    Am learning a lot

I have been at PV for almost 3 years now and I can firmly say that you cant help but learn something as your here. I am a firm believer that Prairie View Produces Productive People because their are so many great influences on this campus you cant help but to be motivated to achieve great goals. While there are some teachers who could care less about you but thats college for you, NO BABYSITTING IS ALOWWED AT THE UNIVERSITY!!! But, Of course, it is just like any other college and has their flaws but I can say it does produce productive people, and I am one of the many.

    Am enjoying being here

I can say I have had some rough times here but in the end you can prevail over anything. Prairie View is a wonderful school for academics and social events, so GET INVOLVED!!!! The people here are nice and will give you their last if they have it, plus its college so HAVE FUN!!!

    Bang for the buck

I can say some of the difficulties can have been avoided but when they get everything straight you should be good the rest of the time being. Its educational and fun at the same time, its definately worth the money!!!!!!

    Tips for prospective students

I know as you read my comments you might think I am just saying this stuff BUT IM NOT!!!!! Everything I said is REAL and I wouldnt change my school for nothing. Once your a PANTHER your ALWAYS a PANTHER!!!!!!! SO WHO YOU ROOTIN' FOR??? PVU!!!!!!

Prairie View A&M University is a University that will not only push you to achieve academic success, however it provides you with the material you need to become an effective pillar of society, for Prairie View A&M University does Produce Productive People. Attending any college you receive just as much as you put in. Its majority all about attendance and grades. You must attend class, not only to know the information, but to pass the test and make the grades. Education should be number one everyone's priority list. I have been enrolled at Prairie View A & M University, for five months, currently going into my 2nd semester as a Freshman. That being said my first semester was very much so a success. Though the latenight study session, heavy homework load, and learning to balance classes was stressful as first, all my hardwork paid off, resulting in a 4.0 GPA. I admit I learned alot my first semester in college, and I wouldn't change this experience for the world. College is not only about getting a degree it's about founding yourself and networking, building long-term friendships with professors and your peers.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being enrolled at Prairie View A & M University, because it is such a friendly and family oriented campus. My first semester I lived in a dorm, best experience of my life, you really get involved and build friendships with people that aren't as scattered around campus as others. The events are nice, the programs they have are much a success, and the Administration, Faculty, Staff, and study body make attending Prairie View the best decision I have ever made.

    Bang for the buck

Most people think that college puts you in a financial hole, in some situations this is true, however there are so many ways to get what you. Around Prairie View, there are some many people, whether it be Alumni, Administration, Faculty and Staff who are willing to help you, if you are helping yourself. You may get worried, when it seems like your financial aid hasn't came through, but in the end it will all get worked out. They have advisers assigned to you there as always ready to help. Prairie View is definitely worth the time, stress, and money.

    Tips for prospective students

Beside Prairie View's location, there is always some type of activity that enrolled students can get involved in on or around campus. It's location is also another reason that Prairie View A&M University is so family oriented. However, when choosing this University, you're in for a journey, a wonderful journey at that. Once you're a Panther you're always a Panther. PV...YOU KNOW!

    Never stop applying for scholarships!
    Apply for housing early!
    Get involved!

Great for these types of students

Students who want to attend a Historical Black College.
    Future Nursing Majors
    Open-Minded Students
    Future Leaders
    Productive Students
College Prepared students, Prairie View is nothing like High School.

You only learn as much as you want to. I've learned a lot in some classes and very little in others. It's all about their teaching method, some teachers are old and some are young. But honestly it's all up to you how much you learn!

At first it was difficult, but now it's great there are a wide variety of personalities.

LOL, there was a reviewer earlier who said he thought they didn't want to help them; they can be like that but at the same time they’re others that will go out of their way to help you. I've had an advisor chase me down to give me something that would be a great opportunity (like literally).

Prairie View A&M University is a school that will not only push you to achieve academic success, which is very important, but it also nurtures you socially to become a pillar of society, for Prairie View A&M University does Produce Productive People. Although placed in the country, it is still always some type of activity that students can get involved in and if not Houston is only 30 minutes away. The fact that it’s not right in the middle of the city provides for it to have the close knit family atmosphere that Prairie View A&M University is known for. The campus is beautiful, especially compared to other Historically Black College/Universities (HBCU). Prairie View A&M University is ranked one of the BEST in the nation as far as academics, and it’s true!

    Will learn a lot

I have visited this campus several times because I was interested in attending it in the Fall of 2009. This faculty that I have spoken with pretended like they wanted to assist me with enrolling but each time that I have attended I leave not knowing much more than when I visited. I'm very frustrated and feel that they do not want me as a student. You have to jump through hoops to get any info and they really act like they don't care. I am now looking at going to another college because of this.

    Tips for prospective students

You must have patience if you are considering enrolling in this school otherwise you will be very discouraged.

    Am learning a lot

Prairie View does possess some great and influential staff members. While I cannot say that everybody is perfect, I can say that the good out-weighs the bad. There may be a handful of professors that do not care about your progress and you individual learning track, but most of my professors have gone above and beyond. They have made sure that I was learning and excelling in what I set forth to accomplish in and out of class.

    Am enjoying being here

Prairie View is the place to be. There is always something to do like activities, forums, lectures, theater play productions, game nights, athletic games... You name it, we have it! In addition to the academic growth that I have experienced here, I have been introduced to many people and adventurous opportunities. Prairie View is full of spirit and positive energy, even from thousands of alumni that I meet all the time. Panther Pride is contagious and continuous.

    Bang for the buck

This will be my third year at Prairie View. One of the first reasons I chose to attend was because tuition here was not costly. Prairie View does not charge you an arm and a leg and your experience is golden. The knowledge and experience you will have here cannot be put into a simple dollar amount.

    Tips for prospective students

Manage your time wisely... It is easy to get caught up in all there is to offer. Remember that classes are priority then enjoy the college life

Register early for classes, housing, and financial aid. At the last minute you will be stuck in a long line and began to feel overwhelmed.

Do not stay crammed up in your room- Join an organization/club, GET INVOLVED!!!

Great for these types of students

Would like to attend a Historically Black College/University.

Like to learn while simultaneously having the time of their life.

Plans to be productive during attendance and beyond graduation.

    Am learning a lot

Prairie View A&M Produces Productive People, is a motto I live by. I've just completed my freshman year of a college at PVAMU and I must say I've learned a lot. I've learned that the staff and students are there to help you only if YOU want the help. They will not hold your hand a treat you like a baby, just like any other college, once you get to college your considered an adult. I've also learned how to manage my time while being at Prairie View and this is VERY important once you get to college. My freshman year was fun and full of new experiences, my journey is not over yet and there is much more to be taught.

    Am enjoying being here

I enjoy being at Prairie View, because the classes are small and you actually get that One-on-One with the professors. Staying in the University of College (freshmen dorms) was a great experience. Living in the UC your freshmen year gives you the chance to network and build long lasting friendships. Not only that, but the parties and the campus events are fun and I love attending them.

    Bang for the buck

College can be expensive anywhere you decide to attend. I would say the cost to attend Prairie View is worth it, because you get a great education, the housing on campus is nice, and the whole campus looks wonderful.

    Tips for prospective students

Some tips I would give to the Prospective Students when you attend Prairie View is to come with an open mind. Get involved around campus because the people here are nice and friendly. Also be careful of the crowd of people you hang with because that can make you or break you at Prairie View. I also would suggest that if you are a BIG party person DO NOT get 8am classes!!!

    Am learning a lot

Just in the one semester that I have been attending Prairie View A&M I have to say I am learning so much. My classes have been challenging but at the same time interesting. I have never done this well in school before, and I think the environment I am in at school is to blame for it. My classes are small and comfortable; the teachers are always there to help. There is absolutely no reason to fail at Prairie View A&M unless you just do not want to pass.

    Am enjoying being here

I love being at Prairie View I have never felt so at home. It's a very friendly campus. The first time I visited I got lost with my family, but there was no shortage in students willing to hep me find my way. They were so respectful to my parents as well. The weekends can be boring at times, but really that is my only complaint. For it to be in such a small town with not much around, there's always something to do.

    Bang for the buck

I'm attending this school on an academic scholarship. My only cost are the room and board I pay which are relatively cheap. So many people receive financial aid at this school sometimes I feel like I'm the only one actually paying for school and even with that I don't pay much.

    Tips for prospective students

Look for financial aid, there is so much at this school and I'm not exaggerating. You may hear about the long lines in financial aid but it's definitely worth the wait.

Great for these types of students

Great for the type of student that wants to feel like they matter at a school. A student that does not want to get lost in a big crowd. A student that can balance college parties and college classes without putting parties first. Honestly I feel like anyone can find a place at Prairie View. Me and all my friends are so different but this school works for all of us in its own way.

    Am learning a lot

I honestly didn't know there was so much pride in attending an HBCU. I've learned a lot of things that I will never forget.

    Am enjoying being here

I love this campus. There are so many things to do that you can never have anything to do. This campus has Real Talk, poetry nights, and guest speakers that really make you think. If you're not doing homework or working on a project, you'll always have something to do.

    Bang for the buck

One of the main reasons I considered attending Prairie View is how low their tuition is when compared to that of other universities. When I really think about it, the quality of my education is very good considering what I have to pay to receive it.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you research your federal and state aid options to avoid loans. If you go to the financial aid office, go as early as possible or you WILL be there for awhile. Start your semester off well so it won't be so hard to get your final grade up at the end of the semester. And last, even though there are so many things to do on campus, don't become sidetracked from what you are really there for: to get your degree.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for students who like to have fun but get serious when it's time to do so. Prairie View is also great for people who are shy and want to open up; this school has helped me in that perspective.

Prairie View is a very good school no matter your race. Some professors are hard to get along with, but that is expected anywhere. Prairie View has lots of students and professors that do help in anyway they can.

    Tips for prospective students

Remember that as a student you pay thousands of dollars to get your education, so make sure you use all the resources possible e.g. the professors are chop full of information and always willing to help just make sure you are serious about what you are doing.

    Academic Rigor

The classes and professors add a degree of challenge of their own. There will be times that make you scratch your head and times that will make you want to give yourself a pat on the back. You just have to remember to stay focus.

    Dorm Life

The campus is alive. . . there is always something going on around the campus, not much more complex than that.

    Food and Dining

The food could be a lot better. There are not that many places to eat at on or off campus that are within the immediate vicinity. If you are a freshmen you need to have a car plan and simple. If you are a sophomore or higher you can cook your own food in your dorm rooms.

    What to do for fun

There are lots of things to do for fun, but you must learn how to be friends with everyone possible, then it will make it a lot easier to learn about different events that take place on and off campus. Their are parties, game nights, fashion shows, talent shows, sport tournaments, and much more.

Prairie Veiw is a great school to attend. I love how PV is a historically black college, but anybody can attend and be welcomed. PV also can teach you a lot so you can become prepared for the outside world.

    Tips for prospective students

PV is a the type of school who will check on you and how your academics. It's totally different from what people tell you about the school. You can have fun but make sure you stay on top of your work.

    Academic Rigor

The academic rigor at PV is strict because they want to see you do good at there school.

    Dorm Life

This was my 1st year at PV and the dorm life was pretty cool. I lived in the UC-freshman dorms. They had lots of activites to do when we got bored. They also made it feel like we were at home.

    Food and Dining

The MSC was pretty good. I really like catfish Fridays. The MSC was a cool place to meet up with your friends and chat.

    What to do for fun

There was a lot of things to do for fun. During homecoming they had a lot of activities. Then spring fest was fantastic.

    Bang for the buck

PV will be a bang for your buck because the tution isn't a bad as these other school out here in Texas.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

There aren't unusual traditions at PV. We have some real cool traditions that some of the other schools try to mimic.

Great for these types of students

They have things I didnt know you could have for all types of people.

    Clubs and Activities

PV have a lot of clubs and actvities for everybody to join. That's why I like this school because it is very diverse.

    Greek Life

Greek life is so much fun. I love to see all the fraternities and sororities on campus. Delta sigma theta just came back on the yard and a lot of people where happy. The kappas, omega, and aka's are cool to mingle with.

Prairie View A & M University is a great institution to attend; like all schools it depends on the student to gain as much knowledge as possible. Prairie View promotes an effective learning environment with the campus library being open from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. and the architecture building being open 24 hours for architecture majors like myself.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. Don't go to all of the parties.
    2. Surround yourself with other students who challenge themselves to make A's
    3. Get involved on campus; networking is extremely important.
    4. Don't overwhelm yourself while at school...have some fun.
    5. Get to know your professors. (after all they are handling your grades )

    Academic Rigor

Professors at Prairie View A & M University do have pride in their jobs and will grade accordingly; but if you attend class everyday study the material and turn in the assignments your grade should be okay. Show the professor your serious about your education and they'll treat you like a true college student.

    Dorm Life

The dorm rooms are great. No community bathrooms, and individual bedrooms in the upper class men bedroom. So it's up to you how clean or dirty your living quarters are. So it's best to communicate with your roommate(s) to ensure that the dorm room is as clean as possible.

    Food and Dining

I can't lie; the MSC (Memorial Student Center) doesn't serve the best food. The food is edible, but it's not going to blow your mind away. If you dine at the Panther Grill the quality of the food is better, but you'll have to use your Panther Bucks to pay for the food. I would advise you to only attend lunch on Mondays for the fried chicken; and Fridays for Catfish Fridays. For the rest of the days attend breakfast to substitute lunch, and eat dinner everyday because it's kind of hard to operate off of one meal a day...trust me.

    What to do for fun

With Prairie View in a rural area, on weekends some people may go home, but for the students that don't house parties and kickbacks on Fridays and Saturdays. But majority of the time there are programs that do go on, on campus.

    Bang for the buck

Homecoming week is the event of the semester during the fall semester. The tent party on Alumni Field is an event that is hosted on campus at night two days before the big football game. During the spring semester we have Spring Fest which is a week full of festivities. Kind of like homecoming week.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

Nothing unusual...every Wednesday we have Hump day which is sponsored by CAB. Music is played by the Alumni Field and the student body gathers around to interact with one another.

Great for these types of students

None of the Clubs or Activities limit themselves to a certain group of people. Anyone can join and thrive in any club. It's completely up to the individual.

    Clubs and Activities

The clubs and organizations are great on campus. As I stated in the above comment it's up to the students on how active the club is. The clubs on campus are extremely active. Campus Safety

For me it is safe. I'm an architect major and at times I'm in the architecture building at 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning and I've walked back to my dorm room across campus worry free. Just lookout for the skunks because they will spray you. Also during the events they do have security outside the gates of the dorm rooms to make sure that the people that are trying to get into the dorm areas actually live there.
