Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot From the first time I was given my syllabus, I was encountered with the many tasks that I was expected to do. Surprised, I learned that there is no excuse why a work shall be missing or late since you already have what and when it is going to be due for each day. It is College! Three skills came up to my mind after I walked out from each class: time management, perseverance and creativity.
Time management is essential in everything that you do in this life and you will practice this in full extent if you are a full-time student. You are expected to come up with innovative ideas to being able to balance all classes, work and even clubs (or extracurricular activities), not to mention family or social times. The key to time management though, is being able to prioritize what matters the most and what is going to give you the most benefits or if a task has a closer deadline. When this is mastered, then whatever is left will fall in its place.
The next skill is perseverance. There is a famous quote that says, “Perseverance is not a long run but instead many short runs.” This is exactly the way professors will test you stress threshold, consciously! You really just have to follow a routine that has worked for you to become successful. It could be studying right after class that makes a difference between an A from a B.
The third skill is creativity. While this skill is sometimes bypassed by many college students, this is one of the most important things to do when everything fails; this includes the first two skills. Being creative is really not hard. You just have to find ways to learn differently; being open- minded. This means, for example, that you can study with a group rather than studying alone, --which could be counterproductive if you tend to get distracted often. The trick here is to find at most five people including you and really help each other master the material.
If you really want to learn in college and stand out from the crowd then, you will have to practice your good skills or work to make them better. These three, always work for me but whatever works for you. Good luck!Am enjoying being here I love the fact that Rio Hondo is a small college to be around, great diversity in student’s ethnicity background and great support from outreach programs.
Having a small class gives you the opportunity to have a closer connection with your professors. Imagine taking a class in a large classroom where 130 students can fit at most. Well, this happens in almost every college, but not in Rio Hondo College! This will limit your distractions and the possibility of getting lost among all the students you have to compete with. Yes, you guessed right. You will have more time to worry about the tests and studying time than on how many are competing with you for a good grade. Having this said, the classes are more selective and smaller.
Rio Hondo College is also very diverse with ethnicity backgrounds, which makes it even a more interesting place to meet people and to bond with.
Rio Hondo also offers great support from staff to those who qualify. There are programs for the disabled, the low-income, nursing programs, and math and science majors. Pretty much help is in the college you would just have to look for it. There is even a program for free tutoring and free printing center.Bang for the buck The unit is $36 but it covers for the psychological services and nursing emergencies that you might need. You can also eat for free for three days as A.S.B sponsors their fellow students with pizza, chips and many times candy with a drink. The first time is when the semester is barely starting; the second time is when midterms are coming up and the last, is when finals are coming up. It is a nice relaxing way of thinking that at least you do not have to worry about buying food for three days on exam seasons and you mingle to relieve a little stress before going back to study. All of these services are paid when you pay your tuition.
Tips for prospective students Almost always you are going to find yourself with a lot of pressure from parents, professors and even society to be what they what you to be. One tip that I would give students is never to give upon their dream. There is no such thing as a bad dream; there are just people who do not think that you can handle that type of eternal imagination. Once a professor told me, “You can have a person steal your ideas, but no one can ever steal what is inside here, (pointing at my head).” So go ahead and get you boots dirty; get rough and march on, who cares what people say if they think you cannot become a doctor or a lawyer or whatever your dream is. Sing the melody line you hear in your head. But, remember that there are a lot of resources that are willing to help you in college; it is just the matter of looking for them.
Great for these types of students This type of college has plenty of hills--especially when you are trying to go up to reach the actual campus. these is great to get any student's brain started before class; having it alert.
This campus is also a wild life campus to be in. There is deer and lots of squirrels.
The campus also offers great sports, like soccer, softball, basketball, Cross Country and Track and Field. All of this sports are for women and men.Login to rate or flag the reviews

Categories Rating Comments Am learning a lot The college is very student oriented and offers tons of classes not only on campus but online and at several other sites to expand to all students.
Am enjoying being here The campus is under construction and should be done completely by Spring 2012. Several sections of constructions are visible and the school is going to look more modern and open areas for students to hag out.
Bang for the buck At Rio Hondo the average cost of class in around $36 a unit and almost all classes here at Rio Hondo are transferable to all other schools in CA.
Tips for prospective students There are great programs to assist students to enhance development and increase achievement rates among the students.
Great for these types of students It is great for all students special for those who do not have the money or financial aid to attend four year school. Besides you can always transfer out.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rio Hondo College is, in my opinion, an over-sized high school. Which isn't such a bad situation to be in because many colleges and universities can be intimidating to people due to being so large. Even though the school is built practically on hills it is worth the view you catch when your on campus, especially with its wild habitat areas.
Tips for prospective students Best to come early when school semester begins or get things done before the semester starts because there are many students that are trying to speak with the same administrator you probably are.
Academic Rigor Like many schools, they'll have its bad professors and great ones too but from the classes that I have taken, all of my professors have been fair graders and nice people.
Dorm Life There are no dorms. From what I know of.
Food and Dining Food is expensive but dining areas are always clean.
What to do for fun There are hiking trails near the school. There is a Speed Zone, go karts, close by, at least a ten minute drive. There are nice restaurants after a three minute drive.
Bang for the buck If qualified for a BOG Waiver, classes for the Fall and Spring semester would be less than $100.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus I'm only a freshman and can't say much of traditions.
Great for these types of students I am a business major and so far the classes have been going extraordinary great.
Clubs and Activities Many clubs, activities and some sports a person can join.
Greek Life There are some chapters but not to fond of them.
Campus Safety Recently installed emergency poles around the school and parking lots in case of emergency happens, the local police will be notified at a faster rate.

Tips for prospective students Future students can learn here with the help of great professors and counselors. It is a small campus and it does make you feel at home.
Academic Rigor Academics could be a little stronger, but it is a great place to learn.
Dorm Life There are no dorms here.
Food and Dining Food could be better.
What to do for fun There are students activities throughout the year. There are also plays and events happening at the wray theatre.
Bang for the buck There could be more done especially for how much students are paying.
Campus Safety Campus safety could be better

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Rio Hondo is a great college campus. It is not too big and not too small. Classrooms are easy to find and asking for help is easy.
Tips for prospective students Get to class early because parking can be an issue, especially the first couple of weeks and during finals. Look up teachers on a rating website before registering for classes. Some teachers are horrible but not all. Wear comfortably clothing and shoes. There are a lot of plants and bushes and stairs.
Academic Rigor The classes are very good and teachers for the most part make class interesting. Classes are not too easy so you won't get bored, but at the same time, the teacher often times works at the pace of the students so no one gets left behind.
Dorm Life There are no dorms on campus unfortunately, if there were I'd be living in one. There are local apartments though, a little pricy if you ask me.
Food and Dining There is not a very big variety of food here on campus however there is a local subway, el tepayec, waba grill, and burger express. The food on campus isn't very healthy either. Although it may taste good, I can only imagine the fat content of a single slice of pizza here on campus.
What to do for fun There are a lot activities on campus. Health teacher hold exercise classes in there spare time FOR FREE and there is a lot of free natural spaces to read or do yoga or just relax. There are several tables and chairs and benches throughout campus as well. There are always workshops and events in the lower quad that are fun to go to in spare time or in between classes. There are people selling food and jewelery and people hosting little games/competition. It's a lot of fun.
Bang for the buck I do not feel the prices at Rio Hondo are too bad considering the prices at Universities. I feel that for the money I am paying, these classes are great.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus There is a hiking trail on campus that I would love to hike on but honestly, I am scared too. I wish it was better maintained and gated off and away from the wildlife. there are rattle snakes and mountain lions that can make such a hike unsafe.
Great for these types of students Rio Hondo is great for all types of students. There are a lot of sports here on campus, there is a continuing education program for certificate programs. I always see such a variety of individuals in the classrooms. People vary in age, race, and personality. But hey, it's California right?
Clubs and Activities There are a number of clubs and if there wasn't a club that a group of people would like to join, they can easily start one. Clubs have activities and events all the time, and do community service for the school and do outings with each other.
Greek Life None.
Campus Safety Hiking on campus probably isn't the safest activity, however the campus is very open and I feel safe walking from class to class or even relaxing on the grass reading a book.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences This college provides smaller scale classes to some degree. Although this college is located on a hill, the view and environment is great. New additions to this college have been made recently and give it an excellent modern look.
Tips for prospective students Register for classes as soon as possible. Don't procrastinate on adding classes. Take the bus to school for the first two weeks since parking will be a hassle but it tends to go down after the deadline for adding classes comes up.
Academic Rigor Some classes and professors are fairly difficult, but will challenge you to the point of actually learning.
Dorm Life There are no dorms at this college.
Food and Dining They just transferred the student cafeteria and have added a Starbucks. So i'd say it's a pretty good upgrade.
What to do for fun Join clubs and attend many events at the Wray Theater. There are also a handful of events throughout the semester around campus for certain holiday themes and dates.
Bang for the buck The price for units is decent. Although rises due to budget cuts doesn't look too promising. On the other hand, the professor strive to find the best option on what book to use and at the same time cheaper to purchase for the students. The professors actually take the time to meet with students and help them succeed.
Share any unusual traditions or locations on campus The whole location of the campus is quite unusual. It's located on top of a hill next to a cemetery. It also has a small observatory located behind the campus. You can follow it by following a small trail. You'll be able to visit this observatory if you take Astronomy with Professor Highfill.
Great for these types of students Great for art major students and those interested in joining a fire academy or police academy.
Clubs and Activities There is a wide variety of clubs to choose from. Some that come to mind are the Honor's Transfer Society, ASB, and many more. Activities are the norm on campus.
Greek Life I don't really know about anything on this subject.
Campus Safety The campus safety is pretty good. The campus is pretty relaxing and there is usually nothing out of the ordinary happening that will put your safety in danger. Although some incidents have happened it's usually not that common. Then again that happens everywhere, right?

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences honestly rio hondo has a large staff that is all willing to help you pass your classes, they want you to graduate. aside from the fact that the faculty is great, the campus is looking amazing with the new renovations.
Tips for prospective students i'd say the three tips that have made me a successful student at rio are: don't be late to class,do your homework, it's incredibly helpful, and most importantly do not procrastinate!
Academic Rigor some classes will really push you to your limits, others will be simple, while others just really boring it's a mix really. overall it's a great experience.
Dorm Life well rio hondo has no dorms therefore there's no real dorm life... but the campus looks awesome after the new renovations. the one down side of rio hondo i'd have to say is the parking so be prepared to search for parking.
Food and Dining in addition to receiving a new beautiful campus rio hondo has created a new cafeteria its pretty huge and has a great selection of food. you can find anything you want to eat really in a convenient location.
What to do for fun there is tons of stuff you can do around the rio hondo campus. with the new student lounge you can hang out at school, or the new computer lab you can browse the internet at school. not to mention that it's in the beautiful city of whittier.
Bang for the buck rio hondo is dirt cheap for what you receive it's a bargain and in the long run it's definitely worth it.
Clubs and Activities so many clubs to join at rio hondo. take your pick whether you're a honors type of person or a musical person. there is even a business club at rio hondo.
Campus Safety recently rio hondo has upgraded its security by placing several signal stations around the campus its a really safe campus general there is nothing crazy that happens around campus.

Categories Rating Comments In three sentences rio hondo is pretty well organized. the campus is amazing but needs more parking space. teachers on the most part are quite friendly
Tips for prospective students be on time everyday, teachers hate it when students are late in some occasions teachers will lock the doors, drop you from the class, or kick you out. stay ahead of time if your recently planning to register have in mind that freshmen are almost always last in getting classes, older students, not referring to age, have priority. do your homework, classwork, etc., your not in high school anymore most to practically all teachers will not accept late work. just stay ahead of the game and do not let your friends or family interferer family and friend can be distractions and last but not least be active and if you need help ask teachers are there to help you and in most colleges there are tutors that are there to help as well. do all of these and you should do well in school.
Academic Rigor it really depends on you and how your learning habits are. some do well with classes on campus and other do better independently.
Dorm Life there is no dorms
Food and Dining food is alright
What to do for fun there are clubs on campus which anyone can join, some clubs do require some stuff from you in order to be eligible to join. hang out with friends, go on the computers in the library, or read a book there. talk to teachers, make new friends there are a lot of things to do that are fun, its just what you make of it.
