    Am learning a lot

The answer Is definitely. This school is Strongly thrives on the academic status of its students, so of course they provide the tools and resources for student success. the classes are not as big as a regular college I am only a second semester freshman here and I have already learned that my biggest class will be about 100-125 students. Because of the smaller classes the professors get to know the students better and they are always happy to speak with a student one on one.

    Am enjoying being here

Yes, I grew up in Denver, Colorado, so at first the move to Socorro, New Mexico was hard. Socorro is an extremely different environment from a big city but there are many activities besides school that help keep many busy. For example, I am a huge work out buff being that i played football in high school so i often use the work out facilities here, which are phenomenal. In addition to my work out schedule I have also picked up rock climbing/ bouldering since i began attending NMT.

    Bang for the buck

academicallly speaking NMT is Constantly setting the bar higher and higher, no education goes to waste here. However, even though there are many social students at NMT and there are many ways to have fun, tech is not a party school at all but the drive to be at such a renown college keeps many students here and we still find many other , more creative ways to have fun.

    Tips for prospective students

Study habits/ strategies are crucial! Many Students come into NMT thinking that they can get buy on the study habits and strategies from high school when in fact the work is a lot more vigorous in college, and that goes for any college or university.
    1) Study 2-3 hours four every credit hour you attempt
    2) Find out whether you study better alone or in a group setting and apply your strengths
3)find a tutor immediately if you are struggling. otherwise you will fall way behind.
I myself, was actually one of these many students and now I am reforming my study schedule to accommodate for college, I just wish I would have made the decision before my first semester.

Great for these types of students

Ambitious, enduring, strong charactered, determined, charismatic students

    Will learn a lot

It depends on the teachers. I am lucky in that I have gotten to know several Tech students already and they have given me advice on which Professors to try to get and which ones to avoid. I would learn this anyway in a few years but I am glad my first semester there will be less hazardous in this respect.

    Will enjoy being here

I am already familiar with the campus and many of its students and I LOVE it.

    Bang for the buck

Tech is cheap compared to the other schools in the state. I think Tech's tuition and everything are reasonable. Except for their dorms. There is very limited housing in the way of dorms so they are expensive because of all the competition. However, the Socorro real estate rental market has adapted to this need and renting is a good option here.

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to upper-classmen. Somehow. Not the other incoming Freshmen, unless they're really familiar with the school already. Ask about which classes to take and which ones not to take.

Great for these types of students

NERDS. OMG Tech is Nerd Central. There are dances and clubs and a nice gym and social meeting places, but underneath it all, Tech is a very geeky/nerdy school. Just be warned. Be prepared to deal with it. If you are, you'll be fine. If you aren't, you may feel very alienated. Or very at home!

    Will learn a lot

They have a 99% Phd professor rate. That means that 99% of the hired professors have Phd's. This is a better rate than the prestigeous schools like MIT

    Will enjoy being here

The school is in a VERY rural community about an hour south of a large city and 45 minutes from a smaller city. The town has a 9000 population, so it is very small, one must consider this.

    Bang for the buck

In-state tuituon is very inexpensive but even out of state tuition is only 18000. Though this is a lot it is half of what some schools charge for out of state.

    Am learning a lot

You will learn a lot if you come to tech and stick it out. Classes here are hard and a lot of students don't make it through the first year, but those that do are the ones who are willing to put the work into college. It is a really small campus so by junior year all the professors in your department will know your name and will take an actual interest in you. So as long as you are willing to put the work in, you will learn a lot. If you are just looking to get by, this probably isn't the place for you.

    Am enjoying being here

Socorro is a very small town and there isn't a lot of options for recreation and entertainment beyond the college campus itself. This can be good because it is easier to focus on homework, but after four years Socorro can feel pretty small. An upside is that everyone you know lives five minutes away from you at most so it is really easy to get activities going if you want. Depending on what you like, this could be a great fit for you.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of going to tech is really pretty low compared to other colleges. Some people get paid to come here. There aren't a lot of degrees offered so if you aren't sure science and engineering is for you you might look elsewhere, but if you know that's what you want this is a fantastic place to come and not go broke doing it.

    Tips for prospective students

Find a group of students in your class who want to work hard and learn. It is incredibly helpful having some support for classes you don't understand everything in, and if you have to explain something to another student you learn it that much better. Also, find a student who is a year ahead of you. They will be able to help you with issues you can't figure out, give you advice on professors, and maybe even let you borrow a text book so you don't spend $800 each semester.

Great for these types of students

Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or any other type of nerd.

    Am learning a lot

Academic excellence is a hallmark of this institution. Essentially all of the professors have PhDs and are experts in their respective fields. If you would like to be the best, you would do well to learn from the best. The academics are rigorous but with help from the professors and New Mexico Tech's Center for Student Success, there is plenty of help to be had if one is struggling with a particular class.

    Am enjoying being here

Socorro is a small town, but all the people are friendly. For the most part both students and faculty tend to stay on or near campus so there is a strong sense of community between the entire campus. It's very easy to get involved at NMT; an excellent Student Association supports a wide variety of clubs, both social and athletic.

    Bang for the buck

New Mexico Tech is a top-notch institution, one that is world-renowned and valued as one of the best by many. The cost of attending NMT is remarkably low though, pretty close to the lowest in the area for a 4-year program and by far the lowest in the region for the excellent quality of education that you will receive.

    Tips for prospective students

I highly recommend NM Tech. There isn't ten thousand students and there aren't parties 24/7 but the education you will receive will carry you to the peak of science and engineering. The classes are hard, but they are completely manageable with a bit of patience and effort. Don't be afraid to join study groups and go in for help if you are struggling. The professors give hard work but not because they want you to fail but rather because they want you to succeed.

Great for these types of students

NM Tech is mainly a science and engineering school. Although, you don't need to be a complete genius at physics to do well and get a quality degree. If you have a real dedication to learning science and engineering, Tech is the place for you. While the academic programs at NMT are mainly focused on science and engineering, there are also a few programs such as Information Technology and Business Management.
