Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot This school offers a lot more than just your pre-requisite classes. You'd be surprised if I told you this school has a lot to offer. Classes for the student that wants to own a major business to classes for the student who wants to become a med student. Here they offer you classes about how to handle college and also how to pick a major that is right for you, these classes are for those students who have had a hard time figuring out what they want to do when the get older.
Am enjoying being here There are many campuses that are apart of NVCC. You can pick which ever one that is located near you and all of them are beautiful. There are a lot of new faces to meet and also a really relaxing area with a cafeteria, a park, and it really looks like a college. It isn't high school all over again. It's a great experience being here. The professors are great and really helpful as well as the counselors! Some of the professors from GMU come to NVCC to teach as well, so think about it, you're basically getting the same education!
Bang for the buck The best part about NVCC is the price. You really don't pay a lot for what you get. You save money while you take the classes that you need to transfer over to whatever college you plan to go to and continue there where you had left off!
Tips for prospective students Tips for new students:
Be ready to have the time of your life!
Carry a map of the campus with you because the campus is pretty big, you might get lost.
It's okay to ask for help!Great for these types of students NVCC is great for the student who would like to save money and earn the same education at a 4-year college. NVCC is great for anybody.

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students The professors are great and really helpful. I would especially recommend the Spanish department. However, I didn't really like the ELI (extended learning institute). It's kind of nicer to just be in an actual classroom. Except for ELI, I highly recommend NOVA!
Great for these types of students Don't think it's any easier than a real college, but the good thing about that is that obviously you'll learn a ton! Do come prepared to work.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Some people see community college as just a stepping stone for people that couldn't get into a four-year university in high school. That is not the case at all! There are a great deal of interesting and diverse degree programs available to students. Whether you're just attending to get an Associates degree, or are planning to transfer to a four-year college (that's what I'll be doing this fall!!), NOVA is an amazing place to study.
Am enjoying being here I really got to know all of my professors and they're all awesome. I really liked all of my classes and never felt like I was just dragging along or anything. I mainly went to the Annandale campus, and I have to say, it's the best of NOVA's campuses. Having a positive attitude goes along way to enjoying your time anywhere, and that goes for NOVA as well.
Bang for the buck Pretty much every other review hit this on the head. NOVA is very inexpensive compared to other schools in the area (George Mason...). There is not a drop off in the quality of teaching at all. All of the professors I've encountered in my two years studying at NOVA have all been leaders within their industry or current/former professors at other four-year colleges in the area (American, Catholic, George Mason).
Tips for prospective students STAY ON TOP OF YOUR GRADES!!! I cannot stress that enough. Please do not think that you can coast through NOVA because it's just a community college. I took 60 credits at NOVA and only got two B's, the rest were straight A's. Also, check up on scholarships that NOVA sponsors or has a partnership with and APPLY APPLY APPLY!! My good grades allowed me to win two scholarships from partners of the college for a total of $61,000 to apply toward tuition at the four-year university that I will be transferring to. There are so many amazing opportunities available for students to take advantage of, but few do. Don't let that happen to you, go out and apply for any aid you can!
Great for these types of students Commuters, people with jobs, people with busy schedules, anyone looking to transfer to a four-year university, budget conscious individuals

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers at Northern Virginia Community College (or, as its students and staff call it, NOVA) truly are amazing educators. Many people are sorely mistaken when they think that as a community college, NOVA provides poor quality in its education. In fact, many of the teachers work a job aside from teaching which gives them field experience of what is in their lectures. Not only that, some are even teachers in more well-known schools as well, such as George Mason University or even William and Mary.
Classes tend to be smaller, so students and teachers have the opportunity to be able to further discuss the material if needed.Am enjoying being here I definitely enjoy being at NOVA. It's close to home, yet students come from all different counties so there are still plenty of people to meet. The academic advising staff is excellent, to the point where I am always pointed towards the right direction and I know that I'm making progress in obtaining my degree. The teacher-to-student ratio is convenient, and the tuition is reasonable.
Bang for the buck Did I mention the great tuition? It has to be one of the biggest advantages of being at Northern Virginia Community College! Students take the same classes at NOVA as they would at other, more pricey colleges; these classes also transfer easily from NOVA to almost any college in Virginia. This is especially useful when the student is looking to transfer while following the guaranteed admissions agreement between NOVA and many other colleges.
Tips for prospective students Students looking at NOVA should know that checking their NOVA email regularly is extremely beneficial (a lot of people tend to forget about their email accounts). The staff often send notifications about upcoming events that are easily missed: plays, contests, talent shows, assemblies, college fairs, scholarships and fundraisers.
Great for these types of students Northern Virginia Community College is great for students that want or need to live close to home, or want a class size convenient for participation. It is more convenient for those that can drive, however, there is a bus that takes students to the campuses as well. Most of all, NOVA shines brilliantly for students who are looking to transfer, especially if they are freshmen students who are only beginning to adjust to college life.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences a fantastic opportunity to enhance anyone's situation. northern virginia community college (nova) is the second largest junior institution. i would rate this school (from 1-10) 10 being the highest level of recognition.
Tips for prospective students take advantage of every possible resource. the possibilities are endless. maintain focus, and above up never give up. it is better to try than to give up and quit.
Academic Rigor at nova, there are professors teaching that come a wide range of background. this includes adjunct professors who also teach at four-year universities, researchers, consultants, and even retirees.
Dorm Life no dorms
Food and Dining starbucks at some of our campuses, au bon pain soup!
What to do for fun nova has sports that play against other junior colleges, and against some four-year colleges too.
Bang for the buck since this is a junior college, the tuition is low. plus, nova is located in northern virginia so the students are constantly exposed to the cultural sophistication of the area while being taught by worldly professors.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus i'm not sure that are any unusual traditions at my school.
Great for these types of students nova is perfect for all students. a really beautiful feature about this school is that a student can expect diversity when entering a classroom or on campus. there are students who are high school seniors, returning adults, parents, international students, and anyone else really.
Clubs and Activities nova offers a large variety of clubs and groups to join.
Greek Life we have phi theta kappa honor society - which is recognized internationally among all junior colleges and four-year schools.
Campus Safety the police are so tough, they've ticketed deans in the parking lot!

Academic Rigor Some classes are fun and some classes are just extremely painful to take.
Dorm Life Since it's a community college, living in campus is not offered.
Food and Dining Food is expensive.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The teachers here are great and dedicated to helping their students learn. They are fun and flexible. The work can get hard, but each teacher always has office hours scheduled in order to help students in need. There is also a tutoring center if you need more assistance.
Am enjoying being here I greatly enjoy being a student at Northern Virginia Community College. It has opened many doors for me, including becoming a member of Phi Theta Kappa and becoming a Peer Mentor.
Bang for the buck You will save a lot of money by choosing to take your first two years of college at Northern Virginia Community College. You will also gain a Associate's degree before pursuing your Bachelors Degree, which is also a great help in your academic career.
Tips for prospective students Talk to a peer mentor about teachers, classrooms, scheduling, and making your way around campus. It's a peer mentor's job to be there for you through all your college needs. I and the other peer mentors will be more than happy to help you.
Great for these types of students Northern Virginia Community College is a great college for students just graduating high school.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot This college has great Professors... and pretty poor ones. I found out quickly that at NOVA it is absolutly necessary to first check out ratemyprofessors.com, elsewise you can be stuck with a worst than useless professor and no other options to switch into.
Did enjoy being here I started out attending classes in-person, but I ended up having to become an online student fairly quickly. If you are a smoker this is an awesome campus, if not I would say really be considerate of how well you do with smoke. So, I enjoyed the people there- there is an awesome combination of students attending there. But, I really could not enjoy my physical time spent at school because I have bad allergies. So, I did not really enjoy being there.
Bang for the buck NOVA pretty has the best bang for your buck you can get. You can get highly knowledgable, interesting professors and a very wide possibility of majors. Not to mention the flexibility of the College, you can pretty much take classes whenever you want to. You get accepted at NOVA and you have a choice of ~10 campus' to attend. No, housing is not offered at this time, the the college itself is pretty inexpensive at about $130 per credit hour. So, I would say it is a pretty good bang for your buck.
Tips for prospective students Sure NOVA is a school that basically everyone will get accepted into, but you should in no way treat it as if it is an easy school- it is not. But, more to the point, if you slack through your time at NOVA and move on to get your B.A. you will not be prepared for the work you will have to do to pass.
Great for these types of students -Great for smokers
-Great for self-motivated students
-Great for those on a budgetLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Tips for prospective students You get out of it what you put into it, and there are plenty of students here who just don't care about their success.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), is the perfect place to give students a fresh start close to home. It gives them the opportunity to experience college without moving out, and it gives you a chance to slowly transition into the responsibilities of an adult. It helps you find yourself while still being close to home.
Tips for prospective students Don't be ashamed for going to community college. NOVA gives you everything you need to help you slowly transition into those bigger universities without wasting your time. It's definitely worth it.
Academic Rigor College is still college, whether its at a University or a Community College. There are difficult classes, but it all depends on how you apply yourself in the end. If you keep yourself organized then you'll be fine. Don't procrastinate. I learned the hard way!
Dorm Life There isn't much of a dorm life. You can either live at home, or get an apartment with friends.
Food and Dining Food is food. You should always eat, but remember, it's still school. You're not dining at a five star restaurant. But I must admit, the food is still pretty yummy!
What to do for fun NOVA has plenty of clubs and organizations that you can join. The more involved you get, the more fun you have.
Bang for the buck Compared to the Universities, NOVA is definitely really good when it comes to saving money. You don't pay as much, but you definitely get your dollars worth!!!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus NOVA has a knack of catching it's students off guard with pleasant surprises; NOVA Day!
Great for these types of students NOVA is an awesome place for any person who is ready for college, but isn't quite at the level of a dorm life, or being away from home. It's a small minor 15 minute long drive, but you can see and be with all of your friends on campus for hours!
Clubs and Activities NOVA has all sorts of people. You can never cease to be amazed at the variety of people. And because of the large variety, there are many clubs that you can participate in!
Greek Life Unfortunately we don't have any sororities or fraternaties. However we do have Honor Societies!
Campus Safety Like all colleges, NOVA isn't 100% safe. But we have a great police squad on campus that help regulate a lot. And if there has been any crime it's been very minimal.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Interesting but challenging for someone from out of town. Attending school at NOVA interesting resourceful as we have students from all ethic and socioeconomic backgrounds striding to achieve the same academic goals.
Tips for prospective students Three tips that I strongly suggest for new students would be to:
1) Never forget why you are there> A lot of students get caught up in the hype of college life and become desperate to make friends or fit in.
2) Studies first, peers later! >I'd say be objective, don't give into peer pressure and put your studies first!
3) Take it easy> Remember to pace yourself.. manage your study time and social time and stick to it.. You will be fine!Academic Rigor This community college is stern like no other, as your have to keep your academic game up, In other words one must maintain at least a 2.0 to be considered academically in good standing and for good reason, NOVA is the only community college in the northern VA area that offers a guarantee admission agreement with any four year college or university in the State of Virginia!
Dorm Life ( I only checked one star because I had to) But this school offers no dorms although the idea has been discussed and is currently in consideration.
Food and Dining (Annadale Campus)The school has a on site Starbucks coffee shop and they stand ready to serve you. The service is fast, but it's Starbucks.... Pricey!
What to do for fun There are various exciting student clubs/organizations at the Annadale campus of NOVA.They offer many interest such as Virginia recreation and park association, college democrats to even the most social Club Filipino!
Bang for the buck This school is not too expensive and because of the guarantee admissions agreement, you can be certain that your credits will transfer. Also if you are a resident of VA, they provide discounted tuition. Military, Business contract students and residents of DC get special tuition rates.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus One trend that the school holds is the annual NOVA Idol competition; In where a registered student can audition in front of a few local celebrities and (their peers) to compete for a chance to be in the televised running of NOVA IDOL. The NOVA IDOL winner then receives 4,000 dollars in cash and the title of NOVA IDOL
Great for these types of students This school is so diverse and welcoming, and is considered by me to be optimal for the high school graduate seeking new experiences among experience and culture.
Clubs and Activities There are so many ways for students to excel in social, culture and government organizations at the college. The school encourages students to engage interest in clubs and they will assist you with starting your own club, (if by chance the existing ones aren't your style!)
Greek Life Little to no Greek life here.. Remember.. we don't have dorms! Just usual, two year usual honor fraternity such Phi theta Kappa..
Campus Safety I give the campus police four starts (and a half, if I could) These cops are always on their job, I always see campus on patrol, searching for those bad-boys and it always make me feel safe! Be the matter lost and found or student bully's, these cops have your back!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Nova is a great school to return to after a long period of time being out of school or if your continuing your education. The teachers take the time to make sure you understand your subjects. The campuses offer great relocation and you can transfer between campuses.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of your community college, NOVA is more affordable then traditional 4 Year colleges and you can get the same great education!!
Academic Rigor The academics are great in my opinion, your professors will give you one on one time if needed. They will also work with you if you miss a test. The courses are challenging which is important because you personally are challenged also.
Dorm Life I don't live on campus so I don't know
Food and Dining The cafeterias are very accessible and affordable. They have a variety of meals, although they are pretty basic.
Bang for the buck Yes NOVA gives you your moneys worth!! The college is very very affordable and the classes are educational. So dollar for dollar it is worth every penny.
Great for these types of students NOVA is great for adults that are returning to college to begin or continue there education and have been out of the loop for a long time. NOVA is also great for recently graduated High School Students that are clueless to college life and the work study required.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The dental hygiene school is accredited and has very high standard for the students. I feel that we are probably worked a good bit harder than some of the other local dental hygiene schools, we must find our own patients, for example; and I feel that this gives us a competitive edge in our profession. I took many more upper level prerequisite courses than most of my classmates and I do feel the school needs to require more advanced prerequisite courses, as I feel this will better prepare the students for the arduous road in dental hygiene school.
Tips for prospective students Take more than just the minimum prerequisites so that you will not only be more competetive in your application but more prepared to take on the rigors of a very tough program
Academic Rigor I used to think college was hard - and I took microbiology, calculus, statistics. I have a new perspective because Dental Hygiene school makes that now seem like a cake-walk. Dental Hygiene School is more like boot-camp.
Dorm Life We are a community college, so there are no dorms, but having a quiet home to study and work is vital
Food and Dining The Medical Education campus does not have a cafeteria, just a book store/cafe. I don't know why they would spend all this money on a beautiful new campus and no food service. But the offerings are meager, so pack a lunch.
What to do for fun Study, Study, STUDY! But, honestly, you really must take time for yourself. Be sure to exercise for improved memory and take time for family and loved ones.
Bang for the buck I get the same Dental Hygiene education and the same degree of Registered Dental Hygienist as schools that cost 3x as much or more. My 20k education would have cost me $60k elsewhere. BIG BANG FOR THE BUCK!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a great 1 mile road that many students take time to go for walks. It's actually very nice because it has a pond and is surrounded by fields and trees.
Great for these types of students Diligent, hardworking, self-starter type students.
Clubs and Activities There are many clubs in which to get involved. The school's activites director is very active and always has events going on. There are salsa lesson/dancing, free massages from the PT club, movies and much more.
Greek Life Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is a wonderful way to gain leadership and involvement in the community.
Campus Safety The campus police are a constant presence and you'll feel very safe.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Northern Virginia CC, also known as NOVA for short, is an affordable institution for higher learning. The professors are an inspiration to be around, and are great at tending to your needs if or when you need help with the curriculum. I do not feel threatened by my peers around me because we are such a diverse group, which cannot be said about certain community colleges in other places.
Tips for prospective students Register as soon as possible to avoid having the good instructors taken!
Academic Rigor With the right instructors, you can go very far in your journey to a better education with ease.
Dorm Life Since it is a community college, there do not have any dorms on college campus.
Food and Dining Very limited to a Starbucks cafe and some snacks. I wish they had a better, and more healthier selection to choose from.
What to do for fun NOVA offers a variety of clubs and organizations. Personally, I am not apart of any of them, but I would be if I didn't have to transfer soon.
Bang for the buck One of most affordable colleges to attend in the area.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A progressive, flexible school perfect for anyone who needs a jump-start to their higher education. The availability of classes to suit every schedule and skill level leaves endless possibilities of enrichment for a wide contingent of students who may otherwise have few opportunities in this area. I have been both challenged and met at my level with stellar performance from all of my professors.
Tips for prospective students Don't be afraid to switch up campuses to widen your options in courses! Also, always at least talk to your professors. The better they know you, the better they can work with you, and you can get some truly amazing opportunities out of it.
Academic Rigor I was always challenged academically, and always intellectually engaged.
Food and Dining Average college cafeteria/bookstore helpings. It differs by campus as well--Annandale has a few neat options, but the Woodbridge campus is more reminiscent of high school pickings.
What to do for fun Look for student organizations to join, and if you don't see one you like, make one! A lot of power is in your hands at NVCC if you know how to ask for it.
Bang for the buck Tremendous value in class rigor/preparation for the cost.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Nothing about NVCC's campuses is particularly unique, although I always did like the pond at the Woodbridge campus. It can be quite tranquil to study there.
Great for these types of students Anyone disadvantaged by public school or who needs to start over again with higher education could benefit tremendously from this school.
Clubs and Activities Not a whole lot of unusual or interesting clubs, but engaging ones nonetheless; a lot of focus on community projects, which does look good on your resume/CV if you can get the chance.
Greek Life No fraternities or sororities, but the honors society, Phi Theta Kappa, is a huge boost to your resume/CV, your transfer applications, and your community service records.
Campus Safety I have always felt safe at NVCC. Whenever there has been an incident, campus and local police have been instantly and effectively deployed.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is a great school if you wish to save money. Unlike many preconceived ideas, the professors are not only knowledgeable of the material but can teach it very well! The faculty is also very welcoming and helpful in whatever the need is.
Tips for prospective students Get involved in a club, whether through NOVA or outside, so that you can get to know other students. Because it is a community college, many students don't hang out on campus therefore it is difficult to get to know others.
Academic Rigor The material isn't different from any other school, what I believe makes it easier at NOVA than other 4 year schools is the helpfulness of the professors. Instead of having recitations, you can meet with the professor personally and ask questions on whatever confused you with the material.
Dorm Life There is no dorm life, because there are no dorms, which is one downside to NOVA, but the benefit is that you save a lot more money if you stay with your parents, friends, or even rent an apartment yourself.
Food and Dining The food isn't outstanding. I never eat a meal at the campus, but might use the vending machine here and there. Overall they just have sandwiches with lunch meats.
What to do for fun There is a lounge, where a few students will hang out at. Whether it be playing on the computer or playing a game of pool with your fellow classmates, there are a few things that will allow you to have fun and get away from school for a little.
Bang for the buck No where will be able to mach the education with the price you pay. It is worth going to!
Great for these types of students If you're looking to save money, which I recommend most students in this nation to do, then NOVA is the place to go.
Campus Safety I've been attending for the past 2 years, and I have not heard of any problems on campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences The classes are good, if you put in the work you will get the grades. Picking professors is tricky as with every school but they are generally knowledgeable, if you ask around most student will let you know what is what. Most of the locations are public transportation accessible which is definitely a plus (if you don't have a car). There us also parking, with a sticker from the University.
Tips for prospective students Go to the orientations. You will make friends and won't feel so out of place when you start classes.
Academic Rigor I am giving it a three because some of the classes have been extremely difficult while others have been a walk in the park but I also spoke to numerous students and they say that it all varies according to major.
Dorm Life There are no dorms as far as I know.
Food and Dining It's alright. They have healthy options, which is always a change from the standard pizza and fries.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences people going to northern virginia are mostly students who just didn't apply themselves in high school and are getting their second wind. there's not much homework, they grade you mostly on tests. i enjoy schooling here much more than high school.
Tips for prospective students study, take the tests and come to class! i cannot stress enough, the information you learn in class is vital to your success. at home studying is a must as well if you want to succeed on the tests. all in all, the first two years should go pretty smoothly in preparation for transfer to your four year college.
Academic Rigor as i said before, there's hardly homework but there still is some. most of your grade is going to be based on tests and quizzes and classroom attendance in some cases. some classes you take will go faster than others, keep an eye out for the number of times you meet a week, that will gauge the speed of the class. all in all, the class sizes are very small and you have more than ample opportunity during class to ask questions and get to know your teachers.
Dorm Life there are no dorms, you're either going to have to swallow your pride and live with mom for 2 more years or get an apartment!
Food and Dining i rarely eat on campus, but the food isn't that bad, but if you're going to school so close to home why not eat there?
What to do for fun well what i personally like to do for fun is head over to the game room and play pool or league of legends on the computers. the guys there are more than friendly and you're bound to make a few friends and learn a few pool tricks. depending on your campus, there might be other things to do but they're more or less the same. there are some after school groups that meet up and do things like theater and community service, sports etc.
Bang for the buck great, extremely cheap. you get an associates degree at a fraction of the cost of going to a 4 year and if you graduate nova with a 3.0 or higher, you can automatically transfer to most in-state colleges no questions asked.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus nothing too exciting going on here, after all it is a commuter college. most people just drive in, go to class and drive out.
Great for these types of students introverted people can really get along well here, as they aren't forced into a huge community of the stereotypical crazy college kids. most everyone keeps to themselves more or less, but it's not hard to make friends at all. everyone is mostly friendly albeit quiet. independent workers and students who are less than inclined to do homework will get along very well here.
Clubs and Activities there are many student bodies that do sports, theater, band you name it. if you're into doing those kinds of activities, just follow the posters!
Greek Life greeks life? more like geek life! not going to find any betas or gammas here, this is a commuter college after all!
Campus Safety the campus is fairly safe, i've never experienced any incident. you an sign up for emergency updates on your phone which will give you a head's up if something is going on, i've gotten maybe 1 or 2 texts about a petty theft, but that's about the extent of it. the campus police seem to be omnipresent, keeping everyone in line.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the annandale campus provides exemplary support for the students. this college is the perfect choice to make if anyone is indecisive about what they want to do in college. the academics expand anywhere from your easy a class to the difficult brain throbbing curriculum.
Tips for prospective students i advise that if you don't know what specific major you want to do, general ed classes are the best way to go because throughout the credit you may find a particular major you would like to focus on.
Academic Rigor some professors are great and others are not the greatest but i recommend ratemyprofessor.com.
Dorm Life its a commuting school, so there are no dorms on campus.
Food and Dining food is okay, though at times there it can seem like cafeteria food.
What to do for fun the clubs are a great way to meet people because if you do not, the campus may be a 13th year of high school.
Clubs and Activities they are a great way to meet people and participating in the club/intramural sports are a great way to stay active and possibly get picked up by college scouts.
Campus Safety the police are always moving throughout campus for our superb safety.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the counselors at this school are not very helpful and some are not familiar with the school academics and policies. i have been there for almost a year and can't wait to graduate and get out of there!one of my teachers read straight from the power points and did not take time to explain the material.
Tips for prospective students ask your friends for help and advice who have been there or are currently enrolled . go online to the school website and navigate it because it has a lot of information regarding specific degrees.
Academic Rigor overall the school is ok. the teachers are pretty laid back. i found the online courses to be more challenging then the in-person classes. that was probably due to the fact that i didn't have teachers telling me when assignments were due.
Dorm Life being that this is a community college, i stayed at home.
Food and Dining i never had any of the school's food.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences nvcc provides many opportunity for the students, including but not limited to transfer to other 4-years colleges in va, to achieve certain degrees in various field, and to meet different people for social interaction. it has cheaper price compare to other colleges, reducing the burden on you and your supporters.

Academic Rigor each professor has different rules; however, the basic line is to be on time, respect the professor and the students.

Food and Dining each campus has cafeteria where you can buy breakfast and lunch. they have pancakes, bagels with cream cheese, hamburgers, sushi rolls, pasta, salad, etc.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot NVCC is a great college! They have so many resources and the instructors are willing and eager to help their students succeed.
Am enjoying being here I really do enjoy being at school. I have never had an issue with any of the teachers or staff.
Bang for the buck College is getting expensive every where but NVCC is definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students Focus! Focus! Focus! Take advantage of all of NVCC resources that they offer for free. For example the writing lab, they will help you write you papers.
Great for these types of students NVCC is great for anyone, from the student that is trying to save money and then transfer to the working mom/dad.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I'm definitely learning a lot, but not necessarily in the way i want to learn. Students don't seem to be social at the manassas campus from what I've witnessed, and not just social in the halls, but social in the classrooms. The Annandale campus has more variety of students and professors. The environment of Annandale is much more university like than at Manassas. The manassas campus tends to feel like a training school for real college
Am enjoying being here I definitely like being in the Annandale campus more so than the Manassas campus. In the manassas campus one can expect to get their work done and leave without saying much. The manassas campus is small so classes fill up very quickly. In Annandale there are more classes available because it is so big. You'll definitely be saving LOADS of money by attending a community college the first two years to get an associates degree. I would however recommend visiting the community college first. My main problem with the Manassas campus was that the classes I needed for my degree weren't always available in that campus, so I had to commute to the Annandale campus which provides more variety with their classes.
Bang for the buck All in all I'm glad i chose to attend a community college when thinking financially. You save so much money by attending a community college and the majority of my professors also teach at universities so you're basically getting the same education but for way less. If you're planning on signing up for financial aid do it quickly and as soon as possible. NVVC is known for having a VERY slow financial aid process. An entire semester passed before my financial aid went through and they refunded me for the classes i had already paid for. Be prepared to have to pay for classes if you sign up too late or not early enough!
Tips for prospective students Don't listen to people who say community colleges are a downgrade from a university. The first two years in college are practically the same anywhere. The main advantages to a university the first two years are the social events. You also save so much money and i personally couldn't have afforded a university my first two years. NVCC is great especially if you don't know what you want to do yet. The classes are cheap especially for in-state students so you can dip you toes in different waters if you want. If you do know what you want to do, there are guidance counselors that are really nice and help you find out the best route. Definitely check out the guaranteed admittance programs you can get into as well, so you don't have to worry about not getting accepted in the University you want to transfer to after earning your associates degree.
Great for these types of students -if you're not sure what you want to do yet or only have a basic idea
-just taking classes for fun/learning experience
-Students on a budget
-transfering to George MansonLogin to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I heard that once you get into NOVA, they automatically try to set you up with some type of internship or job. I also heard that the school has very good professors along with decent amount of work/space
Will enjoy being here I feel I will enjoy being there because I am close to home and I dojn't have to rush into a big university and have all the stress that brings. I feel NOVA will help me and prepare me to be able to ansfer to a university after two years.
Bang for the buck Two years at NOVA is apporx $10,000
I am very happy about that.Tips for prospective students Hopefully you turned in your Pathways Plan App!
Great for these types of students All types, in my opinion. Anyone who has financial disablilites or just needs to take a break for a while.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot All of the professors are always willing to help. Even if you think the answer is wrong, they rather you try than not say anything.
Am enjoying being here I usually attend the Manassas campus, but I have recently attended the Annandale campus. It is so much nicer than what I'm used to. But at the same time, it's also much bigger. The only place I know is how to get to my classroom, and that's it. I'm afraid of getting lost! The only thing I really do hate is it is not really safe walking off of the campus, as far as cars. I walk to the campus so that I don't have to pay for a permit. It is nice except there is not a lot of space between you and the cars. Also, there are constantly students in their cars coming in and leaving the the campus. I usually wait until there are no cars around me so I feel safe to walk a long distance across the road.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love the professors here! Most of them are very nice and very easy to understand. Like all colleges you will have those few professors that you can't stand, but as a second year NOVA student I have loved my professors. They all know what they are teaching, and how to teach it well.
Am enjoying being here NOVA has great student activities! Almost everyday there is something to get involved in. In the Fall there is NOVA Idol. I myself tried out for it, and even though I didn't get past Semi-Finals I still had a great time. Often there will be cook outs, parties, book clubs, and the Woodbridge Campus recently started a Scholars program.
Bang for the buck The school is cheaper than most. If you plan on going to a four year college, then I would advise take two years at NOVA then transfer. It will save you all kinds of money! I plan on transferring to Liberty University, so I need to save all the money I can.
Tips for prospective students Don not wait until the last minute to get you FAFSA and take your entrance exams. The entrance exams are not as scary as they sound. It's very easy and laid back. When you go in make sure to have all the right documents. bring your birth certificate, social security card, High School transcript, and your Diploma. They will want copies of them. Most of all don't stress over getting ready. If you get confused on something there is an excellent program for first year students. they will pair you up with a student that has been there so if you have any questions you can ask him or her.
Great for these types of students There is just about every type of person at the Woodbridge campus. So really anyone will be able to fit in. If you are the type of person who likes to study in your free time while at school, the Library is where you want to hang out. I would not advise the cafe area, it is very noisy and that is where all the card and video game challenges are held. I really hope this helps you get a better idea of the Woodbridge Campus at Northern Virginia Community College!! It is really a great school and I love it here!!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot They have a lot of classes available at times that are mostly workable into one's daily schedule. It just sucks that not all the same classes are offered at every campus. There are those teachers where if you ask a question about something you are learning, they get a little angry, but other than the very few I have encountered, the teachers are great.
Am enjoying being here Some of the teachers will show up late and expect you to still be there even after you wait for more than half an hour for them to show up. The counselors do not really help that much at one of the campuses I have gone to.
Bang for the buck The tuition rate is great.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Northern Virginia College is very small which helps better with the student to teacher Ratio. I am able to communicate with my professor more easily and efficiently.
Am enjoying being here It's closer to my home which makes it easy to get to and the college is very fascinating.
Bang for the buck The best thing about going to this college is that if you are eligible for in-state tuition you will only have to pay about $1500 for full time for one semester.

Categories Rating Comments Did learn a lot I came from a homeschooling background and thought the academics at college would be harder. I was wrong. There were definitely hard classes and assignments, but I feel like academically, I taught myself. I did learn quite a bit, but more about how to please a professor and learn in a classroom than what the classes were supposed to teach.
The small classes are great for discussion if the professor allows it. Most of the professors I ended up with spent most of the class time lecturing, though.Did enjoy being here The key to enjoying your time at NOVA is involving yourself. Being a commuter school, most people just go to class and then head home. What I found most helpful in getting involved, was plugging into the student activities. I got to know the student activities coordinator at my campus and helped him out when I could. That gave me a small group of great people who did the same thing that I got to know.
Bang for the buck NOVA is nationally recognized! It's inexpensive, but you can get into almost any college if you do well there. Then, you can get a four year degree for much less cost! I was very pleased to see all the guaranteed admissions agreements with four-year Virginia colleges and universities. Get an associates at NOVA with a certain GPA, and you're guaranteed admission into the Virginia school of your choice (make sure you read the agreement for the school you want, though, some have extra requirements)!
Tips for prospective students Come ready to involve yourself! You can still get credits and an associates by just coming to class and passing, but your experience will be much more enjoyable if you're willing to put yourself out there and meet people.
Great for these types of students NOVA's got something for anyone! Whether you're trying to rack up some summer credits to transfer to your school or going back to school after raising 5 kids, there's something great for you. NOVA has excellent diversity in ages and races that will make almost anyone feel comfortable. There are even online classes for those with already-busy schedules!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The environment at the Woodbridge Campus is pretty cool. Most of the teachers are chill; not only do they teach, but they will even have conversations with their students on life, the class subject, or random things sometimes.
Am enjoying being here It is a small campus, with a small lake next to it. In the spring and summer, a great idea to just hang around outside the campus. Inside there is always something to do, with a the Cybercafé, Computer Lab and library where you can just hang with friends, go online or study.
Bang for the buck The tuition is not that bad, and there are so many activities to do, including movie nights, free food events, mini fairs/carnivals, extracurricular clubs and more.
Tips for prospective students Be sure you enroll for classes as soon as possible, and tuition deadlines are very important. Also, keep up with all your work, because procrastination will really kill a full-time student.
Great for these types of students The Woodbridge campus is great for anybody. Most everyone is friendly, and like I said before, you always have something to be entertained with. It's really diverse as well: you see students that are just out of high school, or even some military veterans or older people going back to earn their degrees. No matter the age difference, everyone is friendly at NOVA.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The classes are usually small enough to allow student-teacher relationships to actually mean something. It's very easy to go up to the professors and ask for help with anything you don't understand.
Am enjoying being here While Nova has many pros, it also has it's cons. It may seem like you're going from one high school to another, but in the long run it's completely worth it.
Bang for the buck I've seen people stressing over loans and financial aid and I'm so relieved that that's not something I have to worry about at Nova.
Tips for prospective students Take advantage of everything Nova has to offer, it makes it much more interesting and unless you're completely sure of what you want to major in from your first semester, stick with general studies and get your Associate's Degree so you can transfer out of Nova as a definite junior.
Great for these types of students Nova is great for students who want to transfer to a more prestigious college then they would have been able to straight out of high school. It's also good for students who need or want to stay local, and those who are money-conscious.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors at NVCC are very knowledgeable. They are very caring and understanding, but push the fact that you're not going to get a second chance. If you ever need help with anything each teacher has their own office with office hours. You can go to them with any questions and they'll gladly help and further teach you.
Am enjoying being here The classrooms are the same as high school, except for lecture halls. Most of the time I like being at NVCC, but sometimes I wish I had gone away for college. You don't really get the college experience at NVCC. You meet new people but you don't form bonds with other people, you come to class and then leave campus. Other than that, I do enjoy being at NVCC because there are people I already know.
Bang for the buck I believe going to NVCC is a very smart move for anyone. Not only are you getting the same education as someone who went to a university, but you're getting for a lot cheaper. The professors are great, buildings are close, its close to home, and the school offers many different classes.
Tips for prospective students As a first time student at NVCC you need to take a SDV class. You should take this class during your first semester because you learn a lot about the school and useful college tips.
Great for these types of students NVCC is a great school for those students who are ready to go to college but whom are not ready to go far from home. It's also a great school for students who have to pay for college themselves because in the long run they'll save lots of money.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am telling you right now, go to ratemyprofessor.com
I regret not listening to the reviews on one teacher I have now and I absolutely hate that class just like all the students before me, I haven't learned a thing. However, all my other classes I have really nice, funny, helpful teachers and I enjoy attending their class.
Go to that website, it is very very reliable and search the teacher before you enroll.Am enjoying being here There's always something going around campus, such as free food or college visits which makes it feel more like a real university that everyone doubts that NOVA is (that included me).
Bang for the buck The classes are really inexpensive, just remember to choose your teacher wisely. If the teacher's style is not how you learn you don't want to waste your money when all you do is sit in class just like how you did in high school.
Tips for prospective students Ratemyprofessor.com is a must and join as many activities as you can such as CIRCLE K ! =]
