Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I learned a lot during my first year at Ohio University. However, most of what I learned came from being outside of class because the classes themselves just serve to introduce and provide overviews of the courses. First year students typically are taking the general education tier requirements and a lot of the information will be similar to what was learned in high school.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love being at Ohio University. The school gets a bad reputation for being a party school and I was a bit nervous about that going in, but I have since learned that the school is what you make of it. Sure, it does have a prominent party scene, but it also offers a lot of other extracurricular activities. Some of these activities include Baker movie nights (free movies shown in Baker Center for students), productions/performances/plays (admission is free with student ID), craft nights, dances, sports (Ping recreation center is new and free for students), etc. My favorite part about Ohio University and also one of the main reasons why I decided to attend, is the campus. It is the most beautiful campus I have seen (and trust me, I've visited and seen a lot.) There are many trees, flowers, fields, and animals around campus that make it have a natural and peaceful feel. The squirrel population is enormous and they are extremely friendly. There are also a lot of practice fields, benches and open space where students can gather to play sports, games, tan, read, study, etc.
Bang for the buck The reason why Ohio University gets three stars for this section is because for a public school, it is a bit more expensive than comparable schools like Ohio State University or the University of Cincinnati would be. I've visited both OSU and UC and the food at both universities exceeds the food at Ohio University. Ohio State University in particular has a good swipe system where students can swipe for just about any kind of food he or she desires. Ohio University is more limited in its food selections and the meal plans are expensive. It also should be noted that a student must live on campus for two years at Ohio University and must have a meal plan during that time.
Tips for prospective students Try not to get caught up so much in the partying scene. It's fine to have a good time, but remember you are paying a lot of money to attend college and you should make the most of your experience. Don't skip classes no matter how tired you are. If you don't show up to class, you won't do well. You absorb more than you think by just going to the class. I've learned this the hard way. Also, when selecting a room, be aware that air conditioned rooms cost $40 more per quarter. It is also cheaper to be in a double than a single. Also, realize that an umbrella and rain boots/snow boots are essential in navigating this puddle-prone campus. Finally, go into it with an open mind about the people you will meet. There will be many people from different backgrounds and upbringings than you and it's a great experience learning about different people and their cultures.
Great for these types of students It's a great school for any kind of student. It caters to the ultra-studious, to the laid-back student more keen on extracurricular activity. The atmosphere is comfortable and makes people feel at home and at ease. I would recommend the university to anyone and everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Ohio university offers many great opportunities to help you further your education, however, in order to succeed and learn you must be wiling to work hard and study. If you do both of those you will have a great time here at Ohio University
Am enjoying being here Ohio University is one of the most beautiful campuses around. There are countless groups, clubs, and other activities that you can get involved in to make you stay here at OU the best four years of your life! Also it is a very safe campus.
Bang for the buck Personally I believe Ohio University is expensive, especially for out of state students. From what me and my friends have learned from this past year, OU will try and take as much of your money as possible whenever they have the chance. With this said, OU will give you many opportunities and connections to help further your career. Also you will have a great quality education.
Tips for prospective students For those of you thinking of coming here to OU here are a few tips:
1. GO TO CLASS. This is probably the most important thing to do because, now that we are on our own, we have many distractions and fun things to do. However, you are here to get an education and the best way to do that is going to class.
2. Study: To do well on test and exams, do your work and study so that you will be prepared. Also by study you will most likely get better grades, making your parents happy and keeping you off academic probation.Great for these types of students Ohio University is great for any type of student. There are so many groups, clubs, and other students here, that anyone can find what they are looking for.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Ohio University is a great academic school and I feel I have learned so much in just a year of attending this university. Although, freshman year is based on tier one classes and usually are only review and basics, they are great refreshers and help in your transition from high school to college. I feel these classes helped me greatly and rose my confidence in being able to excel in college classes. Not only are these classes helpful, but the professors are usually willing to work with you outside of class hours.
Am enjoying being here Ohio University, is indeed different and while the location is a bit far from the craziness of the city, it is such a beautiful and enjoyable place. Yes, OU does tend to have the reputation of being a party school, but there is so much more than that to the school and people. The school offers many free events on campus, that are great ways to meet new people! These events can range from sporting events, to movie nights in Baker Center. There is so much to do at Ohio University, you just have to go out and find it!!
Bang for the buck Although Ohio University is a bit on the expensive side, I feel it is worth the expenses. The whole atmosphere and community at OU is amazing, some of the buildings and dorms are in need of refurnishing, but all in all, they are nice places to live. The education offered at Ohio University are worth the costs, and the opportunities are endless.
Tips for prospective students Tips I would give for prospective students would be to enjoy yourself and do not be afraid to experience new things. College is about finding yourself, so take advantage of education opportunities as well as extracurricular activities. Have fun but do not skip your classes because whether you believe it or not, even boring lectures are key to being successful in classes. You are there to learn most importantly! Go out and meet new people and join clubs and new activities, you will be amazed at what you can do and who you will meet. Take advantage of free tutoring sessions and the library, they are so extremely helpful!!
Great for these types of students Ohio University is a college and campus for all types of students. If you make the most of your experience and yourself, you will love OU!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It's way different from high school! I am finally learning what I want to learn. They do have a standard requirement for students in their DARS report which helps students organize their credits and keep track of thier progress towards graduation, but you still get to pick classes that YOU want for YOUR major. Thats the awesome part! So yes, I am learning alot because its what I want to learn and I havent met any teacher that wasn't dedicated to help me if I needed it.
Am enjoying being here It may sound crazy wanting to be at school, but I love OU! Seriously, I once thought I wanted to go to Columbia University because of their amazing Journalism background, but now after I've been at OU for a year and a half, I wouldn't trade it for any other school in the world. No lie. The campus is gorgeous during all seasons. The people are even nice! Everyone I've met has never seemed unfriendly or uninviting. I have a good time and I'm able to focus on my work despite the party school title. The real party happens at Alden, that's our main library. We call it Club Alden jokingly because everybody is always there, getting down to business with their books and its open 24/7 so some people plan to be there all day.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I really am learning a lot at Ohio University. In comparison to other schools I would say that we have many more support services here to help students achieve their best.
Am enjoying being here I love being an OU Bobcat, there are so many extracurriculars offered and it is a club for everything, and if its not a club, you can make one! There is hardly a dull moment living here.
Bang for the buck Our school is a little more expensive, but it's because we are on quarters rather than semesters. It's seriously worth every penny in my opinion.
Tips for prospective students My biggest tip is to take the ACT or SAT as many times until you get the best score you possibly can. Many scholarships are given out, especially for minorities, based on these test scores. So do your best!
Great for these types of students I believe OU is great for any student, but being a minority student myself, I would recommend it for others. There are millions of programs and so many opportunities just for minorities and we need more on campus!

Categories Rating Comments Tips for prospective students If you interested in sport management then OU is one of the best places you can be. We have an extensive alumni network that makes it easier to get a job out of college.
Great for these types of students OU has something for everyone. A top notch student exercise facility that basketball courts, raquetball courts, yoga, soccer, volleyball and the traditional weight room is great for anyone that wants to use it. The campus is beautiful and has reasonable walks all over campus. The people are great and the classes are, well....classes.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love the classes and professors here. Some of the professors/instructors were particularly helpful to me and I often enjoyed seeing them outside of class, usually strolling about campus. The wide range of classes here also allows me to pursue my various interests, like a drawing class I took Spring Quarter, as well as my tiers and general education requirements.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the campus. The people and instructors and staff - everybody - are so lively and happy most days. The rain is a bit of a literal downer some days, but mostly it's fantastic weather. Fall is gorgeous, winter is pristine and spring brings life about in ways that winter couldn't dream of. The party scene is good, if you're into that kind of thing. If you're not much of a partier, (like myself) there's always like minded people and plenty of free shows to see at the various places on Court Street. The only thing I don't like is the lack of film program. It's the only reason I'll be leaving the University and it was a decision that's breaking my heart in two.
Bang for the buck The only thing I would wish for would be a film major that is available to everybody. Right now the only film major is for the Honors Tutorial College.
Tips for prospective students There are TONS of hills. If you're not much of a walker, grab a bike. It rains a lot as well, so bring boots! Be prepared to study, they like exams here.
Great for these types of students Students who like medium sized campuses, students who like rural settings. People who enjoy wild partying on the weekend. People who enjoy kind, intelligent professors.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Although only finished with my first quarter at Ohio University, I've already delved into topics that I initially only had hopes of studying. An example would be that I was very interested in archaeology and mythology, and read much about it throughout high school. One of OU's freshman courses allowed me to revisit my long lost love, and learn a great deal about it in the process!
Am enjoying being here The Athens campus of Ohio University is a very beautiful campus, all things considered; although the winter weather can be somewhat inclement. My professors have been very knowledgeable and willing to help, and are very clear when answering questions. It's a very enjoyable atmosphere.
Bang for the buck One of the downsides is the fact that, like all universities, OU can be somewhat pricey (especially when it comes to dorms and meal plans!) Still, OU's faculty are usually very high quality. All things considered, it's not a bad deal at all.
Tips for prospective students Don't get overwhelmed during your first quarter. The campus is lovely, so take a walk or two. Take advantage of the library. It's very useful. Be mature and responsible--there's plenty of time for goofing off during breaks.
Great for these types of students Students who already live in Ohio get a fairly good deal, especially with scholarships (especially public school students--there are several scholarships specifically for graduates of local schools). OU is also very homeschool-friendly. On the whole, it makes a very good choice for students who want solid academics on a moderate price (and a pretty campus to boot!)

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Pretty much all of my professors are enthusiastic about their topics. They are always looking to get their students as enthusiastic, so they make sure to keep the ball rolling fairly quickly, moving from topic to topic throughout the quarter. Don't be surprised if professors ask the class what they are most interested in focusing on or what topics they'd be interested in learning that aren't included on the syllabus - it's a common practice. However, you won't learn a lot unless you attend class. I know, it's a bummer.
Am enjoying being here The combination of professor enthusiasm, social life, and laid-back atmosphere make this school loved by pretty much everyone. However, the quarter system can be pretty high-tense, and fast-moving. Students rave about the social aspects, the campus, and infinite opportunities OU gives us, but are always ready for a break from class.
Bang for the buck As an out-of-state student, I'm paying a pretty high tuition. However, I'm a Sport Management student at OU, and OU's program is the first and premier program in its field. Plus, they have a high ranking professional club for the Sport Management students AND a great club for students interested in sports agency. I also really enjoy my sorority, and greek life here is pretty well received.
On a more general note, I've heard that, overall, OU has amazing programs that all the administrators and faculty get excited about. Plus, alumni are super-involved, and always looking to extend a helping/guiding hand to fellow Bobcats.Tips for prospective students Have fun. Get involved early and wait to weed out the less important clubs/opportunities. Stay posted on all the events OU has, both for fun and academics. Use ALL the resources (Career Center, Supplemental Instruction, Writing Center, Tutoring, Ping Recreation Center, Athletic Events, the list goes on and on...) - they're free, helpful, and lead to more fun.
Great for these types of students Great for students who can balance work and play well; can be involved in a lot of different things and get homework done; looking to not just learn, but EXPERIENCE; must like Halloween (it's a REALLY big deal here); enjoy small towns and strong communities; committed to ALWAYS being a Bobcat

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I am learning a lot at Ohio University! I am a sophomore who recently transferred here and so far I believe this decision was one of the best I ever made. The GenEd courses are not too hard but I have studied a lot and therefore learned a lot. Yes, OU is a party school, but the classes are just as good as the night life.
Am enjoying being here I LOVE Ohio University. The students are nice and the professors are great. Any type of person could find there spot here as everyone is pretty open and happy. Some students enjoy it too much as there are parties and events happening every night. Keep yourself focused, have a good time, and enjoy the beautiful campus.
Bang for the buck Tuition cost is what you would expect from a state school. It's not much more expensive than other schools in Ohio that offer far less value in education. If you are coming here for something like journalism, which we are ranked nationally for, the price is definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students If you like to have fun BUT can keep yourself under control, welcome to Athens! But if you have a hard time focusing and partying gets in the way of your studies, this may not be the place for you.
Great for these types of students Every type! I have met every type of student here and continue to make unique friends daily.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences ohio university deserves a 10 out of 10! the campus and atmosphere here is remarkable. the teachers really want you to succeed and so do your peers.
Tips for prospective students i recommend living on the green closest to your class locations.
Academic Rigor classes are definitely challenging but they prepare you for the best.
Dorm Life dorm life is my favorite part of college. i love the relationships i've made with everyone here.
Food and Dining shively is by far the best dining hall on campus. the others aren't terrible but shively ranks way higher than the rest.
What to do for fun i go to all of the sporting events and i hang out with my friends.
Clubs and Activities hall council is a great way to get involved in your residence hall community.
Campus Safety we have our own police department that is always on duty. we also have a service provided by students that ensures you don't walk home alone at night.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I love Ohio University because there is a huge variety of classes to choose from. If you are motivated to do something with your life, then you know there are professors and advisers that are there to help you. Though there is a large number of students at Ohio, I feel that there is always someone there to help you academically as long as you ask for help.
Am enjoying being here I love Athens. It seems like everyone can find their own niche in this town. As a first year, don't feel intimidated by other people. The majority of students on campus are extremely friendly. The campus is gorgeous and the gym is excellent. I thought by not having a car my first year I would feel stranded, but in reality I was given a chance to really appreciate this small town.
Bang for the buck Though tuition isn't terrible compared to other schools, room and board is expensive. Students are also required to live in dorms for their Freshman and Sophomore years.
Tips for prospective students Never worry about the party school title. If drinking isn't your thing, I promise you will find people just like you. The school hosts student events specifically for student who don't want to party. All colleges have students who party and drink. It's your own character that sells you to employers, not college stereotypes.
Great for these types of students People interested in the green movement - campus wide recycling, farmer's markets, etc...

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I feel like every single day I learn something new at Ohio University. So many useful things that I may need to recall as I continue my education have already stuck in my head due to the amazing teaching skills provided for me at OU. Most people don't sign on for the education factor, but I could understand if they did. I seriously do learn every day I am here and I know the knowledge is going to stick with me forever.
Am enjoying being here If anyone says they don't enjoy being at OU, they must be from another planet. Ohio University became a second home to me just after my arrival. Not only is the campus beautiful with brick roads, old buildings and tons of rolling hills to please the eye, but the people here are just amazing. Anywhere you go, someone will talk to you, 'just because you go to OU'. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. I don't think any other college really could add up to how fun and friendly OU's campus really is.
Bang for the buck I definitely have received way more in one year of college than I ever expected, and it was completely worth the money. First of all, Ohio University awards many scholarships to many people, so if you need extra help, you are sure to find it. But going to OU is more than just a school, it's an investment. I have made connections already that may help me find jobs in the future. I know many teachers are willing and happy to help with recommendations for any student that asks. The investment I've made by choosing Ohio University will carry with me for the rest of my life and make finding jobs and careers easier than ever imagined. OU is definitely worth the price in the long run.
Tips for prospective students Don't be worried about making friends or doing well in classes, it will come easy to you. People are constantly there to help with studying and managing time. You will feel right at home by the end of the first week and you won't want to go home when Winter Break starts.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned so much at Ohio University and it's only my first year! The academics at OU are outstanding and my professors are truly in love with the subjects they commit themselves to teaching. My favorite class this quarter was my Spanish 213 class, it was difficult, but I learned a lot and my Spanish had significantly improved, thanks to my dedicated professor and hard work. There are so many classes I want to take and am excited to keep learning new things as the years go by, which I hope isn't too quickly.
Am enjoying being here To say I am enjoying being here would be putting it mild. I love being here! I came to this school from out-of-state, not knowing anyone, being over nine hours away from home and the security of my family. However, right away I felt the comfort of home. I had to reach out of my comfort zone, meet new people and adjust to living in a new place, a place I am now happy to call my home. The student body at OU is diverse and friendly and the campus has a homey feeling, it's the most beautiful campus I have ever seen, and anyone here will say the same.
Bang for the buck Princeton review has rated Ohio University as one of America's colleges with the best financial aid and they couldn't be more wrong. OU offers endless amounts of grants and scholarships, and is more than willing to help students in need.
Tips for prospective students Visit Ohio! You wouldn't read a book without looking at the cover, right? Well, same goes for choosing the right college. Ohio University was the last school I visited before I had to make my final decision and was already set on another school, but had the tour set up already. Instantly I changed my mind the second I stepped foot on to OU's campus. It was home to me. Odds are OU offers your major, so the only thing you need to do is schedule a visit and be sure to ask questions, because the people at OU are there to help you and couldn't be more friendly and open to answering any questions you may have.
Great for these types of students Ohio University is a great school for students looking for a big school, with a small school feeling. Yes, there are over 20,000 students attending OU, but the campus is close-knit and easy to get around. Students looking for a beautiful campus that is accessible and has much to offer should look into OU. OU has everything a college should offer and odds are it's the right choice for you!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot At Ohio University, I have learned so much in all of my classes. I felt that in each one of my classes all of my teachers have been enthusiastic about the course they are teaching, as well as a strong passion for their students to achieve as well. The teachers are always available for extra help during office hours, and I can not tell you a single class where I didn't learn at least SOMETHING. Each class was interesting and each class was a great experience!
Am enjoying being here Coming from Maryland, it was nice to meet people outside of my county. Everybody from Ohio is so nice! I love meeting new people, and although it is difficult to find other people who were out-of-state, everybody came from a different part of Ohio which meant nobody knew each other in the beginning either. I have met so many new, friendly, and interesting people. There is also so much to do on and off campus! Whether you go to an event at Baker Center, or to Open Mic Night at Donkey Coffee off campus, you're sure to have a great time anywhere you go!

The only thing I didn't like about OU was that their dorm rooms were a little on the smalle side. I still think it's all worth the cost.Tips for prospective students Get to know your way around campus, and ask for help if you need it.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Going into this school with an open mind, I have come to fall in love with the academia that Ohio University has to offer. WIth its plethora of academic and extra-curricular possibilities, I am learning that there are a billion and one ways to be involved and to keep your options open to new educating experiences. The professors at this school are always there to support you and there are large amounts of opportunities for one-on-one time with your fellow students, professors, and your academic advisor. I have learned more in one year at Ohio University than I ever thought I would in four.
Am enjoying being here With the most wonderful college atmosphere on this side of the Mississippi, Athens is the greatest college town and, being a girl, I always feel extremely safe walking around by myself, even if it is after dark. The best part about being here for me is the extra-curricular activities that I am involved in and how it has helped to shape my college experience. Not only have I built upon my resume for the future, but I have also made life-long friends, many of which I may work with after college.
Bang for the buck Trying to not be too cliche, you can't put a price on the OU Experience (yes, I capitalized it). In the classroom, out of the classroom, in between classrooms. It all is a priceless experience where the best years of your life really come into play. I feel that every dime I spend on tuition, and if you're in-state it really isn't that bad, goes towards every moment I create within these four years in Athens. Not once have I second guessed my decision to come here and, I'm not sure if it's something in the water, but if someone bad mouths Ohio University, you will come to stand up for the O-H-I-O.
Tips for prospective students If you love the college-town atmosphere, this is the school for you. Miami U (of Ohio) claims to have that feel, but a college town has no judgements, no limits, and NO dress code. The academics at this school are extremely strong and if you want to join Greek life, there are a bunch of fraternities and sororities (social, religious, and academic). There are always people willing to help with anything from academics to personal issues to looking for a job or the nearest dining hall. Being in the residence halls for two years, you find your truest and utmost best friends. If you're considering OU, make sure to come visit before you rule this awesome place out.

- love of creativity, writing, or journalism

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot How much you learn is directly related to how much you put into it. The professors I have had have been wonderful, with the exception of only a couple (who happened to be in courses not related to my major). As long as you are willing to learn and put in some effort, you will learn and do just as well as you would at any other school.
Am enjoying being here I cannot even begin to describe how much I love Ohio University. For one, the campus is absolutely beautiful. There are so many flowers, plants, and trees. There are even two little lakes on campus, one with a waterfall, benches and a path around it. We also have a very scenic bike path that winds all through Athens and into other towns. Even the buildings are pretty, as most are made of brick. On one of the dorm greens there are basketball courts and sand volleyball. In addition, the campus is a good size- it takes only about 10 to 15 minutes to walk from one end of campus to the other. We have what we call uptown, also known as Court Street. It has a variety of little shops, bookstores, coffee shops, restaurants and bars you can go to and spend time with friends. If you get bored of being on campus, there is a state park (Strouds Run) a few minutes driving distance away with hiking trails, grills, and a beach. There are sporting events happening year round as well. If you don't care for sports but still want to workout we have an excellent recreation center called Ping- it even has a two story rock wall! There is always something you can be doing, as long as you try to find out what's going on. I love my school.
Bang for the buck Ohio University has an average price- a little over $20,000 for tuition, fees, housing, and dining expenses. I don't think this is a bad price at all, considering how much I've learned, the good friends I've met, and all of the wonderful times I have had thus far in my college career, especially when I see how much private schools cost. I honestly would like it to be a little less, but that's only because I'm a broke college student paying my own way through. In the end, after scholarships and loans, the cost is very low for how much I am getting out of my experience at OU.
Tips for prospective students Be open and talk to people! Nearly everyone I've met here have been friendly and very nice. People are generally laid-back and down to earth here. The student population here is very diverse, but this just adds to all the cool people you can meet. Also, make sure you spend your time wisely - don't forget about studying! There are a lot of things that will distract you from your work, so make sure you get that done and you'll find you have a ton of time to spend doing other, fun things.
Great for these types of students I think Ohio University is great for everyone, unless you are the type of person who needs to be in a major city. Athens is a little college town- we basically double the population of Athens. It's relatively small, but there are so many people that you don't know that you don't even notice. Nevertheless, there aren't a ton of shopping centers as there would be at a college in a big city. This hasn't been a problem for anyone I know of, though. Come be a bobcat!

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Not every teacher is the same, and most have their own teaching style. Some teachers here at not for everyone, but have no fear! If you get stuck in a class where the teacher just sucks at explaining the material or you just are not learning much, OU has so many more ways to learn the material for that specific class. OU provides SI, (supplement instruction) which are students that have taken the class before. The SI's go to every class as you go, and hold classes (usually in the evenings) for a student to ask questions, go over homework, and simply just help! Best part is its free! OU also provides Math Lab's and Chemistry Lab's in Alden Library, which is also free, and who doesn't like free stuff?!
Am enjoying being here I was going to a community college and absolutely hated it. When I transferred to OU, I was amazed. The atmosphere has a homey feeling, is friendly and no, its not all about the partying. There are plenty of people here that are all about learning for their major. Everyone wants to get to know everyone else, so if you come here and you know no one, don't worry, you'll meet so many people your first week, you won't remember names!
Bang for the buck Of course college is expensive. Its always going to be, and you can't get around it. You have housing, books, meal plans, classes, etc. For housing, OU has different prices for different residential halls, since some are renovated, some are mod style and some are traditional. There are also different pricing for singles, doubles, triples and quads. For books, you need to buy them at local bookstores, but what is nice is that some let you rent books at low cost. Also at the end of quarters OU has a book-exchange site, and a facebook page where students post books they are selling or trading or whatever. Every meal plan is at a different price, depending on which one suites you. When you are registering for classes, the registrar shows you extra costs (if any) that a specific class has. I like OU because even though it is expensive like any other college, you have options, which is why I choose 4 stars.
Tips for prospective students Don't over-pack. I thought I would need a lot more than I actually did. Don't be afraid to get involved. If you see a sign for something that interests you, just go! Don't worry about going with someone else because you always meet new people. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone is nervous when they first go to college and chances are, they have gone through exactly what you are going
through. Be respectful. Everyone's mom has told them the golden rule- do onto others as they do onto you. If you come to college being respectful to other people, their stuff and where you live- it will be a smooth experience.Great for these types of students Anyone who loves history, beauty and people. Athens is full of history and beauty but the people are the best! If you want to get to know more people, come to OU. If you want more opportunities, come to OU. They have millions! There are so many different clubs and groups and there is always something going on. You will never ever be bored here!

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Ohio University faculty are determined to keep students on track with their graduation goals. There are many opportunities to participate in school activities outside of the classroom like Fests, Fraternities and Sororities, etc. The university offers a huge variety of majors tailored to every student and even offer a make your own degree major.
Tips for prospective students A tip for prospective students is to keep on top of any charges you owe the University, they will only give you a bill right before your loan comes in so they take it out of that without you noticing until after your refund comes in
Dorm Life Never lived in dorms but I have heard they are similar to other schools
Food and Dining Off-campus dining is good, meal plan is okay
What to do for fun Fests, bars, organizations, fraternities, school sponsored activities like craft night, pizza parties and club sports
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Fests
Great for these types of students partiers

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Ohio University is the perfect balance between open-mindedness and work ethic. It creates an atmosphere of fun but through trial and error allows the student to discipline themselves rather than forcing silly or unnecessary rules on the student. It gives the student the opportunities to grow and explore in a safe comfortable environment that prepare them for the working world.
Tips for prospective students Coming here is a lot of fun. Almost too much fun. The reason is we're the number one party school and have a beautiful open campus that will suck anyone in. The only thing I caution you from is understand that while its easy to stay out late make sure you hit the library once a week. Go there and study or read or do homework. It will make all the difference.
Academic Rigor OU has a lot of classes. Make sure you enroll in the ones your actually interested in. The way I see it; classes are hard when you don't care because then you don't put in the effort. Restrict yourself to classes that mean something to you personally (not just your parents) who knows maybe you'll find a major.
Dorm Life Some of the best times you'll ever have are in the dorm. Theres something about being cramped with hundreds of students you don't know having a completely new experience that seems to bring everyone together. Dorms are fun, but be smart RA's are on the prowl! Dorms are most students first independent living space so have fun designing it and making it your own.
Food and Dining Theres nothing like the dorm food. some people don't appreciate it until they leave the dorm and have to make their own food. Personally I loved it! Dorm food is an unlimited supply of all your favorite food, munchies ect. that you can eat whenever! Here, the best place to eat is Shivley. It almost feels like a community around dinner time, thats when you seen everyone on campus trying to get in.
What to do for fun Well there is the obvious partying that Ohio University is known for. Don't worry, many students come here and ask me how to find a party. There everywhere! walk down the street and you'l see thousands of people just like you looking for a party; that is the party! Aside from the normal college activity theres plenty of fun things to do in our little college oasis. We are a mountain town so the temperature almost always stays moderate to hot and we have gigantic state parks with beautiful scenery comparable to any post card, including a beach and Native American carved caves. Ohio University has something for everyone and appeals to all your sensibilities. I have learned and grown as a person simply from being in this environment.
Bang for the buck Well as far as money goes Ohio University is one of the more affordable schools in Ohio but also has one of the highest job placement ratings of any school in the country so if you want bang for your buck, there you go!
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus As far as traditions go we have them. Far more than you can count. Some of the more well known traditions lie within the party atmosphere. For example we have the biggest halloween celebration in the country and YOU MUST WEAR A COSTUME! Trust me its just more fun that way.
Great for these types of students Ohio University is great for all students. Not just because its a great school and blah blah blah but because its big enough that anyone can find there way here. We have a vast assortment of majors in almost all fields and most of them are highly recognized. The campus rests in the most beautiful little city that is gorgeous to look at. The people here are great and fun and because its a community you don't feel like you get lost in a city like most big city universities.
Clubs and Activities Ohio University has almost anything you could want to learn from rock climbing to yoga, and if you don't see your club here then make it!
Greek Life We have a huge greek experience at Ohio University with tons of activities. If you are unsure about rushing we have a lot of support as well to make sure you have a great greek experience.
Campus Safety Ohio University is a very safe school. trust me once you get here you'll get the text messages. OU has a balance active police force and campus security that are always monitoring and making sure no ones going to crazy.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Ohio University is the place to come if you are looking for a college that has its city based around it. Its a small quaint town with brick roads that has a very tight community in which people help one another. The academics are challenging yet the atmosphere of the city helps you really get an interesting social life with your peers as well.
Tips for prospective students Come to school with the mindset to work hard, when you are a full time student attending classes should be like going to work. Success comes with hard work, the grades you want to get are not easy to come by, they require a lot more work than high school. Have fun, getting your priorities straight and making time for fun is essential.
Academic Rigor Based on your major Ohio University can be a big eye opener in the amount of studying you have to put into your school work. Taking about an hour a day for each class is pretty realistic for any major. The best thing I have found to do is to take the rigorous classes mixed with a few electives.
Dorm Life The dorms are a good thing for incoming freshman and help you adjust to meeting new people. The friends I met when I first moved in are still some of the most supportive and trusting people I know. The only downside is that other people may not be as cleanly as you want them to be.
Food and Dining The dining halls are legit here at Ohio compared to other dining halls I have been at elsewhere. They are constantly trying to accommodate to the students needs and find what they want. You have to also look 'uptown' where there are a ton of good restaurants, ranging from mediterranean food to hot dogs at O'betty's.
What to do for fun Get involved with some clubs and other organizations. Athens is a small town but there is a lot going on in it that a lot of people do not know about. With a ton of student organizations and an interesting night life, Ohio has everything to offer to keep you having fun.
Bang for the buck The tuition at Ohio is currently raising, I don't quite agree with that. While the professors are almost exceptional in every way, most lectures are big and don't focus on individuals. I would also like to see the tuition money go towards making newer residency halls.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ohio University has been known for its tradition as being the number 1 party school and has good reason for it. The fests attract a lot of people to Athens while Halloween is known as the largest party going on. There are many other things to do though other than party.
Great for these types of students Ohio University is great for the students who want to get away from home and find out just who they are. Students who want to find a good medium between tedious school work and a fun and exciting social life. The location is good for students who want to be away from a city and can find themselves.
Clubs and Activities The year is started off with a fair promoting all the clubs and activities here at Ohio University. If you are interested in it they have something for you. The leaders of these clubs want people with the same interest to join and that shows.
Greek Life The Greek life here is not as prominent as I would say other colleges are. The life is here though and is promoted if you are interested in doing so.
Campus Safety I have never felt unsafe here on campus. They have emergency poles everywhere and you can even call campus patrol to walk you home. You rarely here of anything bad happening to anyone.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences It is a very well accredited college despite it being the 'party college'. There are a lot of great students where everyone is friendly and kind. The professors are great and have a passion for their students.
Tips for prospective students Just go to class and put forth the effort and it won't be too bad. Also, just have some fun and meet some awesome people!
Academic Rigor I would say it is about average for a college. You're going to have some really tough classes and some that just need some effort to keep up. I'm a transfer student to OU and it seems to be in line with my other university.
Dorm Life The dorms themselves are typical old dorms. They may not be the nicest but you're going to have problems if you go to a college as old as OU. They aren't terrible though and the residence halls do a good job of putting events together. This helps you meet new people!
Food and Dining The food is halfway decent. There are a couple places to eat that are terrific while some are ok. And, they are working to renovate the dining halls so that they can get better!
What to do for fun There are a lot of clubs and organizations that meet and have fun. You can go out partying (and you don't have to drink) and just hang out. They have extra activities all the time!
Bang for the buck College is expensive! But, it's not really more expensive than other colleges. You can also get very good degrees here so in the end you will be making big bucks.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Well there are several places on Court Street that are well known and really nice. The street is lined with all sorts of stores and shops.
Clubs and Activities There are 100s of organizations on campus to choose from! You really can find something that's right for you.
Greek Life There are a lot of Fraternities and Sororities on campus. Although I am not apart of any, I hear that they are great and have opportunities to form close bonds with a lot of people.
Campus Safety They have had some problems in the past but if you travel with your friends you should do just fine. Also, there are buttons along the paths that you can push if you need help and there is a police station right on campus that you can call.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences A beautiful school hidden in the country with a little bit of an edge. It may be quiet in the morning, but at night the party comes out. Don't be too worried, though, there are plenty of things to do besides live up to the party school
Tips for prospective students Go in with a good attitude. Work hard so you can play hard.
Academic Rigor Depending on the amount of credit hours you take and your major, your course load will vary, but I'm pretty sure you'll live.
Dorm Life The dorms may resemble a prison at times, but they could be much worse. There are plenty of opportunities for you to be very close to your room mates.
Food and Dining This really depends on the dining hall. None are poisonous, but some are definitely better than others.
What to do for fun If you're into the party scene, there are definitely things for you to do, but Athens also has a rich culture of different music, art and theater. You can always catch a show or an open mic. There are also fitness classes, sporting events or just chances to hang out.
Bang for the buck Some things are definitely over- priced (never buy books from the book store), but especially in the communication school, there are so many opportunities for your money.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus In the fall, there is the famous HallOUeen block party which is fun for everyone. Throughout the year there are also street fests, which are usually more for the partiers. Definitely check out Donkey Coffee and Fluff Bakery for a cozy treat or some of the diners for a late night snack.
Great for these types of students I've said it a million times, OU has something for everyone. It definitely has it's fair share of hipster spots, but there are also a million townie, jock, rap, etc spots for everyone to enjoy.
Clubs and Activities There are so many things to get involved in on campus. From Swing Dancing to Snowboarding, from LGBT to Game Show Appreciation, there is something for everyone.
Greek Life While Greek Life isn't HUGE on campus, it is definitely a fun thing to be apart of. Most involved in the greek community are very vocal about their love for it.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences I rate Ohio university a 4.5 stars because its one of the best schools to become a Doctor of Osteopathy and an Orthopedic doctor as well. And from what i heard OU is a good school to meet new people and have long lasting friends.
Tips for prospective students Keep your Gpa high and keep on top of your application and know your due dates for things and make sure to take the sat at least 3times in your high school career.
Academic Rigor The campus's academic rigor can be hard but if you want a good career then you will put in the time and effort in the schooling that you do.
Dorm Life Freshmen can pick out there own dorms plus if you know a second language you can be used in the dorms to translate. For example i know asl i can be used to room with a deaf or hard of hearing person to translate for them if needed.
Food and Dining The choices for food at OU are outstanding with the many choices that you have there plus the meal plans help out allot.
What to do for fun I dont know as of right now i havent seen anything that may be fun up there so ill write back on that.
Bang for the buck The price that a person may pay for out of state may be a little pricey but its worth the price because of everything that you may do.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Ohio University has a beautiful campus. Everywhere you go people will say hello to you if they know you or not. The party life here is crazy but fun.
Tips for prospective students Stay focused.
Academic Rigor The Professors are for the most part good if they speak English. Try to avoid professors you do not understand because you will not succeed in those classes.
Dorm Life The R.A's that I've had were cool as long as you follow the rules and are quiet during quiet hours.
Food and Dining The food uptown is good . If you have a meal plan i would advise you to get FLEX 14 because you can use the left over meals from the week in the market as cash each meal is worth $6 market dollars. This plan also comes with $125 Flex points a quarter which you can use in BAKER only. This is the order of dining halls from best to worse: Shivly, then Nelson and Jeff is about the same, then Boyd.
What to do for fun There is always something to do on Campus you just have to stay ative in the community and be aware of when a event is happening. The University Sends out emails.
Bang for the buck At the College bookstore you can buy a t-shirt and get three free.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus Ohio University has a reputation for being haunted there is an old Insane Asylum right across from the campus. There is also dozens of ghost stories people tell. There is even a haunted dorm called Wilson Hall on West green. On the other hand in the Spring time there are a lot of Fest that go on.
Great for these types of students Fun, Positive, Can party but still get there work done.
Clubs and Activities There Is a Club Team for any sport you can name. There is also Yoga and Zumba nights at the Campus Recreation Center.
Greek Life I have not Really gotten into the Greek Life. From the outside looking in THe Fraterinties and Soroities on Campus are Nice people. Although I Have attended Most of the NPHC programs.
Campus Safety During Fall quarter there were a few Rape cases, But i have not heard of anything since. Only thing i can say about that is do not walk by yourself at night especially if you are under the influence of alcohol there are alternative ways to get home.

Tips for prospective students Just be yourself and be prepared to have the time of your life while creating a life long foundation for success in the mean time.
Academic Rigor The professors here are extremely nice and the work is not too bad if you take the time to focus on it. I feel the grading system is extremely fair and help is always available if you need it, usually its even free!
Dorm Life Living in the dorm turned out to be the best experience of my life, i met some really great friends in my mod that I know will be good friends for a life time. The rooms are a decent size and its a comfortable environment.
Food and Dining The dining halls offer some pretty decent food and they also have markets around campus offering any thing you could need. All the dorms come with a mini fridge/ freezer and microwave.

Bang for the buck Its a beautiful campus that's not too big nor too small. All the people here are friendly and its just a loving environment.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences the university is a very great school to receive an education. not only is ohio university's campus beautiful, but also the general environment itself (people, atmosphere, social, etc.) is amazing and beautiful. i would definitely recommend ohio university to any upcoming college student.
Tips for prospective students ohio university always has some type of event going on for their students and makes their students' college experience worth- while, but one thing you can't forget is the reason why you're going to college. that reason should be to receive a higher education.
Academic Rigor the academic rigor depends on what major you are pursuing, but most of ohio university's college programs are some of the best ones in the country. that is another reason why the university is great: their academic level.
Dorm Life living on campus is probably one of the best things about college. not only do you get a hint of independence, but you also get to meet new people and experience the new college life.
Food and Dining the food is pretty good. the best dining halls are shively and jeff, and then there is west 82 which is in baker. also the grab n' go at all the dining halls are great. the fast food restaurants around campus always have great deals for the students. for instance, dp dough, pizza hut, bw3's, burrito buggy, and many more .
What to do for fun in athens you can go to parties, go to the restaurants on court street, go bowling, go see a movie, go to ping, go swimming, or just hang out with friends. there are more things to do in athens if you know how to find them. sometimes you do have the weekends where there isn't much to do, though.
Bang for the buck ohio university is not too expensive and you definitely get your moneys worth. a great thing about the university is that most of the incoming students receive some type of financial aid, whether it's a scholarship, a grant, etc. as long as you take advantage of your education, then this university is definitely a bang for the buck.

Campus Safety the safety here on campus is good. we do have a few of crime alerts occasionally, but there aren't many. i feel safe at ohio university.

Dorm Life the dorm you have to stay in for the first two years at ohio u. they are nice and well equipped. hey, it is a place to stay dont need to worry about getting all your bedroom and housing stuff down to furnish an apartment or a home. i like the dorm life personally. everyone is different. they are a nice size as well.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences an overall great experience. everywhere you go there are friendly faces. classes are informative-- challenging, but not difficult.
Tips for prospective students i cannot emphasize enough how important it is to not procrastinate! get your application in and any interviews and auditions scheduled. if you have acceptable act/sat scores but are planning to take the test again, go ahead and apply now-- they will up your scholarship when your better scores are sent in.
Academic Rigor my major, music performance, has proven to be very rigorous. the classes are fairly difficult and hours of practice are required every day. however, although the teachers have high expectations, their office hours are always very reasonable and can be contacted through e-mail or phone at just about any time.
Dorm Life dorm life can be great... if you get your housing contract in on time. don't wait last until the last minute! last pick of dorms wasn't a good experience and although i enjoy everyone i live with, i live in one of the farthest dorms from where my classes primarily are.
Food and Dining food varies across campus.
What to do for fun there's something to do everywhere you go in athens. the college of fine arts does a great job of promoting upcoming performances and exhibits. the college involvement center send out daily e-mails, too. but if you don't like any of that stuff, we *are* the #1 party school for a reason.
Bang for the buck a reasonable cost... if you have some scholarships.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus the ridges-- the old athen's insane asylum. must visit.
Greek Life there are sororities and fraternities everywhere you go. if you want to join one, it's easy to get involved.
Campus Safety most paths are well lit and if you're still worried about the walk home you can call ohio university safe-t patrol to escort you home.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I've just finished my first quarter as a dance major at OU. Already I feel I've grown a lot as a person and as a dancer. The faculty is great. They care about the students and are always available to the students if we need something. The classes are challenging but very fun also.
Am enjoying being here OU initially wasn't on the top of my list because I'm from the Athens area. I'm glad I made the choice to go to OU though. It's a great campus and there's a variety of activities to participate in. I've made a lot of great friends and am very happy at OU.
Bang for the buck OU offers a great education for a good cost.
Tips for prospective students Don't come to OU because of it's reputation as a party school. There is a lot more to do than party. I don't consider OU to be a party school. The events such as the block party and different festivals just add to the uniqueness of OU's atmosphere.
OU has the feeling of a small campus. Athens is a smaller town, so be prepared for less of a variety of shopping and recreational opportunities if you're from a large city. Don't let the small town keep you from coming though because it's a gorgeous campus and it's a perfect college town because of the sense of community you feel when you get there. Athens has a lot of unique, locally owned businesses and a really good farmer's market.Great for these types of students OU's great for a variety of students. Come and see for yourself if it's a good fit for you! I'm sure you'll love it like I do.

Am enjoying being here I absolutely love the campus and all of the friends I have made. The town of athens has a home-like feeling and is extremely welcoming. Currently, I am on a 6 week winter intercession, and cannot wait to go back!
Bang for the buck As an out of state student, I am struggling paying for my schooling. Ohio University is extremely expensive for out of state students, however, not completely unreasonable. I personally believe that the hard work I do to earn money is worth my experience at Ohio University.
Tips for prospective students While university run campus tours are beneficial, try to stay with a friend who goes to the university for a weekend! It is really helpful to get both an administrative perspective on the school as well as a students.
Great for these types of students Students who are able to balance work and play well. Ohio University presents students with so many options that it is easy to lose sight of other responsibilities. Students will do well at Ohio University if they enjoy college night life as well as hold their academic standing high on their priority list.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The professors here really care about your progress and take the time to explain most questions in class or at least during office hours. As long as you keep up with homework and ask for any help, its easy to do well.
Am enjoying being here OU has a wonderful learning community, which is very tight-knit. As long as you have some hobbies or interests that you enjoy or are curious about, it is always possible to find like minds.
Bang for the buck This school offers an honors college unlike any in the country. It is based upon the tutorial system in Cambridge and Oxford, where students are assigned tutors to teach them their area of study at an accelerated rate. If you can get into this program, you will get the most out of your major, guaranteed.
Tips for prospective students Enjoy campus life, but don't get too caught up in the party or drinking scene. Always visit with your professors during the first two weeks during office hours to ask questions, and, if you find this course hard, to ask for advice of how to do well in this course.
Great for these types of students Serious acadmics will love the HTC program, as well as classes outside of the college; sport fans will enjoy the basketball and football, both of which are doing quite well; and art/dance majors will love the wonderful facilities, as well as the more creative class settings.

Bang for the buck School is expensive, end of story.
Tips for prospective students Always try your hardest.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot There are some great professors at this school. But, the university is lacking in a whole in the Math department, every math professor I have had was flat out horrible.
Am enjoying being here The campus is amazing, OU is awesome.
Bang for the buck It is a little expensive to attend but too ridiculous. I just do not see the university putting money back into the residential housing.
Tips for prospective students OU is a great school and a better campus. Just make sure to check out the a/c available for your dorm room because it an get awfully hot in the summer time. Make sure to join a learning community; there not the best class but it is an easy A and it really helps undecided students pick a interest of study.
Great for these types of students OU is great for any laid back student that wants a down to earth college experience. It is also great for any student that is interested in journalism, Scripp's College of Communications is nationally renowned for it's journalism.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Even in classes in which I have very little interest, such as COMS 103, I've learned numerous everIyday lessons along with practical and critical thinking skills.
Am enjoying being here I'm fortunate to have found a balance between school work, play, and student organizations to make the most out of my time at Ohio University. With this balance I'm having the best few years of my life.
Bang for the buck When searching for universities, my two main concerns were finding a school that offered a program for my intended major and one that was fairly inexpensive; Ohio met the criteria.
Tips for prospective students It's fairly difficult to find a balance between work and play when you are in college. It is easy to get distracted by all of the distractions any college environment brings, but once you find that balance you will do well.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot My major is Actuarial Science and I find most of my classes to be challenging. I have a fairly large workload, but it is just about right for the amount of free time I have.
Am enjoying being here This college was a great decision for me. I really enjoy the feel of the campus and how friendly everyone is. It's so easy to make friends, and contrary to popular belief, you do not have to party to fit in.
Bang for the buck I think the money was one of the reasons I decided to come here. Ohio University is well worth the money, I could not see myself anywhere else.
Tips for prospective students Come visit the campus, and you will immediately know whether you want to go here or not.
Great for these types of students Social people looking to have a good time, while learning a lot at the same time

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot I was accepted and visited this college quite a few times, and I always received a valuable impression of the academics. I will definitely learn much needed information at this institution.
Will enjoy being here Ohio University is a beautiful school, and I love the size. I does not feel too big or too small. The school is scenic, and yet the building are close enough together. I will enjoy being at this school.
Bang for the buck This school has a moderate cost compared to others I have considered attending. This school is a good distance from home, but it has excellent academics and it has a beautiful campus. This school has an okay bang-for-the-buck value.
Tips for prospective students I would recommend reviewing the majors offered at this school because I was looking for Marine Biology and yet it was not offered here.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot From the moment I stepped on campus my learning began. I learned about Spanish culture because a graduate student (whom I became close friends with) happened to live right next door to me in my dorm (I lived in Boyd freshmen year). The complexity of the classes and the challenge to think outside the box is always present. Ohio University is a genuine place of learning and it literally begins when you first move in.
Am enjoying being here The best people in the world go to Ohio University. The time flew by and I found myself dumbfounded when summer arrived. I had made numerous friends, expanded my views on most everything, and had experienced differing cultures firsthand through classmates.
Bang for the buck If you're looking for a public school that will cause the most positive impact on your life, go to Ohio University.

Categories Rating Comments Will learn a lot This is such a great learning environment! On top of it, I have some really dedicated roommates this term that have the same goals as me! I feel like the teachers will be there for me whenever I need them, but I also know many students that can help me too!
Will enjoy being here I have so many friends there already and I can't wait to make more! This is going to be an experience of a lifetime and I can't wait to see all of the amazing things OU has to offer me!
Bang for the buck OU has so much to offer a student! If there is one thing that you don't like about the campus, it's OK because there are about a billion other things that will attract you to this campus. Most of all, you are getting an exceptionally great education for a good amount!
Tips for prospective students Look into OU, but most of all, VISIT THE SCHOOL! This is the main thing that will help you decide that you for sure want to go to OU. Also, apply to other schools as back ups. Even if you know you are going to get into OU just do it to be safe. I applied to 4 other schools and got into all of them, but once I go the acceptance letter from OU that didn't matter to me anymore. But to think back and think what if I didn't get into OU and I didn't apply to other schools really scares me. So make sure you apply to other schools just to be safe.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot It is required to take a very well-rounded variety of classes, and as long as you go to every class, you'll end up with a very well-rounded variety of knowledge.
Am enjoying being here The campus is beautiful, and I got involved with Young Life Ministries and got a very good group of friends. The professors are all really nice, and work with you very well. I love it here!
Bang for the buck I'm getting a very high-quality education, with very high-quality professors and technology. My only complaint is the price of living on campus, which is a little high, but that's it. In the Scripps College of Communication, you're getting a Bachelor of Sciences, which looks better on a resume than a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Tips for prospective students Get involved. Right after convocation there is an involvement fair, with every single club and organization represented. Get involved with as much as you can handle. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge you can gain about your major by working with other people in that major, not to mention you will get your name out into the network.
Great for these types of students I'm in the Scripps College of Communication, and it's really great for students that are wanting to get into the production world. The professors know what they're talking about, and we have state-of-the-art technology to produce high-quality projects that will get you noticed.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot GO TO CLASS!! If you go to class and do your work, you'll do great! Of course, there will always be those simple classes that you may get by with not going to every once and a while. But seriously, just go to class and do your work. You are paying for it. Lectures can be kind of long and bored, so take notes. It'll keep you awake and plus then you'll have something to go back over and study for later. It helps to write things out the way you understand them.
Am enjoying being here I absolutely love OU! It definitely has a party scene, but trust me there are always other things to do! Partying is not the only option down here. It's beautiful here, so take a hike around and see what's here! You might be amazed at what you find here. All around, OU is wonderful. It's a nice change from flat Columbus.
Bang for the buck Like I said before, if you go to class and do your work you'll definitely get what you deserve. You will get what you pay for if you apply yourself, if not, well then you will get what you deserve and probably fail a class or two. OU has definitely been a life changing experience for me and I would never give this up.
Tips for prospective students GO TO CLASS, always!!!
Do your work.
Study hard and play hard.
Have fun and enjoy things, don't let yourself get way too stressed to enjoy being in college!
Find something that distresses you...trust me classes get stressful. You may want to pull your hair out sometimes, but it's always worth it in the end!
COME TO OU!!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot OU is a great academic school. In high school I was hardly motivated to try my hardest during classes. However, in college I am a completely different student. Many of my teachers were knowledgeable and interesting which helped to make some of the duller subjects exciting. I am finally getting the opportunity to take classes that are of interest to me. OU also has hundreds of clubs and organizations for students to join. I have found that these clubs and organizations create opportunities for students to learn things that the classroom can not teach them.
Am enjoying being here Ohio University has a picturesque campus. The rolling hills, brick sidewalks and buildings, and the colorful foliage are absolutely breathtaking. During they day, OU's campus is perfect for relaxing outside, walking, running, biking, exploring, and just about any pastime you can think of. OU is known for its night life. As fun as it may be, partying is not for everybody. There are so many activities for students to partake in if they wish to steer clear of the party scene at OU.
Bang for the buck For in-state students, the tuition at Ohio University is very reasonable. There are numerous scholarship opportunities for students who are in need of financial aid. Regardless of the price, OU is an amazing school. The academics are top notch, the campus is gorgeous, and the student body is friendly.
Tips for prospective students I would advise prospective students to not look past this amazing school simply because of its party school reputation. I will admit that I had my concerns about Ohio University, but after completing my first year I could not be happier. Getting involved on campus is a great way to learn, make new friends, boost your resume, and have a lot of fun.
Great for these types of students Ohio University is great for students who have a passion and eagerness to learn and excel. The students that I have encountered are very ambitious and involved in multiple organizations on campus.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot OU has fantastic professors that truly care about educating you. They will encourage you to question what you have learned, to open your mind, and to learn not only in the classroom, but in all aspects of your life.
Am enjoying being here This school is a residential campus, meaning you must live in a dorm for your first two years out of high school. The Residential Housing staff is fantastic in creating communities and planning all different types of activities geared at student interest. There is never a dull moment whether you are on Court St, on College Green, or just hanging out in your residence hall lobby.
Bang for the buck Although any college is pricey, OU definitely makes their cost worth it. There are plenty of places to get edible food, the rooms are decently sized so you don't feel like you're living in a closet, and the education you get is worth the money. Not to mention, there are many scholarships available to help with the cost.
Tips for prospective students Visit. You want your college to feel like home or you will not enjoy your experience and as a result, you will not enjoy learning. OU has a way of making everyone feel at home.
Great for these types of students If you like a diverse atmosphere with a lot of excitement and passion about learning and experiencing life, this is the place for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have learned a plethora of information in and out of class. Going to lectures and doing is extremely important if you want to do well. Most of first year classes are similar or identical to high school courses, but chances are they will get a lot more in depth on topics. If you do not go to class, you will miss a lot of useful information because the curriculum is fast paced. Ohio University has also allowed me to open my eyes to what is important in my life. I know that I am able to control my life now, therefore I can choose the path I want to take for my future. College is not all about learning and memorizing information, its also about finding yourself.
Am enjoying being here I have greatly enjoyed my time at Ohio University. The atmosphere is very laid back and in a beautiful area. Involved in organizations or not, you will meet so many people with so many different cultures, backgrounds, and personalities. Do not be afraid to get involved, even if you are doing it alone. There are endless opportunities to volunteer, get involved in clubs, visit art exhibits, see movies, listen to famous speakers, pick up a new sport or talent, and I could keep going.
Bang for the buck Ohio University does cost a lot of money, but when you get to live on the beautiful campus, partake in any organization of your choice, and utilize complexes like Ping (sports and recreation center), the money suddenly seems to be worth it. Housing and meal plans are primarily my only disappointment when it comes to cost. Dorms are small and meal plans are way too large, but always use your swipes! One important thing to remember is that you are paying for your meal plans and you should never let your money simply go to waste.
Tips for prospective students College is not all about partying and drinking. Just because you want to or are going to Ohio University, does not mean you have to fall pray to peer pressure. Enjoy yourself through your own personal preferences, but always keep up with your school work. Getting your work done and doing well should be your top priority in college, as you are paying for it. In college, you are free to be who you want to be. Study hard, get involved, and you will still have plenty of time to have fun.
Great for these types of students Students who are willing to enjoy a laid back college lifestyle, while keeping up with school work and still having fun. No matter who you are, what your interested in, or where you come from, Ohio University holds a place for you.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot Being a Pre-Medicine student for Biological Sciences is no walk in the park but I love my professors and I've learned a lot so far. I definitely recommend this path if you are up for a challenge!
Am enjoying being here With a time-consuming major, it's been hard to find a good group of friends this year. The campus is beautiful and there are so many options! I would definitely enjoy it more if I had more time!
Bang for the buck I love the classes, the accommodations, and the campus.
Tips for prospective students Just relax and study during the week; too many students get caught up in the social aspects of college and forget what they're really there for! I've seen too many students drop out of college as first year students this year because they don't put in the effort. Work hard during the week and have fun on the weekends!
Great for these types of students Anyone who is social and likes to get involved. There are so many options for majors that this school is right for everyone.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot If you are serious about your education here, you can learn a ton of wonderful information. I have certainly learned a lot of valuable information in the courses that I have taken.
Am enjoying being here Ohio U is a very enjoyable place to be earning an education. Despite OU being high on partying, I am not a party gal and still have tons of fun. I am not only enjoying myself outside of the classroom, but in them as well! Athens is a small town, but there is tons to do and so many people to meet!
Bang for the buck Ohio is a great school, and being a state school, it isn't as expensive as many other colleges and universities. Although earning a degree is quite exorbitant, it is well worth it.
Tips for prospective students It is difficult being a college student. Be true to your values, do your best in school, and enjoy yourself. Courses can be very difficult, and sometimes you will be tested to your limits and breaking points, but don't give up on yourself and your education. Everything works out in the end, just maybe in different ways than you had pictured. Find resources on campus and USE THEM! They can make a huge difference in your experiences at school.
Great for these types of students Ohio University can be a wonderful place for anyone. It's located in a small town with a lot of people. It's the best of both worlds, if you are like me. I am from a small town, so I love the home town feeling. Also, I enjoy the city life and Athens has a special way of bringing both feelings into one.

Did enjoy being here Yes and No.
The campus was beautiful and I loved that part.
The other things made me not enjoy it.Bang for the buck Yeah, it's a lot cheaper than other schools.

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot I have gotten so much out of my classes at Ohio University. The class sizes are perfect. They are not too big or too small. As a freshmen, I had a few large lecture courses but I still felt like an individual student, not just a number. Most of my experiences with the professors has been great. I have meant so many amazing educators who have helped me and influenced me. I have been able to take a wide array of classes and subject matters. I feel like I am getting a well rounded education.
Am enjoying being here I love living in Athens, OH. It is an amazing community. It is just small enough that you feel as if you are a part of a community - but it is not too small either! There are so many opportunities. There are so many great organizations on campus and there are plenty of ways to meet people. It is also an absolutely beautiful campus as well!! We are surrounded by trees, rivers, parks, woods, and even a beach area at Strouds Run Park.
Bang for the buck There are a lot of budget cuts going on currently so it's been a little rough lately. A lot of students aren't happy with our current administration because of the kind of things are tuition is used for. In comparison to other schools, however, I think it is worth the bang for the buck. It is cheaper than a private school and if you are in state, it's definitely worth it.
Tips for prospective students Get involved!! It is the best and most important way to meet people. Get out there and join organizations that have similar interests to you. I met some of my best friends through organizations.
Take your studies seriously!! You can get by if you party hard every weekend but you will not be reaching your full potential. Keep your priorities straight. You have the opportunity to be extraordinary.Great for these types of students Open-minded students

Am enjoying being here I couldn't ask for anything better. I have three great jobs through the school and the community is to close and kind.
Bang for the buck Tuition is expensive for a financially struggling family, but I understand why is costly and still love being here.
Tips for prospective students Don't come here if you're just looking to party. Parties can be found everywhere. Come here if you fall in love with the community and local delights.
Ohio University opens a lot of doors for students, exposes a lot of cultures and beliefs, as well as encourages students to be well rounded.Great for these types of students Cultural, committed, friendly, and people who want to learn.
