Teachers hold higher degrees in their fields than at public universities. Most teachers hold a Masters or higher; a majority hold doctorates. This is my 2nd semester and I have noticed that each class seems to repeat a lot. Do not expect a lot of new information if you are in the business field. Most information I have received has been common sense or a repeat. This school is trying to get its accreditation up so expect easy classes to be HARD! Writing 2 papers 10-15 pages each class isn't uncommon. Expect to be graded hard for grammar and not so much the material you write. I have learned to be more focused. These teachers will not give you the easy way out and its almost impossible to get 100% on something. The grading scale is harder for 90% of the classes. You will not get a 4.0 credit for a class unless you have a 95% or higher etc..

    Am enjoying being here

This school has a clear cut agenda. You go in knowing EXACTLY what you need to take in order to graduate unlike FIU where you get to pick and then you realize you took the wrong ones.. then you realize you need to take all these extra tests, etc.

The school is clean and staff is extremely helpful. You can not help but feel spoiled at this school. The scenery and environment is like staying at a 5 star hotel.

    Bang for the buck

If you have any problems with your account of question, call the school and they will immediately assist you with your problems (unlike public schools where they have too many students and no one knows the answer). Everything in this school is BRAND NEW; even the elevators glisten. New gym, huge library, etc. In my first semester, my professor recommended me for an internship (good luck seeing that happen at a public school). The classes are smaller (about 20-30 students), so you can appreciate the more one on one feel. Most teachers will respond to your questions within 24hours, and they know your name!!

    Tips for prospective students

Talk to your student adviser, they will literally help you with EVERYTHING. & DO NOT BUY THE BOOKS! 99% of the time you do not need them or the teacher will send you a power point with all of the notes from the chapters. The student center will let you check out the math books for free. Oh and the best tip is the $70 you have on your student ID (most do not know that you can print $.10 pages all year long with that $70!). If you are an out of state resident!!! $575/hr at FIU or $575/hr at Nova? If you go to FIU as an out of state resident, they will never consider you a resident (you have to leave for one year then go back). It is actually cheaper to go to Nova as an out of state resident and plus you have way less of a headache!

Great for these types of students

Out of state residents!!! Students should be hard working, driven, and has extra money to spend on tuition. If you are a sports major, this college is cheaper than Barry University by about $200 a credit hour and you do not have to fight Miami traffic.

    Tips for prospective students

Great campus, and easy to navigate. Everything is new and the school is always expanding. I love the fact that NSU has the only optometry program in the state of Florida, and they also have an accelerated program for their medical school a huge plus!

So far, the professors are great; they are helpful; they will go out of their way to help you. One of my professors let me borrow their book, to copy chapters out of it, so I could do my assigned reading, since I didn't have a book.

    Am enjoying being here

It is so peaceful, and everyone is helpful. If you help with anything, just ask! One student in my logic class let be borrow her book over the weekend, so I could copy some chapters out of the book, and one copied a chapter for me.

    Bang for the buck

The tuition is cheaper here, then some schools I have investigated.

    Tips for prospective students

Show up for class every session, so you don't miss out on any important information. They only allow so many absences, before they start deducting from your grade. Save your absences for absolute emergencies.

Great for these types of students

Since class sizes are small, it's great for students, who need extra attention.

    Tips for prospective students

nice campus, not large, not overwhelming, they are still expanding - there are areas under construction and room to grow

Great for these types of students

If you live close-by, its great. The immediate area is congested however, and it would take me about 45 min to commute from Boca every day, so I would have to think about living on campus which will only add to my expenses.

    Am learning a lot

Every professor that I have had a class for has earned a degree higher than a Master's. This speaks for itself. The classes are engaging, and (most) of the professors truly care for their students. While they may be harsh on their grading, they are great people to work with. The classroom environment is always welcoming questions from students and healthy class discussions between teacher and students.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy the scenery, and everyone who works in this school. Almost everyone is genuinely friendly, and seems to WANT to help newcomers especially. They try to make you feel right at home. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the campus gets a little boring. If you're enrolling because you think this will be a party school, then you are wrong.

    Bang for the buck

NSU has undergraduate AND graduate programs so that the prospective student can continue their degrees in the careers that they love! The gym is free for students, and every building on campus is relatively close by (within 10-15 minute walking distance). You get a great work out when traveling through campus. Your SharkID is also credited with $75 for use at the library to print out anything for only $0.10 per page, which is great because it lasts the entire year! Again, I give 4 stars because I believe my money (in addition to every other students' payment for JUST tuition) can be put to better use than the aforementioned.

    Tips for prospective students

Undergrads need to know that the classes tend to get repetitive and boring sometimes, but in the end it is worth the trouble.

Great for these types of students

If you want to be successful, you will choose NSU for its long-term benefits of having graduated from a prestigious school. This school is mostly focused on mainly revolving around business and medicine.

The first year is all your common prerequisites so you will feel like you are doing a giant review of high school. The professors do not seem to know what they are doing and some lack a firm grasp of the English language which makes it difficult to learn from them.

    Am enjoying being here

If you have the option, do not live on campus. There is nothing to do on the weekends here and the people are not very friendly. A car is a must! The dorms are nice compared to others colleges', though.

The instructors here are well versed in their research areas and are willing to work with students on problem areas.

    Am enjoying being here

    I LOVE being here.

    Bang for the buck

Initially, I was a little worried about the cost of attending Nova for graduate school. After taking a couple of classes however, it is clear to me that the amount I am paying is well worth it.

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to pursue graduate studies at the Oceanographic Center (I'm a Master's student in Marine Biology), I suggest emailing professors you are interested in working with. They are really nice and almost all of them will respond back to you. Everyone I have met so far has been really patient and willing to talk to students about research projects and such. There are also lots of opportunities for undergraduate students to gain research experience in marine science for use in job prospects or to help jump start an interest in graduate studies.

Great for these types of students

Hard working, goal oriented-be excited about what you want to do, and you will have no trouble here.

My major is Education and the professors were learning from defiantly gives us a lot of their experiences to help us in our future teaching. Your not only learning through the textbooks but through stories shared in the classroom

    Tips for prospective students

When entering Nova be prepared to work hard, meet new people and have a great time. My tip is to balance your studies as well as joining any clubs or having a job.

Great for these types of students

Nova is great for any kind of students. Nova is great for students who just got out high school and want to begin with joinning clubs or studying hard. It's great for older students who took time off and is coming back to school.

The institution is expensive as well as small so it has small classes. It also doesn't have a big a cafeteria so not much to choose from to eat so gaining weight happens to majority of students. I've only been here a week so I can't really say I'm enjoying myself just yet.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you have all your financial aid done before attending this institution. Try searching scholarships as well because your going to need them. Also I suggest getting a vehicle because if not you'll be quite bored and frustrated.

    Dorm Life

I give them a 3 because they didn't even let me choose preferences for my kind of roommate so I ended up with a roommate that is completely opposite of me that enjoys drinking, staying out late, smoking and isn't all that clean as I am. I actually had to be switched from a previous roommate because they had placed me with someone who had beer in their fridge which was forbidden in the dorms. But I would say getting a single room would be better so sign up early for housing.

    Food and Dining

As I said before cafeteria isn't all that big so there is not a great deal to choose from, so students gain weight from the pizza and sandwiches. Technically same thing every other day.

    What to do for fun

Students are able to rock climb, go to gym, and swim. I've only been going here for a week and that's all I've really noticed that majority of students do besides party at some friends house off campus.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

They have a statue or some type of shrine that if a student walks around it or touches it that they get better grades on their test and exams.

Great for these types of students

Great for students who want a head start in their careers especially medical. They have great programs like dual enrollment, job shadowing and internships.

    Clubs and Activities

They have a bunch of clubs that you can use to boost your resume and they tend to have something going on around campus like laser tag or a frisbee contest or something.

    Greek Life

Dont know much about the greeks since I just started here but they dont have greek housing.

    Campus Safety

They protect this school with their lives it seems, I mean they do a good job. They have gates security and police 24/7 and you can always use the public safety if you feel unsafe walking in the dark they give you a ride.

I transferred to Nova my sophomore year and couldn't be more happy I did! For my major (Marine Biology) there is an endless supply of opportunities. The school is taught by great and very helpful professors who genuinely care about your success.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not come to this school expecting a typical college town. The on-campus population is VERY small. However get out and explore and you will find it has a lot to offer in the fun department :)

    Academic Rigor

Courses are very tough but professors are very helpful with great material

    Dorm Life

This isn't a typically college. The doors are clean and most of them are new but it always felt like a bit of a ghost town because doors cannot stay open. Not much of a community atmosphere but having my own personal space was nice compared to the jail cell double room i shared at another college my freshman year. Also NO COMMUNITY BATHROOMS! :)

    Food and Dining

This is where Nova needs a change....there is no cafeteria style dining but just areas to get food like subway, Dennys and Papa Johns. You are alloted an amount of money to spend at some of these places but it gets very old quickly.

    What to do for fun

20 minutes from the beach what else can I say! Downtown Fort Lauderdale is also a hot spot on the weekends.

    Bang for the buck

For the type of one on one communication I had with professors it was worth the money. You are not just a number at Nova but a student with a name.

Great for these types of students

Great for students wishing to pursue a degree in any type of science related field and business.

    Greek Life

    Very small...not well known....

Classes are small. Teachers are hit-or-miss. Academic Advisers are not helpful at all.

    Tips for prospective students

Be prepared to work. Both in class and out. Classes can be rough. Outside of classes you should be prepared to take care of all of your registering and things yourself online. Academic Advisers take too long to do anything important. Also the school is very expensive, so you should be ready to be working a job as well to try to make ends meet if you aren't completely covered by scholarships.

    Academic Rigor

Small classes are a plus, however some of the professors seem to have no interest in teaching at all. Definitely do your research on each professor before choosing a class.

    Dorm Life

Dorm life is kinda dull, as there isn't too much to do on campus.

    Food and Dining

Diverse choices, but it can still get old after a while. Off campus dining choices seem to remedy this.

    What to do for fun

Not much to do on campus if you aren't part of one of the clubs or greek organization. It's very obvious that this is a commuter school as there isn't much to do if you live on campus.

    Bang for the buck

If you aren't going as a grad student or a Biology major you will pretty much be swept under the rug. As a sophomore at the school I've felt pretty underwhelmed by the school. Nova is a school purely for learning, not much else. If you're looking for something more than High School: Part 2, look elsewhere.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing out of the ordinary, pretty small campus.

Great for these types of students

    Grad Students, Biology Majors

    Clubs and Activities

Organizations are really the only things that keep the campus alive.

    Greek Life

Greek organizations are pretty involved on campus. If you are interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, choices are small but they are very involved.

    Campus Safety

Haven't felt unsafe at all at any time.

Nova Southeastern University is an amazing school. The staff there are always willing to help you. Although it is a small school, there are always chances to meet new people.

    Tips for prospective students

Join the Super Sharks program and earn 250 dollars for the bookstore after completing your first semester. Totally worth it!

    Academic Rigor

Professors are very serious when it comes to academics. They want you to learn and their office hours are always a good way to ask what you have confusion about.

    Dorm Life

There's always something going on in the UC and the dorms are pretty cool.

    Food and Dining

This is where it lacks. The UC food is cool, but too expensive. There are cool places around the school though.

    What to do for fun

Join clubs, swim at the pool, play pool in the Flight Deck, or attend shows.

    Bang for the buck

State of the art gym, cool pool, freebies during SEA Thursdays, amazing staff, and events every week make every buck you spend count.

    Clubs and Activities

There's a club for almost everything.

    Campus Safety

A very safe campus! Campus police are of great help, too. They're always circulating the premises to ensure everything is always calm.

At the Jacksonville Florida campus people are really friendly and extremely helpful. The offices in Ft. Lauderdale, especially Financial Aid, aren't really helpful and take awhile to return emails and phone calls. I think that the online professors forgot that we are working professionals and don't have lots of time for weekly projects and papers and take too long to get back or in touch with you.

    Tips for prospective students

My tips would be 1.) if you don't have to take classes online don't because the professors don't get back with you in a timely fashion and expect too much. 2.) take classes on campus or video because the professors are generally better at expectations and communication for they are full-time. And 3.) research and get as much aid as you can because college online or on-campus is truly expensive and the financial aid doesn't help you, especially if you are a graduate student and online, with any financial assistance.

    Academic Rigor

The full-time professors are awesome and treat you like a professional while the adjunct expect too much for graduate working students and don't communicate in a timely fashion. All in all my experience with NOVA is 3/5 stars or a C and I'm the one working my buns off and doing it pretty much on my own.

    What to do for fun

Who has time for fun?! The adjunct professors work you to death after you have a full day on the job. Fun comes between terms by getting caught up on the rest and visiting the places & people you don't see during the term.

    Bang for the buck

In my opinion, having to pay for my own education since district/school doesn't assist, NOVA costs too much for the quality of professors.

Nova Southeastern is an A plus school due to its great professors, and variety of classes. All professors, administrators, and other faculty are extremely focused on allowing, and providing an environment where every student can reach their full academic potential. Nova Southeastern prepares, educates, and mentors students to be ready for their future careers, and lives once graduating from the university.

    Tips for prospective students

For prospective students considering attending Nova Southeastern University be ready to be disciplined. Nova Southeastern is not a party school, so if that is what you are looking for Nova may not be the school for you. You need to understand that the overall focus is mainly on academics rather than the social experience.

    Academic Rigor

The school is very demanding when it comes to academics. Their are exams, homework, and projects. Although the work is challenging the school provides tutoring, and professors are always willing to work, and assist their students.

    Dorm Life

Living at Nova Southeastern is a lot of fun. Your friends are extremely close, and so are all your classes. The RA's are extremely helpful and allow adjusting to the university to be extremely easy. The only issues with dorm life are that not all roommates get along. It is best to set ground rules the first day. Communication and mutual respect must begin right away. Another issue with dorm life at Nova Southeastern is on the weekends the school is extremely quiet because a large population of the students are commuters.

    Food and Dining

Food and dining is the worst part about Nova Southeastern. Unlike many universities the school does not have a large dining room where you can eat all you want with just one swipe of your sharkcard. At Nova the food works just like a debit card at an expensive food court. The food gets old really fast, and your money goes quicker than you would ever imagine.

    What to do for fun

At Nova Southeastern students have a variety of clubs that they can join. The gym at Nova Southeastern is also great, and offers fun work out classes like zumba throughout the week. The outdoor pool is also a place to hang out and catch some sun. The nicest part of Nova Southeastern though is the location. The school is under an hour from Miami, and twenty minutes from Fort Lauderdale Beach.

    Bang for the buck

Nova Southeastern is an extremely pricey school. The campus is gorgeous, and the dorms are a lot bigger than most universities. The main complaints about Nova Southeastern is how the food plan works, and the lack of school spirit.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

The school is extremely beautiful. The most neat place on campus is on the journey to the Parker Building there is a garden with a gazebo inside where you feel like you are in a private oasis.

Great for these types of students

Nova Southeastern is great for students who do not want to go to a party school, and want to focus on their studies. Also for shy individuals Nova is really a good choice because it is really small, and by the end of the first semester most fellow classmen you know. The school is really great for those who are from up north and want to escape the snow!

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and activities need a bit of work at Nova Southeastern. The scheduling and activities often do not have a lot of people remaining interested after a certain number of weeks into the semester. A big issue is that the school spirit is lacking in the student body often because most of the population is commuters.

    Greek Life

Personally I am not involved in Greek Life, but those involved really enjoy it, and are always busy with their sisters or brothers.

    Campus Safety

Nova Southeastern at any hour is extremely safe. Their are always security people around and the housing buildings always have security guards at the front desk.

Nova is a great place for education. It has almost every major possible and has awesome study resources to help any student who is struggling.

    Am enjoying being here

Yes! the atmosphere is wonderful and the weather is fantastic. Not only is the atmosphere outstanding but the people are friendly as well.

    Bang for the buck

Yes every buck you spend at Nova is definitely worth it. You get great amenities like the pool, gym, food, great spacious dorm rooms, and availability to many education resources for studying, research, or even just quiet time.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and do not let things distract you. Take in any opportunity that approaches your way and grasp it hard. Your grades are what are going to determine your life so do not let it slip away.

    Am learning a lot

Professors are very open-minded and willing to listen to any ideas students may have. The feeling of an NSU classroom is laid back and more interactive. Because of the small class sizes, ranging from 20-30 students, professors are able to communicate more easily with students and have more one on one relationships; they get to know each students strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to grade more efficiently and work with each individual. In addition NSU professors are well trained and are some of the top, well known professors... some of them even come from other universities to teach at NSU.

    Am enjoying being here

I am actually a current student at NSU. Although next term with only be my second semester, I feel as though NSU is my second home.Everyone is extremely helpful and friendly at NSU. Commuting back and forth, from school to home, I thought I was going to have a difficult time becoming involved; but there are clubs even for commuters. I have also taken part in the Art Sharks club, Student Success, Dual admissions and Super sharks! At first, I have to admit I was a bit scared about the transition from high school to college, but all worries were lifted once I started. Professors are willing to take the time to help you in anyway possible. Staff is always there to assist you. Also, there are tons of programs and opportunities to ask questions if you are confused about ANYTHING!

    Bang for the buck

Basically, you pay for what you get! Yes tuition is a bit pricier than most other public universities, but the money is all worth it, as it is spent on you. In addition, NSU's financial aid office staff will often do their best to get you enough scholarships to pay for a majority of your tuition... this is especially helpful for in-state students, such as myself. There are also may opportunities to get free things, such as t-shirts (at almost every event), Food, vouchers for books....etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Be aware that NSU holds higher standards for its students, therefore the grading scale is a bit different than some public universities.
Basically my tips for anyone you is planning on attending ANY college is...
    * Time-management (do NOT overwhelm yourself)
    * Stay focused
    * and be prepared to learn ALOT!

    Future NSU students....
    *same as above....
*always keep in mind that shark pride rules!
    *always maintain an open-mid
*DON'T be afraid to ask questions... someone is always waiting to answer you!

Great for these types of students

Anyone who is dedicated and willing to provide the time and money for further education. You do not necessarily need to know your plan/major, but it does help. NSU is the type of university that is quick and to the point, they give you opportunities to get out of school as quick as possible, such as the Dual Admissions program---which basically ensures that your spot is being held at the medical school of your choice, so that you are not wait-listed. When i fist started college in August I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do with my future, I applied for the Nursing Program and got in... but my heart was not in that field. After speaking with my advisers and doing some research, I realized that i could do so much with a Psychology degree. I now hope to complete a four-year degree in psychology and then apply to Occupational therapy (OT) school.

the vast majority of the instructors have been good and fair. there are occasionally bad instructors. i never thought i would be involved in a harassment situation, however, where a female instructor harassed a gay male student.

    Am enjoying being here

caveat emptor the vast majority of instructors are fair and some are really bright. however the school is not fully aware of affirmative action, civil rights, and they sadly don't stand behind gay students to reflect current civil rights law.

    Bang for the buck

nova is not inexpensive. i learned a great deal. however it is the case that they have charged for a class where sexual harassment by a female instructor, of a gay male student, did occur.

    Tips for prospective students

you can't get to know a professor beforehand. however, for traditional minorities this school may very well need some close examining! they are not up to speed on civil rights, the rights of gays and lesbians, and they don't follow through on harassment concerns.

Great for these types of students

i understand a good dentist graduated from here. however the dentist is very much concerned with money. bedside manner may not be the focus of training.
