    Am learning a lot

I have learned so much from this institute. The school has numerous options that helped. The first option is having the professor meets with the student to go over notes. Second is to create a study group. Third is the best option of all. The school has a Student Learning Center for each subject that is offered. There is a tutor who will meet who with the students by appointment or walk in.

    Am enjoying being here

It is a lot of being at the institute. It offers so many activities. The campus is quiet and peaceful as well. The school brings a secure feeling for first time students or any student for that matter.

    Bang for the buck

The cost for each class is very manageable. It is a major difference from a university. Apply for financial aid on a website called fasfa.gov.,by doing so you may not have to pay for anything.

    Tips for prospective students

This institute is a great opportunity You will learn so much.It is very easy but will take all of your dedication as well.

Great for these types of students

This institute is good for any student who wants to further their education education.

    Am learning a lot

Obviously the type of learning environment created varies from professor to professor, but one can always expect small class sizes.

Many of the courses considered to be high risk (those that have a greater percent of students withdrawing or failing due to rigorous coursework) have supplemental instructors (SI's) who hold study sessions outside of class and are more than willing to help.

Though the courses at this college are not considered to be difficult, I have still found myself learning a great deal more than most would have expected. The upper-level math and science professors (specifically those at the Eissey campus) are brilliant. As long as you are willing to learn and put forth the required effort, you will excel.

    Am enjoying being here

While this school is a sort of stepping stone on my way to a university, and I do look forward to transferring to a post-secondary institution with a bit more prestige, I cannot help but enjoy my time here.

Palm Beach Community College offers a fairly comfortable environment for everyone from recent high school graduates to non-traditional students. I have always found the faculty and staff to be friendly and helpful and the students are generally respectful of others.

The campuses aren't overly crowded and if you're willing to walk a little you can usually find somewhere to park which is more than can be said for many universities.

    Bang for the buck

Even though the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship has recently reduced its tuition coverage, the majority of community college tuition and fees are still paid.

For those who do not have this scholarship, community college tuition is still far less than tuition at a public university and after earning your associate's degree, the credits should transfer to other post secondary institutions, which saves you money in the long run.

    Tips for prospective students

While some may consider community college to be an easy alternative to a university, the expectations at this level are still higher than some students may be used to. The environment is a bit less structured in the sense that there is less busy work and more independent studying. In order to do well at this school you must be willing to put put forth the effort necessary to learn the material and you have to know when to ask for help. There are plenty of resources available to help you learn if you are only willing to look for them.

Also, get involved with some of the extracurricular activities available. There are plenty of organizations, both academic and social, to help make your time there more enjoyable. It's a great way to meet people who share your interests and the academic organizations may even help to reinforce what you are learning in your courses.

Great for these types of students

This college is great for part-time students who are working as it offers a classes at night and on weekends. It is a great fit for non-traditional students who have not been in school some time because it offers them a way to start over without breaking the bank or forcing them to completely alter their lifestyle to fit their class schedule. Last but not least, it is a great option for recent high school graduates who aren't sure what they want to major in, want to stay close to home, want to join one of the limited access programs (nursing, firefighting, etc.), or simply want to save up some of their money before transferring to another institution.

It is such an amazing school, the environment is extremely welcoming and the Professors are amazing. There are so many resources for the students and there are activities going on every month, it is the most inviting and coziest school I have ever been to.

    Tips for prospective students

You should use rate my professor or academic advising and go to student activities for school events. The classes are 75 mins but they go by fast and you have plenty of time to get from one place to another. Also get involved because t will benefit you in the long run when it comes to recommendation letters.

    Academic Rigor

Education is a top priority and all the staff, faculty and administration want you to succeed. The classes are quite varied, and with some effort the classes will really get you interested.

    Dorm Life

    No dorms but great environment

    Food and Dining

    Food is awesome!

    What to do for fun

Go to different events, there is always something going on.

    Bang for the buck

You get a great education for what you pay and it less than $100 a credit hour.

    Clubs and Activities

All the clubs are amazing and you will have so much fun even if you join just one. You will feel super involved and it's a great way to make life long connections.

    Campus Safety

Campus police are always around patrolling, just to make sure everyone is okay at all times.

Palm Beach State College has it's goods and bads, but don't let that deter you from attending this school. Many of the teachers here are very cool and helpful, and you will never feel like you're not good enough to be whatever it is you want to be. This is a great starter school, and will help you be better prepared for when you are ready to move on to a university.

    Tips for prospective students

Take in things one day at a time, and don't stress out too much with things that might pop up. Remember, this school is just a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

    Academic Rigor

The classes can be a challenge, but there are not overwhelming. You can do it.

    Dorm Life

There are no dorms at this school.

    Food and Dining

The food isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. If you don't want to risk your enjoyment with the school's food, you could always purchase your food either from the Dunkin Donuts in the cafeteria or the Wendy's across the street.

    What to do for fun

There's almost always some sort of event going on. You'll never get bored.

    Bang for the buck

Basically, what you put in to this school is what you will get out of it. If you really have a goal in mind and dream big, you'll do great.

Great for these types of students

Like I said earlier, this school is great for students who want to use this school as a stepping stone to a university and, eventually, bigger and better things.

    Clubs and Activities

There's almost always something going on.

    Campus Safety

I'd say that the security is pretty good. There are always security guards patrolling the parking lots for any wrong-doing.

Overall, Palm Beach State is a great college. Everyone is willing to help you, especially the teachers. The best thing about this college is the fact that it's so close to home!

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips are: be ready for college, relax and study before hand, and finally just have fun. Don't get to stressed out.

    Academic Rigor

The Academic Rigor is fair. If you do your work, you'll do fine. But if not, you'll probably fail. There's even labs like the reading and math labs if you need extra help.

    Dorm Life

There's no dorms at this college. I leave at home and drive to school each day, it only takes 10 minutes to get there.

    Food and Dining

There are not many choices when it comes to dining. There's only the schools cafeteria food and a Dunkin Donuts. Wish they had more choices.

    What to do for fun

There's many things you can do for fun. The school has basketball games and baseball games, and also many clubs. If you're more interested in other types of fun, you can go to the beach, which is many 10 minutes away from the school.

I feel that this college has greatly improved over the years, and continues to provide the tools necessary for the students to be successful in their learning experience. However, some of the professors should be re-evaluated for teaching in a college atmosphere and having language barriers, such as too strong of an accent to be clearly understood.

    Tips for prospective students

Take advantage of the free tutoring available to you and the career counseling, so that you do not waste your time in courses that are not necessary toward your degree.

Overall, I'm very happy with PBSC.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you ask a lot of questions; more information from the beginning will save you trouble at the end.

Palm Beach State College is a great start for me. So far, I have been able to do so much in class; most of it is hard work, but if it gets me ahead in life at a minimal cost, I gladly accept it. I seriously can't think of a better place for a South Florida high school graduate to go than Palm Beach State College

    Tips for prospective students

If you want to go to college in the South Florida area, mostly around Boca Raton and Lake Worth, this is the best place to go; cherish it every chance you get. Don't waste time here; they go to good lengths to entice you into studying in their special buildings. I've gone there several times, and I've gotten better grades by talking to people and getting tutored by the specialists there.

    Academic Rigor

For Florida standards, the teachers at Palm Beach State are, for the most part, experts in their subjects. They are professors, even adjunct professors, dedicated to giving you what you need. I can't rate them perfectly, unfortunately, due to the fact that there are some teachers I myself did not prefer.

    Dorm Life

There's no place to really dorm at PBS, or at least the branch I go to; it's a state college, after all, not a university like FAU. However, the areas are convenient enough for me to go to, and some have good synergy with neighboring colleges.

    Food and Dining

The food given in the cafeteria is passable. The one in Boca Raton has vending machines, the usual cafeteria branded foods, as well as college-made dishes. Some are not as good as others, and the ones under the heat lamp are bland, but filling.

    What to do for fun

There are several clubs around Palm Beach State, such as the QED, the Rotaract Club, SGA, the Salsa Club, and others.

    Bang for the buck

The college is cheap, but it has everything you really need for a college experience.

    Clubs and Activities

See above for what to do for fun. The clubs are really the only enrichment you can get outside of paying for classes.

    Campus Safety

The campus itself is very safe, with reminders of what can happen to unattended items flashed all around the school on TVs. I myself can admit to losing or forgetting books or a lunchbag around the school, but they are never touched or moved. I once left a lunchbox outside for an entire class length, and no one touched it or moved anything inside.

The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A nice atmosphere on campus, the surrounding area is a bit low-grade, but I feel safe on campus. The tuition is a great price point too, the lowest around.

    Tips for prospective students

Check Rate my professor before choosing a professor, I had a great experience but my friend who can only choose classes to fit in her schedule without checking the ratings had a bad experience.

    Academic Rigor

It depends on the class, some are more work than others, average is three stars but math for me is 5 star rigor, as well as the history summer course was 5.

    Food and Dining

    Cheap food, unhealthy, the usual.

    What to do for fun

They have a lot of events and clubs!

    Bang for the buck

You can get a really great starting education here for a low price.

    Tips for prospective students

make sure to check out ratemyprofessor website and register for classes early! the classes that good professor teach get filled up before the semester starts! and one more thing, avoid going east of the i-95...unless you want to up your chances of getting mugged :)

    Dorm Life

no dorms here, but there are nearby apartments to rent. wouldn't really recommend it though since the cheap or low cost apartment are on the east side of the highway and this is an are that isn't too safe...it's basically the hood or 'ghetto of greenacres.

    Food and Dining

nothing but fast food restaurants all around, but wendy's is walking distance from the college. i prefer to eat healthy food, so that's why the rating is so low!

    What to do for fun

beach (5 minute drive from the college), bowling (15 minute drive to don carters), mall (boynton beach mall, about 25 minute drive), and local clubs (like rumbas 30 minute drive) if that sort of thing is what you like.

    Bang for the buck

The value of education is just like any other college or university. They teach and as long as you pay attention and learn to focus attentively, you'll learn. I feel as though within the last two years that I've been there I've learned quite a lot.

PBSC is great for students who don't want to live on campus and great for students who want to work.

    Am learning a lot

I just transferred from Florida Atlantic University completing my prerequisites. I was accepted into Palm Beach State College Nursing Program. I have attended Palm Beach State during the summer sessions and I love the one on one as compared to a university, the students are just their ID. The teachers never get to see what type of affect their education and surrounding have on one's life.

    Am enjoying being here

I wish Palm Beach State was more of a university feeling.

    Tips for prospective students

I would advise every student to experience community colleges because its less expensive and it also help to save for the big universities, and etc.

    Am learning a lot

I am learning exactly what I need to learn from the classes I am taking. In all my classes the material is explained before the work is assigned so I am not just teaching myself but working while the professors are assisting me. I do have to say though that some classes/professors are more independent learning than others. The amount of work required from each class is dependent on the professor, I have found that I work better with different professors than other students so while many people say that ratemyprofessor tells you everything you need to know about a professor you do have to really consider how you will work with the professor based on the post from other students.

    Am enjoying being here

I feel that as a sophmore in college this was really the best place for me to be for the first two years it allowed me to get used to the work required for college and how independent you have to be for sucess in college. I do think that this is the best place for people who are not 100% sure of what the want to major in because they can get some of the required AA degree credits completed.

    Bang for the buck

This was one of the biggest decision making factors for me because I got to find out exactly the major I wanted to pursue and it did not cost my a lot to complete my AA degree.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely check with people you know who have taken classes that you are getting ready to take to see how they felt about the professor they took the class with.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for all students who are ready to continue their education.

    Did learn a lot

Community college is a great time to learn about yourself and what you like to do. I did that here at PBCC, if you like a professor or certain course work, take another class in that field and see if you don't fall in love...I did!

    Did enjoy being here

There are times you love it and times you don't, but if you join clubs and make friends you are going to have a great time and never want to leave!

    Bang for the buck

Apply for the Foundation Scholarships they have and that should really help the cost.

    Tips for prospective students

Even though it is community college, take it seriously. Join the Honors College or Phi Theta Kappa; do things that are going to set you apart and help you to learn and grow! Keep a high GPA and you will get into any 4 year university! Also, if you plan to transfer do not wait until your last semester to start doing research on where you want to go...do that ASAP!

Great for these types of students

    Everyone!

If you're looking for challenge, you need to make sure you choose the right teachers not everyone here can have the same look at academics as you. I've definitely found a couple of great teacher from which I've learned more than I thought I would have.

    Am enjoying being here

As far as as the environment, the school is not stressful. I'd definitely look forward to have the actual college experience at a bigger university when I transfer.

    Bang for the buck

The school is very affordable. There are tons of possibilities to get aid from scholarship and grants to loans, not only outside the institution but within.

    Tips for prospective students

If you decide to come to the school, and are planning to transfer, make sure you use your time wisely. Time goes very fast and you can easily lose track of it, and not realize you need to get many things ready before your graduation, especially if you are undecided about your major.

Great for these types of students

Undecided students that have not yet decided which major to follow. It is also great for people that do not want to go to a bigger univeristy, either because of cost or distance.

If you're the kind of person who wants alot of on campus activities & clubs this school isn't for you. The clubs are few & very disorganized,

The professors are extremely educated about their particular subjects. Every day I am learning more and more. They provide an encouraging learning system which motivates us as students. They're also always available if a student needs extra help enhancing our knowledge. Each professor I have has taught me so much and on top of that they have taught me how I can use their subject in the real world making it applicable to us.

    Did enjoy being here

The staff and student body are so friendly. People are always willing to offer their help. During the first two weeks of every year there are former students and staff located all around the campus to help freshman and other new students with directions. Some people are even willing to walk you to your class. This attitude is found throughout the whole campus from the library to the bookstore, to the cafeteria etc. I also love the fact that the college is very diverse in its student body. There are all kinds of students here; students fresh from high school, adults finishing their education and students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds including international students. The college strongly focuses on academics but also on extracurricular life. There are a wide variety of clubs and organizations ranging from the jumpstart jump rope club to Phi Theta Kappa.

    Bang for the buck

Community College is a great choice for students who don't have too much money to spend for college! For a full time student tuition is only $1000 per semester. On top of that if you have Bright Futures or other scholarship money you pay even less. I only paid around $600 for tuition this semester! You also save money on room and board which costs around $8000. There are no additional daily expenses for students living at home. You or your parents do not have to pay for an extra toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper, groceries etc.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember to always ask questions. This might seem obvious but many people actually don't follow through here. Students are on their own and they don't feel comfortable in that environment, many are too shy to ask questions. Find out whatever it is you need to know whether it is directions to a class or what clubs are on campus. The more you ask, the more you know, making the transition to college a smoother process. Also, join clubs or other extracurricular activities. With exams, papers, due dates and grades college can get pretty stressful. Joining a club will give you an outlet by relieving stress; academics are important but so is having fun. Being part of some organization also enriches the college experience because it gives you a chance to be part of your college. One of the most important tips I could give you is to be organized. Keep a planner and write down every single thing you need to do in it; assignments, major due dates, group meetings, interviews, internship opportunities etc. Have a different folder or binder for each class and keep your papers in a neat order. When things aren't organized there's a lot more room for confusion and stress.

Great for these types of students

This college is a great option for students who haven't done great in high school. Many students struggle in high school and going to a 4 year college straight after high school can be a challenge. Palm Beach Community College prepares students for the transition to a 4 year college. Step by step the professors help students to understand college material and tackle difficult subjects. There is no competition between students and students are encouraged to proceed at their own pace. Palm Beach Community College isn't only a great option for the traditional student coming from high school but also for adults who have never finished their education. The college offers many night classes so adults can attend college after work. Also, the college's low fees make it affordable for people with families.

I have learned a great deal at this Institute. Most of the professors here are devoted to teaching you in the best way possible. They want you to grasp the concept of whatever subject your are studying and are passionate about teaching.

    Am enjoying being here

I'm very grateful to have gone to PBCC my first 2 years out of high school. I've accomplished the required core classes while saving a lot of money and learning in a not too small environment, but it is definitely a more personal setting in the classroom.

    Bang for the buck

You most definitely get your money's worth at PBCC. Considering how expensive state universities are, PBCC enables you to learn the same material for a considerably cheaper amount. The first 2 years of college are getting the core classes under your belt anyways, so going to PBCC allowed me to save up for when I plan to transfer.

    Tips for prospective students

Prospective students who plan to attend PBCC should know that just because it is a community college doesnt mean it is going to be a piece of cake. The professors here do challenge you and they wont coddle you. They expect you to act as adults, because now you are one.

Great for these types of students

PBCC is great for students who are not financially stable at this point in their lives. This institute offers great scholarships and grants through financial aid, which allows that student to save up as much money as they can.

The professors are knowledgable and concerned about the welfare of the students. Anyone who is serious about learning will succeed here.
