Categories Rating Comments In three sentences Riverland Community College has been the perfect fit for me and my busy lifestyle. The class times are perfect for my life and the professors are understanding and empathetic toward those who deserve periodic slack. The staff takes the time to get to know each person individually and the class sizes are perfect.
Tips for prospective students A prospectice student should come and visit one of the campuses to get a true understanding of how personal the experience at Riverland Community College can be. There are so many options available to help them succeed in their goals and many staff and students that are willing to help every student reach their academic and social goals.
Academic Rigor The professors demand a certain amount of participation from the students. Missing classes or being tardy is unacceptable. The professors are willing to work with students who are struggling as well as a Student Success Center that exists to help those who need some extra help. The course work is appropriately difficult to teach without overwhelming the student.
Dorm Life Riverland is a College mainly directed toward self-sufficient adults with their own homes or apartments. Many of the students have children. However, there are several locations that make access to the college reasonable.
Food and Dining The Albert Lea Campus offers a delicious assortment of homemade meals as well as sandwiches and snacks for on-the-go students.
What to do for fun There are recreation rooms at the Albert Lea and Austin campuses. Many students enjoy participating in the sports programs through the college. Opportunities to enhance one's theatre skills are offered through some of the programs offered throughout the college. The staff also makes the effort to bring the students together regularly for hallway activities and free snacks as well as drawings for prizes.
Bang for the buck Riverland Community College is a relatively inexpensive college to attend (considering the recent and immensely painful inflation on college rates). To offset this expense, knowing that many of the students are already financially strapped, the staff often surprises students with free treats and meals throughout the days and weeks. Computers are always available at the campus and printing is included in the cost of tuition! There is also free tutoring offered upon request at all of the campuses. The tutors are passionate about helping others succeed in their academic goals making it easier for students to go out and make the money they have always wanted to make in the profession that they have always wanted to be in.
Great for these types of students Riverland Community College is a melting pot of everything America has to offer. There are students still in high school as well as students who could be retired. Many of the students live on their own and are working either part-time or full-time. Besides carying the load of work and school, many also have children. Riverland offers day, evening, and online classes at several locations which makes it a perfect fit for nearly anyone.
Campus Safety Due to the rural setting of the campuses of Riverland Community College and the desire of the students to succeed. I have never noticed anything concerning. I am amazed at how diverse the students are in each class and how well they all respond to each other.
