON'T GO TO MT.HOOD

    Academic Rigor

I went to Mt.Hood for a year and a half. my experience with the schooling alone was negative. Teachers were not professional. over 50% of teachers i had were rude, not willing to help, and over all unprofessional. I passed with b's and higher at mt.hood but that comes with no thanks to the teachers. then it got WAY worse when my mom lost her job. they pulled my financial aid without informing me. Usually if someone is fired you would qualify for MORE financial aid but, someone in the financial aid office accidentally put in computer my mom was making 30,000 more rather then less a year. so they pulled my aid. then, when i went in the next term to set up my classes i was denied because i had a $500 bill due to them for last terms classes. I come from a household that is on a very small income, to even get the chance to go to school was a blessing. $500 would take me at least 6 month's to save while still covering bills. I talked to someone in office, they said if i waited till tax season next year and showed proof of my moms low income they would wipe my debt and let me return. I did so, they admitted fault, changed my moms yearly income in computer. but said i had to pay bill still because there was no way to wipe my debt EVEN THOUGH my debt to them was caused by someone making a mistake. so now, thanks to mt.hood i have bad credit, still haven't saved enough money to pay it off, and am out of school. DO NOT GO TO MT.HOOD!!!! THEY WANT NOTHING BUT MONEY AND THEY ARE CRUDE!!!!!!!

If you really have a thirst for learning, you will indeed be quenched. Like all college, it's based around which teachers you get, some better than others. I've been blessed by extraordinarily down to earth math teachers who are extremely dedication to making everyone grasp the subject in it's entirety.

    Am enjoying being here

I've definitely enjoyed college, much more than high school. The atmosphere at Mt. Hood is very laid back. There are numerous places to settle in and study.

    Bang for the buck

Compared to a 4 year university (which you can transfer to in order to obtain your bachelors) it's stupendous. Starting off by going to Mt. Hood or a community college like it will save you thousands of dollars.

    Tips for prospective students

The administration doesn't bite. Keep in mind their paychecks are fueled by your taxes. Don't be afraid to talk to the teachers, they are all dedicated to helping you learn.

One thing I have to say about Mt. Hood is that the teachers are amazing! They actually care about your education and want to help you succeed in life. There have been some bad ones but over all they have all been wonderful. At first when I went to Mt. Hood I went to get my general classes out of the way and live at home to save money. I wasn’t too happy about that but I have grown up a lot more being around an older crowd. The difference about Mt. Hood and other colleges is that not only young kids but also adults who have gone back to school surround you; you get a mixture of friends this way. I made a friend in one of my math classes that is a single mom who went back to school to become a teacher, who I hangout with outside of school whenever I get the chance. Over all Mt. Hood has been a good experience, I got to learn what is expected in college level classes and grow up a little bit more.

    Am enjoying being here

The only problem I have being at Mt. Hood is I didn’t get a new experience. I’m from Sandy and Mt. Hood Community College is in Gresham, which is about thirty minutes away. I would of love to be in a dorm, to be in a new town, and meet young kids that are my age. I also wish I could just walk or ride my bike, driving everyday is a pain. I enjoy learning new things so I am having a good time and appreciate the staff a lot. They have a free tutoring center that is great, I feel like I’m always up there. They will help you with all subjects from math to accounting they have it all.

    Bang for the buck

Money wise you get every dollar worth, I was talking to my older sister’s boyfriend Brian and he had been taking classes at Portland State University then took some at Mt. Hood on the side and the same teacher that was teaching at PSU was at Mt. Hood. So he was able to take the same class for a fraction the cost at Mt. Hood. I think Mt. Hood is a great place to take some of those harder four to five credit classes so you can get them at a better price. But just make sure that the school you want to transfer or are already at accepts them.

    Tips for prospective students

My tip for students that are entering college are first when you register go see a adviser they can help you set up your path and also make sure that the credits you take transfer to the school you are wanting to go to. Second if you’re unsure what you want to go to school for see a career councilor they can help you figure it out. They offer classes that you can take to find what you like. Third use the web cite rateyourprofessor.com every term I use this cite and get amazing teachers each time. Fourth don’t feel like your missing out because you went to a community college there are many activities that they put on from dances to concerts. And will be saving money for later on when or if you transfer.

Great for these types of students

All types of students are welcome I feel like there is a big diverse group at Mt. Hood. More adults then kids but I still feel like I fit in just fine.
