Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the northern marianas college (nmc) is a no-frills junior college (associate degrees) that offers a bachelor of science in education. students interested in attending nmc have fun in a tropical island, but are relatively focused on completing post-secondary studies for an entry-level job. nmc has lots of opportunities (and with that challenges) to expand.
Tips for prospective students students interested in attending nmc need only to visit www.nmcnet.edu for information. if you need only an associate degree (or a bachelor of science in education) and want to enjoy tropical weather, nmc may be right for you. be prepared to be independent however, as there are no dorms (there are apartments nearby), and you will likely require a car to tour the island.
Academic Rigor nmc's academic rigor matches its offerings, and the academic atmosphere in general is (for lack of better emphasis) very, very manageable.
Food and Dining there are two very close (one within the college and another one a little off college grounds) fast food cafeterias that offer a variety of local food. across the street is a popular coffee shop. many other restaurants are available on island, but you will need a car (unless you want to walk an average of 4 miles)
What to do for fun the term fun is dependent on the student. generally, students at nmc go to the student center within campus to watch movies, play darts and billiards, participate in intramural volleyball and basketball, and participate in student clubs. off campus, night clubs are usually popular venues.
Bang for the buck nmc is a junior college and as such, it is really cheap. it benefits in-state (or in this case, in-island) students the most because they will most likely not worry about transportation or lodging. nmc is the cheapest option for in-state students on island. the institution may not be of value to out-of-state students however, unless you really want good weather.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the most popular one is charter day, a big event of local performances, eating competitions, and cheap food. a lot of people attend this event and so it is a great opportunity for groups of friends to network. for future reference, the proa is nmc's mascot. proa is a type of boat.
Great for these types of students if in-state, students who are mature, want to be more marketable in the workforce (nmc is great for continuing education, adult education, etc.), and those who want to save a lot of money. if out-of-state, students really desire tropical island weather and who want to truly challenge themselves in terms of independence and personal growth.
Clubs and Activities being a leader for the associated students of nmc (student governance) looks good on your resume, but it is a very challenging post and you need maturity and leadership in navigating sensitive and sometimes ambiguous college policies. proa music society is a music club and is one of the more popular ones. proa rhetoric circle is a new debate club, while phi theta kappa is an international honor society. other clubs are available; there are many opportunities to start your own.
Greek Life none, unless you count phi theta kappa, which is more focused on community service.
Campus Safety although relatively safe, when in the island, please practice common sense - don't dwell late at night, stay with friends/groups of people, never carry any valuables conspicuously, etc.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The Nursing Program that I am currently in is very rigorous but worth it in the end. Our instructors not only uses our textbook but encourages us to learn in various ways. They encourage and give us the tools that we need to advance in our future careers.
Am enjoying being here Since NMC is a community college, all classes have small class sizes and the general student population is diverse and hospitable.
Bang for the buck NMC is a community college that offers a very low tuition fee per credit. Also, the quality of teaching that comes with the price is unbelievable.
Tips for prospective students The weather here is mostly sunny. NMC is located in an island north from Guam. The beaches here are near and not very crowded.
Great for these types of students Students who like to live an island life.
