Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Be different. NYU is all about diversity. Everyone you meet here is fascinating in their own way. The things you can look forward to here is bragging rights you live in one of the world's greatest cities there's basically no resource or industry not a your fingertips. Internships are everywhere if you take the chance to look and in my first year alone I've met some of my idols: film directors, DJs, musicians etc. Also a lot of kids at NYU have their heart set on what they want to do. We are really school oriented here. You can choose between for Undergrads Tisch (Arts), Steinhardt (Education and Random Stuff), Stern (Business), College of Arts & Sciences and Gallatin (make up your major). Some kids get placed in Liberal Studies Program if they don't make it where they want to go but then get to redirect on their path later. You'll probably make your best friends within your major here and if that's something that you love for example: discussing films all the time. Then be ready for people who think and like things like you, but of course, there's always a chance to branch out plenty of clubs on campus and outside NYC activities.
Great for these types of students When coming to NYU, you need to have an open mind. I sincerly believe that there's a certain type of person who succeeds at NYU and that's someone's who's bold and independent and doesn't mind going out of their way to meet people or at first be out of your element. It's great for people who adapt well to new situation, love having their hands full, making connections and have big-time aspirations and want to be able to submerge themselves into their career from the start. If you're into close-knit communities, sports and frat life don't look here to get your fix. But we definitely are perfect if you want to meet people passionate about what you are whether it's business or the arts, like shows, cultural experiences and the big lights. The arts are abounding so if you're an artsy-fartsy type, future entrepreneur or an activist look no further.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Academically speaking, New York University is somewhat of a hodgepodge in quality between its different schools, so make sure you apply to the right one with the right credentials. Among its more renowned branches include:
The Tisch School of the Arts: Founded and supported by the late Laurence Tisch (who, by the way, graduated from what is now Stern) and his family, the Tisch School is known as the #1 film school in the U.S. That said, If you're applying here, make sure you've got artistic chops. You will need a strong portfolio that should blow people away with its creativity and uniqueness, and know that you are competing against the best amateur film makers and artists around the globe. On the bright side, standardized scores and figures aren't emphasized, so a low GPA and SAT aren't that hazardous. Known graduates include Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, and even Angelina Jolie. Left-handedness is preferred.
The Stern School of Business: Known for producing investment bankers that go on to work for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, etc, the Stern school is filled with people with great mathematical skills with good GPA's and high SAT scores. Aim for a > 3.6 GPA, > 2100 SAT and > 720 on SAT II's. Known graduates include: John Paulson, Robert Soros, Alan Greenspan.
NYU's College of Arts & Sciences is a bit trickier than the other two schools, but its strong points include the Courant Department of Mathematics (#1 in applied math, USNWR), Philosophy and Economics. You can study anything here and the requirements are significantly lower than the previously mentioned schools. Aim for >3.4 GPA, >1900 SAT, >650 SAT II's.
Gallatin is the school where you can create your own major. You have access to every course at NYU, so you can mix and match things around and end up as a specialist in Indian Agriculture. While the atmosphere here is extremely liberal, I would advise against applying to this school unless you are very independent. Keep in mind, if you wanted to major in Finance or a something in NYU's specialized schools (Tisch & Stern), you would have to do an internal transfer. Requirements are about the same as CAS
Polytechnic is the new engineering branch for NYU. Since the school has just been incorporated in to the system, I expect that its requirements would be a little lower than CAS.
There you go, a whirlwind tour of NYU's departments. Good luck on your application.Great for these types of students There is a certain mystique surrounding New York University and the city it encompasses. The lights, Broadway, instant access to the World's biggest hub. Dispel that notion immediately.
While these events happen somewhat frequently, they do not come close to encapsulating the NYU experience. As a student, you must become independent immediately. The learning curve here is slightly steeper than many other colleges, but it's manageable if you take slow steps in finding your place in the school's culture. Also don't worry about not fitting in with certain crowds, there is a niche for every type of individual, but many of theme are somewhat liberal (this varies from school to school).
Also note that NYU is an expensive place. By the end of four years, you will have spent $57,228 per year (assuming you dorm), which is $228,912 overall. The sticker shock, while intimidating, can be managed through a combination of loans, frugal spending, and financial aid. All of which can easily half the total figure.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The learning portion is inevitable, isn’t it? NYU has various schools underneath its purple umbrella – College of Arts and Science, Tisch School of the Arts, Stern School of Business, Steinhardt School of Culture/Education/Human Development, College of Nursing, Silver School of Social Work, Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality/Tourism/Sports Management, the new Global Liberal Studies Program, and the Liberal Studies Program. No matter what your interests or professional aspirations are, there is a school for you. If none of them quite fit the bill, there’s the Gallatin School of Individualized Study where you can design your own program of study. NYU, with its rigorous curriculum, will give you a well-rounded education. You will be well-versed in the ways of the world – through the courses for your major and the core curriculum: The Morse Academic Plan. My course load this past year consisted of various classes in different areas – Art History, Music Business, Game Theory, Anthropology. They were taught by some of the most experienced and expert faculty. Although I’m not a hugely Science-oriented person and I didn’t find my Natural Science course interesting at all times, the course definitely heightened my knowledge in the area. Overall, my courses were stimulating, challenging, and interesting.
Am enjoying being here Blair Waldorf may refer to NYU as a “glorified state school” filled with students with ironic facial hair – but NYU is rightfully called a dream school and deserves the prestigious tag. Freshmen year was truly one of the greatest years of my life and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. This is the University where the meaning of communal bathrooms is lost; where you will wake up in the morning and revel in the fact that you attend NYU; where an acceptable “Welcome Week” activity is “Guess the Straight Person”; where going out at midnight is completely acceptable; where Thursday is the new Friday (unless you’re Pre-Health, sorry); where drawing a fellow student naked or tap-dancing (or both at the same time) are typical forms of homework; where an exciting non-traditional college experience awaits you; where adventures are in reach and in front of you (unless you stumble upon a film set, in which case you need to go around); where the grid of Manhattan is your campus; where the campus never sleeps; and where summer is truly the worst part of the year.
Bang for the buck Unless you’re blessed with scholarships, born incredibly wealthy, or fortunate enough to be Alexis Bledel or James Franco—you’ll probably cringe (at least a little) at the fact that NYU comes with a minimum price tag of $50,000. Gandalf the Grey is still falling down my hole of debt. Is it very expensive? Yes. But is it worth it? I think so. It’s an insurmountable burden on my parents, so I’m making the most of my education – and if you do too, the entire experience will truly be worth every cent. You live in Manhattan, you get some of the best residence/dining halls, you have access to an exponential amount of part-time jobs and internships, you have an expansive array of classes and extra-curricular activities to choose from, and some of the best faculty and experts heading it up. And you’ll have the time of your life. Like the commercials say—priceless.
Tips for prospective students If you are in the midst of your high school career, keep your grades up and stay involved. NYU generally doesn’t conduct individual interviews, so you need your application to shine among the tens of thousands that flood the Admissions Office. Apply to the NYU school that you want to apply to – i.e. don’t go to College of Arts and Science if you fully intend to transfer to Stern. Internal transfers are not necessarily easier. Carpe diem, baby – just follow your passions. If the college application process has finished (congratulations, hope it didn’t drive you too mad), then it must be decision time. This may seem obvious, but if you do not like the city, NYU is probably not for you. I’ve met several first-years who chose NYU despite their dislike for the city, and then ended up hating their entire experience. You have to understand that the closest thing to a quad you will get is Washington Square Park: a former burial ground. Take the time to visit NYU, make sure you can see yourself living there for four years. Talk to current students, stay overnight, sit in on a class, talk to faculty, do your research, get all of your questions answered. Every school within NYU has its own specialization/field. Whether you are dead set on what you want to study or you have no idea – there truly is a place for everyone. Keep your passions within reach, allow your education to serve as cornerstones for your career path, but look into the arrays of classes and leave some room for exploration.
Great for these types of students I transitioned easily, but prior to my arrival, I was told that it was easy to feel isolated at NYU—that it was necessary to put yourself out there and to actively make friendships. For those who do not find that fact daunting, NYU will probably be a great place for you. However, even if you are more reserved, there are plenty of opportunities to meet people (orientation, extra-curricular activities, residence halls, classes) and there truly is a niche for everyone. As long as you are open to new relationships (friends, professors, etc.), perspectives, and environments, you will most likely thrive at NYU. Living in one of the world’s greatest cities is not without its temptations, so make sure you can keep a realistic balance between the social and academic aspects of college. NYU is perfect for those who want an exciting/non-traditional college experience, who don’t mind being obstructed from class because Robert Pattinson is filming, who love bustling cities and cultural experiences, who are open-minded and independent, who want to carve out their own opportunities, who revel in the fact that NYU’s football team is undefeated and the mascot is a violet/the library card catalog, who want to explore, grow, and challenge themselves, in addition to those who are looking to have the time of their lives.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot New York University offers a learning experience on levels many schools cannot deliver. As with any practical college, the learning is balanced so it takes place in and out of the classroom so that a well-rounded education naturally occurs.
The school's resources (the faculty, the library, and the city itself), are endless, but they are useless to people who don't take advantage of them. Many students can get by at NYU by taking required courses and doing fairly well without actually learning a ton. However, those students who thrive on opportunity and involvement in what they are learning will find a very comfortable place in the culture of New York City.
There's something special when you can learn about Picasso or Ancient Egypt, then take a trip to the Met and see works by Picasso and sculptures out of Egypt first hand, rather than a stylized picture in a text book. The environment of NYU encourages students to take learning from active participation in the city's cultural/intellectual richness and apply it in class. Not many other schools can say the same.Am enjoying being here New York University attracts the type of students I would prefer to be in a community with. The students of NYU are spectacular. They are competitive, interesting, intelligent people who have chosen to engage their lives in their passions. That's why I have fun at NYU.
Going to NYU doesn't just bring the fun of the city, it brings the fun of all the people who choose to go there as well. The students come from every state and so many different countries and bring their unique backgrounds with them creating a fascinating community.
The creative energy pulses everywhere through the streets, there is no such stimulation anywhere else.Bang for the buck It's expensive. However, you're going to college for a reason. You're not planning on settling. It's just a matter of how much faith you have in yourself that determines what you are willing to invest.
For some, New York University is a risky investment. Those people content with silently studying in their dorm are better off putting their money elsewhere. For people who get the most out of hands-on learning, New York University is a better investment.
I'm paying for college myself, neck deep in student loans, but I'm confident I made the right decision because I found the experience I was looking for.Tips for prospective students You're not going to school because you need to, you're going to school because you want to. Because you won't be satisfied with a life less rich than it could be. Don't settle for being comfortable and don't be intimidated out of being the person you are. You are doing what you want, and not what you're told. If you're going to a large school, in a large city you should be most eager to learn more about yourself and be prepared to accept things you did not know.
Great for these types of students New York University is wonderful for students who have a grasp of what they care about and who they are, but are willing to remain open-minded about both. New York University is best for the students who can handle constant stimulation from every direction and even better for those who crave it. It's for people who want to explore and share their discoveries for the advancement of themselves and their fellow man.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students NYU is unlike the majority of other top Universities, in more ways than one. While academics definitely matter when it comes to getting accepted, they look at a lot more than just GPAs & test scores. NYU wants students who are unique; extracurriculars & essays are a big part of admission, & it shows in the student body. Everyone I've met is not only very intelligent but also extremely interesting, creative, & talented. The campus is full of top-notch musicians, artists, actors, & writers, as well as future politicians, lawyers, CEOs, & doctors. NYU seriously has something for everyone! Make your application stand out from all the other Valedictorian book-worms, it's what they appreciate most.
Great for these types of students If you're drawn to NYU for more than just the prestige, this is probably the school for you. Students who are looking for a stimulating, non-conventional environment will love NYU. It's not only one of the best schools academically, but culturally it outshines any other. The school and students are so diverse & accepting of anything one could choose to be. Being right in the middle of New York City itself is also an incredible opportunity. You'll learn just as much outside of the classroom in everyday life as you will from one of our amazing professors. This is not a school for someone who wants the typical frat parties, football games, closed campus kind of college experience. Instead, NYU is perfect for those students who wish to freely express themselves & explore everything the city has to offer, while getting the education of a lifetime.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is not a question of if you will lear a lot its the immense options of what to learn that is the problem. Wether you choose to major in Happiness and Sex in our Galltin school, fufill your dream of holding that Oscar or majoring in our top business school. NYU honestly has it all. As soon as you step outside of the classroom, you enter a whole new world of learning and possibilites. I cringe a little as a say this, but as cliche as it sounds, the City is your playground/classroom. You will learn the ins and outs of the city, learn first hand the living habits of neighbor Jude Law and where the cheapest/best chinese food is.
However, Im not going to lie and say that it is not hard, no matter what major you are Happiness or Pre-med, NYU is first and foremost a prestigious university and there is a reason for that. School work is hard, but is it well worth is? YES.Am enjoying being here What is so unique about NYU is that you truly learn life long lessonss, the city can be the source of immense opportunities, but it can also turn you cold. It is a large school and it is easy to be overwhelmed with the people, the city and the school. However, you learn to stand on your own, you will gain the skills needed to be truly independent. That is why I truly enjoy being here.
Bang for the buck Honestly and statistically speaking, NYU has one of the higher price tags compared with other universities. But you also have to take in consideration what the school is offering: bathrooms in every room, dining halls with every possible meal selection, considerably large dorms that would cost a fortune in the city. Also, all the interships and jobs in the city are at your fingertips. So yeah, the cost may be an eyesore at first, but NYU also knows that, there are not many students who are not working, have a scholarship, loan or aid.
Tips for prospective students VISIT THE SCHOOL. Make sure it is what you want. NYU is a totally different atmosphere than any other school and it is not for everyone. Although, we do welcome those of all shapes and sizes.
Great for these types of students Like I have mentioned, the school is so large and so full of opportunites it is impossible to point out a steriotypical NYU student. I would say, however, that a person who is definitly a city-person and one who is willing to explore and go on adventures in the city. As Jay-Z and Alica Keys eloquently put it, These streets will make you feel brand new, the lights will inspire you,

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors are really helpful and they inspire you. Though I have early morning lectures, my professors then seemed to me like beacons of information. Get to know them better. They really want to know you well. For example, I don't feel bothered when I had a conversation in the elevator with my chemistry professor. Nor was he. And I would walk down a block discussing sociology with one of my professors. They really enjoy it. Don't feel weirded out. It's a grade-maker.
Am enjoying being here I thought as a commuter student I would miss out the fun and everything. I was wrong. As a commuter student, I sought ways to build friendships and find fun. You don't need to dorm in order to enjoy college. My group is filled with commuters, and thus we are from the city. Thus we are able to relate to each other things we know. And thus, that allows us to bond faster.
Bang for the buck 55k a year? Shocked? I was too.
Don't worry. Thousands have done it. And they left here calling it a great investment. Don't cut class, spend time with your friends, classmates and professors. Try not to get hooked on parties. That's not what NYU is for, even though it's a party zone around NYU.Tips for prospective students -Don't procrastinate, you're only going to hurt yourself.
-If you live in the city, COMMUTE.
-If you commute, avoid taking 8 AM classes.
-Learn time management skills.
-Really get to know your professors.
-Forge friendships. Really.
-Work both academically and non-academically. Like find a job.
-Sleep.Great for these types of students -People who consider shelling 40-50k a year to be an investment
-People who enjoy the big city campus
-People who want to come here and have a future and enjoy the now

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot NYU is in a highly populated metropolitan area and as such, it is very diverse. This is true not only in the physical nature of the students, but also in how they think. Therefore, a lot of emphasis is placed on putting problems in many perspectives and thinking about things in new ways, as opposed to traditional memorization. It's also definitely different from the high school experience where there is a set curriculum that a teacher follows. The professors have a lot more leeway than in high school, so their interest shows. With such a diverse student body, there is a huge amount of classes for a student to take, so it definitely encourages me to step outside of what I'm used to and study a new subject. As far as personal attention goes, the faculty always makes time if you need help (they have office hours, but they'll also make appointments with you if you e-mail them) and NYU provides tutoring for most subjects. The departments themselves often offer tutoring hours and if you're confused, most likely other kids are too, so working together is often useful. Also, the large lectures (which for me have been at most around 100 kids) are supplemented with recitations, which usually consist of 20 or so kids to go over the lecture.
Am enjoying being here NYU is a unique experience. Since it's not really a college campus and is instead a jumble of assorted buildings around the city, it doesn't attract the same type of people who are attracted to a small-scale rural school. Also, since NYU is a high-standard-academics university, almost all of the kids understand that their education comes first, so if you enjoy intellectual discussions and humour, NYU is the place to go! In terms of things to do you would never be bored. There's always something to do. You can join clubs (there's a club for pretty much anything, or you can make a new one), play sports, take a sports class, see a play, go to the park, visit the shops, ride the subway, go to concerts, dance at clubs, visit museums, etc. Anything you want to do, you can find in the city. NYU offers cheap tickets for plays and sports and movies and the like, which is quite nice. Also, NYU often sponsors free events such as special seminars, concerts, and movies. If you like to read, the NYU library is huge with over 3 million books. Plus, NYU offers these free language courses to help you learn to speak another language (and you can take a bunch per semester).
Bang for the buck Some people label NYU as a playground for rich kids, which is kind of true. However, it's only that expensive because you are paying for some of the best--fantastic education that is well respected in the global community, numerous dining halls with really good quality (Asian, sandwiches, health food, Italian, desserts, homey, etc.), all of the clubs and organizations that make it possible to stand out on your future endeavors, volunteer projects to help the community, sports equipment, etc. You are paying for some of the best professors around, with some of the best research facilities and equipment. The residence halls are, for the most part, air conditioned, private, and spacious (private bathrooms are nice too). It is expensive to live in the city, and even more so to go to NYU, but I think that it should be seen as an investment for your future. NYU is one of the few prestigious colleges in NYC, and a lot of opportunities and money are in NYC. The connections you can make here and NYU's name can get you far in NYC. As I stated previously, you are paying for the diversity to see things in new ways and to experience things you've never experienced. For almost the same price as NYU in NYC, sometimes even less, you can study abroad for a semester in one of NYU's sites abroad. Lastly, NYU has an excellent career center that can hook you up with internships, long-term jobs, short-term jobs, and experience. It's definitely worth it. Plus, the gym membership is pretty awesome. Great gyms.
Tips for prospective students The first few days are tough because you don't know anyone, but neither does anyone else. Once you get into your schedule, you'll start picking up friends according to what you like, such as in class, clubs and sports. And if you're introverted, it won't really work here, because with so many students you need to speak up and make yourself stand out. Also, make sure you take full advantage of your resources. NYU has so many resources, and the job market is competitive, so you should try and make yourself more interesting by taking up activities and getting relevant experience under your belt. College grades DO matter, especially when you're an undergraduate and you will probably change your major. When you go into college, maybe you think you're going to major in something simple where grades don't matter, but maybe after a year you'll realize you want to be a doctor and have to apply to medical school. Always remember why you're paying $56,000. If you're going to goof off, go to a cheap school.
Great for these types of students Generally, people who are bright, motivated, outgoing, mature, creative, open-minded, independent, and confident will succeed here. If you are bright and motivated you will do well, and if you are outgoing and confident you will form relations with your peers and professors. The mature and independent attitude is necessary because there are a lot of distractions in the city. Creativity and open-mindedness is necessary because of the diversity at NYU. This is definitely not the college for someone who wants the classic college campus experience with frat parties and no other people besides students. It's also good for people who work well with stress.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot NYU is a great university with many resources available for its students. The professors that taught my Economics and Political Science courses were fantastic - they were all brilliant, and were very concerned with the practicality of the subjects they taught in the real world.
Did enjoy being here I loved being at NYU, and living in New York City. NYU is located in Greenwich Village, which provides the students with a more relaxing environment, despite being in the middle of NYC.
Bang for the buck NYU is a great school; however, I think if I'm going to be paying upwards of $50,000 for school every year, I should be able to take more than 4 classes a semester.
Tips for prospective students NYU is a place where you do your own thing and where you're respected for it. If you want to go places, and you want to make your own luck, NYU is defintely the place to be. You will make tons of connections with students studying in various industries - mutual connections that will last.
Great for these types of students NYU is a great university for students with initiative, and for students who are not looking for the traditional college/campus experience.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It amazes me how hungry my brain is for more these days!
Am enjoying being here During summer breaks, I dream about moving back in on-campus and resuming my studies!
Bang for the buck I will admit, it's a pretty penny, but worth it! The reputation of NYU is far-reaching in NUMEROUS fields of study!
Tips for prospective students First and foremost, be sure you consider all that NYU has to offer from every possible source you can find. It's a great help to read-up on the website, talk to current/past students, send in requests for brochures, and actually visit the campus. Do not allow any one factor to deter you from what I believe to be one of the most prestigious universities in the country. The cost to attend is pretty steep for the typical family, but NYU is great about really assisting where possible in financial aid. Don't be shy about reaching out to local organizations, businesses, and even your high school (guidance counselor/school-to-career coordinator) for scholarships. Usually, when they see a motivated student, they are more than happy to help out. If you're unsure about what you want to do, NYU is a great place to really find yourself. The school is set up in such a way that you can take a wide variety of courses so if you don't know where you're headed exactly, don't worry. And New York City is a wonderful place to just be YOU! Any and everybody is accepted here and NYU falls into that same quota. You can be who you are and not worry about people judging you. Diversity is not only accepted here, but encouraged. Please, just be sure not to let one sole reason make or break your decision to attend. Consider all things possible and go with what feels right. Sometimes, when visiting the campuses of your college choices, you can instantly feel if you're going to be at home when you attend! Good luck!
Great for these types of students Outgoing, vibrant personalities will blossom in the NYU/New York City environment. And even for the shy, reserved types, NYU can be a perfect fit because it is a place that encourages making connections with people. In many cases, it happens effortlessly. It helps to be independent, focused, and a person who exercises self-restraint. New York City is literally the city that NEVER sleeps. Therefore, there's always something to do. That can be detrimental if you're not careful. Be sure you have everything in order as far as your academics are concerned. It's easy to forget the real reason why you chose NYC/NYU: your education. And ultimately, this school is perfect for you if you love being your own person. Individuality is a cherished gem at NYU!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you're looking to be challenged, NYU should not disappoint, they offer a very challenging curriculum. I have tons of reading and most of the classes I've taken have been really interesting but that all depends on which classes you take. NYU has the tools for you to learn about just about any topic that interests you, just be aware that you'll have to take some initiative to access those tools on your own.
Am enjoying being here NYU isn't a very close-knit community so it's very easy to get lost in the crowd, especially if most of your classes are big lecture classes, so you have to take a lot of the initiative for making friends and having fun, but if you're willing to do that you can have a great time. Living in the heart of new york city means there's tons to do if you're willing to pay for it, though being under 21 is somewhat restrictive.
Bang for the buck The educational experience is fantastic but it's also one of the most expensive school in the country, if not the world, so you definitely have to factor that in.
Tips for prospective students Ask questions if you want information or advice, don't expect the answers to come to you.
Great for these types of students NYU is great for hardworking students who don't mind being in a really big school. If you love New York City, or think you would, you'll probably have a great time here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Academically speaking, I am learning a lot in my first semester at New York University. I am enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and am busy both completing the school's requirements and my major requirements. I am also taking a Freshman Honor's Seminar, which I highly recommend to anyone planning on attending. While this class is challenging and demanding, I thoroughly enjoy doing the assignments and readings. It is teaching me to be a more well-rounded student and really work on my writing and time-management skills. The MAP (Morse Academic Plan) requirements can be a bit annoying but even as someone who doesn't enjoy science, i love my science class and professor. Since the class is for non-majors, he makes it easier for us to understand and makes people WANT to come to a 120 person lecture. Each week I see a real life example of something from one of my classes and that is probably one of the greatest feelings, to feel that I can apply what I am learning about to life around me. Overall, the classes are most definitely demanding, but if one wasn't looking for that, they wouldn't have come to NYU. The school is truly stimulating my mind and I can honestly say that I am learning a lot and applying it to the world around me.
Am enjoying being here I am certainly enjoying being here. I live about an hour away but still live on campus and everyone in my dorm and on my floor are nice and friendly. Everyone leaves their doors open and one is free to walk in and out of each others dorms to chat and hang out. There are many events going on each and every week. For example, yesterday each dorm had a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, paid for and catered by NYU. There is always either a school sponsored or some other social event going on because, after all, this is New York City, the city that never sleeps. Being surrounded by all of these amazing events and opportunities helps to motivate oneself to do their work in advance so that they can enjoy the city.
Bang for the buck Of course, NYU is most definitely not a cheap school. In truth, I feel as if I am mostly paying for the name of the school and to live in the greatest city in the world. Tuition is certainly ridiculous and an extreme challenge for me to handle, although I did receive a small scholarship from the school. I am looking to outside sources to help pay for my tuition. In truth, the tuition I pay is to be challenged academically while being able to enjoy the extraordinary city surrounding me. 50,000+ per year is still ridiculous, though.
Tips for prospective students Some tips i would give to prospective students are to plan ahead. Start looking for scholarships in advance so that you aren't stuck in a jam and not able to go to class because your bill isn't paid. In regards to work, try to step a little bit outside of your comfort zone and take classes that challenge you academically. They may be difficult and stressful while you are taking them, but when the semester is over you will be proud of yourself and the work you've done. The advisers are very helpful and so is talking to other students about which classes and professors to choose. The best tip of all is don't procrastinate!!!
Great for these types of students New York University is a great school for those students that are ready for a challenge, both academically and socially. It is a huge school and filled with many different types of people. The key is finding the people that you most enjoy being with (which isn't so hard) and activities that you truly enjoy. Active students are definitely sure to find a good fit here, as there is always something to do both on and off campus. Academically, students who show a strong sense of work ethics and willingness to learn would fit in very well at NYU.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students Those thinking of attending here, be sure you can support yourself financially. Apply to as many scholarships as you can to fulfill the fees and tuition. At first, NYU may seem a bit intimidating with the amount of work and new responsibilities that arise, but as time progresses, you will get used to them. Do Not Procrastinate. If you need to pay a bill, be sure to get on that. Never settle for less. If you need help with anything at all such as a homework or paper, go seek help. There are many opportunities for a student to get help. Be sure to grasp these chances because NYU is not cheap so make your tuition count! Getting used to the environment may be intimidating but have an open-mind. NYU is full of diversity. Do not judge a book by its cover! Most people are very friendly and/or shy. If you are interested in this school, be sure to write every single extracurricular activities/ volunteer work/ hobbies that you can think of.
Visit the school! Even though NYU has a prestigious reputation, it may not be the right atmosphere for you. Be sure that the school you want to go to will satisfy your social and academic needs.
Lastly, be smart, economically smart and street smart. Although there are many security guards and cars around, don't go anywhere unsafe alone. Always be with a group of friends if you go anywhere.Great for these types of students NYU is a great school if you are open-minded and determined. This school has many opportunities to further your knowledge. You should be willing to learn new things. This school is not easy. Be sure you are willing to keep up with the work and responsibilities. NYU is full of diverse personalities and various opportunities to express yourself.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The quality of teachers here is outstanding, they are all working professionals in their field, and experts at what they teach. They also have a new writing program that each student must take, this class completely changes how you write an essay, and how you think about writing.
Am enjoying being here On top of the great school it is located in the heart of Manhattan. Being in New York adds a lot to the college experience, Washington Square Park, and Union Square are each a couple blocks from where I live, such central landmarks and easy access across the city makes going to college that much better.
Bang for the buck NYU is expensive, there is no getting around that, however I think they do a good job of returning the money in quality of education. I was excited to go to every single one of my classes, and learned a lot in each one. On top of the great teachers and great education NYU offers many free and fun activities on campus, free movie screenings for the students (often with celebrity actors, writers, and directors), speeches, lectures, and lots more interesting events.
Tips for prospective students NYU offers a lot of intensive programs for motivated students, they have a number of schools, including Tisch Scool of the Arts, Stern school of Business, Steinhart School of Music, College of Arts and Sciences, and more. Make sure you are aware of all the opportunities and programs available before applying. Also don't count yourself out if you don't have the best grades or test score, NYU is a very open-minded school, they place a lot of value on extracurriculars, and they have some very interesting essay questions, created specifically to help the students show their creativity and personality.
Great for these types of students NYU is a big school, numbering around 50,000 that can be very intimidating, plus it is located in New York City, so make sure you comfortable around large groups of people. NYU has lots of opportunities, amazing connections with great opportunities for internships and job, if you are a go-getter and don't get easily overwhelmed then NYU is the perfect place for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am Tisch film and television student at NYU, and I am definitely in the right place to study the media and entertainment. One thing I love abut NYU is that immediately upon your arrival freshman year you begin classes in your major. From day one I began taking classes on screen writing, acting and cinema. The information I learned in these classes was invaluable. Most of my professors were industry professionals, so they knew what they were talking about. Under their tutelage I went beyond the textbooks and lectures to create my own projects and ideas. I love the fact that I was encouraged to take what I learn in the classroom on to the streets of New York, and really utilize it. Don't get me wrong not all the learning is hands on and away from the books. I still have midterms and finals, but with small classes and understanding professors (especially in Tisch) I was prepared for them. Outside of Tisch my professors encouraged us to use their office hours and TA tutors if we ever needed extra help. The Writing Center is always available to help revise papers and the Learning Center offers tutoring in nearly every subject if you need it.
Am enjoying being here I am enjoying going to school here, however certain things are not what I expected them to be. Its definitely hard to find a close community of friends. If you don't get along with your floor mates the first week or so, you will probably have to look elsewhere for that community you feel comfortable around. Since the school is so large, you will most likely find that place to belong, it just might take awhile. Don't be discouraged by the cliques. NYU isn't big on sports or greek life so don't expect it to be huge presence on campus. I was never into that stuff much so I don't mind its near non-existence. I love being in the city. There is always something to do and always some restaurant open if you need a midnight snack. Everything is so close or just a train ride away, I never have to travel far.
Bang for the buck So I completely agree with those who say NYU is overpriced. It cost nearly 20 grand a semester plus room and board, not many people can afford that. The truth is not many students here can afford it themselves, but most of us struggle through each semester pushing towards senior year. Somehow we know graduating from NYU will be worth it. The job placement rate after graduation is very high even in Tisch (the art school). The opportunities that are opened to you as a graduate of NYU are nearly endless. Short story....I was talking to a film producer the other day, and she told me when she has to hire editors, art directors, actors etc. she always flags the resumes of NYU graduates. Those individuals in her words having something more. Most often she hires them on the spot. Thats what NYU education gets you, not just a prestigious name, but something more that will put you ahead of the other job seekers.
Tips for prospective students Be different. Try to take on leadership roles and volunteering opportunities that make you stand out. Its not just about high grades and test scores.
P.S. Start applying for outside scholarships as soon as you have sent in your application. You are going to need them.Great for these types of students Anyone (as long as you don't mind not having a foot ball team)

I'm learning so much.
Im having a great time at this college!Tips for prospective students Plan ahead financially and academically. Make sure you keep an open mind and get involved! Participate in on-campus activities and network! Your classmates are the next leaders!
Academic Rigor These classes are tough. But don't worry! The professors are so amazing, that the work doesn't seem as hard anymore. They have a serious interest in each student and its really clear that they want you to succeed.
Dorm Life The dorms are cool. Almost all of them are apartment style, fully loaded kitchens and bathrooms and bedrooms. There is a resource center in each dorm, and the staff members are great! The dorms are located in the best parts of town and are convenient to subways.
Food and Dining The food is good. There are so many dining halls and they all offer something different. Thats why the food is so good, they are so many options! Pizza, wraps, sushi, smoothies, sandwiches, pasta, etc. They have literally ANYTHING you want.
What to do for fun Its New York! There are sooooo many things to do in this city and most of it is right around the corner from NYU. The school is located in lower Manhattan. There are so many clubs, restaurants, shops, and theaters in the area. You'll run out of energy before you run out of things to do!
Bang for the buck NYU is very expensive. However, it is worth it. There is so much more to NYU than just your classes. You learn alot in class, but most of what I've learned has been from my experiences with my classmates outside of class, roaming around the city and meeting so many great people at campus activities. NYU is worth all the money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Like I said earlier, its New York. Your gonna see lots of unusual people and happenings, but it'll be fun none the less.
Great for these types of students Any type of student will fit in at NYU. There are so many schools like Tisch School of the Arts for the creative mind, Stern School of Business for our future moguls, and so many more. Everyone is welcome!
Clubs and Activities There are thousands, yes, thousands of clubs and activities at NYU. Anything you can think of, we have a club for it. The Dog Lovers Club, the Beach Club, MusicSoul Club, its all here.
Greek Life Almost every greek organization is here on our campus. Simple as that.
Campus Safety There are little purple and white cop cars everywhere! Campus security guards are always around, but they're so cool. They know students by name and are really sweet and helpful, you'll need them when you get lost on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences new york university is an academically strenuous and challenging school in the heart of downtown new york city. the campus is new york city, with lots of grand old buildings, mainly centered around washington square park. each of their programs are superior to most schools and the workload expected of the students can be daunting at times.
Tips for prospective students the school is not cheap. new york is a tough city and students must be independent, hard workers to make it in the school, and especially in the city upon graduation. nyu and nyc are not good places to mess around. you've got to be serious. and for the amount of money you're paying, you should be. and most likely if you got in, you will be.
Academic Rigor it is difficult to understand how the professors expect the students to possibly get all the work done that they have to, but somehow they manage. the courses are definitely difficult, but the plus side of being in new york city is that many of the professors have connections to the industries the students someday hope to be a part of, allowing room for connections and even some in-class field work. new york is pretty much the center of the world, with the forefront of virtually every industry based there.
Dorm Life there are enough opportunities to get involved in dorm life, but most likely, you will have so much work to do that you wont have time for this. be choosey and save time for what you especially enjoy. ny is a big city, and there is a lot to do off campus.
Food and Dining food in the dining halls is fine. but, if you can afford it, there are some really spectacular restaurants in greenwich village and beyond. there are also lots of spectacular cheap places to visit. dining in new york is a thrilling hunt that continues in each neighborhood you visit. basically, there is too much good food out there to eat in dining halls all the time.
What to do for fun the city might be the best thing about the school. people are always on the streets at every hour and it is impossible to be bored. there are 1000s of restaurants, museums, parks, libraries, landmarks, shops and activities to choose from. the school is centered around some very cool neighborhoods (east village, west village, soho, gramercy, tribecca, midtown, chelsea, ect.) but new york is an island filled with something for everyone. the subway makes for easy transportation and city biking is also an option. this is a hard paragraph to respond to because there are too many answers. new york has something for everyone.
Bang for the buck the school is dramatically more expensive than any school ever should be. it's a joke and who knows how they get away with it. a lot of rich kids go to school here, but there are also a lot of average kids who want it bad enough that they make sacrifices. the best things about the school are 1) the city it is located in, 2) the connections that the professors have to the industries 3) the other students you meet that have a passion for their field as much as you do. those are the things that make nyu stimulating and inspiring.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus flurry is an ice skating party that kicks off the winter season at woolman rink in central park and it is super fun. it's a free event and there is a candy tent, where you can stuff a bag full of candy: for free!
Great for these types of students hard working driven students. people who find a way and never give up. people who will sacrifice their love lives for the sake of their careers. people who want to be the best. people that want to create something exceptional. people that love an urban environment.
Clubs and Activities there are about a million clubs at the school. many ways to get involved in whatever it is that you like. there is also an exceptional (expensive) study abroad program that no one has ever had a negative word about. there are alumni programs that will help you find a job, and great career services to benefit from.
Greek Life there are some fraternities and sororities, but joining them is not necessary to be accepted at the university community.
Campus Safety it's great. there are nyu busses, security guards everywhere, and if you ever need a ride from one nyu location to another, usually late at night, security will pick you up and take you to your desired on campus location. the security staff is relatively friendly, but this is ny.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Being a rising school in New York City, NYU attracts a lot of amazing faculty members, and a lot of great research opportunities. Whether you want social or physical science research, you're in good company here.
Am enjoying being here Admittedly, New York City isn't right for everyone. If you're looking for a lively campus life especially with a Greek life, then NYU isn't for you. The school is too large and too diverse in interests for one to be swept up in campus spirit, and have a stereotypical college campus life. It doesn't help that there isn't a quad, although Washington Square Park is the unofficial quad of NYU. Everyone here is fairly independent, but it's possible to find your niche. Chances are though, it just won't be easy.
Bang for the buck NYC=a hefty price tag. It's a school with a nice name, but unless you're going to Stern or are on a pre professional track it's a bit too expensive if you can barely afford it. The price, especially of dorms, plays a huge part in the fact that some students sleep in the library. You'll often hear students complaining about tuition rates. I recommend dorming your first year, then renting an apartment in a cheap area of NYC like Alphabet City or Chinatown. You should consider outside boroughs too, although transportation is a bit of a pain. You'll get used to it though.
Tips for prospective students The professors generally tend to be on the harsher side for grades, so make sure to keep on top of your work and ask plenty of questions! Get internships at NYU academic departments or outside companies (and apply them for credit too), go to museums, and take advantage of discount Broadway tickets. Take full advantage of being in New York City, and the price will be worth it in the end. Take a class outside of your intended major-- you might end up loving it.
Great for these types of students Be very proactive and self-directed. It's a bit harder to meet people here compared to other colleges with campus life. Also, you're one in forty thousand people. Stand out. Go to your Professors' office hours. Seriously.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot NYU, with its many schools, offers countless opportunities for students of all majors and interests. In addition, many students come from out-of-state and international, providing a very diverse learning environment.
Will enjoy being here I love NYU for its location and the convenience and opportunities that come with it. It's easy to get around the city via subway, bus, taxi, or just by walking.
Bang for the buck NYU is known for its financial aid not being all that great. My financial aid package from NYU was considerably less than many of the offers from my other accepted colleges. It's fair enough, I guess.
Great for these types of students Urban

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I definitely have learned a lot at NYU. I'm just about to finish my freshman year here at their Paris campus. That's one of the things I really love about NYU - the fact that they will offer freshman study abroad programs to a select few. It's really wonderful being able to leave home and explore Europe on your own while learning liberal studies. I've learned how to more deeply analyze when I read books or watch films. The teachers are, for the most part, inspiring and insightful.
Am enjoying being here I am really enjoying myself here. At the moment, I am at the Paris campus finishing up my freshman year. I really appreciate the fact that NYU gave me a chance to come to this city. They're aiming to create more of a global community at the school. I meet people from all over the world. Everyone knows at least two languages, and everyone is able to give more of a global perspective on issues brought up in class.
Bang for the buck So far, NYU has impressed me in the classroom, but they can be difficult in the office - especially if you are in need of a lot of financial aid like me. From what I've seen personally, it is unfortunately assumed there often that students there are very well-off and can deal with the costs of tuition.
Tips for prospective students If you are in need of financial aid, just keep in mind that NYU does not give full tuition. They can be difficult, but it is nice to say that you are a student at NYU. I guess you could say it adds a little oomph to your resume.
Great for these types of students If you want to broaden your senses, definitely try to go on one of the study abroad programs here. It is a life-changing experience.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A prestigious institution of higher learning that offers amazing opportunities for advancement and growth. Located in the center of it all, the absence of a traditional campus may be intimidating for some students. If you're a self-started, determined, and highly motivated, you will do well here.
Tips for prospective students NYU isn't for the timid or faint of heart. It's a huge school, so if you're not one to get things done for yourself you may be left on the sidelines. Don't let this happen! There are plenty of helpful, nice people––you just have to be sure to grab their attention and let them know you exist.
Academic Rigor As people say, You get out what you put in. Yes, it is possible to coast through certain courses if the professors are lenient, but most are not. The more effort and attention you give to your studies, the more knowledge you'll walk away with.
Dorm Life I don't live in student housing.
Food and Dining It's New York City. The food ranges from gourmet fine dining to street meat and french fries. Regardless of your budget or palate, there will be options for you.
What to do for fun Explore the city and take advantage of all the amazing free events and entertainment opportunities offered by NYU and other non-affiliated groups and projects.
Bang for the buck As I said before, you really get out of it what you put into it. It's popular to complain about the high cost of studying at New York University, but most the people complaining don't realize what they get for that tuition. It isn't just the professors you're paying, it's access to one of the finest research libraries in the world, career placement resources, regular speaking and networking events that aren't offered anywhere else.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus NYU is notorious for not having a traditional campus. You won't find a quad or courtyard with tables to sit and chat. You won't find grassy hills on which to sprawl and study. But there are some more... mysterious traditions at NYU, many of which are rumored to be rooted in the history of the Height's Campus. Dragons, Heretics, and Ravens move about unnoticed by most, but exist without a doubt.
Great for these types of students Students who will preform best at New York University are those who are determined, motivated, and hardworking. It's possible to succeed and be only one of those things (or maybe even none), but those students with a singularity of mind and passion for learning will be rewarded for their efforts.
Clubs and Activities Tons. Of. Stuff. To. Do. Seriously. There are clubs for nearly anything you can think of, from wine tasting to politics to celebrity appreciation.
Greek Life Although perhaps not as Greek-y as other schools due to the non-traditional campus set up, there is no shortage of Greek Life events and groups at NYU. They throw parties, charity events, and service the community. As noted above, there are also some lesser known societies on campus whose members are more subtle about their association.
Campus Safety It's in the heart of the Greenwich Village and there are enough Campus Security employees around to lay siege to Fort Knox. It's safe as the City can be.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences NYU has awesome connections and opportunities. Its location is prime for internships and jobs. Even though it's a large school, it still has a wonderful sense of community.
Tips for prospective students Budget your money; don't become overwhelmed by the other students because people can be very competitive here; worry about yourself, and you should be fine
Academic Rigor The academics here are top par. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because the professors are so well qualified and helpful that they try to make things easier for you; i.e. explaining things very well, breaking things down, giving real world examples
Dorm Life I love the sense of community in the dorms. There are 1,100 people in my dorm, yet I feel like I know everyone. People are super friendly.
Food and Dining Kimmel has the best food, in my opinion. The white pizza is to die for, and the salad bar has great selection.
What to do for fun Well, you are in New York City, so you have numerous options; i.e see a broadway show, see a sports game, go to a concert, go to a movie, walk the town, go to a club, etc.
Bang for the buck NYU has an awesome reputation with employers, so even though it's an expensive school, I believe that you really get your bang for you buck when you graduate and get an awesome job.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The dorms are very spread out across the city, so it's nice to visit friends all over Manhattan. It's just an awesome location to go to school.
Great for these types of students Studious, hard-working, diligent, not easily overwhelmed or stressed, time managers, etc.
Clubs and Activities NYU literally has any club you can think of (Quidditch club, cupcake clubs, comedy clubs, etc.) If NYU doesn't have the club you're looking for, then you can create one.
Greek Life The Lafayette dorm houses the Greek Life at NYU, and because we are in the city, instead of Frat/Sorority houses there are pent houses! How cool is that?
Campus Safety I never feel threatened or unsafe at NYU. The Public Safety team does a fantastic job, and most of the Public Safety officers were part of the NYPD.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences New York University (NYU) is definitely the school for all-around excellence and academic diversity. The opportunities offered by NYU are once-in-a-lifetime experiences and NYU has fantastic study abroad options. If you love to travel and wish to see the world, then NYU is a great choice.
Tips for prospective students Do your best in school. Even if you think the class is nominal to your success, you may regret not completing that term paper to the best of your ability. Also, never give up hope. Just because its a prestigious university, NYU looks for diversity and leadership skills. If you can be unique and show exceptional leadership work, you should be all set.
Academic Rigor NYU is definitely going to put you to work. Even if you're not in an Honors program, all classes will be tough, so study hard and do your best. You'll do fine!
Dorm Life You're living in New York City, what else can you ask for?
Food and Dining There are many eateries on campus. In addition, Chinatown and Little Italy are further downtown on the 6 Subway and there are many cafes and little shops in the city.
What to do for fun There are always fun things to do in New York City. Go ice skating at Rockefeller Center, go up the Empire State Building, take a walk in Central Park, eat in Chinatown, or go see a Sunday matinee on Broadway, New York is full of fun opportunities always.
Bang for the buck Although NYU is quite expensive, the opportunities and education the student receives is exceptional. First, all professors live on campus with the students in order to build a lasting professor-student relationship beyond the classroom. Second, the opportunities for study abroad are never-ending and the extra costs are for the travel expenses and a little bit for the room & board in the foreign country.
Campus Safety I was impressed with the university, seeing as it is in New York City, by how they handled security. There are always New York University Police on site and in vans keeping the students of NYU safe. All university buildings require a student ID badge to enter excluding the library and visitor center.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As far as education goes, I've always been very academic, but it's different here. I'm not going to class and learning because I have to, but because I want to. There are, obviously, some required classes, but with the right instructor, the challenging coursework seems manageable.
My first semester was very difficult because the professor and I had different styles--her teaching didn't match my learning--but my second semester--in the second part of that class--I found it much easier since I switched professors. The amount of teachers to choose from--in some classes--definitely helps and it's easy to find someone that will inspire you to go to class regularly.Am enjoying being here It's definitely harder for me since I'm a shy person. I'm the type that wants to be approached and doesn't know how to approach others, so it impairs me socially. However, as hard as making friends is in general--you really have to find your own way here--I think finding communities to fit into is fairly easy. Meeting someone at dining halls, at the gym, or in a club you care about--there are numerous ways to find people you'll easily interact with, you just need to put in the effort.
Bang for the buck I am in over my head with student loans, but I beam with pride whenever someone asks where I study. The school is highly esteemed and will prepare you for whatever you may be studying. I would recommend transferring in for your junior year, though. It's an amazing school, but with the lack of financial aid, it may be easier to just graduate from NYU--it's the diploma that counts after all.
Tips for prospective students I would definitely consider how much financial aid you receive and figure out whether the difference can be made up in student loans. I used an immediate repayment plan for my first two years, but I can no longer afford to do so. I would recommend this since it saves you thousands of dollars in the long run--it's just a matter of budgeting properly for the monthly installments.
However, if you can afford to go to school here for all four years, I say go for it. Dorm the first year, get a feel for the city, and then, if you can, find an apartment for the duration of your academic career here. It's really something to experience.
I also think that you need to check out the club fest and go to as many meetings as possible. There's never any pressure and if you don't like what you see, you don't have to keep going. Find what you love and make as many connections as possible.
Most importantly, keep some balance! Stay focused, but have some fun--just don't go overboard. Go party crazy during orientation, but then figure out what works for you for the remainder of the semester.Great for these types of students You have got to be independent, strong-willed, and eager to do just about anything. You'll see just about everything here, so keep an open mind, but be smart! If you like unpredictable, this is definitely the place to be.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot NYU is a very large university, with about 20,000 undergraduate students. Although there are a great deal of students, NYU manages to keep many of its classes relatively small, which is conducive to learning. The university stresses a solid liberal arts foundation, so you learn way more then just your major, regardless of what school you are in.
Am enjoying being here NYU is a very enjoyable place. There is an abundance of work that needs to be done for your classes, but there is still plenty of time to enjoy yourself. The university has a variety of activities such as sports teams and clubs. NYU's location is ideal because it is right in Manhattan, which allows for students to take full advantage of all the city has to offer, from its restaurants, museums, theaters, and sports teams.
Bang for the buck NYU isn't a cheap school, and its financial aid is not highly regarded. However, it is one of the top universities in the nation. You need to think of the money you spend to attend NYU as an investment. You are going to have to pay a great deal of money, but in the long run, it may be worth it. Still, there are other universities that are ranked higher and give better financial aid, which is definitely something to think about.
Tips for prospective students NYU isn't for everyone. If you are expecting a green campus with grass and trees like you see in all the movies, you're coming to the wrong place. Also, don't be afraid to apply. A lot of students who attend NYU never thought that they would be accepted in a million years. If you want to come, you should definitely apply, because you really never know what going to happen.
Great for these types of students Any student planning to major in art, business, philosophy, and nutrition. NYU has highly ranked programs in these fields.

Will enjoy being here New York City is a metropolis and a fun city to be in. It can be a little overwhelming, but what you need to remember, like anywhere really, is to just put yourself out there a little and be a bit more proactive in talking to people and you'll probably like it better.
Bang for the buck Since it is a state university, it is more affordable than a private school or other nationally recognized university.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences NYU is a historic but progressive school. The campus is completely embedded in the city landscape. The professors are unique and available to their students.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you get a good financial aid package because tuition is pricey! The loans can help cover some of the costs. However, graduate students receive less help scholarship wise.
Academic Rigor Academic wise it is up to par with a lot of the Ivy universities and exceeds the CUNY system. I have heard mixed reviews from the former student body. Nevertheless, NYU is intense and to be respected!
Dorm Life Not dorming; Still, I imagine life would be fun in the doors since all of NYC is outside your door. This I would assume also poses a challenge since too much of a good thing can be a distraction. Time management and prioritizing are key.
Food and Dining With all of NYC dining at one's disposal- can anyone really say anything negative about this food? Variety beyond words. Still, budget must be considered because eating out can be pricey.
What to do for fun EVERYTHING! Shopping is endless. Art must be experienced at the Met and MOMA. Music and the ballet must be experienced at Lincoln Center.
Bang for the buck Everyone is familiar with NYU and it's reputation. Is this school considered an Ivy school, no? But will it place you on par with individuals who did go to Ivy schools? Yes.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Not familiar with any. I am excited to see them. I may only experience them from a far, however. As a future grad student, I may not get the chance!
Great for these types of students This school is ideal for those who think outside the box. This school is ideal for individuals who want to concentrate on learning while having non-traditional fun. Because sports and the like are limited, one must find a social experience outside the campus.
Clubs and Activities Lots of clubs and activities! NYU teachers and students are great at networking. This is a definite plus, when considering job placement after school.
Greek Life Not familiar with. The frats and soro. are available but one must seek them out. They are not always for everyone.
Campus Safety Considering the school is in the heart of Greenwich village, which can get seedy at night, the school does a great job of keeping students safe. Adequate lighting and verified access to facilities ensures only NYU students are able to access the campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences NYU is very welcoming. I received great advice and help from anyone that I asked. It's such a beautiful place to learn and grow as a blossoming adult.
Tips for prospective students I have not yet attended classes, so i don't have any.
What to do for fun See a Broadway Show or a comic perform, watch city performers, and visit the many places that only New York has, such as Ripley's Believe it or not, or Madam T's wax museum.
Bang for the buck It's worth every penny in my opinion! I'd rather pay til i'm sixty to attend this school, than go anywhere else for free.
Great for these types of students This is a great place for anyone that enjoys life and art and is creative and open minded as well as intellectuals who value education and knowledge.
Clubs and Activities There isn't a single person who won't find a home here. There is a club for everyone and if there isn't you can make your own that others will attend! There's something for everyone here.
Campus Safety I know i can walk anywhere around my campus and feel safe and protected. I feel no fear or discomfort here.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences New York University is truly an exceptional and diverse school. Although there is no campus, the school still has a great sense of community and ample resources for students. No matter what division you are enrolled in, you will learn a lot and have lots of opportunities for internships, volunteer work, clubs, etc.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you immerse yourself in New York culture and enjoy all the museums, foods, festivals there are. The quality of professors can vary, so be sure to ask around about which ones you should take. Work hard and pay attention to class and you should do fine.
What to do for fun There are many things you can do such as street fairs, concerts, museums, movies, art galleries, shopping, and much more. Just walk around town and you'll definitely find something to do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences NYU is a community of creative minds, people from all backgrounds imaginable. We pride ourselves in diversity, and an open-minded, accepting community. Almost any sough-for major is available at NYU, with countless options, and opportunities.
Tips for prospective students Be open to all opportunities, as there are so many of them. You are in the city that never sleeps, but don't forget your academics. Generally, NYU is very safe, but once again, you are in the city, an open campus, and you should approach certain matters with caution.
Academic Rigor Don't be deceived by the little amount of work you seemingly have. Before you know it, it piles up, many deadlines come up at once, and then you are in trouble. Professors are generally very helpful, but also very busy with many other students (mostly if you are in big science courses), so make sure to take the initiative to talk to your professors.
Dorm Life Generally you'll feel safe, which is the most important thing. As for the roommate...well, there is all types of people. Mostly, you yourself chooses how you want your relationship with your roommate to be - that is, how close you want to be with that person. Freshman year everyone is friends with everyone, very social....as you progress people stick with their small group of friends, and most doors to rooms are closed.
Food and Dining Many options, for all tastes. But don't fall for the deadly fast-food routine.
What to do for fun Over 500 clubs.....find one and join in! Also, you're in the city - if you have the time go out and explore, or you know, just go out. Like I said, it's the city.
Great for these types of students Artsy, creative, free-spirits, independent, green, .....all sorts really.
Clubs and Activities Over 500 clubs to choose from.
Greek Life There is one...just don't know them personally. Also, we're not particularly known for them, but I know e have them.
Campus Safety I generally feel safe, but it is an open campus in the city, so one must be mindful.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A lot of prospective students have a general idea of what their dream school would look like, yet have their doubts when it comes to finding it in the realm of actuality. Going into college, I was one of those kids whose eyes were wide open but unsure where to look. With NYU, I can say with certainty that there is a dream school out there, or that I at least found mine.
Tips for prospective students Don't second guess yourself! NYU looks for a diverse student body and looks far beyond things like GPA and academic profile. If you have the desire to go there, it's more than worth a try.
Academic Rigor NYU's courses are apprehensive in a way that provides enough challenge to keep any motivated student busy and stimulated.
Dorm Life NYU's dorms are scattered throughout New York City and are, for the most part, top of the line. The relations you make living in the dorms are invaluable and can really shape your college experience.
Food and Dining The dining halls, for those who wish to utilize them, are stocked with a variety of choices designed to suit anyone's fancy. From kosher to vegan dining, you can find a dining hall at NYU that'll suit your needs with relative ease.
What to do for fun NYU is in New York City, enough said. There is never a time where there isn't something to do or somewhere to go--if you ever get even the slightest bit bored, you're probably not doing something right.
Bang for the buck The large part of NYU's reputation comes from the fact that it is so expensive. For what is offered, the school is definitely worth it, though the financial aspect of attendance must be taken into consideration.
Great for these types of students Anyone who wants an immersive college experience--those who want firsthand knowledge of the world and what they're getting into from those who are best-equipped to give it to them.
Clubs and Activities There are special interest groups and clubs for honestly anything you could ask for and, if there's something you find to be missing, you're free to start a club of your own!
Greek Life Greek life is somewhat scarce at NYU; it's there of course, but not incredibly popular and maintains a less-than-respectable reputation.
Campus Safety NYU's campus is New York City, where one must expect the unexpected. While it's not exactly forbidden to prowl the streets at night, one must keep their own personal safety in mind as they would if they were anywhere else.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences NYU is a university on its own level. You will not be able to find a college like this anywhere. The opportunities, the people you'll meet, the classes you'll take, the places you'll go, the relationships you'll make, and the challenges that will come your way are just part of the unique NYU experience that will stick with you for the rest of your life.
Tips for prospective students In addition to taking tours, try to see if there are tours available for your specific major. For example, prospective Film/TV majors have tours specific to them
Academic Rigor You WILL be challenged here. This is definitely several steps above high school but you'll come out of your classes ready for the next semester. You'll have professors and TAs that will work with you outside of class to make sure that you're doing okay. There's also student-run tutoring services and a writing center for professors to read over and give constructive criticism to your essay.
Dorm Life It's amazing! Hayden, Weinstein, and Third North have the best dining halls. Weinstein's dining hall is open until 3am four days a week! Third North has amazing breakfast and Hayden has the greatest cookies. Socially, Hayden and Third North are where you want to be. There's ALWAYS something happening at either dorm. Founders, Third North (and now University Hall) are the furthest freshman dorms from the center of campus. It's about a 10-15 minute walk but they're in such prime areas for nightlife, food, and shopping compared to other dorms that the walk really isn't a big deal. Plus there is an NYU bus system that runs almost all day that will take you to class or to any NYU building. Goddard is the freshman dorm literally in the middle of everything: the campus Starbucks, across from Stern, and Bobst Library. You have to apply to live in Goddard, though. Rubin has amazing practice spaces and study spaces for those of your artsy/Tisch people but the dining hall...eh not so great.
Food and Dining Honestly, compared to other college dining halls, NYU is so superior. We have such a global array of foods and anything and everything for those of you late night snackers, vegans/vegetarians/, Kosher only, and more. I personally think Kosher is the best and I'm not even Kosher!
What to do for fun There's always something happening in Washington Square Park so check that out. Go to Coney Island - beautiful for filming or photography. Union Square and SoHo are AMAZING for shopping. Explore the East Village - it has A LOT to offer for everything you need, especially food. Go to a show at Webster Hall. Go to student exhibitions like film showcases or photography showings. Explore Queens and Brooklyn.
Bang for the buck Try not to shop at our bookstore for books unless it's the only place you'll be able to find your books. Try Shakespeare & Co across the street from Tisch or Barnes & Noble to buy or rent books! Also ask upperclassmen and find them on facebook groups - they're always trying to sell their books.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus We have the annual Strawberry Festival - it's very very interesting and super strawberry themed so check it out
Great for these types of students Independent, thrill-seeking, food loving students who are okay with dressing up everyday to walk through a city to get to class. They should be tolerant of other orientations, ethnicities, backgrounds, and more.
Greek Life It's existent but it isn't very prominent like it would be on a typical college campus. They're present but they're not a big part of the social life but they are quite welcoming. There are such a variety of different sororities and fraternities and other forms of Greek Life that would interest anyone.
Campus Safety I have never not felt safe while on campus. There's also public safety that will take students from any NYU building to any NYU building after midnight. They take FOREVER AND A DAY to get to you though so wait inside somewhere. Or take a cab. It was kinda helpful after editing a film until three in the morning.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences They're been great about scheduling and keeping me up to date with current information. They have a lot of Alumni events and I've already had several opportunities to speak with them as well as students I will be in class with. The small class sizes allow you to network and become very close with the other students and professors.
Tips for prospective students The application process can be tough, but it's worth it! Don't be discouraged and be sure to ask a lot of questions.
Academic Rigor It's a lot of work, but interesting fun assignments. You never feel like you're being assigned busy work.
Dorm Life I'm not dorming so its hard for me to comment on it.
Food and Dining There's plenty of options when it comes to food. Being in the center of New York City gives you the option to have anything you're heart desires.
What to do for fun There are plenty of places to check out near by all of the campus sites. Coffee, snacks, libraries. Students also post about upcoming events and often approach other students to ask if they would be interested in attending.
Bang for the buck It's expensive, but having the name on your resume will help with the job search in any field.
Great for these types of students Contemporary mind sets who love city life.
Clubs and Activities I will be happy to update when I have some more experience. However, as a student starting soon, I've already attended many events, gallery openings and alumni networking events.
Campus Safety All campus locations are in very safe locations.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences In the heart of NYC (Greenwich Village)! Great learning environment for studetns who are in and of the world. Personifies the meaning of worldy education through its study abroad programs and various campus sites around the world.
Tips for prospective students This school is not cheap. Make sure that you begin your scholarship searches and applications early, giving yourself ample time to rack up the big bucks.
Academic Rigor NYU means business. Whether you're studying at Tisch for Drama or Business in Stern, you can be expected to be pushed and encouraged to further expand your learning experience. The professors I've spoken to are excited and passionate aboput their respective crafts.
Dorm Life All the freshman dorms I visited exceeded my expecations! The students are excited to show you around and the views from some of the dorms are incomparable.
Food and Dining There are SO many options for dining! There are various food halls that students can gain access to. The city of New York also offers up some great eats.

The school enables you to surround yourself with an incredible culture and also with fantastic artistic experiences. There truly is no school quite like it.
Tips for prospective students Join extracurriculars, it's a great way to make friends!
Academic Rigor Academics are definitely tough, but they are well worth it, and you get out of it as much as you put in.
Dorm Life The Dorms are great! And also really safe.
Food and Dining The dining is pretty good, not fantastic though, and they do a nice job to try and provide variety, but it's a tough job serving food to so many students.
What to do for fun You're in New York! What isn't there to do!
Bang for the buck NYU is definitely expensive and not for everyone, but if you want the amazing college experience while being immersed in an incredible city, there's no where else to be.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences nyu has such a unified main campus and everything is within walking distance. the good thing about this is that while you can get to classes within a matter of minutes, on your free time you can also explore the city, if you are not familiar with it yet. nyu owns so much buildings that when you're walking down the streets of manhattan, you see the representative nyu torch flags flapping in the wind, signaling a nyu affiliated building.
Tips for prospective students it all depends on what specific college you get into within the university because there are major specific curriculum courses that you have to pick from. the writing classes here, i believe, are challenging than most, and it's what most students complain about. however, we have so much resources, like the writing center, that helps you so much, and so you have to take advantage of that. and you might as well, since your tuition and fees money is going towards these resources. what's important is that you should get involved and join many clubs or organizations so that you can meet people, who come here from international countries or even out of state. it's so nice to have these connections with people from different cultures and it would be such a waste not to take advantage of this opportunity.
Academic Rigor again, it all depends on the classes you take. but i would suggest you looks at sample syllabuses if the professors actually post them up and see if the workload is compatible with your other classes. otherwise, you might be taking on more than you're able to. every class has a specific course structure and we follow this very closely. every meeting you go to is of vital importance.
Dorm Life being a commuter, i don't exactly have all the details about dorm life, but from my one night stay at one of the dorms, i find it very comfortable. although you have to share bathrooms and such, it's not that bad. unless you opt for a single, having a roommate should really benefit you on your first semester here. and i hear that every dorm is known for something, so you should research that first before you choose anything.
Food and Dining nyu has a number of dining choices. you could opt for the buffet style dining halls or go to places where they accept campus cash and dining dollars. although you could get a variety of foods across campus, it tends to get somewhat generic because they serve sort of the same food there. but since nyu is situated in the city, you could get cheap eats all around manhattan, so that's another option.
What to do for fun nyu nightlife is awesome! we have washington square park and the huge arch. at night, it looks so beautiful you can't help but take pictures for memory. often, there is always some event going on in kimmel center and you can just walk in and enjoy the night. again, we are in the city, so you can do whatever you want. this is nyc.
Bang for the buck seeing the pricey tuition might make some people think twice about applying, but there are scholarships and funds available. loans are probably inevitable because after all, this is nyu. that's why you have to take advantage of the resources they provide. do everything you can to make it worth it. however, you do need to keep up with your academics so that you keep the financial aid scholarships. that will be the difficult part of this. but study hard and you can do it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus every incoming student has to have at least seen our presidential reality show. you cannot miss it. it's not mandatory but students flock to get the good seats up close and personal. it's hilarious, but its a nonfiction kind of informative performance. these students dance and sing (quite beautifully too!), but at the same time they are dancing and singing about things you should know about campus and things like that. you find yourself grinning from ear to ear because it's so entertaining!
Great for these types of students it's great for people who are academically gifted but at the same time socially inclined. you don't have to be genius smart, but you have to have some knowledge to keep up with everyone else. but don't lock yourself in your room studying all day, you gotta come out and bask in the sunlight!
Clubs and Activities we have so much activities and things to do around here, and i feel that every type of student has some common interest with any clubs here. they host so much events, you find yourself wanting more than 24 hours a day to do everything.
Greek Life greek life apparently doesn't seem to be so known throughout campus because fraternities and sororities are not so high profiled here. but i hear that its respected and its student led organization that actually commits to be involved around the city, volunteering here and there.
Campus Safety we have a public safety office here, and there's also a hotline that you could call for them to pick you up at the wee hours in the morning. i would say we're pretty safe because sometimes you see the nyu public safety vans patrolling the area and it's nice to see that you have protection, although our area doesn't seem to need much watching over. we're pretty safe!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences new york university is a great school for people interested particularly in being active in the new york city community--there are tons of opportunities to volunteer or fight for a campaign you believe in. the teachers are all incredibly helpful and intelligent; the classes, as long as chosen wisely, are fountains of knowledge that can completely change your perspective on the world and society. nyu is a rather loose community as a school, however, but it truly feels like entering the next phase of your life in the midst of nyc rather than settling in for four years at a predictable and normal college.
Tips for prospective students definitely take a tour of the school before or after applying--the city lifestyle doesn't fit everyone, and it's easy to feel lost. but an abundance of clubs and volunteer opportunities make fitting in easy as long as you search for it. you have to quickly learn that your college life will revolve around what you do with it--you can sit in your dorm and wish you were involved, or you can push your way in and make a difference.
Academic Rigor the classes are rather difficult, depending on your field, but none are impossible. ask professors for help or visit them during office hours, because they're always willing to give it. ta's are valuable resources, too. get some numbers from friends in class and help each other out; studying together can be easier than studying alone (as long as you stay focused!).
Dorm Life the dorms are all situated in the midst of downtown manhattan, so there's an endless supply of things to do. the dorms have decent sized rooms (there are also room tours on youtube, i believe, of each dorm), but rather expensive. goddard is the freshman residential college dorm, which provides tons of opportunities to do really cool things--trapeze lessons, community service, seeing broadway plays, etc. however, that dorm requires an application and a dedication to the community.
Food and Dining the food is, overall, alright. kimmel, right on washington square, is one of the best, but also is not buffet style and always has long lines. hayden has the best vegan/vegetarian options. palladium has a sunday brunch with an unending dessert bar (cake and cookies galore!) and also serves good food.
What to do for fun it's nyc! anything is fun. grab a friend and explore, there are hundreds of great restaurants right outside, clubs, libraries, museums, anything you could think of.
Bang for the buck nyu is super expensive--one of the most expensive in the country. however, it's right in nyc, and offers a very unique experience. the classes are wonderful and the city opens up right before you, offering you so many opportunities to intern to gain experience or volunteer.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the school myth is that students who walk through the arch in washington square park will not graduate... and as for unusual locations, there are plenty, from the museum of sex to the oddest food you'll ever taste.
Great for these types of students great for anyone who is really interested in being active in their life--you can't sit back and let college roll by at nyu. everyone is promoting some petition or volunteering or interning or working--you'll feel the need to be involved, too. but even if you thought you hated cities (i know i did), it'll be a good push out of your comfort zone and into the wide world.
Clubs and Activities the city is full of cool experiences, and joining the residential college system gets you straight in to some of those. if that doesn't interest you, however, then nyu has hundreds of clubs. one of the most popular volunteering group is civic team, which requires only 2 hours a week of service, but they hook you right up with a place of your choice (from their list--but they have quite the variety) and you'll easily fit into that community. going to club fest at the beginning of the semester will help in finding a club that's a good fit for you.
Greek Life greek life is not very popular at nyu, but the people i know who are involved with it love it. it's a lot of extra work, depending on the group you choose, but it can build really close bonds and be an easy way to find a community.
Campus Safety even though it's in the city, which is potentially dangerous, nyu feels very safe. there are security officers in every building and you must show your id to gain entrance; if you find yourself somewhere at night and you feel unsafe, you can call the nyu safe ride and someone will pick you up.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences nyu is an extremely large and diverse school, with students of all ages, races, and ethnicities. the buzz of intelligence among the students is palpable as walking around the campus interwoven into downtown new york city. the experience of going to school at nyu lies in the hands of the student, who really determines what they will get out of the school.
Tips for prospective students some tips for prospective students are: don't be afraid to brag, make yourself stand out (or else you'll be sure to get rejected), be proud of yourself, and score highly on your sats.
Academic Rigor nyu makes you work hard, but the learning experience is amazing.
Dorm Life the dorms are quite pricey, crowded, and sometimes far from campus. you're better off finding a rent-controlled apartment.
Food and Dining the quality of food for the price we pay should be a lot higher, but a meal plan is required as a freshman, so there's not much you can do, but i'd get out of it asap.
What to do for fun new york city is your playground!
Bang for the buck i wouldn't change a thing about the academics. the things learned here are invaluable.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus lilbrary is 10 stories high, classes are held in the park if its nice out.
Great for these types of students thinkers, intellectuals, dreamers, truly unique students, independent students, savvy, street-smart, hardworking
Clubs and Activities there are a ton of different clubs, one for anything you could imagine! they're fun and a great way to make friends.
Greek Life greek life is not big at nyu - it is not that type of school, and a very small percentage of people join greek life.
Campus Safety the security is very serious and good, also there is a van that will pick you up at night and take you back to campus!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences new york university is an amazing university for those who love the fast-paced city life and are use to being independent. many of the professors here are extremely helpful. as long you ask for help and show you're willing to work hard for a good grade you'll do well here.
Tips for prospective students compared to other universities the people here aren't as friendly (probably a new york thing), but you get out what you put in. so join as many clubs as you can if you want to have a good social experience here.
Academic Rigor the classes here are no joke. the work is both plentiful and difficult but it'll all pay off in the long run.
Dorm Life i didn't really enjoy most of my freshman year here because my roommates and i didn't get along (i lived in a triple in hayden hall along with two other girls). however, many of the people that were on my floor were so laid back and fun to be around. the residence hall also has a lot of events that are always going on.
Food and Dining i love that nyu has so much variety when it comes to food. my residence hall has a dining hall that serves home cooked meals, vegan food, and hayden also has the best chocolate chip cookies. there are also dining halls for stuff like burgers, sushi, pizza, asian cuisine, halal, etc.

Greek Life blah. no thanks, most attendees look upon greek life as a ridiculous substitution for an authority to direct one's life and behavior. members are asked to give up any notion of common sense and worship propriety in order to secure a financial position based on one's pledge. gang behavior, no?

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences new york university focuses on their students needs for engaging education. all of our professors are extremely intelligent in their respective fields. worth every penny.
Tips for prospective students get the administrative processes done as soon as possible. don't postpone anything.
Academic Rigor though the work is heavy, nyu provides a lot of resources.
Dorm Life in the library late? no bus or trains? call the nyu public safety and a van will pick you up and drop you off the dorm free of charge.
Food and Dining food is a bit expensive around campus but there are several places that provide discounts by showing your nyu id.
What to do for fun two athletic facilities that include rock climbing, couches and lcd tv's in front of every treadmill.
Bang for the buck worth every buck for that bang.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences nyu is a great school located in one of the greatest cities in the world.
Tips for prospective students beware writing the essay.
Academic Rigor so far, being a freshman, i've mostly taken general ed/required classes, but they have been pretty good classes.
Dorm Life each room has its own bathroom, which is awesome and the rooms are pretty big.
Food and Dining the food is good. nyu has the only chick-fil-a in the city, but i hate their meal plans. freshmen are required to have a big meal plan.
What to do for fun nyu is in nyu. what isn't there to do for fun? there's broadway shows, museums, tourist attractions, etc. anything you can think of to do, it's here in the city.
Bang for the buck nyu is very expensive, but i'm hoping it will be worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus apparently only graduate students are allowed to walk under the arch in washington square park, but everyone does it.
Great for these types of students nyu is basically known for tisch school of the arts and stern school of business, so, for anyone wanting to major in one of those schools, nyu is the place to be.
Clubs and Activities there are a lot of clubs here. everyone can find something that they like.
Greek Life it exists, but i don't know much about it.
Campus Safety even though nyu is in nyc, i feel very safe here. there are guards at each building that you have to show your id to.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it's fun, since it's in the big apple! it's hard, because it's such a good school. it's amazing, because you begin to make your life here.
Tips for prospective students if you want to come here, be prepared; lots of reading and schoolwork. but, when you live in nyc, and dorm for nyu, you really feel like you've been given the key to all the freedom in the world.
Academic Rigor come on... it's a good school for a reason. everyone has to do their homework to even hope for an a.
Dorm Life depends where you dorm... upperclassman dorms are clearly better than freshman dorms, but there are some okay freshman dorms.
Food and Dining dining is amazing, since there are so many dining halls, and if you don't like it, there's always restaurants and food stands. but again... it's new york, so be prepared to lighten your wallet soon.
What to do for fun it's the big apple. shopping and dining. enough said.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences it is a huge school where you can meet someone once but not see them again for months. there isn't much greek life nor is there much support for athletic teams. nightlife can be really fun because you're in the middle of manhattan.
Tips for prospective students consider the benefits of going to a really big school. also consider distance away from home. it also costs a lot to go to nyu, so you should strongly consider scholarship offers and cheaper tuition at other schools.
Academic Rigor nyu has world-renowned departments, so the difficulty of classes is relatively high. there will definitely be a lot of late nights, and each class will challenge you and stretch your mind.
Dorm Life there isn't a huge sense of community at nyu. so, you'll need to take advantage of befriending your roommates and floormates.
Food and Dining there a lot of selections for food: indian, chinese, italian, japanese, just to name a few. there is a chick-fil-a and quizno's on campus. almost every dorm has its own dining hall, some which are open until as late as 3am.
What to do for fun there isn't much of a greek life or a huge following for nyu sports. so you will largely need to find your own fun. there are a lot of 18+ and 21+ clubs in manhattan where you can hang out. there are lots of restaurants, movie theaters, and every other amenity you get by being in new york city.
Bang for the buck nyu costs a lot. however, housing, meals, and social life is very good, so you do get something out of what you pay. there are a lot of fun things to do in new york city, so if you enjoy the city life, it will be worth it.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus cole and dylan sprouse (the kids from the suite life of zack and cody) attend nyu, and so does dakota fanning. i've actually seen the sprouse twins a couple times.
Great for these types of students students who enjoy the city life will definitely like nyu. academically, nyu is near the top in the sciences, the creative arts, business, and mathematics. so nyu will be great for those who enjoy studying those 4 things.
Clubs and Activities there are a lot of student clubs that you can join at nyu. keep in mind though that there aren't many on-campus events such as pep rallys for athletic competitions or anything like that. you will need to find your own niche and stick with that.
Greek Life i think only about 5-10% of the student body participates in greek life. it is not really a huge deal at nyu.
Campus Safety greenwich village is a very safe part of manhattan. also, nyu has security guards in most of its buildings at all hours. i feel very safe here. but as a general precaution, you should never travel at night alone; you should always be with at least one other person no matter where you go.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences i could not have asked for a better college experience. new york city is the greatest place on earth; there's always something fun to do, great restaurants, cool bars, and a sense of purpose. i will truly be sad when i graduate.
Tips for prospective students get involved in clubs, especially greek life. you will immediately have a sense of community that many people find lacking. also, i highly recommend studying abroad. florence is an awesome city and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
Academic Rigor most classes are very challenging, but definitely do-able if you set your heart to it and study hard.
Dorm Life really depends on the dorm. really the only bad ones are rubin and lafayette. the rest are clean, homey (a bit small), and many are very close to campus.
Food and Dining i actually am in love with the food on campus and i'm sad that i don't have a meal plan this year. kimmel has the tastiest food ever, uhall has great mexican food, and downstein always has awesome things in the home zone.
What to do for fun bars and clubs. or anything else in new york; broadway shows, comedy clubs, apartment parties, restaurants, exploring the city.
Bang for the buck way too expensive. tuition and nyc. but could be worth it...
Great for these types of students everyone finds their niche here. it's big enough that there's someone and something for everyone

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences new york university is a school with limitless options and potential. the massive size of the place can at times be a great stress, but is ultimately an advantage. being in new york city allows the nyu student to enter the real world earlier than most teens while still guiding them through their four years of invaluable growth.
Tips for prospective students a prospective student should try to make as much contact with their classmates as possible. it is hard to break into new circles of people once the year is already in full-swing. one should also look into classes which might not initially jump out to them because you never know what professor and subject will inspire you.
Academic Rigor it really depends on what type of program you are taking. your instructors will give you warning if the course will have heavy workload, no one is trying to trick you into failing. overall most teachers are understanding and will try to meet with you after class hours to discuss any problems you might have with the course.
Dorm Life the process of choosing your dorm is pretty straightforward. you will know what to expect depending on how much you are able to pay. i lived at brittany hall in my freshman year and i found the experience priceless. i found some of my best friends on my floor and still keep in touch with a lot of people from that first year.
Food and Dining the dining halls are alright. there is a lot of diversity and some places have specialities, but it is also very worth it to look in to having only a partial meal plan. you can find tons of cheap places to eat at in the city, and it is always a fun experience to eat somewhere new.
What to do for fun new. york. city. there are too many options to choose from. you can simply wander the streets if you are bored, but there are also tons of cultural events always going on, no matter what time of year it is. you can find a great music show any day of the week, great art exhibitions all over and so much more. the best city in the world.
Bang for the buck it is definitely a pricey school, but you get a priceless experience. the financial aid department is pretty helpful for the most part, and you can always apply for scholarships. some students do transfer out after their first year for financial reasons, but many students stick through it simply because they could not see themselves anywhere else.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus there aren't too many unusual traditions of nyu i have seen, but in new york? whoo boy. there is the epic halloween parade, the musicians of washington square park, street artists and so much more.
Great for these types of students nyu is great for students who have the initiative to pursue their passions. you cannot have a traditional college experience in nyu. it would be ridiculous to try and ignore the thriving city you are situated in. the school is helpful in getting each student to utilize the city's vast resources, but many students take it upon themselves to find internships or any other great opportunities.
Clubs and Activities there are some clubs, but i have not looked into any myself. i tried to find a poetry club and it seemed to be totally defunct which was hard to believe. there are a lot of ethnic groups which is interesting and fun to sit in on. you will always find neat discussions and free food!
Greek Life no clue. soory.
Campus Safety nyu is located in a very safe part of the city. there are also always patrolling new york police as well as nyu safety police. they close wash sq park after midnight so there are not many locations to loiter around the campus where you could run into danger.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences New York University is an excellent college. Tisch School of the Arts offers one of the best film programs in the country.
Tips for prospective students Think about how you are going to pay for NYU. This college has one of the highest tuitions in the country and living in New York can get pricey, too.
Academic Rigor As long as you try hard and show interest in the classes you are taking, you should be fine.
Dorm Life Is a lot of fun and can get pretty wild. Choose your roommate wisely.
Food and Dining Compared to many other campuses, really good quality. Like everything in New York, it's pretty expensive, though. ($10-12 per meal)
What to do for fun Anything you want. You're in New York. Sport games, clubs, bars, theaters, concerts, operas - all at your disposal in world class quality.
Bang for the buck It takes a little while to find out where to shop for little money, but once you know where to go, you can make some good deals.
Great for these types of students Open-minded, intelligent, liberal, alternative, interest in the arts.
Clubs and Activities Anything you want.
Greek Life Not as popular as in other schools, e.g Columbia. But there are fraternities and sororities here, too.
Campus Safety Nothing to worry about if you act reasonably.

Academic Rigor It's tough. However, there are a lot of resources where one can get help with classes and students love to help each other.
Dorm Life Dorms are full of activity.
Food and Dining The dining halls have solid food, however meal plans are expensive. If you have a kitchen available it's a lot cheaper to get your own groceries.
What to do for fun All the dorms constantly have lots of free and low cost programs to attend if things to do in the city are out of your price range. There are a lot of shows of all kinds in the city, however: comedy, on and off Broadway, concerts etc.
Great for these types of students Independent, goal driven students who know what they want in life.
Clubs and Activities So much to do!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All the teachers are very knowledgeable and open to working with students outside of class. The classes are hard and demand a lot of work as well as a lot of reading. Considering this I have learned in 1 semester than I've learned in a whole year of high school.
Am enjoying being here It's a great college and being in New York City provides many unique opportunities. There are almost no frat parties or sports events so weekends usually consist of going to apartment parties, concerts and bars/clubs or doing anything else imaginable in the city. Only downside is you should expect to spend money.
Bang for the buck Everything here is top notch though for 60,000 a year they could provide a few more services. The mandatory meal plan freshman year is too costly for a very strict meal plan and the housing is a bit pricey but so is everything around it.
Tips for prospective students If you consider a good college experience to be frat parties, tail-gating sporting events and bro-culture then this is not the place for you. NYU is a college in and of the city so expect to have to make your own fun. You have the whole city to explore, use it.
Great for these types of students This is hipsters paradise, everything is about fashion, music and taste here. If you are a bro you will feel out of place due to the striking lack of bros. It's also great for people who like to be independent.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am a second degree nursing student at NYU. The university has great student resources; however, they must be utilized. The experience is what you make of it. The curriculum is undoubtedly challenging, preparing students for the professional world. Instructors are very helpful when approached for help. In addition, clinicals in New York City hospitals, offer a diverse and valuable learning experience.
Am enjoying being here As I have never lived in the city, New York City was an abrupt change. At first seemingly overwhelming, after a week I began to appreciate the diversity and opportunities provided in the area. Walking across the street to study in Washington Square Park, working among students in coffee shops, and listening to jazz bands playing down the street are only a few reasons that I value NYU as an overall learning experience. NYU not only provides a great education, but it also provides a growing experience for its students.
Bang for the buck NYU is undoubtedly expensive, however it is what you make of it. At first I was overwhelmed with the ongoing expenses of not only the University, but expenses of the city as well. My advice, seek out all the free/discounted resources available to students. Free transportation and gym access (with tvs for each machine) in addition to discounts at many vendors are only a few available resources.
Tips for prospective students My advice for future students-prepare for a challenging education, make the most of your investment with hard work. Seek out money saving strategies and plan out future investments. The best way to reduce stress is to plan ahead!
Great for these types of students NYU is great for hard working students that enjoy fast-paced environments!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot in my Media classes here, however, my Statistics class is very difficult to understand because the teacher won't really explain the material, so we as students are basically left to figure it out on our own. Other than that, every other class I'm taking is teaching me new things.
Am enjoying being here I am in love with this city!!! The big perk about going to NYU is that you are smack dab in the middle of Greenwich Village, NYC. There's so much to do here. I feel like I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do here. I couldn't have chosen a better location for a college.
Bang for the buck I feel like it's overpriced for what you get. The resources are nice, but honestly, we pay so much money for tuition, and we are restricted in what we can and cannot do. For example, I live in a dorm where I don't have a good view of the city, and all my roommates and I really want to do is see the New York City Skyline at night from the roof of our buildings. We went on an adventure to another dorm building that has 26 floors, and looked out the window of the top floor just to see the view. We didn't go outside or anything. We just wanted to look. We understand that there have been several people jump from NYU buildings in the past, but we weren't going to do that. We just wanted to see what NYC looked like at night. For that reason, I feel like they could give us a little more leeway in what we can and cannot do.
Tips for prospective students If you get to choose a freshman dorm to live in, choose 3rd North. You won't regret it, I promise!

Categories Rating Comments Bang for the buck The cost for tuition is really high because you are paying for the experience of being in NY and for the amazing connections that NYU has to offer.
Tips for prospective students The kind of experience you will have at NYU is entirely based on how much work you want to put into making your experience a great one. It seems that whatever you are looking for, you will find, and whether that is enjoyable or not depends on your perspective. The professors that I have had are always looking for the next student they can enlighten with ideas about the world, and they really just want their students to do well in their classes and prepare them for the real world. I don't think I'd be as happy as I am at any other university.
Great for these types of students If you want to meet a student from any country in the world, talk to people from different socioeconomic backgrounds, become friends with people with differing political, social, and religious views, then NYU is right for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I must start by saying that choosing to go to NYU was one of the best decisions of young life. Yes, you will learn many new things in your classes. As a student in LSP for two years before transferring to CAS, I took very interesting seminar classes, which consisted of round-table discussions enjoyable reading assignments. Yes, a great deal of work is required of you, but it will pay off in the classroom. Furthermore, as a student in New York City, you learn how to be a true Manhattanite. Within a month of starting my first semester, I became very independent, and have never looked back. I learned that it is important to have a small job during your college years so you can support yourself financially...if you can be independent in some manner, then you will be ready to enter the real world. NYU helps you learn to rely on yourself rather than on others, which is key to being successful in life.
Am enjoying being here Let's be real...if I wasn't happy here, then I would have transferred out. Just about every person I have met here is accepting of me and my unique personality. The professors, for the most part, are fun to chat with and are extremely knowledgeable about their fields of study. Also, you are living in the greatest city in the world. There is not much else to say!
Bang for the buck NYU is a very expensive school. My family has made many sacrifices to fulfill my financial requirements. I believe I speak for every student when I say that the tuition should be lowered. At the same time, the resources that are available to students are endless; there are many I was unaware of until after my sophomore year! Also, the faculty here is fantastic, and you can tell by searching famous NYU alumni. We may pay a mighty fee to attend this university, and this school does have its share of flaws, but we are given a lot in return. Furthermore, NYU's Wasserman Center for Career Development helps you prepare your resume and has an enormous search engine for finding work on campus, off campus, and for when you graduate. It has been a life saver...and there is no fee for that!
Tips for prospective students Do not come here if you desire to attend a sports-oriented school. In New York City, you do not need that. There are of course sports teams here, and we have lovely athletic facilities, but that is not at the top of our fun things to do lists. Basically, if you know nothing about sports, you'll be fine! However, if you are a sports fan, you can simply attend big-league games or watch them on TV with friends in your residence hall. Everybody wins!
If you want to make friends, you cannot do that by being a mute. If you are outgoing and are not afraid to walk up to people and be yourself, I assure you that you will have no problem making friendships that will last a lifetime. I followed that tip, and I am still close with many of my friends from freshman year.Great for these types of students unique, fun-loving, determined, caring, non-traditional, hard-working, independent

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I got really lucky with my professors and classes last year. Hopefully I'm just as lucky in the fall. The professors are passionate about what they are teaching and they really reach out to the students.
Am enjoying being here NYU is in a great location, New York City! Some people complain that there is no campus but you actually get an unlimited campus! NYU students are everywhere. Washington Square Park is the chill area. It's great.
Bang for the buck It is pricey but there are many benefits to attending NYU
Tips for prospective students Don't mess around too much. You have to know your limits. College is based on how much effort you put in. Teachers won't constantly be on top of your work like high school teachers. College is the time to prove to yourself that you can make it.
Great for these types of students Great for students who love convenience and the city life.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If NYU does one thing right, it's hiring skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic professors who more often than not are working professionals in the field that you are studying. Even without thoroughly scouring RateMyTeacher, you're bound to end up with a great one. There are a lot of great resources that students can access if they are struggling and most professors really try to make themselves available to students.
Am enjoying being here NYU is definitely not your typical college experience. It won't be anything like those stereotypical depictions of college in movies and most likely won't be exactly what you expected. That being said, you adjust. As an NYU student you have an experience that is 100% out of the ordinary (even from schools like Columbia that have a campus) and that is something to cherish but also is something that is not for everyone. The lack of campus does make it difficult to meet people, especially after freshman year (so make sure to meet a lot of people at the onslaught). Overall, the experience has been fun. You are not coddled by a campus or a college bubble but I think that is a small price to pay for the seemingly endless opportunities that New York City can provide.
Bang for the buck Being completely honest - no way. When you pay for NYU you are paying for their name. That's it. I can honestly say that I have no idea where exactly that money is going except to building campuses in Beijing and Abu Dabi (which we don't need) and taking over the city. It is a great school with great professors in a great place but if you are at all uncertain about your college choice I would think heavily on it. I look at as paying for the opportunities that the city provides me - not just the school. That said, the NYU brand name often ends up meaning something post graduation.
Tips for prospective students You're in a wonderful new place - don't get trapped in the NYU bubble! Explore! Use your student status as an advantage to get student tickets to Broadway shows, movies, and always be on the look out for free NYC events. Don't limit yourself and use NYU resources to their FULL advantage - you're paying for them after all. Introduce yourself to professors in big classes and always email with questions - more often than not they'll want to help. Don't over-do it. NYC can be a stressful place and many students can feel it take its toll. Take some time for yourself.
Great for these types of students Outgoing, driven, self motivated, social (you have to really make an effort to meet people because there is no campus)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you know what you want to go into, and you're in the right program best fit for you, then you will learn A LOT (and enjoy learning it too). It was only when I was unsure what I wanted to do and taking my core classes that I felt the classes were mediocre.
Am enjoying being here NYU is not only about interacting with the school, but the entire city! There's so much to do (and to eat) that you almost never get bored, unless you want to stay in to save some cash.
Bang for the buck Like I said earlier, if you know what you want to do it'll be worth it. The tuition is very high and going up each year. So it's best to research what NYU has to offer, and if that's what you want then it's worth your money.
Tips for prospective students Make sure you visit NYU before! It's not like any other school, especially because it has no campus. Also, it helps if you're pretty independent because you do a lot of things on your own and you can only depend on yourself to do it! Also, consider study abroad because NYU has a GREAT study abroad program and it helps to make new friends too.
Great for these types of students Independent, Different, Open to new things, Can take themselves out of their comfort zone, Wants more than just campus life, Ready to cease different opportunities (academically and for future jobs)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I learn a lot , essentially if your in cstep you meet lots of people that are like minded and have a strong work ethic. Don't worry about the rumors of being lonely in the school , people are bound to just walk up to you and ask a question or find something to talk about. I even do Chemistry during lunch time on napkins and its not weird at all!
Am enjoying being here Who doesn't love Manhattan? The possibilities to meet new people are endless , furthermore the resources are limitless from on campus to associating law firms, hospitals, and business centers. I skateboard everyone and even if i get lost having the NYU flag near every building and or having a shirt with NYU on it and asking for directions will get you where you need to go.
Bang for the buck Expensive as it may seem, there are lots of free events and the 10% discount on over 180 stores really helps. Furthermore you don't have teachers that are obviously only bachelor students , most if not all have a phD , m.D. ,M.B.A , or even a random professional degree
Tips for prospective students Prepare to write lots of papers, come into the school well read. Furthermore if your set on one major be prepared to reconsider since there are over 100 majors to choose from and the create your own option.
Great for these types of students Science based students, nursing, and business are great candidates for NYU art gets its shine here as Lady Gaga and Mos Def graduated from here along with actor James Franco.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot As with most colleges, it will vary with the teacher, but make sure you do your research and make friends in all grade levels so you have opinions of other students you trust. When it comes down to it, you are responsible for learning from the professor/TA, not the other way around.
Am enjoying being here There is nothing like living in New York City and going to college at the same time, especially NYU. Nestled across West, Greenwich, and East Villages, you'll have plenty of things to do and people to meet. You won't have any trouble finding things to do when you're not in class or on weekends. As for NYU activities, there are a multitude of extracurricular activities, but you just have to drag yourself out of your dorm room or that nightclub to do it. The opportunities are there.
Bang for the buck Unfortunately, NYU is a private school, and that means at least 50k a year. I'm dependent on financial aid to attend, but the professional and education opportunities I'm offered are worth it. This is especially applicable if you're interested in Stern or Tisch. Professional networking and internships are worth shelling out whatever you pay/will pay for NYU. After all, you are going to college to get a job.
Tips for prospective students Coming from California, and UCs and CSUs, where admissions is a little more formulaic, NYU is a private school and will therefore have a lot more holistic admissions process. My best advice is be well-rounded, balance our your weak areas (SATs, GPA, etc) with stronger facts (conversely SATs, GPA, extracurriculars). I would say it's better to devote yourself to one or two activities and become superlative in those things than to spread yourself thin just to look like you're versatile. Focus and dedication are things colleges and NYU will look for. Sports will get you into NYU, but they offer no scholarships since the only division I sport is fencing-- so just a word to the wise. My greatest advice applying to any private school is that they are looking for people, not robots.
Great for these types of students Independent, self-starting students who are social and can handle a little alienation once and a while. Students looking for a different college campus feel because there essentially is no campus. Students who want a lively, non collegiate, social life and great professional opportunities half a block away from their dorm.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot NYU is an amazing school. The amount of diversity in the school, and in the city one can learn so much from. Granted, it does take a certain open-mindedness to take on such a school and city, but placing oneself out of their comfort zone is completely worth what you will learn from this diversity.
Will enjoy being here The campus is gorgeous, and literally spread out in the Village. It's not just one building, nor is it just a few blocks. Along with being such a spread out campus, the city that it is located in provides adventure for every single day. In New York City, there is something completely different to do every single day. You will never get bored in that city, whether it's partying all night long, attending a poetry reading at a cafe, or just walking around the city for hours.
Bang for the buck NYU is ranked #2 on the most expensive schools, however, the amount of money that has to paid is worth living in such a city. Just the experience from living in New York has no price on it.
Great for these types of students NYU is great for an open minded and independent student. One must take the city head on, with all force possible. It's not dangerous as it was before, however it does take a certain amount of skill to get around, and cross the streets. NYU would also be great for someone looking to be more open minded because the city takes a certain degree of open mindedness to live in.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I am so excited to learn as much as I can. Since I am going into education I know will be a forever learner and I know NYU will kick off my journey through post-secondary education perfectly!
Will enjoy being here I can't wait to be living in the big apple! I know I 'm going to meet so many different people and experience so many things that I wouldn't be able to anywhere else. NYU ha so many activities available to everyone, especially Freshman. They even have special interests floors at the frosh dorms and explorations where people with like interests come together and practice activities together.
Great for these types of students Anyone who love individuality!!!

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot The teachers I have met so far seem to be really passionate and excited about what they do. The university has exponential numbers of internship connections waiting to be tapped into, so learning in the outside world as opposed to the classroom almost feels like a prerequisite for graduating.
Will enjoy being here The city is great. The people are ridiculous and diverse and fascinating. The campus, though nontraditional, is centralized and has an excellent feel to it.
Bang for the buck NYU is expensive. Really expensive. But considering the connections you'll make, and the people you'll meet along the way, if you're doing what you love and learning, then the money doesn't matter.
Tips for prospective students You have to go out and seek a community, it will not be bestowed upon you the way it is at other traditional university campuses. Also, bureaucracy. You will wait on the phone for hours before getting the information you need, unless you know which person to call. Do not be afraid to call, call often, and try to get different people on the phone. They will give you different answers and the more you will learn.
Great for these types of students Independent and confident and resistant to cold. Not for students who dream of living in NYC thanks to Gossip Girl.
