    Am learning a lot

I am studying in the school of science. My classes are challenging, and I am definitely learning from my professors. There are plenty of resources to get extra help here as well such as free help rooms or study sessions with teaching assistants.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it here. I really enjoy the classes I am taking, and the social life is awesome! There is definitely something for everyone. Whether you are wanting to get involved in Greek life or maybe just a few clubs, it all is available at Purdue. Being able to attend Big Ten sporting events isn't so bad either.

    Bang for the buck

Any college tuition is expensive, but at Purdue you really are getting your money's worth. You are getting a great education and will graduate with a degree from a very respectable and accredited university. Especially in the science field and engineering, several businesses hire Purdue graduates because of the great educational reputation.
Aside from benefits for your future, Purdue has a lot of great ways you can get bang for your buck. If you are living in the dorms, there are plenty of activities and programs offered. The dining hall food is unbelievably amazing and there is so much variety. There are a variety of free admission events put on by clubs throughout the year where students can relax and have fun as well.

    Tips for prospective students

Take a tour. If you are still taking part in the college search, visit the Purdue campus. While on a tour, ask questions! The tour guides want to help you to decide if Purdue is your perfect fit. Ask about programs associated with your intended major, about dorm life, anything! It may be a good idea to have some questions in mind that you would like to have answered. Also, see if you can sit in on a lecture. It is a really great way to get a feel for what your classes would be like.

Don't be scared off by the large number of students. It is a big campus, but after a couple of weeks it will start to feel much smaller. Especially within your focused schools you will get to know people who will be in several of your classes. Also, every class does not have 500 students in it. Some of your classes will be large and others much smaller. I had anywhere from 15-400 students in a class this past semester.

If you are an incoming student, participate in Boiler Gold Rush (BGR). It is an awesome new student orientation program and a great way to meet new people. There are a ton of super fun events throughout the week, not to mention free stuff. It is also a great way to calm any nerves you might have about leaving home, finding your way around, or starting classes.

Get involved in something! There are so many clubs offered here that span the spectrum, and if you somehow find what you are looking for is not offered, you can start that club! This is seriously a great way to meet new people or try something new.

Do not be afraid to get to know your professors! Two words: Office Hours. They want to meet you too! It can be a little intimidating at first, but after you meet with one professor you will find that they are really nice and can give you great advice or help in their course.

Great for these types of students

If you are wanting to pursue a career in engineering, pharmacy, or in a science field, Purdue is a really good option for you. Students who are motivated, determined, and work hard will really find Purdue to be a good fit. You will be surrounded with people just like you. Students who are outgoing and enthusiastic will love the sports scene and school spirit. The Boilermaker community is full of people who are friendly, outgoing and extremely well-rounded.

    Am learning a lot

I am in the nursing program and joined a learning community. This is where around 20 freshman nursing students get put in most of the same classes and are put in the same resident hall. This helps with finding people to study with and is a great way to easily make some new friends. Most of the programs have learning communities and I would recommend getting into one. It is not absolutely necessary for success in college but it might help make things a little bit easier.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is wonderful. There are many restaurants close by and lots of things to do. There are many free concerts and movie nights on campus and this is a good thing to take advantage of. The people here are great. Most of them are hard workers and it is easy to find people that have similar interests.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue is a public university therefore it is one of the less expensive campuses in Indiana. However, there is very little financial aid given unless your family is extremely poor. Purdue does give a lot of student aid when it comes to loans. The student will only get around 5,000 dollars in loans but the parents will be able to get the rest through a parent plus loan. This does help when paying for school because the interest is very low on all of these loans. Work study and grants are very rarely given out unless you are very good at a sport, especially football or basketball. One thing that's good to know though is that with a Purdue degree you will have many amazing job offers and this is essential in this day and age.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you go to all of your classes. Many professors will give extra credit points or actual points for good attendance. Most of your classes will not have a lot of homework and only a few tests so every point you earn is important. There are rarely any easy points in college. Set aside time to study each week, that way you won't panic when the tests come around. For many of the harder classes, it is recommended to begin studying for test AT LEAST a week in advance. Don't procrastinate or you'll be very sorry when the grades come out at the end of the semester. Also, try to get involved around campus. This helps you make friends and will look good on future resumes. Also, having some good friends will help you get through your first year. Go home as little as possible. Several people I know went home to visit their boyfriends almost every weekend during the school year. These people now have few to no friends at school. The best time to bond with your new friends and meet even more new people is during the weekends. If you go home all the time you will have a lot of trouble in the long run with loneliness because of this. Tough it out for a few weeks because I guarantee you'll be grateful you did by the end of the year. College is where you will meet some of the best friends you will ever have.

Great for these types of students

Students that want to learn and enjoy a big campus with lots of diversity. The campus is within the city so students who love having many things to do on the weekends will love this school. Purdue is so active during the night and this makes the campus an amazing place to be.

    Am learning a lot

I started off my college career last year in the college of science, learning quite a lot of new material in all of my courses. Also, each course does not only deliver the information itself, but its connections with real-life situations as well. All of the professors and teaching assistants are very knowledgeable in their specific fields, which definitely aids in the learning process.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere here is wonderful! There is always something going on: performances, club activities, sporting events, and they all allow you to meet new people who have interests that are similar to your own. Also, this school has an enormous amount of diversity in its students, which I believe is an essential part of any university.

Aside from events, the university itself is quite amazing. The residence halls are all great, and they even offer programs and activities for the students who live there. Furthermore, there are the dining courts, which not only offer amazing food, but also an amazing variety for ANY diet.

Then there are the sites around campus. The student union is an amazing place to meet for lunch/dinner and socialize, and the fountains around campus are great places for sitting outside. There are also all of the academic buildings which are exceptionally fun just to be in!

    Bang for the buck

Sure, college can be expensive, and Purdue is not an exception to the rule, but as far as it goes for Indiana students, Purdue is probably the best choice. Not only does your cost of admittance include your tuition and room/board, but it also includes estimated travel expenses, book costs, and other miscellaneous expenses that may occur throughout the semester, which, to me, seems to be an extremely efficient system. Also, when you apply for housing, you also apply for a meal plan, which not only allows you to eat at any of the university dining halls, but also gives you extra dining dollars which can be used at the university grills, the union, and the mini-marts on campus! In short, if you are looking for an Indiana school that fits your budget, Purdue is the choice for you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't be afraid to get to know people, whether it be your roommate, your professors, or just other students on campus. Getting to know people is part of the college experience, and at Purdue, it is DEFINITELY not hard to to; there are people everywhere! Also, your roommate is probably one of the most important people you meet at school, so don't neglect to get to know each other a bit. And finally, there are your professors; they have office hours for a reason! They want to get to know their students, and if you are having any problems, they are more than happy to explain the material to you until you understand.

Aside from meeting people, it is also important to complete any/all coursework (even if it is deemed optional). The work is designed not only to test your knowledge of the material, but also to prepare you for the exams that come later in the semester. And even though you may feel pressed for time with so many assignments, if you manage your time carefully, you can get everything done with time to spare!

Finally, don't get stressed out over exam week(s). They are just tests, like any other test you've ever taken, but with new material. If you get stressed over the exam, chances are, you won't be focused when you are studying. Do what I do, start studying 2-3 weeks before the exam to cover the older material before your professor starts covering new material in lectures. If you do this, you should have no problem studying ALL of the material with time left over to go back over sections that you may have had issues with, allowing you to do your very best on each exam!

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for ANY student, but specifically, students looking to major in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or pharmacy are probably the best candidates for the college. Every major option at Purdue is sure to be rewarding to the student taking the courses. However, out-of-state students not majoring in any of the areas mentioned above should probably consider other colleges, as out-of-state tuition is a bit pricey. But Purdue has something to offer for everyone, no matter where they come from, what their major is, or what their interests are. It is a well-rounded university, full of students who are proud to study there.

    Am learning a lot

I am in the College of Science, and the classes are challenging, but not so difficult as to be unmanageable. The course studies for all majors are rigorous and test your abilities at time management and focus. The pace is much quicker than in high school, but not so quick as to leave you racing to keep up.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue offers a wide variety of clubs and societies for students to participate in. There are also frequent events on campus that are both promotional to a certain company or aimed at recruitment for different clubs, etc. Also, the campus is located in the city, so there are always things to do and places to go off campus. A lot of the surrounding community is diverse and interesting, with many stores well within walking distance or along the bus route. You will never be left without something to do. Also, there are so many study groups and areas for students to come together and help each other with homework, studying for exams, and just have fun while getting work done.

    Bang for the buck

If you are an Indiana resident, then Purdue is the perfect place for you to attend. The tuition is much cheaper than many private colleges who offer the same programs of study. If you aren't an Indiana resident, Purdue is still a nationally recognized college for excellence. With scholarships and grants, the out of state tuition can be very affordable as well. The programs of study here are well worth the cost of attendance.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't take too many credit hours your first semester. It will be easier to get yourself acclimated to the new environment and find activities and clubs to become a part of if you aren't bogged down with hours of studying and homework. I would suggest taking 15-16 credit hours your first semester, and then bumping it up to 17-18 credit hours your second semester. Also, you shouldn't skip class. A lot of professors do put their notes online, but the notes can never make up for actually being there in person. Many professors have in-class quizzes or take attendance, so skipping class can hurt your grade. Attendance points are the easiest way to help yourself get good grades. Being in lecture also helps when it comes to test time. A lot of professors will go over previous exams and take questions during lecture to help you get ready. Also, just having been to lecture helps with studying and cuts down on the time you have to spend preparing outside of class. One final suggestion: bring a good umbrella and good rain shoes. West Lafayette has a pretty wet spring, and there's nothing worse than sitting in lecture for 50 minutes with wet socks on.

Great for these types of students

Hard-working, self-motivated, socially diverse, and open-minded students are the perfect match for Purdue. Students who are looking for a college where they can mix fun and education would find a home at Purdue.

The classes at Purdue are filled with a ton of information. You will learn a lot, but that does come at a cost. You will have to work for your grades, but in the end it really pays off.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is absolutely beautiful! It is kept in credibly clean. The weather is moderate, although the summers can get a bit hot.

You will never be bored. When there is down time from course work, Purdue has over 800 clubs and organizations, so everyone will be able to find something that fits their fancy.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue increased its tuition 5% this year, and for us out of state students that is a lot.. But the cost is worth the education, and the prestige of receiving a diploma with the title Purdue University on it.

    Tips for prospective students

-Make a daily schedule. Find times between classes, and instead of laying around, use that time for homework and study so that you can have free time at night.
-Get involved in organizations. They are incredibly fun, and allow you to meet new and interesting people both from, and outside of your major.

Great for these types of students

Those who know what they want, and are not afraid to put forth a little work to get it.

    Am learning a lot

In high school, I was lucky enough that I didn't have to study for many of my classes. After the first couple of weeks at Purdue, however, I realized that I had to study a lot if I expected to pass my courses. It sounds a bit odd, but it has been rough learning how to study. Not only have I gained knowledge about my classes, but I have also learned many traits that will help me outside of school.

    Am enjoying being here

The atmosphere is amazing! I choose Purdue based on its academic purposes, but also because it is a member of the Big Ten. I am a huge sports fanatic when it comes to Purdue sports, and there are many students that share this with me. I am a member of the VIP club at Purdue which means that I get into all of the home games for any sport. So far, I have gone to every football game, almost all the volleyball games (including a trip down to IU), a lot of the Boys' Basketball games (front row at one game!!!), and a couple of the Woman's Basketball games. The school spirit is really high here, and it is a blast to be included in the Purdue family.
Other than sports, Purdue offers so much. There are clubs for anything and everything. And if by some chance Purdue does not offer something that you are interested in, feel free to make a club for it!

    Bang for the buck

I am studying Engineering, and Purdue has definitely earned my respect for this course. It is a tough major to study, but because Purdue is known for its Engineers, it is a great place to study it. The food is also great. There are five different dining halls to choose from and each specializes in something different, such as Earhart is more oriental food, and Windsor is geared towards vegetarians. I am a vegetarian, and while I prefer Windsor, there is something for my at each dining court.

    Tips for prospective students

You will hear a lot of this information again and again, but listen to it.
    >GET INVOLVED. There are so many different clubs and activities for you to join. Do it. Not only will you meet other students that share similar interests, but you will have fun!
    >BE SOCIAL. When I say this, I do not mean go out and party every night. What I mean is, do not be anti-social. For example, when you are in your room, leave the door open. This allows others on your floor to come in and talk. You can meet some great people this way.
    >STUDY. If you are in tough classes, be ready for a lot of late night studying. One tip, do not sit in your room. Go to a quiet room, a library, somewhere where you won't be distracted.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is a great choice for:
    >Students who enjoy sports.
    >Aspiring Engineers.
    >Students who want to meet new people from around the world.
    >Check it out. You will not be disappointed.

The variety of classes is incredible and the professors enjoy what they're teaching... which makes it easier on us students to learn the material!

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue has a club for basically every interest, and if you still can't find the right one for you, they allow you to start your own! The students are all really friendly and I feel comfortable around everybody. You're always able to find something to do and the traditions and atmosphere of the campus make it so enjoyable!

    Bang for the buck

Purdue University is a great school and graduates some of the best students! The programs offered to prepare you for whatever you choose to do with your life are top notch. You get out what you put in but Purdue makes the 'putting in' part easy!!

    Tips for prospective students

The key is just knowing how to balance fun and academics. Finding ways to have fun at Purdue and making friends is easy! But if you skip class a lot and lose sight of the reason you're in college, it's just as easy to let your grades slip.
It can also go the other way. It's important to have a nice, full schedule but don't overdo it! Give yourself time to go out and run through the fountains or chant in the student section of the football games!

Great for these types of students

    Engineers, for sure!
Students looking for a big University but still wanting to be able to feel like a part of a community.

Every class is different from each other, even if your roommate takes the same one at a different time. Each professor has a different way to teach and going from class to class, this makes it interesting. I am learning a lot by meeting new people as well!

    Am enjoying being here

I'll admit it, I had a very hard time first semester with adjusting to everything. I am very glad I stuck it out though and am back for my second year. It has been worth it so far and I cannot wait for the future.

    Bang for the buck

I will be the first to tell you that Purdue is very expensive. At the same time, I am enrolled in the top Hospitality and Tourism Management program in the country so I know that this will all be worth it in the future.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not go to college thinking that everything will be the same as it is back home. I hate to say it, but everything changes; friends, relationships, school work. Have an equal balance of friends and school and you will do great at Purdue.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for anyone who wants to have the big school feel in a small town. Students have the ability to get lost in the crowd or to stand out on there own. I believe that this is a great feature to Purdue University because even though it is a university of over 40,000 students, it doesn't have to feel that way.

At Purdue University you get a great education. Many prospective students are concerned with the class size of Purdue University and don't think that they will be able to excel in a large class size. Although some of your freshman year classes may be in a large lecture room, I have never had any difficulties scheduling office hours with my professors. Many students do not take advantage of the opportunity. Once you get more involved with your major, you will be in a smaller class size and you get to know your professors and they will help you find many opportunities related to internships and possible jobs.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue University may seem like a large campus, but it is a small community. There is great energy around campus all the time, and the students are very nice and welcoming to one another.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue is a little pricey, but you get a quality education and college experience for your money. Not to mention Purdue is ranked No. 4 in job placement and we have many job fairs and opportunities to meet with large companies. We have the Career Center is good at critiquing your resume and good at setting up mock interviews to make sure that you are ready to meet with potential employers. Purdue really wants students to be successful and to think beyond the college experience and prepare them for the work world.

    Tips for prospective students

I think that you should visit during a time when class is in session. Preferably in the spring and early fall. Not only is the campus beautiful, the students are full of energy and excitement. I would also try to shadow a student in a major that you are thinking about. If you do decide to go to Purdue University, PLEASE attend Boiler Gold Rush Orientation program! It is one of the best experiences that you will have at Purdue University! You will be able to get acquainted with the Purdue campus before any of the other students arrive. You will participate in many fun activities through out the day and meet many new people!

I am a current student within the College of Chemical Engineering and have had my experience with the first years of Purdue. Academically, Purdue is a great school that provides some of the best professors in the fields that explain difficult subjects and can easily relate the material. Some advice would be to listen and comprehend the material to the best of your ability. Those that are planning on becoming an engineer at Purdue have their work cut out for them, and Purdue isn't a place for laziness. However, it is a school that wants to see you succeed and will help you by challenging you and preparing you. Do the best to your ability and eventually you will see yourself succeed. Get help if necessary and plan your time and energy accordingly. Take advantage of what Purdue offers from the recitation classes to the learning communities. By doing this no only will you learn and understand the material, but you become a part of the social atmosphere at Purdue. The classes at Purdue provide a lot of material and sometimes it can seem overwhelming, but always try your best. The first year is always the general education classes which to some can seem a review or a struggle. Only once you get into your Sophomore year will you begin to get into your field of Engineering. Choose what you like to do and eventually you will see you succeed at it.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue is a large campus and home to some of the brilliant minds of today. Being that it is large, you are sure to find a comfortable social environment both on and off campus. I encourage prospective and current students to get involved at Purdue in activities and groups there. If you can live on the campus for at least one semester so as to take in the college atmosphere and interact with fellow classmates. There are many restaurants and dining halls for food and there is always something going on. Whether it be a sport or a student organization, you can be sure that Purdue students focus on both academics and social interaction. The football games are an activity that all can enjoy(myself included). While it is wise to keep up with the books, it is also smart to have fun and take advantage of the Purdue experience.

    Bang for the buck

As far as the standard of education goes, it is above average. Which you can imagine comes with a pretty price tag. However, Purdue provides many opportunity for financial help. If you come from out of state, it can seem a little expensive and even during this time of economic turmoil, can seem a little to much. But, the reason for this is the quality and recognition as a Purdue student has on an employer. Purdue provides one of the best engineering programs not only in the nation but the world. An education might seem expensive, but the knowledge and college experience is priceless. Purdue offers many technological benefits and provides amazing professors and teaching assistants.

    Tips for prospective students

Get involved with social activities and do your best when it comes to academics. If you can, try living on campus for at least one semester and take advantage of the learning communities and teaching help. Go to class and try to understand the material to the best of your ability. Remember also that you are paying for these classes so if you are lazy or aren't ready, I suggest doing a community college first. This way you can prepare and even do general education classes.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for any student; from the goal driven student to the socially active student, Purdue allows opportunity to all. Remember to try your hardest and even if you need help, Purdue students and staff can assist. Hopefully you too can become a boilermaker!

I am going to be a sophomore in Civil Engineering. It starts out slow but picks up the pace as you get through freshman year. I only really learned a lot in chemistry and calculus, and I learned how to use AutoCAD in CGT. The rest of the classes freshman year I didn't learn too much. This year I'll be taking PHYS 241 aka electricty and optics, geomatics--I think that's like surveying, and statics. So I should learn a lot in those classes.

    Am enjoying being here

I love it there. I move back in in 12 days and I can't wait. There is plenty to do. I personally am involved with athletics. There is also a big Greek life and many other clubs and other opportunities.

    Bang for the buck

I feel like that fits under I'm learning a lot. Its expensive out-of-state but well worth it. In terms of everything more than just the education, the food is good and the dorms are ok. The no AC in a lot of them can get to be annoying for the first 3 weeks but other than that its fine. They're expanding/remodeling the rec center, as well as building many other new things. Also, there are a lot of internship opportunities there either in Coops or various majors. For the money, you can get a great education, have a lot of other opportunities, and have a great time while youre there.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get your work done for class. Also you will have to study for tests, and even just as you learn new material. But if you keep up with your work and studies lectures aren't always that important to go to. Just make sure to keep your priorities straight. School first, fun later.

Great for these types of students

STEM--science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Krannert school of Management is good too. I wouldnt reccommend liberal arts from out-of-state. (More of a bang for your buck thing). Other than the majors, Purdue is basically a good fit for everyone.

Purdue University offers so much more than I ever dreamed. I am interested in Animal Sciences and there are so many opportunities to learn from the best inside and out of the classroom with clubs and other activites. From what my college friends tell me, the other schools are just the same. Purdue is a very well-rounded university.

    Am enjoying being here

I have met so many people at Purdue! They emphasizes diversity, so I have made friends from literally all over the world, such as India, China and Britain. I really enjoy the clubs too. There is certainly something for everyone. There is never a dull moment for me at Purdue!

    Bang for the buck

Purdue offers the best of the best. Certainly worth your money if you plan to enter and be successful in almost any career. The university itself as well as the individual schools offer good financial aid for those eligible also.

    Tips for prospective students

Have fun! But not too much. Remember why you are at school. Also, make sure to balance all that studying with some extracurriculars. It is a great way to meet people and spend time outside of school. So let loose a little. Try something new. Join the intramural teams, or the juggling club or even spit crickets at Spring Fest (well, maybe not, but they do have that!).

Great for these types of students

Purdue is a great school for nearly anyone serious about their education. It is a big enough school to offer a ton of majors and extracurriculars, but still has the community feel. There is a place for everyone at Purdue!

    Did learn a lot

Purdue offers students a very educated and intelligent work environment. Being a school notorious for engineering, more than half the student body is part of the engineering college. Being a first year here is great because most everyone will share their classes with you therefore you have a lot of students to study with. The professors usually don't teach on a one to one basis, but this is expected of a large university. Though the TA's in the Physics and Math department have a large international population, all of them are willing to help how they can. It would be very difficult for you if you don't utilize them some how.

    Did enjoy being here

Purdue has a great social environment if you want to get away from the city. This is not to say that it is quiet and conservative, rather you can escape from noise if you want to, but you can have your fun any day of the week as well. I personally was pledging a fraternity and enjoyed my time there meeting people of different backgrounds. I also attended several different religious groups so that I could keep in touch with my faith. Through this I was able to spend my time doing different activities throughout the weekends. Though the town isn't necessarily exciting at first glance, if you know where to look you definitely can enjoy your time.

    Bang for the buck

Being an out of state student, it's a little hard to justify the price. However, remember you are getting a world class education. Purdue is famous around the world (I have family in Hong Kong who definitely knew the name, also the international student population is booming). If you attend as something other than Engineering or Business, it may be difficult for you to find a reason to go. Purdue is most definitely a school for technical majors and not so much education or English. However for those In State, it is a very cheap school in regards of tuition and as long as you know how to make your education worth it, Purdue will repay you well.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure to get a good tour of Lafayette, though the campus is probably the most maintained part of the area, the neighboring town is great to get away from the school environment for a while.

Great for these types of students

This school is great for those seeking a technical major (computer science, engineering, business and other technology majors). Also great for in state students who want a good name with their equally good education.

I have been challenged academically in every class I have taken. Purdue has a fantastic science program and although I am not majoring in engineering I also know that their program will challenge many students.

Purdue University is a fun place to be. You can always find a friend who enjoys doing the same things as you. Everybody fits in, and there are many things to do on and off campus.

    Tips for prospective students

Purdue is an expensive school to attend, but it is worth every penny. You are getting a great education and I for one am having an amazing time being a Boilermaker.

Great for these types of students

Purdue University is a great place for students who want to be challenged academically, who enjoy meeting lots of new people, and want to attend a Big 10 school.

I am a student who is currently enrolled in the Nuclear Engineering program here at Purdue. Make no mistake if you choose engineering this school then you are going to work hard for your degree. One downside to the engineering program is that since there are so many engineers the class sizes are very large. This can be a less than ideal learning environment for some people. However, there are always professor's office hours, teaching assistants for courses and help centers to use in order to really learn the material.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus is beautiful. It's one solid reason why I chose this school. The red brick that all the buildings are built with really makes the campus look uniform and gives it a great academic feel. I also like the people. The first year I was in a learning community and this helped with my studies and my social life a lot. Many of the people that were in the community are my closest friends today. Purdue also has a good balance between Greek life and non Greek life. There are also so many clubs that you can be a part of almost whatever you want here!

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state tuition payer and that hurts the pocket a bit, however it would have been like that had I gone anywhere out of state. Don't let the cost deter you if you are a prospective engineer or science student though. Purdue has excellent professors and teaching assistants who for the most part are always willing to lend the extra time to help you learn.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are planning on going into engineering I would recommend to try and take at least two physics courses in high school. I took AP physics and I was way more prepared for the freshman physics class than most of my peers who had only taken one class. I would also say just get ready to work. Purdue hits you hard with homework and projects right at the start of school, they don't mess around. This last point may sound silly but always do your homework for your classes. This may seem like common sense to most people, but I have several friends who couldn't make the grades in classes because they didn't get the extra practice from doing their homework.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for really any kind of student, but I would say that if you are planning on pursuing and engineering degree from Purdue than you have to be the person who is driven and willing to work. This means that sometimes you will have to miss the big party or not hang out with your friends because you have to work on a project or study for an exam. In the end it will be worth it though, I have talked to several older engineers and degrees from Purdue are always very highly regarded in the workforce.

Purdue has classes that are made to fit your level of experience with certain classes when you come in. So if you know that you need to spend another semester on material that you took in High School you can, but the teachers that you have make sure that they are clear in what they are teaching.

If you are one of those students who need extra help, there are tons of resources all over campus including Teaching Assistants, Help Rooms, Office Hours, and much more.

West Lafayette is a small town with not too much to do outside of education besides eating, and relaxing. To be at a prestigious school such as Purdue, you need to be someone who is about their business and is dedicated to their work. If this is your mindset and continues to be your mindset through the years, you will love it here. There are plenty of places for you to spend hours studying, relaxing, or just thinking to that you can better yourself as a student. You have to come with the right purpose and drive to be successful and consisently proud of yourself.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue is expensive, any way you look at it, but if you have the credentials to get into it, then you have the crendentials that would make you qualify for scholarships to help you pay for it. You just need to apply for it. Its definately worth it thought because for one, Purdue is accreditated which is very important, and it is also internationally known. With the way that business is changing these days, jobs are found all over the world, and its good for the institution that you graduated from to be so well known so that people know how much your are worth.

    Tips for prospective students

If you are thinking about coming to Purdue, make sure that you are ready to work hard. You will be challenged to the most of your ability here. There are some classes designed to test your strength in your self and your brain power and it is important that you take these tasks on head first and apply everything you have learned.

Great for these types of students

Purdue's name on any degree looks amazing to any employer, but if you are studying Management, Engineering, or Pharmaceuticals, you are getting an astounding background for the future. Right now the Management School is ranked 17 on the list of the best business schools in the U.S. and this is the same home of engineering that put people on the moon. The studies are genuine and the sense of completion is worth it all.

If you already have your major figured out, you're still going to be forced to take a couple of unimportant classes that aren't very much related to your intended major, but once you're through that it they become much more related to your specific major.

    Am enjoying being here

I had the time of my life at Purdue, and have been waiting all summer to go back.

    Bang for the buck

It's not that much more expensive than comparable schools, but it's still very pricey.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure your classes aren't too far apart, back-to-back classes allow you 10 minutes passing time.
Always leave early for classes which require you to use the bus, as they can be unpredictable or even get full at certain stops.
Make sure to choose a meal plan where you'll be using all of your swipes on a weekly basis, every swipe unused is wasted money.

Great for these types of students

The engineering department is huge here, if that's your major then you're coming to the right place.

    In three sentences

purdue is a school of opportunity. the university itself is very large, but the individual colleges and departments work hard to make you feel like you are part of a family. purdue definitely deserves more than just a passing glance.

    Tips for prospective students

go on a campus tour. if it is possible, look into taking an individual tour with someone from the college you are looking into, such as the college of agriculture or science. if you are there during the school year, see if you can sit in on a class. it will help give you a feel for what you will be doing if you decide to go to purdue.

    Academic Rigor

purdue's classes vary on many different levels. most freshmen of any major are typically required to take some large lecture classes, such as biology or chemistry. even though these are intro level classes, they tend to be more difficult and are often referred to as the weed out classes. the higher level classes tend to be smaller, so students receive more individual attention from the professors and typically do better. ultimately, it is up to the individual student to seek out the help they need to do well.

    Dorm Life

the dorms are pretty great, especially if you happen to live in one with air conditioning. the staff are all very friendly and willing to help you if you need it. the ra's plan floor-wide and hall-wide events throughout the year, so you will have plenty of opportunities to meet your fellow residents.

    Food and Dining

the food at purdue is much better than the food you find in your high school cafeterias. there are a number of dining courts that serve different things every day, so you have plenty of options. each dining court is known for a specific specialty. there are also a couple of small cafes around campus that accept cash and dining dollars.

    What to do for fun

there are lots of activities on and off of campus. there are over 900 student clubs and organizations to get involved in. by getting involved in these organizations, you will always have something to do. if that isn't your thing, you can always go to the union and bowl or shoot some pool. also, there are lots of restaurants and shops on chauncey hill and the levee. you can go to the movie theater, or in the winter, you can ice skate. there are also plenty of intramural sports to play throughout the year.

    Bang for the buck

as with any college, purdue can seem kind of expensive, especially if you are an out-of-state student. make sure to check of the division of financial aid and fill out that fafsa and scholarship applications!

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

everyone has to go on a fountain run at least once while they are attending purdue. usually, after a winning home game, the student section will sprint across campus and run through the two fountains in celebration. it is especially great on hot days in august and september! also, you have to make a stop at the discount den and buy a den pop (yes, we call it pop, not soda). a den pop allows you to mix different drinks together, all for a cheap price.

    Clubs and Activities

there are over 900 clubs available. if there isn't a club that fits your interests, you can create your own!

    Campus Safety

purdue has its own fire and police stations. they are both located at the residential end of campus and have a fast response time to anywhere on campus. purdue also has a student escort program. if a student feels unsafe while walking on campus at any time, they can either call the escort service and someone will come to them to walk them to their desired destination, or they can press the blue button on one of the emergency boxes throughout campus, and the police will come to escort them.

I am in the engineering honors program, and I am learning a lot of things such as computer programming, physics and calculus.

    Am enjoying being here

There are so many clubs and organizations that it is easy to find your niche and a group of friends.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue is an amazing school, but I would definitely try to get a scholarship if you're out of state like me. Even though it's worth the money, it is still difficult to afford.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely do Boiler Gold Rush (the optional orientation program a week before classes). Even now, most of my best friends are people I met at BGR. Also do a Learning Community (group of kids in similar majors who live on the same floor). It's great for when you need homework help and for meeting others in your major who have common interests.

Great for these types of students

Purdue University is great for students who are motivated. They want to succeed, and they put in the effort to get it. Other than that, there isn't really a stereotypical Purdue student.

I have only been here for half of one semester but I have definitely learned a lot. Depending on how good of a high school you attended you might find some of your classes first semester to be really easy, however it will get more difficult and you shouldn't just brush it off as nothing if you have learned something before.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue is a great school with a great environment, academically and socially. I am very far from home but I haven't really felt very home sick because the people here are mostly very nice and cool. Also, there are always activities to do around campus and the sports atmosphere makes the weekends even more fun.

    Bang for the buck

For out of state students Purdue is pretty expensive, however, depending on your major and how seriously you take it you can definitely make your experience worth it. I know that I make my academics and social life here worth the expenses that we pay. For in state students it is not as expensive but it is a great school so they definitely get more than what they are paying for. The professors are all very into their job and there are many award winning professors at our school.

    Tips for prospective students

Purdue is an excellent school. If you come here I would definitely recommend going to BGR the week before classes start. Also, don't let your work stress you out, if you have a lot of work or feel stressed out talk to your professors, most professors will help you out. After the first week or two you will have a general idea of what your professors are like and you will know which ones will be more likely to help you out than others.

Purdue is very diverse! I love learning in my classes from professors and TA's (teaching assistants) of different ethnicity and backgrounds!

    Am enjoying being here

I really enjoy being out on my own although it did take me a little while to make friends since only one of my friends went to Purdue. But the BGR (Boiler Gold Rush) is a perfect opportunity to automatically make at least 4 friends :)

    Bang for the buck

Purdue is quite expensive but that is expected from a top big 10 school. I'm only a freshman so I'm not quite sure if I am getting my money's worth yet.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class! You don't have anyone making you go to class and the teachers will get paid whether you go or not. You are paying for the classes so don't throw that money away by not going. Plus, you could have a quiz any day in most classes so attendance is critical.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for those students who are social and would like to live in a diverse community. If you like to eat different and ethnic foods, Purdue definitely has the best food courts. (of course they also have american foods too) And they are buffets! YUM!!

First things first, yes, Purdue is hard. However, it is all worth it when you realized how much you have learned and grown in just a semester. After completing two years at Purdue, I am worlds beyond where I expected to be and it's thrilling when you realize how smart you really are.

    Am enjoying being here

I am an out of state student from Colorado, I grew up with mountains and a big city right in my backyard. Indiana was the last place I expected to have a good time, but it quickly proved me wrong. There are huge amounts of school spirit and everyone generally loves Purdue. West Lafayette is a fun town to be in and even though you may be in a fairly rural area, there are plenty of things to do.

    Bang for the buck

Tuition is going to be expensive everywhere, but you can't put a price on your experiences. Opportunities seem to be endless at Purdue, from research or academics to social activities around campus. A degree from Purdue isn't like one from any other school, people will recognize you for your intelligence and work ethic that comes with the degree.

    Tips for prospective students

Stay on your game through high school, make sure you take as much math and science as possible, especially if you plan on getting into engineering or sciences. Stay a well rounded student as well, find extra curricular activities you enjoy and then you can continue to be a part of them during your time at Purdue.

Great for these types of students

A hardworking student is a definite must, especially those interested in engineering or the sciences. If you want to go to a school where you can have an excellent academic career but still have a ton of fun at a large, Big Ten school, Purdue is a great campus!

The curriculum offered for every major here is truly comprehensive and you never leave classes feeling unchallenged or short-changed in any way. Teachers very often encourage you to research class topics outside of class in addition to the thorough coverage presented in class.

    Am enjoying being here

I have truly enjoyed living on such a diverse campus with incredibly friendly and welcoming students. You can truly find your fit here with the variety of courses offered and clubs organized and it is refreshing to discover who become your best friends and where your specific niche is on campus. Purdue's tuition seems high, especially for out-of-state and international students, though when you think of all the opportunities and facilities present, you know you are getting your money's worth.

    Tips for prospective students

-Get to know the in-and-outs of the campus (dining, transportation, etc.) before you come to Purdue and during your first month, since this will greatly alleviate the burden of a huge transition and give you a foot up over the competition

    - Always study at least 2 hours a night for each class and read ahead whenever possible: Being up to date in classes is often not enough

-Take every opportunity presented to you which interests you: You will be surprised where you thrive and it will only aid you to excel in your academic, professional and personal lives

-Enjoy the campus environment: Purdue University is a prestigious university with a culture of its own, so enjoy the vibe and take a look around!

There are so many opportunities at Purdue. There are tons of clubs to join and people to meet. The housing options are endless and all seem to be very nice. There are so many extra things that Purdue does for their students for help all through the year like the taste of the union and BGR for freshmen. Purdue is fully prepared to accommodate all walks of life and will help you find your place once you are there.

Purdue offers a wide range of classes and majors to choose from so that you can find the academic track that best fits you. They also offer lots of free tutoring and help along the way. Plus, there are lots of extra stuff that is offered like traditions and sports. It is definitely worth every penny.

    Tips for prospective students

Do not schedule classes before 8:30 am ever and meet as many people as possible. There are 20,000 different students at Purdue, surely there is someone that you can connect with and friends make the experience that much better!

This is a great university, if you are looking for a challenge. Purdue will make sure you stay on track for your degree and will also provide classes that push your thinking. They also have many clubs and internships to help their students become more involved in their majors. Campus has a great family atmosphere, so do not be afraid to talk to your professors if you need help.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue is very diverse, so there are many activities for all interests. As I said before even though Purdue is a huge University there is a strong sense of community. This is why I enjoy being here so much. You will meet so many new people and will be able to learn from their life experiences. The weekends are the best time to be on campus. Whether that entails watching a football game or cheering on the Boilermakers in Mackey Arena. The energy of the student section is amazing, you don't want to miss out.

    Bang for the buck

Purdue, being a public school I feel the price for tuition and board is pretty decent. Especially when you are getting a great education at the university. Though there are other ways that the university makes money. Watch where you park your vehicles, because you will get a ticket if you're not careful. Books can also be very expensive, so save where you can.

    Tips for prospective students

This is a huge school, in the midst of it do not forget who you are. Find friends you know you can trust, who will be there for you. The more connections you make with others, the more opportunities you will find within your major. Do not be afraid to try new clubs or new roles in different organizations, it will help you become more marketable. Study hard, never be afraid to ask a question, and you will be fine at Purdue. I also highly recommend Boiler Gold Rush for incoming freshman, it helps you learn the campus and helps make that first day of class less nerve racking.

Great for these types of students

This university is probably for more outgoing students, who are ready for a bit of adventure/challenge. Yet even those who aren't as outgoing, still do very well at Purdue. Purdue has a very diverse student population and therefore there is not one type of person here. You will find yourself learning from the diversity, that the world has to offer. It is a very big campus so it does take some time getting use to. Purdue has a great name, so if you want to go far in your career this university will help you get on your way.

I feel like I have learned more in the past year at Purdue than I learned during all four years of high school. It really has been a great academic experience. Initially, I was worried that the transition to college would be extremely difficult. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to handle the high academic standard. Much to my surprise, the transition was simple and relatively easy. Not to say that it wasn't academically challenging, but rather to emphasize the vast number of resources available to the students there. You can receive as much or as little help/tutoring as you want; not only from professors or TAs, but from various clubs and academic honor societies. Having students fail doesn't look good on any university so Purdue pours a lot of funds and resources into making sure its students excel.

    Am enjoying being here

I love Purdue. It has so much to offer. I'd say one of the biggest downsides to attending Purdue is the sheer amount of opportunities available; there are just so many it's hard to choose! I know that doesn't really sound like a downside but it really can be overwhelming. You can join intramural sports teams and participate in all kinds of tournaments. You can join the Solar Racing Club and help construct a solar powered vehicle entered into a National Competition. (Which Purdue has won every year it has entered.) You can even work with graduate students on research projects in one of the state-of-the-art facilities... as a FRESHMEN! The list goes on and on. From the wide range of opportunities, to the amazing people you'll meet, Purdue really is a great place to be.

    Bang for the buck

Saying Purdue is an expensive university is an understatement. Unless you're paying in-state tuition, be prepared to pour thousands and thousands of dollars into your education. With that being said, MAKE SURE YOU MAKE THE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE WHEN APPLYING. You can still be admitted and make the regular deadline with your application but you must submit your application before an EARLIER deadline to be eligible for scholarships. To make matters worse, this is the ONLY time Purdue will assess you for scholarships so your financial aid for the next four years (or more) will be based on your college application. Trust me, they won't give you more money later on no matter how well you are doing. 4.0 or not, it all comes down to what you put on your application based on your high school credentials. Being an out-of-state student, I feel Purdue is a little too expensive. To be fair though, I have obviously deemed the high prices to be worth it and am doing everything possible to continue my education there. Also, at least in the engineering field, a degree from Purdue goes a long way. The name alone will do wonders for job placement.

    Tips for prospective students

-Plan out your financial plan ahead of time. Make the scholarship deadline!
-Get involved. There are hundreds of clubs and organizations to join and even more unofficial projects to occupy your time.
-Participate in Boiler Gold Rush. This is the freshmen orientation program at Purdue. Not only is it a ton of fun, it's one of the top rated first-year orientation programs in the nation. You won't regret it.

Great for these types of students

-People who like people. There are 40,000 students at Purdue so be prepared to meet all kinds of great and interesting people.
-People interested in the sciences. After all, Purdue is an engineering school. Of course, Liberal Arts degrees are offered too but keep in mind the majority of the people you will be interacting with will be of the science type.
-People who like sports. The massive co-rec center offers pletny of room to play any sport you could ever want. But even if you don't play a lot of sports, there are some pretty amazing games to go watch and the fan section is a real blast. (I recommend the basketball games the most. I can't get enough of them!)
-People who are motivated. Purdue sets a high standard for academics and will be sure to be a challenge. However, one of the best things about Purdue is that everyone there is so down to earth. Nobody is too good for anybody else. Be prepared to work alongside award-winning professors who truly are leaders of innovation in their respective fields.

    Am learning a lot

In high school I learned a lot, however it wasn't necessarily information applicable to everyday life. At Purdue University, the professors raise questions about our world today and apply it to the information we are learning. For once I feel as though I am actually being highly productive with my education, which makes classes more exciting!

    Am enjoying being here

Choosing a college was a hard decision for me to make, however now that I have completed my first year at Purdue I can not picture myself at any other school! All of the students and professors at Purdue are very friendly and will always offer a helping hand if needed. There is basically a club for every single interest, which makes it very easy to get involved and meet other people.

    Bang for the buck

Being out of state, Purdue is expensive. However I personally have applied to scholarships to hopefully get a helping hand.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit Purdue and talk to current students there to a get a feel of what type of people go to Purdue. If you get along, then perhaps Purdue is the place for you! If you do decide to come to Purdue, definitely participate in Boiler Gold Rush. It is one of my most memorable experiences at Purdue, and it is where I met most of my college friends!

Great for these types of students

Purdue is great for students who are at college to learn, and are willing to try hard. Most students at Purdue are secretly nerdy as I like to term it. The campus has an older stereotypical college campus feel, so if that is the atmosphere you are looking for, then Purdue is great for you!

If you are interested in chemistry and biology, but also want to take up flying, it's available. If you have worked hard through school to become the best you can be, have good grades, and are a well-rounded student (with a bounty of extracurricular and volunteer activities), there is a possibility to be awarded many scholarships- that are worth a lot!

    Tips for prospective students

You definitely need to visit the campus. That is a major part of the college choice. The first time I visited the campus, I felt immediately at home- I felt I could walk around (as a highschool student) and not be looked down upon or ridiculed by college students. I was welcomed to watching a track practice and students smiled at me as I walked around campus.

Great for these types of students

If you're an athletic, hard-working, determined student, this is the school for you. They have top-notch athletic teams, and everyone on campus seems to be in good shape (they all excercise all the time). Their engineering and physical science departments are top in the country (plus, a bonus for physics students is the former Astrophysicist and new university president they have).

College is definitely different than High school. In many of classes attendance is not required so student will not go. But attendance is recommended. You will do better if you attend your classes if you decide to go class. But, just going to class isn't enough. You have to pay attention, and by doing o you will be learning so much.

    Am enjoying being here

At the beginning of my first semester I did not want to be here, I wanted to go home every weekend and see my family and I did. By doing this I was not going out and making friends. The only friend I had for the first few months was my roommate and two girls that I had met during Boiler Gold Rush. At this point I wanted to not even return to Purdue the following Fall Semester. I wanted to go to school close to home. Going home every weekend was not getting me anywhere with friends, but when I actually started to stay at school and meet new people I made friends. After I began to make friend I realized how much I had really been missing out on by not staying at school. No instead of looking forward to going home every weekend I am sad to go home and leave my friends when I do actually have to go home!

    Tips for prospective students

Do not going home every chance you get! Even if you want to go home so desperately, you should really stay at school! If you do stay at school and have made some friends but you still dislike it talk to your parents or a friend about you problem!
GO TO CLASS! Do not skip classes! It will only harm you in the long run.
Stay up to date on your home work

Great for these types of students

Purdue is a great school for students who want to experience the College scene.
If you like to party a lot you can find parties almost every weekend! Boilermakers wake up before dawn during football season to dress up in costumes and hit the bars for Breakfast Club and celebrate the approaching weekend at a local dance club called The Neon Cactus for Thirsty Thursday.
People who would like to be engineers would like Purdue University. Purdue's engineering school is ranked 8th in the country.
People who like Agriculture. Purdue has a great agriculture school and many opportunities for student interested in that area.

i am currently a sophomore in the school of health and human sciences. my courses, like any other science major, are extremely tough. however, they are not impossible. i am learning so much because it is crucial to put my time and effort into studying in order to get the grade i desire. without hard work, it is so easy to fall behind and get an undesired grade. i am learning new ways to study, how to be more diligent, and when to get help when needed. fortunately, there are so many free resources and tutoring opportunities available here!

    Am enjoying being here

I am enjoying my time here more than anything! I was more than eager to graduate high school and move on. Being at Purdue has introduced me to so many opportunities that spark my interest. For example, I joined the rowing crew within the first weeks of school. It was something that I had never tried before. It is great to have so many educational and extracurricular clubs! Plus, it is a great way to make new friends.

    Bang for the buck

purdue is a great school with a very diverse selection of majors. like any big school, however, lectures and a large amount of classes can have up to 400 people in them. i am one who doesn't mind this teacher to student ratio. i came to a large school knowing that it would be this way. i do feel like i am learning a lot and still getting a great education.

    Tips for prospective students

weigh the pros and cons of attending a big school. make sure it is what you want before accepting admission. talk to your counselor about your decided major or options leading towards your major and make sure purdue has one that will suit it. i love the large amount of people because it adds that much more diversity. it is a wonderful school with a lot of credible academics and a ton of awesome clubs and sports!

Great for these types of students

purdue is great for students with a passion to achieve great grades and meet new people. it has a club for just about any interest. just like any college, it is not easy and requires a lot of hard work. come to purdue with a willingness to learn and get a great education!

I'm sophomore in Food Science. Purdue will teach you more in your first semester than you would ever imagine.Whether it be learning about chemical bonding, derivatives, how to brave the snow, traditions and customs of different cultures, or how to swallow your pride, Purdue has a seemingly infinite amount of knowledge awaiting you.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue definitely feels like home. Coming from Chicago I'm used to living a fast paced life. There's always something going on here. With call-outs, greek life, Broadway shows, and Purdue traditions no day is like the next. Boasting about 40,000 students, Purdue could Probably stand as its own small town. But you can definitely make campus feel as big or as small as you want.
As far as climate goes, Purdue is much more than your average college campus. There's a sense of pride and community by all students that is like no other. No matter what your major is or what issues you may have ,be it personal or academic, someone is always willing to help.

    Bang for the buck

After three semesters and a summer at Purdue I now understand why a Purdue grads are so coveted: you will be put through the ringer academically. Coming out of Purdue employers know that you're able to think outside the box, produce results under tight deadlines, work as team player, and be ready to be the next world changer. They also know you've interacted with student from around the world. Oh and did I mention the food on campus is good too?

    Tips for prospective students

Learn to study efficiently before you get here, it will save you tons of sleep. Considering taking calc and/or chemistry before you get to campus is the aren't your strong suits (talk to the admission office or someone in your respective college for more info about outside credits.) Be ready for new challenges.
Don't be afraid: there's over 6,000 students that have never been college just like you. Smile and friends will come naturally. Come with a receptive attitude for all Purdue has to offer.
If you decide to change your major don't sweat it. Just make sure you visit your academic advisor or the career center (CCO) if your not sure exactly what you want to do.
Don't wait until the last minute to ask for help. Treat issues early before they become unbearable.

Great for these types of students

Those who aren't afraid to accept a challenge, that want to be globally competitive, and who want to make an impact.

Purdue has certainly been teaching me many things not only in but also out of the classroom. In the classroom the professors are definitely dedicated to their subject and passionate about what they teach. Outside of the classroom, the life experience here is invaluable. With the large campus you are constantly meeting new people who often have a different culture than yourself. That is a life lesson that only a campus like Purdue has to offer.

    Am enjoying being here

Being at Purdue has without a doubt is my new home. Everybody that I have met is so kind and ready to make new friends. The greek life here is very popular but in no way so exclusive that non-greeks feel left out. Regardless of interests, anybody can find a place where they feel at home since we have over 800 clubs varying from religious groups to a sailing club!

    Bang for the buck

Since Purdue is a public school the tuition is definitely on the less expensive side especially for in-state students. Even though a student pays a bit less to go here, though, they are in no way losing out on anything. Purdue has some of the best professors including one of the chemistry professors who just got a nobel peace prize. The food in the dining halls is actually quite delicious. The residence halls are comfortable and most rooms are a fairly good size. Purdue gives a lot of resources to its students and is without a doubt worth all the money spent.

    Tips for prospective students

The number one advice I would give to any prospective students is to get involved as soon as you arrive on campus. Although that sounds cliche it really works. Now do not go and join seven different clubs. My advice would be to find one thing that you are truly passionate about, find a club that has a lot of people with the same passion, and get really involved there. That way you can spend your time doing whatever your passion is and creating friendships with people who share that passion with you.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is a fantastic school for anyone social. It is not a school where people will come to your room and pull you out to become friends with you. A student needs to go out and look for friends but they will not have to look far. Also Purdue is great for someone who has varied interests academically. Many programs at Purdue allow for plenty of elective classes so you are able to take any class that is about one of your random interests.

Depending on your major and the classes you decide to take, you are very well prepared for your intended career. I am in Biomedical Engineering. Classes are sometimes boring, but you learn more than you think while doing homework and studying for exams. The professors are amazing. In both engineering and in communications, where I did research, the professors want you to succeed and continually open doors for you succeed and gain experience.

    Am enjoying being here

What is not to love? It is a Big 10 school with 40,000 undergraduate students! No matter what you like to do or what type of person you are, you will find other people like you with the same interests. From quidditch to Greek life to intramurals. We have a lot of fun, whether it's going to see big concerts (Lady Gaga anyone?) or rooting on our football (eek...) or basketball (yay!) teams, there's always something to do. The one thing I struggle with is not being in a Christian environment.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state tuition is still cheaper than a lot of private colleges, and if you have the grades, there are some decent scholarships. It is hard though. There are some scholarship opportunities once you are here, but you have to look for them. My recommendation, get to know the right people. Getting involved with your major or with departments (such as women in engineering) will open you to a network that will share resources with you.

    Tips for prospective students

Don't stress your first few weeks. It's going to be new to everyone, just enjoy meeting a lot of new people and experiencing a lot of new things. Don't judge people or stereotype. Don't be afraid to pull out your map on campus or ask people for directions. At Purdue specifically, find landmarks (like the Bell tower) and walk everywhere the first few weeks (it'll delay the freshman fifteen and you'll get to know campus better). Do well academically those first two semesters! They are most likely going to be your easiest semesters in college, and it is much harder to bring a good GPA down than a bad GPA up.

Great for these types of students

Social butterflies; students looking for a lot of great opportunities and looking to meet a lot of wonderful people; not recommended for students who want to be in a small school environment all the time (the small school environment is felt at certain times, but you definitely know it is a school of 40000 at others)

I am a Computer Graphics Student. Even though my major is generic, one of the required classes for Freshman is CGt 101, which is all about finding a topic you enjoy and turning it into a career. Through my classes, I have met alumni of the college, along with professionals in my interest area. I feel that all of the classes work well together, and you can easily personalize your degree.

    Am enjoying being here

The campus here is beautiful, and I mad a lot of friends at Boiler Gold Rush, the orientation program. The construction is a bit annoying, but it is easily avoided. Most of my professors are a bit crazy, so my classes are very entertaining.

    Bang for the buck

I'm an Indiana resident, so I have in-state tuition, and that's perfect for my family's budget. Purdue has one of the best Technology schools and Engineering schools in the nation, so being able to go here for a lot less than MIT or somewhere else is perfect.

    Tips for prospective students

Definitely take a tour. This lets you get a feel for the dorms and how far they will be from your classes. If your from out of state, definitely ask about the weather. Several of my friends had to make emergency trips to Walmart because they didn't have any winter clothing. If you can, try leaving your winter clothes at home for the warm months, and then switching your wardrobe over a break, so that you don't bring more clothes than you have room for, because you won't need that cute turtleneck sweater in August.

Great for these types of students

This college is a very smart choice for students interested in Technology, Engineering, or Pre-Med and Veterinary sciences. I would especially recommend it to in-state students, but it isn't too bad for out of state tuition either (I have friends here from Hawaii and Wyoming).

There are a few classes at Purdue that are basically a joke. There are also some classes that actually are quite helpful in terms of your major. However after having a unmotivated first year I realized that going to class actually helps you learn stuff. However as stated above there are those classes that are a joke and basically you just have to show up to class.

    Tips for prospective students

There are a lot of majors available to you and this allows you to switch majors easily within Purdue. However, if you have a list of majors you want to pursue and Purdue doesn't have it then I would reconsider this school. There are a few majors I myself wanted to pursue such as Architecture but it wasn't offered here and the Building Construction Management program is more on-site work not office work which was something I preferred.

Great for these types of students

People who love schools that have huge school pride with plenty of alumni coming back for school events such as football games. The Engineering, Business, and Aviation-oriented students since those programs are one of the best in the nation. Purdue is also great for students who want to be part of a huge Greek community, since we do have the 2nd biggest Greek Life in the nation. Boiler Up!

I am currently a pre-pharmacy student. Purdue makes it easy to fit in as little or many classes as you want. I am taking 17 credit hours and I don't feel pressured. Even though Purdue has many classes that take place in big lecture halls, they feel much smaller because the teachers have such a great dynamic to immerse students. For every large lecture, Purdue also has recitations for more personal times. These are often taught by TA's, but they know plenty about the subject they are assisting in. Every TA and teacher has office hours and are available by email, which they check multiple times a day. I have never had a hard time finding someone to help me.

    Am enjoying being here

I was intimidated by the size of Purdue at first. But I quickly realized that it feels much smaller once you live here. Everything is in walking distance. I live in Wiley Hall, and there are always activities going on. From electricity-free gaming night to penny wars for UNICEF. And if you can think of a club, Purdue has got it. If we don't? Feel free to make one.

    Bang for the buck

I am an out of state student, so my tuition is pretty high. I still feel like I am getting my education's worth though. Not only am I getting a degree from one of the leading universities in the country, but I can readily network with other Purdue students from things like help with interviews to setting up job shadowing opportunities.

    Tips for prospective students

When you get your books, no matter your college, do your research. I find that some of my books I hardly use. Also, some of my books are available online, complete copies, and they're cheaper. I also ended up renting a few of my books, which saved me hundreds.

Great for these types of students

Really anyone. Purdue is so big that you can find every type of person here, and fits for every student.

I am definitely learning a lot here at Purdue. For instance during my Pre Calculus course I learned a lot more than I ever imagined I would in such a short period of time. I had taken Pre-Calculus my last year in high school and got an A and thought I knew everything there was to know about that subject, and boy was I wrong. That goes to show you that even the most simple subject taught here at Purdue are taught on a world class level. One of the most interesting things I found about this course was a quote that the teacher used to post every day before class. It went something along the lines of, Haven't I told you if you think you know something that, that is most certainly your barrier to learning something new. This spoke volumes to not only me but to the style of instructing here at Purdue.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue has a lot to offer, with hundreds of organizations for every interest that any one may have. There is always something to do.

    Bang for the buck

Although Purdue University is pricey for out of state student I feel that I am getting a world class education at a relatively low price.

    Tips for prospective students

Apply Early, Definitely check out the campus and college life at Purdue. Try your best in high school, as grades do matter however are not everything. Most important of all find yourself here at Purdue.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is heavily an engineering based school, however I would say that doesn't limit it to only that field. Purdue is well renowned in other areas as well such as Tourism and Hospitality Management, Nursing, and Pharmacy just to name a few. So if you are interested in Purdue don't let your career choice hold you back. Whatever your career choice may be, Purdue will offer an excellent degree program for you so come join the Purdue Boilermaker Family!

If your going here for history or engineering this is a good school. If you are going for business (Aka Krannert) its quite useless. 3 Years into school and still my only management class has been accounting. Had to retake accounting because of having a TA that barely spoke English and could not understand questions I was asking her, teacher always said talk to the TA. I am having to retake calculus thanks to them giving us so many problems on the exam that it is impossible for us to even have time to calculate them all, the teacher said that when he took his own test he had plenty of spare time left. I have also had teachers that do not know anything more about their topic then what they read in their book.

So far I have learned more from TV and playing Video games for how to manage a business then I have by going 3 years at purdue.

The most I have learned at purdue would be from economics, history courses, and political science courses. The classes are really good, and required, but they are quite useless for my degree.

    Am enjoying being here

Purdue has a lot of fun things to do, only problem is I am so busy studying for exams with tons of trick questions and trying to figure out how to do calculus faster for the exam I have no time to enjoy anything here. If your in political science I hear you have lots of free time.

    Bang for the buck

Its well known within this school that they make some classes so hard that the only way to pass them is to have known the material before hand and even then you do not have the time to even think through their exams. I have had to retake 2 classes already due to having a teacher that couldn't teach/barely spoke english and one where they give you so many problems on the exam that only the teacher or calculus geniuses could complete them within the time limit. Really a waste of money to have to retake classes that you passed, thanks to bad teachers, yet is not an acceptable grade by management.

    Tips for prospective students

if your not going for Engineering look for another school. This school does not care about its students and is raising tuition 5% a year in order to compete with the prices of other Big Ten schools. They have too many teachers that do not know how to teach, cannot speak english, or do not care.

Great for these types of students

    Engineers.

i'm a freshman here at purdue and so far i really enjoy. i've made a lot of friends, most of whom live around me from joining a learning community. there's a lot to do on this really pretty campus.

    Tips for prospective students

if you're given the chance to join a learning community, join. you'll start seeing a lot of people who are in a lot of your classes, and depending on you and the class size sometimes, you'll make friends quick, which really makes the school all that much more enjoyable.

    Academic Rigor

since i'm still just in my freshman year, i can't really speak for all the of the academic rigor of the school. purdue is ranked as one of the hardest schools to get an a in, and i do have classes that require me to put extra work into. but of course you always have those classes where you might think is a joke, but for the most part all the classes require your attention in order to pass.

    Dorm Life

awesome! all of my good friends i've made so far are mostly the people who live around me. the sense of community is awesome and we do a lot of things that might be held on campus together. my ra is amazing too, and the dorms here all hold programs that the residence members are able to take part in.

    Food and Dining

freshman fifteen indeed. the dining courts here are amazing with a wide variety of food for you to eat. there's also an area where there are restaurants that aren't part of the residence halls if you don't want to eat at the dining courts.

    Bang for the buck

purdue is a pretty well known school, also for it's athletics and stuff too. going to a well known school is pretty good, as i feel like it bumps up your chance to land a job after you graduate. there's also a lot of job and internship opportunities that come to you by email, at least for my college. though i may say that if you're out of state you might wanna consider going somewhere else. i'm paying out of state tuition, and it really, really hurts. but i love the school, so it really depends on how worthwhile you make your stay here.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

apparently if you walk under the bell tower you won't graduate in four years. i learned this during orientation, still have yet to walk under it, though i see people do it all the time. there's also a lion fountain on campus that spouts drinking water, which is awesome, and there's some superstition with that, like after you go to the lion fountain you have to kiss under the bell tower...or something.

Great for these types of students

engineering! purdue is highly ranked, top 10 i believe, for the best undergraduate engineering programs in the country. purdue's sports games are also awesome, and if you love getting involved on campus, this is great too.

    Clubs and Activities

purdue has like 900+ organizations, which is great. granted, some of those organizations may seem dead or old, but regardless there's still a good number.

    Campus Safety

purdue has an escort hotline, which is cool. never used it, but it's nifty. incidents rarely happen but they do occur, as we get texts when there have been incidents. purdue also has these yellow boxes where you press the button and it's an instant 911, and campus security or the police department on campus, which is an official legit police department or something, will rush to you. purdue also has a legit fire department too, and it's pretty official, as i've been told.

purdue is a technology-focused school, but is growing in other majors. purdue is a great big-ten sports school, with a small, country-college setting. purdue is very community focused, especially within the residence hall system.

    Tips for prospective students

my best tip is to go crazy your first year here. i don't mean crazy parties, i mean fill up all of your time. make tons of new friends and do fun activities with them, join any clubs you think sound interesting, and keep up on your schoolwork. above all, get out and keep yourself busy!

    Academic Rigor

purdue is academically rigorous in the technological fields, however, in the liberal arts field, many classes are easy, and don't even require studying.

Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus

the best tradition is sledding on slayter hill. students snag trays from the dining court and go out and sled when it snows. another cool place on campus is triple x. it is a diner with awesome food, and it is open 24 hours every day! great for a meal at any time. and make sure to try the peanut butter burger!

    Clubs and Activities

nine hundred and thirty-seven of them!

-don't be nervous about the size of purdue; everyone is friendly.
-get excited for college because it's a great time in life, but get ready to work, too. don't forget why you are really here.

    Academic Rigor

purdue is a very tough college. it has very difficult programs in science and engineering, especially. not to say that there aren't great liberal arts opportunities also, because there are. i wouldn't come to purdue expecting any 'easy a's.' the work load is hard, and professors expect you to study accordingly.

    Dorm Life

i can't account for every dorm here at purdue because i only lived in earhart. i really loved the fact that we had air conditioning! the staff and ra's were really awesome there. they know that the dorms are a big adjustment for people, so they are understanding about your situation and any problems that arise. there are always events planned for the hall, so don't worry about being bored! learning communities are also a big part of earhart, but i would make sure to meet a few people on those floors because they definitely aren't for everyone.

I am a freshman from Charlotte, NC. I am a Computer and Information Technology major. I am indeed learning a lot from Purdue. There are lots of international students around campus so if you open your eyes, you can learn a lot from them. Many things you can learn from other people's cultures.

I definitely learned a lot about Greek life coming to this university. My family was never big on Greek life so coming to a school with the 2nd or 3rd largest Greek system is in the nation is definitely a learning experience.

    Am enjoying being here

Weather is very bipolar. Can be raining one day, to sunny, to snowing all in the same week. Other than that, the campus is beautiful. Plenty to do if you keep your ears and eyes open. There is always stuff going on around campus. The school is big on Greek life also so join a Fraternity or Sorority if that is your thing. Also there are plenty of professional organizations to choose from also.

    Bang for the buck

I'm not sure spending $40,000 is a bang for the buck anywhere. But I guess that's my opinion since I am out of state. It is a great school though. There is a lot to learn and gain from being at Purdue. If you are out of state though, strive to obtain scholarships. It will make your stay there so much easier when you aren't worried about your finances.

As for in state students, it is a lot easier for them. In state students have plenty of ways to get their tuition payed off. So it may not seem as expensive to them. If you are in state look towards getting Purdue Promise or 21st century scholarship.

    Tips for prospective students

Study hard and find as many study groups and resources as you can. The higher the GPA the more things you can do in life. Enjoy the campus and stay involved also. They say, College is what you make it. Believe me when I say this is 100% true. College can either be fun or a complete bore. It's your decision.

Great for these types of students

This school is definitely great for students who love the cold. It snows like crazy here and the weather is always cold. So if you're from California or Florida, this may not be the best school for you.

This school is also great for international students. There is a lot of diversity around campus so you will always be able to find a group of students that have the same interest as you.

Last, but not least, this school is great for hard workers. Purdue is a very tough university. Many people transfer from here because the work is too hard. If you want to succeed as this school, be prepared to bust your butt. Work hard for 4 years for a great job after college.

One word of warning is that I entered with a fair amount of advanced credit with the intention of pursuing an engineering degree. However, I found the First Year Engineering program to not only be very restrictive, but also a complete waste of my time and money. I learned almost nothing in the first semester because I was basically not allowed to take any majors classes and was stuck taking the FYE courses that didn't teach me anything. The ENGR labelled class spent hours talking about subjects that I learned in 7th grade without adding much or any depth to my understanding (e.g. mean, median, mode, standard deviation)

After CODOing (Change of Degree Objective) into the College of Science, I was able to actually take classes that would advance my degree or at least my personal interests. In particular I was able to take a physics class that was completely new material for me

As a local, I'm not sure I can say that I thoroughly enjoy being here because I've lived here for a while (10 years). I'm not saying that the atmosphere is bad, but perhaps I just stopped paying attention because campus is basically my back yard.

    Bang for the buck

As a local with parents who work at Purdue, I don't really have a very fair perspective on this either. I have the option of living at home and have a 40% fee remission because of my parents. However, even at full price this is most definitely one of the best deals for in-state students. For out of state students, it may be a good deal depending on your program. If you manage to stick through engineering it is probably one of the better value degrees.

    Tips for prospective students

Choose a major that you are interested in, but also take into account the requirements of the degree program. If there are two similar programs that you are interested in but one lets you do what you want (e.g. take whatever extra classes you want), do the one with the flexibility.

Stop, right there! Quit being so excited to move out of your house, away from your family and into your new life. Take advantage of the time you have left at home. Sure, going away to school is exhilarating but that feeling will wear away quickly and soon you may be wondering why you even left home in the first place.
I was so happy, I cried the day I received my acceptance letter and I wished my last few months at home away too quickly. My freshman year looked terrifying a few times which made me want to be home more than anything.
Be excited about becoming a more independent adult! You deserve that right. But know that, every once in a while, you're going to want to be home and completely away from everything Purdue has to offer. Sooner or later, you're going to miss your family and old friends. Cherish them while you still can.

Make sure you review course materials before classes begin in the fall or spring so that you have better knowledge about what you will be learning about in class. Also, make sure you contact and meet with TA's frequently.

    Will learn a lot

I've learned a lot from simply visiting the campus. The classes are engaging and the course selection is wide. A great education is guaranteed here.

    Will enjoy being here

Everybody here is so nice and the campus has its own intrinsic beauty. Purdue is full of opportunities to enjoy life.

    Bang for the buck

It is well worth the cost. I may have a full-ride, but I still think the services provided at Purdue are worth way more than they're priced at. The food, the dorms, and the classes are all quality.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is perfect for students that take learning seriously and love to gain new knowledge and skills.

    Am learning a lot

I have attended Purdue University for the past two years. During my time here I have been challenged academically in most of my classes. The rigorous level expected of students by the faculty is standard for the caliber of this college. Purdue's name is recognized world wide and the level of academic excellence expected reflects that.

    Am enjoying being here

I have become very involved with the Purdue Band department. I have been a member of the drumline in the marching band both years. This past year also gave me the opportunity to travel with the marching band to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. I was also selected as one of three drumset players for the men's basketball band. As an out of state student, the ties I have to the band department staff and students has made the transition easy. The friendships I have made during my first two years are lasting friendships that I look forward to continuing for the next two years of my schooling and beyond graduation.

Add to that the fantastic campus and Purdue has become my new home.

    Bang for the buck

As mentioned I am an out of state student. While my hometown is only a few hours away, it is in a different state. Purdue's name is truly world renowned so I know I am getting a high quality degree, but I am still paying extremely high tuition.

    Tips for prospective students

Tour the campus and talk to the admissions staff and tour guides. They are passionate and well informed about the University. Make sure you pick a college or university that has a diverse curriculum to offer you as a student, whether that is Purdue or some place else. If you pick a college you love, you will be happy. My last piece of advice for prospective students is to get involved! No matter where you go, if you just sit in your dorm room and go to class you will not be happy. Get out, meet people, make friends, and get involved!

Great for these types of students

Purdue is a very large and diverse campus. It has just about anything that any student could want. Do your research and talk to admissions. Most importantly, don't be afraid to ask questions. Everyone on campus including the students are helpful and kind. If you have a question just ask!

The nice thing about Purdue is that you can attend one of their smaller school then transfer. This is a good way to save money.

    Tips for prospective students

Make sure you apply early to get into a school like Purdue University.

This is a great school for students interested in engineering and pharmacy. They offer many other great programs as well.

Not only am I learning in the classroom, I am learning in the real world! Purdue offers so many opportunities to learn outside of classwork through community projects, competitive projects, learning events, and internship/co-op opportunities.

    Am enjoying being here

I absolutely love the atmosphere at Purdue! I was afraid that being so far away from home would make me homesick, and while I do occasionally miss my friends and family at home, I never regret being here! In fact, I miss being away from Purdue when I am home! There is so much spirit around the school and the students are always so friendly and energetic. The dorms are comfortable and convenient, and the dining courts are amazing! There is a wide variety of food for any diet and the mini-marts on campus make it easy to dine on your own also. The campus is welcoming, comfortable, fun, and beautiful no matter what the season!

    Bang for the buck

The out of state tuition is a bit high (and still rising...) but the Purdue name will definitely be worth it! Purdue is known world-wide, especially for their engineering program, and the faculty, programs, and campus are top-notch.

    Tips for prospective students

Visit! Purdue is a beautiful and unique university, and I can say from experience that visiting the school made all the difference in my decision. When I was first accepted to Purdue, I thought that was great, but that I wasn't sure I would want to spend the money or drive so far to go to school. Yet on a weekend visit, and after a tour from a professor, I knew, right then and there, this is where I wanted to be. I never felt the same way when I visited my other potential school choices.

Talk to students! Purdue Boilermakers are smart, friendly, and energetic. We love to tell new students about all the unique things about Purdue and why Purdue is the best place to be!

Try new things! At Purdue, you are bound to find a group, organization, or activity that will peak your interest, so don't be afraid to find out more and try it. These opportunities will not only look great on a resume, they will offer you experiences you can't get anywhere else!

I think the education here is great, especially if you want to go into engineering. If you are an engineer, your first year will be fairly restrictive and you will only be able to take the basic science, math, and general education classes. However, don't fret because the classes only get more flexible as you progress. The one class I feel compelled to warn everybody about is the first year engineering class. If you are lucky enough to be in the honors class you will get to work with robotics if not then you will be doing mind-numbing work for hours that is completely inapplicable in any career unless you happen to teach this very class in the future.

    Am enjoying being here

There is no doubt I am enjoying it here at Purdue. The classes are engaging, the clubs are abundant, and there is always something big happening (except during summer school). No matter what, you should never be bored at Purdue because there are always so many things going on.

    Bang for the buck

Hard to say much about this, I guess it is about average. The one thing you should probably keep in mind is that scholarship money from Purdue essentially is decided before you get to college. By this I mean that the financial aid department will decide how much scholarship money you will get for your first four years based on the application(with SAT and ACT scores) that they received prior to you arriving. So, keep in mind that no matter how much you plan to improve your grades in college you won't get any merit scholarships unless you did good in high school.

    Tips for prospective students

    1. When you first come to college, keep a level head. I have seen a lot of people face problems because they choose to put partying before academics.
    2. If you are in engineering make sure to take the first year HONORS engineering course at all cost. Otherwise your in for a tedious and pointless year.
    3. Get involved in the numerous clubs at Purdue. Just about anything you can think of for a club, Purdue has it.

Great for these types of students

    - People planning on doing engineering
    - People who are well balanced between academics and fun
    - People who live in Indiana (In State tuition is great)
    - People who like math and science
    - People who want exceptional job placement

Each of my classes brings something new everyday. I have learned so much so far and I continue learning with each passing moment at Purdue. The teachers I have had so far have all been well-qualified and interested in their subject material and have great backgrounds and renown in the academic community.

    Am enjoying being here

I truly love it here. The campus is great and the availability of both on and off campus housing makes going to Purdue easy, fun, and fitting.

    Bang for the buck

Out of state and international have to pay quite a bit just like at any college but the in state tuition is not that bad and it is certainly worth the experience that Purdue provides.

    Tips for prospective students

Go to class. Going to class and participating in class discussions truly helps you to understand the material and to do better on the tests. Truthfully the easiest part about going to college at Purdue is simply going to class. Going to class also makes everything else that much easier too. Many teachers reward attendance and/or participation with extra credit as well.

Great for these types of students

Students who enjoying learning, who want to experience diversity, who want to receive an efficient, productive degree and who want to expand their minds and horizons will love Purdue.

I am an engineering major, so the classes are hard. However, the resources of help are countless! One thing that makes Purdue stand our for me is the fact that help with any subject is not hard to find. Anything from payed Tudors to free Tudors to help rooms. Learning is really made easy at Purdue, you just have to be motivated to put in the effort.

    Am enjoying being here

everyone is concerned with the social life at a school as well as things to do around campus. Well Purdue is full of both. We have The Village, which is basically on campus, and full of mini marts, restaurants, and for the older students-bars. Also, its not hard to find things to do on the weekends, you can find anything from cultural dance shows to concerts to Broadway shows. Purdue is a very alive campus when it comes to social events.

    Bang for the buck

The cost of purdue I feel is reasonable. Also, if you are having difficulties finding money for school the Financial oddfice is very helpful in showing you what all your options are and what you must do. They will help you step by step with whatever your problem is.

    Tips for prospective students

The best thing to do is visit the school. You can never know too much about a school so ask questions. ASK STUPID QUESTIONS. Questions that you may now think are stupid, your going to wish later you knew. Ask little details about everything when you are on a tour. When i got to school i found that i had no idea how to use the laundry system. Also, do the research online about the school, find different specific information on meal plans, clubs, and even classes. Most importantly with Purdue, EAT AT ONE OF OUR DINNING COURTS. Their are amazing. the food is truly one of the best I've ever had at a university.

Great for these types of students

Purdue is good for a wide variety of students, i came from a school that had a graduating class of 24 people. Making the switch from such a small school to one as big as Purdue was easier than i thought. Of course i still miss knowing everyone i walk by, but sometimes seeing new people everyday is refreshing. They also say a school that big cant be good because some classes are 300-400 people. But honestly, i had a math class that had 300 people in the beginning of the semester, and it did not feel that way at all. I asked questions when i had one and the professor would always stop for a question and answer it before moving on. Also, by the end of the semester that 300 turned in about 100 because people had either dropped out or didn't go to class. So don't be scared of that number. If you care about your education and pay attention in class and sit close to the professor they will even learn your name and call on you by name during class to answer questions. You just have to be whiling to try.
